oh this is gonna be so hard considering he has no name (and i will never give him one). this is a huge ramble www under the cut it goes

okay first of all: his reflection is kai-shirr. that boy is his spitting image, except tarts dad was older and had pale blue hair and eyes, hahah. that first time tart saw him on the kholusian coast felt like being gutted with deja vu. he was born in ilsabard, maybe around corvos, in a village of mixed miqo'te tribes. hes from a big family w many siblings and half-siblings. the second oldest and strongest of the boys, all set to be warriors who will defend their home from garlemald. he took good care of his little siblings as a kid, then started to take up mercenary work really young to help provide for the family. or well. actually it was to gain his fathers approval. bc his old man really, really hated that his son was gay. he kept trying to do more, be more famous and achieve impressive things, bring in more money, its no use. there was a limit to what a guy could do in backwater ilsabard. so he went okay! ill go be famous in eorzea and then youll see, pops!! so off he went, bumping into a young viera in the woods and becoming fast friends w him, then the two joined the wol and her elezen partner as a party of adventurers in ul'dah. and they got a full party later on and became friends forever (citation needed)! yay!!

he was always the moodmaker of the group. the guy who kept everyone lighthearted and motivated. though more like the big brother or nice senpai than a class clown. unfortunately unlike at home hes like the youngest in the party so it was pretty silly seeing him give pep talks to the other guys visibly older than him wwww. hes also the kind of guy to instantly jump into a situation whenever one came up like "no worries ill handle this one! oh god oh fuck–" well he always managed somehow. despite being impulsive and kinda dumb miss wol trusted him the most to handle situations w her and be her cotank hehehehe. hes also a crazy workaholic. like you wouldnt think so bc hes very sociable too but his days were like 50% work 40% shooting the shit w everyone in town 10% everything else. he thinks life can only get better when you achieve more!!! insane achievement hunter mindset going on here. theres always something to improve at everyday, or else something new to learn. he could not sit still and never spent more than 2 seconds at home. which you can imagine was pretty sad for tart. haha. but he was also a very positive and caring person, always looking for what he can compliment out of any and all situations. its so out of pocket too sometimes, but no matter, the important part is staying positive!

if that sounds like toxic positivity, ohhh yeah lmao this guy was. he certainly was. he would never, everrrr show anyone his negative or vulnerable side. hes the guy whos supposed to cheer everyone up! it wont do to have him bummed out! well he would never admonish anyone else for having issues, but himself, most definitely. if he had problems he would stop at nothing to solve them. if theyre unsolvable he would stop at nothing to do anything else that would count as an achievement to make himself feel better. oh yeah man this is totally never gonna backfire horribly and ruin the family you built with your own hands (citation needed)

the anthropomorphization of unpleasant from this fandom has genuinely WRECKED its character and made it. not that unique compared to the other npcs. like i dont know it being this like fucking gooner-type character is so awful? and i really hate it? if anything that trope given to unpleasant should have stayed with scag and ended with her, since she’s a genuine npc with more writing and thoughts attached

i saw people bring up this point again and im glad but HELLO!!!!! LETS STOP JUST ASSOCIATING LAMPERT AS WALLTER AND MARK'S SON? EVEN WHEN IT HAS BEEN DISCREDITED /MULTIPLE/ TIMES? like DAMN this fandom only attributes characteristics if it is attached to literally anyone else besides that person. its horrible. people NEED to learn to find the balance between having fun with that headcanon while also acknowledging lampert as his own separate person that is (to be quite frank) not even associated with them that much in canon

the regretevator fandom is EXACTLY like the phighting fandom with how shipping is handled. i mean this in not a positive way

people gotta stop relying on the wiki for information man. so much lore from yeucc's tumblr has been retconned and at this point, when there's now WRITERS for the game that are actually keeping tabs, all if not the good majority of what is said on the wiki should be taken with a grain of salt. nowadays the lore is unpredictable, and only a select few (by few i mean like. 4 out of the 17 npcs) has had their lore expanded on significantly

general facts i think is fine so long as theres an annotation backing it but my point still stands . moreso with lore generally

also saw this point being brought up in the qrts but the demonization and infantilization of certain characterss (cough spud pilby pest and poob) is like. wild. i dunno i can't say much since i'm very fortunate enough to not have seen that much but my god is it prevalent from what people are saying

with pest especially since he has npd and aspd i do think that. people generally associating him as evil has NOT been the greatest thing, especially since it reduces him to a stigma of people with personality disorders which is horrific and terrifying. idk what goes on in the background but i feel like the fandom + yeucc & the people working on regretevator should have done more research on the disorders and consulted people who do have these issues better instead of using those labels haphazardly

another thing i will and always will be vocal (dog on) about the axosun team is them keeping gnarpy. like there was no reason to keep xem in other than for revenue gain let's be honest and True to ourselves. the philosophy "ohh but you can separate the art from the artist!!!!" i feel does not really apply to this scenario cause xe got a whole ass revamp despite the obvious fact that it STILL is gnarpy, a character created by a bad person regardless of the ownership change and discredited history. its the underlying thought that they were essentially built off a bad origin if this makes any sense. idk i think it wouldve been better for everyone if xe were just removed ENTIRELY from the game but. you do you i guess

highkey theres just too much to talk about in this game. so its gonna be a little all over the place but in short easily best written rgg game and my 2nd favorite overall. phenomenally good. absolutely in love.

ichiban as protag is a breath of fresh air that this series. incredibly desperately needed. like profoundly so. like to some degree after 7 straight games of running around with kiryu you have to kind of want a break. which y6 attempted to give in the sense of almost completely dropping kamurocho entirely and barely doing anything with the recurring cast of the previous games but honestly it kind of felt sad and weirdly disjointed from the rest of the series as a result.

i unforutnately never got around to doing my y6 writeup in which i probably wouldve talked about it there but honestly i think wholesale dropping kiryu as the main protag is the better solution to this issue. but lets talk about the arakawa family soap

ok to be honest at first i was like really idgaf about ichiban & masato's relationship. but actually im rescinding that opinion and aggressively so its kind of bonkers crazy and im obsessed with it.?

one of the recurring issues ive kind of had with rgg that i havent really talked about but has bothered me is that a lot of the time the main characters dont really have a whole lot of narrative connection to the final boss. its kind of like well we're beating this guy up because hes in the way but most of the time the narrative foils are kind of tangential/shoehorned at best or if theyre not then theyre really not nearly as fleshed out/built up enough as they should be

however for ichiban and masato that is . NOT THE CASE. NOT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like because one of the things that i was. well we're getting partially off topic here but whatever anyways one of the things that i was initially hestiant about wrt ichiban being arakawa's bio kid was like the focus on blood ties when thats not really all that relevant to the themes of the game but actually im like actually kind of bonkers crazy about how they executed it. im bonkers crazy about everything honestly dude its so good

like the choice to keep it ambiguous that we dont actually know which baby was which is like DUDEEEEE its so good its sooooooo good actually hold on cuz i need to actually collect my thoughts about this.

honestly initially like i said before i was like Well this is kind of a weird decision……. when they started aggressively hinting that ichiban was arakawas bio son. i have changed my mind though im obsessed with this decision its actually crazy fascinating and shoots arakawa from a pretty interesting character to an absolutely fascinating one and im like well im CRAZY ABOUT ITTTTTTT

ultimately the most important thing here is the complete ambiguity on what arakawa knows and when

did he realize when he walked into that shed and saw ichibans face? because i dont think ichiban looks terribly similar to arakawa but we've never seen akane so its very possible he was the spitting image of her

