Okay here goes my rant of Solas and how he is such a good lover. His romance has been broken down to hell and back but I DONT CARE! I’m adding my thoughts and just stirring the pot of Solavellan on tumblr. A community I love with all my heart.

Okay, so. The reason I believe Solas is such a good lover is because of how he respects Lavellan and likes to know more about her. That man was definitely wanting to kiss her when he was in that Haven dream, but he let her do it. He said she changed everything, but still didn’t take initiative and let Lavellan do it. Once she did and he knew she felt somewhat the same, THEN he went all in and used tongue. He was so down bad already. SO DOWN BAD!!!

And then he ends up asking for time and not wanting to lead her on. He’s open about his feelings though that’s definitely terrifying. Yes, he’s not telling the full truth about his past BUT he is talking about his feelings in the present and telling her the truth about that at least. I feel like he would understand if she wanted to end it and move on, and he sets boundaries and it makes sense. This man was a spirit of Wisdom that suddenly took a form and was used and abused his whole life until Inquisition, so he barely had time to understand FEELINGS and especially LOVE. He had little to no time to understand that, so he sets a boundary, lets her know he needs time. He needs to think before he does anything else. I see that as very sweet and considerate since he doesn’t want to lead either of them on and basically be a terrible lover because he isn’t sure he DOES love her. He isn’t sure and needs time, and it’s respectful and good to be HONEST about that, and he was.

Then talking about how he wants to know her more, I think about the talk on the balcony when he asks her if the mark has changed her. In my opinion this is when his view on the world has begun to change. He sees people as people and actually alive. Lavellan (at least my Lavellan) has helped refugees with blankets and food, helped a man’s dying wife get a potion she needed from her son, helped a random woman get justice and her wedding ring back from Templars when they killed her husband, and had done so much to help people. And she has to go out of her way to do this!! She was busy as hell yet still took the time to help them. She did all of this and he wondered if the anchor somehow changed her. In my head, he possibly was scared or worried of falling for someone that was changed, but then he learns she has always been this way, and it makes him cement in his feelings. He loves her and he cannot hold it back anymore, though he tries. He tries one last time to pull back, but her telling him to stay made him see how she also loved him and wanted him badly, so he gave in. He kissed her and told her that he loved her, speaking in his language to show how serious he was. We know if he speaks in elven, it’s gotta be serious and it was.

I believe Solas didn’t love freely and possibly never did romantically to anyone in ancient Arlathan. Not just for the trope of her being his first love, but because of how he had to do war and did such horrible things (due to Mythal and others) and definitely didn’t have time to get close to people, but this time he did. He got to know a woman that was a ‘shadow’ of his people, but she was really a light. Like Cole described her at the end of DAI, when he looked at her she shined bright and it was like looking at birds as they flew past the sun and how it hurt to look for too long. Feel like Solas looked at her and she was so bright and a unique spirit to see now due to how corrupted spirits could become and how the world was full of corruption and pain. Yet she still survived and was a beacon of light and hope. Hope to him especially.

Then, I think of how he left her. Leaving her was definitely a Choice™️ and feels dumb….but when I look at it in Solas POV I do understand a little bit. He is full of guilt and remorse and he knows he cannot love Lavellan to his full potential as long as he feels that way. He will focus on that guilt and regret and he can’t do that to her. She loves him, but she doesn’t know the Full sides of him, and it hurts. He loves her so much that he can’t lead her on. So he tries to tell her, but he can’t. He’s overwhelmed with fear and she doesn’t know about his past until he literally CANT hide it from her anymore. I think breaking up was sad and painful but it was considerate when you look at it from Solas. He wanted to protect her, and he believed leaving was the best option, and maybe it was. It’s sad it happened, but he at least thought of her in the moment, in my head anyways.

And then the FLYCAM SCENE OF HIM LEAVING DAI AND HOW HE TURNED AROUND ONE! LAST! TIME! TO LOOK AT LAVELLAN!!! Crazy guy. This asshole (affectionate).

And then Trespasser comes. It is an asshole move that he let Lavellan suffer the anchor for his plans, but if I’m right; he could’ve just let her die. But he saved her (and friend and rival inky but you get what I mean) and actually admits the past. The small “thank you” when Lavellan says she didn’t think he was capable of that is PAINFUL! STABBING ME IN THE HEART!!!! MURDERING ME!!!! Regardless, he told her the truth finally, saved her from Qunari spies and a whole war plot, and saved her life from the anchor. Plus, I think about how they first meeting Trespasser and how this MAN. THIS MAN THAT HAS THE POWER OF A GOD!

Takes a step back and hangs his head whenever she steps forward and yells at him.

HE STEPS BACK?!?!! Tell me you’re ashamed of how you left your GF and still love her and are terrified of her anger without telling me.

