I cant go to bed and i fear ill forget ths but wht is the difference in relationship between Odysseus x menelaus and odysseus x diomedes. i hve only read summaries of the illiad but i will read eventually. if ths seem a little random its cause i keep seeing fanart ships of the two ships (ikkkk guilty pleasure crucify me or whatever) and cant differentiate the difference. im sorry if ths does not make sense for my sleep deprived brain basically wht i am asking is what their difference in relationship (NOT IN FANON) like is menelaus more harsher to ody etccc

Hahahahaha I absolutely get this feeling! And boy that is a very very good question and a favorite of mine given how much I love Odysseus's relationships with his peers or men! And it is not random at all! I think it is a massively important question because the Iliad is not a pure war novel that talks about the anger of a demigod. It is also a story of war companionship, friendship and cooperation etc so the relationships between the heroes is great. And probably have noticed from this fanfiction of mine that I love exploring the two of them in regards to Odysseus and the other way round.

I am incredibly sorry if this gets long again for I have no self-control hahahaha!

So let's start with what they have in common. Both men, Diomedes and Menelaus, hold great respect for Odysseus at least as far as Homer is concerned (because dynamics are vastly different in post-homeric sources). Both kings seem to be speaking with the warmest words for Odysseus in the Odyssey as I have also slightly touched to my analysis about Achilles and Patroclus relationship. Basically Menelaus speaks on how Odysseus's fate makes him distressed so much that he cannot eat or sleep anymore. He also yells in exaspiration when Telemachus mentions how the suitors are eating away Odysseus's wealth and pry on his wife. During the Iliad Menelaus considered Odysseus nothing less than irreplacable and valuable. You can see my analysis here but here's the original passage and my own translation for it:

But let's go and help him, that's the best course! For I am afraid if anything bad happened to him as he is isolated by the Trojans, he will be incredibly missed by the Danaans!

So basically he says "if we lose him we're done for!". In Menelaus's mind Odysseus is an irreplacable valuable friend. He even leads him out of battle the best he can till his chariot comes to take him. Diomedes thinks similarly of him in the Iliad. In fact in 10th rhapsody of the Iliad when he chooses him as the partner for the counterspy mission to the Trojan side he says (again my translation);

If you ask from me to pick a partner to go with, how can I choose anyone else but godly Odysseus who has both fast wits and heroic heart and works hard for everyone, Pallas Athena loves him. If I follow him even through wild fire, we shall both return, this I know very well!

So yeah once again we have a complete flattery here. Diomedes thinks there is no better man than Odsseus to go with him on a mission because he believes in his skills and he knows both of them shall return from the battle which almost seems like he wants to redeem himself since two rhapsodies prior he lashes out to Odysseus calling him a coward for running lol! But I shall elaborate further below.

So both heroes have the most profound respect for Odysseus in battle and as a person. Now apart from that the differences between each person's appreciation or differences with each other seem to be very few and they seem to be ematating from the ages of the characters.

Menelaus is closer to Odysseus in age than Diomedes who is arguably the youngest among the kings so his relationship with him seems to be more direct in the level of experience in life and they speak in a more diplomatic or daresay "equal" manner in the essence of their age. Diomedes and Odysseus seem almost to have like a father and son relationship or mentor and protege even if of course both kings are tecnically equal. I am talking on age only. Diomedes seems to be sticking around Odysseus almost like a son figure and Odysseus seems to be trusting Diomedes with his plans and missions like no other because he knows his capabilities in battle and they both share the love of the same patron goddess, Athena

In one way I feel it is the other way round; that Menelaus is generally meeker with Odysseus while as I talked here Diomedes accuses Odysseus two rhapsodies before his praise in rhapsody 10 because Odysseus didn't run to assist him save Nestor (Diomedes seemed to be disobaying the gods at that moment and he was stopped by a lightning of Zeus) but that is probably because Diomedes's personality is generally harsher and more straightforward which makes sense given that not only is he younger but also because he was a soldier since he was a child (he was 14 at the war of Epigonoi)

But for sure it all depends on how you personally interpret the characters as well! I usually do not interpret them as lovers in fact we do not have much of evidence for that however if you also interpret their relationship as such it is up to your perception really.

to keep it real my peanut brain decided its time to get Executive dysfunction so I still owe the dearest legoaronist a drawing AND i went insane over a new thing which im making 99999999 things for every day. but i shall still answer this !!!!

in truth my fav thing to draw are landscapes in pencil, I think it is MAYBE what I’m best at but…..I dont liek making them digitally lol. I think the thing I draw MOST is jsut whatever anime-ish things or my own characters, or fanart. actually, I think I mostly draw fanart. and it’s the only thing I post here.

you were actually the first person to ever ask me to draw something other than a character!!!!!! with that one time and the bike request which might’ve been a joke I forgot. also art becomes a burden when it becomes difficult for me to do, even if its fun. if it takes too long for me to understand how to make a specific drawing, i physically cannot bring myself to do it. like in art, i straight up gave up an entire large assignment just because I couldn’t figure out realism in 20 minutes.

as far as things other than characters and landscapes go, I….havent drawn an animal in several years now that I think about it

Hi, newly making the transition from twitter to tumblr. I followed you for the BTS connection, but I noticed you are a fan of The Untamed. I just finished the show and now I'm working my way through the show again, the second book, and the anime (!) I have so many questions. I am curious why you think Yanli agreed to marry Jin Zixuan after he treated her so badly? That whole part of the story felt strange to me and I wonder if the books will explain it better? It was so random how he was such a jerk and then overnight decided he liked her. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Friend we are like in the SAME SPOT in the book so far! Lol I'm only through vol 2. I've seen the untamed and I haven't seen the donghua yet. But I've seen clips. I'll find someway to watch that one after I finish the books I'm sure. But i do think we are getting better characterizations in the novel then we got in the show. We are seeing so much more from every character!