^and if this is the case it would completely recontextualize him cutting off his pinkie for ichiban and spending the next several years fending him off from joining the arakawa family until it is clear that he has straight up nowhere else to go

additionally if he knows from this early on it also completely recontextualizes him always putting ichiban with masato because before clearly it was to give them someone their own age to hang out with but if he knows that ichi is his bio son this is pretty clearly an attempt to set up a sort of brotherly relationship

and of course. most importantly. this makes the decision to axe ichi for masatos mistake REALLY INSANELY FASCINATING.

because i feel like in a lot of works where theres an adopted child and a bio child the bio child INSTANTLY becomes the favorite the moment its revealed and its well frankly a little stupid. but in this case arakawa lies to his bio son to get him to go to prison for fifteen years to make up for his adopted sons screw up

not to even mention its even more fascinating with the relationships that he has with both of them anyways because masato and arakawa's relationship has always been strained but ichi loves him so much he would do anything for him, a decade and a half in prison be damned - like you have to imagine when ichiban agreed so readily the guilt ate away at arakawa so so so bad. duuuuuuude

^^^^^And of course this is all assuming that ichi even IS his bio kid or that he is extremely confident in the fact. because its also very possible that arakawa just straight up doesnt know or isnt sure. duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude

NOT TO EVEN MENTION ARAKAWA SHOOTING ICHIBAN? like ichiban was saying arakawa knew he would survive but nanba literally says a milimeter in any direction and ichi wouldve been dead in a ditch. there was a snowballs chance in hell of him surviving but. well

but seriously the likelihood of ichiban living through this was basically zilch, and the bio son maybe reveal makes everything arakawa does with about or around ichiban absolutely like fascinating beyond all words and comprehension. WHATS HIS PROBLEM?

additionally im also crazy crazy happy about the choice on the writers part to keep it ambiguous like nanba suggests getting a dna test and ichi says he doesnt need it because hes got his two dads and thats all he ever needed

one last thing but also genuinely the arakawa/ichiban parallels of them both carrying masato from the coin lockers to the hospital seriously makes me want to start like attacking people in the streets like that was just sick and twisted. masatos "every single goddamn thing about you is just like my fucking dad" IM GONNA KILL MYSELF?

honestly one of the things i was bracing for was for when ichiban was telling masato that he and arakawa and sawashiro loved him so so much i was waiting for the justification of like "im arakawa's bio son so that basically makes us brothers" or whatever which highkey wouldve been stupid but THEY DIDNTTT!!!!!!!!!!

ichiban says there IS no logic there IS no justification. there just isnt for love and thats what gives it the strength it has. their love of masato is completely unconditional its not based on something tangible that can be taken away or disproven and despite everything he did and everything he put them through they still loved him to the very end.

additionally ichiban knowing about the very likely possibility that he is arakawa's son and that arakawa knew this is also SOOOOOOOO INTERESTING because obviously he was jealous of masato and realistically had always wished that he was born into masatos position and basically says as much himself during the climax but not once does he ever seen to actually resent masato for functionally taking away what was probably his, nor does he resent arakawa for using him as a sacrificial pawn for masato either.

which is also fascinating because you know that if it had been the other way around masato would NOT be the same. actually lets just take this opportunity to talk about ichiban and masato as narrative foils

like. from the start theyre set up as parallels born on the same day hidden in coin lockers right next to each other (<-WHICH IS LEGITIMATELY CRAZY BONKERS INSANE IM GONNA BE SICK

but like ichiban says theyre like night and day. masato had all the money and connections in the world and ichiban grew up dirt poor in a soapland. masato pushed everyone away whereas ichi makes friends wherever he goes. masato gets completely caught up in proving the people around him wrong and rising above everyone else whereas ichiban forgives and/or moves on and never loses sight of the people around him. masato believes that people are to be used and thrown away the moment they become an inconvenience and ichiban knows that sometimes other peoples goals will not align with his own but theyre still his friends and he will care about and love them until the day he dies. and more importantly it is this fact that sets them so profoundly apart more than any other

like becuase when the nanba storyline was going on i was like well this is fine i guess its interesting (and also im still highkey not over that hug that was so cute) But also well did we really need all this… mostly because the thing with his brother never really cropped back up again and very frequently in yakuza games they will just insert storylines that arent super relevant to the main plot just to stretch out the time, but no because its actually a direct parallel to what happens with arakawa and masato.

in both situations someone who ichiban and masato believed to be on their side actually turned out to have alternate goals the entire time. ichiban reacts with kindness and even though he fights against nanba because nanba is decidedly getting in the way of where he needs to go, he always and forever reaches out his hand and would be willing to give him a thousand chances because he loves nanba and he cares about nanba because nanba is his friend. masato, however, retaliates with violence and anger and just like how he treats everyone else in his life immediately seeks to end arakawas life for stepping out of line. there is no discussion there is no mercy and there are no second chances, because just like everything else in life masato only sees things in extremes.

^which is of course why his whole organization is bleach japan and why kume kills him in the end and his false dichotomy obsession but we'll talk about that all that later.

and this same parallel extends of course to their relationship with each other - ichiban continually tries to reach out and tries to get masato to reconsider to start over to end this madness thats ruining his life and the lives of everyone around him, and masato tries again and again to kill ichiban because he genuinely has no idea how else to resolve conflict at this point in his life. because he cant face anything with any amount of nuance and his victories have to be absolutely pristine he has no other route than to put ichiban down permanently.

in short im just kind of fascinated by masato's desperation for the approval and love and loyalty of the people around him and how because he is so profoundly shallow he believes everyone else to be the same and cuts them off violently the moment they step out of line and in the end is surrounded with nobody but himself, whereas ichiban has frankly never been particularly concerned about the worlds opinion of him and how this naturally draws people to him, and when they mess up or go in a different direction he is always there with an extended hand and because of this he has a tremendously loyal inner circle that carries him to victory.

on this note i really really love the kiryu and tendo battles because ichibans main skills are honestly kind of completely useless when fighting them - the player has to heavily rely on the skills of the other party members to take them down and i think its like a brilliant reflection of the narrative and main themes in terms of the importance of human relationships/community/support/etc.

and this crazy applies to the last battle against masato because his only real move is to call for backup, but because he's chased away and killed everyone strong who was loyal to him all he has are weak goons that maybe survive a single shot or two - whereas ichiban has always held everyone dear to him close and because of this has strong people who are loyal to him to the end.

but lets take a brief side tangent into masatos character for a minute

circling back to that point i made earlier about bleach japan and masatos issues. the entire organization's narrative purpose is to serve as a direct reflection of masato as a character - bleach japan claims to be on the side of righteousnessness and gives no room for any sort of nuance or ambiguity and steamrolls everything and everyone in its path, but in this very process lands squarely in the ambiguous area it claims it is trying to destroy.

the entire concept of "there are two sorts of people in this world" is basically always stupid and wrong because you will be very hard pressed to find a situation in which there is no nuance or grey area or any blur in the lines, but its the mentality that masato subscribes to anyways.

his inability to give others the benefit of the doubt or the grace of a second chance is ultimately what kills him in the end - bleach japans fanatic leader (who, might i remind you, masato himself deemed as easily replaceable, the latter in his "the irreplaceable and the easy to replace" false dichotomy) stabs him for betraying their ideals, an act which in and of itself is a violation of the laws that bleach japan claims to be upholding. frankly in the exact same way that masato claims that he is the man who will lead japan into an era of justice… while killing anyone who even marginally gets in his way.

additionally im honestly kind of obsessed with how completely and entirely self absorbed masato is. like he cant see anyone else outside of himself to the point where hes convinced that nobody could see or love him for who he really was when this is so blatantly and deeply untrue if he opened his eyes for literally half a second. because ichiban and sawashiro and arakawa loved him so so profoundly much

like i already said it but genuinely that scene at the coin locker. i think is the best scene in this entire series so far. like im gonna throw up levels of insanely good.

last thing but to be honest killing off masato was just mean. im gonna be honest i think it was just mean. like because the yakuza series seems to be profoundly allergic to letting people grow and change and become better versions of themselves but like in the case of mine and nishiki these were frankly suicides badly disguised as redemption by death. and to be honest like again his death serves an important narrative purpose but also it was MEAN it was MEANNNNNNN. it was mean.

