When you’re writing a multi-chapter fic, are you writing it chapter by chapter or do you write a large chunk (or the entire fic) before posting the individual chapters?

lovely lovely jenn! what a fabulous question, okay, I may ramble here, forgive meeeee.

previously, I have written a huge chunk of the fic to an outline I have (a skeleton, as I call it) and then begin posting when I’ve banked what I suspect is 30-40% of the fic, to allow for buffer time. this is mainly because I upload weekly and life can happen/sickness/etc.

late night texts was one I wrote three chapters of (thinking it would be five) and began posting and then spent every week writing the next and it was AMAZING! but I also didn’t have assignments then, one shots coming out of my ears (both my fault) or fandom friends to talk to. I just had writing. but with do me yourself, I had a chunk of that written and then I dedicated time aside to do as much of it as I could as i was posting but noticed near the end that I almost lost a thread 😂 like I didn’t close it up. I managed to sort but it kinda made me realise that when I do a slightly bigger plot (for me) my brain can forget little threads.

so I realised for actual series, I need to change it up.

HOWEVER, more recently, blue x frankie WAS supposed to be a collection of one shots that have somehow become a story? (let’s not even ask 😂) so, for this I’ve made a hard plan and made sure it has bullet points so I know what I’m doing.

but with new things, i am trying to write in full at least a draft. there’s something I’m working on that I’ve worked out could be around 12 chapters, and while I could get to four or five and begin posting, I really want to make sure for myself that I’m happy with elements before posting. so I won’t even be teasing that out into the universe because I’ll get excited and post 😂. (I succumb to peer pressure very easily).

now I’ve rambled a lot and I know you asked me for what I do, but I do want to stress there’s no right or wrong way, as long as you can be confident in what youve done. that’s all that matters.

I never used to be a planner, but I’ve found a tactic that works well for me. It’s good for my brain and how i work, and it’s taken years to craft and tweak it to be how i want. so if anyone is after advice: just try things.

and I think because I am now a planner who pants, that has changed me as an uploader, and I think I’ve learnt that I’d like to enjoy the process of posting it more if I know I’m completely done. its especially important as I’m trying to weave more things in and also make the readers lean a bit closer to OCs so people can really sink into them.

anyway, that’s a lot of ramble. but I hope I answered your question! thank you for it, it really made me think!

okay fuck it we ball im posting resident alien stuff here. hyperfixation time. spoilers below so be warned.

im sooo bummed over the recent ep. the gripe i have w every single piece of media happened agaiiinnnnn. can i have ONE thing that doesnt force relationship arcs. especially ones that dont fit the initial or continuing tone of the shoooow. <--- edit again to clarify. i loved the tone of s1. i want that back. its getting too comedyish.

like i rlly connected w harry esp the fact he wasnt really getting infatuated with anyone but this whole horned up episode was grating to watch. like i still think there were sweet moments but boooo 🍅💥🍅💥 im hoping its just for some sort of conflict and that itll get squashed come the next few eps. (ALSO EDIT: at least the thing with harry and isabelle was palatable. gahhh im just peeved….)

s1 was so baller too like it had good clever comedy and still had drama to it. like im hoping the very like… bland surface level humor gets dialed back. like its soooo forced to me. but i guess thats what the average viewer likes which is dog doodoo. dont make it a sitcom please im begging. it was soooo unique.

i will be rewatching season 1 for the 5th time tonight but another thing i noticed is the increased use of like… musical scores. its like one step removed from a laugh track. gahh.

anyways im a harry asta supporter also harry joseph supporter so this forced stuff hurts to watch esp bc it doesnt fit character to me. considering harrys whole thing so far has been about developing and realizing connections, the sudden shift to horniness just! isnt consistent. not to be autistic or anything haha.

speaking of! i think its boring and cheap to have this alien/alien thing going on. and also feels really like.. “nd people can never fit in so they have to be with other nd people.” i think i wouldnt be so turned away if it was more genuine. but this is a comedy ig, i just wish it was handled differently. its uninteresting to meeeee. like an alien/alien thing can work but not like this. gives very nd are forever seen as weird and are therefor ostracized. like it feels othering to me. ESP BC OF HOW FORCED UGHHHHHHH i hate forced romance shit so much. perhaps thats an unpopular take but i said what i said! sudden nonmeaningful stuff like this i feel will kill the show. i wouldnt be surprised if it fizzles out.

