The twins and their starters may have grown slightly taller, but their love of shenanigans have tripled, no, quadrupled in size.
On that note did you know Eelectrik has a glow animation?? Perfect nightlight eel. Absolute gold standard for creature. Click here for the masterlist!
Bonus shitpost under cut ft @birdsaretoddlers’s incredible take.
(plus a fanfic drabble that birds did while we were discussing in chat! Check out their funny writing @birdsaretoddlers) “Lam lam pentttt. Lam.”
“Language. I am not calling them that. This is a civil discussion about the capacity of a 284 Berkshire’s firebox, not a playground argument.”
“Lammm Pent.”
“If you possess my phone I will have to put you in time-out in your ball, and neither of us will like that.”
The argument over a literal online flame war was cut short by the door flying open, one of the hinges breaking off with the force and flying somewhere into the aether, never to be seen again. Or at least, not without a strong magnet.
Emmet stood there, proudly, holding his newly-evolved Eelektrik, his grin a mile wide. Ingo picked his heart up out of his femoral artery, where it had lodged itself, and gently removed Lampent from where she hid, hanging over his shoulder. Emmet stood there, eyes twinkling, clearly ready to perform the coveted Bit. Ingo opened his mouth, got halfway through a word, and his twin took the proffered delight of cutting him off.
“I am Emmet and I discovered something INCREDIBLE. INGO LOOK.”
Ingo looked, because what else was he going to do? He would allow his twin to complete his circus act, it was only proper and polite. Eelektrik trilled with delight. Emmet twirled like the best of Nimbasan runway models, clearly wrestling his eel, cooing platitudes to it as he writhed and squirmed to get it into position.
“Me beautiful slimy baby, my beloved pool noodle, my beeesstt conductor!~” Doing something that could generously be called ‘dislocating his shoulders’, Emmet managed to get his eel flipped up and around his neck. He flopped forwards, bonelessly, tipping his hat and giggling madly. He was grinning harder than normal. Ingo was a little scared.
“But now, Eelektrik can do MORE. OBSERVE.”
He threw his shoulders back, standing up as tall as he could, somehow not throwing himself ass-first onto the floor as the fifty pounds of eel he was currently deadlifting remained stationary over his neck. Emmet’s arms flew upwards and out, rocking back and forth in jazz hands. Eelektrik frilled its fans, made another happy little buzz and-
"Eelektrik boa."
“DRAGONS ALMIGHTY. THE EEL GLOWS.”
There it was, clear as day. Eelektrik flashed it’s spots in natural bioluminescence, blinking like a neon sign. Bright beautiful yellow and clearly charged, Emmet’s hair stood on end, pushing his hat an inch off his head. They blinked in a rhythmic, pulsing manner. It was almost hypnotizing to watch, in a way. Ingo snapped back to reality, realizing his mouth had dropped open and Lampent had ceased questing for his Pokedex. Recognizing Emmet was looking for a response, he threw his arm out in a thumbs-up so fast his arm hurt, snapping his suspender against his neck.
“Brrravo! Ten out of ten! Majestic eel scarf!” He praised, Emmet’s expression only growing further full of himself and his achievement, which was well deserved. Lampent echoed the sentiment, flashing back at Eelektrik in response.
Now that both Pokemon could glow, they’d never have a problem in the caves again!

HI there, hate to bother you but i was wondering if you could do the amazing digital circus head canons for a gn! reader who acts a lot like ena
if you have never heard of it you can check on the ena wiki but i would really love if you did something like this so thanks
TADC x ENA type!GN!reader
typically i would do all the characters in one post, but its starting to get late and tumblr wont let me save half answered asks in my drafts for some reason TToTT so im gonna split the cast in half, if you want the rest of the characters you can send in a second ask so i can remember to do everyone else :0! also my apolocheese for any personality mistakes, i think i watched ena a long time ago but was confused/didnt watch the whole thing so uh uh!! relying on a character wiki for this (on that focuses on season 1 so uh uh, idk if that will impact anything) little bonus bonus incorporating enas color thing into this cuz uh we can say its digital world stuff ooo that gives me an oc idea; oc whos like the mayor from nightmare before christmas who has a spinny head/face thing that relates to their emotions
CAINE:
caines is going to be shorter because hes just your number one fan regardless of your personality, in fact he probably has a silly shirt with your face on it somewhere
will do everything in his power to make sure youre happy and content, and will do everything to cheer you up when you switch over to your sad side
takes you to wherever it is that he 'sleeps' when you get overwhelmed by stuff and keeps you there until both of you are sure that youll be okay and your blues are long gone
you and him easily match energies, sometimes he will even try to one up you with using fancy intricate words
POMNI:
writing pomnis part first but oh funny is it that pomni and ena have the same VA
anyways
absolutely loves you, but she is so so worried about stressing you out and switching to your 'sad form', tries to (often times unsuccessfully) cheer you up
honestly you both need a break, things in the circus are hectic and insane, and considering pomni just got here she is going to need your help to get used to things
not much to be said since i think pomni is another character i struggle to write
JAX:
initially teases you for how fast you switch up, its almost like gangle being more upbeat with her comedy mask and more sad when its broken
tones it down a little when you explain you cant really control it whereas gangles case is just her being more confident with the comedy mask (at least thats my hc)
sometimes give you weird looks when you use an unnecessarily long set of fancy words to describe something mundane
bro is fighting the urge to mimic it
surprisingly does the kind thing, he takes you off to the side when something stresses you out so you can have a minute to compose yourself
RAGATHA:
optimistic sweetheart meets ray of sunshine, you two are an unstoppable force of good and kind of rub off on some of the others
similar to jax when you get stressed out or upset about something, usually when its an in house adventure, she sweeps you to the side and helps calm you down. she probably knows some breathing techniques, i think
ignoring the fact they probably dont need to breathe but thats asides the poin

Part 2 Buggy the Clown x Reader : A Hostage Situation
Part 2 of Buggy the Clown x reader where the reader gets taken hostage.
☆☆☆
NOTE: Link to Part 3.1 - Link to 3.2 is listed on 3.1 Description.
–
You started to come to your senses as the sound of circus music sang in your ears, and the noises of others cheering and talking amongst themselves became clear around you. You groaned and tried to open your eyes, but your vision was blurred, which made the room itself seem to spin. You tried to stretch out your arms to steady yourself, but you realized your hands were bound together above your head rope tied to what seemed like a wooden wall and platform. Your ankles were also tied together, making it difficult to move your legs at all. You closed your eyes again, only to be interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Hey, sleeping beauty, wakey wakey-"
The pirate captain was in front of you, his gloved hand tapped your cheeks harder than you would have preferred, but it caused you to grit your teeth before you opened your eyes again. The pirate captain noticed you opened your eyes before he jumped back in an over dramatic display of giddiness and clasped his hands together.
"Finally! Thought you'd just sleep through the rehearsal, huh?"
The room stopped spinning long enough for you to get a better look at the man who had taken you hostage; his orange coat and hat were missing but instead he wore a red and white striped bandana, had a painted on red smile, crossbones across his forehead, and a large, clown-like red nose. The captain's giddiness was quickly replaced with an annoyed frown before he approached you again. His face was inches from yours as he seemed to be studying your face.
"Thought you could be sneaky around me, the great Buggy the clown? Did you think you had a chance against us with this?"
Buggy held up your knife before he took a step back and chuckled. Suddenly he threw the knife at the wall you were bound to, the knife stuck into the wall next to your face. Your eyes widened, a scream got caught in your throat as you stared wide eyed at Buggy.
His wild laughter filled the room, "You should see the look on your face! Ha! Now that's funny!"
He wiped a tear from his eye before he grabbed the knife from the wooden wall and started to tap the handle to his chin, "you know, I was going to have the other freaks use you in their side act tonight, but I've changed my mind. I have something better planned."
You looked at him, your voice finally returned, "what…" you swallowed hard, "what do you want with me?"
Buggy pointed the knife under your chin, before he trailed down your throat, and stopped at your chest. The expression on your face was a mix of fear and uncertainty of what this clown pirate wanted from you.
"If I told you, that'd ruin the surprise." Buggy whispered, his eyes piercing into yours.
There was an eerie moment of silence between the two of you. After he moved the knife away, you jolted forward and tried to tear yourself out of your bindings, even though it was useless.
Buggy recoiled back from you pretending to be shocked before he grabbed your chin to force you to look at him, "so you have some fight in you after all… good."
He let go of your chin and turned on his heel away from you.
He started to walk away, "Curtain call is in one hour."
You watched Buggy walk away and as soon as he was out of sight your body slumped in the bindings as you cursed to yourself. This was not how you planned your day was going to go, not in the slightest. However you realized you were being held hostage by Buggy the Clown and what seemed like being forced to perform as part of his circus pirating act.
Time dragged slowly, and no one paid any attention to you. You had an hour–or so you hoped–to think of a way to get out of the situation. You tested the strength of your bindings again, and as you thought, they were a secure knot. However, the wood was rough against the rope. If you could weaken the rope with the wood, then maybe you could escape whatever Buggy had planned for you. It was worth a shot, so for the next hour, you rubbed the rope binding your hands together against the wood.
You were not sure how much time passed until you began to see Buggy's crew scattering about everywhere. You were tired and visibly sweating but you were not about to give up, not now. Using whatever strength you had left, you pulled and the rope crackled and tore apart. Your arms heavily fell down in front of you now free from their binding. Without wasting any time you bent down and tried to untie the knot holding your ankles together.
As the knot became loose enough to move your legs apart, you heard footsteps rapidly approach you. You quickly gathered together the torn rope bindings from earlier and made it appear you were still bound to the wall. Your heart was beating so hard and loud you thought it was going to burst; you held your breath to try and calm down. The footsteps stopped behind you before the wooden platform started moving. You were calm on the outside but screamed on the inside. You had to make sure you kept your balance and did not give yourself away as the platform moved over the uneven ground.
You were pushed to the center ring of the show. The spotlight was on Buggy as he laughed and held up a bunch of knives. You looked around and saw all of the townspeople in the audience, as well as an "applause" sign being held by one of the pirate crew. It was not long before Buggy's attention was turned towards you. His voice rose as he extended a hand.
"Give a round of applause for our newest act! Hand picked for your entertainment!"
The "applause" sign was raised as whispers were heard with the unenthusiastic clapping from the audience. Buggy grinned before beginning to throw daggers at the wall behind you. Each knife hit in a different spot around you but missed hitting you each time. You were emotionless, which started to irritate Buggy.
After he threw his last knife, he turned to face the audience, which was when you decided to act. You dropped your arms, grabbed one of the knives stuck in the wall, and threw it back at Buggy. The audience gasped as the knife barely missed Buggy and pierced the ground a few feet in front of him. Just as fast as you had thrown the knife, Buggy's detached hand was clamped around your throat, choking the life out of you.
"Well… well… well… isn't this a surprise."
Buggy's words oozed slowly and dangerously.
"You didn't tell me you were such a great escape artist."
Your hands clawed at Buggy's hand on your throat, but he only tightened his grip. He walked closer to you with an amused expression, and his eyes locked onto you. Once he reached you, his hand attached back to his arm before he pushed you hard against the wooden wall. You groaned and let your arms fall to your sides. The impact made you see stars for a moment before all you could do was stare at Buggy, and he stared right back.
His grip on your throat loosened, "I haven't figured out if you're that smart or just that plain stupid." He turned his head to the side and hummed, "Still," he paused and clicked his tongue to his cheek, "someone with your-" Buggy made hand gestures in the air, "-skills could be useful, entertaining even…" Buggy stopped inches from your face before he whispered, "So, what do you say, join my crew?"
You were shocked; did managing to escape actually save your life even if that meant becoming a circus pirate? You narrowed your eyes at Buggy but nodded.
Your voice was strained, "Fine. I'll join."
Buggy looked more amused by the second before his voice got suddenly loud again,"Huh? I can't hear you, what was that?"
His ear detached and flew close to your mouth.
You grit your teeth, "I said, I'll join your crew."
Buggy released the hold on your throat as you gasped for air and coughed. Drained from everything that happened to you today, you slumped to the ground on your knees. Buggy's ear reattached as he turned to the audience and bowed as if his performance had ended. The spotlight turned off, and the lights in the tent lit up. The pirate crew began to clean up. Buggy looked down at you before roughly pulling you to your feet. You awkwardly stumbled out of the knot that was holding your feet together, which caused Buggy to click his tongue.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. You're gonna have to work on that. No use just freeing your hands when you'd trip over your own feet." His smile turned to a frown, "Mohji!"
A man with a white fur top and teddy bear hat scrambled to where you and Buggy were standing, "Y-yes Captain?"
Buggy pushed you into Mohji, "Go get them cleaned up. Starting tomorrow they'll learn what it means to be part of the Buggy pirates."

wooyoung tarot reading
public persona vs real personality
do I have his energy permission to do and share this reading? queen of wands
in public
hypnotizing is the word to describe what wooyoung goes for; childlike (childish), immature, hard to ignore, messy - fun, entertaining, funny, never a dull moment, makes you wanna re-watch his content multiple times. bad, dangerous - sexy, captivating, impressive, killer moments (literally the 10 of swords), he wants to kill with looks, and skills (dance, modeling, body, literally his eyes, etc). out of all ateez members tho, he seems to be the one to try to look most unavailable (the devil reversed), he acts rude, sassy and sometimes distant, because he is the dangerous dude, the bad boy. but never actually too harmful, he's approachable, more like a best friend you're secretely in love with, that you're so close he doesn't even care what he does around you, he's a menace and if you try hard enough you can actually turn your feelings into reality (lmaaaaao). he tries to look super inner confident, like others’s opinions really don't matter to him, he just doesn't listen and they can never get to him, you can't force wooyoung to be or do anything he doesn't genuinely wants to, he's wooyoung, he's the synonym of self control. if he gets bothered, you'll get sliced, he's dangerous and you guys are close enough that he can just show it when he's uncomfortable. big party, big social life, a man of the night, trendy and cool, in with the kids
in privacy
dude's so chill and casual, familiar, literally giving the vibes of a big family that lives nearby each other. he's like so much more introverted, not only did I get the hermit but the 4 of cups at the same time. you see wooyoung quiet in the back during interviews? that's genuinely how he is casually, just vibing in his own head, in his own world. he doesn't move much, he likes things to stay the same forever and ever, if possible, he likes what he already knows. he's a very polite dude, "excuse me, please and thank you" seem to be natural part of his vocabulary, he treats people fairly like how they treat others, actually. very protective of his kind, would kill for those he loves, big big heart. he's not as flashy with his money or physical appearance, like how his style is mostly casual and comfortable gym clothes or how he spent years with that old ass iPhone 5 just because it still worked 😭😭😭☝️I don't think he keeps a lot to himself, he seems to give away his stuff to family and really really close friends, he doesn't care that much about being socially powerful, he likes genuine connections with those that are similar to him (example, moving from a company with a big name to follow a friend because he's genuinely happy with little things and moments). I think he's pretty quiet and private in general and very traditional for SURE, like "there's a proper way to treat people and exist in civilization". hobbies would include quality time with friends and family, arts like pictures, drawing, paintings, cooking, games. he loves company.

