RECORDING Madeline Townsend - Job Interview for the position of Junior Archivist at The Holmwood Foundation- Westenra Building- Whitby. Overseen by Jeremy Larkin, Branch Director.
[A video-meeting app on a computer screen. Madeline Townsend is displayed on the right hand side, smiling nervously in a blouse and pale yellow cardigan, behind a backdrop of a small, well-stocked bookcase. Jeremy Larkin is displayed on the left side, unsmiling in an expensive grey suit, his windowless office behind him. He reads from a printed sheet.] J: …Mr Jones’ letter of recommendation is certainly glowing. We are, of course, aware of your relationship— M: I’m grateful for his support. But, please, I just want to do a good job. If you need to disregard his letter for any reason— J: Hm. [He makes a note offscreen. Maddie’s smile wilts slightly, but brightens again as he looks back up] J: And has Mr Jones explained the full roster of duties to you? M: Well, not all of them, of course! I know there are… one or two NDAs involved… J: [He sighs] Frankly, Ms Townsend, one or two is on the lighter end. And this doesn’t concern you? M: I’m aware that what goes on here is under the tightest security, but if Arthur thinks I can handle it, then I’m willing to try. [A pause, she laughs] Can’t be much worse than Year 9’s on a Wednesday Afternoon! [Another pause. Jeremy glances at another sheet of notes.] J: Yes, you were a history teacher before this, correct? M: Yes. Uh, correct. For about ten years. J: And this has given you the skills necessary for archival work? M: Well, I have a postgraduate degree in archival conservation, and experience in records management at [REDACTED] University, where I finished my Masters in Medieval history, with a secondary interest in late Victorian literature— [she pauses, blushing slightly] I suppose what I’m trying to say is…I’d quite like a break from the teaching side of things. At least for a term of two. I’ve always enjoyed archival work… [Jeremy sits back, his expression both mildly impressed and somewhat bewildered.] J: …And with all that, you want to work here? M: Well…yes. Is there something wrong with that? J: No. no. Nothing wrong at all. [he sighs] I suppose we all have the luxury of choice.

I’m mad, too, about what my stepgrandparents did to my stepmom. She’s worked to unlearn some of it, but it’s entrenched AF and she has maybe less of a framework for identifying and working on the trauma than say I do. She’s a big AA person, and I think labors under the common AA misconception that talking to one’s sponsor (a person whose only credential is being a fellow addict) is as good as talking to a therapist. There’s definitely value to sponsorship and that relationship! But I think they put too much weight on it. She’s also all in on "addiction is a brain disease," as is common for AA people, so she totally discounts the way it is connected to trauma for many, if not all, people (but definitely her specifically). And please know I’m saying this as someone who is very pro-AA. I get really defensive when anyone bashes it, because for all its flaws it’s still net positive and is the only thing that helped the addicts in my family stay sober to the extent that they have. But these things are still true.
Stepmom has done my same anxiety program twice - well, once for substance abuse and once for substance plus anxiety. She recently told me "they said during my intake that I met criteria for childhood trauma, but I don’t know"…I thought at first that she was joking, like being sarcastic because OBVIOUSLY the way she was raised was chronically traumatic, and then the death of her brother when she was a tween was a major traumatic event. But she actually didn’t think that qualified.
This long digression is just to say - unfortunately I think a lot of the programming my stepmom got from her parents is here to stay. She recently bought a new car, and decided on green for color (it’s a mini cooper so…come on, you gotta go green!) She wanted reassurance from me and Jeremy that it was okay and not "weird" to have a green car. We said go for it…later she told me that that was really hard for her, she wanted the green but her previous cars have all been white or silver, because she wants to be anonymous and blend in, scared of the idea that if she had a distinctive car, someone might see it parked somewhere and know it was her and thereby know her location. And that people might judge her for having an attention getting car. It’s just such a sad way to live! And it makes me mad at her parents, because of course while we all experience a melange of messaging and influences from our family, overt and subconscious, via mechanisms that may not be apparent in the the moment or even just occurring by osmosis… this image obsession is very clearly given to her by them, like on purpose! They’d think she SHOULD be worried about what people will think of her green car! And more sinisterly, this is also directly why she ended up getting gastric bypass and is now on wegovy after regaining "too much" of that weight! Her body is irreparably fucked due to this passed down shame and image issue. So, fuck them for that!