UM ALSO? tudyk bringing up shape of water on insta abt the newest ep????? i dont think so???????? i never watched that but i kind of know what it was about and it certainly wasnt fish on fish love. smdh. like i feel like the reason why it was so big when it came out was (albeit as someone who hasnt watched it and have surface level understanding) bc it was between a lady and fish guy. and it was heartfelt. not to be harry asta or anything but that was already developing so like. AGHHHUU. even a harry joseph dynamic i can get around in a way bc theres room for development. also itd be gay so thats a plus.

anyways i might check out the graphic novels. told myself i wouldnt bc my brain works weird but maybe itd be a good idea to get into that. unfortunately i will probably be begrudgingly keeping up bc im hyperfixated on it. GAHHHGG anyways ramble rant over.

are his wolves his familiars or a separate entity: OMG NO NEED TO BE SORRY AT ALL MY FRIEND!! ^u^ so his relationship with his wolves is something i'm still kind of working on. i think they would be wolves that were once native to the area he was born in but that medic can "possess" and see through them, act through them, etc. so he could be at home sipping blood out of a wine glass while also telepathically controlling one of his wolves and following sniper around while he's on a mission and helping him (something that he Does do but sniper has no idea that it's Medic Himself doing it ykwim). BUT when medic isn't possessing them, they appear just like slightly-bigger "normal" wolves (although Medic's Wolves have a reddish-black tint to their coats on their chest that just looks like stained blood from eating (bc they Do have to feed like medic does!) and this is how sniper can recognize them and differentiate them from just like. Regular Wolves in the region. they can also go in the sun! but medic can't. and medic can't possess just any wolf, it has to be ones that were raised by him and are his, if that makes sense! HEHE

has sniper killed any vampires (and are any of them some of the other mercs): ... ohoho.., well... this is something i'm also still working out. there are aboslutely merc vampires that he comes into contact with, but only one that he's killed... as of now! >:) i've been really tempted to keep who's who on the down-low so that my fics can have some surprises, but AUGAUGAAAA i want to share So Bad!! trying to talk about AI art discourse is so frustrating because i feel like i need to add like 30 addendums so that people don't think i'm the actual devil because of all the misinformation and fearmongering out there. i feel like i'm pretty neutral on the subject but i'm still scared of people getting mad at meeeee... i'm gonna try to say my thoughts about it anyways though...

all of the problems that everyone has with AI aren't actually problems with AI itself, they're problems with capitalism. so then its suuuuper frustrating to see these same people insinuate that their art styles themselves are basically intellectual property and that generative AI is infringing on that like WOAHHH where did that come from? were we just kidding about communism? do you want art styles to be copy-written? do you realize that takes like this are just pro-capitalist? obviously it sucks if your art is being directly copied and sold for money without your permission but that's the fault of the person doing that. anyone can physically trace your art, it's not specifically a generative AI problem.

even a genuine concern about AI, artists that work for companies being fired and replaced by generative AI, is solely because of capitalist greed. and that fucking sucks! the amount of energy and water that generative AI consumes is extremely negligible compared to any major company or millionaire ever. and that fucking sucks too!

"artistic integrity" or "value" is not being taken from you by generative AI. John AI making big boobie anime women on deviantart is not destroying the value you place upon your own art nor anyone else's. and no one Has to feel any "artistic value" towards their art. sometimes it's just work. but the people who want to purchase handmade art will purchase handmade art. if you're a commission artist you are not being replaced by AI. the people who are buying or making AI art were probably never going to buy your art regardless.

there are genuine concerns about gen AI but its super frustrating seeing some of the posts i see.... no one would give a fuck about AI if we didn't live in a capitalist society because it wouldn't even be an issue. i'm also not trying to say anyone is stupid for being scared or mad about AI or just wanting nothing to do with it... there are valid reasons for that. i will, however, always encourage discussion, learning, and changing your mind. i have. not everything is black and white. many people have to realize that this has happened with so many different new technologies in the past and that your problem isn't with AI itself, but rather capitalism as a whole.

at the end of the day i don't personally use gen AI or chatgpt or whatever and i don't know if i will but i also don't think anyone who does is a horrible person. i don't think that if you disagree with this then you're a horrible person either, i just want everyone to stop and think for a minute about who your enemy is here. banning AI is not going to magically make artists richer or make art more valuable to society or whatever else. AI has existed in many of the art tools we've been using for a while and many of them are genuinely very helpful for artists and that's a good thing. i don't knowwwwwwww. my overall stance -> I want to see the end of capitalism.