Her touch would destroy him!! A MAN WITH GOD POWERS!!! A MAN THAT DID A MIND BLAST THE SIZE OF A BOMB. And then the quiet “my love”!!!! And “I wish it could, Vhenan,” AND “I will never forget you,” AAAAAH. THIS MAN LIVES FOREVER!!! BUT HE WILL NEVER FORGET HER AND WILL LOVE HER FOREVER!!!! And then he still wants to be wrong. Well, he doesn’t but he does. He would treasure the chance to be wrong once again. IM CRAZY ABOUT HIM!!!

Anyways, now we’re talking about The Dreams. I’ve read fanfics/posts on tumblrs saying that they believe Solas, the first time at least, entering Lavellan’s dreams was an accident. I can totally see that…..however I see it as on purpose. This man was so in love that I cannot see him truly cutting her off all the way. He needs to at least see her, even if it’s in dreams. They used to be in the Fade together so many times until he ended it, so it’s so…natural to see her in dreams. He can’t sleep without seeing her and knowing she’s okay.

And from my understanding this most likely means Solas timed his sleep/meditating time with Lavellan’s sleep schedule. I could be wrong but when entering the Fade, you gotta be asleep or doing something with your mind and how could Solas do that simply awake? He couldn’t. He had to know when she was asleep!!! He knew her schedule and prayed it hadn’t changed AND IT DIDN’T! He remembered her schedule and met her in dreams…..but would leave when she tried to touch him because if she did it would just hurt more. I’m going fucking crazy.

This man is FULL of LONGING and LOVE and PAIN and OVERWHELMING EMOTIONS BECAUSE HE WAS A SPIRIT!!! AND NOW HE’S A PERSON!! AAAAAAH!!!!!

Anyways: now onto DATV. I find it funny when Rook mentions Lavellan and Solas is just “uh…she is a good woman,” and then smiles when Rook asks if he regrets loving her and he’s basically like “absolutely NOT”. He has countless regrets, yet he has come to cherish her more than his victories. His battles he won? They couldn’t compare to the love he got from her. To the love they shared. It couldn’t compare……

And god….the reunion at the end. I think we can all agree that the sound and music people went HARD on this scene. The CHOIR SWELLING WHEN LAVELLAN SHOWS UP??? Now that’s dramatic and totally what I was craving. But anyways the way Solas literally lowers the dagger and looks at Lavellan, and even turns his body completely to her! His eyebrows tilt up, his mouth is slightly open with shock, and his dagger is lowered as he whispers, “Vhenan…”. It almost feels like he couldn’t say it louder. And tbf he probably couldn’t given he just got the shit beat and BIT out of him LMAO.

But anyways he’s vulnerable in this moment. I believe if they wanted to kill him, this would’ve been the moment to do so. Lavellan was the perfect distraction, even if she wasn’t used that way. She still was. He gives her his attention in an INSTANT, and he can’t believe she’s there. And the “I forgive you!” line has to have hit him DEEP. Most likely no one has said that to him, so it’s just a lot when she says it out of everyone. And then finally being set free from Mythal (fuck that bitch) and having LAVELLAN lean down and whisper her love to him—one that never died or dwindled—and he sobs. It’s a breaking point.

And then the kiss and hand holding. I’ve seen the flycam of Solas holding onto her hand with BOTH of his hands. He missed his wife….and doesn’t want to let her go. But the BIGGEST act of love (well maybe 2nd biggest) is the final moment of leaving. He doesn’t turn to look at her or beckon her after she said she’d join him. He tells Rook thanks and then walks ahead….without looking at Lavellan. He doesn’t want to guilt her into following him down this path. It is her choice and she follows willingly.

He even WARNS HER!!!! He is Wisdom and wants her to know the truth of this path, to know it will be hard and terrible, BUT IT WONT BE AS LONG AS THEY’RE TOGETHER!!! He doesn’t look at her because he didn’t want to give orders. But she goes anyways. She places a hand on his shoulder, most likely very gently given his state, and then they disappear forever. They go into the Fade together, both changed yet still in love.

To me, Solas telling Lavellan she doesn’t have to go and warning her is a big sign of his love once again. He wants the best for her and KNOWS she’s suffered through these years—partly his fault—and doesn’t want her to any longer. He wants her to live happily, but she can’t without him. Still, he warns her, doesn’t ask or command her to follow him. He didn’t want to give orders. It’s like the saying of if you really love someone you’ll let them go or something and it fits Solas. He was willing to let her go if she wanted and would go into eternity alone. BUT SHE WOULDN’T LET HIM!! AND NOW THEY CAN LIVE FOREVER!!!!!

And now….Papae Solas…..Solas would be SUCH a good dad. He’s definitely freaking out and panicking and all that, but he would love his children so fucking hard. He’s holding such a small being, one that relies on him for love and care, and WISDOM!’ THEY NEED TO LEARN!!! There’s no way he ain’t there teaching them fucking math or how to answer the questions of life when they can only babble back and he takes it so serious. He’s like “yeah why didn’t I think about that?” WHEN ITS JUST BABBLES!!!!