Regret
I feel so disgusting. so pathetic I could ever exist in humanity. Sometimes I think of how people could even view me as human if they ever saw my mind. If the family I was thrown into opened up my head, they would die from the disgusting horrors building inside, fantasies I wish to have to expel what monster was born. I can feel my horns on the inside, my 8-foot tongue, and my devilish features built into the girl. The weird girl with friends who wishes she left—the girl we all kind of hate but don't talk about enough to really care. I sometimes feel like the unused gym membership of people, so disgustingly annoying to be hurtful yet not enough for people to take the effort to stop talking to me. I feel worse with others than alone. When my mind takes over, I stop being a person and say what I want for attention, and to even think I could be human is funny.
Human? Humans have emotions; they can care. It's obvious that I must not care for anyone in this world. You see, if I did, I wouldn't be here; I would be at a party and would be having fun, not alone in my kitchen. I'm typing a pity-party letter to myself like I'm insane. I think I'm kind of insane—just enough to be this pathetic but not enough to get sent away. The idea of board school is intriguing; it sent me away, trash off to another state. To be abused and disemboweled as I speak out of turn, to cut my toes off every time my voice is slightly louder than necessary. Yet among the worst, I can be a trouble. My voice is a work of nightmares; my smile reeks of evil; and my eyes are sinister.
I AM A MONSTER
the type you find in circus cages. 2 sizes too small. To be pitied and laughed at, throw your popcorn as I walk the tightrope of shame. A show made for humans, The Human Race, was designed to laugh at such vomit-inducing animals. The human race was designed to laugh at me. To wish to be loved, to wish I could function, I wonder what such a gift would be like. I talk with a never-ending mouth of dark secrets that are too unbearable to hold. So I dream.
Dreams
Dreams take me to places I have never seen, like boyfriends, friend groups, and love. Love drives the world either through desire, lust, or happiness. The absence of love kills sadness and grief. But can you be sad if you never had love to begin with? To feel empty among the empty, to be alone among the alone. To function as an empty vessel, mimicking the voices of others, combined to become a fake. The puppet wanders around. Have you ever seen a human with no heart, brain, lungs, or blood? I feel no emotion other than pain and a desire for more. Which is why I dream of abuse and the thrilling pain of abuse. Physical, mental, verbal, social, and financial. Power held over my head as I played with my puppet strings. I don't want to be slapped, and I don't want to be punched. I want to be degraded and have blood spill. I want to watch Bruises every day. I desire to see my juices fill the floor on the white tiles as spit hits my forehead and my vision gets blurry. I wish to be the wife; they all have pity for marrying the wife beater. I wish to be the reason the 6:00 a.m. calls from the police are made. I wish to be made into a pet. yet to never leave, knowing if I did I would be empty again. If I'm not abused, I speak the devil's tongue of torment. Ruining my life gives me guilt. I can't hold any more; my shoulders hurt. Words flow so easily out of me that I can't force them down too much, or else they leave my mouth. I need a strong man to punch me so hard that my jaw is out of place. My teeth need to fall out, and my tongue should be cut out and burned to death. I want to be forced to never communicate and let my words burn deep inside to the point where I couldn't even talk if I tried. The words I would say would be mumbles left to rot as my friends learn to work into their lives. and I act like a man would love me…
The heart
The organ that beats blood and oxygen around my body is the organ I wish to fail as fast as possible. I hope one day I either die or gain an emotional heart. The one we all have but don't. The one organ we separate from the brain beats and dances. She leaves her flowers for all to expect from me when I want them. If she visits, she gives me her rejection bouquet. The flowers that expired and consumed nothing but space. She reminds me that I'm disgusting by providing a smudged mirror… Till one day she leaves a flower, an alive one. He was born of the skies, gifted by God. He felt pity for all the dead flowers I had received. He had beauty and grace; he was a true man. I worshipped him; he gained a vase of water of purest property; she finally danced for me; every time I fed my plant or even smiled, she swayed and danced to the tunes of my eyes. I don't deserve such a flower; he was made to be watched at all hours of his life. God, I wish he was here to see all the works of art I have, all 294 in my gallery. He wasn't made for trash like me, the pathetic women of the world. The ones who live in pathetic filth and make due with pennies for funds and dollar-based appetites. He wants a pretty girl with skinny legs and long hair. The types of girls who do themselves pretty and think of their looks before their grades yet somehow end with perfect, As in every class. She who danced yet fought, she who was pretty and smart, she who was skinny and curved, she who smiled with humanity, She is a sex symbol; she is an American bombshell; she is perfect inside and out; she is someone who could be subservient to a man yet work if needed. She of dreams, she of realities unknown; she is who he deserves, yet she is not me. I can't dance nor fight, I speak loudly and it can irritate, I was not pretty nor was I smart, I'm not skinny yet my curves are incorrect, I smiled from fear and anxiety, I of average, I of ignored, I of "who is she?" I of "Ugh, I hate her." I of "Can you believe she did…!" I of insect, I of bug, and I of animal. I desire a good beating, not just two fingers; I want the entire hand, not just one soft item; break your bottles on my head; watch me bleed for men who hear my name and say who? Watch me suffer for boys who think of me once or twice. In their lifetime, to watch my flower, I would give my left lung; to hear him say my name, I would donate my arm and my kidney; to have him even talk to me, I would give up ownership of my rights and become property. The sacrifices I would make to be loved are horrifying.

Ah, a circus! That magical place filled with wonder, excitement, and the faint smell of elephant dung. Let me give you the rundown on what a circus is, in excruciating detail.
First and foremost, a circus is a place where people gather to watch other people do things that they themselves cannot do. It's like watching your neighbor mow the lawn, but with more glitter and clowns.
The main attraction of a circus is the performers, who are the epitome of physical perfection and human endurance. These acrobats, tightrope walkers, and trapeze artists have spent years honing their craft, all for the privilege of performing death-defying stunts in front of a crowd of strangers.
Of course, we can't forget about the animals. Elephants, tigers, and bears (oh my!) are often the stars of the show, forced to perform tricks and stunts for the amusement of the audience. Don't worry, though, they love being cooped up in small cages and being whipped into submission. It's all part of the fun!
And let's not forget about the clowns. These brightly-colored, grease-painted buffoons are there to distract you from the fact that you just paid $20 for a bag of cotton candy. They'll honk horns, juggle balls, and squirt you with water, all while desperately trying to make you laugh.
In short, a circus is a place where you can go to watch people risk their lives, animals be exploited, and clowns act like fools. It's a magical world, filled with wonder and amazement...or so they say.
But let's be real here. A circus is also a place where you'll spend a small fortune on tickets, only to be crammed into a sweaty tent with a bunch of strangers. You'll be bombarded with loud music, flashing lights, and the overpowering stench of popcorn and cotton candy.
And don't even get me started on the performers. Sure, they may be talented, but let's face it - they're also a little bit crazy. Who else would willingly fling themselves through the air on a trapeze or balance precariously on a tightrope? It's like watching a bunch of adrenaline junkies show off for a crowd.
As for the animals, well, let's just say that their treatment isn't always up to par. Many circuses have faced backlash and boycotts over the years due to allegations of animal abuse and neglect. And honestly, watching a majestic elephant perform tricks in a tiny ring just feels wrong.
And the clowns? Well, they're a mixed bag. Some are genuinely funny and entertaining, while others are just plain creepy. Do you really want a grown man in a rainbow wig trying to make you laugh while you eat your popcorn? I didn't think so.
So there you have it - a circus in all its glory. It may be a spectacle, but it's also a bit of a circus (pun intended). If you're looking for a fun day out, there are probably better options out there. But hey, if you're into watching people tempt fate and animals be exploited, then a circus may just be the place for you.
And let's not forget about the food. Circus food is a category all its own. Who needs a balanced meal when you can have deep-fried everything? From funnel cakes to corn dogs, the options are endless. And let's not forget about the ever-popular elephant ear - a greasy, sugary pastry that's sure to clog your arteries and give you a sugar rush that will last for hours.
But despite its flaws, a circus can still be a fun way to spend an afternoon. There's something undeniably thrilling about watching a human being fly through the air or seeing a massive elephant perform a trick. And for kids, a circus can be a magical experience, filled with wonder and excitement.
Just be sure to do your research before you go. Look for circuses that prioritize animal welfare and treat their performers with respect. And make sure to bring plenty of hand sanitizer - you never know what kind of germs are lurking around in those tents.
In the end, a circus is what you make of it. If you're willing to overlook the noise, the crowds, and the questionable treatment of animals, you might just have a good time. But if you're looking for a more civilized way to spend an afternoon, you might want to skip the big top and head to a museum instead.
And let's not forget the performers themselves. These are people who have dedicated their lives to mastering their craft and pushing their bodies to the limit. They've trained for years to be able to do what they do, and their performances can be truly awe-inspiring.
Of course, there are also the clowns. Love them or hate them, they're a staple of the circus experience. They're there to make you laugh, but let's be honest - they can also be a little bit creepy. There's just something about a grown man in a rainbow wig that's a little unsettling.
And then there are the audience members. There's nothing quite like sitting in a crowded tent, surrounded by strangers, all of you craning your necks to catch a glimpse of the action. You'll hear gasps, screams, and applause, and you'll feel a sense of camaraderie with your fellow circus-goers.
All in all, a circus can be a truly unique and unforgettable experience. It's a chance to step outside of your everyday life and immerse yourself in a world of wonder and excitement. Just be prepared for the noise, the crowds, and the occasional elephant dung.
And let's not forget the sheer spectacle of it all. A circus is a feast for the senses, with bright colors, flashing lights, and heart-pumping music. It's a chance to escape from reality for a little while and lose yourself in the magic of the moment.
But like any form of entertainment, a circus has its downsides. Animal welfare is a major concern, with many circuses coming under fire for mistreating their animals. And while the performers are undeniably talented, their stunts can also be dangerous and even deadly.
And let's not forget about the price. A family trip to the circus can cost a small fortune, with tickets, food, and souvenirs all adding up quickly. You might end up spending more on a bag of cotton candy than you would on a week's worth of groceries.
So is a circus worth it? That's up to you to decide. If you're willing to overlook the negatives and embrace the spectacle, you might just have a great time. But if you're looking for a more ethical and affordable way to spend your time, there are certainly other options out there.
At the end of the day, a circus is a unique and polarizing experience. Some people love the excitement, the danger, and the spectacle. Others are turned off by the animal mistreatment, the high prices, and the general chaos.
But there's no denying that a circus is an iconic part of our cultural history. From Barnum & Bailey to Cirque du Soleil, circuses have captured the imaginations of people around the world for generations.
So if you're thinking about going to a circus, do your research first. Look for circuses that prioritize animal welfare and sustainability. And be prepared for a noisy, crowded, and potentially expensive experience.
But if you're willing to embrace the magic of the circus, you might just find yourself transported to a world of wonder and excitement. Just don't forget to bring your sense of humor, your love of adventure, and your willingness to suspend disbelief.

"There is only one bed" "Exes forced to work together" and "Accidentally cuddling in sleep" with homeboy Dickie please <3
There were certain members of the Titans who said Dick’s superpower was being friends with his exes. Not very many of them had ill feelings for him after breakup despite everything that happened in their relationship. You tried to be like them. Kori could laugh at his jokes while he dated Barbara. Zatanna would often give him an open mouth kiss when she saw him and yet had no interest in dating him again.
But you weren’t like that. You didn’t know how to act around him. Possibly because you didn’t exactly break up normally, or at all. He just disappeared. It had been for a mission but still. He could have called or talked to you afterwards. That’s why you were mad. It was inconsiderate, you thought as you ignored the tiny voice that told you that you couldn’t be normal around him because you still liked him.
And currently you were dying because you had teamed up with Dick on a mission. Both of your skill sets matched for the mission’s needs and so this is how you ended up at the front counter of a Swiss hotel high in the mountain trying to get 2 hotel rooms instead of one. Or even just another bed.
“Madame, I apologize but there is no other room at this hotel. We are very sorry for the mix up but this is all we have. The nearest hotel is 30 kilometers north so I have very little I can do. Again, I apologize,” said the man. “It is the busy season.”
You sighed. “That’s fine. I’m tired. It’ll be fine,” you said grabbing the keys a little rougher than necessary. Dick looked at the man apologetically before following you.
The hotel was actually really nice. Very traditional with red ornamental patterned rugs and golden brown beaded board halfway up the wall. A gold chandelier hung in the front entry. A bellboy carried your bags up to the room and let you in.
The room was just as nice but tiny. Barely had enough room for the bed and a small table with 2 chairs and a tv stand. A little closet sat behind door and the tiny window with covered in thick curtains.
You tossed your bag in the closet without a care and pulled off your shoes. You groaned and stretched your toes before flopping on the bed.
“I’ll sleep on the floor,” Dick said grabbing a pillow.
“No just get in bed. There isn’t enough floor to sleep on. It’ll kill your back to sleep weird,” you said with a yawn. Dick stood awkwardly. You hadn’t thought about it but you were probably his only awkward ex and he didn’t know what to do about it.
“You sure? I don’t wanna be in your space,” Dick said tentatively laying down the pillow. You patted the mattress.
“You could sleep in the room beside me and I think you’d still be in my face with how tiny these rooms are,” you said and he chuckled.
“Yeah, this hotel is probably like 500 years old or something,” he said laying down. He was on his edge of the bed and you on yours. “Did I ever tell you that we toured out here when I was a kid in the circus?”
You turned to look at him. “No you haven’t. What was it like?”
“It was cold but fun. My mom got mad when I tried to do flips barefoot in the snow,” he said with a laugh. “I was probably 6. She thought I was going to get deathly sick from the cold.”
“That sounds exactly like something a mom would say,” you said with a smile.
“I also remember one of the sword swallowers tried to learn the language to speak to all the pretty women that came to the shows but he learned Swedish instead,” Dick said and you both laughed.
“I bet that didn’t go well.”
“He got lucky and the first woman he talked to spoke Swedish! It was pretty funny,” Dick said with a yawn. “We should probably get some sleep.”
“Yeah,” you said and the pillow felt like heaven. Your eyelids felt heavy and before you knew it, you were asleep. Hours later you woke to light hitting your eyes through the curtains so you snuggled closer to get it out of your eyes. Arms that wrapped around you tightened a little and you felt a humming noise that threatened to put you back to sleep.
Hot breath against your cheek made you move again. This time you woke up to take in your surroundings. A collarbone. Arms around your back. Legs tangled in your own. You hadn’t taken anyone home last night. Who was that? You blinked before realizing that you were in Dick’s arms.
You pulled back a little and he whined in his sleep and held you tighter. His touch was warm and comforting and you almost wanted to be lulled back to sleep with him. But Dick wasn’t your boyfriend and you needed to move. You shifted again and he opened his eyes to look at you in surprise.
“Oh,” he said. You both froze. “Sorry,” Dick muttered before moving his hands away slowly. His didn’t scoot away from you.
You looked at him and the way he looked at you stopped you from moving. It was raw and unfiltered in the mornin light and he clearly wasn’t over you. He looked down at your lips before looking back at your eyes.
“Morning,” you said softly. You looked down as he licked his lips. They looked soft and shiny. You slid your hand to his arm. Almost painfully slow, Dick scooted closer to where your lips were almost touching. You inhaled a little faster than normal.
“Can I,” he said already hold his head slightly turned. You leaned up to meet his lips. Dick’s hands went back around to grip your waist. The kiss started out tentative but didn’t take long to deepen. He tasted the same as you remember and his touch was familiar and comforting.
After a little bit of you both laying on your sides, Dick laid back and pulled you on top of him. You straddled his hips and kissed him hard. Dick made a moan against your lips and gripped your thighs. You rubbed down against him. You could feel him grow hard in his thin sleep pants. Dick pulled back to breathe.
“Fuck baby,” he panted. You huffed out a laugh. “What?” He asked and you grinned.
“Still has the same weaknesses, I see,” you whispered and he chuckled before shrugging. You ground down on him and he inhaled quickly.
“Yeah but so do you,” he said before flipping you over and pinning your hands above your head. You gasped into a moan as he nipped at the spot behind your ear. Dick smirked against your skin. “Yep the same spot.”
“Hmmm using it against me,” you asked and he nodded.
“Always take advantage of weaknesses. That how I was taught,” Dick said. He bent and sucked hard on the spot and you pulled at his hands, wanting to put your hands in his hair. Dick kissed down your neck to your collar and nipped at your collarbone. You made a keening sound.
“Not fair Grayson, not fair,” you said breathlessly and he chuckled.
“I could always stop,” Dick said, his breath was hot on your skin. You groaned and he chuckled. Dick slid his hands under your shirt and pulled back to slide it off. His fingers traced a new scar that you had gotten since the last time you had been together.
“Two Face,” you commented and he nodded before kissing the arcing curvature of lighter skin. You pulled at his shirt and he pulled it off too. He had some more scars too. A pair of red healing marks on his forearm that looked like claws you touched with your thumb.
“Killer Croc,” he said before kissing the valley between your breasts. You hummed in agreement before realizing what he said.
“Killer Croc? You got very lucky,” you said and he pulled back a little.
“Yeah. I mean, it got mad infected and I was out for 2 weeks but yeah, he could have ripped my arm off,” Dick said. He ran his hand along the waistband of your sleep shorts. You inhaled quickly.
“You’re too casual for a man that almost died,” you said.
“Yeah, I know,” Dick answered sliding his hand in your shorts to play in your folds. Your eyes closed and you forgot all about scars and Killer Croc as he fingered you.
“Condoms?” You gasped. He grinned as he kissed along the column of your neck.
“One minute,” Dick said getting up. You watched him move around the room. His boner extremely obvious in his sleep pants. He came back with a few attached together.
“3?”
“Let’s start with one and go from there,” he smirked and you laughed. That was Dick for you. Cheeky no matter what. He pushed down his pants and rolled it on as you slid out of your panties and shorts. Dick stared down at your wet pussy. He already knew from fingering you but he certainly wasn’t complaining about the sight.
Dick climbed back over you and kissed you soundly. “Ready?” He asked and you nodded. Dick slowly thrust in and you made a soft sound. He started moving and found a good pace. It was great for missionary but it wasn’t like either of you didn’t have the ability to be a little more flexible in positions.
“I want to try something,” you whispered in his ear and he looked at you with a twinkle in his eyes.
“Go on,” Dick said excitedly. You pushed him off of you and he eagerly complied. You stood up and bent at the waist and wrapped your arms around the back of your knees with your legs closed giving Dick one hell of a show.
“Oh fuck,” he whispered. Dick moved behind you. “Like this?” He asked and you nodded. Dick slowly slid in with his hands on your hips making all kinds of little noises. “You look fucking amazing baby. Truly.”
You let Dick move for a while in this position. He alternated between holding your hips and grabbing your ass to slightly spread it to watch better. It was possible he’d never been that horny in his life. It felt amazing on your part but there was something you wanted to try without telling him.
You slowly moved your hands to the floor and put your weight on one leg. And with a smirk, you lifted one leg up and Dick inhaled deeply as you lifted it up to his shoulder. He held your leg and moaned loudly. His hips stopped and he was panting.
“Fuck, you almost made me cum right then,” he groaned. His hips started moving and all of took was a little shake of your ass for him to cum despite himself. “Fuck,” he groaned while burying himself deep. As soon as he was done, he pulled out and helped you stand up. You noted a little dusting of pink in his cheeks and ears.
“I’ll get you back. Lay down,” he said and you nodded and laid on the bed. It was no time at all that he had his lips wrapped around your clit and fingers in your core as your grabbed his hair in pleasure.
“Fuck! Dick! Fuck!” You cried, completely ignoring the fact that it was 7 am and you were in a hotel. He seemed to be hell bent on making up for the fact that he came first. Your thighs shook and you weren’t even sure but you probably screamed when you came. Dick peppered kisses up your body with a smirk as you heaved in breaths.
“Like that,” he said wryly, pulling you into his arms.
“You already know that,” you answered. He ran a finger along your arm and kissed your hair.
“So this...” he started but trailed off.
“Yeah...”
“Do you wanna... try again? Us?” He asked.
“Maybe,” you said biting your lip.
“Give it a shot?” He asked hopeful. You sat in silence for a second.
“Yeah. Yeah.”
“Yeah?” He said with a smile.
“Yeah,” you answered shyly. He grinned and kissed you again. He rolled on top of you.
“Since I fucked up the first round, I should make it up to you,” he said playfully. You rolled your eyes with a smile.
“If. You. Can,” you whispered in his ear. By the end of the morning, the hotel security had come to knock on your door to quiet down.

