celia:

- she's been collecting evidence about alchemy, with some of the examples including: transference, the spiritual substitution of elements, but an 'incomplete' version (pointed out by sam)

- she almost encourages sam to continue his research into the institute, telling him he was handling it well and teasing him with having information about it. i dont think she means it in any nefarious way, i think its most likely she wants to have another person to confide in and trust her findings to as she goes, and she finds having a second pair of eyes useful for research.

sam:

- he knows about alchemy from researching the institute, as they were very interested in the field. i think its important to note that he specifies he started learning about alchemy during his research, not during his time at the study. this doesnt mean alchemy played no part in the study with children, it could be that sam was too young to understand or they didnt involve the kids directly in that process, but the distinction feels important

- sam reveals he wants to try and let go of the magnus institute research (not followed by a glitch) because alice has been warning him

- sam has realized hes receiving incidents related to his conversations and interests, "are the computers listening to us?" he poses the question to alice, though, knowing shes unlikely to take it seriously or agree. i think he'll likely bring it up to celia next, but i do think its important he continues to involve alice in his questions despite her seeming indifference

alice:

- as usual, she doesnt believe theres anything supernatural about fr3-d1 and thinks the system is too buggy to do anything that advanced

- shes continuously getting jmj errors throughout her interaction with sam, and seems to be the only one experiencing the issue (no one else is complaining about them or getting them on-screen at least). i think its because she refuses to interact with the bait; the one time she received a targeted incident she chose to ignore it, so it seems that jmj have abandoned trying to reason with her

- this conversation with sam drives her to go visit colin at his house, and she still doesnt believe him ("idiots, idiots all the way down") though i do think she'll notice the connections between her conversations with sam and colin

gwen:

- shes very angry at lena for not giving her any protection or back up during assignments, clearly still shaken up by her encounter with bonzo (and that was with someone there as well)

- shes aware that starkwall have offered security to the oiar before, assumedly from her family and their connections since this seemed to be very hush/hush when sam and alice were discussing it

lena:

- she refuses to give gwen any back up because as she sees it, gwen volunteered for the job, blackmailed her, and is a bit entitled to safety she doesnt grant to others (she demands a body guard on assignments but has no problem with endangering celia)

- she rebuffs the starkwall idea, saying they escalate situations (and are likely not trained to delegate with externals, but to enact the protocol upon them when necessary)

- its revealed she used to be in gwen's position, and has completed many assignments alone before (getting a hint at her journey climbing the corporate ladder)

- she tells gwen to resign if she refuses to do her assignments (an offer she made to colin as well. and we see how distance and unemployment are suiting him and teddy respectively)

- she muses that gwen can have her family find her a new, better position if she does quit

COLIN:

- he's correct in assuming alice's phone is listening in, and refuses to let her enter with it on

- it sounds like hes boarded himself into his house (you can practically see the 4 different locks in the door gap) as he speaks to alice, and he sounds weak and ragged

- "you should be worried for yourselves"

- "what i need is to not be seen. he sees too much already" i dont think this is directed at chester/jon or augustus/jonah, rather i think the man whos been managing colin (the one requesting he make an app) is facilitating the surveillance of the office, but i still dont know the level of sentience jmj may have

- "not that anyone cares as long as it balances out", hes put together that the oiar is trying to establish a balance between the forces relating to alchemy, but wont go so far as to stop all suffering by them. he specifically references mercury and sulfur as elements in the equation

incident:

narrated by chester, directed at sam.

- this incident somewhat follows chester's normal themes: mentions of the magnus institute as well as using an incident relating to their recent conversation *(note on this in the extra comments)

- letter to robert boyle, from the bureau of robert hook (speaker), dated 1684 (before the tma!magnus institute was founded)

- the letter calls for help on the matter of isaac newton, who has been working in alchemy and treading upon 'mad scientist' territory, inciting use of "the protocol". its referred to in this way several times, never mentioning magnus in any way, making me suspect that the name could be a monicker claimed by the institute (or tmagp!jonah) as its own interpretation of the protocol. this also goes to show how old the protocol is, drawing into question if it has always remained the same or if it needs to undergo changes

- its revealed that the protocol was enacted over the entirety of london, potentially explaining why the magnus institute is based in manchester instead

- newton is working on the vegetative propagation of metals

- newton kept a mangy dog around the lab, important potentially for a connection to the corruption as we knew it in tma

- within the lab, there was a large, glowing element, the perfected work of wilhelm holmberg, an early chymist (bridge between the disciplines of alchemy and chemistry) who was working on transmutations of metalic elements

- the element was actually a small tree enveloped in a solution unfamiliar to the speaker.

- newton refers to the tree as a living work (a living organism) rather than a mineral

- the tree bore fruit that newton wanted hook to taste -> clear parallels here to the story of adam and eve, the lesson to not eat the forbidden fruit, when newton quotes a latin bible verse directed to adam

- isaac fed the fruit to the dog, which began to transform very similarly to the tree-hybrid man we heard from in episode 3 (flesh falling from the body, as tendrils root into the ground and it sprouts branches) and with an outside perspective, we can see the dog open one eye to look upon hook.

- this also draws another parallel to the bible (though this could be entirely coincidental), but newton feeding the element to his dog makes me think of abraham attempting to sacrifice isaac to god

- hook was horrified by the knowledge and consciousness within the dog's gaze, "it knew me not as a beast knows its master, but as a man knows another" / "it saw me and it knew me"

- newton 'cured' the dog by pouring the glowing solution over the dog, returning it to its normal form

- hook wants to enact the protocol to stop newton from spreading this to a human, fearing what evil a person could accomplish if given omniscience (another theme common to a chester-narration but equally well suited to an augustus one*)

- he specifies that the protocol should be enacted to destroy newton's lab and experiments, but not to harm newton himself, demonstrating that the protocol is a violent method of achieving balance

glitches/lies:

"just curious", said by celia in response to sam asking why shes looking into alchemy

extra comments:

- *i think that there was a scheduling conflict with the voice actors resulting in a switch between augustus and chester's incidents (since they read incidents back to back that seem to match each other's style and it seems odd that augustus would read a modern incident only for the next episode to match his usual flavor. im unsure if thats been confirmed by ajn or any other member of the crew, but if thats not the case it raises some very interesting questions about the nature of what each voice reads (do they have any control over it? is it driven by preference? by code? by the man colin is referencing?)