Dipper, sitting on a rock in his striped swimsuit, was hunched over a shard of black glass he’d found while walking along the beach. He groaned at the sound of Belle’s voice and curled up tighter. “Not now!” he barked back. “I’m busy studying this volcanic rock I found. I read that people used to use them to send secret messages and do magic yknow.”

Belle’s padding footsteps came to a halt inches away from him. “The only secret code on that rock is the one that says you’re a nerd,” she said, shaking him by the shoulders. “And you don’t need a rock to tell you that ‘cause I’m nice enough to do it for you! That’s just the kind of gal I am.”

He rolled his eyes and looked up. “What is it?”

His sister posed dramatically like the models she’d seen on TV, which she personally thought made her look very enchanting thank you very much despite the fact that she was ten and had sand all over her legs and swimsuit. “Look at my dazzling jewelry!” she announced, showing him her right hand.

Dipper raised an eyebrow. “You put a rock on your finger.”

“Yeah!” Belle pulled her hand away and held it up to the sky. “I found this cool rock with a hole in it like a ring! Now I’m just like a beautiful swan maiden from that movie Kidnapped At Dawn.”

“Oh my stars, Belle, you don’t want to be like the girl in that movie,” Dipper grumbled, looking back at his piece of glass.

“Oh yeah? Well... it’s still a cool ring! Maybe Danny from Mrs. Penlip’s class and I will get married someday and he’ll give me a ring juuuust like this one!”

“Ew, that’s gross!” Dipper got up and snatched the rock off his sister’s finger, to her loud dismay. “The getting married thing and the putting a weird rock on your finger thing.”

“Give it back!” Belle shouted, her face turning red. “Okay maybe not Danny -- he did pee on the slide at recess last year -- but someone else then!”

Ignoring her, Dipper put his hand out to block her from grabbing the rock, and used the other to hold it up to his eye. “Just gotta check out the damage here,” he huffed, trying out the voice of the professor from Dr. Researchman because it was his turn to act out a character from his favorite show. “Gotta see all the beach gunk you got on yourself -- whoa.”

Belle stopped flailing and cocked her head. “Whoa?”

“Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,” Dipper breathed and swung his head around. Through the rock he could see a massive pink lizard, stretching as far down the beach as he could see. It looked sort of like a salamander but it had red frills around its head and a catlike smile. The... whatever it was... seemed to notice his attention, as it winked at him and started crawling away.

And that wasn’t all he could see. There were little sparkling bits of fluff everywhere in the air. One close to his head made a buzzing sound and flew into his gaping mouth. He yelped and tried to spit it out, but as far as he could feel with his tongue there wasn’t actually anything in there.

“Belle, this is so cool!” he said finally. “If you look through the rock you can see all this invisible stuff! I can’t - I can’t even explain it, I uh, I gotta sketch some of this in my notebook!”

Without taking the rock away from his eye, he scrabbled around behind him to try to find his notebook.

Belle put her hands on her hips and pouted. “Yknow, it was my rock first,” she said. “I should get to look at the invisible stuff first.”

“Finders keepers, losers criers,” he shot back, sticking his tongue out.

“It’s losers weepers -” she started, glaring at him, and then faltered. “Whoa. How are you doing that?”

At last grabbing his notebook, Dipper flipped open to a blank page and started doodling. “How am I doing what?”

“That thing with your eye!” Belle squeaked. “Through the ring rock, your eye like turned completely black! How are you doing that?”

“Uhh.” He finally took the rock away from his eye and squinted at it. “I dunno. That’s kind creepy. Hey wait...” he added, catching a glimpse of his own hand through the opening. “It makes my nails look really long and pointy too. What is this thing?”