Is there a moment from Frontier that makes you very angry? I know the opinions about Zoe losing because I follow your tw, so besides those
When people here say they follow me on TW I grow a bit 💀, because I think about the fact you know about my darkest side (bwahahahha), so you don’t get fooled by the pretty anonymous facade I have got on here, which is lame, I know. I should show a bit of personality, and isn’t this the best day to do it, right when an anon asks me about complaining about stuff from Frontier?
The episode I will briefly talk about is the 24th, Junpei VS the Volcanomon one, and ,more precisely, about its beginning that makes my hair stand like a cat’s fur *winking at the Junzumi cats anon still waiting in the inbox*. I have got lots of episodes from Frontier I could list because they contain moments that make me turn the tablet off and keep me from continuing watching the series, but this one is on my ✨ special top✨.
Now, that episode is very cruel per itself, since it forces Junpei to open his eyes about his miserable social condition while making him fight against his own shadow at the end. Its goal is to make Junpei realize he has got friends he can count on now, friends who deeply care about him, friends who really love him, friends he shouldn’t have doubts about✨✨✨. Well, do you want to know what I think about this?
I won’t sugarcoat anything while talking about Frontier, especially when it comes to the treatment given to the two third wheels, so hear:
I refuse to consider the Frontier kids as Junpei’s friends. That’s it.
Everyone elevates the great group the Frontier kids are. Honestly? In my head, it has never been a team, especially if I consider the whole matter under Junpei’s perception. They…Just treat him so badly???
He’s a spoiled kid, it’s true. At the beginning he doesn’t really know how to socialize in a healthy way wanting the world to rotate around him (typical only child), but even in that arc nobody ever understood how useless he was feeling, in truth. Indeed, Takuya could only think about bossing him around and demanding him to join his reckless revolution, without stopping to think, “Oh right, Junpei doesn’t have an evolution. How is he supposed to join this plan?” Nooo, absolutely. Junpei was the coward of the situation and the strange person there. I laugh at thinking about some writer stating they wanted the googleboy to be COMPASSIONATE. The circus.
Then we arrive at the disgusting scene from the Toucanmon episode, where everyone accuses him of a fucking sexual assault (because that’s what it is). And what’s the worst aspect about the COMICAL scene? That Junpei had always been there with everyone else but nobody had just noticed he was along with them except Tomoki who’s a demon tbh, because he waits for him to get humilated before finally reminding everyone Junpei had always been in the sea along with them. That scene is thraumatizing, okay? Thraumatizing for a kid who’s only 12 and doesn’t even know how to explain he’s not guilty TO THOSE HE IS SUPPOSED TO CONSIDER AS HIS FRIENDS.
And now we finally reach that initial scene of the 24th episode, where Junpei, who, -just remember because sometimes it doesn’t hurt-, had risked his life being melted by some acid substance a while before, decides to guide the group taking on the leader role. He does it in his own funny and loud fashion because he’s the goofy and hilarious boy of the series, after all, the one who gives colour along with Izumi’s cheerful attitude. The others follow him but start commenting about him in a pretty rude way, eventually mocking him.
T: “Geez. Since when Junpei is the leader???”🫤 (Actually, Takuya you’re a great leader since ,for your own fault, Kouji was going to be killed 💕)
I: “He’s just trying acting cool🤪”
* Useless dialogue about the right personality of a leader. Machiavelli entered the chat*
To: Ahahah but Junpei is so spoiled. He eats so many chocolates🤓”
Skipping the part in which I would gladly throw them off the cliff in mass, Tomoki the bully hero for first, I remember I’ve read this scene was supposed to make the audience understand now the team is closer. This allows them to mock someone of the group as much as they want because they feel ✨comfortable✨ about it.
Well, to start, I don’t think it’s that okay to mock someone behind their back. Junpei was some centimetres ahead, so the right way a group should joke about a person is to do it ALONG with them, ADDRESSING to them. What the others do at that moment is just an immature and veiled bully act, because, ehm…Did Junpei feel comfortable?
Did he? If he stopped doing what he was doing, and he was wearing such a happy face a second after that had happened, surely he was feeling comfortable. Why are you asking me about this? After all, he’s surrounded by such lovely friends.
And at the end he is feeling guily for having doubted about them???? Honestly????? Why would you, Junpei? You will just have to cope with some fatphobia soon, but that’s what true friends do, right? They are just concerned about your weight burdending the pace of an asteroid like if you were an elephant.
Ah My Little Frontier: the power of friendship is magic💕✨💕.
#junpei shibayama#digimon frontier#it feels so good to rant here sometimes#like yesterday we all did it about Fairymon’s first defeat on tw#it feels good when some show has such ✨✨✨✨ shining parts to analyze#junpei#protecting my boy Junpei from such shitty people honesly#wishing for him to outshine all of them and surrounding himself of people lovinghim#asks#yes I can’t tag decently a thread#I’ve ended up talking about more episodes but it’s fine lollone