- any time gwen's family is brought up (usually as a gotcha) she steps down from the confrontation and deflects. i think she may have a rocky relationship with them, explaining why shes desperate to move up in the oiar, why she doesnt want to quit, and why she seems to cling to fragments of her posh life when she can

- this episode confirms the alchemy theory, and we now have a pretty solid base to start researching from. there seems to be a heavy emphasis placed on transformation between elements (with the trinity of alchemy being the mind, body, and soul) and keeping a balance of all the elements. though, sam observed the model/evidence that celia had wasnt complete. i think that the oiar classification book is a list of potential transformations of the trinity, and documents the different elements used to enact the transformation. i dont know much about alchemy, so ill need to do a deeper dive when i get the chance!

- the dog's transformation struck me as a very clear example of what makes a person a person, the question of tmagp (tma asked what made a person a monster). this poses that people have a level of consciousness that allows for evil and good, for complex recognition and knowledge, and potential. this is also playing on questions of free will (hook is concerned about what choices a person would make if given a higher level of sentience by newton's element. in tma, annabelle cain mused that Tolstoy cpuld be correct in his estimation of free will, that if a person was fully omniscient it would be revealed they have no free will, that by knowing every variable a person's actions predictable and set.)

- it was great to hear colin, even if hes clearly losing it in the physical manifestation of a VPN that he calls a house. i dont believe that the old fears still exist, but that seems to be the only explanation for how hes behaving. hes demonstrating every symptom of a victim of the eye, and i cant think of another element or force that could be triggering this exact reaction

as a dedicated andrea crusader i must know, how does au^2 impact andrea and jesse's relationship? do baby and brock get along? i'm picturing it in my head and🥹🥹

ANDREA CRUSADERS UNITE, u are one of the ultimate andrea understanders 🥺 so their relationship is a little different in au squared!! around the time that jesse infiltrates the recovery group and actually meets andrea is the same time that demi moves back to abq and tracks him and baby down. he and demi have a weird, semi-formal relationship for a while before they start developing romantic feelings for one another and during that time, jesse dates andrea. any initial plans to just sell meth directly to her as a recovering addict and put together his own walter white-esque "fund" for his daughter instantly evaporate when he sees brock and realizes that andrea is also just a single parent trying to navigate addiction. they're so similar and jesse, having not encountered anyone in this specific situation yet, kind of desperately clasps onto her. he really likes her and she likes him, but a big part of it is truly just. jesse desperately wanting to be around someone who Understands. and andrea does understand!! she has support from her mom, but she had to figure out a lot of this child-rearing stuff by herself and sees a lot of her slightly younger self in jesse. the way he wants to provide the Best for his kid, but doesn't trust anyone else to give it to her. she feels the same way about brock a lot of the time, even though she knows now that its not necessarily them vs the world.

the thing about au squared andrea is that she realizes through observing jesse's behavior and his feelings about raising baby that he's a very sweet guy who is great to be around, but they are not on the same timeline and she doesnt really feel like "dating" is the right arrangement for them. andrea's not in a place yet where she wants to incorporate a romantic relationship into her life and jesse, god bless him, has an overeagerness to him that tells her that he's diving into this because he badly wants A Connection, which doesn't necessarily have to be romantic!! she talks to him about this and asks instead if they can just be friends, so that's what they become. andrea is his dear friend :') jesse still cares very deeply for her and brock and tries to spoil them both (if he's going to get baby a swagged out play mat, then its only fair that brock gets a sick new transformer toy and andrea gets memory foam slippers for after long shifts on her feet at work. u know. if he's already going to be out). brock adores him, but is initially less enthused about baby because well. she's a baby. she can't really talk coherently or play a significant role in his games and he can't use his toys with smaller, choking hazard parts around her, so he doesn't really know what his mom expects him to do with baby while she and jesse are talking. but he realizes that it's actually kind of fun to assume a "big brother" role (brock's a sweet kid :') he likes to be helpful) and teach baby things; she basically copies whatever he does after a certain point, which is extremely validating to him. plus, she's a pretty patient, docile little playmate, so she can play the role of "building that is on fire that the brave firetruck must extinguish" with tremendous skill. the highlight of his month is when they all go to the zoo together and brock gets to feed a handful of feed to one of the giraffes while baby looks at him just shocked and awed like :O

andrea remains a source of support and eventually befriends demi too, but as things get darker towards the end of the show (post-drew shooting), jesse withdraws a little from her to try to protect her. he already feels responsible for tomas being murdered and drew's killing just reminds him of how nobody, no matter how innocent, is safe from this shit. andrea and brock are too important to him to endanger, even if it means cutting himself off from a good friend. demi visits them a few times while jesse is in captivity just to be around Someone and so baby can play with brock, but it's weirdly uncomfortable and baby isn't acting the same without jesse there and demi soon worries too that the cantillos might become endangered through association with them, so she reluctantly withdraws. once jesse escapes and he and demi and baby make the trip to alaska, he still writes a letter for brock that he gives to ed, but he also writes one for andrea. he wants to thank her for the support she gave him, for guiding him and baby through so much uncertainty, for being such a wonderful woman and friend. "i hope baby grows up to be like u. i want to make sure she grows up to be like u." andrea never learns what became of jesse and baby and demi after the news breaks, but she keeps that letter in her nightstand drawer along with a messy scribble drawing that baby made for her and the ticket stubs from that zoo trip. she doesnt care what the news says. she doesnt care what the dea agents who come to question her think of jesse or their friendship. she knew him, the real him, and she will always love him.

went off topic but this was all just to say i hate when ppl make phoenix out to be some mastermind who was building the mason system for 7 years to get back at kristoph CUZ THAT MAKES NOOOOOOOO SENSE and the only way to come to tht conclusion is to just take everything at a surface level like the way 3-5 requires you to. cuz kristoph is already in jail for the murder of shadi smith, so what else is phoenix trying to incriminate him for?

being drew misham's murderer? yes ok, but if ur interpreting that all the mason system recordings were collected for the express purpose of incriminating kristoph for the murder of drew misham... this would mean that phoenix had known about the poisoned stamp and tht kristoph was planning to kill him with that. which is like, COME ON DUDE phoenix obviously didnt know abt that. if he did then we are reading two completely different stories and phoenix is a bigger asshole than i thought!

but ok maybe the mason system was a way for phoenix to collect evidence to prove the forged diary page was planted by kristoph, so phoenix can show this to whoever and get his badge back. except, if we ignore the mindfuckery implications of the Time Paradox for a second, phoenix had already known with near certainty that kristoph was the one behind the forgery 7 years ago, bc baby vera confirms that kristoph had commissioned her. which means that during these 7 years, phoenix couldve at any point revealed that kristoph had commissioned forged evidence, but he didnt. and why is that? well there are many possible reasons, like maybe vera's account isnt substantial enough, or maybe to prevent kristoph from retaliating and possibly hurting trucy, etc, but i think the most relevant possible reason is that phoenix had wanted to protect vera's identity, and not expose this young girl as a forger to the world at large. and the only reason why phoenix exposes her in 4-4 with the mason system is because her skills as a forger has already been proven at that point, and doing so is necessary to prove tht she hadnt killed her father. basically, the arguement that the mason system exists so phoenix could prove the forged evidence wasnt his idea just doesnt hold, bc phoenix couldve proven that 7 years ago, but chose not to in order to protect vera's identity (among other reasons).