That motherfucker will DRAW them!!! Draw a family portrait, draw Lavellan holding the baby, draw HIMM HOLDING THE BABY!! Everytime they change—like height or stage of life—he paints them. He’s such a good dad. He would never abandon this small creature that needs his guidance. He would definitely SOB when his kid calls him “Papae” OKAY? DEFINITELY. He cries when he sees Lavellan sing and rock them to sleep, and is just emotional!!!! He helps Lavellan when she’s sleep deprived and is so Tired and he’s like “baby let me get the baby it’s okay. You sleep💙” and she trusts him so much and it’s OKAYYYT!! THEYRE A TEAM IN THIS!!! They’re both learning from each other in this. Solas holds the babe the first time and needs instructions and Lavellan guides him with a gentle voice.

If that baby cries in his arms he will definitely cry as well LMAO. But he’ll eventually learn it’s just what babies do. They cry a lot. He’ll learn to be a parent, how to raise something so small into an adult, and genuinely give them allllll of his love. That man would not be an absent father. He would be the most PRESENT father! He would be the dad that steps up for everything.

All in all……

Solas in a nutshell when it comes to Lavellan:

His agents most definitely made fun of him whenever he went to meditate and they caught a glimpse of the Inquisition throne. Anyways, hope you enjoyed :)))). I love Solas sm. Can forever and ever talk about him.

I have the sneaking suspicion that there might be some mind control/corruption thing thats going to happen to Twilight.

In the sense that, the evil from the injury isnt truly gone, and that Dink may be able to use it to somehow turn Twilight against the others or at least something similar

In sunset pt. 11, we see Four start to worry about what reprecussions using the shadow crystal to transform could have after finding out that its the way twilight switches forms

While i dont think the shadow crystal would be to blame if something like this does happen, at least not fully (it could serve as a sort of “aid” to Dink maybe?), its interesting to see this idea even be brought up. Its definitly suspicious to me because Jojo obviously has the comic planned (or at least the bigger events), most scenes and bits of dialouge are added with purpose. So again, the idea even being proposed seems a little fishy. It should also be noted that even in recent times Four seems concerned, in moving forward, when Twilight uses the shadow crystal infront of everyone for the first time, hes shown to be concerned, its especially interesting to me because its not just shown in the background or akongside the other memebers, but rather Four is given his own comic panel to show his concern, which to me indicates that his reaction and thoughts on the matter are important for later in some capacity.

Moving forward

Another thing i find a little suspicious is how much its “focused on” that Twilight made a miracle recovery. Everyones confused and even suspicios of Twilight, rightfully so honestly. How did he just randomly recover from a seemingly cursed injury that wasnt letting up at all?

As i said, i find it interesting how theres this insistance on wether Twilight is actually ok. Here is also the first time the idea of the injury potentially possesing him gets brought up (3rd picture), and while its brushed off with a joke about Wild trying to force Twi into talking about Midna in dawn pt. 3 it remains unanswered . Thats likely because they just dont know, but there isnt too much concern because, for now, Twi seens fine so theres no reason to worry… probably

Moving onto the more recent chapters, specifically central room pt 4. Where the chain has been divied into pairs (excluding Time, Four and Wind), with Twi and Sky being put together. Now from a in-universe standpoint, its a good strategy. Twi is injured and hasnt fully recoverd, Dink could potentially have a specific grudge against him for what happened all the way back in shifting shadows and sunset so it only makes sense to put him with Sky who has the master sword. But from an out of-universe standpoint it could be a set up for Dink and Sky (and ofc Twi) to come face to face, in which Dink could make Twilight turn on the other through some kind of remnants of the curse or possesion or whatever other method.

Because i mean… Sky would be a big target if we are going off logic. He has the master sword and he sure as hell knows how to use it, wouldnt Dink want to get him out the way of given the chance? I feel it could go in the direction of Dink specifically using Twilight as some kind of puppet because he knows the others wouldnt actually have it in them to kill Twi, even if he was activly going after them

I dont have much “proof” for all thats stated aside from these 2 panels in central room pt. 4

It isnt direct proof, but the rather ominous and dark lighting on Twi as opposed to Sky whos still behind him and in the light, combined with the faint glow of the master sword seems like a rather bad omen to me. Not to mention that the lighting on Twi is specifically a red. Yes, its because of the lantern and yes i could be looking too much into this but it just all seems very foreshadow-ey to me

Its just that theres alot of insistance and “dragging on” with this idea, both visually and in terms of dialouge. It would be normal for other characters to worry about another in this type of situation, it could definitly be interepreted as just a way to build relationships and make the characters seem less flat

But Four being explicitly shown to be retaining his worry about Twilight turning evil (by crystal or not) and it being highlighted by him getting an entire comic panel for it, the ominus lighting on Twi, the chain being annoying to Twilight about wether hes actually ok or not, the story potential for Dink to try and take out Sky and the rest by using Twi and exploting the fact that they wouldnt want to kill him. It all seems more than just coincidances and character building to me!!

a while back I sent an ill-worded question about words used to describe skin complexion, so first of all I want to apologise for how my question came across for you, the anger it caused and how careless my phrasing was in that regard. it wasn't meant that way, but of course that doesn't negate the damage done.