How About a Hug, Hm? REMIX
So a few days ago I got this ask about my Elriel one-shot “How About A Hug?” because I messed up the formatting and I you basically have to to read it as a reblog. I also was really unsatisfied with the end result.
So, I did the most Feathery™️ thing every and REWROTE THE WHOLE GODDAMN THING.
Please enjoy, and know that I will go back and tag people/clean up formatting tomorrow. Right now I just need to post and 😴
——————————————————
Elain Archeron was running late.
Granted, it was only by seven minutes, which—in many social circles—was still considered well within the accepted boundaries of punctuality.
The problem was that a) being late made Elain anxious, and b) there was absolutely nothing polite about Nesta Archeron when she was made to wait, even by her own kin.
Yet another reason it had been critical that Elain arrive on time: Nesta was already likely to be somewhat hacked off when she saw what Elain was wearing tonight, and Elain had hoped to avoid any further dramatics on her elder sister’s part.
She spent half the cab ride downtown trying to convince herself that it was fine that she’d borrowed something out of Nesta’s closet (even if it had been without permission) and that she hadn’t had a choice; she simply didn’t own anything appropriate for dinner at a four-star restaurant. However, by the time the cab slithered under Trump Tower’s unsavory shadow and into Hell’s Kitchen, she’d given up pretending.
The truth was she had half a dozen cocktail dresses that would have been perfectly suitable for dinner in the West Village, even if the place they were going was one of the nicest sushi restaurants in the city. No, Elain had raided Nesta’s closet for a far more embarrassing reason: she’d been in search of a dress she hoped might finally win her Azriel’s attention.
She wasn’t proud of the absurd crush she had on the guy, but it really couldn’t be helped. He was gorgeous, and smart, and darkly funny when he wanted to be, and she’d been secretly mooning over him since they’d met through Feyre’s fiancée three years ago. God, what she wouldn’t give to have him return even a fraction of her feelings.
Apparently not her dignity, Elain thought with a glance down at her neckline.
The worst part was that Azriel seemed oblivious to her interest in him. He was always polite to her, always made a point to talk to her when he caught her hiding out on the balcony during one of Feyre and Rhys’s crazy parties or sit next to her at their big family dinners, but he’d never once given her any indication that he was in any way that he reciprocated her feelings, which should have been reason enough for Elain to pack it in and stop harassing him.
And that was to say nothing of Mor.
Mor was the friend who’d first introduced Feyre and Rhys, and from what Elain could gather, she and Azriel had a long and complicated history. It didn’t seem to matter that Mor had been dating the same girl for over a year now. When she was in the room, Az’s eyes were always on her. Not that Elain blamed him—Mor was gorgeous in a way girls like her could only dream of being. Still, there was no denying the sting of watching the guy you were interested in pine over someone else.
Given all this, Elain wasn’t really sure why she’d gone to such lengths to dress up for this dinner. Mor would surely be there wearing something incredible and couture, thereby rendering everyone else invisible to Azriel. Still, Elain was a hopeless optimist, and she’d stubbornly sold herself on the idea that if she found the perfect dress, she could finally convince Azriel that she was a woman worthy of affection, rather than Nesta’s bookish, boring little sister.
She had to admit, there was nothing bookish about her tonight. The dress was tighter on her that it was her waifish sister, and dear god it deserved a Medal of Honor for the way it managed to keep her boobs looking so perky even without a bra. She didn’t suppose Nesta would be too happy about that bit, either, so she could only hope her sister was in a good mood by the time Elain arrived.
Just then Elain’s phone buzzed, and she looked down at it and groaned. It was from Nesta.
Where the 🤬 are you?
Running late, Elain quickly typed back. Is everyone waiting?
She watched the gray ellipsis pulse at Nesta responded.
Feyre and Rhys aren’t even fucking here yet. But hurry up, Cash is already driving me insane.
Elain rolled her eyes. She wasn’t sure who Nesta thought she was fooling when she and Elain shared a bedroom wall. Nesta and Cassian, Rhys’s other best friend, ended up banging almost every time they saw each other, which—since Rhys and Feyre had gotten engaged four months ago—was fairly frequently. In fact, Cash was at their apartment making Nesta scream so often that Elain had been forced to invest in earplugs and a sound machine. From Elain’s perspective, it seemed rather pointless of Nesta to pretend she wasn’t completely hot of a guy she called “Daddy” in bed.
Elain shuddered at the thought, hoping that Nesta would end up going to Cash and Az’s loft in Williamsburg tonight instead. Though, she realized glumly, they only ever seemed to go there when Azriel was out, and the only person who seemed able to keep Azriel out later than Cash was Mor. That meant Elain’s options were either to pop an Ambien and hope for the best, or stay out and watch Az make moon eyes at Mor all night. Neither one was particularly appearing.
Elain ignored Nesta’s text as the car pulled up outside the restaurant and she wiggled out, smoothing the back of her tight dress before giving her curls what she hoped was an artful tousle before slipping inside.
Elain’s heart felt into her stomach as she took in the elegant but understated interior of the famed Sushi Nakazawa. Given the prices, she’d assumed the place would be all black granite and swanky chandeliers—the kind of place cleavage like hers wouldn’t seem out of place. Instead the place was elegantly spare and distressingly well-lit. God, she was such a prize idiot.
Unfortunately, she was also out of time, because a quick survey of the interior found that her group was already gathered at the bar, Mor, Feyre, and Rhys having showed up in the interim between Nesta’s text and Elain’s arrival.
Elain’s eyes went to Mor first, who stunned in a cardinal red lace and net sheath. It clung to her frame like it had been made for her, and despite a latent jealous she couldn’t quite contain, she was relieved to find that she at least wouldn’t look overdressed.
Elain’s stomach only wended in a tighter knot when Mor’s eyes fell on her and lit up, a reminder that not only was Mor prettier, she was also an infinitely better person than Elain.
“There she is!” Mor beamed, coming forward and hugging Elain. “I love that dress, Ellie!”
Elain braced herself for Nesta’s inevitably remark, but it was actually Cash who reacted first.
He’d opened his mouth to comment seemingly before he’d actually looked at Elain, because the second he realized what exactly she was wearing, his eyes they snapped the ceiling, as if looking at her chest directly might turn him to stone.
“Whoa, El, all dressed up tonight!”
Nesta, wholly unmoved by his attempted chivalry, elbowed him in the ribs.
“Don’t be vulgar Cassian!” She snarled before narrowing her eyes. “And that’s mine!”
Cash smirked, seeming more at ease now that Nesta was his target.
“I knew I’d seen that bef—ow! Goddamnit woman, what was that for?”
He scowled down at the dangerous stiletto Nesta had just jammed into his toe box.
“Sorry,” she cast over her shoulder, not deigning to look at him. “Did I accidentally step on your foot?”
“I’m an adult,” Elain interjected, cheeks burning as she faced her sister down. “Stop acting like I’ve fourteen and stuffing my bra.”
“They’re just boobs, Nes,” Rhys added, arm slung over Feyre’s shoulder. “Relax.”
“Watch it,” Nesta warned him, but Feyre only laughed.
“I agree!” She said, turning to smile at Elain. “And I think they look amazing.”
“If I’d have known they were going to be such a topic of conversation,” Elain mumbled, grateful Azriel wasn’t here to witness this circus. “I would have worn something else.”
“No, I’m with Feyre,” Mor said, wicked grin forming. “Breasts that nice deserve to be shown off.”
Elain wasn’t so humble that she didn’t feel herself preening a bit at that comment, even if she was still flustered by the prolonged attention. Either way, she was grateful when Cash interrupted with a somewhat sheepish laugh.
“Teenage me would be furious if he heard me say this, but can we please stop talking about boobs?”
“Elain’s boobs or just any boobs?” Feyre said with a smirk.
However, before Elain could admonish her for it, Feyre was crushing her into a hug.
“Hey you,” she said, wrapping her arms and Elain’s neck and whispering in her ear, “let me and Rhys know if you wanna stay at our place tonight; Cash already grabbed Nesta’s ass twice when she thought we weren’t looking.”
Feyre indicated the mirror behind the bar with her eyes as they pulled away, and sure enough, Elain watched Cash’s hand as it drew lazy, dangerous circles just above the swell of Nesta’s well-formed behind.
Elain groaned, hugging Rhys now as well. God , her sister was such a hypocrite sometimes.
Ignoring a lingering twinge of annoyance, Elain forced herself to glance in false realization before casually asking, “So where’s the Birthday Boy?”
“He was on his phone out back,” Rhys said, before raising a hand in greeting to someone over Elain’s shoulder. “There he is.”
Elain tried not to look to eager as she turned and drank in all six feet four inches of perfection that was Azriel Macar. He was dressed all in black, from his prada boots to the soft, expensive t-shirt fitted enough to show off his toned physique. Elain honestly had to fight not to swoon as he ran an effortless hand through his glossy sable hair, the longer pomaded pieces on top stand up for a second before falling into an artful tousle.
“Hey Ellie,” he said, gaze on her and gone so quickly that he never even had time to notice her much-discussed cleavage. Instead, his eyes flicked to Mor and held for a long, meaningful beat before he turned back to Elain and added politely, “Thanks for coming.”
“Sure,” she chirped, trying to ignore the fact that he was coming closer, and that in another second she’d be able to smell that divine Givenchy cologne he always wore. “Of course!“
She bent her head, pretending to be fixing the clasp on her bracelet as his scent hit her and she had to bite back a groan. Sweet Jesus, he smelled good. When she looked up again, everyone else was shuffling to their table and Azriel was lingering, a soft smile threatening to the reveal the absolutely devastating dimples in both his cheeks.
“Do I get a hug?” He asked. “It is my birthday after all.”
He extended his arms, and she gave a nervous laugh, accepting the gesture by stringing her arms around his neck.
“Of course,” she repeated stupidly, trying to ignore the way the muscles in his arms flexed as he embraced her. “Happy Birthday.”
At this he squeezed her a little tighter and she fought off genuine giddiness.
It was a friendly gesture, she warned herself, and it ended the minute Mor called, “Az, come sit by me.”
Elain cleared her throat as he pulled away, turning to where Mor was still beckoning. However, before Elain could get too flustered, he turned back to her.
“Shall we?” he said, indicating Elain go ahead of him. To her delight, they reached the table to find that the only two seats left were next to each other. She tried not to give her eagerness too much leash as he pulled out her chair for her before sinking into the one between she and Mor. Mor leaned over to give him a soft peck on the cheek, and he flushed.
“Where’s Emmy tonight?” Feyre asked as Mor tried to wipe the lipstick from Az’s copper skin and he battered her away, like child trying to fend off an over-bearing mother.
“She’s sick, poor little thing,” Mor said, giving a tiny pout. “She hasn’t been able to get out of bed in days.”
Elain didn’t bother to her disappointment. Emerie had been one of Nesta’s best since they’d met in college almost ten years ago, and she not only was she like family to the Archerons, she also happened to be the only person in the group who knew about Elain’s crush. Elain had sworn her to secrecy at the time, and though it would have been reasonable to assume that once Emmy knew, Mor would know, Elain appreciated that she could trust Emerie to keep her secret.
Elain felt Emerie’s absence keenly and Nesta and Cash began bantering back and forth at lightning speed. Emerie was a master at slowing the tempo of Nesta’s quick wit, making it easier for Elain in particular to feel she could keep up.
More selfishly, Elain also missed Emerie’s ability to keep Mor distracted. When Emmy was around, she was all Mor could focus on. However, in her absence Mor’s attention had reverted almost completely to Az, a fact he didn’t seemed to mind a single bit, if his growing smiles were any indication.
Still, he seemed to be going out of his way to make sure Elain didn’t get lost in the chaos of conversation surging around them, even if he never looked at her for more than a moment or two before his eyes flicked back to Mor, studying her dark brown eyes and crimson lips.
After they placed their drink orders and the waiter came over to begin explaining the omakase menu, Elain wondered if she had time to dodge under the table to throw on some lipstick of her own. Assuring herself everyone was suitably distracted she bent down, hastily uncapping the tube before looking up just in time to see Nesta brush a very deliberate hand between Cassian’s splayed quads.
Elain jerked back, banging her head on the table.
“Fuck!” she swore quietly, straightening and rubbing her head.
Nesta shot her an alarmed look across the table and Elain flushed.
“All you alright?” Azriel asked, and she tried not to bleat in excited panic as his fingers brushed the back of her head. “What happened?”
“I—dropped something,” she fumbled, cursing her sister for being such a salacious wench.
Wasn’t it enough that she and Cash were already going to keep her up all night? Did she really have to make Elain look silly in front of Azriel, too?
“Does it hurt?” Azriel said, still studying her head before letting his eyes go to the server. “Do you need ice?”
“No, no,” Elain said hurriedly, trying to regain her composure. “I’m fine.”
“Did you at least find whatever you were looking for?” Mor asked, and Elain’s flush deepened.
“And then some,” she grumbled to herself, and Cassian gave a quiet but unmistakable laugh before letting out a surprised exhale. Elain had a fairly good idea what Nesta was squeezing to shut him up.
“Should we order, then?” Mor asked, hand falling onto Azriel’s arm. “Any particular requests, Birthday Boy?”
“He’s thirty now,” Rhys pointed out. “I think that makes him a Birthday Man .”
“Birthday Old Man,” Cassian amended. “Don’t worry champ, I’ve already put some viagra in your bathroom.”
“You’re not supposed to share your prescriptions, Cash,” Azriel said with mirth, eyes sparkling even as his face remained neutral. “And besides, I would feel dead back if you needed one tonight and couldn’t find them.”
“Checkmate,” Mor purred as Cash flipped her off.
Beside Azriel, Elain was fighting not to blush again. Cash’s comment, however sophomoric and lewd, had her imagining what Azriel was like in bed. She wondered for a moment if Mor knew before dismissing the thought and the twinge it induced.
“Let’s put this poor souls out of his misery and order,” Feyre said, smiling at the server where he still waited patiently. “Maybe if Cash’s mouth is full, he’ll stop talking.”
Cassian grinned, and, after placing their requests for the chef’s tasting menu, they all settled into an easy conversation. Cash and Rhys regaled them with stories of Azriel at various ages, from the gawky child he’d been when they’d first met him to the shy teenager who’d been terrified of girls.
“Let him be,” Mor said, touching her friend’s shoulder. “He was sweet in high school!”
Rhys laughed.
“It took him a year to pluck up the courage to say three words to you,” he pointed out.
“And they were ‘here’s a pen’ in response to you asking him the time. Nice work, Shakespeare,” Cash said, attempting to muss Azriel’s perfectly styled hair before being batted away.
“I can’t imagine Az ever being awkward,” Elain blurted. “I bet girls thought he was mysterious and cool.“
“See?” Azriel said, gesturing to Elain. “This is why I sat over here.”
“Oh please ,” Rhys said, bubbling his lips. “Ellie’s just being polite. If you two had known each other in high school, we all know how to would’ve gone: you’d have had an obscene crush on her and your dreams of true love would have been dashed after she politely signed your yearbook ‘have a good summer, Adrian’, leaving you heartbroken and alone.”
Azriel gave Elain a soft smile, and her heart burst open as thousands of butterflies flitted out of it.
“I hate to say it, but he’s probably right,” he told her. “I assume high school Elain was very popular.”
“She was,” Feyre said. “Eight different guys asked her to prom.”
“I’m not surprised,” Az said, and Elain made a great show out of drinking out of her masu to avoid having to answer.
She was relieved when the food began arriving to distract everyone, if only to save her the temptation of telling Azriel that there was no universe in which she wouldn’t have been into him, high schoolers or no.
Instead discussion turned to the Feyre and Rhys’s wedding as they ate, and as final plates were being cleared, Cash took the opportunity to once again mocked Azriel for the fact the latter had lost the rock-paper-scissors competition to be Rhys’s best man.
“I lost on purpose,” he told Elain quietly, taking a sip of the Yamasaki Single Malt he’d ordered after dinner.
“Why?” she laughed, following his gaze across the table to where Cash and Nesta were now bickering about whether Rhys’s stag night in Vegas would be better than Feyre’s hen do in Napa.
“Because Rhys told me that you’d convinced Feyre to pick Nesta as her maid of honor, and no offense, but your sister terrifies me. I’d much rather be with you.”
She laughed, biting her lip. It felt so terribly like they were flirting, but she couldn’t decide if it was her imagination or not.
“She terrifies everyone,” Elain said. “And I have a feeling this won’t our last trip down the aisle together.”
Azriel only quirked a bemused brow at this, which had Elain flushing scarlet.
“Not like that! She laughed, fumbling to pretend the idea of them being together was absurd rather than her heart’s desire. "I meant for Cash and Nesta’s wedding. Don’t tell me those two aren’t going to end up together.”
“We’ll have to work out a custody agreement when they finally get over themselves and start dating properly,” he agreed. “I’m spending a fortune on earplugs.”
She laughed, and he seemed warmed by the gesture, because he flashed a modest—albeit dimpled—smile being turning back to the larger conversation.
After dinner they’d gone a cocktail bar, then an Irish pub, and finally—much to Azriel’s chagrin—a karaoke bar. Rhys and Cash spend the majority of the evening trying to wrestle Azriel on stage while Mor and Feyre sang duets to Beyoncé and Spice Girls.
Elain was content enough to sit back and simply observe the scene as it unfolded around her. It was hard to contain her giddy, dreadful anticipation when Mor left around one to check on Emerie and Azriel—besides bidding her farewell with a soft kiss on the cheek—didn’t move a muscle.
Less than an hour later, Cash and Nesta both disappeared about an hour after without so much as a goodbye. Elain groaned, hoping they’d be asleep by the time she got home.
She’d have to rally if she wanted to manage it; they would be at it for hours yet.
By three the place was clearing out, and besides them, only a few tables of marathon drinkers and a girl on stage performing a beautiful rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” remained.
“We’re gonna go,” Rhys said, arm slung around a rather drunk, giggling Feyre. “Ellie, do you want to come with us?”
Elain glanced at Azriel, who’s glass still had two fingers of whiskey in it. If she wanted a chance to be alone with him, this was it.
“I think I’ve got one more in me,” she said, smiling.
“If you mean drink, I’m in,” Azriel said.
“Oh c’mon, brother,” Rhys goaded. “Just one song. I wouldn’t even film it….much.”
“Do Beyoncé!” Feyre chimed in, and Azriel shook his head.
“You know I’d play in traffic before I ever sang karaoke,” Azriel said mildly, making Feyre laugh. "Thanks for coming.”
He rose, embracing Rhys and pressing a kiss on Feyre’s head.
“C’mon, my little drunkard,” Rhys told her. “Let’s get you to bed.”
“Let’s have sex when we get home,” Feyre said, her attempted whisper fully audible. Rhys pretended smack his forehead with his palm and a mimed, “ Oh brother ”, to Azriel and Elain before coax a still-singing Feyre outside.
Azriel chuckled before draining the last of his drink and rising. Elain pretended not to notice the way his well-tailored jeans fit his lean legs and…other parts of his anatomy as he adjusted his belt buckle and glanced down at her.
“Bud Light?” he asked, and she nodded, bobbing to her feet as well.
If she wanted a way to get closer to him that was more elegant than her increasing urge to crawl across the table and into his lap, this was certainly it.
“I’ll come with you.”
He flashed her a modest smile before indicating she lead the way. He ordered and waved off Elain’s attempt to pay before leaning on the bar to avoid towering over her. The gesture brought them nearly eye-to-eye, and Elain had to actively fight not to let hers roll back in pleasure at the bergamot and amyris wood notes in his sinful cologne. Up close Elain could see how much green he had in his hazel irises, and she wanted to tip into them and swim until she drowned.
“Did you have fun?” she said, desperate to get the conversation flowing again, and he smiled, making her stomach flop.
“I did, yeah,” he said, glancing around the bar in bemusement, as if still wondering how he’d ended up there. “Thank you for coming.”
Elain shrugged, grinning.
“You say that like you didn’t think I’d show,” she said, resting a cheek in her hand. She knew by now her expression was not her less than a swoon, though she couldn’t bring herself to care.
Hadn’t been this been her plan all along? Finally get Az’s attention long enough to tell him how she felt? Now was the best chance she’d probably ever get.
“No, I figured would,” Az said, interrupting her reverie. “Or hoped you would, whatever.”
Was that—
Did that mean what she thought it did?
Normally she would have chalked it up to wishful thinking, but the way he rubbed the back of his neck, dimples appearing as he huffed what almost sound like a sheepish laugh, had hope igniting in her chest.
“What does that mean?” she pressed, forcing herself to meet his gaze.
For the first time all night, he didn’t look away. Instead, his eyes skated back and forth across her face, as if she were a riddle he only had seconds to memorize. She watched, transfixed, as he wet his plush lower lip with his tongue before biting it almost self-consciously.
“It means I’m glad you came,” he admitted. “And that you didn’t go home with your sister and Rhys.”
It wasn’t the confirmation she’d been hoping for, and the ambiguity of the statement had her conviction waning. That could just as easily have been mean platonically, and if she pushed him and ruined things between them by making it awkward—
“Of course I’d be here for your birthday,” she said, giving his shoulder a playful shove. “That’s what friends are for.”
She couldn’t help the way her voice got stuck on the word, not when her throat suddenly began to clog with tears.
She had to get out of here, right now. Before she started crying and made things worse. She made to retract her hand but Azriel grabbed it, grip gentle but intent.
“El, don’t go,” he said, and she was surprised at the frank discontent in his normally-impassive expression.
She waited for him to explain himself before instead he let out another strained laugh, grip on her wrist easing. However, he didn’t let go entirely, choosing to intertwine their fingers instead.
Holding hands.
She and Az were holding hands.
And he—
She glanced back up to find he was studying her again, his face a mixture of terror and delight. When she gave his hand a soft squeeze, he let out the breath he’d been holding.
“Jesus, I am bad at this,” he said, reaching up to tuck a curl behind her ear. She wasn’t sure if she’d imagined it, but she thought his gaze flicked down to her lips as he continued to study her with heavy-lidded eyes.
“Bad at what?” She asked, though she’d begun to suspect she knew exactly what, even if it seemed too good to be true.
“At least my timeline is improving,” he breathed instead. “And I haven’t offered you a pen you didn’t ask for yet.”
Hoping she wasn’t misreading the situation, she let her finger trail down to trace the circular buckle of his Gucci before glancing back up at him and purring, “Do you have a pen?”
He smirked before raising his right wrist and glancing at his watch face over her shoulder.
“It’s….3:17 am,” he said, smile spreading as she gave a low sound of approval and flicked her gaze to his lips.
“Smooth,” she said, and tried not to lose her mind as he let his raised hand fall to the back of her neck and bent to kiss her.
He had almost girlishly full lips, and they opened for her as they settled into the kiss. Immediately his hand tangled in her hair so he could alter her head position slightly and get a proper taste of her. She groaned into his mouth he pulled at her lower lip with his teeth. He tasted like oranges and the expensive Japanese whiskey he’d been drinking all night, and pleasure tightened in her low belly as his tongue brushed hers. Her brought his free hand up to cradle her face, and in response she pushed closer to run her hands underneath of his shirt and down the silken skin of his back.
“Fuck,” he breathed with a heated half-laugh, nose brushing her cheek as he bowed into her touch. “You’re killing me, woman.”
She only smirked, feeling more confident now that she had before. She could hardly believe this was happening, but she was too excited about it to fully care.
“Let’s get out of here,” she said, and he bit his lip, as if restraining himself from kissing her again.
“Like to another bar?” he asked, dazed as he continued to stare at her lips.
“Like to my bed,” she said boldly. “Or yours, depending on where Cassian and Nesta ended up.”
He didn’t speak immediately, just studied her, and she panicked.
“I mean, only if you—I’m sorry, should I not have—?“
He only kissed her again in response, more gently this time.
“Please stop apologizing,” he said, kissing her jaw now before seeming to realize something and pulling back, brows synced.
“I—Jesus, do you seriously not know?”
She felt a bit sheepish at his incredulous tone and fought not to stiffen.
“Know what?”
He laughed softly, though their was a edge of self-deprecation in it that kept the gesture from seeming conscending.
“I really am the worst at this.”
“At what?”
“El, I’ll crazy about you. I have been crazy about you since we met.”
“You have?” she blurted, horror fading into genuine—if elated—confusion.
He laughed.
“Did you think it was coincidence that you and I are always sitting next to each other at dinner? That I always find you at Rhys’s dumb parties?”
“I—“ she began, still trying to decide if this was a dream or not. “What about Mor, though?”
“Mor?” he repeated, confused now, too. “What about her?”
“I thought you and she—“
He leaned in to brush his nose against hers, and she blushed at the innocent affection in the gesture.
“Not at all,” he assured her. “I did have a thing for her in high school, but I got over it after she and Cash slept together at prom. We’re just friends, I swear.”
“But she’s always touching you, and every time I see you together you can’t stop looking at her.”
At this he laughed, his smile so genuine and open she almost didn’t recognize him.
“She’s always been touchy-feely,” he said. “She grew up in Madrid, and people are just more affectionate there, I guess. And I only watch her when you’re around because she called me out for having an absurd crush on you, and I was afraid she was going to get drunk and blow my cover by telling you.”
Elain shook her head, still not quite believing what she was hearing. Reading her expression, he bent to kiss her softly.
“What guy wouldn’t be crazy about you?” he breathed. “You’re incredible.”
This seemed to break the spell, and she twined her fingers in his hair and pulled him down for another steamy kiss.
“Text Cash,” she said a little breathlessly when they broke away. “I don’t want an audience.
She couldn’t felt but feeling smug when he almost dropped his phone at those words. It felt good to know that she wasn’t the only one affected by all this.
“Cash and Nesta are at the lof—“ Az began after a minute, but Elain cut him off with a kiss.
H rose, pulling her against him as his tongue brushed the roof of her mouth.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” he said as she kissed his neck and tugged on his earlobe with her teeth, earning a low groan. “You’ve been drinking.”
She grabbed his chin so he would look at her.
“Not that much,” she said, and it was true. “And besides, I wanted this way before tonight.“
“Good,” he breathed, pressing a hand to her low back to bring her close to him. “Because so have I.”
Though they spent the majority of the ride up town and the elevator up to her apartment making out, something seemed to shift as Elain’s door clicked shut behind him, as if the gravity of what they were about to do had finally caught up to them.
Reluctantly Az peeled his lips from where they’d been glued to her neck as he took a small step back, as if to give her space.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, feeling embarrassed for how much she still wanted him even now that he seemed to have come to his senses.
“Maybe we should—” he broke off, looking somewhat guilty. “Hold off.”
She nodded, trying to keep the tears at bay again.
“Are you worried this could mess things up in the group? Because I understand—“
“No,” he said hurriedly, coming forward again, as if he could no longer stand to be away. “Not at all. I just—you’re special, El. You deserve to be taken out and spoiled.”
“Az, you just took us to a $1,800 dinner! Or did you think I didn’t see you pulling our server aside?”
Azriel opened his mouth, and she covered it with a finger.
“You don’t need to earn my affection. It’s yours already, free of charge.”
“I’ve just been—I waited so long to make my move and I’m terrified of fucking it up,” he said with a soft laugh.
“Why, are you bad at sex?”
Azriel laughed, seemed to relax at her teasing.
“I’ve never had any complaints,” he breathed again her lips, kissing her deeply again.
She gently bit his lower lip in response.
“Then I’d say you’ve gotten nothing to worry about,” she said, kissing him a third time.
She moaned softly when drove his fingers into her hair, hips canting towards her as he pressed her more fully into the door.
She could feel his body’s reaction to her pressing between her thighs, and she moaned again.
“Fuck,” he breathed onto her skin. “You are so gorgeous.”
“So are you,” she said, running her hands up the back of his t-shirt and feeling the mosaic of muscles flexing underneath. “Take this off.”
He laughed and pulled the offending garment over his head, making her groan in delight.
“God, this body ,” she breathed, running a hand down his chest and enjoying his shiver at her delicate touch.
He responded by spinning her away from him and gently dragging down the zipper of her dress until he could slip a hand inside of it.
“I knew you couldn’t have a bra on underneath this thing,” he said, voice a touch smug as he cupped both bare breasts and her breath caught in her throat..
“I’m surprised you even noticed,” she said, voice somewhat. “I wore this dress for you, and you didn’t even look at it once the entire evening.”
She laughed, the sound into a soft moan as he twisted one nipple in experimentation. When she sighed and let her head fall back onto his shoulder.
“Of course I noticed the dress,” he corrected. “You have the most perfect tits I’ve ever seen. I just knew that if I let myself look, I might not be able to stop looking.”
“You shouldn’t say that until you’ve seen them without the sorcery of underwire,” she said.
With that he spun her to face him, catching her gaze to ensure he had her permission before tugging down the top of the dress so her breasts fell free.
“Gorgeous,” he said, easing to his knees so he could replace his fingers with his mouth. “Absolutely gorgeous.”
“If I known this was going to be your reaction, I would have worn a bodycon dress in front of you ages ago,” she said, threading her hands through his hair as he dragged his teeth and tongue along her nipple.
“You don’t need some tight dress to be sexy,” he said, resting his chin her her sternum so he could gaze up at her. “I’d take you in your overalls and pigtail braids any day.”
“Is this some Pippy Longstocking fetish we should all know about?”
He grinned, rising to his feet and giving one of her curls a playful tug.
“Because as devastating as you are playing dress up in your sister’s clothes, I prefer you as you.”
“You can’t say that when I’m naked,” she said with a smile, touching his cheek.
“Why not?”
“Because I may start crying and ruin the mood.”
He cocked his head to the side, tracing her lips with a finger.
“I wouldn’t mind a few tears from you in bed. But only if it’s from you sobbing in pleasure.”
His words sent blood pooling south, the intensity cause a dull throbbing.
“Why do I feel like you could do it, too?” She asked, reaching down to free his belt as he heeled out of his boots.
“Don’t tempt me,” he said, taking her hand and guiding it between his legs. “Forget this,” he said, squeezing gently so she could feel how hard he was. “I could go down on your all night and be the happiest guy on Earth.”
Emerie had said as much once, at a drunken girls’ night.
Azriel strikes me as the type of guy who loves eating girls out. It’s why gay women find him so easy to befriend; we recognize kindred spirit.
Elain vowed to never tell the others she’d been right.
“Will you let me?” He asked, gently nudging her dressing off her hips until it came free and pooled at her feet.
“Is this a trick question?” She said, voice going hoarse as he slipping a hand into her underwear.
“Some people don’t like it.”
“I’m not one of them,” she said, he smiled, coaxing her legs around his waist so he could carry her.
“Thank God,” he replayed. “That would break my heart. Which way?”
She pointed him in the right direction before giving into temptation and kissing him again, looking to way she could feel like body reacting to hers as he held her close. Only when they reached her room—which was decidedly messier than she’d have liked considering Azriel Macar was now in it—did he set her down.
He wasted no time into coaxing her onto the bed, taking only a moment to admire the silky black thong she wore before dragging into down her thighs and discarding it.
“Spread your legs for me, El,” he said, brushing kisses to her knee as she slowly did as he commanded.
The light from the nearby street lamp made the room a lot less dark than Elain was used to during sex, and for a moment she though to be embarrassed or postpone. Then she glanced down to admire the contrast of Azriel’s inky black hair framed against the pale skin of her thighs, and she forgot what it even meant to be self-conscious as he finally put him mouth on her.
She swore at the first brush of his tongue, which was both deliberate and extremely delicate. She threaded a hand through his hair at his second stroke, the touch more intentional this time.
“Azriel,” she breathed.
She watched the muscles in his beautiful back shift at this, as if hearing her moan his name had untethered something in him. When he put his mouth back on her, it was clear he was no longer attempted to tease her. Instead he felt right to where she needed him most, refusing to relent until she tipped over the edge.
Even then he didn’t seem satisfied, it and it was only after he made her come a second time did he pull back, licking his lips before bending to kiss her.
“Take your pants off,” she demanded. "Right now.”
She felt him grinning against her neck as he peeled off of her, slowly working the buttons of his pants before sliding them down his trim hips. He wore black boxer briefs underneath, and he honestly looked like an Armani model. She bit her lip, eying the sizable swell of him through the cotton.
“Those too,” she breathed, greedily drinking in his well-defined adonis belt and the bare trace of hair above the band.
He did as she commanded, and she nearly melted. Naked he was a God, all rippling muscles and smooth unblemished skin, save for the chest piece tattoo that extended onto his shoulders and halfway down his arms. She let her eyes sink lower. Even half-hard he was big, and her belly clenched.
Wasting no time, she urged him to take her place on the bed before kneeling at his feet and putting her mouth on it.
“Shit,” he hissed, driving a hand into his hand then down his face. “Ellie, you’re kiling me.”
She looked up at him through her lashes, and he growled in approval, seeming to decide something before breaking her grip on him and hauling her to her feet. He kissed her again, and she could feel his cock as it practically pulsed between them.
She still wasn’t sure she could believe it was for her, that somehow he wanted her as much as she did him, and had for almost as long.
“Condoms,” he breathed against her mouth. “I need to be inside of you.”
She froze.
“I don’t have any,” she said, dismayed.
How could she be so stupid? Why didn’t they stop on the way home? The closest bodega was six blocks, and she knew everyone who worked there. The last thing she needed was all of them knowing—
Azriel pressed a swift kiss to her lips before tangling from her.
“Where are you going?”
“To grab a condom.”
“Naked?
He flashed her a slight grimace, “Let’s agree you won’t ask where I get it from.”
“Oh Moses,” Elain said, face flushing scarlet as she listened to Nesta’s door creaking open.
Azriel was back in less than a minute, tossing an entire box onto the nightstand as he pulled open one of the foils with his teeth, using his free hand to push his damp hair, long enough to brush his cheekbones now that it wasn’t styled, out of his eyes.
“You found those distressingly fast,” Elain said, unsure if she was amused or mortified at the situation.
“Cash is predictable with his hiding spots,” Az said, eyes hooded as he stroked himself several times before rolling the condom onto his length.
“And why did you take the whole box?”
Azriel laughed softly.
“Because I have a feeling we’re going to need them.”
Without another word Az sank to his knees again, one hand lazily stroking himself to maintain his erection as he went down on her again.
This time it only last three seconds or so before he pulled back, resting one knee beside her hip to steady himself before pulling her onto his shaft in a single wet stroke. Using her left bent leg as leverage, he adjusted his angle, smirking at her low, guttural moan of pleasure.
“Good to know your g-spot is as sensitive as the rest of you,” he breathed, and she laughed and tugged him into an ambitious rhythm.
Soon the only sound was their shared breathing, and the sliding on their bodies against one another. She came first, and he followed even before the dizzying waves of pleasure ceased. He pumped lazily in and out of her for another half dozen stroke before gently extracting from her and peeling off the condom.
She curled against him, cheek pressed to chest as her hands continued to explore. Her fingers caressed his swelling pectorals and each of his abdominal muscles before lazily venturing back between his legs. He gave a hiss of pleasure as she began to work his silken shaft in earnest, and in minutes he was fully ready again.
He groaned when she snatched one of the condoms and rolled it onto him before swinging a leg over and sinking astride him.
Her third orgasm hit her only a short time later, and she sighed when he bucked up into her before going languid under her ministrations.
She leaned down to kiss him as he ran a soothing hand down her back.
“Jesus,” he breathed, pressing his forehead to hers and swirling his hips, still inside her despite his orgasm. “That was incredible.”
She purred her contentment, feeling something even more alluring than desire swell in her chest as he discarded the second condom and tugged her into his arms, tangling their legs. He still smelled like cologne, but it had mixed with her perfume, and sweat, and the scent was intoxicating. She wanted to bath in it—in him—until she died from bliss. She listened to his breathing even out, and as she was drifting off to bed, he felt his breath ruffle her hair.
“Do you like pancakes?” he murmured. “I want to make you breakfast in the morning.”
“Really?” she said, looking at him over a shoulder and melting at the warmth in his smile, less guarded now than it had been even hours before.
“I want to make breakfast for you every morning,” he breathed. “I have since I met you.”
She smiled, nestling closer to him.
“I’d love that, but I should probably be the one making you breakfast. It is your birthday, after all. You have to let me give you something other than a bj and a few orgasms for your birthday, even if it is your dirty 30.”
Az choked on a laugh.
“Say you‘ll dinner with me, then. No family or nosy friends around, just us.”
“I think the word you’re looking for it ‘date’,” she said, laughing as his cheeks flushed before realizing something. “Or is the idea just too formal for the situation? I know we did things a bit backwards...”
“We did,” he agreed, stroking her cheek. “But that doesn’t mean I want to spoil you any less. So yes a date, if you’ll still have me.”
“I will,” she said, meeting his hazel eyes before gently kissing him. “With pleasure.”
He smiled against her mouth.
“Then that’s the only birthday gift I want or need from you.”
She smiled, feeling happy to the point of bursting when he kissed her ear and closed his eyes again.
"Happy Birthday, Az.”
His hum of contentment vibrated through her back.
“The happiest,” he breathed.