^anyways this is exactly the sort of insane family soap opera i was looking for when i first got into yakuza. and i have finally gotten it. and it was brilliant. it was fascinating. it was glorious. i loved it.

MORE MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS: this will be significantly shorter.

dude i love the party chats. i love the party chats so much it makes me sick

they did a tremendously good job building up the main cast's friendship specifically with all the little details - one of the issues kind of consistently that ive had with yakuzas relationships (not that ive expressed much of this in my retrospectives but its been on my mind) is a lot of them have kind of pretty significant gaps that the audience is expected to fill in and a lot of the really important relationships in the series are built by implication rather than active on screen fleshing out. like we get no downtime with anybody to chill and let their natural personalities and dynamics emerge outside of The World Is Ending and i think the characters really suffer for it.

lad however finally takes a stab at fixing this through the party chats and the dinner discussions and all around even in the main plot letting the main characters goof around a bit and get into silly and wacky shenanigans together and does. frankly a phenomenal job. their dynamics feel very natural and well rounded and they all feel like real friends in a way that past games have struggled to achieve

additionally i personally REALLY wouldve liked to see some substories that included characters other than just ichiban interacting with the substory subject but i think im also just greedy because i love these characters and their relationships and i want to see more LOL

like honestly the main cast is so so profoundly good i love them all so much. the fact that they dont have party chats in infinite wealth is genuinely killing me thats actually so upsetting. whats the point of anything. whatever man

honestly the turn based combat took awhile to get used to but honestly the worst part about it was easily the fact that the dungeons literally are genuniely terrible and give awfully small amounts of exp for way higher amounts of effort, particularly in contrast with the sotenbori battle arena. like they shouldve had battle arenas instead of dungeons in ijincho and kamurocho. like to be honest i made half a run through the kamurocho dungeon and went ohhhh so this sucks and is stupid… and went back to sotenbori. also wouldve been nice to not have to grind for like 3-4 hours before the saemaji fight but whatever i got to listen to part of a video essay series one of my friends has been trying to get me to watch forever so i guess it worked out.

dude the saemaji fight was so good. dude it was so fun it was so cute im never gonna be over their combo move i should replay that fight because i literally need them back so much it makes me sick. so cute so ooo sooooo cute. prob my favorite fight in the entire series im gonna be honest i love them so much im gonna be ill

hello. earlier i made my game 'UNITRES Dreams' open source on github. i want to talk about it. click the little 'read more' thingy to read da rest of this post. i had a lot of things i wanted to say about it and why i think open sourcing games is kind of awesome Lol !!!

so. let me start off by saying that, although i was planning on releasing the source code for unitres for a long while, i was Not prepared to release it now. in fact, it kind of happened on accident.

in case you didnt know, earlier on twitter i was talking about how i wished there was a good way to release my archive of old builds for the game. i have a google drive full of old builds but i also i dont like using google drive. i sent a link to the drive in a reply to someones tweet, but there is one big thing i forgot: the game's project file is also in that drive.

anyways, instead of just deleting the reply or removing the file from the drive, i decided to just release the source code on github now, since i might as well. a part of me feels like i shouldnt have released it so suddenly... but also a part of me feels relieved.

you see, the unitres dreams source code is Bad. tons of messy code with almost no comments... a bunch of hackish solutions to tons of problems... everything is just incomprehensible unless youre me. considering ive been the only person working on the game for years, i understand most of the code and never needed to make comments (especially since making comments in construct 2 is Annoying).

my original plan for releasing the source code was to go back and clean everything up; improving tons of messy systems and adding comments explaining how everything worked. i also was planning on adding new content for a new update to the game aswell.. such as an options menu and maybe new levels and characters or something. i have Tried going back a few times to clean some little things up and work on a keybinding system... but i havent had the time to focus on it and do what ive wanted to do with it.

so, yeah. im kind of glad the source code is just Out now. it probably wouldve taken me Years just to do what i planned... and i think its best to just get it out now instead of just waiting years for something that might never happen, even if the source code right now is incredibly insane and unusable.

which leads me to something most people might be wondering: Why even release the source code in the first place? honestly, i doubt a lot of people will get use out of it, especially with the bad code and it being made in an old, dead engine that you cant even Buy anymore. but despite this... i think its good to release the source code for your games for a few reasons...

for one, its good for archival reasons. ive had a huge anxiety over losing all the source code for my games... its happened to me before and it really hurts. not only can you not use it in the future, but you lose a lot of work youve done, and for me ive lost a ton of games which were important to my journey as a game dev. nowadays, i try to hold onto all of my projects and have saved them to multiple computers and hard drives, but releasing them on stuff like github and google drive at least makes me feel a little better.. and hopefully with the unitres source code being public and the google drive for the old builds being out, it means that i wont have to worry about losing either of them.

another big reason is that, even if no one uses the source code for anything like mods or whatever, i think games having their source code out is good for learning game dev and understanding how games are made, even if the code is a big mess. even if i did get to go with my plan of cleaning up the source code... i feel like thatd be kind of dishonest, cus Most games Never have perfect code when theyre made. its good if you use the most messy code in existence just to get the game done... you can't always spend forever perfecting something, and at the end of the day the game eventually has to come out at some point. even big triple A projects will have weird code in some places... thats just a fact of life. i think having the source code out lets people see the kinds of crazy stuff that goes into a game, and maybe seeing my crazy code will influence others to do things a lot better in their own things. that's what i think, anyways.

and hey, even if My game never gets any sort of modding community, that doesnt mean Your game wont. there are a lot of communities out there who make some crazy things with mods.. and things such as open source games or decompilations can lead to some incredible stuff. with decompilations, youve got things such as mario 64 or the retro engine sonic games being ported to pretty much Everything, and then youve got open source games like Doom and friday night funkin which are being pretty much kept alive Because theyre open source and have a huge modding community. even if a game never gets as much interest as those.. it doesnt mean it never will, and having a game be open source can help a community grow so much more.

anyways umm yea. i think making games open source is awesome. there is a little part of me that feels weird about making unitres dreams specifically open source and the possibility that people might make fangames and mods out of it, as its something thats really personal to me (especially since the main character is named after me), but if people do make fangames and stuff with it i dont think ill mind, especially since a lot of my early work was fan games and unitres dreams takes a lot of inspiration from the media i love. all that i ask is that people include the original credits from the game in their thing, especially if you reuse any of the music from the original soundtrack.

i think, at the end of the day, my goal with this is to inspire more people to open source their games. a lot of good things can come out of it. that's all i have to say i think. play unitres dreams on newgrounds dot com ehehehe !!

playing through p5 royal for the first time and its quite bizarre how both great and mid all the new content manages to be,,, its overall positive enough to say its the definitive version and yet a lot of the new content is kinda lazy and shouldve been left out/reworked, not to mention it makes the game even easier than it already was but because of said easiness in the original, this almost isnt a bad thing cuz it just lets you go power crazy with getting overpowered which is kind of a step up from the original just being a bit unsatisfying with its amount of difficulty?