I've been debating what to say and how to say it, or whether I should just silently take the L on this miscommunication and leave it, because ultimately that's what it was. I never meant "how does that read to you?" as in "do you understand the words I'm saying?", frankly it didn't even cross my mind that questioning your understanding could be a genuine meaning of my words. that's just not how it makes sense to me.

I meant "how does that read to you?" as in "how does the very use of those words rooted in whiteness come across to Black readers when applied to Black characters by white writers?" (could I have been this clear? sure, if it had occurred to me that my question without explaining my full entire thought process could be terribly misconstrued, but it obviously did not occur to me, so here we are. all I can do is try to do better and I am trying).

though I have to say, in its own way the reply you gave me sheds light on that question. the descriptors all carry an implication, regardless of whether we have begrudging understanding that we all know what they are supposed to convey because we've learned the words and their meanings and we can use our brains to decipher context. though it brings me back to my question - how does the use of descriptors like paling/blanching/deathly pallor/etc. come across for Black readers? does it show the intent and care this blog is advocating for? is that something that takes people out of the story, especially when they know the author is white? and in that sense, are physiological descriptions preferred then?

ideally writers would make the effort to actually figure out how to describe Black complexion, it seems like the natural conclusion here, but for me it also begs the question what the equivalent to "to pale" for dark skin is, and I suspect the answer is there is none. (or maybe I just haven't encountered it?)

ultimately, I want to use my words in a good way, in a way that makes my Black readers feel seen, but language is hard and I don't always get it right. (as we have seen). and I'm thinking a step towards writing better descriptions is actually knowing what Black readers take away from them, and the impressions they leave behind. sure, there are probably some potentially obvious answers to this, but I think there is merit in making sure that we're all on the same page with things like this. after all we can't look into each other's heads.

I hope I was able to word my thoughts better this time around.

If this is about the ask that I think it is, I appreciate your apology. I wasn't actually mad at you, and i apologize if my response seemed to be at you directly. I was moreso upset at the ease of the use of your language and the concept itself. It's incredibly dehumanizing to realize just how many people don't seem to think that Black people function as human beings, or that we are somehow so innately different from white bodies that extrapolations cannot be made, or that it's not even something that y'all have to consider at all. Like, the idea that Black people change skin colors as if we're chameleons in pain or sickness is far too common and comfortable an idea with the implication that is "I dont think you are human like me". It makes me sad.

I'll let others answer your question, this time, though, so you can get that feedback!

How could she take him to an event like that? I can't believe she did that when Luke should have been the one she went to this event with seeing as it is a nomination for a scene they are both in and one where Luke was incredible in. Having been overlooked and also undermines her work in Big Mood! This isnt even meant to be me taking into acct that they are married! Dont they want to go out for a night together? I am not even going to get into the stuff after. I can't wrap my head around what they are doing. It really felt like we were nearing an end with A/As family pushing so much with the fake timeline cyprus picture and looking forward to J getting close to starting promotion for WIFLFAG where he certainly will be asked about his sexual identity or his relationship status. Then we get her bringing J with her to something is supposed to be about her and Luke's work? Make it make sense.

A little reminder. "If I’m lucky, I’ll have a friend coming with me." - Nicola Coughlan for Harper's Bazaar (She loves taking friends to events = JD is a friend.)

About Nicola bringing JD the other night. Have you thought that maybe it might be because the DNA obligations haven't been completed yet? They won't be hard launching until all the obligations of the DNA contractual agreement have been met.

On the other hand, there is a chance they have been completed & they are now having to quickly do some stuff they need to do for the post launch time. But this time it's not on Luke if he has completed his side. Nicola likely wanting to take some of the heat off her hubby. I'm sure Daddy Luke was overjoyed to have one on one Daddy/Baby bonding time with BN. The BAFTA TV nominee PARTY (Not the actual awards, it WAS the same as the BOSS event.) was so a copy & paste of the BOSS event in numerous ways. It screams them getting their ducks in a row at least to me it does. Both of them have had their times of getting it done. I think Nicola even says something close to what Luke said to A at BOSS to JD at that party if I'm not mistaken. Again, so very much the same.

I know that it's frustrating to have to see all this when we want to see truth. To see the real love story brought out into the light, but we have to try to be patient. I know it's not easy at times. It's just that we don't know what is going on BTS. We have to trust that Luke & Nicola know what they are doing, what they have to do to get it done. I doubt they would want to drag it out any more than they absolutely have to.