As for Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli. I'm sure we will see more in future volumes, which could change my answer here....BUT for now, it honestly just gives me stupid teenage boy vibes. Lol i think he resented the idea of an arranged marriage (and look at his parents marriages, not exactly giving the idea to him growing up that marriage is fun 🙃 the serial cheating, the multiple half siblings born from said cheating, and the way they only tolerated each other). And I think he just handled that resentment poorly. He couldn't take it out on his parents, who he was ACTUALLY upset with, so he dealt with it by being a bitch to Yanli. Who didn't deserve it at all and is way more forgiving than I am 😂

But seriously, he was a young kid and handled his emotions badly. They were all teenagers in the cloud recesses flashbacks, like 16ish years old give or take. And then BARELY adults during the war. And he barely knew this girl he was supposed to marry for political alliances. It's fair to have not wanted that. But it's NOT fair for how he handled not wanting that 😂

And then once that pressure was removed and their engagement broken and Yanli's protective brothers punched some sense into him for his bad behavior once or twice and he grew up and got to know her. I think they just geniunely fell in love on their own. I definitely don't think it was an overnight change. Nor do I think he ever actually hated her. I think he was just pissy about his situation and handled it AWFULLY lol

And while Yanli forgives and forgets very quickly, her brothers seemed to be salty about it regardless of her loving him 🤣 at least in the show, we shall see how it is in the books. But yeah, I think he just grew up and Yanli doesn't seem to hold his past mistakes of harsh words to push her away against him.

And again. Who knows, my opinions here might change as I read more 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm still only 2 books in out of 5!

If yall aren't careful, I will NEVER shut up about the MDZS characters because I'm reading these books now and it IS my current hyperfixation lol

01. The character everyone gets wrong

It depends. My first thought was Hunter Sylvester. But I do see a lot of takes I agree with. I definitely wouldn't say everyone gets him wrong. I guess it's closer to maybe being about 50/50? But he's the character I've seen people get the most wrong I think. To the point where I wonder what fucking movie they watched cause it's not Metal Lords 2022 I know that much. The "he wouldn't say that" is strong.

The other answer would be Riley Finn (btvs) I guess. Because he is WIDELY hated by the fandom and there are just some scenes that I find really endearing. He has shitty moments, sure. He does. I'm not blind to those, nor do I excuse them. (Ultimatums are never ok!) But it feels like most of the fandom hates EVERYTHING about him and there is just an endearing quality to him for me. It's weird because my favorite Buffy character is Spike and it's not like Riley even makes it into my top 10. I don't love him as a character but I just...kinda like him?? Which is already in pretty stark contrast to most of the fandom I feel lol There is just something quite sweet about that goody two shoes soldier boy who's stressing out because everything he's ever been told is true and correct is crumbling around him. It's particularly the scene where he's helping Xander move that really does it for me I think. (I know you've been watching through Buffy for the first time and I don't think you've gotten to it yet so I'm trying not to be too spoilery) But yeah, I don't even have that strong of a defense of him at all. Again, I just…kinda like him. (disclaimer it's been a WHILE since my last watch-through, do not come for me)

08. Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

Eddie being a top/Dom. I have literally nothing to back that opinion up other than I prefer Bottom!Eddie + Top!Steve. I know I'm kinda the one that's wrong on this one but...I like what I like. And I shall be delusional about it lol

This one's not super common but tiny fandom so eh I don't see where people remotely get the idea that Hunter is into Clay. Nor vice versa to be honest. I don't think they're particularly on each other's radar one way or another. At most I feel like Clay would be like "he's kind of a dick...hope he's okay tho" (like after the party particularly) And I feel like Hunter forgets Clay exists when he's not actively standing in front of him.

16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

I must preface this by saying I have NO ISSUE what so ever with polyamory. It's all good, there should be more rep and the societal bullshit stigma needs to go. That being said... I just don't like poly skullflower, personally. It's not for me. I don't see it. I don't get it.

Also x reader anything I just can't and I don't get why people like it but to each their own.