but then like phone conversations at the end of social links, about 80% of them add nothing of substance or even anything aesthetically fun and feel out of place and should just have not been put in the game, but at the same time the ones that do add are very welcomed

kasumi (so far no spoils pls) is rly bland personality wise and only gets weird specific quirks that feel too disconnected to rly give her a coherent vibe? which is both kind of an interesting design but also just devolves into every conversation being like "wow that was great senpai" with ren just saying a variation on "youre great kasumi :)" and idk it feels lazy to not have her have some noticeable flaw shes trying to work on like everyone else BUT shes also like the best romance option cuz of the sheer amount of 1 on 1 time her and joker get in the main story specifically no less, dr maruki is so far a fantastic character too with consistently some of the best philosophy the game brings up, literally questioning the existence and effectiveness of therapy, not to a meaningful political degree obvs but in the context of a dumb fun jrpg power fantasy adventure its super satisfying

and a lot of the new music is absolutely stellar,,, new op and battle theme are both weaker than the previous ones tho,,, theyre still pretty good mind you they just dont live up to the same standard and the fact that they take the spotlight away from the others feels a bit unnecessary and poor in design judgement, having both openings cycle the main menu wouldve been easy enough and take over would work perfectly as the regular battle theme with last surprise being the ambush theme (i mean it literally has 'surprise' in the title it feels like the way it shoulda been) but omg then dr. marukis theme absolutely fucks?? new mementos themes woulda been better if each one was less of a variation on the same thing but just more variety in general helps a lot there,,,, and holy fuck no more what ifs,,,, literally a vocals song that is just relegated to a hangout social spot??? lmao?? not even most of the time you go there either dkdhdjd and its like one of the best new tracks,,,, this is what i mean by everything being generally better but sloppily so,,,, just needed a lot of fat trimmed and some minor reworks im excited to get to the new palace i think thats really gonna decide whether this is better than the original or not for me

hmmm im a ride or die for diasomnia so i'll really take the hottest torch here that i believe they never shouldve done the dream hopping arc, ( just stop at iginihyde like kallisto mentioned), cuz atleast the STYX ppl are actually relevant with malleus overblot like theyre the ones dealing with it irl, while the other students are just victims and the writers just input them in this book to have 10chaps of their mc moment (aka they realize their dreams arent desirable to live) (this is what the recent dreams felt like to me ngl)

it felt that it just sidetracked the momentum lilia and silvers dream created and the plot quality diminished from there for me bcs as a reader, im going to be assured that theyre going to survive and wake up, unlike in previous dreams where i anticipated alot bcs there was actual danger involved, just like the other battle with the other overblots, but it was just gone the moment other dorms stepped in iwudiwie this arc wouldve been better at book 8 where it def would make sense since we completed all books now

but also i can argue that its not really the characters fault. i dont think its mentioned that much, but i felt like there was also a strange increase in our power against malleus somehow??? as a reader back on early book 7, it was established that countering malleus magic is incredibly difficult, that his magic is too complicated, it made me hyped to anticipate that theyre going to have an unique solution right??? that theyre going to explain the technicality of magic and MORE OVERBLOT LORE since the only info we got about magic rn is that its from imagination like.... and yet the solution the story provided for us is just too lukewarm imo and theres no background explanation as to why it works so well either (like how did STYX suddenly cracked the code that they can control Silver's UM (whom they had no prior contact with) so that he falls into specific person's dreamworld? why is Silver not overwhelmed yet by his heavy use of magic? how can they be assured that other dreamers who woke up from their dream wont collapse back to the darkness? how is lilia fighting malleus suddenly makes malleus prone to weakness like he cant pay attention to his dream world anymore) i just felt like there was an awkward increase in the good side's power against malleus that its making me believe that the info we got earlier about malleus' magic was just stretching his capabilities lol

but yeah a occasional checkup with mal and lilia would be good too !! honestly would save the dissonance with how lighthearted the scenes the moment idia and ortho took silver's place as the dream guide, i really love the dramatic serious and tragedy tones of the earlier games but uts just kinda not here anymore with the recent updates, just my preference though, i love serious stories and would never settle with anything lukewarm lol

i also def agree with kallisto here, they really should go back ALOT of the lore mentioned at briarland, ESP PRINCESS GLOW LEVAN AND THE SILVER OWLS WHY IS NRC COLISUEM AT THE SILVER OWLS LIKE 💀 WHY IS DIAOSMNIA DORM AT WILD ROSE CASTLE TOO LIKE 😭💀(also pls i wanna know so bad why night faes were so villainized in the first place, what did they even do lol and why did briarland had to lose like 80% of their territory after war why didnt they restore it like theres still faes living outside briar valley at that time like😭😭😭) AND!!! Its like Henric and Meleanor's character dynamic yk, it felt like Henric/the Senates were just disposable villains that can alleviates Meleanor/Lilia's morals and story, I wouldve like the motivations of their feelings more nuanced yk or atleast make it make sense in their situation (like make the Senates hate that Lilia failed to protect the Princess instead since that kinda makes sense considering their job is "to keep the Draconias intact" (atleast thats what i get about their concept lol theyre kinda like Baul/Sebek but without their empathy and kindness), rather than Lilia as a person/mage)

I’ve been seeing a lot of talk and critique on how Book 7 is structured- and I’m curious: How would you adjust the way Book 7 is approached? 😊 This post can be a space for you to leave your thoughts and ideas here 💕💕💕🐦‍⬛

I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and for me personally, I feel like the problem isn’t necessarily the dream hopping. After a year in irl time, it did feel a little tedious at times, but the stories themselves within the dreams, many of which only possible through these dream worlds, are intriguing and fun. Some dreams are a hit or miss, but it’s definitely a new format in the main story that Malleus’ Unique Magic has allowed.

However, I find that in my personal gripe with Book 7 is the pacing and balance.

Currently in JP, we are at Chapter 226. Lilia’s dream officially ended at chapter 100, so a 126 chapter difference from the last Diasomnia dream. 126 chapters fits the Prologue, Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, and a small chunk of Book 4

I do recognize it’s an odd complaint, considering the structure of Book 6, with all the towers containing mass amounts of chapters each. However-

I feel like there was phenomenal balance kept in this book. Book 6 introduced an entirely new and solidified environment outside of NRC while still keeping balance with very intriguing and “alien” lore, building up revelations for the late game regarding Grim and OBs, character interactions between the kidnapped Overblotters, having all of Pomefiore play an important role, and giving Ortho and Idia lots of time to shine. Idia’s Overblot form was kept secret for such a long time, BUT we got to check back with him frequently! We heard his voice and interactions with Ortho, and he had lots of time to shine in the Overblot battle, and a really heart wrenching moments of backstory. Plus, yes this book was long, but it kept focus on the story of Shroud family and blot. All of this, was for building up the future of Overblot and letting the Shrouds shine in the environment they know best. Something that the entire Diasomnia crew isn’t exactly getting in Book 7. Additionally, even though the towers had a lot of parts, each tower level was released at the same time, you know? •v• It wasn’t “Pomefiore group chapter, another few months for Leona and Jamil, etc etc.” We got generous amounts of story at one time.

But in Book 7, it’s been several updates since even hearing Malleus’ voice. His battle against Ortho was the last we’ve heard of him, and it was definitely more focused on Ortho rather than Malleus’ current state. It was a great scene, of course! But there are some additions I would’ve loved to have.

