So I have the news read to me via Alexa as part of my morning alarm and uhm, recognizing the name in a death anouncement, but not being able to place it immediately at 5 am and slowly realizing that "Liam Payne, 31, singer, famous from casting show" meant One Directions Liam, is quite an eerie feeling? Have never shot up that straight in the morning before. I have never been a boy group girlie in my life, but have known 1D existed. They were on the opposite side of posters I hung on my wall as a teen...

Over the last years I have only heard about Liam on commentary videos I listen to while I clean and not heard anything favourably, but he was only 31. He had not even lived half of his lifespan yet. There was time for him to change and grow as a person, so much time and now that potential of a future is gone. I like to believe that people can, want to and will improve with time and will. Even for someone largely unfamiliar with 1D, this has left me feeling kind of uneasy (?) and eerily quiet (?) the entire day.

On another note: I have seen too many pictures related to death, dying and gore on twitter lately and am probably finally deleting my account there. I have just used it for game updates and viewing trending hashtags, but the new video preview thing on the trending tab has shown me porn and actual gore unprompted and I was not expecting that. And then seeing what I am going to call the TMZ picture today and maybe catching glimpses of actual video material of the incident, whether fake or not, is giving me the rest. It can't be good for anyones mental wellbeing to see that kind of stuff. And I think it is deplorable for any living, breathing, human being to post this kind of stuff easily accessible online. I would hope to have to search for that stuff explicitly before coming across it.

I wanted to make a proper post about this so here I goooo

If you follow me, you’ll know that I absolutely adore Douxie. He’s darn near everything I could ever love about a character. Heck, about a person. I mean he’s a cool goth-punk rocker who’s kind-hearted, who’s passionate about doing the right thing, who looks out for others, steadfast in his values, is a helpless goofball bean of a moppet, etc, etc. As I’ve said before, Douxie’s character truly revitalized the artist and writer in me. Easily one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. Aaahhh I could go on and on about how much Douxie has inspired me.

*big sigh* And so....

Last year, as I sat in the aftermath of RoTT and lamented the unfair shortness of Wizards, I started imagining the idea of a Douxie spin-off series. I brainstormed that it could be called Hisirdoux: Tales of Arcadia or even just Hisirdoux and be all about Douxie’s life before the events of the main series or what he was up to in specific episodes of Trollhunters and 3Below, some kind of follow-up from RoTT (memories and Master Wizardness restored, of course), or all of the above! (And of course more Zoe!)

.....Yeah, it’s probably not gonna happen :’) Which, y’know, is okay and I have accepted it lol

BUT THEN

It’s a few months old but I only recently stumbled upon Aaron’s tweet:

Funny thing, I actually saw someone ask Aaron about the possibility of a spin-off (couldn’t find the tweet, sadly) and I remember him replying that, as much as he’d love that, it wasn’t his call to make.

Ahem. 

Anywho, this most likely doesn’t mean anything, just a CRUEL playful comment in response to a ToA fan (btw it is really awesome that Aaron still engages with the fandom from time to time ^^). It’s more than likely that Douxie will forever be a small, sweet treasure. And ya know what? That’s perfectly fine. Yeah, his series was done kinda dirty but boy did that lad still shine. I mean an entire zine was made just for him. So many people adore Douxie, and it’s clear as daylight as to why. He’s not just a cool character. He’s an example. We may have only had him for 10 episodes, but the inspiration, the impact, carries on. So yeah...Aaron’s tweet is probably just a teasing throwaway.

A lot of the southern American dream is the desire to live in a house surrounded by nature and away from prying eyes. Seeing the big fauna is like a happy experience where you get to appreciate living in nature!

Yeah it can be dangerous. They typically have firearms if they live in 'the country' (slang for rural usa) to protect from bears, bucks, cougars, whatever. But they like it like that. They like sitting on their porch listening to nature and talking on the landlines because they don't get signal

Put those rednecks in Africa and they'd probably complain about hyenas in the chicken pins and make loud noises to scare the lions away

Tangentially related, my husband has informed me there is a program that controls the population of bears and puts bears that get a taste of human food and stuff in captivity, encouraging the skiddish bears to stay in the forest away from people! So that's a cool and modern way of handling bears, at least

Nanami Kento: Yamanote Line

Normally I try to keep it to road types but I'm counting this since it's a public transportation (and also I love this line). The Yamanote Line is a train line in central Tokyo (here's a cool video that includes a bit about it) that functions in a very practical loop. In subway maps it's always drawn as a perfect circle which I think hearkens to Nanami's 5:30 quirk and watch fairly well. It also has a stop at Shibuya

This is something that’s been bothering me since I started playing mystic messenger and well I personally haven’t seen anyone discuss it.

For reference this is mainly about the Another Story and V Route timeline but it still applies to other timelines since it’s prevalent in the entire game.