“Let me try, let me try!” Belle squealed, grabbing the ring back. “I wanna see if it makes my eyes go all creepy too! It could be a really cool Halloween effect, yknow?”

Looking at her brother, she started to put the rock up to her face, and for a split second something dark and horrible flickered before her eye, like the worst nightmare she’d ever had come to life, sending a shiver down her spine as it came into focus, and -

“Belle! Dipper!” Lionel’s voice came from a little bit down the beach. “It’s time to go!”

Belle shrieked in surprise and fumbled the rock. It went shooting into the air and landed somewhere in the sand. Both she and Dipper gasped and dropped to their knees to search for it.

“Kids?” Lionel said, much closer now. The twins looked up at him, disappointment written all over their faces. “Come on, let’s go. I bet you two are hungry -- I know I am -- and I saw a great restaurant on the way here that serves ice cream burgers. That sounds good, doesn’t it?”

“Oh boy, does it!” Belle shouted, jumping up and running toward the car, lingering thoughts about the stone already dashed.

“You coming, Dipper?” Lionel asked.

Dipper picked his hands up and watched the sand filter through his fingers. “Yeah, I guess,” he murmured. He stood up and gave his dad a weak smile, then ran ahead to catch up with his sister.

“Hey Belle,” he said when they reached the car, both panting from exertion. “Um. Did you see any of the cool stuff I was talking about? In the rock?”

She frowned. “Iunno. I didn’t really get a good look at it. There was something kinda scary in there but I dunno what it was.”

Dipper kicked at the pavement with a sandaled foot. “That blows. It was so cool -- it was like there’s all this hidden magic stuff all around us and we just can’t see it.” He sighed as their father caught up with them and started to unlock the car. “I just. Wish I could see that sort of stuff all the time.”

(Only a couple of years later, Belle saw Dipper’s eyes go dark again, and from then on he no longer needed a magical rock to truly see the world around him.)

well, this question has the power to truly Expose™ me on the first day of Christmas, but… here goes nothing

i think ppl expect me to respond with something like “tear you apart” from she wants revenge, which is a great song! but i’m afraid i’m going to have to take you back to the ye olde days and show you what really embarrassing, early ‘00s trash sounded like. 

first, a few concessions: 

 trash by suede and poison by alice cooper are 80s/90s classics of the “you’re bad for me but i can’t help it” dynamic. but they’re too classy for this list. there’s not gonna be any Divine on this list, no 80s late-disco jams, no “west end girls” by pet shop boys, no britney doing “toxic” or “momma i’m in love with a criminal”, no christina aguilera wrestling in the mud while singing about being “dirty”, no baz luhrmann-esque “lady marmalade”. that’s all great. it’s just not this list.

 you also won’t find any my chemical romance, panic at the disco, evanescence, papa roach, marilyn manson etc. because they weren’t part of my trash experience. i mean they were there in the background, i was aware of them (and who hasn’t watched edits with “bring me to life”? don’t lie…)… and they’re kind of similar to what i have here, but they weren’t the trash i was particularly attuned to (plus, manson can choke).  

some other exclusions: i remember the original p&p edits back in 2005 had all of these “cuz there’s you and me and all other people” songs that were really wonderful, cheesy, shippy songs. but that’s…not this list (although that would make a great list too! remind me to do that one too!) 

i once got a message about how “mr. brightside” by the killers would make a great song for a bonkai edit, and…i like the killers just fine, and that’s a great song, but…no. this list ain’t that. 

the trash here is not trash on purpose, it’s not tongue-in-cheek, it’s not a “steamy hot mess”, it’s just…really bad and angsty and earnest and totally committed to the “no one understands me (but you)” vibe that a lot of early ‘00s trash ships fostered. 

okay…let’s…shame…me…: 

1. cold by crossfade - back in the late ‘00s, you couldn’t find an anime AMV that didn’t have this song in the background, ESPECIALLY if your male character was a murderous, brooding (secretly soft) boi who disdained the female sex because “feelings are weakness” or something. it was baaaad, but it’s a nostalgic fave.  the whole song is basically about how that arrogant, cold guy who’s shunned you and treated you badly was secretly into you all this time. yeaahhhh. (i remember this song was also popular with m/m ships because you had that classic dynamic where one of the guys was still in denial about his “gay” feelings. god i miss 2006.)