& finally, yes, I agree with you about The WILFAG press. They will be very likely bringing up JD's sexuality & relationship status in interviews. Which makes all this make even more sense. They are running out of time for them to get the copy & paste event of the BOSS event. It had to be this one due to the fact that Cannes wouldn't be a copy & she wouldn't bring JD to the actual BAFTA TV awards. It's too official. That is when it would be an utter travesty to bring her gay friend & not her hubby/co-star. I believe if Lukola aren't going to do a launch at Cannes, I believe they could do some pre-launching prepping there though because there is no way Luke isn't going to be going. It's too big of an honor for her, for him not to go to support his wife. We might not see him, but he will be there. That is where her husband belongs. Just like I'm sure he was at the TIME Gala & the Harper's Bazaar WOTY event, in the background, but not missing her special nights. Her ever-faithful hubby, love of her life & best friend.

P.S. But, guess who wasn't there on those very special nights or even with her on Christmas & New Year's Eve/Day?

hi im the same guy as before (waayyyy back) that said that gabv1el is both yuri and yaoi? idk if people remember that. anyway. new hot take/headcanon that im willing to share:

i think that all angels are intersex, to varying degrees. and it ranges from stuff that would be possible under human biology, to more fantastical/animal biology (ie capable of complete asexual reproduction if needed.) and!! i do think that the more powerful an angel is, the more control they have over their appearances, making them actually quite fluid in nature. since their gender structure is less abt gender identity and more abt social class, this just makes sense to me.

i also have like, thoughts abt how their social structures were when they were first created (predating humans and the concept of sin) and how they were much more social creatures? idk. ive spent an absurdly long time thinking abt this and if anyone ever wants the angel biology doc lmk 🫶

i dont think ill be sending in asks much (social anxiety and yknow. sometimes certain fictives i have have trouble engaging w their source) but who knows if you’ll see me around again :p (also my partner follows this blog and is gonna know this was me lololol hiii)

its now 11/12 in my game and im gambling like crazy in the palace and im here with goro akechi kills people theory: round 2

- so in his and joker's duel, the gun he uses definitely isn't the same one he uses normally. it appears more similar to the gun the man behind the slaughter used to shoot okumura (with his left hand and everything yk yk its all connected)

- as early on as the arcade he was joking about "taking joker out" (🤨🏳️‍🌈) which is exactly whats going on now with the duel and glove and all that. i think that means he's been planning to kill me (joker) for a long time, which makes sense with him lying about when he first went to the metaverse.

- so the biggest problem with this theory is that obviously the guy's mask isnt black like madarame said back in the day. i dont have a very good explanation aside from "ignore that part and it works", but i will mention it so everyone knows i didnt forget that. im also aware that when shooting okumura and in akechi's flashback the killer seems to have a vastly different outfit from akechi. my only defenses are again "go away dont ruin my theory" and also the phantom thieves can change outfits in the metaverse all the time.

- i just thought of something so MAYBE perhaps its based on cognition like our super cool outfits are in the first place. maybe he appears with a different outfit between okumura and sae's palace because, while both seeing him as a threat, okumura knows hes the killer and sees him as such while sae doesnt?? idk this part is literally all speculation i have zero proof

- ok this theory has been building up for a WHILE but i think shido's using him for political gain and ill elaborate on that. first off, i think his goal is to set the phantom thieves up as a huge threat and then very publicly defeat them to give the impression hes saving the people and get voters, effectively putting public trust in him and taking away any suspicion from the murders i think he was doing to anyone he saw as a threat before then.

- akechi works with sae niijima on the SIU (which i cant remember what that means in the slightest), which has a director who has been speaking repeatedly to someone. both of them know what the metaverse is by name, implying him and his mysterious caller are connected to a metaverse user who is obviously the killer (goro akechi is a metaverse user who's been so for at the very least longer than he lets on and is obviously the killer). siu director and the person hes talking to were very much involved with getting that principal killed. the person hes talking to is likely to be someone in power who hates the phantom thieves and that description fits shido.

- not much more evidence for that, ive been cooking up these theories for months so its really easy to forget details and take long held theories as facts when they could always be false. (example: i actually thought the casino was gonna be shido's palace for a LONG time and i was very surprised to learn it wasnt)

If you could elaborate on the health freak isms I would leave my estate and stocks to you in my will, because jeemers is, to me, the epitome of someone who survived for one reason (jeemers' being saejima (to kill him?? So normal of him)) and then, now that the moment has passed, Can't Stop Fighting To Survive even though they don't genuinely want to anymore

but there's a bunch of stuff that like... implies he's. generally hyperaware of his health especially with how *often* he brings up stuff like this. putting it under a cut bc its long

i think his obsession with exercise and having an active lifestyle is not because it lets him be a better fighter or because he's vain about his appearance, though i do think both of those things contribute to it -- i think it's because he worries about his future health. "you'll turn into a big pile of mush when you get older" like hello. are you ok. majima is all about *investment* so this is just his way of investing in himself to save himself headaches in the future. and it's not like... abnormal for a person to be conscious of this like it's healthy and everything i just. don't think majima *can* be normal about it, especially considering how RECKLESS he is about his health when it comes to everything else. it's not just the way he fights, it's the fact that he smokes and drinks like crazy too. and i think he approaches it as a balancing act, with a "work hard play hard" sort of mentality. but at the end of the day he does not live like someone who cares about his own wellbeing, and yet he takes care of his health like this? THATS not normal to me