like seriously the mason system isnt some master revenge plan that phoenix crafted in order to get back at kristoph bc like... he is in jail already, for the murder of shadi smith, and phoenix had already decided 7 years ago not to expose kristoph's forgery bc doing so would endanger vera. the mason system's actual purpose is to 1.) prove vera's innocence and 2.) show thalassa, who is serving as a jurist, what had happened to her family while she was gone. incriminating kristoph was never the end goal, but is just what ended up happening anyway, bc he happened to be the one responsible for drew's death. not to mention that the mason system being used for vera's trial is like a last minute change that only ended up happening bc of drew's death, which phoenix couldnt hv foreseen.

and i feel like another reason why ppl get this twisted idea of phoenix being a mastermind of sorts is bc of this line from 4-1:

paired with phoenix's really shady behavior throughout the game lol. but its like i said, if u really think 4-1 was also some sort of revenge plan bc of this line.... then that is some SURFACE level reading!! cuz phoenix wasnt laying a trap of any sorts, like he hadnt known tht kristoph would try to kill shadi or whatever. kristoph had killed a man, and phoenix convicted him for that, plain and simple. the forged bloody ace wasnt a way for phoenix to get his sick kicks in, being like "haha forged evidence uno reverse card", but rather a necessity; ace attorney has shown through these 4 games that its legal system is very flawed, with how its heavily relies on evidences and nothing else. forging the bloody ace was necessary to incriminate kristoph, but it was just a means to an end, and not some master plan. if phoenix is a mastermind that would make him as complicit as kristoph, as it would mean phoenix knew abt his plans to murder shadi and the mishams, but obviously phoenix hadnt known about all that. he isnt a genius he's just..... a time travelling shady fucker 😑

while krauss fails to comfort her and is, frankly, just kind of a prick, its understandable he doesnt want to involve her, i guess. its very interesting that this seems to be a cycle too, she is trying to secure a good marriage for her daughter as well, who she believes has no value of her own (bad grades, rowdy character.... undesirable leader and wife material), much like how she had to marry into this family too.

damn, so same as rosa perpetuating the physical violence.

its very touching to see natsuhi and jessica try and be nice and understanding to each other for Once. they really have to force themselves. its a lot of emotional labour that goes into it and its not perfect but there is value in it. even if ultimately i think it just brings up and enforces how big the chasm between them is. even though they are both in a similar position, strained and controlled by expectations around them, they cannot muster up the strength (and agency) to help each other and find happiness. sad!!!

and just like natsuhi, rosa has a short moment where she gets to express her apologies about pushing her trauma on her daughter. and much like natsuhi too, the message cannot reach its destination, no matter how good the intentions were.

Sorry about that, I know I've received multiple asks about that!

Alright kiddos, buckle up and be prepared to enter the world of Moe. (Chibi is kind of related as it is decended from Moe).

First, what is Moe?

Moe is a style of art and a genre of anime/manga which centralises around the idea of youthful innocence and cuteness derived thereof. It is historically depicted using mainly young or young looking girls, and originally played on the idea of invoking paternal protectiveness in the male audiences it was intended for.

Since its inception in the 90s it's focus has shifted, and most modern Moe is targeted at the opposite audience it was originally intended for, (adult men 20-45 - yes, Classic Moe targets the same age group as Seinen) instead focusing on young girls more in the Shojou category (13-18). Still, there's a lot of Classic Moe out there, and it's tone definitely delivers on the promise of inspiring protective feelings when it's done well.

Classic Moe Girls are:

A) usually some flavor of child,

B) naive and cluelessly reckless, often endangering themselves by letting their curiosity or convictions get the better of them. "Curiosity killed the cat" and all that. They're also sometimes naively brave.

C) because of the above mentioned, they often find themselves in trouble, and in Classic Moe fashion, the Father or Older Brother character must come to their rescue or otherwise save them from themselves. Martyrdom (of any character) and willingness to defend the indefensible is a big deal in Moe, and though often comedic, can get pretty intense sometimes.

My go-to example of Moe overall that is kinda serious is Bakemonogatari. You want Moe, there's all different kinds in there - in fact I'm pretty sure every kind is in there.

But back to Moe = parenting. Well, I didnt exactly say his interest would make him a good parent - but rather it potentially demonatrates that he has paternal and/or protective instincts.

The whole purpose of Classic Moe is to prey on these instincts - which would be cause enough for him to be interested, unto itself. He's fascinated by human things, especially things he does not quite understand, so a lack of instincts may be just as compelling of a reason for him to be intrigued.

But i have a hard time buying that he lacks protective or parental instincts, on multiple levels. The interest in Moe and cute things, which may very well herald from a dark source, just adds a piece of potential evidence.

I'm gonna go ahead and answer @teuf-el 's ask here too, and talk a little about my HC that Samael = Lilith.

Why? Given that Iblis = Ishtar, and Lilith is described as being rather Fiery, I've had people (ahem my partner) shed doubt on that assumption. Doesnt it make more sense for Iblis to be Lilith?

Yes, but also no.

Personally, I think Adam was a real person in BE, and very probably the first son of Lucifer, and possibly even a hybrid child if such a thing is possible between Lucifer and Shemihaza. Given that Iblis loves him so weirdly, you'd expect she, or someone else, might come up with a story injecting her into it. And on that front it makes sense.

But I am not so convinced, because Lilith and Samael are, in many ways, linked.

Alright, so starting at the beginning:

if you did not know, according to the Lilith myth, Abel is the son of Eve, and Cain is the son of Lilith, who was Adams first wife.

Lilith was cast from the Garden (Amahara) or in some versions just up and left on her own because she refused to submit to Adam. She would not obey him, not even in sex, in which she famously refused to be under him.

Once outside the Garden she "coupled with" the archangel Samael, and swore never to return to the Garden or have anything to do with Adam. From this point onward, in several texts, including the Talmud, Samael is synonymous with Lilith, though the exact nature of this is debatable. Some Historians believe it's meant to imply they were husband/wife (an interesting idea on its own) some argue they became the same person, since Archangel Samael is a sketchy dude anyway ( breif recap: his job is to bring about calamity, stir up derision, and bring misfortune upon believers in order to strengthen their will and belief in God, by pretty much doing his damndest to make them doubt His existence) and Lilith and Samael both do similar things and serve similar mythological functions.