falling even more in love with you
aric has spent most of his life alone and can't fathom the idea that mollie cares about him like he does her. fortunately, mollie is a lot bolder than he is.
cw: some mild cursing. very fluffy
Aric stared at the textbooks in front of him, staring at the letters but not actually reading. These diagrams didn't make sense in the least—he wasn’t a good student before he got to the academy and he surely wouldn’t be now. In his frustration, he fell forward, laying his head on the book. Then he proceeded to hit his head against it several times.
He heard Jeremy snicker from his bed across the room. “I don’t think information-via-osmosis violence is going to help you remember any of this for this quiz tomorrow.”
He paused and turned his head to glare at his best friend. “Don’t use your fancy biology words at me.”
Jeremy laughed from next to him and stood up—the next thing he knew, he was hitting the mattress with his forehead instead of the textbook. He closed it and placed it next to him, then sat on the bed. “You wanna talk about it? This is obviously not about a quiz.” Aric looked at him funny, so he laughed and continued, “look, I know you don’t do touchy-feely, let’s-talk-about-our-feelings, but I have four younger siblings. Which means I’m a certified therapist.”
He rolled his eyes at him and sighed. “I dunno, man. It’s all stupid.”
“I forget, sometimes, that you don’t know how to communicate your feelings.” He stood and grabbed his sketchbook off of the nightstand next to him. “You work better in pictures anyway. I’m going to get a shower, and when I come back I want to see whatever is bothering you.”
He glared at him for a second, but he didn’t leave much room for argument. Once he left the room, he finally did as he asked—he opened the sketchbook and started doodling. It started with flowers and little jewels, coming up with little things he’d love to paint on the wall outside Mayhew’s room to piss him off. Then the jewels turned into circles, swirls, strange shapes he wasn’t quite thinking about, when he realized he’d drawn half of the Moral Cup.
The Ascension was in a few weeks. He was nervous as hell—tensions kept rising between their classmates and he was concerned Valentine and the lightwoods were going to do something stupid. Then again, Valentine Morgenstern was always stupid and deserved the broken nose.
Moreso, he was worried for himself. If he wasn’t ready—if whatever angels didn’t accept him—he wouldn’t survive. And he was terrified. It was like looking death in the face at seventeen and leaving it up to fate if he’d take him. He didn’t want to leave the shadow world—since he started at the academy, his entire life changed around. He expected to barely graduate high school, maybe drop out, and end up involved with some less-than-respectable things to make money. That was just the area he grew up in, despite his mom doing her best. He’d made great friends, started actually working at school, found things that were fun and not just surviving through life. He didn’t want to leave Jeremy or Céline, and certainly not Mollie.
Mollie.
She was driving him crazy. They’d all go to lunch outside and he’d spend the entire time watching her, looking at her smile and making sure she laughed first when he told a joke. Recently, she’d been complaining about her hair getting too long and she liked to put up her curls with a few pencils. She took notes for their history class in blue pen and Downworld relations in black. All classes required at least one purple highlighter and a red pen to doodle in the corner. He watched as she desperately practiced for an extra hour after training, simply wanting the best at everything she did. And every day they ate dinner and studied, and his notebook was full of little red doodles as she explained things. She liked to dance in her free time, though she self-admittedly had the grace of an elephant outside of training. She was always trying something new and interesting, setting trends or getting weird looks among classmates without a care in the world. Everything she did, to him, was nothing short of beautiful.
He didn’t have the time to think about her with everything going on, but that didn’t stop him most days. He was seventeen now and he just needed to survive the Ascension so he could start collecting a salary from the Clave and send money to his mother back home. That was his promise—he’d go off to this “boarding school” over in Europe and spend a few years there, and he was guaranteed a good job afterward, and would be able to send her money to save to get out of the city. He didn’t have the time to worry about anything else, or so he kept telling himself.