17. there should be more of this type of fic/art

Basically any fanart of Metal Lords, preferably Hunter (obviously). But I'll take pretty much anything T-T I would love to have more Metal Lords fics to read too but I'm extremely picky about Hunter's characterization so I don't even know what to say I want more of, we'd be here all day lol

22. Your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

I guess I truly don't think I've seen anybody else acknowledge that Kevin is a Fallout fan. Not necessarily my "favorite part of canon" or anything but I genuinely don't think I've seen anybody talk about it. And I do like it, I think it's really fun. (I was going to say Hunter's anxiety initially but I don't know if that is technically canon?? Or if the jacket thing (just the idea of it being one jacket not the whole scenario lol) can be counted as canon. Or even if Hunter being in love with Kevin can be considered canon. It's how Adrian played Hunter but it wasn't in the script. I would consider that canon but it's not widely ignored so...Fallout.)

70. When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?

Depends on the person. Obviously in the online community I love chatting about writing and characters. If I find the right kind of nerdy person in person (lol) I will absolutely geek out with them and have a bonding moment where writing can come up. Generally though I don't tend to share with others what type of writing I do.

55. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?

I truly enjoy writing Porsche, he's just a sassy little shit that is a blast to get into the head of. He gets people, so well sometimes, and yet can't see how people and politics interact more often then not. It drives me crazy. But he's also unpredictable, what I might have thought he will do in a scene doesn't end up panning out because part of Porsche's nature is to be really reactive in the moment. That's completely different from me, which can sometimes come as a surprise when I am writing scenes from his perspective.

As for the second question, I don't think so? Porsche is rather beloved in the fandom, even if he is a himbo, so that probably influences it a lot. But I don't think that I would change even if that sentiment were to shift. These characters have really been lodged in my brain and I've spent a long time thinking about them and how the interact with others, that at this point I'm attached permanently!

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

Okay so full disclosure I cheated on this one cause I wrote a fic based off this absolute gem by @moerusai and I have no ragrets.

Sooo, it's almost like I have some already! But I would love to see Kinn and Porsche kitted out in their full drive suit look for Echoes in My Dreams. That would, honestly, there aren't words for how awesome that would be. It would be a good look on them I just know it.

There also may have been a promise from @mortimerlatrice that there would be fanart in exchange for a Big/Tay fic... I'm gonna go ahead and get this one documented to make it happen!

14. How do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?

Hooo buddy, it depends on the kind of emotional scene. I think when I'm writing something that is coming from a place of anger, hurt, or confusion, I really channel the emotions through myself and into the characters. These are especially raw emotions in my opinion and they have a physical tole on the body. So when I write them into a scene I can feel myself react to it.

Now, more positive interactions are more like a movie in my head being played out while narration goes through the whole thing. I can see the emotions that the characters are feeling in the moment and try to translate those through the narration into the scene. This ends up being a lot more intellectual than visceral for me.

Overall I think for the more dramatic scenes I really try to have a good fleshed out plan in place, but I also let the scene go where it naturally flows. Sometimes the emotions get in the way for a character and they aren't ready to do what I thought they should do then. This can throw wrenches into my outlines (and lets not talk about word count) but it feels more natural. As for writing from experience, absolutely, especially when describing the physical reactions that characters have. The feel of your cheeks burning as you get more heated in an argument, that weight in your stomach as you dread something, even the warm fuzzy feeling that a good hug can give you all come from my own reactions and experience.

was already producing an extensive answer in my head, when i reread this, and realized you didn't really mean gijinkas as a whole, but specifically humans, which. drastically changes the matter

well i shall answer anyway lol i assume for the most part yeah, it's for the exercise! it's certainly not an easy challenge, hk character designs are so funky and nicely minimalistic that it's hard to make sense of it on a real human being, make it look human, and keep them resemble their original form.

but yeah, i do find it that most of the attempts on humanizing cartoon-like characters just end up looking. plain, boring and bad, because people often focus on making them attractive, rather than reliably conveying their form (it's not just the issue with hk, someone in the tags mentioned undertale and....god yes these were atrocious)

IF WE ARE TO SPEAK ABOUT GIJINKAS AS A WHOLE THOUGH, i think these are much more fun (esp figuring out how much human do u want them to make, which features to abandon and which to keep) and i've seen a lot of cool ideas around the community, as well as proposed some of mine.

for me, i've preferred so far to draw gijinkas because i'm just more used to humanoid forms (yes ik sounds lazy, i will step out of that box one day i swear). they just never came out right while i tried to draw them as a creatures they are. so i instead experimented and settled on something that still has the human body shapes, so is in my comfort zone, but holds the key features of their original forms (for example, my vessels still have dark empty eyes and pale white skin).

so, it's also a matter of wanting to put it through a grinder of your own art style

lastly! it's also lovely how people stylize hk characters but keep them as bugs!!! i'm a big fan of how hk character fanarts can go from 1:1 how they look in game, to experimenting with bug designs, to people giving them more and more humanoid features, and how on the end of spectrum there lay straight up humans. there is such creativity in here, like nearly every fanartist has their own personal interpretation for hallownest's citizens

Can I ask an honest question?

Why do people create or see in humanized versions of non human characters?

Because a big reason why I end up liking some characters is that they got neat designs. Why would you turn them into normal humans? I mean, sometimes I even get into fandoms just because they got this silly-looking guy, lol.

Is it just some character design exercise thing or do some people like the human versions more?

So, in honor of LU's 4th anniversary, I will be sharing the results of my introducing the Boys to my younger sister! I basically showed her a bunch of pictures and she made assumptions while I laughed my ass off and tried to type while keeping up with what she was saying.