The big thing with Lilith is that because she left the Garden and could not return, she had to leave baby Cain behind. This utterly devastated her, and inspired her to become a jealous, broody mother who would steal infants in the night, trying to replace what she had lost. But in one way or another she always - by accident or by intention - ends up killing the child. She goes on to have more "children" of her own, but they are "hideous and deformed demons" who do not inspire her maternal instinct the same way. She wantonly kills quite a lot of these children, often eating them, bitter and resentful that none can replace Cain.

The ironic thing is that after Cain killed Abel, he was punished by "God" (or A god as it were) with the Mark of Cain - a curse that renders him immortal, but in a dreadful way, because everything around him dies wherever he goes. The ground he walks upon becomes barren of all life, and he must perpetually live to see the world around him suffer for his existence. That is Cains punishment.

Now, given the assumption from what we have seen whereby kin of Time seem to feed on the energy of living things, it seems plausible to me that Cain would be Samael's son, cursed by his own father/mother, quite possibly, or otherwise having to suffer his own power as a Nephilim.

Now, there's additional mythological considerations for my defense of his having parental instincts, semi supported by Canon - Loki.

Loki is both male and female, recall, and has several children, not the least of which is the World Serpent, Fenrir the giant wolf, and Sleipnir the 8 legged horse. They are the mother of both Sleipnir and Fenrir.

Not much is known of Loki's half human children, only that he did have them. Loki being a trickster God, was associated with the Devil by Catholic missionaries, so huge amounts of his mythology was lost or changed, but we do know he was known to fornicate with mortal humans too, and had children with them, we just don't know who they were.

I realise some of this is far fetched, but take into consideration that Samael in BE did help Shiro with the twins prior to collecting human helpers, and he does, if Salaryman Exorcist is even a little cannon, look out for Yukio in a distant way.

Assuming he is Lilith, and knowing he is Loki, and factoring in his love of Moe, and looking at how he handles Yukio, I stubbornly refuse to believe he has no parental instinct, and even less so that he doesn't have protective ones. Loki is an ass in his mythology, but he looks out for his family and helps them as much as he annoys them, despite being adopted.

Just been thinking about the scene in "Gorizilla" where Adrien jumps off the skyscraper and Gabriel is forced to show some emotions while writing another post and I... I just-

I was just as glad as everyone else to see Gabriel expressing genuine concern and fear for Adrien, it hit especially hard BECAUSE he was being Hawkmoth at that moment. But this

THIS???

I just noticed how much of a bastard thing this was of him to say.

Think about it. This situation came to be because Gabriel completely disregarded Adrien when he just wanted to ask his father the short but very important question (which Adrien made known) of getting to see his mothers film in the movie theaters and send him away to his room when he noticed Adriens ring again which led to him suspecting Adrien to be Chat Noir. Gabriel wanted to confront Adrien about it but because Gabriel literally treated him like shit Adrien run away to see it anyway to which Gabriel reacts by sending the Gorilla after him (go after him yourself jerk,YOU fucked this up). The Gorilla can't catch Adrien though so Gabriel chews him out and immediately akumatizes him so Adrien has to reveal himself to free himself so he can help Ladybug deakumatize him.

Well, things escalate eventually leading to Adrien jumping off a skyscraper at the same time Ladybug gets caught by Gorizilla leaving her unable to save him from certain DEATH and here we are now

Adrien is falling to his death and Gabriel as Hawkmoth is literally BEGGING him to transform if he really indeed is Chat Noir.

Do you also see whats so genuinely fucked up about this scenario here? Let me repeat it:

Gabriel, the man who is not only the cause of all of this but also the one and only person involved who's is in complete control here, is begging ADRIEN, of whom he doesn't even know for sure if he really is Chat Noir, to transform to de-escalate his own fall to his death.

Gabriel Garbage Agreste, how DARE you start begging as if you were any kind of victim in this?!

Let me break it down just how much is wrong with all of this:

Even though Gabriel is fully aware that HE is the person in control here and is NOT sure if Adrien, who is literally about to die in mere moments, even has a definite way of saving himself, he's still putting the active "decision making" on ADRIEN. Who, let me remind you, can NOT hear Hawkmoth/Gabriel begging him to transform! Gabriel is making ADRIEN the one responsible for the outcome of this situation right now even though there is still the very real possibility that Adrien has no possible way of knowing that Hawkmoth is counting on him to transform BECAUSE HE MIGHT NOT BE A MIRACULOUS HOLDER IN THE FIRST PLACE!

It doesn't matter at all that Gabriel was correct with his suspicion because he's just immediately throwing all the responsibility he holds for this entire situation right off of himself, playing poor bystander father, when HE is the one who holds all the power and therefore should be the one immediately taking action in HIS chaos for which HIS SON is about to lose his life!

In addition to that point, let's talk about the ridiculous amount of time Gabriel let Adrien fall while just standing there waiting and begging.

Because Gabriel is not only asking Adrien to transform once, he's asking TWICE.

There are 31(!!!) seconds beween Hawkmoths reaction to Adrien jumping and Ladybugs yoyo-string reaching Adrien and even though one certainly can make an argument here that the show time does not translate into the “real” time as well, but even if, there is no way in hell these 31 insane seconds would ever realistically come down to a number that isnt unforgivable long concidering the circumstances. And even then he's only letting Ladybug go to catch him because he hears Ladybug call to an absend Chat Noir for help, finally getting it through his thick skull just how close he is to having his own sons blood on his hands.

Gabriel was willing to let his own, possibly innocent, son fall to his DEATH for this long for the off-chance of him revealing himself to be Chat Noir because Gabriel is unwilling or simply incapable of taking on the obvious responsibility he holds until things reach such unspeakable limits that he has to face reality for a moment so not everything goes up in flames.

But I'm not done yet. Oh no, definitely NOT.

Because even after waiting for so long he’s forced to let Ladybug go, this is still not the moment that convinced Gabriel of Adriens innocence. Its only after Wayham doubles as Adrien while Adrien transforms into Chat to join the fight that the sight of Adrien and Chat Noir at the same place eventually convinces him.

Look at his face here and dare to tell me he wasnt still 100% convinced that Adrien could very likely be Chat Noir. Also dafuq kind of reaction is “Well, thats for the better” with THAT expression? That is NOT anywhere close to the relieved expression he SHOULD have had here! How much horrible stuff has already happened to Chat Noir at this point of the show? And THIS is how you react to the for-any-somewhat-resonable-parent GODSEND (but false) news that it wasnt your own flesh and blood you did this to? Yeah, you truly care Hawkbitch. Can someone please just call child protection services already?!