Jeremy walked back in after a while, hair damp and in pajamas. He sat down on the bed next to him and glanced over his shoulder. “How’d I guess,” he said, amusement clear in his voice and on his face in the way he smirked. “You have to talk to her.”
Aric looked at the paper where he’d started a (very rough) sketch of Mollie on the paper. Realism and portraits were never really his thing, but hey, you could tell who it was. Maybe he was getting better at it. He turned his head to glare at Jeremy for a second and tossed the sketchbook to the bottom of the bed. “I’m not talking to anyone.”
He rolled his eyes and elbowed him in the arm. “I watch how you look at her. It’s…it’s ridiculous at this point. You look like a lovesick puppy.”
“I do not—“
He looked at him in a way that indicated there was no argument to be had here. Eyebrows raised, daring him to try to refute. Aric muttered a string of curse words in Spanish that would have gotten a shoe or a wooden spoon thrown at him at home and sighed. “You’re annoying,” he said, giving the only argument he could come up with.
He scoffed and got up, returning to his own bed. “And you’re incredibly stubborn for no reason. For being someone that I’ve known to never be afraid of anything, you’re pretty afraid of rejection, Aric.”
He stared for a second, watching Jeremy get comfortable and open his book for the evening. That was his signal that he was ready to be done people-ing for the day, as he said, and he should shut up. So he did, tossing his books on the floor and deciding he’d clean them up in the morning. He laid down, deciding he could fall asleep and deal with his problems tomorrow.
***
“You’re fidgeting,”
Aric looked up and stopped spinning his pencil. He was getting anxious the more he sat reading the stupid book in front of him, understanding nothing about these different kinds of demons. He didn’t care—everything died with a seraph blade eventually. And the names weren’t in languages he recognized, most of them are old, he had no idea how to pronounce half of the words on the page, and he couldn’t think clearly.
Mollie placed her hand over his, sliding the book away with her other one. “Talk to me,” she said, turning towards him. “I don’t care about coursework. You’re anxious.”
“I’m fine,” he muttered, looking over her hand and trying to continue reading the book. “This stuff just doesn’t make sense. I’ll read it again, it’ll click eventually—“
The glare she gave him cut him off. With a much gentler tone, she said, “what have I told you about pushing yourself? If you can’t do more than twenty minutes of this at once, don’t do it. Let’s take a break.”
He laid his head in his hand, leaving hers still (he wouldn’t admit how much he liked her holding his hand), and sighed. “It’s worthless. I’m never going to understand all this.”
“Hey,” she said, pulling his chair and spinning him towards her. “It’s not worthless. You are not worthless, you’re just not doing what you’re good at. Your brain doesn’t work for…what are you even doing—“ she looked at the book, then his notebook, then back to him— “demonology or whatever. And that’s completely fine. We learned a while ago that you just don’t work like other people, and it’s fine. You work in pictures, you work in art, Aric, and it’s beautiful.”
He stared at her for a moment, mouth slightly open in shock, too many thoughts for him to process racing through his mind to process everything she just said. She’d always told him it was fine that he didn’t think like everyone else—that he couldn’t think like everyone else. It didn’t bother her and she had the patience to work with him. It turned into an unlikely friendship—the school rebel and the straight-A, perfect princess. He knew she was never shallow like some of the kids he dealt with before the academy, but she was perfect.
Mollie was smart—not just smart, but clever. He remembered her and Jeremy working on some law class and sitting in the courtyard next to Céline, listening to the two of them debate about whatever their assignment was for practice during class. The two went back and forth for an hour, only stopping when she finally found a loophole in his argument and he conceded.
She was kind—kinder than anyone he’d seen. He watched as she helped new recruits during training and showed them new techniques she had a handle on. She stopped to help wounded animals in the woods and caught spiders with a cup instead of squishing them. The only true aggression he’d ever seen from her was during training, and even that she did with a smile.