To me, I feel like there are two major things I would’ve liked for Book 7

1. Polish the dreams. @/raven-at-the-writing-desk has put my thoughts about the sort of…meandering and tons of stuff done blatantly for convenience. Such as, making every single person use their Unique Magics, and having to leave people behind for arbitrary-ish reasons just because a huge cast rn is impossible. Idia’s explanation that taking too many people would draw Malleus’ attention makes sense, but I also would’ve liked if Silver’s UM had its limits on the amount of people he could take with him? 🧐 im not sure. A lot of these just aren’t working without heavy amount of explanations that drag down any tension that dream may have been building up. I feel like everyone using their UM is more suitable for a Book 8, a battle against the Chimera-Grim from the prologue? It doesn’t feel particularly outstanding in the dreamworld, and it feels forced at times.

2. Check in on Malleus periodically. I would like to see how Malleus is faring in the irl world. What is he thinking right now when monitoring the dreams? How is he currently feeling now that Sage’s Island has essentially become a ghost town? Has he moved the sleeping bodies to make them more comfortable, or is he afraid to touch? What is he feeling just seeing everyone like this, compared to the brightness of earlier days in NRC? Or, you know, how is his fight with Lilia faring?? Even just brief check ups on him, perhaps after each OB victim confronts themselves, would ease a lot of the understandable tension in the fan base right now- there are so many of his thoughts we don’t know right now, and him currently being in complete solitary is the perfect time to peek in on him, to emphasize his loneliness, and contradict at how everyone is currently seeing him as purely a villain. This is the biggest thing I want from Book 7- the dreams are super fun and cool, I love all the new sprites and backstories and the tying up loose ends, but checking in on Malleus every update or so would’ve been incredible.

Additionally, I’m also a little worried about the Briar Valley lore. Again, Lilia’s dream ended at Chapter 100, and we still have many more chapters left to tie up Book 7. I think to a more casual fan base, aka the ones that aren’t constantly obsessively theorizing (cough me 🤣), items with likely high importance like the Princess Glow, identical locations like the Silver Owl eastern fortress to the NRC coliseum, or characters like Raverne are kind of…in the air. We are very far away from these past moments of lore in the current main story. Im sure the dreamers (Silver, Sebek, Yuu, and Grim) can bring them back up through flashbacks in the future, but considering many of these received very little lore, and stuff like the Princess Glow was only mentioned once or twice…

I have a slight concern at how interest in these things will be organically brought into Book 8 (if they are indeed of importance). I have faith though!!! Im just worried that most of these things have long since been forgotten by fans due to the lack of focus. Book 6 lore regarding curses and OBs put heavy significance and time on these things, making it memorable since it’s all connected back to Grim, and Overblot is a huge point of intrigue in the game overall. The Princess Glow and Raverne admittedly don’t have that same appeal YET to the wider fan base, so I’m eager to see how they may be brought back in a Book 8, or at least tie up loose ends.

These are my thoughts! I have faith that Book 8 will cover A LOT of lore perhaps regarding Night Raven College, Ramshackle Dorm, and Briar Valley lore. But I think Book 7 could have much more balance regarding Malleus- I love all the concepts presented here, but balance feels needed. I’m curious to hear what you all think- whether you like the story the way it is, or would completely change it up, etc! ^_^

Ok ok im tired of seeing every mention of bigbs betrayal being all the same takes over and over about either cleo and/or that he could have asked, so here are some other thoughts:

- the point of boogeyman, and technically the game at large, is to get people to trust u so theyre less of a threat. Technically bigb did exactly what the role was intended for, he basically just played the long con. The fact that he caught feelings cause he didnt Realize he was playing a long con just makes it that much juicier

- also how many people can say they Actually gained Cleo's trust? Bdubs. And MAYBE tango. And even then was it her trust they got or just her affection? Technically i think that makes bigb one of the best boogeymen so far.

- After all what better way to gain someones trust than to genuinely deserve it. Up. Till. The very. Last. Moment. (Not great for cleo's future trust endeavors, but that kind of works seeing as thats the one thing she doesn't need anymore...) (also another great foil moment to ren, who also gains trust thru actually deserving it- imo)

- consider why the fairies ultimately decided to stick with him. Theyve all been boogeymen. They Know the itch. They kno, even tho they Started by trying to kill outside the alliance, if push came to shove, EXACTLY how it did for bigb (he didn't immediately decide to kill in-ranks, he struggled the whole episode to find Anyone), they wouldve done anything as well.

- yes, if he'd told them, if he'd ASKED for help, push might Not have come to shove for bigb, but consider why he didnt. He was Terrified. He isnt like Lizzie, he specifically mentioned he doesnt kno how to build traps and there were several moments he Could have pvped that Could have failed. And he's not ren either. He doesnt have the leverage ren has, he doesnt have the repor that would help him trust others to Trust him. And hes not cleo, shes never been the boogeyman, she has no idea what she'd do (or wouldve done) let alone anyone else knowing.

- remember bigb telling etho he wouldnt kill anyone? That he thought maybe he'd just go to red? He almost did. Do you think he thought of that in those final moments? Why do you think he changed his mind? Maybe being boogeyman made him realize how impossible winning on red might be for him. Maybe he realized he'd rather take the risk losing a friend on green than not having the option of friends on red...

- And can we talk about his main ally being cleo? Cleo who, even when she had absolutely 0 reasons not to trust ren, refused to trust him. Shes willing to drop people. Shes willing to drop Anyone. Even when she Swore she would Die for tango and bdubs, she said it because she Believed they might ask. Because when the name of the game is last life, the only person you can Trust is yourself.

- I do believe that, in the last 5 minutes, if bigb had told her, cleo would have let him kill her. But if he'd asked for their help from the start the way ren did? If he'd told her on that ladder, or on the bridge, or maybe even standing over the pond having listened to them all jump aboard to help ren. I dont think it would have been the same.

- And maybe, maybe bigb didnt want to ask. Maybe in spite of the curse, in spite of every instinct to survive. Bigb might hoped, believed even, that he might fail to kill Cleo.

- Lizzie didnt think to disavow bigb. I personally think it just genuinely didnt occur to her, because real time rping and what have u. But she could have condemned bigb. It wouldve made sense. Cleo was angry that she was betrayed, if Lizzie had simply said i am also angry you got betrayed (and she seemed like she honestly was) if she had said why would i want someone i kno will betray their closest allies on my team (and why would she) she might have won cleo back, and cleo wouldn't have gone over to scott and pearl's and she wouldnt have gone red...

- martyn trying to exile bigb from the fairies without being a part of them

- the way martyn is trying to use ren to control the fairies, but he crossed the line. He's never been boogeyman, he didnt think ren would side with a traitor, maybe he should wonder just how much he Does kno about ren. Just how much power he really has.. (also, just, ren being the one to stick up for bigb And against martyn one of the people actually like the most 🥺🥺) (also martyn overstepping- over estimating what he can get away with >:3 get lost stinky boy!!)

-the shadow fairies are now entirely composed of people who have been afflicted by the curse

- not only did the only person to not experience the curse end up being the one to abandon ship now shes a red name

- (listen, writing isnt my strong suit, but i feel like red names v boogeymen make for an interesting dichotomy, like red names are almost more "natural" and harder to come back from, where the boogeyman is practically a virus and people who have it are still green names, they still have the chance to "remove" the curse and being red is still the most terrifying threat)

- mix that with cleo's general self-riteousness (affectionate)- "i have the RIGHT to kill, now, youre all just TRAITORS"

- i think cleo pointing out to ren that she knew if push came to shove ren wouldve betrayed her or bigb was really important to ren sticking up for bigb afterward

- yes theyre perfect foils for what happened- the difference between being transparent with ur allies and having help v not and ending up being Forced to betray.

