2. Which of your fics is your pride and joy?

8. What's your favorite line/section of Nature's Naked Face? (It's my favorite of yours so far :) I've been going through all of them in chronological order, though I haven't read them all yet. I don't wanna go through them too fast :) And of course, the rest of them are nothing to scoff at! But oh my god, I love the world building of Nature's Naked Face 🧡🧡🧡 And "navigator, navigator" has actually become my newest vocal stim!)

2) Which of your fics is your pride and joy?

Afternoon Road, hands down. I committed myself heart and soul to make it as respectful and period accurate regarding the AIDS topic as possible, and I know I did a good job. It is important to me because of what happened around its creation, because it is my first fic and for what it "contains". Because of what it represents, to me. When I say that everything inside of it is true, I mean it (apart from the dates some of the events quoted happened. They did happen but in different years, not in the span of few months.).

So if you decide to read it again, or whoever is seeing this asks decides to read it for the first time, do it with the consciousness that what you're reading has happened. The pumper sticker? True. The nurses refusing to touch AIDS patients? True. Reagan's speech? I copy pasted it. The straightening of houses? I found out about it in a video of an elder gay man in which he described why and how it would happen. It's all true. It all happened. And chances are that if you're not too young, you were already born while AIDS was still widely around. I was.

None of this is taught in schools. And it shows. And fucking hurts.

8) What's your favorite line/section of Nature's Naked Face?

Uuuuuuh I have no idea. Ok probably the scene in the zombie town in which Tyler finds Josh surrounded by food cans in the grocery store. In my head it's a funny and cute scene. The mindless beings you believed to be your enemies turn out to be kind and caring. The whole section in the zombie town is peaceful. (And thank you so much for your words🥰)

12) What was the first fandom you wrote for? The first fandom I wrote for is... none. I started writing original stories in my mother language when I was fifteen, for five years straight, every single day until I decided to write Afternoon Road. So now, every single day I dedicate some time to the original story (who knows, one day I may be able to publish all the ones I've wrote for now) and some other time to the fic(s) I'm working on at the time. I don't think I'll ever write for any other fandom.

16. What do you struggle with most when writing?

Fillers between important scenes. Can't make them happen one after the other, that would be too many big things happening in too little time, but also for the sake of the pace. Gotta put some sort of quiet section, a break in between. But what? They're the parts I hit my head against the most.

Oh and titles. They're a nightmare. When I opened AO3's "new work" page I hadn't decided on a title for Woodwork yet, I just typed the first thing that popped up in my mind. Nature's Naked Face and the WIP I'm currently working on were the worst.

17) What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing?

The way I'm able to make reader feel and imagine what I describe, and the way I "built" The Growls. The first thing is something many users have said in their comments on AO3, especially under Woodwork, and every time I read them I get that burst of gratification, like "YES! I did it right, I did." because it's my exact goal when writing. Make the reader live the story the way I want them, make them see and feel what I want them to. About the second... I don't say I planned the story building of the Growls, like, sitting down and making a bullet point list, but it wasn't that far from it. Again, it's something that when users compliment me about in comments under The Growls sends me over the moon. "Yes yes, I did it right, I'm a good writer am I" and all that shit. When people recognize your efforts and skills, it's the best thing ever. And for me it's the confirm that there is something I'm good at for sure.

18. How many WIPs do you have, and how many do you expect to finish?

Officially, I have one WIP, which I will finish. I always work on one, two at most WIPs at a time, which I ALWAYS finish unless they start to feel "wrong" in the very first days of writing. For now, this has happened twice. The first was a thing I had started during (or before, I can't remember) the writing of ARWG and rapidly trashed after a few days. The second, started the day after i finished The Growls and lasted three. I started Suspirium after that. But yesterday I decided that one day I'll get back to it and work on it. It's important for me for personal reasons. Its name is "A fishing hook stuck in your throat". One day.

In general, if I start something it's to finish it. If i want to start another story while I'm already working on another, I work on both at the same time. Because I refuse abandon WIPs. Even if I have dozens of new story ideas in my head at the same time I start the next only once I finished the precedent. I think every writer should. This thing of having a dozen "16/? 24k" fics at the same time, I hate it. Finish. What. You. Start.

I don't see myself stopping writing fics any soon, so don't worry about that. In my head I have material for at least two years, and more will pop up during this time. When I finish one, I immediately start the next. I'm always writing, every day.

20. What's your favorite kiss scene you've ever written?

Woodwork's. Short, easy, soft. Quiet. I don't like writing and reading kiss scenes because they're so cliche. But that one, to my own taste, it's perfect.

27. Are any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

ARWG, Josh is inspired by a guy I met in high school and had the chance to observe, Debby's words about him are word-by-word the comments of a girl that was in class with him at uni. Tyler is (partially) myself. The feeling dumb and ashamed next to smart people because you're shit at what you're supposed to be good at, friends saying "we could do this we could do that" in your face then not inviting you, and all the rest. Woodwork, I've said it in the other ask. The one I'm working on now, Tie The Noose, and the WIP I talked about in 18) are the closest to my real life experiences, especially the WIP. Can't say more because that would be a spoiler. If you wanna know more, let me know after I posted Tie The Noose :)

35. What is a fic idea/trope that intrigues you, but you could never see yourself writing?

Hmmmmmmm. Trans Tyler. I've thought about it, but it would be only for the sake of smut and I feel it would be disrespectful, to use a delicate "trope" like that only for sex. Besides, I'm not sure I could be accurate about it. Also criminals, serial killers, vampires, werewolves, this kind of stuff. I've read fics with these tropes in the past, some are saved in my "Best" folder in google's bookmarks, but me writing them? No. They're not for me.

I find the demonization of Demeter in supposedly feminist retellings of the Hades and Persephone story thoroughly fascinating because she was actually the myth's protagonist

A lot of retellings focus on the "lovebirds" but the myth was moreso focused on Demeter's quest to bring her daughter home than any romance they might've had. In fact, the original source material is entitled "Homeric Hymn to Demeter"

It followed the goddess of harvest searching desperately for the whereabouts of her kidnapped daughter, enlisting the help of deities and mortals alike along the way, and eventually forcing Zeus himself to come to a compromise through sheer stubborness and pure love for her child

An interpretation I really like is that the tale is an allegory for mothers in Ancient Greece whose daughters were taken away from them to be married off without them having any say in the matter

Putting all that aside, I'm really curious as to what prompted people to portray Demeter as a control freak who doesn't want to see her daughter happy with the one she loves when originally, she was simply a mother who fought tooth and nail to see her Persephone returned to her

MC staying at Sylus' base one day, singing to themselves in the kitchen, making a drink maybe, just minding their own business. Little Mephie perched nearby as he is prone too.

Suddenly a warmth at their back as Sylus just stands there, staring down at them, face not BLANK but an emotion they don't really understand. He's not touching them, he's just there, staring, when they falter with their song, stopping out of curiousity, maybe worry.

Small flicker of a frown, a waver in deep red eyes. 'Don't stop'.

So they nudge him over to stand nearby so they feel a little less bug under a microscope, and haltingly continue, humming again before they re-find the rhythm and resume singing away, smiling to themselves and smiling at Sylus when he brokenly hums along trying to pick up the flow. Maybe he joins in properly, maybe he doesn't because this is the first time he's heard them sing in years and years.

A settling in the chest, doesn't matter the song, but as they smile at him and he hums along, he feels soothed like a tranquil lake.