Mollie was strong in so many ways. At seventeen, she continued to prove to her siblings she could carry one of them under each arm (Patrick hated it, Gunny loved it), and even proved she could pick him up a few weeks prior. When he got there he was a scrawny kid, but he was pretty solid after 3-4 years of training, so it was impressive. She showed her strength in her resilience as well—no matter what came at her, she found a way through it. Fights with Céline, the loss of her mother when she was young—she was a fighter and he admired her for it.
She insisted he was the beautiful one, but he knew it was just the opposite.
It was a quick moment—one second he was staring at her, awe-struck, and the next he was kissing her. That was quick, too. He pulled away almost immediately, cursing himself for making such a rash decision without thinking. He didn’t have time to process the mistake he made, though, because she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him in again. In an instant, he felt her lips on his and everything felt right. Her chapstick tasted like lemon candy. His heart was beating out of his chest, but her grip slowly loosened on his shirt and he found himself holding her face—gentle, like she was porcelain.
After what felt like too much but not enough time, she pulled away, a grin wide on her face. Her eyes lit up when she smiled—maybe it was just the fact that he looked at her so much, but her green eyes shined in a way he couldn’t describe. It was his favorite color.
“I was wondering when you were going to do that,” she said, inching her chair a little closer to his. The sun was beginning to set through the library windows behind her, creating a halo of orangey-red around her. He watched as she fiddled with the ring she kept on her hands—a small, delicate thing decorated with a light blue gem and butterflies. Céline had gifted it to her a long time ago.
He stared blankly, looking at her with a kind of anxious excitement he hadn’t felt before. “You…you what?”
She chuckled. “I’ve only been flirting with you for…four months? At least that’s been the serious flirting.”
He stared again. Jeremy was right and he was never going to hear the end of it. “I—I guess I didn’t-“
“It’s alright,” she said, brushing her hair through his hair. He felt her nails scratch across his skin and shuddered, though he hoped it wasn’t obvious. Being so close to her was nothing short of intoxicating and breathtaking all in the same way. “I was beginning to wonder if you were giving me the cold shoulder because you weren’t interested.”
He swallowed, trying to find the words to respond. “No, I—no. Definitely not that.”
She rested her hand on the side of his face, thumb brushing over his cheek. “I meant what I said, Aric. I think you’re amazing.”
He could feel his face heating up in embarrassment. “I need you to stop talking,”
They both laughed. It was good to laugh—he’d been so stressed lately that he hadn’t felt really happy about something in a little while. But sitting with Mollie was so easy—she relaxed his nerves, even if he was on edge for other reasons (like trying not to embarrass himself in front of her).
She dropped her hand and happened to glance at the clock—he watched as she did a double take and rushed to stand up. “I am so sorry—I promised Céline that I’d help her tonight because she’s going to some gala in Idris this weekend. And I’m, like, fifteen minutes late.”
Aric chuckled at her comment and waved it off. “I’ll hang here for a while and try to review. Thanks for the help tonight.”
She gathered her things and shoved them into the messenger bag that was slung over her shoulder. “Anytime,” she said rather breathlessly before running off. Less than a second later she was back; she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek, then ran off again.
He muttered a couple curse words under his breath—an array of Spanish that would have put a sailor to shame. If it didn’t kill him first, he thought things with her—wherever their relationship was going—would be a great thing.

Oh wait ok, you probably have this tag blocked (good_for_her.jpg) but what do you know about Succession via osmosis?
I do have the tag blocked! HOWEVER...
Succession is about a company called Waystar Royco. I have no idea what the company does but it is run by a family whose surname is Roy. The father is Logan Roy and his children are Kendall, Roman, and Shiv (which I assume is short for Siobhan). One of the children is played by a Culkin (not sure which one), one of them is played by a guy named Jeremy Strong who apparently takes his role WAY too seriously, the girl one is played by Sarah Snook. Shiv is married to Tom (played by Matthew Macfayden), who has some weird sexual thing going on with Greg (Nicholas Braun), who is someone's cousin. Whose, I don't know. Roman (I think) is having a relationship of some kind with an older woman named Gerri (...J. Smith-Cameron???). I don't know if Logan has a wife or if the kids have a mother. Perhaps she is dead.