So even after this IMMENSE risk Adrien was not yet save from his supervillain father and neither was he Gabriels actual priority after “finding out” that Adrien is NOT Chat and he just put his CIVILIAN son through all of THIS. Which is exactly what happened in "heros day" part 1 and 2, where in part 1 he once again tells Gorizilla to protect Adrien, he is his "number 1 priority" but in part 2, after Adrien escaped from his akumatized bodyguard, Gorizilla is one of the giants Hawkmoth calls to himself but Gabriel has nothing to say to that. It was literally like he totally forgot about Adrien all together which is only made clearer by Hawkmoth later on straight up calling himself "a man with nothing to lose".

Fuck you Gabriel, Adrien was literally never an actual priority for you and you proof it over and over again.

And apparently even a situation that proofs someones innocence in every possible factor will not be proof enough for Gabriel to accept that he was wrong if it was HIM who had to back down and take the needed action to de-escalate the situation and not someone else. Any situation that forces "weakness" of him and doesnt end with an undoubtable proof that 100% satisfies/clears his previous intention holds no worth in credibility for him, no matter how irrational or contra-productive it is to still cling onto it. Because Gabriel/Hawkmoth refuses to be the one having to back down and to be out-stubborned by anyone else. If he isnt the one tricking the others his paranoia and ego stop him from thinking clearly. Especially concering Gabriels and Adriens always worsening relationship, this is a bloody dark red allert for the future.

But besides that, lets talk about just how much of an selfish, self-centered and irresponsible thing is it of him to ask ADRIEN to pull the sacrifice in this moment?

Adrien didn't refuse to transform for no reason. If he were to do it not only everybody in Paris would see it but HAWKMOTH as well and Adrien has no way of knowing that Hawkmoth at this point is not as much his enemy as he rightfully thinks and actually just wants him safe and sound right now. Adrien is perfectly aware that the moment Hawkmoth finds out about his identity he WILL take advantage of it, endangering his loved ones, friends etc (naturally including Gabriel himself as Adriens father as a big priority) and going after him mercilessly until he gets his ring. Adrien didn't refuse to save himself for nothing and that's important as hell!

Because here is Gabriel now begging Adrien to pull that exact sacrifice even though HE could stop this whenever he wanted, saving Adrien himself.

But he doesn't right away

And do you know why he doesn't?

Because stopping it required letting go of Ladybug and that could possibly lead to him losing the chance of getting her miraculous.

So this rotten insult to fatherhood wants to tell me now that he's a poor, poor father who fears for his dear sons life while basically asking ADRIEN to be the one to pull the bloody heavy sacrifice that will lead in Adriens eyes to horrible and devastating consequences for all of his loved ones and himself.

Just so Gabriel himself doesn't have to do it!

This is Gabriels default reaction by instinct. Gabriel are you FUCKING kidding me with this bullshit? How come I only noticed the fucked up second face of this scene now? I went so long actually giving Gabriel some legit credit for this but in reality this is beyond 7 stars of awful.

Once again, I applause Miraculous for this nuanced charactersation. This is what I will forever and ever love this show for and its fine to portray this because it obviously leads up to something

So I got alot of Thoughts abt all these amazing pcs and I've actually got in the works a bunch of character studies kinda, about each pc and all. Very fun stuff.

-Efink always needed other people to tell her they loved her, so that she could feel loved. Validation, something she had never received from her dad, from anyone. She fell in love with people so easily, too quickly and too strongly. She was never very good at being in love with people though. Once they realized just how self absorbed, how clingy, how desperate she was, they always left. But when percival told her that he loved her, and then he stayed. He was somewhere in line for the throne, but at the time she didnt care much. She just wanted to be loved, so she could feel like maybe she was worth something, anything. It's why she relied so much on her oracular skills, to know shes going ok, to know that people like her, to know that shes wanted. Shes needed that constant stream of validation like a fish needs water. Now, she doesnt. Her friends made her realize that. And while it's nice to get compliments and all, but now she knows for certain that shes loved, that shes wanted, that shes okay. And now, for the first time in her eternal life, shes happy with herself. She knows that shes enough.

-Leiland was used to being the last picked, the second, third choice, the least likely option. He's was in last place. And he'd always be in last. He'd always be like this. The undesired. The unwanted. So to feel wanted, for the first time in forever, was apart of it. The other was he wanted to see his family pay.

And then he was in second place to maggie... not that he was ever really in the running for first. Not like he ever would be. He was the last one. An afterthought at most. He would always be in last place compared to everyone else. No one would ever choose him.

Then, Maggie did. She chose him, his name for her child. And then leiland junior chose him too, as his right hand. And later he realized the rest if them choose him as well. They chose to keep him around, they chose to be friends with him. They all choose for him to be with then till the end. And he chose them as well.

-Maggie knows shes more than just who her dad or boyfriend is. She knows that. But sometimes it's just hard for other people to see that too. Shes strong. She isnt afraid of Zaul'nazh. She just doesnt want to talk about it with him right now. Shes not scared that he could just be using her for her power and father's connection shes not. She knows they're still in love. She knows. They have to be. Otherwise, she wouldnt be putting up with half the stuff he does.

But this tenuous love is feeling more and more like a obligation for him than a conscious choice.

Maggie has never had the chance to just be her own person, its always been about her dad or her boyfriend or the other generals or anything else. And maybe its selfish to want to do her own thing but who cares if it is or not because she deserves it. To have something entirely her own, to be someone entirely her own. And its wonderful.

-Markus never thought much about what to do next, after he killed his brother and took the throne. His plan had been step 1: kill tavian, step 2: take the throne. At the time he had made the flimsy plan, hed had his gold, his ship, his crew. Now he doesnt have any of that. But he still has the other lieutenants. And John Feathers. Maybe this would be a new start for him, maybe it wont. But whatever he does he knows the others will have his back and he'll have theirs. It's nice to have a crew he can count on again.

-Lilith has been around since the start of time. Shes an old soul, shes seen the start of the universe, she'll be here to see the end of it too. Shes gone through so many metamorphosis's, this ones just another change that wont matter in a few centuries. At least that's what she thought before. Before she was elected regent queen of bloodkeep. Before the others decided to care about one another, before she decided she cares. Well, shes always cared about her wonderful special children, they are her entire world. And now the generals are in that world too. And now she can help make a world where all of them can be in.