and there's of course the. which i think hes especially weird about because he denies that he has any problems with his sight just before he says that. he's like. my vision is fine i only have a missing eyeball thats it. think im getting farsighted though. which OBVIOUSLY doesnt count as having problems with your vision, because, yknow. because it just. doesnt. dont worry about it. and he says this about getting eye surgery too

and then there's this. which

like this sounds like SUCH a stretch i know but its still interesting to me that he has a mental catalogue in his head of "health problems a person can potentially experience" ALONG WITH how to get treatment for it ("they got clinics for that kind of thing"). like hes just gathering info about that and like. its kept in a mental archive for him to access later. "i saw something on tv about that" and you remembered. because it was important to you.

similarly it stood out to me that in the first screenshots, he talks about the biological mechanism behind the health benefits, so it seems like he actually reads about this stuff, like it's way beyond a surface-level interest. (unrelated but i also thought it was interesting that he mentioned "dioxides" in kiwami when talking about climate change)

also i think these are worth mentioning here

because i think it really shows how *aware* he is of like. dangers and how he takes precautions against them. and worries about other people not doing the same. yes i know this is literally everyone in the world ever, everyone is like this, BUT. again, he's like this *despite* being SO careless about his own safety!!!! like. WHAT is going on there. it's because i think fighting is an exception for him where he *allows* himself to be reckless about this. because he isn't any other time

and i think even this line about his hair which is saying something about how *particular* he is about his appearance

*can* translate into a similar attitude about his health too, like it may seem like a stretch but when you look at the big picture he is absolutely like. neurotically *thorough* about "body maintenance" stuff

theres a lot more lines you can view through this lens of. being really fussy about his body/health/appearance. but i dont think those count as "evidence" so much as like, stuff that makes sense in the big picture. obviously lots of people who are normal about their health couldve said any of these things in conversation but the conversations with saaya end up revolving around these topics *because* majima can't stop bringing it up. so instead of seeing them as isolated lines i think its useful to think of it in terms of. what does majima *prioritize* in life, in his thinking, what does he like to *talk* about. and this is what he literally cant shut up about. so

also this is firmly in hc territory but i can absolutely see majima as like. a hypochondriac who is very strict about his diet and exercise as a way to gain a sense of control over his anxiety about his health. not to mention the "payback" aspect of it all, for the year of torture he endured in the hole where he had absolutely no agency over his own body

anyway. hope this was insightful!! also. if you want to elaborate on your thoughts about majima being someone who cant stop fighting to survive. please feel free im v interested

Also not necessarily a question sorry, but speaking of ur art I want you to know I often think about your art of kyo and akaza post canon with other characters’ kids and it makes me so insane in the best way I have so many thoughts on akaza esp interacting with kids and I just really love that art and if u have any more thoughts on that I’d love to hear them :3

YESSSS i love post-canon renkaza with children!! i think they'd be the Uncles Of All Time <3

Something I haven't really gotten a chance to explore in any of my fics yet is how Renkaza feel about children, having children, building a family, and whatnot, but before all that here's the part where I do the obligatory:

YES, I don't think children are necessary to build a family, and YES, I don't think people need to have children to find fulfillment in life, and YES, people choosing not to have children does not devalue their relationships even though society has conditioned us to think of successful relationships as culminating in the contribution of children

All that being said, I personally think both Kyojuro and Akaza might in some way like the concept of having children without any actual intent to fulfill that desire.

I think for Kyojuro it would be more so a matter of expectation bleeding into personal aspiration. He grew up expecting to have children someday, probably sooner in life than other people his age, simply because it's kind of his duty to do so as the first son of his household. I don't think he necessarily feels all that burdened by this expectation because he's Kyojuro, and all his life he's shouldered the burden of his legacy with no problem, because he must. The fact that he's gay (the way I write him the vast majority of the time) doesn't really factor into the equation because he's committed to getting married to a woman anyway and either a) keeping his sexuality to himself or b) doing a lavender marriage type thing.

I do think the idea of being a father would bring him trepidation---and note the key distinction I make here between him having children and being a father.

Kyojuro's great with children! He loves them! He really looks forward to seeing his friends' kids, and he definitely feels a pang of heartache when he has to leave them! But also, being a father? Fucking terrifies him. He is so painfully aware of all the different ways he can permanently fuck up a child because he was that permanently fucked up child, and the fear of becoming a father like his own father, however irrational, haunts him.

So yeah, I think Kyojuro has a complicated relationship with fatherhood. I also think that in a Renkaza situation, he would almost be relieved to have like...an excuse to not have kids? If his partner is a literal demon, there's quite literally no situation where he would find it appropriate to raise a child in the same house as a man who is more or less constantly craving human flesh. So no adoption, no temporary custody, no accidental child acquisition for Renkaza.