ON THE EDGE ~ Pt. 1
Summary: YN is a Detective and the partner of Gavin Reed, number one douchebag of the Detroit City Police Department. After a forced break, she comes back. She’s looking forward to working with her partner again and to getting back into her ‘normal’ life between case files and criminals. But, of course, it doesn’t stay boring for too long: Gavin seemed to be more on the edge than usual, a Red Ice dealer might be a good lead to something bigger and then, there is Connor, the friendly, handsome android and Hank’s new partner.
Added to the fact that yn has to deal with the criminal world again, she also discovers feelings she hasn’t noticed before triggered by a person she hasn’t expected.
Her life always resembled a ride on a rollercoaster.
But now, it’s a whole damn circus parade.
Characters: Gavin Reed, YN (FEMALE!Reader), Hank Anderson, Connor
Words: 2.472
Warnings: signs of PTSD (flashbacks in italics), cursing (a lot), mention of blood
"He's totally crazy. He shoots at everything that moves. It's impossible to get close to him.", yn stated. "But we have to stop him somehow."
"Stay here. I have an idea. Over there, the left spot is free. He will barely notice me.", Gavin said and pointed in the direction.
"Gavin, no!", Yn cursed as he slipped through her grip, "Gavin!", she tried again to call him back but her partner was already too far away, "Fuck!"
Gavin ran to the left side like mentioned. Yn stayed behind the hide and watched the scene concerned. She was trying to cover Gavin whenever needed. What Gavin couldn't notice was that the crazy guy had seen him.
Even if she tried everything to get the guy's attention, Yn watched in horror how the suspect aimed at Gavin who sneaked through the room completely unaware that he was the target in the line of fire.
The suspect aimed his gun into Gavin's direction and waited til he would appear on the other side of the pillar where Gavin tried to hide.
There was no way that yn would be able to stop the guy. He was too far away and behind a half broken wall. But she was convinced that she could help Gavin. That was what she did without thinking twice: she ran towards Gavin. As she reached him to push him out of the way, the suspect fired his gun two times.
Of course Gavin was cursing as he hit the ground unexpectedly, not knowing what had pushed him. He hurried to get back on his feet and as he saw that the suspect's gun had been running out of bullets, Gavin shot to stop him.
Gavin made sure that the suspect was no threat anymore. Officers were running into the room to arrest the shooter. And only then, Gavin noticed yn lying on the ground and all the blood pouring from her body...
Gasping for air, Gavin started up from his sleep and sat straight in his bed, "Fuck...", he cursed breathlessly. He was dripping with sweat, his hair clutching to his face. Three o'clock in the morning. Just two hours of sleep but still more than the night before...or all the other nights during the past weeks.
Gavin pushed his blanket away, sat on the edge of his bed and rested his face in his hands to calm down himself. His fingers were digging into his hair violently as he desperately tried to get the memories out of his head. He squeezed his eyes shut until stars were dancing in front of his inner eyes.
A shudder was shaking him. Goosebumps were spreading over his naked chest. To sit around like this, covered in sweat, wouldn't do anything good. And because he was already awake, Gavin stood up, took his boxing gloves and started to train until the pictures in his head would disappear.
He knew this would never happen.
He should have been better.
He had failed yn.
**
To stay in front of this certain building after all these long weeks felt like coming home. At least, for yn. She was nervous but in a good way that shot adrenaline through her body. It was like the first day at school after the summer break. She didn't have to fear anything. Everyone would be happy to see her again. And yet, she extended the moment to go in. It was not an official visit. She just wanted to come back because...she feared to miss too many things.
Yn had heard the rumors of Hank's new partner. An android. Then, there were the happenings that got called 'War of Detroit', the successful android revolution. So many things had changed and yet, yn knew that there was still this one, certain absolute term. Her own rock in this ocean of craziness she could always depend on: Gavin Reed, her partner.
Yn was looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces again and without waiting any longer, she entered the DPD finally.
*
Gavin stood in the kitchen of the DPD at one of the tables, his back facing the office so he hadn't to see anyone. The last thing he wanted was to talk with someone. A cup of coffee stood in front of him. He watched the foam floating around on the dark liquid. It was his third cup. And it wouldn't be the last.
"Good morning, Detective Reed."
Gavin nodded without looking up. Even if Gavin had made his peace with Connor, the nice android from the neighborhood, he was still getting on his nerves from time to time. This morning was such a 'time'. His thoughts always drifted back to his recurring dreams of yn…
"Reed.", Hank greeted Gavin, who nodded quickly. Without asking, Hank and Connor joined Gavin at the table. An own cup of coffee in front of Hank. He sugared it and stirred the liquid that would start his day.
Connor was about to say something, maybe to light up the mood of these two grumpy guys, but Hank stopped him, "Shit! Look who's there.", he said and looked at someone behind Gavin's back.
Gavin looked up and saw Hank and Connor staring at the same spot so, he turned around, "No fucking way!", Gavin called out surprised and approached yn quickly who stood in the passage of the kitchen. A smirk was spreading on his lips as he saw her in the familiar environment.
Yn smiled and waved but as she saw Gavin's predatory glance and the smirk, she stepped back and raised her hands to stop him, "Gavin, no. Stop! Gavin!" The impact of her partner knocked all the air out of her lungs.
He snaked his arms around her waist and scooped her up, "I have missed you, shorty!", he cheered.
Yn chuckled until she got put back down on her feet a moment later, "I have missed you, too, idiot!", she said. Together, Gavin and yn went back to the table to Hank and Connor, "I'm- what? Away for six weeks and everything went south? Detroit fights a civil war against androids who started a revolution? Everything's a warzone, suddenly and I'm not a part of that? Boys, I thought you could handle it better without me.", she said smirking and crossed her arms.
"We did what we could but there were just too many of these things.", Gavin said serious.
As yn looked at Gavin with an amused expression, her eyes fell on the fourth person at the table, "Oh, and who are you?"
"My name is Connor.", the android answered.
"My new partner.", Hank added.
"Your new- bloody hell! I already heard the rumors but- Nice to meet you. I'm yn. Whenever you need help with the old man, come to me.", yn said with a wink.
"Very funny!" Hank grunted but yn saw the grin on his face.
As Gavin saw the glances between Connor and yn, he stepped between them. Gavin wasn't fond of the way the android looked at her.
"So, you're 'back' back?", Gavin asked hopefully.
"I'm still not fully recovered. I have to attend a few dates with the psycho-doc AND I have to pass the shooting test. Then I will be back. I guess one more week. I just have missed all this so much, I had to come over.", yn said grinning.
"I guess, there will be no problem for you to pass everything, kiddo.", Hank said encouragingly.
"Thanks Hank-"
"Of course, she will pass all this bullshit! And then, she will be back. The precinct was way too boring without you!", Gavin said excitedly.
Yn saw his eyes sparkling and the familiar grin. She considered saying something nice but she always loved to tease this douchebag. It was their thing, "No new recruits to torture, huh?"
Gavin's smile faltered and he squinted his eyes as he saw her smirking, "I never-"
Yn nodded understandingly, "Ohh...I see... No women to hunt either? You poor thing!", she patted his cheek to act playfully caring.
Gavin couldn't do anything else than just to laugh before he brought her into a bear hug, completely enveloping her, "Oh, how much I have missed you!", Gavin stepped back, ruffled her hair, and laid his arm around her shoulders before they walked to his desk.
Connor watched after them. Overwhelmed by her entrance, the way she was handling Gavin and how different the Detective was around her, "Where was she?", he asked Hank finally.
Confused, Hank looked at his partner, "What?"
"Where was yn? She said she was gone for several weeks. Where had she been? Vacation?"
"Oh .. uhmm, no. She... During their last case, she got injured. She had to recover. It's good that she will be back soon, tho.", Hank explained, smiling about the fact yn was coming home.
"Detective Reed seems different around her.", Connor stated, still confused about all the smiles and laughter coming from Reed.
"I guess it's her magical power. She's able to handle him where anyone else failed a long time ago."
Connor looked at her once again. Yn stood with Gavin, Chris and some other cops at the desk, talking and laughing. She was truly magical. Nice, funny, cheeky, beautiful. He was looking forward to working with her. Then, she came back to them.
"Hey, I got appetite for the best burger in town. Wanna join?", she called over to Hank who nodded with a grin. Gavin rolled his eyes but she just nudged him in his side. Connor got dragged out of his thoughts and followed his three colleagues. Yn already waited for him to join. Much to Gavin's dismay she linked her arm with the android's one but he swallowed down his annoyance for the greater good.
*
They drove to the Chicken Feed truck. The best burger in town, how Hank had titled them. While the three made their orders, Connor organized a table. All three went to the table with burgers and drinks. Simultaneously, they bit into their burgers.
"You know, this meal contains 1.4 times the recommended daily intake of calories. You shouldn't eat-"
"Shut up!", Gavin and Hank yelled at the same time. Connor silenced instantly.
Yn looked alternating at Hank and Gavin before she stopped at Connor, "Connor, honey, very important rule: don't fuck the boys up when it comes to their food. It's not a good idea."
"But it's unhealthy.", Connor argued innocently.
Yn nodded slowly, knowing what he meant before she looked at her burger closely, "Well, I’m spotting salad, tomato and even pickles on our burgers. These are three different types of vegetables. It's more healthier than everything else we're used to consuming. Don't forget that we usually got fueled by coffee and donuts. Only."
Connor nodded and let them eat. He had learnt that humans knew how to live the best way but some of them didn't just want to do it right. Maybe it wasn’t for him to change their behaviour.
"Hey, sweety. Want some bread?”, Yn asked and threw a small piece of bread on the ground.
Hank followed the way of her attention and rolled annoyed with his eyes, "Oh, these disgusting creatures!", Hank muttered. Yn looked questioningly up to Connor.
"Lieutenant Anderson doesn't like pigeons.", Connor explained.
"That sounds like a story. I wanna know it!", yn said amused with a big grin, waiting for Hank to speak up.
Hank grinned but shook his head, "Someday, I will tell you what I had to endure with this guy but not now.", Hank said and he and Connor said goodbye. Hank hugged yn before they left her and Gavin alone.
Gavin and yn started to walk around a bit, enjoying the sunny winter day, "You look tired. Have you been very busy the last few weeks?", yn asked.
"No, it was okay. Nothing much. The typical stuff, you know.", Gavin said, his hands buried in the pockets of his jacket, playing with some coins.
"Oh, yeah... So, you just didn't want to see me then?", she asked, looking at him from the corner of her eyes, watching his reaction.
Gavin avoided her eyes, looking at the ground, "Yn…", he sighed, "I…", but he stopped. Unsure what he should say.
Yn nudged him with her shoulder, a soft smile on her lips as she saw his pained expression, "It's okay. I'm not mad. I was just… it was boring, you know. If you would have visited more often, maybe it would have been more fun to recover.", she said jokingly but it wasn't working, the painful expression stayed in his face.
"I really doubt that.", Gavin said low, still not able to look at her.
"What?", Yn asked surprised and stopped.
Gavin stopped as well, facing her with his back, "I- I… forget it.", Gavin said and was about to go but yn stopped him with her hand holding his arm and turning him around.
"Gavin, what is it?"
Gavin needed a moment before he looked at yn, as he did, it was with a serious expression, "It's my fault that you got injured in the first place."
Slightly taken aback that it was this topic that still bothered him, yn frowned and looked at him with big eyes and shaking her head, "No. It was the fault of this fucker-"
"No! You wouldn't have been shot if I hadn't been so stupid! I have failed you as a partner and as a friend!", Gavin called out angrily, torturing himself.
Yn intervened right away, "Stop that, Gavin! It's not your fault, okay? Your idea was good. This guy was simply just too crazy."
Gavin dropped his gaze, not able to look into her eyes any longer. For him it didn’t feel right to get forgiveness from her, "I should have been in your place instead. Two more scars on my body wouldn't make any difference to all the others I already have."
Yn stepped forward to search his glance, "You feel guilty, I get that. But ... you don't have to, okay? And beside, I know you and your luck. You would have been killed instead of just being injured.", a smirk playing on her lips.
Finally, Gavin looked at her again. He chuckled low by the face she made: a too overexcited grin to cheer him up. No matter how down he felt, yn was able to let him feel better. Always. Even just for a moment. He stepped forward and brought her into a bone crushing embrace, "It's so good to have you back.", he said softly into her hair.
Yn was surprised about the sudden outburst of emotions but she hugged him back, enjoying this moment to the fullest, "Yeah. And you know what? I can't wait to kick some asses with you again."