-Sokhbarr has always been an outcast. And hes always been fine with him, honestly. If other people couldnt see the majesty of these endangered bizarre creatures, well that's their problem. Hes always loved things that were a little odd and unique. But then people started to hate those creatures, that had dont nothing to them but exist. Now that kind of hatred was uncalled for. Sure, some if them were killers, and yeah alot of them would chase out villagers and maybe eat a few. But they were only protecting themselves. It's just in their nature to fight, to survive. To do whatever it takes to keep on going. And it was in his nature to protect them. And now it was his nature to protect his fellow generals too.

ok so first off I TOTALLY CALLED BLONDE BITCH BEING THE NEXT BIG BAD fuck yeah! I knew she plotted to kill her father and this was her sole purpose for luring Tic in, not because she wanted his power or prestige but because she knew it would give her shit dad enough hope to convince him to commit suicide by attempting some crazy spell lol. But there is no way she has Tic or Leti's best interests in mind, i am one hundred percent convinced that this girl is after power in the way her father wants power - which is like an awesome way of highlighting white womens tendency to want to gain the privilege of white men rather than seeking to destroy the entire system of privilege. Thats why i think Tic and Leti are gonna have to take the white lady down. Also pretty sure the white lady and creepy stare dude are the same person and that she can switch genders which is kinda cool, but also if she is the big bad and her evilness is tied to her fathers hatred of women and then we throw in some magical sex change and bisexuality in there...yeahhhhh. oh well, im not too concerned cause the rest of the story is too ducking good.

I AM SO CONFUSED BY ALL THE HORROR STUFF like i totally get all the history references (except for emmit till that was very sad and wow what detail), but i am shooting in the dark trying to figure out how all these different pieces of lore fit together. i think that might be the one complaint i have about the show, the rules of the magic are unclear and not well explained....i am very picky about magic and rules, ive been spoiled by diana wynne jones expert handling of this. BUT its a cool magic and the history side of the story is spectacular so again not too concerned.

Papa Tic is gay isnt he :( and in love with that bar owner dude, and this must be why George is Tic's real father (still in denial that he is dead) and why that one random guy who seems to be an old classmate of Tic and Leti's keeps taunting Tic about it. Papa Tic being gay could also explain why his father beat the life out of him but not George, which was always a little wishywashy and uncertain. If this is the case, im gonna cry, cause like that suddenly humanizes this character in a way that i think could make it possible for this epic quest to mend Tic and Papa Tic's family.

Im in love with Leti, like the entire show could be her character and Id probably be happy. I wish we could see more of her motivations, and as much as I enjoyed the spontaneous kiss it felt...well...spontaneous. 

Leti's sister and white bitch boy was...disturbing? I think it was supposed to be like a steamy sex scene???? I dont honestly know? It was just weird and fell under the im not watching this category alongside like the monsters ripping peoples heads off so...okay.

I CANT BELIEVE PAPA TIC DID THE THING and then the quote in the previews about the magic turning people evil....ALL this makes sense but like...as a history buff....I CANT BELIEVE PAPA TIC DID THE THING. i was super looking forward to having an ancient human deal with the modern world captain america style too. she was already one of my favorite characters and i was invested in her story and how they were all going to heal her and learn so much and then they just....did....that. im biased though, i desperately love any south american history and i think thats where they hinted she was from?? Maybe central america? It said something about many waters which made me immediately think of Tenochtitlan. but again i dont think im enough of an expert here to catch all the references.

 ANYWAY if the way the show is headed is that this magic corrupts peoples minds this totally fits with the allegory of the systems of power (white supremacy/racism) needing to be taken down and obliterated rather than (as blonde bitch lady is doing) working to infiltrate them from the inside and take power for themselves. This is also fitting with the fact that Tic didn't do anything to 'earn' his power - it was just birthright and shows how superficial the secret society's connections are. So, hopefully because of this Tic will be able to see through the temptation (theres a lot of adam eve and temptation stuff to delve into too) and allure of absolute power and realize that by learning this stuff he is actually endangering his family even more rather than hope to wield the power and protect them. Kinda like poor Boromir and the ring of power actually.

one thing that annoys me is people going but team rwby are traumatizied when the same thing could be said about ozpin ozpin was a like an old war vet who had ptsd and trauma . ozpin had every right to keep secrets I am sick of people trying to paint ozpin as a bad person or manipulative because he kept some secrets which needed to be kept secret due to many betrayals and if they go out it will only help salem like the relic if info is leaked to salem it will help her. this was kinda the wrong blog to send this to, because none of the mods are on Oz’s side

but let’s start from the top:

Oz had no right to keep secrets when those secrets were endangering lives (keeping the fact that the relics attract Grimm put hundreds of innocent civilians in danger for no reason because the heroes weren’t prepared), and he was purposely leading the heroes to on a pointless suicide mission rather than be straight with them that he had no plan

on top of that, he’s millennia old, so the fact that he can’t get over his thousand year old hurt feelings is literally not anyone else’s fault but his own, and he’s endangering lives over it - he’s had multiple lifetimes to get over it, and it’s made clear from Jinn’s description of things that for the most part he just moped and did nothing

second, Ozpin is manipulative, we see that in how he interacts with Pyrrha, coercing her into becoming the Fall Maiden by taking advantage of her nature and ensuring it by presenting it as an ultimatum - “become the Fall Maiden or the bad guys win” isn’t a choice, no matter how many times Qrow and Ozpin insist otherwise

it’s not just the keeping secrets thing, though that is part of it (oh, and FYI, his claim that he only keeps secrets and lies because he’s been betrayed in the past? was a lie, the first thing he did when meeting Salem again after reincarnating was lie to her, and he had far less sympathetic reasons to lie to her than she did to him - she was afraid of being judged by the one good thing her life ever had, he was lying to her because the God of Light told him she couldn’t be trusted. and we have confirmation from the writers that the gods are heavily based on Greek mythology, and those gods were assholes), he’s manipulative for far more than that

(oh and maybe Lionheart betrayed Ozpin…. because Ozpin lied about the mission… and Lionheart got scared because he couldn’t trust Ozpin… wild concept but maybe Ozpin is the mastermind behind his own destruction)

Ozpin demands trust but never reciprocates and then acts hurt when he’s inevitably betrayed over it, that’s his fault, no one elses

