Mood. We've had to stop playing games like this because we'd get unhealthily addicted to "number go up"
Like we'd get a withdrawal like effect, we'd get anxious about missing out on potential number going up if we didn't have whatever idle game we were obsessing over running in the background of our computer 24/7. Doing schoolwork? Keep it in the background and tab in like every 5 minutes to check in on it and buy upgrades. Planning D&D? Same thing.
Other games that use the "number go up" formula often got greedy with their players and kept trying to exploit their addiction to make them spend money, they made it more and more grindy until it was impossible for free-to-play people like us to keep up. (We didn't have a job, so no consistent money, so that's a reason why we were FTP. I dunno if we would've fallen into the trap of spending tons of money on games like these if we had a consistent income)
After getting disillusioned with our latest "number go up" simulator, I decided to try cookie clicker because I heard it wasn't pay to win. Yeah, I used an autoclicker too. And CC was pretty neat and all, it wasn't exploitative, which I appreciate- it was a grindy game in its purest state, grinding for the sake of grinding, gaining numbers for the hell of it, instead of trying to make money off of players- but since it wasn't actively trying to exploit us with FOMO it let us stop and think, and we realized we don't even enjoy these kinds of games that have taken up hours and hours of our lives.
So we made a rule for ourselves. No more of these games. From now on, we only play games if we're actually enjoying them, not just playing it out of obligation to make the number go higher. And it was really hard to stop playing since we got that same kind of withdrawal effect, the little itch in the back of the head that "I could be more productive right now, if I just had one of those games open in the background while I write I would be more productive" but we had to just fight that.
Anyway, that's not to say nobody should play these games. I'm not writing this to shame anyone for playing them, I'm not trying to sound preachy and hope that it doesn't come off that way- this comic just reminded me of our experience with these types of games and I felt like talking about it since we were addicted to these kinds of games for a good while. Some people will definitely be able to handle the addicting nature of these games better than we can. Some people genuinely enjoy the grind because it lets them just turn off their brain for a little while or not have to focus too much on something. Just be mindful to not let it become an addiction, is all.
So yeah that's the story of how we had an addiction to really grindy idle games

#video game addiction#game addiction#emyr post#we used to play idle champions of the forgotten realms an unhealthy amount since we really like D&D#to be fair that game taught us about a lot of important D&D figures we otherwise wouldn't recognize so we're grateful for that#Like Jarlaxle. we wouldn't have known who the hell he was while prepping our out of the abyss campaign without that game having him#and that game gave us an idea for his personality which will be really useful for playing him as an npc#and it also made him grow on us#idk how accurate the game's personality was of him but still we started out indifferent and ended up liking him#as much as we'd like to our adhd prevents us from reading the books with the big famous characters like him and drizzt and bruenor#so we would've had very little exposure to characters like these otherwise#maybe we should listen to audiobooks more. but i digress#they ended up introducing a battle pass thingy and we dipped#because the entire point of season pass battle pass whatever they're called is to exploit FOMO to get you to pay money and we have no money#So we got disillusioned and moved onto the next game#We also played creatures of sonaria on roblox for a very long time#it's not really an idle game in the traditional sense it's supposed to be a creature survival game#honestly the creature designs are awesome and the flight mechanics in that game really feels satisfying to use#like there's flapping and gliding and soaring and wind currents and you have to manage your stamina and aiming downwards makes you faster#really pleasing for me since i'm otherkin#most games just make flight like creative mode minecraft and it's boring#unfortunately it has a gacha system for getting new creatures and the only reliable way to get currency is to afk and check in now and then#so you don't get kicked for afk or die of hunger or thirst#the intention is that you get currency for playing the game more but there's nothing to do as long as you keep your creature fed and watere#the missions system helped this problem a little bit but not a huge amount in our experience#so that's why it becomes afk hell unless you want to hunt other players for sport but killing for fun is generally frowned on by many#since most players are just trying to afk for money since there's nothing else to do#so if you kill them it's really inconvenient for their grind but it's also the only form of entertainment unless a seasonal event is on#and if the seasonal event is on then you feel rushed to grind for event currency to get the cool new creatures#oh today i learned there's a maximum tag cap oops

I simply think this fandom doesn't give Wei Wuxian enough credit for the various ways in which he saved Lan Wangji