I think with Akaza it's a little simpler because I don't think he ever really considers the idea of fatherhood at all. He, too, probably has a complicated relationship with the concept of parenthood in general because of how he lost both of his parents as well as Keizo, but the time and distance from "Hakuji," the person he used to be, afforded to him by his demonhood, dulls those thoughts and feelings. They feel like they belong to someone else.

It probably isn't until some sort of post-canon Renkaza situation where he even considers the idea of kids and family again because, well, he's made it out now, right? What's he supposed to do? Everyone around him is moving on in their own way, and for most of them that way is getting married and having babies. But he's a demon, and he's with a man, and so that's at least two reasons why he can't do that. Nevertheless, the life that he sees the people around him living is a life that he came so, so close to living himself. That should have been him, if Koyuki and Keizo hadn't died, and everything that happened afterward hadn't happened.

IDK I have lots of thoughts about this. I think Akaza and Kyojuro both think a lot about this too, especially as their acquaintances and friends (Kyojuro's friends, rather---and that's another thing to think about, the fact that Akaza is really, really alone post-canon and he doesn't have anyone to call family except Kyojuro) get married and start families and such.

ANYWAY ONTO HAPPIER THINGS

I think Kyojuro and Akaza would be great uncles. Kyojuro would make a point to be actively involved in the lives of his friends and their families maybe just because he doesn't want them all to drift apart, and unfortunately a lot of people do drift apart when they start families of their own.

I think Kyojuro's probably a pretty frequent visitor to the Uzuis' place? And at some point Tengen or one of the wives would probably very gently remind him that he's welcome to bring Akaza too, if he wants to, because he kind of looks pitifully lonely just visiting their bigass house with their bigass family all by himself. And then Kyojuro would probably bring Akaza around some evening, and it would be very weird and tense at first, and then as the visits continue happening it would be less weird and tense. Also, Akaza's great with the kids because they have boundless energy and so does he! Something similar probably happens with the Kamaboko squad and their families too.

From Akaza's perspective, he's probably just reluctantly tagging along at first (to the places where he is welcome...) but he find himself pleasantly surprised by the fact that he actually enjoys hanging around these people and their kids. He especially really likes kids; he likes knowing that he can choose to be gentle and kind even after....you know, everything. Also, he doesn't care when kids ask him weird or invasive questions because he'd much rather have that than people tip-toeing on eggshells around him all the time.

I could continue this post by talking about how Renkaza might interact with Senjuro's family, but I think I'll stop here because this is uhhhh 1,015 words long

No idea what Ziva Week is but i love these headcanons so imma reply to them

i always thought Ziva was part mizrahi, part sephardi, mostly because she does not look ashkenazi (yes i know Cote de Pablo isnt ashkenazi jewish so it wouldnt make sense for her to look like that but oh well). Partially Yemeni fits in with the Mizrahi part.

i dont think thats why she speaks spanish, because she doesnt have the iberian spanish accent (again, makes sense because Cote de Pablo doesnt but oh well). I think she learned it in school and that she’s always had a knack for languages. I always assumed she learned hebrew as her native language and french and arabic in her early years (maybe she went to a bilingual french primary school?). French cuz her french is better than her english as she once said on the show so it would make sense to have started young with that language. Arabic i think she picked up from Ari/maybe she had some Palestinian friends through him

Next im gonna reply to several points at once cuz theyre all linked: yes, i think Ziva wouldve wanted to be a dancer, yes, i think the whole family wanted to protect Tali’s joy and innocence, yes, I think her mother was depressed.

And i think thats indeed why she gave up dancing and complied to her fathers expectations. Because of elis dominant personality and to be the best possible daughter for her mother and because like you said, if ari and ziva followed their fathers planned path, tali could pursue the arts.

all of her family either died when she was still rather young or ended up betraying her in some way, and that seriously fucks a person up. I totally understand all her commitment and trust issues.

to also end happily: i think she and Tony both had a rough childhood (though in very different ways) and that they will both try their absolute bests to give Tali a happy one. Yes i totally agree with the picture taking. I also think theyre gonna be very close in general, the three of them.

Ziva David Week Day 7: Dealer’s Choice, or, Pick Your Own Adventure

(ok I know that’s not the real title but I’m going with it)

So I’m choosing this day to do this: my personal headcanons about Ziva’a past (even though for all I know the show has already contradicted them but do I care? no):

One set of her grandparents were (Sephardic) Spanish-Moroccan. (I initially used to pretend it was her mother’s parents since we know nothing about her mom but then I remember that didn’t Tony say they were buried in Yemeni or something?) That’s why Ziva speaks Spanish so effortlessly!

(Yes I know it’s because Cote’s native language is Spanish and they wrote it in but that doesn’t mean we can’t make up a backstory for it!)