2. vermilion pt. 2 by slipknot - another 2005/2006 era song that capitalizes on the bad guy/good girl trope where she’s too “good” for the brooding antihero, but he can’t help but ruin her. or something. it’s soooo angsty. it has the great, eerie feeling of a doomed romance which was also definitely written by teenagers. i love it. 

3. i hate everything about you by three days grace - obviously, you can’t leave out the big dick energy song. 

4. anything by nine inch nails’ 2000-2010 period, but especially “fragile” and “we’re in this together now”, because they’re very much trashy power couple aesthetics, but also aaaaangsssst. “fragile” always cracks me up because it’s basically that one direction song about how the girl doesn’t know she’s beautiful, except it’s alternative rock and trent reznor is screaming about how he has to save this beautiful, pure soul from the corruption of the world. (for anyone expecting “closer”, that’s a great song…but i said real, embarrassing trash).

5. vampire heart by HIM - because OF COURSE. 2006 me was LIVING for Vampire Hunter D AMVs. that iconic line “love me like you love the sun” POETRY OKAY. another fave line has to be “you can’t escape the wrath of my heart”….like, whew, what a badass. 

6. hate me by blue october - AAAANGST. aaaaaaaaaangst. maybe the apogee of late ‘00s cheesy alternative rock. but probably not. there’s always one that goes harder. this list, unfortunately, is 90% this genre because they really SLAPPED when you put them together with trashy ships okayyyyy there was an innocence and earnestness that the ‘post-9/11 iraq invasion’ atmosphere really captured. 

7. let me go by 3 doors down - see, i was wrong, THIS is the apogee. “you love meeeee, but you don’t know who i aaaaaam” belts the lead singer of this oft-forgotten band aaaaand 15-year old me screamed yaaaaaaaaas

8. pieces by sum 41 - WRONG AGAIN. IT’S THIS ONE. the anime AMVs…my god….i can even tell you, beat by beat where the angsty edits happened depending on the breaks in the song.

9. sour girl by stone temple pilots -  “bad” boy waxing about how he’s ruined a good girl? check. super Extra lyrics that go “what would you do? what would you do if i followed you?” check. sarah michelle gellar/buffy being a dark goth muse for the tormented bad boy? triple check!!

10. hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me by U2 - i meaaaaaaan. it’s in the title. 10-year old me WAS LIVING. this is THE batman song, and if there’s a god, it will be featured in the upcoming robert pattinson movie. ppl wanna say this song is more of the “trash on purpose” variety, but i don’t think so. i think joel schumacher plays this dead straight (and “batman forever”, while being one of the cheesiest movies ever made, takes itself extremely serious). 

11. insatiable by darren hayes - finally breaking away from the alt rock scene a bit for this one. ppl who are now trying to make this song “respectable” and classify it as sweet 00s nostalgia are WRONG. everything about this song is convoluted and overly wrought and pitch perfect, even the fact that you would never believe that this waspy blond dude in the music video has anything to do with the actual song.  

12. behind blue eyes by limp bizkit - don’t look at meeeee. this is basically a meme song. the band itself turned out to be dumpster fire and fred durst is…blehh. but this song stiiiiiill slaps, i have the courage to say it.  the video definitely helps, i mean u got that trashy dynamic of prisoner/guardian @___@ and halle berry @___@. half-naked fred durst kinda ruins it, but it’s still got its charm. 

13. i have to include some linkin’ park songs here at the end and i’m choosing the ones that were trashiest to me and that’s gotta be “one step closer” and “somewhere i belong”  because they were always juxtaposed with villain/heroine ships in edits, and i remember fanfic authors would use them in songfics. “in the end” and “numb” are waaaayyy too classy.

additional “kinda too good for this list” rec:  the entire Queen of the Damned soundtrack, but especially “slept so long”, “system” and “before i’m dead” and really ALL the songs.

