Nerdy Prudes Must Die au where Max Jagerman doesn’t become a vengeful spirit and simply passes on to the next plane of existence.

Richie and Ruth still die, though. Richie is killed during the big game when a football gets thrown a little too long and hits him in the head, knocking him off balance and sending him tumbling down the steps of the bleachers and breaking his neck. Ruth dies during her Barbecue Monologue when a stage light falls and crushes her.

Steph, Pete, and Grace are all convinced that the spirit of Max Jagerman is cursing them and are scared they’re going to be next.

And the scene changes to show Max just chilling in the afterlife. He fondly remembers the nerds that put together a prank just for him.

npmd except max walks into the school angry and confident and full of revenge on a mission to kill richie but looks around and sees how happy everyone is without him and hears everyone talking about how glad they are that he's gone and he can see that everything is clearly better now that he's dead. and he just deflates as every ounce of anger and adrenaline leaves his body. and when richie finds himself alone in the locker room ready to shower after everyone leaves, rather than hearing his name be called out menacingly he hears faint crying coming from someone where in the locker room. and he's shocked to find what looks to be max jagerman in tatters, both physically and emotionally, curled up in a ball sobbing in the corner.

I don't know what the Beanies universe is (i am intrigued, tho) but I love this. Richie singing the perfect pokerap (and he totally loves BDG, actually). Ruth singing Guns and Ships without any speech impediment like in NPMD (does she have her headgear out? or is she that dedicated to Hamilton).

I think I want to write a one-shot set in the Beanies universe, or one similar I suppose, where Max goes on a road-trip with the nerds+steph, and he and Steph are very disoriented by their nerd music.

Like, Steph never thought she'd hear her boyfriend rap the Pokemon, made even worse when it led into a song about drugs with poke-puns. Max doesn't understand the language Richie's singing in, but he knows it can't possibly be english. Neither of them can even process how fast Ruth is going at it, but he knows the other two nerds will yell Lafayette in support.