Here are the results of that!

Let's get into it, shall we?

"Getting a Hiccup vibe, but also Sokka- Is that a boomerang? It's a boomerang :)

"He a bit timid on the surface, but he's got his own thing going and is gonna stand up for what he wants to do. He'll go off and do his adventure stuff but he's also afraid of dying or getting hurt (like the 1st Hiccup freeing Toothless scene in the woods). Easily startled but quick to spring into action. Kinda like the sneak boi."

(Told me to make sure to type it "boi")

"Why Kuzko? I already don't like him. I feel like he's cocky, a bit of a flirt, tries to look cool and screws it up. Like he thinks he's really epic, "stand aside, let me do my thing", proceeds to blow himself up. Based on the fact that he's holding a bomb I'm guessing that he does something with explosives, but he's also got a sword. And what is that, a joker's vest? He looks like that weird kid who ran away to join the circus but is also a mercenary part time."

Everyone's gonna riot, you're just tearing into their favorites!

"Either he's really small and immature, or just really young, or both. I feel like the creator designed him to be this mischievous lovable character but I would probably hate him :). Probably takes on too much, tries to be a hero but he's to amateur. Probably has a dramatic backstory; like he's a prince or something. He's probably got like a high pitched annoying voice (she dislikes kids). He's like if Deku was younger and medieval, except I like Deku. He probably cries a lot too."

That mostly sums it up, but I did show her a piece of fanart, and she told me that Hyrule looks like my old OC Fitz (I might post the art one day, lol, it was terrible!), Warriors is He-Man, and Four is a blone Tarzan.

Additionally, I told her some of them were shifters, and when telling her that manga Legend becomes what is essentially a werewolf she went "Are there any vampires?"

I told her Wars was the closest to a vampire, but only because @mmmwafflesart made him one.

She did like the idea of Shadow though, go fig..

(If y'all are curious I might follow this up with her thoughts on Malon and Ravio, but those were recorded and I don't think she wants that chaos soundtrack out (my hands were too busy to type at the moment))

Thought process and easter egg on the Digimon Anniversary Illustration! 

Hello everyone, today I feel like explaining some stuff over my Digimon Illustration, mostly why I drew thing this way or point out some little details and easter eggs you might have missed. ;)

The Digimon illustration was a special one for me for different reasons. Firstly, obviously, Digimon! It was a show I grew up with, and I find it quite fitting that after a tough year of graduation movie under a pandemic, in which I really experienced the pain of growing up, I ended up finding back Digimon. 

Secondly, as a child, I remember spending HOURS looking for fanarts online! I would save all the ones I found pretty and keep them preciously, i still have the folders actually haha. While pursuing art, I always had in mind thatI wanted one day to make a fanart my child self would have gone crazy over! And, i think I achieved that with that one haha. 

Anyway LET’S START! Shall we? 

First off : the illustration process

When I do an illustration I always do a quick draft first, and most of the time, in colors. I think I’m more of a “color” person than a “line” person, I tend to need to see colors quickly in order to see if it’s ok. 

For this one, I’ve always had in mind it would be a double illustration, with the older Tai’s silhouette acting as a frame for the children illustration. It was a bit tricky, I had to make the children illustration fit nicely into his silhouette, it was hassle around the neck area, that’s why I made little Taichi stand up haha. Also used Mimi’s hat to balance the picture : the bottom part is very heavy and there’s only sky in the upper part, adding the hat helps making it more balanced. 

The character were the longest and the most challenging part by far. As you can see I had 3 different steps : super rough, they’re almost like stickmen and smiley face, a more detailled one in which I figure out their actual pose and anatomy, then a last one in which I fix some proportion, add details and clean. Fun fact I don’t clean over a new layer... i just erase the unwanted part of my sketch. :’D

I did a quick pass over the BG after that, then I colored the characters in flat colors before rendering them. It was a back and forth between the BG and the characters to make sure everything was working together nicely. 

Now was the time to render the BG, I did the tramway first, the flower field after. Fun fact, I did my flower field study in order to know how to approach the flowers in this illustration! If your have the time, i totally recommend finding a photograph close to the kind of BG you wanna do, and make a study of it so you can try your hand at it first and go into your own BG later with an idea of how to approach this.

Adjust colors, add flower petals and butterflies and emotional text, slap over a paper texture, and THERE. You have it! On to the next part now...

The meaningful details and easter eggs

Be aware there will be spoilers for Digimon Adventure 01 (but I assume you already know it), but also for Digimon Adventure : Last evolution Kizuna, which is the conclusion of the first serie. So read at your own risk! 

The tramway is obviously a reference to the end of Digimon Adventure 01. The kids used it to go back to their world, so It was their goodbye to their Digimon at this moment. In Kizuna, Tai and Matt find the tramway trapped in crystal in Menoa’s fake memory world. Hinting that had they been caught by her, their memories would have brought them back here.

Tailmon has Kari’s whistle! At the end of Digimon Adventure 01, Kari gives it to her as a memento. 