this disaster list could definitely go on (i’m sure u guys can pitch in. and hey, i might be persuaded to do part 2) but imma stop here before i lose my last shred of credibility on this website lol. k byeeeeeee

alright so i wouldn't change too much in s1 plot wise, only that jonas is trans and has a band (he plays guitar cause a jonas needs to play guitar, girl isak sings because i'm cliche like that. there are two other band members that i haven't developed properly yet. isak and jonas are childhood friends and used to have movie nights in blanket forts and this is relevant in s3). the eva would probably move from some countryside (like meeeee she comes from the middle of fucking NOWHERE) BUT like for Some reasons the whole thing could be set in some seaside town (this again is relevant in season 2). anyway, the penetrators are like a volleyball team which will also be relevant in later seasons. i have this Idea where there's a song sung by isak over some of the more relevant jonas/eva scenes and then later on there's something sung by jonas in s3 (im thinking end of ep5?) over a scene with isak where she's Going Through It. ideally isak would be nb cause i need that sweet self insert but i haven't decided yet. idk what the equivalent of russ could be in s1, like??? school board elections? that's for nerds and cishets i said what i said. maybe some play or whatever, i don't know.

season 2. y'all listen. girl volleyball player willrat, lesbian noora, willrat isn't actually manipulative and the relationship isn't toxic, she's just a bit of an asshole but has actual character development. i said what i said.

season 3. LISTEN, fucking LISTEN. isak starts staying over at jonas' more and more bc of her home situation yk and it gets to the point where she basically lives there. i mean they're childhood best friends yk. now the eskild??? jonas' older sister who's at uni and studies some bizarre course. m you know what's up. the equivalent of the nurse talk is with jonas' grandma over rosołek. EVEN?? she's trans, she PAINTS with OILS she's a LEGEND. i won't get into more details cause i've literally imagined almost every scene of s3 but here is a post where i went off about the first kiss. this NEEDS to happen.

season 4. god first of all our sans gets full ten episodes. second of all this is their last semester at high school so there's the pressure of finals and there's the stress of uni looming and she doesn't KNOW what she wants what she should do what she wants to have, and can she take a gap year? can she really? can she take the time to figure it all out??? and then on top of it all there's YOUSEF and her hearts going all whooshy and there's uni and love and her friends scared of whether they'll drift apart

anyway on top of it all there needs to be a party during each season where an abba song plays. thanks for your attention

On the Twelfth Day of Positive Post my...

inspiration did come unto meeeee! See what I did there? No? Oh okay. lol

SO I am back with another positive post day. These have helped some but I am still having a depression attack so that’s when something hit me! I need a mini vacation away from work. I came up with the greatest idea ever! Saturday is movie and book night. Where I read and watch movies/TV shows all day & night. While Sunday is game night. I am going to game so hard Sunday. I am so excited! I have been planning this for the last couple of days. I am interested if anyone has any recommendations for movies or TV shows, or books. I have a ton of movies and such I haven’t watched yet but would still love some recommendations. Don’t be afraid to respond. I will reply back as soon as I can, please and thank you! 

I also have inspiration for drawing and animations. I have written down some ideas that I have and can’t wait to try them out. I might post them on here but its very unlikely it will be any time soon. My house is starting to look like someone lives here now, lol I have started the decorating process and I am slowly organizing my stuff so its not just scattered everywhere. It takes time tho because I need to find the stuff I want in my house. The things I think that will look good. Plus everything cost money which I am slowly saving up for a fence. I am getting closer to my main goals.

I got my Christmas tree in. Its never too early to celebrate Christmas. I have been playing Christmas music around my house and I am already excited for it. Christmas is my favorite holiday.  I am so ready to decorate because I am going to decorate the crap out of my house! So excited! hehe! xD

HELLO HELLO HELLOOOOOOO~~~~

It’s been a minute! A short- teeny tiny minute… but a minute nonetheless. It’s been three weeks since Undiscovered Country- Two weeks since Chess at the Kennedy Center.

Truth is- I’ve been a mess.

A distraught, unsalvageable, great stinkin’ mess- and you know what?

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve been wanting to make a post-Chess write up for a while- I have the first paragraph written horribly on a napkin when I first attempted it at the airport- but that’s as far as I got because I truly- truly don’t have the words.

I thought if I waited- waited for my cheeks to stop hurting from all the grinning. Waited for the puffiness and redness in my eyes to subside from all the tears of both happiness, and heartache that I would eventually come up with some words to convey the intensity of that weekend. Turns out I was sO wrong.