Daycare Attendant: Caffeine no longer keeps me awake while I work, so instead I have Freddy periodically send me texts saying ‘we need to talk.’ Daycare Attendant: It gives me the right amount of adrenaline and fear I need to keep going.

-
Lefty: If you put a milkshake in one yard and crack open a cold one in another yard, which yard would the boys go to? Rockstar Bonnie: Schrödinger's boys. Rockstar Chica: FUCK! Rockstar Foxy: What about cracking open a cold milkshake? Rockstar Freddy: As we all know, the milkshake brings the boys to the yard. The presence of the boys is a prerequisite for the cracking open of a cold one, but cold ones do not have any inherent boy-attracting abilities. Milkshakes, however, do. Rockstar Freddy: All else being equal, the boys would proceed to the milkshake yard. While it is possible to announce the presence of cold ones in the hope of attracting some boys, the pull of the milkshake is much more powerful by comparison. Lefty: ... Rockstar Bonnie: ... Rockstar Chica: ... Rockstar Foxy: ... Rockstar Freddy: Mind you, all of this nonsense hinges on whether or not the boys are back in town.
-
Crying Child: *lying down and crying* William Afton: There, there. Why don’t you take some time off to not be around me while you’re like this?
-
Freddy: Where's Foxy? Mangle: Don't worry, I'll find him. Mangle, shouting: BB sucks! Foxy, distantly: BB is the best person ever! Fuck you! Mangle: Found him.
-
Crying Child: Do we have any orange juice left? Michael Afton: *pours the remaining juice into his cup* Michael Afton: Sorry, we’re all out.
-
Funtime Foxy: Who hurt you? Michael Afton: *snorting* What, do you want a list? Funtime Foxy: ...Yes, actually.
-
William Afton: Did you miss me while I was gone? Michael Afton: You were gone?
-
Luis: Are you coming to bed? Vanessa: I can't. This is important. Luis: What? Vanessa: Someone is wrong on the internet.
-
Vanessa, talking about a Lil’ Music Man: Hey guys, I found a spider. Cool little lad. Thanks for eating the mosquitos. Vanessa: Oh no, where did it go? Dave (probably): VANESSA WHAT THE FUCK?!
-
Sun: You are banned from the Mickey Mouse Club for inappropriate behavior!

Breakable Heaven
Chapter 11 of In Breakable Heaven! We’re getting to the part that inspired the whole idea for this series, so I’m pretty excited!
Summary: Reader deals with the repercussions of being abducted.
Warnings: hospital recovery (I don’t know if that needed a warning but just in case), nothing else I can think of
Word Count: ~2100
You were wheeled out of the classroom on a stretcher, not fully conscious but not completely out of it either. Spencer stood frozen in the corner, watching as the medics loaded you onto the stretcher and wheeled you out of the room. You wanted nothing more than to be able to tell him you were okay, but you couldn’t form the words.
Waking up in the hospital was confusing. It took a lot of effort to open your eyes, but once you did you were instantly alert. The overhead lights put you on edge. The whole experience reminded you of how it felt when the trunk opened in the parking lot.
Your heartrate spiked, alerting the nurses to your anxious state. They rushed in the room, taking your vitals and administering medicine through your IV to calm you down, effectively putting you back to sleep.
Unsurprisingly, Penelope was first in the room the second visitors were allowed. You could tell it was her from the sound of her shoes clicking against the tile floor of the hospital.
“Hey Pen.” You smiled at her, glad to see someone you recognize after waking up this time around.
“You’re up! That’s good! Are you okay? How are you feeling? Do you need anything? I can go get the doctor! Or a nurse!” She turned around, ready to get anything you might need.
“Pen! It’s fine. Just sit with me, please?” You shifted slightly, grimacing.
“Of course. Of course! Anything.” She moves farther into the room, settling down into the chair next to your bed.
“How’s um…” You want to ask about Spencer, but you don’t know how without outing your relationship, something you’re not sure Spencer wants at the moment. “How’s everyone doing?”
“Oh, sweetie, they’re great! We didn’t have any new cases, so they’re all stuck doing paperwork.” She’s all smiles, unknowingly confusing you. If he isn’t on a case, why isn’t Spencer visiting you?
“Oh, good. I’m glad they’re getting a break. They deserve it.” Your smile is weak, but thankfully Penelope assumes it’s from the pain.
The two of you keep talking, Penelope showing you videos of cute animals to help cheer you up, for a few hours before she has to leave. Just as she’s standing up to go, JJ walks into the room.
“Hi, Y/N.” You laugh at the timing.
“Hi JJ. Fancy seeing you here as soon as Pen is leaving.” Your first genuine smile of the day graces your lips.
“Why, you didn’t think I’d leave you all alone did you? We’re taking turns. I’ll be back!” With a wave and a smile, she’s out the door. JJ takes her spot in the chair, leading you through the same conversation as earlier.
The next few days repeat like that until you’ve healed enough to leave the hospital. Every member of the team took a turn visiting you except for one. The one you wanted to see more than anyone else.
Penelope drove you back to your apartment, offering to walk you all the way up.
“It’s okay, Pen. I can handle it. I just want to get back to normal.” You leant over the middle console to hug her before getting out of the car.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“I never asked before, but I’ve been wondering...” Penelope trailed off, not knowing how to word her question.
“What is it?” Her show of nerves was putting you on edge.
“What was the phone call about? The one right before you were taken. You just looked so happy in the footage, I thought maybe if you remembered it you might have something to smile about.” She sounded so genuine, you didn’t know how to tell her it would only hurt more.
“Oh, ya know… I- uh, I don’t remember.” You stuttered through your response. “Thank you though. I know you’re worried about me, but you don’t need to be. I’ll be okay.” You smiled, turning around before she could see the tears welling up in your eyes.
The walk up to your apartment was the first time you had a moment to yourself since everything happened. It gave you a chance to really think about why Spencer wouldn’t have come to visit you. Unfortunately, you could only think of one reason that actually sounded plausible.
You shake your head in an attempt to clear your thoughts as you pull out your keys. You walk into your apartment, the darkness forcing you to realize how alone you felt.
--
You don’t remember falling asleep, but an insistent knocking on your front door wakes you up.
You shuffle towards the door from your place on the couch, sparing a second to glance through the peephole. You open the door without a greeting, simply leaving it open and returning to the couch.
Spencer walks in, closing the door behind him. He stares at you in silence, unsure how to begin this conversation.
“Y/N…” He expected you to turn towards him when he spoke, but you remained face down on the couch. You knew what was coming and you couldn’t deal with it. “How are you?”
That surprised you. You mostly expected him to break up with you and run, not check up on you first. Maybe you were wrong to expect the worst. Maybe he just didn’t want to out your relationship, but him not visiting you left a sour taste in your mouth. Especially because you know he was in Quantico with the rest of the team.
“Funny, you would know if you bothered to visit. What? You didn’t want the team to figure it out that bad? Hell, Hotch visited me and I barely know the man!” You started mumbling into the couch, but your emotion intensified as you spoke. You rolled over, sitting up to look at him.
“No, that’s not why… I didn’t want to visit you because I… I didn’t want to...” He looked physically pained by the words he was trying to say. “I didn’t want to break up with you in the hospital.” He finished the sentence, not even looking at you.
“You what?” Your voice broke on the two word sentence. His words were like a slap in the face, surprising you after his gentle opening of the conversation.
“I think we should break up.” He said it with more resolve this time, as if he had practiced saying it with no emotion.
You could feel your breathing speeding up, trying to push back the tears you knew were coming. “But why? What happened? We were going to get dinner? I thought you were happy? I thought we were happy?” Your words were rushed in an attempt to make sense of the situation unfolding in front of you.
“We can’t be happy together. It just won’t work.” Spencer’s words felt so cold. He stood in front of you emotionless while you felt as though the world was crumbling around you.
“That doesn’t make any sense. Spence, where is this coming from? This is so different from the last time we talked, a complete 180- No. 540 because we’ve gone all the way around and then kept spinning!” You were more confused than anything, unable to understand why he was saying these things.
“It’s just how it has to be. Goodbye.” He turned and left without another word, leaving you to piece together where it all went wrong.
You sat on the couch, staring at the door as if he would walk back in and say it was all a dream, that he was happy with you, and everything would be fine as long as you were together.
You stared, unmoving, until the beginnings of daylight began to filter into your apartment through the curtains. The sounds of people getting ready for their days began to filter through your apartment building as you drifted off to sleep.
--
When you woke up later that night, everything felt like a dream, the only reminder being the dried tears on your face. You spent the next few days trying to figure out what went wrong, but every single time you came up empty.
Penelope came by to visit you every chance she got, but you never told her about you and Spencer. Even when she told you how he has been acting off.
“How’s the rest of the team doing?” You asked in an attempt to learn about Spencer.
“Oh, they’re fine. Wrapped up another case yesterday. Apparently Spencer was acting a bit off though, nobody can get him to talk about it. I think Hotch and Rossi have an idea about it, but they wouldn’t budge when I asked.” She supplied you with the information you were craving.
“Off? What do you mean?” You tried your best to sound nonchalant as you prodded for more information.
“He just seems a little sad, but whenever anybody asks him what’s wrong he gets defensive. It’s typical Spencer behavior. Someone will get through to him eventually, and he’ll open up. Derek and I were theorizing, and he thinks it has to do with his secret girlfriend. Speaking of opening up though, have you considered therapy? I know you said you don’t want to talk about what happened, but I think it could be good for you to get it off your chest! I mean, you’re not even listening to music anymore! I just want you to be happy again, and I know it’ll take some time because you went through a trauma, but talking about it helped me when I was shot, and I know everybody deals with things differently, so don’t feel like you have to go talk to someone, I just want to help in any way I can, even if that means-”
“Pen, I actually scheduled an appointment for tomorrow.” You smiled at your friend, cutting off her rambling. Dealing with the breakup on your own has actually been more difficult than dealing with the kidnapping. At least you could talk to Penelope about your feelings regarding being kidnapped and tortured, but bottling everything else up inside was not healthy.
“That’s good. I’m really glad you’re taking the necessary steps to move on and heal.” She replied, smiling again.
“Thanks Pen.” You couldn’t help but wonder what she would say if she knew the whole truth.
--
After a week off, you went back to work at the bookstore. You just wanted things to be as normal as possible. That was kind of hard with the media circus surrounding your kidnapping, but you did your best.
You were actually unprepared for the media involvement. From your perspective, the case was over before it really began. You were only “missing” for about 5 hours, but it’s difficult to keep a case quiet when the suspect was shot and killed in a public high school. It’s one of the things you worked through in your therapy appointments.
After your first appointment, you scheduled another for later in the week. You decided to go twice a week for a month while things were still so fresh, and then you decreased it to once a week.
After about a month of therapy, you decided to do another cover show. Your therapist helped you work through the emotions enough that you could once again turn to music to heal. After scheduling the show, you called Penelope to invite her and the rest of the team.
“Hey Pen! Are you busy this Saturday?” You surprised yourself with how happy you sounded.
“Not unless a case pops up, but right now everything looks clear. What did you have in mind?”
Penelope wasn’t oblivious to your happy attitude, but ultimately she decided not to mention it for fear of putting a damper on things.
“I’m actually going to do a mini-show, just three songs, but I wanted to invite you and the team! I think it will be really cathartic for me to get all of this out in the open.” You planned the three songs with your therapist. It would be a way for you to tell Spencer everything you were feeling. He wouldn’t answer your calls or texts, and he might not even come to the show, but you decided you needed to get your feelings out there even if he wasn’t there to hear them.
“That’s wonderful! I’ll make sure everyone is there!” Penelope couldn’t hold in her joy as she squealed in delight.
“Thanks Pen, but don’t force anyone. Only if they want to come!” Your words were playful, but you didn’t want Spencer to feel like you were forcing him to come through Penelope.
“Okay, fine. But I’m still going to pester!”
The two of you hung up the phone, eagerly awaiting Saturday.