When I drew Sora, I had in mind how she was in Kizuna, very stressed out by her mom’s expectation, which led her to neglect Piyomon. She realized it too late, and after that she refused to fight because she wanted to keep Piyomon with her as long as possible. Tragically, she was the first one to lose her Digimon. Here I tried to convey a softness and a kind of “I won’t forget to appreciate you” vibe in the way she holds Piyomon’s hand. As for Mimi and Palmon, in Digimon adventure 01 Palmon was very emotionally affected by Mimi’s departure, so, a hug was fitting. :’) 

The screens on the Tramway display DA for Digimon Adventure, and also 01.08.1999 which is the date of the children’s journey’s beginning. :) 

The little drawings also show the 8 crests. 

There are butterflies flying over the illustration, it’s a reference to Butter-fly, the first Digimon opening, by the late Koji Wada. 

"I'll become a happy butterfly, and ride on the glittering wind, I'll come and see you soon. “

Now, let’s the see the counterpart of the illustration. The one with the grown up Tai from Kizuna.

I made him wear the hoodie he had in his very last adventure with Agumon.... but truthfully the reason is that I think hoodies are cool lol. And the hood’s volume gave me more space in the silhouette, which made it easier for me to do the other illustration inside.

You don’t see it clearly, but he is holding his Digivice, albeit the darkened version once his partner bond with Agumon is broken. The Tai in this illustration has already lost Agumon. (Yes it was painful for me to go fetch the screenshots)

He is also holding his dear signature google he used to wear as a child. Fun fact, I rewatched the older movies, and as a kid he even used to sleep with it, how cute haha. 

Also yes, the crest of Courage over his hand, which is his own. I’m so dumb I realize I should have made the time counter from the movie instead of the crest for a maximum emotional hurt impact. 

And the quote is from one of the trailer for Kizuna, I think.....................

But then you go : Oh that illustration is so depressing then! Well. Yes. But no. but yes. But not really. 

One of my favorite shot of the movie is this one : this is after Tai and Agumon learn their time together is limited. Agumon asks him if they will have to go separate ways once Tai is all grown up. Tai doesn’t answer, and takes him to eat something instead, as Agumon was hungry. In this shot Agumon eats to his heart content next to Tai, who’s not eating at all and just watches him fondly. I love that the framing doesnt show agumon. It’s a foreshadowing of their unavoidable separation. 

At the very end of the movie, Tai write in his thesis about Human and Digimon’s relationship that Agumon was like a part of himself.

In a way, Agumon symbolizes childhood, the carefree days we would spend as a kid, with our big dreams and hopes. When you grow up, you tend to forget those simple emotions because you get swallowed into the stress of studies, figuring out your carreer, your life path. Just like us, Tai forgot this part of himself. In the madness of growing up, he lost Agumon. 

However, it’s not the end. He will pick himself back up. He will move forward in life despite his worries and incertainities, and he will find himself again. Therefore, he will find Agumon again. The kids in the illustration are waving goodbye, but it’s not goodbye, it’s a see you later.  In the meantime, Tai is holding on to these precious memories, until they meet again.

Mmmmm. Okay. So I just finished the movie. I’m fatigued as always so this’ll be a bit of a mess lol. Gotta spew the thoughts while they’re still fresh, y’all know how it is.

Right out the gate, I definitely want to talk about the things I loved.

The animation was, of course, phenomenal and gorgeous!

Voice acting was incredible as always

Nari in Douxie’s body is the most precious, chaotic, and wholesome thing like holy cow that was so adorable LOOKIT DOUXIE CROUCHING AND CRAWLING AROUND ON ALL FOURS WITH THOSE NOODLE LIMBS OF HIS I CAN’T --

We called Nari’s mind control and Douxie trying to reason with her!

In the very few scenes they were together, Douxie’s love and affection for Nari really came through. You could really feel how much he cared about her. ALSO THAT TENDER HUG AND NARI’S LITTLE HAPPY SQUEAK MY HEART NO--

We saw a hint of mercy in Bellroc towards the end.

Toby’s death... That was a huge curveball. Jim might as well have cut my heart out with Excaliber as he sobbed over his best friend.

Uh.....um....and.....Er...what else........ .___.

..........Alright so.......It’s about to get a bit brutal from here on out as I talk about the things I didn’t like at all. And the really sad thing is, at least to me, the cons far outweigh the pros in this movie. Because I’m actually having difficulty picking out things I enjoyed, they were so few and far between...which really sucks.

So here we go.

Gosh, where to begin... I guess I’ll go ahead and say this : I’m really disappointed. 

Like as I’m here typing this, I’m just thinking, “...That was it? That was the movie?? The big finale???”

So much of this movie just felt....unnecessary. I hate to say almost like filler. The entire intro re-caping the series really wasn’t needed. And then Toby went and restated it all again when he was being interrogated. The pacing, oh my gosh...Guys, the pacing in this movie was not good. The action started and it never seemed to stop. There wasn’t a single moment of rest, of levity, of our characters just being themselves, getting to know each other, being friends outside of the battle. No Reckless Club Segment. No fun, just... I mean Claire and Aja didn’t speak to each other at all. Douxie and Toby hardly interacted. Steve was turned into a gross male pregnancy joke. Jim and Krel barely spoke. Douxie and Aja had nothing to say to each other. Even Aja and Krel didn’t have any moments together. The list goes on. The whole movie was just go, go, go. And it’s so frustrating because there was time for it but it was poorly executed.

