Not to be contrarian but when exactly in RE4R does Leon flirt with Ashley? I did see her flirting with him but never the other way around? And he never responds to her flirting as far as I know. I don't hate the ship or care about shipping and I do like Ashley in the remake but I saw their relationship as a developing friendship and would love to see her again because Leon needs caring friends like her in his life. I do agree with you though that they're not sibling coded at all, anyone who pays attention can see that.

I feel like I've answered this literally so many times, so I'm going to actually flip this on you. Tell me when you saw Ashley flirting with Leon, because I didn't catch it. I saw moments where she lets her obvious crush on him slip out, but I never caught her initiating open flirting with him like he does to her -- because those actually are different things.

The closest thing I can think of is the "I think you'd look pretty dashing" line, but that's mild at best compared to some of the shit he says to her.

I think people underestimate how simultaneously reactivating and healing that Slay the Princess can be.

The game is unabashedly anti-abuse, and deconstructs various unhealthy dynamics and behaviors through beautiful, reality-distanced plots.

The characters are shaped by their trauma and forced to interact the best they can under the circumstances, and depict a lot of deronanticization of things like rescue, love at first sight, victim blaming, post-victim lash-outs, and white knighting. It’s an extremely helpful tool of showing what really happens when you bleed out for someone else, push back your feelings, or project onto others.

But it also shows that pain in healthy dosages is a part of being human. You can move on if you’ve hurt as a result of being hurt. It doesn’t define your future. And sure, not everyone will forgive you. Many actions taken simply aren’t justifiable under any means, and the game calls you out for it. You can move on while changing your actions, or else get worse from it if you so desire. It’s extremely human.

Phew, the holiday break is officially over! Though I did get a few days to truly relax, the last couple weeks have been incredibly busy and exhausting, filled with long drives to see family and other get-togethers for the holidays, all while testing out the next increased dose of my ADHD medication (we're up to 36mg babyyy!) And with my tattoo shop relocating at the end of the month and my seasonal position at my secondary retail job ending... yeah, 2025 is definitely off to a crazy start!

But I'm glad to be back in my element creating Rekindled! It's certainly a constant in my life that I'm happy to have because even when life gets crazy around me, I know that I still have this amazing little project to lose myself in. Thanks so much to those of you who joined in on my stream to keep me company while I blitzed through the rest of this episode <3 I'm so grateful and excited to move forward into another year with you all!