(This is something that’s always been fascinating to me because my friend’s dad is Spanish-Moroccan Jewish and he could effortlessly break into one of the like 5 languages he spoke fluently when we were kids. Plus he helped with our Spanish homework lol.)

We know Ziva was a dancer, at least until the age of about 13 whenever she wrote that “I Will” list from PPF. She only ever talked about it once on the show, that time she told the suspect she always searched for her dad in the crowd when she was on stage. They never said how far along she went, but given how driven and athletic she is, I pretend that Ziva was probably serious enough about it that part of her wanted to pursue it, but she also knew by the age of about 16 that she wasn’t going to have a choice in the matter and she was going to be following in her father’s footsteps so she resigned herself to it and made the best of it.

We know what eventually became of Ari, obviously, but given that he was in her family photos (and there was that one in PPF if just her and Ari smiling), and he was in the flashbacks in “Shiva” at the dinner table (I think?), it seems like he really was a huge part of their life, he wasn’t just the “bastard son” who was spoken of in hushed tones. He was her brother. So in my head, given that he was what, at least ten or so years older than her? (I know someone out there knows exactly but I don’t care enough to look it up sorry), I like to think that Ari was kind of Ziva’s “protector” as she grew up in Eli’s home. What I mean is that in my head, when her mom and dad started fighting more seriously and openly, when their marriage was imploding, Ari would be the one to take Ziva under his wing when he was home visiting. He’d pick her up and take her for a car ride and they would just drive and drive for hours around the city with nowhere to go, and sometimes they could go the whole time without speaking, but those rides would give her respite from the chaos at home.

Because Tali was younger and didn’t understand as much about what was going on, and was still kind of malleable enough that she was going to escape relatively unscathed from it all. But Ziva was just old enough to get what was happening, to get how her parents could hurt each other and that her father was not as good a man as she thought he was growing up. And she had no one she could share this with, because again, Tali was too young, and she dared not speak it to friends, because the David family didn’t talk about their problems to outsiders. (Except Eli to Vance but that was more like a humblebrag like “lol i screw around so much on my wife she finally left me, chicks am I right?”). Ari, though, she knew he got it. (If only she knew exactly how much Ari knew about their father.)

And that is why Ari’s betrayal fucked her up even more. Because she lost her brother, but she also lost her confidant.

So in their sibling dynamic, Ari was kind of the cool, worldly older brother who would float in and out of her life, while Ziva was the people-pleasing middle daughter, the one who wanted to live up to her father’s expectations and didn’t understand her mother’s overprotectiveness over them (like when she moved away with her and Tali). Tali was a bit of a wild-child extroverted baby of the family, who everyone kind of doted on, because she was so outgoing and friendly and exuberant and easygoing.

It’s like the whole family kind of silently agreed that they had to protect Tali at all costs, to keep her lightness in tact as opposed to the darkness that lived in the rest of them. It’s why Tali was allowed to pursue music and how she was able to make even Eli cry when she sang Puccini, and would have let her study opera if she’d wanted. Ari and Ziva did their duty so that Tali could pursue her dreams for the rest of them.

I used to think Ziva’s mom was also kind of the lightness in their home in contrast to Eli’s darkness, but recently the more I think of it, the more I could see that she could very likely have been tormented by depression herself, exacerbated by living with Eli and then still under his thumb even after they broke up. Ziva has such a sadness about her, which yes is probably influenced by losing everyone she loves so early in her life, but I could also see it as classic child-of-mentally-ill parent energy, always trying to be “best” and cause the least amount of trouble, because you don’t want to do anything to rock the boat and upset your parent. You learn to be self-sufficient very early on because you know your parent isn’t physically or emotionally available to you whenever you need them, so you have to rely on yourself. And it makes it that much harder to let people in as an adult, because you’ve spent a lifetime protecting yourself.

Because Eli is such a terrible person, it’s easy to think that he trained Ziva like a soldier from birth, but I think he was a lot more insidious than that. I think he was affectionate when present but by and large was an absentee parent due to his work commitments (so he could come home and play hero when he was home, which probably drove his wife even crazier because she bore the brunt of everything), and it wasn’t until Ziva was old enough to be of more use to him (like, say, early teens) that he started planting that seed and “shaping” her to whatever he wanted her for.

BTW I don’t think Ziva’s mom hated Ari, or even resented him, because I don’t think he would have that warm a relationship with his sisters if she had, but I also like to think that and some point she looked at Ari as a grown man and realized that He Knew about Eli, just like she did. They never spoke about it, though.

(I think she probably felt sorry for him a little because she probably had more than a little idea of what Eli put Ari’s mother through, and how he was manipulating Ari.)

Wow I had more David Family Headcanons than I thought.

OK, once she is finally reunited with Tony and Tali, Ziva is going to be the obnoxious parent who takes pictures of everything all the time. Because she missed so much of her family’s life that she isn’t going to miss another second.

Because I need some happy headcanons.