"Smith family drama" anon: I agree that the joke was very tasteless and I absolutely roll my eyes at the Academy acting like they have any authority to really make moral judgements lol
I think I'm just sick of the knee jerk/extreme takes from people that want that "PICK ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER" black & white viewpoint.
People should shut down jokes like that and I could see specific situations where physical force may be necessary but I feel like people get bloodthirsty and aren't always thinking about the consequences of their actions even if people could understand where they're coming from.
Generally, I think it's best not to resort to violence if possible (yes it could have been more than/worse than a slap but also there's other options for a response.) I guess I would have gone for the classic flip em the bird which you could argue isn't exactly classy either or "chris if I wanted to see a clown act I would've gone to the circus but at least that would have actually been funny"
In conclusion, they both have issues, but I won't lie and say the memes don't amuse me.
Anonymous asked:
Will shouldn't have to return shit, the award is for skill and work, and was won before the whole thing went down. Asking him to return it is BullShit no matter how one looks at it. That being said, getting physical with someone to defend Jada's honour feels... Sad. In a pathetic way. I'm sorry, but I can't picture that woman even raising her voice to defend him, let alone her hand.
Anonymous asked:
"My thoughts will probably offend you" made a Imo pretty good video about the Will Smith slapping Chris Rock situation. You don't need to agree with everything she says, but she got some good points when it comes to the direct confrontation.
Grouping all these together.
I watched the video mentioned in the last ask. Beautiful woman. She would probably insult me for being in the same breathing space as her but, still, beautiful.
Earlier I kind of did an admittedly middling 'Oh, technically he shouldn't have resorted to violence' because, at the end of the day, I myself am always down to see people come to blows in matters of rudeness or disrespect. The whole 'Talk shit like a bitch, get struck like one too' mindset.
Realistically, however, we shouldn't resort to violence over words. The lady in the video brought up how a truly intelligent person could have taken the opportunity to cut Chris down with his words and make him feel bad down to his core (along the lines of 'Yeah, it's interesting for you to make that kind of joke because my wife has Alopecia. And it's kind of incurable. Like the trainwreck that is your acting career. Leave the comedy to actual comedians, okay?') but he let emotions that have obviously been building up get the best of him.
Do I still think it and the resulting memes were funny? I mean, I'm only human; of course. But, yeah, you typically don't want to hit anyone unless they try to hit you first.
And, again, if the Academy tries to say something like 'give back your award', they should just dismantle the whole thing.

How do you think the adultrio would respond to being ROASTED by their crush? (Mutual feelings between the crush on the member of the trio, but neither of them know their feelings are returned) *waggles eyebrows*
Oho, this is gonna be fun 😈
Thank you and I hope you like it! 🙇💕
Also, I think those suck, so please, someone come and roast those guys for me or with me if I did this right 😂
Chrollo
Chrollo has been feeling some sort of way about you for a while and has been trying to show it to you
and you liked him too - it was a bit too hard not to like him
but he always seemed to be polite to everyone, speak in this calm manner and using such clever words
it just didn’t seem as if he was treating you any differently
so when Machi, knowing about your crushes on each other, asked what you didn’t like about Chrollo - he was curious if there was something and if he could change it to make you like him more
I’d love to run my fingers through his hair, but I’m scared they’d get stuck in all that hair gel of his and I wouldn’t be able to pull them out or I’d pull them and his hair off too
Machi’s lip barely twitched before she looked at Chrollo who looked shocked, with his eyes wide and staring from you to Machi as you continued talking about other things
well, he didn’t really expect that
but he did use a lot of hair gel, so he could understand
and when he thought of the image you managed to conjure in his mind, he actually scoffed in amusement
he’d lay off the hair gel, at least for a while, and especially when he was around you
you did notice how his hair was now let down more often
and honestly, the urge to run your fingers through his hair was really strong
it looked really soft and fluffy
and one day, while you were watching TV, Chrollo sat down next to you, with a book, of course
only that he asked if he could sit... with his head in your lap
all while staring at you with those big, captivating, grey eyes and those pouty lips set in a charming, warm smile
you just couldn’t say no
and so you got a comfy pillow and put it on your thighs
for some time, you both stayed silent and did your own thing
but your hands were twitching to just go through his hair and you just couldn’t help it when you asked him if he could do it
oh, what made you want to do something like this?
again, those grey eyes staring at you and that... playful smile
you just told him to shut it and enjoy it, which made him laugh
and his hair really was soft and fluffy now that it wasn't slicked back with tons of hair gel
Chrollo only hummed before slowly putting the open book on his chest and enjoying your fingers through his hair and your nails over his scalp
it was a quiet, peaceful moment
the Spiders were getting sick of your little dance around your feelings while you were glancing at one another when you thought the other wasn’t looking
hopefully, one of you would soon crack and expose their feelings for the other
Hisoka
this dummy...
he has an interest in you
he’s been around you for an awful lot of time and you probably won’t fight him
you even told him that and he still hung around
of course, with all the time he spent with you, you started taking a liking to him
none of you said anything to the other about your feelings
Hisoka wasn’t really sure that what he felt wasn’t just extreme lust or just him wanting to toy around with you
and you were pretty sure that Hisoka didn’t want anything serious like a relationship with you
as weird and extravagant as he was, Hisoka could be pretty funny when he wanted to be
and he almost always was around you, making you feel pretty safe
Hisoka could pester and tease you a lot though
and it got to the point where it actually started getting on your nerves one day
usually, you would just shake your head and let him be or retaliate
but today, you just wanted to shut him up
he just kept poking you when you wouldn’t say a thing and in the end, you snapped
Hisoka, I swear that I’ll take you back to the circus if you don’t stop acting like a clown!
he could only blink and stare with a frozen smile
that was mean, lovely~ ♠️
that damn, teasing smile came back full force and Hisoka actually put an arm around your waist, pulling you closer to him
that smile stayed on his face the whole day
at least it shut him up
that little comeback of yours amused him greatly and he was glad you could keep up with him and actually make him be silent
if only because of the thoughts in his head telling him that while there was definitely lust, Hisoka could feel that there was something more than that
he only wondered if, with just a bit more time by your side, he could actually be able to pinpoint his exact feelings and act upon them
and soon
he didn’t want to give you to anyone else
Illumi
somehow, you’d made it
you had made THE Illumi Zoldyck get a crush on you
after befriending Gon and Killua during the Hunter Exam, you’d visited Killua quite often
the two boys loved you and so did Alluka and Kalluto when you managed to meet them through some of your many visits to the Zoldyck estate
even Milluki liked you, but he kept his distance
still, he was respectful to you since you were just as polite to everyone you had met there
the butlers liked you, Silva and Kikyo liked you, Zeno enjoyed talking to you a lot and you liked listening to his stories, and Maha?
even he liked you, though he was quieter
you’d managed to brighten the whole place up with your optimism, kindness and politeness
Illumi had seen you during the exam and had kept a close eye on you, even more so when he saw Killua accept you nearby and grew curious after he’d brought you over the first time
you’d formally met Illumi and he was left feeling conflicted
he didn’t really like you at first
you were the type that would prevent Killua from fulfilling his family-imposed destiny of being the next heir and assassin
but the more he watched your interactions with everyone, including the ones with him, the more he realised that his family had actually grown closer
Illumi would stare at you a lot of times, wondering why you’d attracted his attention so much
Hisoka was the one who noticed that there was something going on when he saw him zone out a lot more often
and when he teasingly asked him if he was in love
that’s when it clicked
and so, Illumi now tried spending time with you whenever you were at the estate and not with any of the others
you actually started liking him
he was pretty quiet, but cute, respectful and strong
right now, he was ready to tear you away from Killua and Alluka who you were animatedly talking to when he heard Killua’s words
(Y/N)-chan, what do you think about Illumi and his needles?
Illumi stopped as you hummed, curious about your answer
I always wonder if his senses are that good, you know? I mean, I know he’s an assassin and all, but did he ever forget one of his needles somewhere and stung himself in the butt or something? Or did he get his Rapunzel-like hair tangled up? I remember when Gon threw him over his shoulder and he seemed pretty clumsy
Illumi was, for once, embarrassed
unfortunately, things like those had happened before
the needle one? when he was a kid and he was still trying to get used to them
and the hair one... a few months before because he had a fitful sleep - a rare occurrence, but it did happen
and the thing with Gon... of course you were there and just had to see that
Killua and Alluka snickered and just at that moment, Killua looked back and smirked at Illumi
the little jerk knew he was there
and that he liked you
and he took full advantage of it
Illumi could only call out to you, stating that he needed your opinion on something
and as you left with him, Illumi could hear his younger siblings’ snickering
he hoped you liked him, despite the embarrassing moments, and that he’d be able to tell you he liked you too
maybe he could ask Hisoka for some advice?