I think the plot is about trying to control the company. Possibly it was brought on by Logan doing a King Lear-style "which of you deserves to take over from me" thing?? I believe the alliances shift so I'm not sure whether it's primarily kids vs kids or kids vs dad. Something happened with a pool at some point. There is a lot of yelling. Sometimes they eat dinner. The most recent season ended with Tom betraying Shiv I think.
#FRANKLY I THINK I KILLED THIS ONE????#this is less dashboard osmosis and more emmy nominations/vulture headlines osmosis

Challenge #03849-J197: Liminal Encounters
As Jeremy walks though the abandoned pizzeria only accompanied by the hollowed footsteps and the memories of the forgotten place, he pause to stare at the empty stage of where they once were. So full of joys, such fond memories. Suddenly there was a gust of wind slamming the doors to the entrance shut. Jeremy rush to the front of the pizzeria. Locked. His spine tingling as if someone, something was staring at him. The stage behind the teen didn’t feel so empty anymore. -- Anon Guest
[AN: I am not doing fanficcy stuff so I can legitimately put a suggested price tag on my annual anthology. You know, so I can pay the bills. Also, I only know about FNAF via osmosis, so this will be inspired by everything you put into this prompt]
This used to be his playground. This used to be his childhood dreams. Now that he was on the night shift patrolling this place, the perspective was damn near dizzying. Also... mildly terrifying.
Places like this should be full of people. Full of kids, certainly, with their guardians in the coffeehouse next door as the kids screamed their lungs out in the play centre. During the night shift, after a tired staffer had cleaned out the ball pits, it was eerily empty and seemingly haunted.
Jer' had to walk through it all, checking the plastic labyrinths, just in case some kid thought they could have an endless playtime by hiding in one of the niches somewhere. Fortunately for him, he had the keys that made it easier for him to check those niches. Good news, no kids were trying that shit. Better news, no guardians would be meeting with Child Protection Services because of that shit.

This is huge bc I’ve always wondered what K-pop groups resonate with the foxes.
Dan feels like a solo artist gal: CL, Hyuna, BIBI, etc. she would also listen to hype music. she's also really good at the dances.
Matt: so. many. girl. groups. KARD to keep it interesting maybe.
Allison also feels solo artist and mainstream music. anything she can walk a runway with.
Renee is giving solo artist smooth jazz. refuses to conform what a queen
Nicky also loves girl groups, but only the big ones. He will listen to boy groups though, probably BTS or TXT. In short, another mainstream music guy.
Andrew feels like a noise music guy bc of his shit taste in edm music. praying for him fr.
Aaron is second gen groups. RV + GG + 2NE1. he thinks he's all that bc of it
Kevin listens to Twice but will NEVEr admit it unless at gunpoint.
Neil doesn't listen to music that heathen.
Jeremy (honorable mention): everything. all. anything kpop he has it down. dances? down. lipsync? down. style? down. ask him to do a dance battle on the street and he wouldn't even blink
Jean (honorable mention): also like Neil and doesn't listen willingly, but has a couple favorites bc of Jeremy via osmosis.
Aaron is a red velvet kinda guy I will not explain further

jeremy's cousins with nato from the black suits. roughly 1-2 years apart they find solidarity in being ‘Weird Kids’ (even if jeremy doesnt necessarily like being the Weird Kid). they’re related on his moms side and used to see each other a lot during holidays and family gatherings. but after jeremy’s mom left and went back to long island with her prom king they saw each other less thru the years. they still have each others phone number so they text sssooometimes. nato told jeremy about the battle of the bands so he and michael went to go see them perform. jeremy bought a sticker with their logo and it now sits on his laptop (tho he probably also bought other merch if available cause hes like Yeah!!! The black suits rock!!! i wanna support them!!!). jeremy michael and nato, and prob the rest of the band, have definitely all gotten high together and sang Amphibian at least once.