- But Cleo Was right and ren Does grant that if skizz hadnt worked he wouldve been short on time and even Lizzie may have requested he kill one of their allies rather than lose her guard dog

- even tho bigb was in 3rd life he was forced to make way less difficult decisions, mostly cause he was just less confrontational, he has less experience with that that than ren, he was SCARED

- he was Scared his allies didnt care enough about him to help. He was scared he had the one ally on the server most likely to drop him for even being remotely a threat. He was Scared that he didnt have what it took to pvp or trap or beguile!

- and if u just take even a moment to consider "why DIDN'T he tell anyone after they spent literally the whole episode Helping ren", u realise the answer couldve very well been.. "well, im not ren" maybe he felt like more of an outsider than ren, more expendable.

-bigb cast himself out of the alliance before they ever had the chance to. By staying on the outside, he never had to know if they would turn their backs on him. And the fact that they decided to stick with him after it all, when he thought they might really cast him out. Looked inside themselves and realized that bigb was Not an outsider- Not a Betrayer- that he was in fact, just like them- scared and afflicted and feeling completely alone. I think this could make their alliance way stronger than the others, and possibly even make ren more resilient to martyns whispers (although evidence points to no on that one)

- i do think, tho, bigb needs to find something more substantial to tie himself to them fast though. "We have all had to deal with the fear of betraying our friends now" is not exactly the most substantial post to tie your bonds to. But i think just making that idea stronger by Being more transparent moving forward could do the trick. Making it less "we all have almost betrayed our friends" and making it "we are not the curse that made us do that" maybe? Might could help? And by being honest- not vulnerable but honest- moving forward could have that desired effect, exactly...

who did lime kill? and how does the eedt of the guild feel about it?

(this is all mostly beta so far, post-timeskip and actually closer to the end of the story) but umm...,,im not sure who he is yet..,.i know he knew cat-ears in the underground, probably another good fighter who was all the shit before lime got down there and swept the floor with him, and hes never forgive cat-ears since, so at the very least hes a member of the magic community, and a good fighter!!

after the cat-ears thing cleared up with mochi, some time later there was a bounty put on "cat-ears'" head, which was from this same guy looking for a real rematch (big pride i think, and also supposedly very rich?? rich enough to put a heavy bounty)

anyway mochi and lime go to have this rematch (lime wearing his cat-ears disguise), and whoops the guys ass again, but sometime during that fight or after, said guy figures out/realizes that this witch that cat-ears is protecting is the cat-witch, and so that becomes a new motive for him. not sure what he wants yet,,..to kill her?? take her power or try to?? sell her to the highest bidder????

anyway this guy - i have no idea what power he has yet - but he causes a lot of shit for mochi and lime. hes the one that uhh actually KILLS lime, the same episode where sulluvan shows up and mochis like "what are you doing here" and 5 seconds later lime gets..something.,,,,shoved through his body..,,sulluvan is there to take his soul to the afterlife and mochi has to delve into some shitty dark magic to save his ass and it corrupts her magic for a while (beta)

he also does/tries to do something to mochi, again not sure what yet but at the end of it she is not okay and the result was he is very hard to kill so he got away and she was terrified of him finding them again

after THAT fight, lime finds him instead. and the guy is kinda fucked up from mochis magic, but still alive and recovering, and he gives the whole villian monologue, blah blah you thought you could kill me but ill have my revenge, she cant run from me forever and when i find her im gonna do (insert evil fucked up deeds), she'll never be rid of me because she cant kill me blah blah

and after lime is like "yeah youre right, she cant kill you." and then summons his thunderbat, and cracks the guy in the jaw with it, and when towering over him he goes "...but i sure as hell can." and absolutely fucks the guy up beating the shit out of him. wont go into the gore but lets say lime is very thorough. maybe sulluvan shows up here too and lets lime know that he'll take care of the rest,,

when lime goes home mochi is feeling a little better, working on some spell to keep that guy away, and lime walks in with blood all over his bat (maybe some splattered on his face), and goes "You dont need to worry about that moch. hes not gonna bother us anymore." and she realizes

she asks him if hes alright but honestly, it wasnt a huge psychological damage to lime at all. tell her he guy almost - well, he DID kill him, hurt her, tried to keep hurting her, and everyone hates him so the guy deserved it and the world is a much better place without him. she gives him a tight hug anyway and a soft thank you

(as for the rest of the guild, shit theyre all on limes side too LMFAOOOOO they all love him by that time - yes even coco - and losing lime wouldve sucked for everyone. plus the fucker tried to hurt/did hurt/tried to kill mochi and NO ONE is okay with that. the guild backs him 100%. cocos a little jealous. when will i make my first kill, she says, and mochi says thats not funny pls shut up)

(its also worth noting that every member of the magic community is an outlaw - literally outside the law. they are free game for anyone to do anything to, its the wild west in the magic community. the gov doesn't give a shit if you kill each other, in fact they probably prefer it, so lime never faces consequences for that, and is also why mochi works so hard to protect herself and the people shoe loves because theres no help to be found within the community or outside of it)

I hope this addition is not too annoying, but i agree with everything you said except that the majima saga is a masterpiece.

Now dont get me wrong I loved it too, i loved the new characters, i loved that majima finally returned to sotenbori, i loved the kashiwagi content we got i love that man and of course i loved that i got to play as majima again (man i wish i could play dead souls) my favorite part was how these 3 chapters, to me, served more of as an exploration of how majima learnt to move past and accept what had happened in 1988, how he realized that despite all the pain and suffering, good things did happen to him in sotenbori too, how he saw how makoto remembers these events as something worth remembering and that it’s part of her and made her the person she is today, how even though she suffered so much in this city, she still came back to live here because of her good memories with him. It was kind of like going through his own zetsubouchou pride moment about learning yeah life is shit but that made me who i am today so you can all suck it. it was an amazing closure to the whole majima/makoto story imo i wouldnt have it any other way.

However the majima saga is… kind of messy. I feel like the story couldve been only slightly longer, couldve explored some of its moments a little better but at the end of the day i know this is just a small side story so i cant expect much of it. Still, sometimes the endings of each chapter shocked me a little, like i was sitting there just like “wait. This is it? Thats the end of this chapter?”

How limited it is annoys me so much but, once again, i know its just a small sideplot so i cant really expect more. I didnt want a full fledged combat system for majima like it was yakuza 0 but it just felt like i was taking the mad dog out for a walk in the park on a leash but the mad dog was just like a pissed off chihuahua. The fact that street enemies were just casually strewn around the city instead of moving like in the main story was a little annoying because its not like theres much to do in this side game im just trying to get to my next objective and these guys are in the way and wont budge unless i pummel them. (I know weird complaint to have with a fighting game but its not like the combat was that fun) The eating system was just Bad what do you mean i cant eat more i need to heal idgaf if majima is full already. But thats not really that serious of a gripe.

One issue that i know is not with the game but because of the innate nature of prequels is that the characters introduced in the majima saga were so FUN i loved ibuchi and uematsu was so cool i wanted more of them but obviously because it takes place before the main story they cant just be retconned back in, they had to die. Burying them in the graveyard of characters who wouldve been SO COOL if we got to see them in more games, right next to nishitani and the dojima lieutenants.

