Just wanted to tell you that i love your Nightmare and Fresh headcanons and personalities ^_^

I love how your Nightmare is such a menace 😭, i dont necessarily enjoy when people make him dadmare (to each their own ofc), so seeing this nightmare is so reFRESHing! I love how you show us his thought process too, its seriously so interesting to see how he thinks

I am also, ahh, not the most interested in dadmare... I prefer when he is genuinely cruel and an awful person, because I like when characters are just the worst :-][I do feel like I sand off many of the hard edges though, even still... bad habit of mine, to try and make them more palatable hehe]

Also a reason Nightmare is so interesting to me is as a tool to show more of Fresh's characterization off. Most of what I see with Fresh is either ignoring how morally grey he is, or characters helping him get "better." Nightmare though, I feel like he could really show off and feed into Fresh's worst habits.

Nightmare would do very little to make Fresh stop being so existentially terrified of death, I think he'd even feed into it or try to make it worse; its useful to him, it keeps Fresh close. Nightmare is powerful, and if Fresh is so scared all the time, it means it would want to have a strong ally to protect it.

Also the lack of regard for others/using others in self interest. Extremely self explanatory, I think they are just enjoying meals together X]

I also think Nightmare treats Fresh different to the rest of his gang; the gang is useful in what they can do For Nightmare, and only producers of negativity second. Fresh, however, would probably not be a very public ally to Nightmare, and wouldn't provide that sort of thing. His use is in his own suffering, and the suffering of the host he's inhibiting. Which means Nightmare cares less for using him in more practical ways, and more for just Keeping him.

This leads to Fresh getting more special treatment, almost akin to pampering HAHA. Nightmare needs to show that Fresh would have a better time With him than Away from him. He has to balance what he wants of the relationship with the fact that Fresh is liable to bolt if He's not providing enough to Fresh. [And I think escaping, fleeing, is one of Fresh's strong-suits.]

Also sorry gahaha, you had such lovely things to say about my nightmare interpretation, but I just went off about freshi and how he's affected by the relationship.

okay so I wrote this with a completely empty head but now I have thoughts so uh, here you go

first the words, obviously.

Pony was always the best of the entire gang okay, we know that. He was the one with the potential to escape Tulsa, to make something of his life, to go and do something the rest of them never could. He is trying to fly away from that wire.

Johnny however, can't leave Tulsa. As much as he talks about leaving with Pony, you kinda just get the feeling that he will never leave Tulsa, he's not that type of person. I mean his parents were terrible to him and he didn't leave them, just like how Tulsa was terrible to him, he won't leave it no matter what. He says he wants to leave that wire but he is a liar.

okay, so I didn't even know these lyrics exist when I originally made this post but holy crap I was even more right.

Pony wants to get out of Tulsa and he wants to take Johnny with him so bad, but Johnny is tired. He can't (or possibly won't as previously mentioned) get out of Tulsa, he's tired. Life has been hard,(the sky is overcast) and I'm sorry, one more or one less (Johnny dying holy crap) nobody's worried. Because when a hood dies nobody cares. I mean, isn't the world better off with one less problematic kid? Isn't it?

i think this one is self explanatory, with past explanation. They say they'll make it out together, but Johnny was never gonna.

Now, lyric wise, this song is perfect, but one thing that isn't talked about a lot when comparing a dynamic/relationship/trope etc to a song is the actual melody throughout the song.

If you haven't heard the song or forgot how it goes and changes throughout, go listen to it now please.

At the start it's chill and pleasant, a little sad but nothing crazy, just the soft instrumentation in the background and soft staccato vocalization, chill. (the start of the book)

As it goes, it gets tenser and tenser, gaining harmonies *most of which aren't major) and gaining volume. (the murder, staying in the church)

Then it hits that climax where the vocal part splits off the melody, and goes up, creating that beautiful crashing chord that is the epitome of "Oh no" (the fire, the hospital, the rumble)

and then it stops.

it goes back to that start where it's sad and soft, everything is the same,

but its not.

My story roles are roughly based on Carl Jung's theory of the 12 story archetypes. I know I'm going to have to redraw this at some point when we meet the rest of the keys bc Punko will do it differently but that's a later me problem

Of course we have our faves, Goldie, Bronze and Silver. Who are the Hero, helper and heroine respectively

In the archetypes, Hero is self explanatory, but Helper is equivalent to the 'caregiver' role, and the 'Heroine' is just an aspect of the hero. But I think the 'Heroine' role could replace the 'everyman' role. So there's that.

NOX AND VIOLET EVERYBODY!!!!!

I actually think Nox suits him so well, although I still think of him as Buddy most of the time

The 'villain' and 'villainess' don't really exist in the archetypes, although there is a role called the 'outlaw', which I expect would kind of be an antagonist. But because of what we know of them so far, Nox (Buddy) replaces the 'explorer'. Not that this is very important

Sorry the picture turned out so big!!! This is Cerulean. I invented him for my fic Darcy Forenski and the Summer She Was a Wizard and he's the mentor key, which is the 'sage' role. They're the same thing. It's why he has a beard :D

This is Garnet, the ruler key. We've seen an arm of a red key in the episode 'dreams by day', so I just drew the rest of him lol

This is Sparaxis, the trickster key. In Cinderella boy, there's a 'thief' key that's mentioned, and in the 12 story roles there's a 'jester' key. Because Buddy (Nox) was the black colour I kind of ran out of ideas to make them look more like a thief, so I just made them a trickster with a jester hat.

Also the name sparaxis comes from an orange-coloured flower

This is Greywen, the creator/inventor key. What role does this allow you to access? Mad scientist. Artists. People that set the plot in motion. (she kind of ended up looking a little bit like prunella. Oops)

This is Ivy, the magician key. I did not draw her very well. But we also saw her in 'Dreams by day' in Silver's dream, and I thought the wings fit well with the magic idea.

This is Ambrose, the lover key. I know, I know! Its been said that there is no 'love interest' key, but that doesn't mean there can't be a 'lover' key. I mean, I guess he could be the thief key but that would just make him Hermes

Last, but certainly not least, we have Platinum. The innocent/the shadow.

This role is kind of hard to explain because in the 12 roles theory there's a role called the 'innocent', which is like the doomed innocent. The things that are good in the world. But there are a lot of roles that don't quite fit if you put all 12 keys in a story, and also because the keys are people I don't think she would be this perfect little girl all the time, even though she might look it. That's why I called her the shadow. I think this one is the least likely to be part of canon but it's what made the most sense to me

speaking of convoluted family trees, im trying to map out my version of the mythology and what i want from it. im aware this is the most basic bitch ass interpretation of the family line (not including the rest of the ennead because other than the whole "whos your daddy" type of story line with anubis) its pretty self explanatory

(asterisks mean i havent finalizing a design for them yet)

just some notes on this diagram because i love explaining:

- ive decided to group bastet, sekhmet, and hathor as a little sister group. in most recollections of the myth bastet and hathor are daughters of ra (all three of them are somehow listed as also being ra's consorts. which i get for hathor but why the other two), but for here i wanted them to be related but not through ra, but through sekhmet since the most important aspect of their character is being the calmer, softer side(s) of her.

- also i made sekhmet the oldest, hathor the middle child, and bastet the youngest in this trio lol

- i also opted to not make hathor ra's consort because i dont personally see ra being with anyone (other creator gods (often) do have female counterparts, i.e ptah with sekhmet, the ogdoad, thoth and ma'at, etc). i just think its a fun dynamic if he had all of these children by himself (mostly daughters too, poor shu)