Like was the whole break-in to the Chinese Trollmarket really necessary?? Guys, I really found myself not caring. I didn’t care to see this random side quest involving an insignificant new troll character and a Trollmarket that had little to no bearing on the plot. Did I love seeing Charlie, Archie, Blinky, and Claire? Of course! But these scenes were so pointless. So needless. They could’ve written other ways for all our heroes to go after the chronosphere (Maybe we could’ve had Zoe for crying out loud). But instead this vital artifact was the hands of a character we don’t know and don’t care about in a place that turned out to have basically nothing to do with anything.

Deaths. The deaths in this movie. Because of the pacing in this movie, there wasn’t nearly enough time for the emotional impacts to sink in. Nomura? Gone and the only ones mourning her are Aaarrgh and Douxie, who barely knew her. Walter’s death was handled better since we got to see Jim and Barbara actually having a moment to mourn him. The weight of Nari’s death was singlehandedly carried by Douxie, but even that was over before it started. The immense gravity of Toby’s death, which really got to me, was also short-lived to make way for an ending that...I don’t know. 

ALSO DOUXIE JUST??? BEING OKAY WITH HIS FAMILIAR, THE ONE WHO RAISED HIM AND WENT THROUGH SO MUCH WITH HIM FOR CENTURIES, LEAVING HIM FOREVER TO BE TRAPPED IN THAT DUMB TROLLMARKET WITH CHARLIE LIKE???

“I hope he’s happy.”

WHAT. THE. EVERLASTING. FRICK. 

Douxie’s reaction objectively doesn’t make a shred of sense. Geez, it’s almost like Douxie was expecting Archie to up and leave him someday to be with Charlegmane. Just...what???

What also frustrates me so much is how this movie undid so much characterization and development that happened in Wizards. Or more like all that development didn’t even matter.

What was the point of Steve’s arc in Wizards if he was just going to be reduced to...this?

I was so excited to see Douxie really being a Master Wizard. To see him lead the Guardians of Arcadia alongside Jim. To see him in action as Successor to Merlin and Protector of this Realm.

But no.

Douxie, who had such an incredible arc in Wizards and a character who’s come to mean so much to me in my life, was nerfed and sidelined.

And then time restarts and I can’t help but wonder why any of this mattered at all. What the heck was the freaking point of the suffering, the loss, the pain, the growth, enduring and overcoming so much, the friendships and family spanning across three shows... All gone. Starting all over. Undoing everything, except what Jim went through. As much as I love Jim, I didn’t think he’d be the only character I’d be getting closure for at the grand finale of this entire franchise. But that’s what happened and I really hate it.

Just...all in all, this movie wasn’t satisfying. Not to me. It had its good moments. But not nearly enough. The comedy was misplaced and fell flat. The climax was sorely anticlimactic and didn’t hold a candle to Eternal Knight. The writing, the direction, characterization...For some reason it was all lost and confused and none of it felt right and so much didn’t make sense.

I’m not at all upset with the writers, though, because they still pulled through and did what they could. When the movie did something right, it was beautiful. The things I loved about it I truly adored. No, I’m not upset in the least bit with any of the creative team.

I’m upset with Netflix. I’m upset that Wizards was robbed of the seasons it should’ve had. I’m upset with big cooperations stifling creators. I’m upset that this’ll be it. This is the ending we got and nothing can be done about it.

Aaron did say there’s every possibility for the franchise to continue in some capacity, and I’m hoping for that someday. Because so much, too much, has been left unanswered. So much left to be explored that couldn’t. But until then....I guess this is it. This is what we get.

Now, I want to remind everyone that this is my own personal experience with the movie. These are all my opinions. If you enjoyed every second the movie, that’s wonderful! And who knows how my thoughts will change upon another viewing. But in the meantime, Rise of the Titans really missed the mark for me. I wanted found family badassery and fluff. But nope. Just fighting and heaviness and no payoff. It’s such a letdown...a real shame. 

But yeah...Thanks to any and everyone who read to the end of this haha

I still love Tales of Arcadia. It’s a series that has blessed and inspired me so much as an artist, writer, and as a person in general. I do want to keep making ToA content for a while. Cause this movie isn’t the end. Not my ending, at least.

I’ll continue to hope for more Tales of Arcadia in the future (a Douxie spin-off series please Lord pleaaase). We shall see. Until then, fics and fanart fixing this mess galore haha

I have way too many favorites to list here so I'll just list a couple of them here lol

Friday Night Corruption - Blame the fan content for this. I already liked the mod on its own, but it was thanks to the amazing fanarts and interpretations from others that this became one of my favorites.

Now, with that said, while it's still a favorite, I much rather prefer this one interpretation of the Corruption where it doesn't control its host pre-se but rather does a More Than Mind Control sorta thing as well as amplifies certain emotions if that makes any sense.

FNF Hypno's Lullaby - I also say blame the fan content for this too. I adored the mod when it first came out, but it wasn't until the fan content on it that it grew to become one of my favorites. I especially love that one Mount Silver mod that came out shortly after.