My biggest issue is… the entire majima saga is kind of unnecessary. We already had a good explanation for why majima left the tojo, terada didnt care about the old guard guys so majima got bored and left. (And majima construction is just a totally majima thing to do and its not like the majima saga gave insight as to why his plan b if this yakuza thing didnt work out was to start building shit. If anything the goromi date did that) its really just fanservice, rgg studios realizing after yakuza 0 that people fucking love majima and so they need to do more with majima. (which is not a bad thing!!! I love majima everywhere i love the majima saga i think theyre all fun)

Thats one observation i had with this game, that i felt like a lot of the side content hinges on that you have played 0 and get all these references and callbacks. I dont know how grounded in reality that is because its been a while since i finished kiwami 2 but i remember i did feel like that while playing, that it was just Look!!! You remember this thing from 0!!! You loved this in 0!!!! 0 was a good game so now this game is good too!!!!! I didnt complete majima construction but i assume theres lots of references in there, cabaret club grand prix was just a slightly worse rehash of cabaret club czar with WAY worse hostess training segments, sometimes they were a genuine slog to sit through (and i mean they even copied the one of the hostesses gets kidnapped thing from the ccc plot line!! Like cmon guys you really couldnt think of any other reason koyuki might not be available rn have her visit family or something)

The whole majima saga exists just to have that one scene with majima and makoto for the sake of a yakuza 0 reference and more majima content to appease the fans, the among us ass murder mystery story (which is a story type we all get so familiar with in yakuza 3 for better or for worse) was enjoyable sure i liked ibuchi but it was barely held together by some scotch tape at points. The ending fucks supremely though i have zero problems about that.

so this was a tag i just got on the TO WHOM⁉️⁉️ response to the rgg summit proposal reveals post and im literally obsessed with it i've been talking to myself about it for the entire like hour since i saw it. they really do just fucking make awful decisions sometimes and we all know this. basically like every single game there's at least one Oh My God Why Did You Do That catastrophic choice made by the writers. they really are flopping all the time. i love these games but man no you're so right why are they like that

lmao i just... think that they r soulmates.... not even in a romantic way (but YES in a romantic way bc im gay and love lesbians) but just seriously dude i feel like their connection is so unique and it makes me start having feelings when i think of how attached some of the characters are to each other in this game but like,, they maybe never wouldve rlly met or become close under any other circumstances rather than this one yknow ?? so in a way the beautiful relationships that came from this situation were such a blessing BUT ALSO FUCKIN HEARTBREAKING BC THEYRE ALL GONNA DIE YOU FEEL

so ,,, first im gonna talk about why its so epic that sakura was able to find this friendship right... shes this big scary buff woman and i remember her saying that its been hard for her to find friends in the past bc everyone fears her and her main goal has been fighting and getting stronger her whole life which has been especially hard since shes a woman and feels like she has to prove herself to men (this is also similar to how taka bent over backwards with his studies but in doing so sacrificed friends and social life). im assuming most of her close relationships have been born from rivalries and fights n shit or any relationship she has at home, even with her family and bf, revolves around her wanting to become better than these people by defeating them,,, i think thats also how she shows affection to ppl now sometimes by fighting them. bUT,, then she meets hina who is super bubbly and friendly and ditzy who immediately trusts her right away and asks her to stay with her during the night or smthn like that and sakura is like “homie... shes not scared of me at all... and she gets what its like to be competitive... and to yknow keep working hard every day of ur life to keep getting stronger...” and i think that was a super important moment here bc they seem so different but hina was so open and willing to start a bond with sakura that she prolly hadnt experienced before and so therefore sakura is like HOLY SHIT I GOTTA PROTECT THIS WOMAN WITH MY LIFE but like,, not in a way that she thinks hina is weak,,, but in a way that shows she respects the hell out of her and will always stand by her side to fight with her. 

OKAY AND NOW FOR HINA OKAY. it pisses me off that everyone always picks on hina for being so driven to work out and all that bc like,, while yeah i could NEVER live like her bc sports arent my cup of tea (lmao clearly since i spend all my time watching anime and playing this game) and the thought of waking up before 10:00 on my free days makes me wanna cry,,, HINA IS SO FUCKING DEDICATED TO WHAT SHE DOES AND SHE SPENDS ALL HER ENERGY ON WHAT SHE LOVES AND WHAT MAKES HER FEEL GOOD AND SHES DAMN GOOD AT IT !! in conclusion: sakura and hina are fucking soulmates and i rlly like to think they wouldve met in a non-despair world bc i think having each other as partners/being by each others sides is such an amazing thing for both of them since they see each other for who they really are and they can both fully understand what it means to be so passionate and driven for the things they love.

It's been over a month since RH left and initially I thought that I would feel a hole in AH content but it's been the opposite. I feel like there has been a tension lifted, that they are all have better chemistry and friendliness. RH definitely made AH seem like "coworkers" rather than friends whereas now you can feel the 'friends first who play games'. Especially with them twitch streaming together. I didn't realise the negative energy, bitchy attitude and bad vibes he gave content until he was gone. AH are better off without him for so many reasons including the fact that his overbearing presence and needing to be heard (and have the last say) has gone. AH's content has been a well needed breath of fresh air.

i’m not sure i feel like this quite to this degree, but to some extent i definitely agree. its like im sure ah wouldve said this was crazy and theyre all friends before everything came out and like they really considered him a friend, but yeah when someone is hiding such huge things like that it will show. like at least in the sense that like he didnt seem like the type to talk about outside of work but everyone else does. everyone else seem to talk to each other outside of work 

its hard to tell what is actually true and what we now see looking back knowing the full story but i definitely agree about content being better. everyone seems closer than they have before. and honestly i watch a lot of their twitch streams more than i do their actual videos and i love when everyone streams together

1. the predatory wasp of the palisades is out to get us! by sufjan stevens i chose this song because it’s all about internalized homophobia and being in love with your best friend as a kid which RLLY resonates w jotakak imo. esp cause in the song, stevens’ friend ends up leaving abruptly, leaving stevens to wonder about what couldve blossomed if they had stuck together and worked through the difficulties together, which JOTARO....THAT IS JOTARO-CORE esp cause kak also “leaves” (dies). so this song was a v obvious choice for me and in fact this song is what inspired me to create this playlist in the first place

2. we are beautiful, we are doomed by los campesinos! this song is abt being in love with someone but you both have ur issues so it’s kind of a mess. considering jotaro and kakyoin’s (to point it quite frankly) trauma and the fact that both of them do jack shit to try and cope with it healthily, this song DEFINITELY fits them. esp cause this song mentions physical fighting and the imagery that goes with it (”he got his teeth fixed/im gonna break them”, “i’ve got a fist on fire”, etc) and the entirety of the bridge/last verse rlly gives me these two’s vibes so! ya (:

3. love love love by of monsters and men this song is the singer feeling like shes completely unworthy of being loved by this important person in her life, particularly because she has NO idea how to show affection and love the (for lack of better word) “acceptable” way, or any way at all really. this REALLY has jotaro vibes cause he is one repressed motherfucker and as we see the entirety of his story, jotaro is full of love he loves so much it’s just he has no idea how to properly express it cause he’s scared essentially. but that didn’t stop people from loving him, in this case, that being kakyoin. hhhhHHh

4. ribs by lorde this song is about being scared of growing up but due to the lyrics being written the way they are, i kinda spin the interpretation of it to be the fear jotaro and kakyoin had on the crusade to egypt, as they were the youngest and didnt know if they’d make it back and everything is just incredibly overwhelming there is so much going on all the time those 50 days. i can do a full analysis on why but that would be kinda long LMAO. for now let’s leave it at they have a very Unique fear of growing up but it still fits with the lyrics. particularly the last bit of the song with the “youre the only friend i need” verses,,,makes me think of these two...