Lan Wangji has always certainly been trying to protect Wei Wuxian#it took him a long time to figure how to successfully do that though#rereading the books rn and noticing theres a lot of instances that could be read as lwj being frustrated over his inability to protect wwx#like he seemed ready to cry when wwx went missing for a while and then came back with the cursed leg#lwj has always been great at protecting wwx from physical threats (ex: waterborn abyss) but had no idea how to protect him from himself#meanwhile wwx has always been instictually good at saving lwj from both#like I'm 100% lwj would've become like Jiang Cheng if wwx hadn't snapped him out of the blindly following authority thing#and also like... 15 y/o lwj wasnt happy with his life. he was lonely and stressed and literally signing up to be flogged whenever he goofed#wwx is who allowed lwj to grow up by showing him what it was like to actually be a kid (shown in story whenever lwj gets drunk)#he led lwj to having a more flexible mindset. and it both let lwj relax and set lwj up to be a better parent#looking into lwj's dynamic with the juniors- he lets them break a fuck ton of the petty rules and encourages them to question authority#he also teaches them to not be married to any one meathod of problem solving#wwx is also able to save lwj from his own stubbornness#ex: carrying lwj when he broke his leg. getting lwj to cough up bad blood. getting lwj to keep the rabbits#wwx also tends to give lwj the words he has trouble saying himself. helps him communicate#wwx also protects lwj in fights a lot but thats narratively less important#except the various times wwx puts himself in danger to help lwj. those times are what made it so lwj could never move on from wwx#like with the cave incident#or when wwx helped surpress the arm instead of using the chaos to escape cloud recesses#tldr i guess: i think this fandom tends to treat lwj being the best like its natural to him when really wwx accidentaly rewired his brain#I'm looking directly at fanfic writers who act like the Lans would've treated wwx better than the Jiangs#lwj had to do so much work and self reflection post meeting wwx to be the way he is. he is not the sole product of the Lan teachings

Her being kind to him in light of him knowing this#Catapulting his mind back to the person 'he used to be' and how hard he has tried to shake that choice he made all those years ago.#How hard he has tried to redeem all of that for it to come crashing back in the form of his rookie who was trying to protect him.#Because she's supposed to be different from him. She's supposed to be better. And he's mad at her for making the same choice.#But he's also mad at himself. Because he's supposed to be better and he's supposed to be different now.#Even though he isn't all that different. He was falsifying reports to protect Isabel.#He's supposed to be training her to be better and she made the same choice he made.#So his course of action is to rev up the training some more. Maybe he was too soft and lenient with her towards the end of s1#and he lost sight of his training methods and how rules matter.#but he also lowered his walls and was vulnerable with her. He let her in.#And he's going to keep letting her in despite how much he tries to resist.#with every act of kindness she shows him... the walls break down and soften a little#until all that remains is Tim's unwavering tenderness for Lucy.#that only seems to grow more in her presence and influence.

no offence but are you telling me that some people genuinely don't understand why they would use a scene from miguel's first tournament win, one where he was focused on winning at all cost, full of anger and fought dirty as a flashback during miguel's sekai taikai fight where he was told and shown to understand he can't go into a fight filled with anger or wanting revenge, acknowledged that he's going to fight for himself and how far he's come along with honouring everything johnny taught him, was told repeatedly that winning and point scoring isn't everything and to put everything out there, the good and the bad and just do his best and when fighting against axel, he fought clean and won fair and square.