#outofbemore#JEREMY: about#i wish there was a bootleg of black suits so i could watch it#or like... a script or something to read#cause im hella interested but everything i know about it#i learned from osmosis and he-said-he-said on the internet#WHICH ISNT REALLY A LOT .........#i was thinking about this yesterday and today trying to pin down this hc

Granada Holmes thoughts as I watch
I’ve started watching Granada Holmes. For the uninitiated, this is “a TV series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations produced by the British television company Granada Television, between 1984 and 1994″ (more here). I’m two episodes in and I love it so much already.
If you want to join me, check out the following links! Link one. Link two.
I figured I might as well put some thoughts down as I go through the episodes, partly as a way of tracking my progress. There are a LOT of episodes after all. These won’t be big reviews - other people have done that. (For example, check out Plaid Adder’s metafic on ao3 here.) No, I’m just doing to do some bits and pieces... starting with A Scandal in Bohemia and The Dancing Men.
Note: This is my first true exposure to a Sherlock Holmes story or adaptation, though due to what I call “fandom osmosis” I know bits and pieces about some of the narratives.
Spoilers ahead!
A Scandal In Bohemia:
The set up is intriguing
I LOVE Jeremy Brett’s Holmes.
David Burke as Watson is fun too.
The King of Bohemia is an annoying prick and I love how they show that, and the different responses of the characters.
The whole show felt like a bit of a fun romp with all the disguises and performance stuff
Though I did feel sorry for Irene Adler and glad when she got to have her moment.
The Dancing Men
I love the scene at the start with the deductions and banter; the way they play off each other... credit to the actors because it really feels like (as said in the first ep) they have been living together for some years.
Holmes and Watson are the best parts of this episode.
Another example: the part where Holmes shows Watson how to work the code out by giving two clues - using his own silhouette to demonstrate. (Thank you Brett.)
And then the part where they crack the code on the last message! The synergy of Holmes writing/ Watson watching then the sudden glance of ‘oh hell’ and then skedaddle!
I enjoyed the set up of The Case, but it became tense very fast and that was hard to watch.
So much could have been prevented if the Cubitts had just bloody talked to each other drat it!
So much also depended on timing - if Cubitt’s last letter had made the last post, if Holmes had been able to follow through on his thought to get to Derbyshire that night (instead of the morning).
Again, thank you Brett for Holmes’s quiet & heartfelt shock/sadness combo... I noticed that sheen of almost tears and the “that can’t be right!” look.
Anyway I need fix-it fic now.
I will reblog this post with an addition after watching the next episode in my list.

20. Is Succession A Comedy? I think it's a comedy insofar as a significant portion is written with humorous intent. Regardless, the show is primarily a psychological drama, so much of the comedy does have this deadpan element because of the way it's presented. Some people don't realise there's anything intentionally comedic within the show at all. The comedy in the show sometimes holds points of drama or shows something genuinely relevant to the characterisation or themes. One of the most... Succession comedic moments really was the dick pic event because on a dumb level, it is Roman sending a dick pic to his dad on accident which is funny on its own. It's also funny in retrospect how this, of all events, became his undoing. At the same time, the dick pic event served as this unveiling of all Roman's sins.
25. favorite performance (can split into lead, supporting, and guest if you want to be a coward about it) Crying and shitting because I can't choose!!! They're all great in their own way, but I guess Jeremy Strong? I think it's like, kind of amazing he really doesn't treat it as a comedy, yet still delivers great performances on that front. I suppose, that might actually be a comedic strength? Obviously, he's great at the dramatic stuff too. That's obvious. Ugh, they're really all great, though, aren't they? It's a character driven show, so it does have a lot to do with how well the actors do in their roles. They all do a good job.
27. do you think baird and gerri had a happy marriage? It's hard to say because we don't get much about them. J.C. Cameron said she thinks Baird was significantly older than her which is interesting considering her relationship with Roman and how to him, she's seen as a proxy for Logan. I think how good it was depends on if he worked at Waystar. If he worked there, there were probably significant issues. I feel like people can't be married and work in that company at the same time without there being some kind of poisoning by osmosis. If not, then it was might've been alright since they didn't divorce. They were, however, close enough to the Roys that he was Shiv's godfather and that Roman remembers something about a turtle...