5. can i call you tonight? by dayglow i interpret this song to be about trying to figure out what, exactly, your feelings are for this very specific and important person in your life. since jotaro and kakyoin r both repressed and also suckers of internalized homophobia, i think they fit that theme very well. particularly with the whole “i feel like we’re close, but maybe we’re not actually? what are we?” theme going on in the lyrics, this whole song makes me think of jotaro and kakyoin figuring out their intense and sudden (cause again only 50 days but also, those 50 days had So Much going on) feelings for each other. also the “now i’m no longer alone” line in the chorus HHHHHHH that’s them

6. la la la love song by toshinobu kubota ft naomi campbell SO I KNOW THIS SONG IS KINDA JUST FLUFF but we need some light-hearted moments in this thing hjgg;. ALSO toshinobu kubota is canonically jotaro’s favorite musician so i wanted to reference that and this was my fav love song of his that i’ve found so far so (: also the “you are my shining star” line,,,heh

7. truce by twenty one pilots so this song is very soft. it’s about tending to wounds and taking a moment before continuing to push on. it makes me think abt jotaro and kakyoin taking care of each other on the journey (for example the lovers arc/n’doul fight). also the whole “stay alive, stay alive for me/you will die, but now your life is free/take pride in what is sure to die” makes me go fucking nuts that is. that fits these two to a T fuck

8. this side of paradise by coyote theory this song has big “two lonely people are in love with each other for the first time” vibes and OHHHHHHHHHH THAT’S JOTAKAK.... there are a lot of little lines that make me specifically think abt these two, such as “love so strong it makes me feel weak” (jotaro-core...), “if you’re lonely come be lonely with me”, “i’ll be yours if you’ll be mine” (wanting some security while ur in love for the first time is common but especially for these two i think it works spectacularly) but yea this song as a whole is just...ohhh them. theyre in lvoe HK;FNJFL

9. i saw you in a dream by the japanese house EVERY. SINGLE. LINE. OF THIS SONG IS POST-EGYPT JOTARO. EVERY SINGLE LINE. and the ghost the singer talks about seeing? they hadnt changed at all? they were such a pretty vision, a perfect hallucination? BRUH... just listen i could do a whole analysis on this song it all just fits jotaro mourning kakyoin throughout the years so so so so well it makes me feel nuts holy shit i just. literally every line. every line fits i am not joking. i cried when i first heard this song LMAO

10. video games by the young professionals SO LMAO obviously kakyoin’s epic gamer moves are being referenced but beyond that i interpret this song to just be the fun parts of being in love esp when ur young (backed up with the “kissing in the blue dark” and the “watching all our friends fall” lines). also the chorus just makes me want to cry cause just, happy jotakak moments PLEASE. “the world was built for two only worth living if somebody is loving you, and baby now you do” THEYRE NOT ALONE ANYMORE THEY FOUDN EACH OTHER IM GONAN WAILLLLLLL oh my god. im nuts theynkjNJKNJF also “i heard that you like the bad girls” please. these two shitty teenagers

11. ikanaide by sohta ft. yuki kaai this song is abt not wanting someone u love to leave u cause youll miss them obviously but also ur scared of how the time will change you and if it’ll make you unrecognizable eventually. big post-egypt jotaro vibes 😔 especially cause one part of the chorus translates to “i shouldnt cry, i shouldnt cry, but the truth is i want to say dont go” and im jus like OHHHHH NO IT’S JOTARO FINDING OUT KAKYOIN DIED jkfnNKJFNJDhkld

12. therefore you and me by eve ALRIGHT. god this song is one hell of a doozy. i interpret this song to mean being sincerely in love but youre in the wrong place/wrong time. considering the uh Whole Situation in part 3 there were definitely better times to fall in love for these two. jotaro and kakyoin try to be happy w the moments they do have (i think the second verse in particular adds to this sentiment what with the selfish ghosts part) but they want a better environment understandably so theyre also just kinda ignoring things until they can properly care for a relationship. but well...who knows if theyll live to make it to that better environment ):

13. mayonaka no door/stay with me by miki matsubara this song is a v sweet sentiment abt like “it’s not just heat of the moment!! i do care about u a lot!!” and asking the person u have feelings for to stick around. big kakyoin and jotaro vibes as it would be easy to call what they have a fling considering how relatively short of a timeframe they had but i genuinely think their relationship was deeper than just that and this song nicely reflects such. “jotaro and i will share a room cause we’re both students” fuckin head ass

14. a thousand years by sting oh sting.... so since sting is kakyoin’s favorite musician canonically i had to add one of his songs here as well but beyond just that i do think this song fits them!! it kinda gives me big “if not in this life, then the next” vibes which is a big uhhh thing for jotakak. they may be doomed to tragedy but the moments they have together make the tragedy worth enduring ironically i feel like this song is mostly from jotaro’s pov considering i dont think he ever completely got over kakyoin and this song def has that kinda sentiment but hey it fits them...

15. mr loverman by ricky montgomery SO FUNNY STORY i actually REALLY. REALLY didnt wanna add this song at first cause i felt it wouldve been...idk too cliche? i guess? and i was ALL kinds of picky when choosing songs for this playlist HOWEVER. eventually i relistened to it and read the lyrics while thinking specifically abt jotakak and it actually rlly does fit quite well KJDFN; another jotaro mourning song ): it’s not just the chorus tho the whole song fits jotaro immediately post-egypt but also i feel like some time around part 4 this sentiment would come back to him cause Yknow. Gays In Morioh and the mess of his family life back in america. it just aches for him cause while he’s happy josuke is happy he wishes he couldve had that for him and kakyoin too but yea jus ... them

16. you by petit biscuit an instrumental?? in a ship playlist?? yes that’s right much like mr loverman i was hesitant to put this song in cause it’s harder to justify since i dont rlly know much abt music (and not to b controversial but interpreting lyrics and interpreting music r two different things) however i really think the vibes of this song fit jotakak. it’s got a somber melody but the keys of the piano are high which im taking to mean “light in the dark” which. jotaro and kakyoin (along w the rest of the crusaders) were each other’s lights in the dark. also the ending samples a conference/lecture talking about space flight and like. star platinum. space symbolism. jotaro. yeah

17. saturn by sleeping at last MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. this song is all about losing someone very close and important to you, but reflecting on the good they brought into your life rather than the pain of losing them. this song also has HEAVY space imagery which stardust crusaders is absolutely chalk fucking full of so also it’s a very philosophical song and considering that jotaro and kakyoin are both Nerds and both got a nice view of the stars/space in the desert with each other, im sure they had conversations similar to the one highlighted in the song. i think it’s a good note to end the playlist on cause kakyoin is dead and jotaro is the survivor but it’s not a mourning song so much as jotaro taking the love he had for kakyoin and pushing forward with it allll th way into part 6

but yeah that’s the tracklist! i might add or take away a song or two but this is mostly it (: hope yall enjoy!

okay. ive decided im going to discontinue the jirou x reader fanfic "wrong number, my bad" for a number of reasons that i will get into in a bit. i have also, however, decided to create an smau for hawks (probably not, but who ive decided on for now) x reader, based on something more personal about me. the goal of the story being more personal is to give me a better layout for how it should continue on and the feelings can be more genuine than me making up stories on a whim and hoping they work. i will give out the plan for wnmb, however, so that anybody interested can still understand how the story wouldve ended.

now as for why im abandoning wnmb.

1. i dont feel the energy to write it anymore. i dont like where the story is going, and with my current mental state and status at school, i dont have the ability to start over or try again. i font have the ideas for the story and just dont vibe with it.

2. mental reasons. i can't stick to the schedule i made for the story as well as i used to be able to, and also personal mental health reasons that sort of keep me from doing so.

3. there are personal life reasons that cause this, but jirou has slowly evolved into somewhat of a discomfort character. i dont want to get into the reasons as to why, but i dont like her that much and bad memories come up whenever i try to sit with her in my head for too long.

thats really all for why i dont want to continue wnmb, but for anybody interested, here was the plan as to how the story was planned out (via notes):