When can we all stop fighting over June, she was literally confirmed because someone won a contest I simply do not care for a queer headcanon made canon on twitter after the fact because someone found a hidden candy bar, maybe if more had been done with it so far I would care, but ya barely got crumbs of it, like oh no John looked at his nails funny after painting them? I simply do not see it. It’s poorly implemented at best and basically never been done more then be confirmed on social media at worst.
Other characters experiences with gender have been done better, Eridan vriska and roxy’s gender experiences and codings all were done better(especially Eridan god I love that funky nonbinary fish), I just think June was lazily implemented, isn’t even really canon, and honestly near immediately got soured for me when people immediately used it in shipping wars because now June was “better” for shipping with female characters and proceeded to shit on the shippers before for their bad het ship they fixed (I was there, I saw it)
This along with the fact the epilogue and Homestuck 2 is infamous to a lot of fans due to character butchering, with characters like Dirk and Jane getting the worst of it, the existence of fucking Yiffany from rose cheating on kanaya with jade, and so much more utter bullshit it’s not surprising that the full rejection of all of it from a lot of fans isn’t uncommon. Personally I can’t read it because so much about Dirk’s character treatment straight up triggered me when the epilogues came out. I straight up cannot engage with that material safely.
To me, Homestuck ended with a bit of a mediocre finale with the end credits, and the supplementary material in regards to anything past it is dubiously canon at best (the epilogues were presented in a fanfiction format ffs that’s not exactly screaming canon) and that has nothing to do with whatever specific piece of Homestuck 2 you happen to like, by this point the boat has long sank by the fact it’s taken so damn long to even get going
Clarification:
i dont even inherently dislike the idea of june i just hate how she was handled along with the rest of the epilogues and homestuck 2 and view fighting over it as pointless. if they manage to turn it around good great im happy for her! but it was announced what? six years ago by this point? can you really blame someone for not caring with how basically nothing for six years june was? Again, the most you got of canon for six years was one picture of john going "ooo" at nail polish, that is nothing, that is less then nothing, that could mean 2 billion different things.
Roxy got a full ass delving into gender with their pesterquest if i remember right, as did Eridan with his VERY complicated relationship to gender, and Vriska got a lot more coding through mentions of her inexperience with makeup. If June manages to turn it around, I'll be thrilled, but she hasn't yet, she's barely a concept.
I'm not thumbing my nose at characters being transfem, do you know my absolute delight if I dunno, Tavros started talking about how he looked up to Vriska as some icon of womanhood he could never possibly obtain but now that he's grown more he's realized Vriska doesn't get to define what being a woman means to him and came out as a girl? I would lose my mind
My problem isn't "ew girls" its "there was nothing done with this for six years, the post homestuck epilogue stuff has been shown to be extremely careless with sensitive subjects, looking at you jade, i do not trust it or consider it good representation from the dismal showing"

#like. like ok#so was on a thought of how craftworld and bunkum can communicate right. bc newton connected their networks#(so he could talk to shadow n the squad right bc bro wants outta bunkum bc hes the dipshit who almost destroyed it. among other things)#did that to create the portal. which was an upgrade to travel between the 2 worlds. the only way before that?#cptn pud (*coughwankercoughcough*). bc ship slow as hell WHICH IS WHY he wasnt around much bc he was always at. go on guess...#INTERSTELLAR JUNCTION. which has more stuff going to other places bc. come on. theyre more interesting#so why is ol cappy in charge of that? bc he knows the route. he MADE the route. bc he GREW UP ON CRAFTWORLD with members of the alliance#who all hate him now btw#BUT THEN. #ask#anon#pazuzu's just been there since the beginning#mainly because my avatar use to be of 2D in front of the d-sides album cover. or atleast one of the covers#and i had a lot of transparent edits of 2D over that cover#but when i had Boe made. i put him over it instead and i just kinda kept it like that cause i thought the colours together were really nice#as for the blurry swirls. i just like doing simple effects in paintdotnet#i don't really imagine them as much besides the blurriness of the minds eye. like this is how you'd see the inside of my brain maybe.#or not really my brain. boes minds eye maybe.#i don't know if i have a ''lore explanation'' for pazuzu in Boe's life in limbo/hell#or specifically in relation to Boe i mean#i'd still like to actually visualize what limbo looks like. or specifically the area in limbo in which Boe lives#which is just an old manor in the middle of nowhere. with old computer crts and keyboards in the mud of his back yard#dark purplish skies with maybe blueish roaming fields with no horizon#i do have a map file of me trying to create what i imagine to be Boes house but i've only blocked out his porch#i've got a loose idea of what the layout of his house's interior is like but nothing solid honestly#the reason he lives in an old manor is due to mystery case files: ravenhearst. inspiration-wise#use to play that growing up from bigfishgames. fucking love the look of that manor and the intense mess that resides within#i think i also think about the Gorillaz' o green world phase where they had kong studio's absolutely trashed with junk and shit#did actually buy MCF Ravenhearst the other day actually. specifically for higher res ref images of rooms#played a little of it the other day but i was so tired for most of that day so i didnt play for long#anyway. thank you for the ask anon :) yeah he's always been there. pazuzu kinda just blends into the background i think
