So I’ve had some Thoughts about Comic History

So for the second year in a row, I asked a family member for a specific comic book/trade paperback and then got a different paperback that is still on my list but not the list I gave them! If it happens next year, I am not sure what I'll do with this weird pattern. Last year I asked for the Bombshells paperback and got the Kyle Rayner Compendium. This year I asked for the Red Hood: The Lost Days OR Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle between Marvel and DC and ended up with Fifty Who Made DC Great. With that I guess I'll say I've been slowly sticking my toes into comic book history, and while Fifty Who Made DC Great isn't really a history book, it was made to celebrate DC's 50th anniversary. It still gave me quite a bit to think about.

Fifty Who Made DC Great didn't really give me anything new history-wise that wasn't on DC Comics' Wikipedia page, specially since the book came out in 1985 but i still think it was an interesting way of telling DC's history but focusing on the people, and companies that made DC what it is (Or was back in 85). Of course at the top of the 50 are DC's original publisher and owners back when DC was National Comics Publications then you have Superman and Batman's creators. But the first one that kinda of through me for a loop was Warner Publishing Services. I guess when I read Fifty who made DC great I was thinking strictly in terms of people, but I can see why this was included. It would be a bit mess to go into the relationship between the sister company that probably no one soul is directly responsible for and with out a distribution company a comic's growth would be pretty stunted. What also is interesting is that it included Fleischer Studios, the people who animated the 1940s Superman cartoon. They also mentioned the Licensing company for DC's merch, and some other companies as well as The Superman Peanut Butter. And I feel there are good reasons for all of these inclusions because these are all miles stones they groups of people are responsible for specially when looking at DC's animations. It's also an important recognition of how multimedia DC is now, and how they where able to make money and distribute their products. It's a more technical appreciation, but isn't all their is to DC's history.

I think my favorite of the 50 was Lynda Carter, the star of the 1975 Wonder Woman TV show. Mostly because of the quote: "She wanted to be Wonder Woman." There is a throughline of passion there that ends up in a lot of the 50 entries, people doing this because they just loved it. They love these characters, stories, and the art form of comics. Hell, they even mention Jerry Bails, one of fandom's forefathers. The 50 doesn't just commemorate DC's writers, artists, and publishers. It's also about the people who shared in that passion and love and maybe a bit about the companies that helped them keep doing what they loved.

Why I've really been getting into comics history and American comics history, to be specific, is because it's a history of pure love for the craft. To step away from DC, Marvel, at one point, was just a handful of people just barely making it by. But they managed with no small amount of talent and skill and, well, charisma. And it would have been so easy just to stop. But they didn't, and on the DC's revival of comics, Marvel rose up. That kind of thing only happens with a real fire and drive.

I guess that sort of brings us to today, in the week we got an amazing-looking Superman trail and a very strange Harley Quinn run. I'm still very hopeful because it's clear to me there are still and always will be people within the field that still have the passion for the art form.

Katsuki laminated his blood-stained all might card and uses it as a keychain so he always has it with him, because besides the fact that it symbolizes his admiration and dedication to all might and his childhood dreams/goals, it's also a reminder of his perfect victory during the war❤️🥹

This is my favorite hobby~♥️

As long as I’m still interested in the things I make, then I’ll still share whatever I draw into this space :)

It’s nice to have other folks interested in the stuff I create because it’s exciting and fun to chitchat about it. But that’s all just bonus. I’m gonna make whatever I want whenever I want, no matter if others are interested in it or not lol

#I know that it used to be a rareship before episode 5 #but even after ep 5 #I got so many messages or comments across platforms that were along the lines of ‘boo radioapple boo!!’#but I just kept at it because 1. i was now a possessed woman and 2. i liked writing n drawing radioapple #I’d also get messages when I draw radiohusk like ‘ew mare is pro ship’ and after I learned what that meant #those disinterested folks still weren’t gone stop me lol #toxic yaoi is good shit #anyway all this to say everyone should just have fun with their hobby #I think if I had 2 followers I’d still post just as much #but the quality of my art would probably be pretty bad LOL #a huge reason why I started feeling motivated to improve was because really talented hazbin artists followed me #and suddenly I was like *OVERDRAMATIC ANIME GASP* ‘I can’t let them down…’#haha no but there is something about having an artist you admire start to follow you that makes you like ‘I must get stronger’#this is fun in its own way haha #i do try to keep that element from making me feel pressure tho #I mean yall have seen my chicken scratch doodles #ight enough rambling it’s 3am #(I went to bed too early T_T)