I also like the second update, though I shall pretend what was said about BF, GF, and Pico being dead isn't true because fuck you that's why. /lh

ArrowFunk - Tbh I don't really have any real reason for why I like this mod except that I really like the designs for BF, GF, and Pico or Bidu, Barbara, and Dono as they're called. Especially Dono's design there. Like seriously, he's really nice, handsome, and asjksjksdakj. I do really like the music as well as the designs of the other members of the cast- but it's the designs of the trio there, especially Dono, that caught my attention the most lol. Oh, and fun fact here, but my OC Zephyr's design is partially inspired by Dono's design.

B3 Mod - Tbh I don't have any real reason here except that I really like how the trio looks as well as their personalities. I do really like the mods' take on the other characters too tho! Also really like the music too!

Neo Mod - Once again, don't really have any real reason for why I like this mode except except that I really liked the trio's designs as well as the other characters' designs. That said, also like the music and where it's going so far with its story. Though I will say that I was not expecting Lemon Demon to actually be BF's dad in this mod, like, seriously, what the heck who fucked the lemon monster asjksdajksa

FNF DJX - Once again, don't have any real reason for why I like this except that I really like its BF's and GF's designs. I've only heard a bit of the music but I do really like it too!

FNF MIX - Again, don't have any real reason here except that I like the designs of the trio as well as the rest of the cast. Only heard a bit of its music but what I've heard so far is really good!

Sour Mod - Again, no real reason for why I like this except that I really like the designs of the trio (especially Sour Pico) and other characters. I also really like its music too.

HEY CARMEN AND JULIA STANS MAKE SOME MORE NOISE

1) julia (from our server) wants to know if the interactive timeline is canon?

Hi again! 1) happy to answer for everyone. I don't consider it "canon" as far as our continuity/timeline go (though please don't misconstrue that as a negative -- I love the IA special, it's so much fun! But we approached it as a "what if" type episode, so we could take full advantage of the format and do fantasy sequences, musical numbers etc...)

1, continued: Here is my reasoning. a) with the various forks, there's no way any one thread could be canon -- how would we know? b) we did Vile "brain wiping" here in the style of fun horror movie endings; we of course revisited the idea more dramatically at end of S4. c) note that Shadowsan & Chase are absent from the storyline! We were producing the IA special parallel with S2, and had no idea whether Netflix would premiere it between S1 & S2, or after S2. SS & Chase are the two characters who had major spoilers attached (SS from bad to good; Chase unconscious in the hospital). So we removed them to avoid any timeline bumps in the event Netflix chose to premiere it after S1. In retrospect, it would have been fun to add SS & Chase to the Rockapella song, but since they weren't in the story earlier it seemed odd. We went back and forth on that. One down, 4 to go!

2) in general- does carmen ever find out that julia is the one who found her mother? julia played such a large part in helping to resolve carmen’s story, so we wanted to know if carmen knew that she did that for her?

great observation! I absolutely think Carmen knows: it's suggested in the hospital scene that Chief is in touch with Carmen ("shall I pass along your info?"). To have explained that Carmen knows Gray's okay, or that Julia is the one who found her mother, would have been great; but a) would have slowed the pace of our multiple epilogues so we figured the audience knows both those things so can construe that Carmen does (or will eventually ;-). b) except for the Pilot, we were limited to 22 minutes per episode precisely. We made the exception for the finale which is 2 minutes longer to get everything in. It's a balancing act to keep things tight but also let moments breathe. I'm sure you'll agree that we pack a LOT into each episode! There wasn't room for more in 408, but also I think it would have dragged the pacing to add more talk to the wrap up scenes.

3) nina wants to make carmen fanart stickers and put them on redbubble- is there a copyright policy against that? is she allowed to do so?

Hi Nina! I am not sure about that, it's outside my area: I can ask the "powers that be" if you would like? But be forewarned they may just say no because it's less complicated that way. My own common sense tells me that if you were making stickers of our copyrighted images from the show, that would be a problem. But stickers of your own art maybe not? But I really can't answer with certainty.

4) how did carmen end up trusting julia again after stockholm? the look of betrayal at the end kind of made it seem that it would take some reconciliation, but carmen seemed fine in season 3. we all have our own theories, but do you have any opinions on it?

reading this question scared me and I had to check the episode again! Phew. Carmen feeling betrayed by Julia was not the intention here at the end (in the beginning when ACME storms in, of course) -- but I think Carmen's been through too much to hold this against Julia. Carmen DOES shoot Chief some very poisonous glares through this sequence, but when she finally looks at Julia I think she's just weak. The pained look on J's face is so heartbreaking! But now that you point this out, it might have been a good idea to end the scene on Carmen softening toward J or simply looking vulnerable, rather than on J's heartbreak. I do think J is just feeling horrible seeing her hero in such a fallen state, rather than reacting to Carmen's glare. I think this moment is such a big reason why J resigns in S3: she can't bear to do something like this to Carmen again.

5) you mentioned something about julia being captivated (?) by carmen as well, but it kept cutting out so all we caught was the word “captivated” 🤣 do you mind expanding on that?