Yang keeping a single secret about Raven over a very personal issue when that secret no longer has any value to the rest of the group (they already have the Relic and the Vault is already dead, the Spring Maiden no longer holds any value to Ozpin as Relic’s already out and Salem doesn’t have much reason to pursue Spring knowing that the Relic is out of the box) is not the same thing as Ozpin lying to the group by keeping information from them that could get them killed. so show me where the hypocrisy lies here because i’m not seeing it. acting like one small, harmless act is comparable to thousands of constant lies

when RWBY keep secrets, it’s because they have to, they never do it simply because and have never done anything to intentionally endanger lives while Ozpin does it without a thought

oh and here’s a shocker, by being the person sending Summer on mission, Ozpin was knowingly endangering her, so yes, he actually does hold some responsibility for her death - that’s how the chain of command works

and yes, Ozpin is a coward for running away, because this is his fault, and he decides to hide himself away than deal with the consequences of his actions - he’s not a child, he’s not some scared little boy who needs his mommy to hold his hand - he is a millennia old asshole who is very much responsible for the mess everyone is in right now, or did you miss the part where Salem was peacefully holing herself away where no one could bother her? or that he was the only good thing in her life and by stabbing her in the back first by running away with the kids instead of talking to his wife when she got a liittle too edgy (which, by the way, wasn’t even her fault because the only reason she was like that by that point was because she’d tried to kill herself and didn’t know this result was a possibility, and that’s one slip after a near decade of happy marriage) and taking the first hope she’d had in so long away; of course she’d snap

that’s what Ozpin does, he builds people up on lies so they don’t know how far the drop really is - just because his goal is ostensibly noble doesn’t mean he is, especially when his actions are anything but

So, I'm curious, since you're so disapproving of the group doing what they did, and insist they should have listened to the adults who know better- what do YOU think they should have done? Ozpin admitted he had no plan and then up and fucked off. Qrow's 'advice' has been 'do nothing, just give up because there is no point'. You're seriously suggesting they should have just sat around the house twiddling their thumbs instead?

Of course not. I’m honestly shocked by the number of people who think that saying, “Don’t steal military property, refuse to surrender, stubbornly keep fighting an ally in a way that you know will attract grimm, and destroy a city’s primary defense” automatically equals “The gang is going to sit in the Cotta-Arc house and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the volume.” 

Beyond the fact that the plot could have gone in any number of directions… 

The gang sneaks into Atlas like Weiss snuck out. 

The gang re-contacts Ironwood and is then dealing with Cinder/Neo while they wait for him to arrive. 

The gang decides to try and talk to Ozpin, has an apologetic conversation, and discovers that he had a way of getting to Atlas from the start. 

The gang decides if they want to convince Cordovin to let them through they have to tell her something about the mission, complicating the themes of who gets to know what secrets and when it’s important “enough” to share them. 

The gang straight up doesn’t know what to do but has to drop the Atlas goal to save a kidnapped Oscar. 

Ruby might have realized that three days of being mad at her uncle doesn’t outweigh a lifetime of him mentoring her and listened when he said, “Don’t piss off the entire Atlas military.” The group sits down to at least attempt to come up with another plan. 

Weiss might have agreed that committing an act of treason against her Kingdom’s military is a bad idea and maybe they’ll let me contact Winter? She can help. 

We might have seen a re-surfacing of their earlier doubts. We’re in the most well-fortified, non-major city around. Cordovin is quite obviously keeping a tight reign on things. We have no idea that Cinder is alive, that Neo is still a part of this picture, haven’t seen Tyrian since our road trip, and we’ve never even met Watts. We have no idea bad guys are on our tail, so what if we considered leaving the relic here instead? 

The gang tries to steal an airship, fails, realizes their mistake, surrenders, and is turned over to Ironwood. Them accepting responsibility for bad choices leads to them getting what they wanted in the first place. 

...with the plot we got, they could have just sent Weiss. 

RWBYJNR’s mission is twofold: “Protect humanity and get the relic to Atlas.” Their mission is NOT “Get the whole group to Atlas under any means necessary, even if those means go against everything we stand for as huntsmen.” Everyone insists that Cordovin supposedly gave them no choice in this (ignoring everything possible above), but Cordovin is the only one who did offer a choice. RWBYJNR gave the ultimatum--let us into Atlas or else. Cordovin gave the negotiation--I have no reason to let a bunch of armed teens across a closed border, but I will let the Schnee heiress through. 

Boom. Done. Weiss gets on that airship with a relic and a friend--hidden in another suitcase or transformed as a bird if Cordovin really won’t let her travel with someone--and you’ve completed all your objectives. The relic is heading to Atlas. Weiss will contact Ironwood and help the rest of the group reconvene. And you haven’t stollen military property, messed with one of the few relay towers left standing, pissed off a major ally, endangered the lives of your team, endangered the citizens of Argus, and potentially strained kingdom relations in a way that might start another war. 

“There was no other way but to steal an airship” is a child’s logic. It doesn’t take into account their current situation (we’re in a super safe city and have no idea Salem’s subordinates are currently after us. We can afford to wait a bit and think on this. Treat is like the major decision it is), alternate possibilities that might be hard personally but better in the long run (sending Weiss), or how repercussions sometimes outweigh immediate results (is getting to Atlas this second important enough to risk all of the above?). It’s not a mature response by any stretch of the imagination, but is instead driven by an impulsive, narrow-minded attitude. This is precisely why the group needs to realize that “My way or the highway”--especially when “my way” is coming from a bunch of largely inexperienced and right now emotionally fragile teens--is a recipe for trouble.

ok so CLARKE AND HER TRAUMA: an explanation.(warning: long.)

Everyones rly upset about how clarke left bel behind to die when he would never do that to her. About how shes a hypocrite tasting her own medicine and doesnt have the right to be so upset. (I read someone described it as her having a hissy fit?).

I made this post abt how clarke is traumatised and y thats the reason she was able to feel nothing leaving bel behind. Now let me elaborate on that. 

Clarkes BIG trauma was her giving up in the desert ready to blow her brains out. And I mean: thats Clarke. Badass, cold, ruthless Clarke. Shes such a strong character, and for her to reach that point.., thats pretty intense, guys. After a traumatic experience like that its difficult to bounce back, to heal without someones help. And after you have such a low point, its very easy to develop a codependent, almost sick connection/addiction so something. Youre vulnerable and wounded, people pushed that far into desperation usually dont have any emotional strength left within themselves to heal. So usually they find something to distract themselves. The most common thing where this happens in our „non fictional“ world is a new partner after youve been hurt by someone. People with low self esteem who are unable to heal themselves find a new partner and every emotional connection they have to anything gets intertwined with that person, gets projected onto them. That can be self-worth, purpose, love, anything. Your happiness is completely dependant on your relationship with that new partner and how they treat you.

Now of course we are in the 100 universe here, where nothing is ever that mundane, and the stakes are way higher. But its the same principle. Clarke broke, and if she had found a way to heal, if she had found Madi maybe a year later, maybe she would have been better. But she didnt. She found Madi, and everything got projected onto her. Clarke was „gone“ emotionally, but that didnt mean she didnt still yearn for human interaction and love. So in order to cope, she became a purpose and kind of stopped being a person. Because that way she didnt have to deal with her trauma. With being left behind, with being all alone. She wasnt alone anymore now, but in a way she still was. A kid/grown up relationship is nothing like a relationship with someone equal to her. She had to burden everything, and at the end of the day, had noone to talk to. But she didnt feel that anymore, those emotions got neatly stacked away in her unconsciousness. Bc she had a purpose now: madi and her happiness. If you will, Madi was her escape: her excuse to not care about herself, her reason to not deal with her trauma. But that didnt mean she didnt still feel that trauma deep inside. And as the years passed, EVERYTHING got projected onto Madi. Kind of like an addiction, I guess. Most people who get addicted to substances do so in order to not feel whatever they were feeling. So Madi was her Whiskey: while she was with her, everything was good and bubbly and all right. But take Madi away, and we have 6 years of unprocessed, intense emotional trauma that never got dealt with? Plus Madis a sweetheart, and Clarke truly loves her.