I can’t go on another second without mentioning the fact that I had the utmost pleasure of meeting @rawresparza​ @booyahfordhamlaw​ @xemopeachx @ohbelieveyoume​ @sashkash​  ❤ My heart feels so full just thinking about that weekend! I miss you more than words can say. You made me feel so welcomed…Made me feel like I could really be myself without a second thought. Our time together truly felt like home, and as you can very well imagine… I’m feeling pretty darn homesick.

I have adored, ADORED, the music from Chess from the first listen. The richness, the complexity, the CHAOS; and the fact that it was always faced with issues being transferred over to the US has always made it a point of intrigue. It’s a story that deals with real emotions, shadows real events, and frankly? Some real damn good tracks.

The new book is so, fitting. It’s well polished. It’s modern, without being overbearing. God, it’s so funny. It prickles both your mind and soul with its subtle changes and quirks. The heart of the original storytelling is still there which reminds me over and over that this story is a timeless one.

This cast is stellar, Raúl Espar(a)za, Ramin Karimloo, Ruthie Ann Miles, Karen Olivo, Bradley Dean, Sean Allan Krill, and Bryce Pinkham- How could you doOooOOooo this to meeEEE? AND THE ENSEMBLE. *shouts it at the top of my lungs* THIS ENSEMBLE IS GORGEOUS, ALRIGHT?! They blew us all out of our seats. I fell so hard, so quickly. (Just a few thoughts to include: Soviet Machine is a new favorite - the one I jam to now every morning that and One Night in Bangkok - DAMN YOU RAÚL FOR MAKING THAT A NEW FAVE AS WELL- much influenced by Bradley Deans’ ‘uber charismatic rendition. Karen Olivo is stunning. Stunning stunning stunning. What a dream. She portrayed Florence so exquisitely, and I keep saying it; but it was truly a privilege to have had my heart broken her. BRYCE PINKHAMMMMM- made The Arbiter his own. There was a layer of humbleness he laced in with the character that brought such freshness to the role.)

I didn’t even really know it then, but this was truly the cast of my dreams.

Heaven Help My Heart because I have seen Raúl Esparza live.

It’s a lot. To handle, I mean. I’ve thrown it out here and there the deep depths of my admiration; how his work has saved me and how he’s changed me yadayadayada but please, please believe me when I say that nothing- nothing will prepare you for when you see this man for the first time, when you h e a r him. No matter the amount of years he hasn’t been on a stage in this capacity; he owns it- to the core. It’s addicting to watch- it’s hypnotic. He knows how to capture an audience so well that all I could wish for was to stay always, just in that brief moment. I barely want to admit this, but I find myself randomly bursting into tears throughout the day when I recall moments of Pity The Child. You probably already know what happened... at... the last day... and pretty much... throughout the entire run... Yeah. He did that. If he isn’t the epitome of true dedication, professionalism, and- and - gosh I don’t even know how to describe what else- 

He’s everything.

This Just In

I just read this from a blogger/writer I admired and looked up to: “writing fanfic won’t prepare you creatively to write original content and it’s not real writing.” 

And I just have to say: FUCK THAT. 

Writing fanfic has done nothing BUT prepare me to write original content. If it weren’t for writing fic, I’d have never attempted nanowrimo, I would have never outlined that novel, or even thought about it. If it weren’t for fanfic, I would never believe that I could do it. I would never have believed I could be a writer. 

TO MY FELLOW FANFIC AUTHORS: 

Fanfic is so much more than just twisting stories to fit the world these characters live in. It is us creating original work that is sometimes better than what the show gives us. It is us stretching creative muscles that maybe we’ve never stretched before. It is us cultivating a talent that we love and enjoy. I’m proud of all of you. I’m proud that you’ve put pen to paper and fingers to keyboards. I’m proud that you’ve done it when it seems there was no decent feedback. I’m proud that you’ve posted what you’ve written, because that shit is scary. I’m proud of you. 

So keep writing. Keep showing your favorite characters love. Keep bringing those stories to life. 

Because Fanfic Writers ARE real writers. 

And don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.