I think I noted that Julia was clearly captivated by Carmen -- on the train of course, as their conversation continues. Though really I think J's just happy to be talking to someone who takes an interest in history and culture unlike Chase (though ironically Carmen is of course kind of "using" Julia here to scout for Paperstar -- a lot of layers LOL, but this is the beginning of J and Carmen working together without literally working together. Which to me makes them super-connected and relating on heightened intuition). But then I also said that Julia was clearly captivated by Carmen the very first time she saw her hang-gliding away in Poitiers ;-)

I love these characters as much as you do and hope we get the opportunity to expand Carmen's world and continue the ongoing story of everyone involved. But if we don't, I think it's a perfect series as is, that will stand the test of time. Fingers crossed and keep putting positive vibes out there. To be honest, I want to give you a piece of advice (and know I mean this in the most loving way) but...let your friend ship them lol. After all, it's what fandom is about, no? I personally don't like trying to convince anyone of anything when it comes to shipping. I legitimately don't give a rat's ass if you ship what I ship or not just don't be mean lol!!!!! There's nothing wrong with her shipping the ship that shall not be named even though I hate that ship with a burning passion.

My issue has never been so deeply with the ship itself (like yeah, they had their moments here and there and prior to Azriel's POV I can see why people liked it) but I did not like it regardless because to me, Elucien just always made more sense. And I don't like a ship that has to be at the expense of another character. My issue is certain shippers that just forget canon and decide they are correct and nothing else matters lmao.

However, I do not like to shove my ship down anyone's throat. I’m just very clear about who I ship and what I don't lol.

She hasn't read ACOFAS (which will give her fuel lol even though I personally have always read it as Elain being a cheeky friend elain, azriel, and lucien could've had such a great friendship but that was ruined and i'm still bitter about it.) and especially when she reads ACOSF and his bonus POV, she might no longer like them? I know a lot of shippers jumped ship after Gwyn came into the picture. Azriel being super gross about his thought process regarding Elain in his POV also made people uncomfortable enough to stop shipping. Said it once and I'll say it again, there was nothing romantic about the way he was thinking about her in his POV but whateverrrrrrrr. I say...when she reads ACOSF, she will end up changing her mind on her own because the potential of Gwynriel (plus Azriel's being disgusting in his POV) has changed a lot of minds haha.

Let her ship it and discover Elucien goodness for herself! It's more fun that way to suddenly be hit on the head with feels for an unexpected ship haha. As long as she doesn't become an asshole shipping that ship like some people end up being, I say ship and let ship. You can casually share elucien fanart and fanfics to her and be like look!!! cute stuff!!! 🤣 My blog is a plethora of elucien content girl! send her here haha! I'm afraid I cannot tell you how to find things on this hellsite; not even the Old Hellsite Gods know that. I can however do my best to explain the tags I use for this small, specific circle of hell(site). (And no worries, as shall be immediately demonstrated, I can and will ramble even about tags.)

I never intended for the tags here to be anything but a help to find things myself, so I'm not sure how useful you'll find them? A very common but useless for anyone but me tag for example is "my posts and additions". It used to be two tags, one for posts where I was the op and one for things I added to someone else's post, but as most of the posts I make are meta discussion stuff, the whole point is that people add to them and you can bounce thoughts back and forth, so it became that catch both versions thing. But it really only exists so I can find my own posts for personal reference and stuff; why would anyone else want to specifically find my ramblings? Another useless tag is "good omens"... This is my Good Omens sideblog, so almost everything here is Good Omens.

Okay. So. Common and/or actually useful tags. (How to tag search note: you can find tagged posts by entering the tag into the URL bar of your browser behind a blog's address. Replace all spaces with a dash. So searching for "good omens" on my blog will become "https://on-stardust-wings.tumblr.com/tagged/good-omens". Character Tags are usually a character's full name (so "Newton Pulsifer" instead of "Newt"). For filtering, these are useful if you're looking for stuff including one of the less common characters, but as so many posts are tagged "Aziraphale" and "Crowley", usefulness for filtering of those two character tags is debatable. But I do use them consistently, so knock yourself out finding an endless list of Crowley posts.

Topic Tags filter for something specific, like scenes, events, settings or themes.

These include the Through the Ages Tags: "Eden", "the Fall", "1941", "1967", "1862", "the Bastille", "the Flood", "the Crucifixion", "41 AD" (might be sometimes tagged as "41 A.D." or simply as "Rome"), "Wessex", "the Globe" and "2007".

Events I know I have tagged would be "the Body Swap", "the Bandstand" and "the Bookshop Fire". Try "lol" or "OMG I'm wheezing" for funny things, and "oops it's sad" for posts that happened to catch the angst and depression train.

As they tend to be hard to find, posts with Book!Omens content of any kind are tagged "book omens".

I also have a tag for "wings", because wings are epic. Searching by that will give you lots of cool artwork with beautiful and fluffy angel and demon wings, plus a handful of meta discussion and fic.

Some non-Good Omens tags that sometimes come up are "fanfiction", "writing" (and variances and combinations thereof), "queer" and "ace stuff". But very few things here aren't Good Omens.