And take the radio calls as proof that she did, in fact, feel that trauma. The calls were just another way of coping. She didnt know if shed ever see her friends again, and released she was in love with Bellamy Blake. SO her unconscious, dumb ass came up with another safety blanket: the hypothetical „solution“ to her trauma: for everyone to come back from space and out of that bunker. No need to deal with it, the only way to fix it would be for everyone to come back down anyways, right?

SO fast forward to right now. Everything shed hoped would „fix things“ happened, but nothing got fixed. If anything, she feels more alone than ever. Bellamy didnt wait for her, but she cant blame him, if anything she thinks of course he doesnt love her; never has. Her friends grew into a family shes not a part of. Her mom is god knows where. She realised the hypothetical solution to her trauma was a pipe dream. And the only time shes felt okay was when she was alone with Madi, being a purpose and not a person, not feeling anything but love for this girl.

And then in ep 5&8; she probably started to have a little hope. She had hope Bel and her could at least get some of their closeness back. She started to trust him, maybe even started to feel safe and comfortable. And then BAM he endangers Madi. Shes thrown back light years, bc she got hurt and her trust betrayed in her most vulnerable state.

So she shut down emotionally, and I mean COMPLETELY shut down. She straight up sort of lost her mind. The way she freaks out after bellamy leaves to use Madi? Holy shit. I dont want to know what it feels like inside of her. My poor baby. I mean she just goes to kill Octavia straight away? And O is literally like „what the fuck girl. What are you doing.“

SO in conclusion: Theres a hell of a lot going on inside of Clarke Griffin. Bellamy had 6 years with family and friends, he found love, he has a support system. And she? Shes got nothing. And plus she thinks Bel poisened O for his family and not for her, girl hasnt got a clue.

So its not like shes a stone cold bitch for leavng Bel behind. Its just that for the various reasons I listed, shes not strong enough to care for anything but Madi. She has no way to even start dealing with or feeling her own emotions, so she shuts down, which is why its so easy for her to leave bellamy behind to die. It really just goes to show how far gone this girl is. And thats it. Clarke needs a god damn break. Shes always been the strong one, for 4 seasons straight. And now its all fallen apart. They need to fix her and help her and hug her GOD DAMN IT. 

And one last thing: comparing bellamys reaction in S4 with the bunker to now is just not right. (or ton DC) Octavia is a grown ass woman, first of all, not an innocent child. Grown ups have different instincts when it comes to protecting children. Plus Bellamy does have issues to deal with regarding O, but theyre in no way comparable to Clarkes intense feelings for Madi. (the trauma and codependence I mean) and LASTLY Clarke knows shes being crazy. I dont think she thinks not using Madi its whats best for everyone. So shes not a hypocrite. The situations are totally, completely different. Thats what this show does. It comes up with terrible terrible situations to throw our characters in. These are new stakes. Not recycled moral dilemmas.

omg why does hachi kill?? how does megumi feel about that

AAAA CHAPTER 4 IS SUCH A WILD RIDE ITS REALLY SAD

what happens requires a bit of explianing. we dont have a motive for this chapter yet so we’re working off of personal relationships so far.

hibiki is yuuto’s twin brother and has hated him for years because of an inferiority complex. hibiki had also been messing around with hagane, the arms dealer, the entire game, until his death in the previous chapter. so as you ca imagine, hibiki is getting a bit unstable as time goes on, the only person he liked is dead and he’s going to be stuck inside with his hated twin brother for possibly forever, and he doesnt want that.

he’s manipulated by tomohiro into trying to devise a murder plan to kill yuuto, using yuutos generosity and kindness against him. hibiki feigns injury, knowing yuuto will offer to help him get around, and when an opportunity arises, hibiki pushes yuuto into the freezer and breaks the handle. trapping him inside. 

hibiki thinks he’s gotten away with murdering his twin, but fortunately for yuuto, chikaze comes around to the kitchen that night for some ice ream, a guilty pleasure of hers. she realizes that yuuto is trapped and dying inside the freezer, and runs to get hachi to break down the door and save him. they get to him on time, and revive him before he freezes to death.

yuuto doesnt tell the others who had conspired to kill him though; hes too forgiving and scared of hibiki, and doesnt want to endanger him by outing him as someone who is potentially dangerous. so he keeps quiet, making the others students not sure who to trust.

this is good for hibiki though, as it gives him another chance to kill. he thinks that aiming for megumi is a good idea, as megumi has been essential to solving the other crimes thus far, and without her, it’d be significantly harder to solve her own murder. he asks megumi to meet him privately one night, as he thinks he might know who it was who had attempted to kill yuuto, and megumi, unaware it was really him, agrees. 

hachi, however, is very skeptical of hibiki and does not trust him, so to make sure that megumi is alright, he decides to follow her and protect her should the opportunity arise. and it does- hibiki turns of megumi and attempts to murder her. she evades for a while, tries to get him to talk, but she knows she can be easily overpowered as hibiki gets on top of her.

hachi makes it to their secret meeting place and sees megumi about to take a fatal blow from hibikis attack, and in a blind rage and panic, hachi rushes over and throws hibiki off of megumi- and accidentally impales him on some exposed rebar of the abandoned building they’re in. hibiki dies as a result of the injury. 

they’re both horrified- hachi didn’t intend to kill hibiki, just to get him off of megumi, but hachi is very, very, strong, and threw him harder and further than he expected to. megumi is traumatized by it, but attempts to help hachi conceal the body by any means, hoping that if there is no body, there will be no trial. but megumi is injured from the attack, and theres no place to dispose of hibiki’s body- so they leave.

megumi spends most of the trial trying to divert suspicion to herself, so that maybe she can let hachi escape. but it doesnt work, as hachi confesses to it, and the vote is caught between the two of them for most of the trial, as neither one will let up. eventually, though, hachi is the only one who couldve done it, considering megumis physical weakness and injuries. 

megumi is absolutely broken and devastated after hachi is executed.- she views it as her own fault for being too weak and too dense to see into the trap hibiki led her into. he died protecting her, and she will never forget his sacrifice.