Yoosung’s behavior towards Jihyun is made even more horrid considering how he admits multiple times that he doesn’t know much about Rika and V’s relationship and even Jihyun himself.

Whenever you ask him about their relationship or Rika and Jihyun as individuals, he just states that Rika was a happy person, Rika seemed happy with V, and that he doesn’t know much about Jihyun.

Despite this he’s so adamant about blaming Jihyun and suspecting him, so adamant about Rika not having mental health problems and not being “the kind of person to take her own life”.

He didn’t even know about Rika’s family and when he spoke to them himself and learned what they’re like and their thoughts on Rika. He still pulled the “V did way worse to Rika than her parents did”.

He’s speaking on a man and woman and their relationship despite not knowing much. They clearly wanted to keep certain things private and yet Yoosung does not respect or care to understand that.

And then Yoosung gets pissed when the other members step in and call him out for this shit or exclude him from certain things (e.i going to V’s house, going to rescue V and MC from Mint Eye, going to Rika’s apartment).

Saeyoung and Jumin were close to both of them and even they knew better than to cross obvious boundaries, antagonize, and harass someone whose behavior all points to a result of grieving.

There’s a clear lack of understanding of grief, mental health, and mental illness that Yoosung shows and doesn’t seem to really care to unpack which is extremely upsetting to see when you’ve been suicidal and/or lost a loved one and are grieving. Grief lives with you forever and you have to handle it in a healthy way. Yoosung doesn’t do that either.

Gojo is failing his own class

Sukuna, Megumis shikigami, Rika, and Slaughter Demon all have their own accounts, despite being.. them (they also need an education ig)

The fact Yuji is “execution” despite Sukuna NOT having that, implies that Yuji is so bad at this class, he’s getting executed.

Megumi summons Mahoraga for class, and is actually trying, considering that it doesn’t have the worst score. Same is true for: Sukuna, all the Shikigami, and Slaughter Demon.

Slaughter Demon is the ONLY weapon (that Maki uses) with an account. And it’s doing better than some others.

Rika has the (second) lowest score, but Yuta has the highest, implying Yuta does not allow Rika to cheat off of him

Yuta, the one who wasn’t in class (given the 1st years also have accounts) has the highest score, which is 1, which is also considered failing. But it’s over 200 points better than everyone else

Rereading twin cannons has made me wonder how vengeful spirits are regarded in twinsverse vs canonverse. More specifically, how it affects how Rika is viewed. In canon her passing on is seen as ‘freeing’ her, which implies that life as a cursed spirit is not worth living.

However, Twins!Suguru seems to be horrified that she’s gone. Given that she and Yuuta in twinsverse seem to be planning on living a full life together, does that mean that he views the passing of canon Rika more like her dying instead of being freed?

Sorry if I’m explaining this weirdly, but just how is life as a vengeful spirit viewed in canonverse vs twinsverse?

So, vengeful spirits!

In canon, there are two main examples of vengeful spirits that we see: Orimoto Rika, and Zenin Naoya. Both of whom retain some semblance of their self and personage as cursed spirits following their deaths. They're both presented as warped versions of themselves, more 'monstrous curse' than 'human' after the transformation, and that would be how most people view vengeful spirits. In the eyes of sorcerers, vengeful spirits are distorted curses, horrifying caricatures of the people they used to be. Exorcising them is the only way to free their spirits and allow them to achieve peace and move on.

And then along comes Shiki. Who's a cursed spirit, but also retains a human ego to a shocking degree even despite being a curse. That's unprecedented. Because we see that as curses, vengeful spirits are prone to destruction and madness, malice and obsession. Obsessions or strong feelings that they had during life carry over to define their existence as curses: Rika attaches herself to Yuta, Naoya single-mindedly hunts down Maki in the Culling Games.

Cursed spirit Shiki might have a few screws loose, but she is not defined by obsession. If anything, it's her love for her brother that defines her, and in this case it makes all the difference.

What happens in Twins-verse is that Sato-Shiki help Rika regain her human ego as a cursed spirit. Without the obsessive madness and desire for destruction definitive of a cursed spirit clouding her mind, Rika and Yuta talk things through with each other and end up settling on a partnership for 'the remainder of Yuta's lifetime,' instead of having Rika move on ahead of him.

Suguru's horror towards seeing Rika in canon-verse is due to the fact that it's not Rika.

In canon, we know that Rika's soul moved on during the events of JJK0, and later on we find out that the Rika that we see in JJK canon timeline is not 'Orimoto Rika,' but instead something that's more akin to a shikigami that the original Rika left behind for Yuta after she passed on.

In chapter 178, we see "Rika" described as "An external storage of cursed techniques and cursed energy that Orimoto Rika left for Okkotsu after she was released."

In terms of the Twin Cannons AU, this means that Suguru sees Okkotsu Yuta standing with an empty construct that's only a facsimile of Rika and not Rika, so of course he's very startled and alarmed by what he sees. What happened to Rika in this world?