Another One?!, Part 2
First > Next
Years passed them by. It’s funny how that happens when no one in the house has a distinct schedule to follow.
The hours blending together was actually really good for them as vigilantes. People couldn’t just plan around their normal patrolling hours.
Also, it meant that they could take days off without anyone thinking much of it.
Like today.
He glared at his reflection, touching his hair for the millionth time in an attempt to fix it. Or, rather, un-fix it. He was going for a messier look, why couldn’t he just get it to cooperate?
He gave his wife a pleading look. “Help?”
She clicked her tongue and looked him up and down a few times to get a gauge for his outfit (which he had purposely made too vague for her to get an idea of what they were doing) then rested her hands on her hips. “Well, I’d love to help…”
“But…?”
“But I can’t use my expertise unless I know where we’re going. There’s certain looks for different occasions, after all.”
He sighed. “C’mon…”
She bit her lip. “Fine. Just tell me how formal I need to be.”
“Casual…” He hesitated as he mulled it over. “But not jeans casual, more like day-dress casual. And wear darker colors, you could get stains on it.”
“There, was that so hard?”
He raised his eyebrow at her. “Considering I’m sure you’ve now guessed the surprise, I’m going to say yes.”
She gave him a cheeky grin and a wink.
He pouted. Man. He’d been so careful about keeping everything a secret from her. It was their tenth anniversary, he’d wanted to surprise her. He’d pulled out all the stops, even using cash for the tickets so she wouldn’t have an easy way to trace the payments.
Only to have it spoiled because of his hair.
Dang.
Then, she laughed and he thought that maybe it wasn’t so bad that she’d found out. The smile was worth it.
She reached up and started running her fingers through his hair. “As always, your problem is that you use too much hair gel… you never learn, do you…?”
“Maybe I do it on purpose to make you mess with my hair.”
She gave him a skeptical look and then pulled away. “Done. Time to get ready for… a carnival…? No… a circus.”
He pouted.
Marinette gave him another one of those laughs before slipping into the bathroom to change.
Two hours later they sat in a circus tent. Front-row seats, of course, they weren’t stingy.
She rested her head on his shoulder as they waited for everything to start. He stole some of her popcorn and smiled at the halfhearted glare he earned. His smile dropped when she dropped some onto his head. He pulled away from her to try and pick the pieces out.
“C’mon, Mari, my hair took so long. The paparazzi always checks on us on our anniversaries. I’m a model, you can’t do this to me --.”
And then the lights dimmed. And the ringmaster walked out.
The both of them tensed. The crowd was buzzing with excitment, but the two vigilantes gave each other wary looks. The ringmaster seemed almost anxious, his knuckles white on his cane.
Still, he gave a brilliant smile to the crowd as he announced the first act.
They relaxed the longer they watched. Nothing seemed to be going wrong, the contortionist was absolutely fine. So was the person doing aerial silks, and the clowns, the snake charmer…
Maybe the ringmaster was just new. He seemed to be growing more and more confident with each act. False alarm.
But then the trapeze artists came onstage.
Marinette murmured something about their outfits that he didn’t catch but knew was insulting.
The young performer smiled and waved to the crowd, then started climbing the opposite ladder as his parents.
The mom grabbed ahold of the trapeze and smiled as she hooked her knees over the bar, then held her hands out for her husband. The man jumped out and caught her hands.
And then the wire snapped.
The couple barely had a chance to scream before they hit the dirt.
The tent was completely silent.
And then the chaos started. Parents rushed to cover their kids’ eyes, people stumbled over each other as they ran, others surged forward to see better.
He could feel Marinette hop the railing in front of them to go check their pulses. There was no need, everyone could see it plainly, but she still tried.
Adrien didn’t move, his eyes locked on the kid.
He was standing there. He was hugging himself tightly, shaking, tears spilling over his cheeks.
He needed help.
A hand wrapped around his wrist. Marinette was pulling him out of the tent. He didn’t want to leave the kid alone but he couldn’t do that as Adrien Agreste. They needed to transform.
It took way too long to find a hiding place because people were already hiding in every obvious place they could think of. After a while they just broke into a trailer and dropped some money on the counter as an apology, unable to waste any more time.
They ran back into the tent and found that, to their horror, the police were there already.
Marinette mumbled a curse. “You deal with the kid, I’m going to steal some evidence before they get rid of it all.” She pressed a kiss to his cheek and then practically disappeared.
Adrien found his way over to the child, who had been covered in a shock blanket. They flinched when he got closer and he gave his most award-winning smile as he held up his hands in surrender. “Hey, I don’t want to hurt you, I promise.”
They looked kind of skeptical, but they did scoot over a little on their bench so he could sit down.
He sat as far away as he could, setting his baton at his feet carefully. “What’s your name, kiddo?”
His eyes never wavered from the front of the tent. It was like he was waiting for something or someone, but Adrien couldn’t guess what.
“Dick.”
“Well, Dick, do you have any family that I can take you to?”
Maybe that was what he was waiting for --?
“No.”
His smile disappeared. Ah. Not great.
He followed his gaze to the door and mulled everything over.
The kid didn’t seem to be in much of a rush, the shock was wearing off but it would still make the passage of time kind of weird for him. Adrien could take the time to think his next words through.
He’d met kids who had lost their last remaining family members before. Sometimes Marinette and Adrien just couldn’t get there in time and she wouldn’t be able to bring them back. It was an inevitable and unfortunately common part of their jobs. But every single time felt like a punch to the gut.
But he couldn’t let that show, not really.
He watched the kid out of the corner of his eyes. You always base your approach on how the kid is reacting in the moment. Some wanted open comfort, but this one didn’t want that if the way he’d flinched when Adrien had come close was any indication. Others wanted to just talk, also not going to happen considering the short answers he’d been given thus far. This kid seemed to just want to be left alone, but leaving a child in a vulnerable state was never a good idea.
So, what was he supposed to do?
He sighed. “I’m really sorry about what happened, these kinds of accidents --.”
“It wasn’t an accident.”
Adrien blanked. “Sorry?”
“It wasn’t an accident.” Dick hugged the blanket tighter around himself. “There was two guys. Mean-looking. Tried to get Mr. Haly to do some… protection payments? Left all mad and stuff. Said they would get paid or get payback.”
He was so shocked that the kid had given an answer with more than a few words in it that his brain buzzed right past the information he was given and he had to backtrack to actually process it.
And, when he did, his fists clenched.
“Did they mention any names?” He asked quietly, fighting to keep his voice level. This was still a kid who needs help, he couldn’t allow his anger to mess that up.
“Zucco.”
Adrien filed that information away for later and then gave the kid a once-over. They were no longer staring at the door, instead just fidgeting under their blanket. It was good that they were coming out of shock, but he doubted that Dick would see it that way. The numbness would be wearing off soon, and the feelings that would come to take its place would be painful.
He did the only thing he could think of: try and distract the kid. Good to see he’s passing on the unhealthy coping mechanisms.
“Hey, are you going to stay in the circus?”
“Can I?” Said Dick. He didn’t seem all that excited, just confused. As if he hadn’t thought that an option.
Adrien shrugged. “I mean, there’s that whole thing about ‘running away and joining the circus’. Even if they force you into an orphanage, you can probably just come back here.”
“I hear orphanages suck.”
True. He doubted that Dick would get the mental health treatment he needed (if he got any at all) and the money at those kinds of places were always stretched thin, especially in Gotham. He didn’t like the idea of sending the kid there, but what other choices did he have?
Before he could really think of an answer a hand clapped itself over his shoulder.
He barely even looked back. He knew who it was going to be. He fought back a groan.
“Ross,” he said, the smile on his face becoming more strained. He wasn’t going to fight in front of Dick, the kid was already stressed enough. “Nice to see you again.”
The cop didn’t seem all that concerned about niceties, his grip tightening on Adrien’s shoulder. “Get away from my witness.”
“He has a name. And he doesn’t know anything. Leave him alone.”
Dick frowned. “But I --.”
Marinette popped up out of nowhere, arms crossed over her chest as she openly glared at the officer. “You guys should keep better track of the evidence you actually do have, someone might take it.”
Officer Ross went pale and then ran to his partner to ask where the evidence was.
Adrien was also pale, though for different reasons. This kid didn’t know that the police were corrupt and that telling them anything would likely end in him getting killed? He couldn’t let that happen. Where could he keep him that they wouldn’t check? An orphanage or the circus wouldn’t work, those would be the first places they’d go…
He brought a smile to his face as he carefully leaned towards the kid. To his delight, he didn’t flinch or lean away. Progress!
“Hey, I’ve got some friends that I think I can give you to. Good people. They’ll take care of you until we can find something more permanent, sound good?”
Dick looked a little skeptical but he nodded.
Adrien carefully scooped the kid up in his arms and looked at his wife. “I’m going to take him, you can go home for the night and relax.” He sent her a discreet wink.
She smiled faintly and gave Dick a tiny wave before slipping out of the tent.
Good. She’d understood.
~
She had definitely not understood.
You see, winks are ambiguous.
Adrien’s wink had meant ‘Get home and brush up on your acting skills because we need to sell this’.
She had thought his wink had meant ‘It’s our anniversary and we shouldn’t be working anyways. Go ahead and head home, we’ve already done too much and I want to relax with my darling wife’.
So, when she’d gotten home she’d detransformed and slipped into some comfy pajamas and plopped herself down on the couch to watch some TV.
And then the door had opened.
She’d smiled and poked her head up. “Back already? That was quick --.”
Adrien was still holding Dick to himself.
Tikki gave a quiet gasp of surprise and zipped between the couch cushions.
Her husband smiled. “Hey, can I cash in a favor?”
Marinette opened and closed her mouth repeatedly, and then pursed her lips tightly. She couldn’t exactly say ‘no’, because now that she thought about it they really didn’t have any other options (kids have a tendency to have no filter and this one seemed to lack any common sense at all if she was judging by his outfit)...
Didn’t mean she couldn’t be bitter. They should have had more of a conversation about this than a wink, and she was going to tell him that:
“I don’t know, Chat, my husband isn’t here right now. This is the kind of thing you’re supposed to discuss with your partner.”
Adrien winced almost imperceptibly and had the decency to look sheepish. “I’m sure he’d be fine with it. Please, I have nowhere else I can take him.”
She bit her lip and looked at the kid, then squeezed her eyes shut.
There was a more selfish reason that they both wanted to do this…
They wanted kids. It had just never really been an option for them. If she wanted to get pregnant, she would pretty much have to give up crime-fighting for those nine months (and possibly permanently, that stuff has long-term effects). They couldn’t really bring themselves to adopt, either, because their lives were hectic and every single book in the world says that adoptees need a stable home.
She couldn’t let their wishes cloud their judgment. She was supposed to be the rational one. They would certainly mess this kid up, taking him wasn’t an option…
But leaving him wasn’t an option…
And it was kind of like the universe was dropping Dick into their laps…
Dick started to sniffle, bringing a hand up to wipe his eyes. Damn. She’d taken too long and now he felt rejected.
Her heart clenched. The kid didn’t deserve this...
“I… we can take him… but only temporarily. We need to find a better home for him eventually.”
It was best that none of them got their hopes up. This wasn’t a good solution, just the only one they could think of at the moment. At some point they’d think of a better one, and they’d have to do that.
Adrien and Dick both nodded.
Marinette slowly walked over and leaned down slightly to be at the kid’s eye level. “I’m Marinette Agreste. What’s your name, sweetie?”
“Richard. You can call me Dick, though.”
Listen. She wasn’t proud of what she’d said. But she’d never heard it before -- she was far less social than Adrien was -- and, really, how do you get the name ‘Dick’ from ‘Richard’?
“I don’t think you understand how much I cannot do that.”
Adrien had had to set Dick down, he was laughing so hard.
~
When he came home (as Adrien, this time), he was surprised to see Marinette stress baking.
He wasn’t sure why he was surprised, adopting a child is a stressful situation even if you had been expecting it. And they definitely had not been expecting it.
He watched her bake for a moment in the doorway.
She clicked her tongue. “Are you just going to watch me bake or are you going to come inside? Or do I have to make a ‘look what the cat dragged in’ joke everytime I see you, now?”
He smiled and took a seat on the counter. “What’re you making?”
“Cookies.” She turned around for some flour and then sent him a half-hearted glare when she saw him sitting next to it. “I was using that counter.”
“Unfortunate.”
Marinette clicked her tongue again and then moved to another spot. “When...” She grimaced a little. “When… the kid wakes up from a nightmare -- because there’s no way that he wouldn’t have one after tonight -- I’d like to at least have something sweet ready for him. I know we’re not his parents or whatever, but he should at least feel welcome while he’s here.”
He sobered a little, pulling a knee to his chest. “The whole vigilante thing… we’re going to have to put it on hold for a little while, you know…”
“There’s no way we can properly take care of a kid and be Chat Noir and Ladybug. Or, at least, we’d need to make some changes.” She procured a whisk out of seemingly nowhere and started whisking the batter.
He raised his eyebrows. “Changes?”
“We could take shifts. I’d take night shifts as Ladybug and day shifts parenting the kid. You do the opposite.”
“We’d burn out,” said Adrien with a sigh.
“Well, what are we supposed to do? Give the city over to Superman? Guy is shady enough as it is.”
He rolled his eyes. “He’s not shady, you just can’t handle people being nice to you.”
“MY POINT IS that we can’t just stop protecting the city. Especially not if the mob is going after circuses of all things.”
“Yeah, why are they doing that? Is there really money from circuses? Aren’t they all going out of fashion because of that whole ‘animal abuse’ thing most of them have going on?”
“As they should,” she murmured. She finished whisking and started searching for something in the drawers. She procured a scoop and started making rows of cookies. “But, probably, smuggling. No one bats an eye when circuses cross borders, that’s kind of their whole thing.”
He nodded slowly. “Fair enough. Still seems like a hassle, especially now that they’re probably going to be more heavily regulated because those people died.”
“Well, hopefully their sacrifice won’t be in vain. The bit of trapeze wire I stole from the police might give us some leads on the guy’s pseuds.”
“Are you calling up Nygma?”
She shrugged and set the cookies in the oven. “Kinda. He hasn’t done anything in three months, so he’s due any day now. I’ll talk to him about it after saving whoever he captured this time… unless you want to talk to him instead?”
He grinned. “No, I could never go instead of you. You like making fun of his outfit too much.”
“Awwww, thanks, Chaton,” she cooed. She took a seat next to him and pressed a short kiss to his lips. “You know me so well.”
“Well, we’ve been partners for fifteen years. You’d hope I’d know you by now.”
She smiled faintly and leaned into him. She watched the timer tick down for a little while in silence, biting her lip.
“What’s wrong?”
“I mean, even if the trapeze was sabotaged, what are the chances that the acid is something special that we can trace to him? One of us is going to have to go undercover.”
He raised his eyebrows. “And leave Dick alone?”
“There’s no way Zucco is only going after this one place. We can’t take back what’s happened to him, but we can at least make sure he’s the only one to have to go through this.”
Adrien frowned. She was right, though he hated it. While they had given themselves the obligation of taking care of Dick, they couldn’t just drop everything for him. Especially considering their jobs.
“Okay, M’lady, what’s the plan?”
“Well, I hear that the circus is looking for new trapeze artists.”
~
She smiled as she set the last of the cookies in the Tupperware and started heading towards Dick’s new room.
Her conversation with Adrien had gone a lot better than she was expecting, honestly. She’d explained her reasoning for why it would be safe now and he’d, however reluctantly, agreed that she’d made sense.
She decided she’d wait a few days for everything to end up in the news properly before asking to join the circus. After all, it would be suspicious if she called just a few hours after a tragedy.
She stopped outside the former guest room and considered knocking… and then decided she’d better not. On the off chance that Dick wasn’t having a nightmare, she didn’t want to wake him.
She pressed the door open and then stopped cold when she saw that the kid was crying.
Marinette glanced behind her, wondering if she could get away with just walking past and acting like she was going to the bathroom or something. She wasn’t good with emotions, not with people close to her. Random people on the street were fine, people she’d never have to interact with again were fine, but this…
She was not nearly as good as Adrien… but Adrien was asleep, the fucker...
“Miss Marinette?” Said the kid.
She winced mentally and reached along the wall for the light. “Yes, sweetie, it’s me.”
The light flicked on and she saw Dick duck his head so his hair would hide his face.
“I brought cookies,” she said awkwardly as she walked over and took a seat on the edge of his bed. “I didn’t know what you’d like, so I just went with chocolate chip.”
He nodded slightly and mumbled his thanks as he took the Tupperware from her.
She bit her lip as he nibbled at her cookies, and then couldn’t help but smile at the way his posture relaxed a little.
“These are good.”
“My parents were bakers. I’d have been disowned if I couldn’t make chocolate chip cookies.”
He cracked the tiniest of smiles.
She floundered again in the new silence. There’s a difference between comfortable silences and awkward ones and this was definitely feeling more on the awkward side.
“I could teach you to bake, if you’d like. I doubt you had time to learn on the road.”
He hesitated. “I’d burn the place down.”
“That’s okay. If I could teach Adrien to cook then there’s hope for anyone.”
She had not, in fact, been able to teach Adrien to cook. He had set the entire kitchen on fire in what they now called The Brownie Incident… but Dick didn’t need to know that.
He smiled a little more and leaned back against the bed frame, still eating cookies. He had to be on his third one by now. She wasn’t going to call him out on it, though.
She glanced him over. He was no longer really hiding his face, and the tears had stopped sliding down his cheeks. He seemed content. She didn’t want to drag any feelings back, but...
“Would you like to talk about your nightmare?” She asked quietly.
“No.”
She winced internally. “Okay. Would you like me to leave?”
“No.”
Marinette let a little bit of surprise show on her face for just a second before slowly scooting over to lay next to him. She took a cookie he offered her and closed her eyes, relaxing a little.
“Are you going to sleep again?”
“No.”
“That’s okay. Do you want that baking lesson now?”
Dick giggled a little. “But we already have cookies…”
“Well, we don’t have any cakes, now, do we? Or brownies. And there’s other types of cookies!”
She peeked an eye open and couldn’t help but smile a little at the grin on the kid’s face at the mention of all the possibilities.
Then he gave her a suspicious look. “Are you trying to fatten me up like an evil witch?”
“Yes,” she said gravely. “I adopt little circus kids and fatten them up to eat. The entire house is actually made of candy.”
To her surprise and slight horror, he actually brought the corner of his blanket to his mouth. Then he spat it out. “Liar!”
“I…” She trailed off. She didn’t know how to respond to that. Moving on. “So, about that baking thing, how do brownies sound?”
He grabbed her by the sleeve of her pajama shirt and pulled her out into the halls with a bright smile. She had to do a half-jog to keep up with him.
“Shhhh, Mister Adrien is asleep!” He stage-whispered.
She scoffed. “Me?! You’re the one running!”
“Shhhhhhhhh!”
Marinette clicked her tongue once and allowed him to pull her into a full on jog as they raced through the house. Really, it was a testament to how tired he was that Adrien didn’t wake up.
She grinned and offered him a hand to get up on the counter, and then was reminded of the fact that he was a literal trapeze artist as he vaulted off of her hand and jumped over her head to get to it.
She whispered a quiet “holy shit” in English, then covered her mouth with her hand. She and Adrien had a sort of unspoken rule that you can only curse in English, it’s just a weird thing that bilingual households do where cursing in the second language just doesn’t count, but now this was an actual kid who spoke (as far as she was aware) only English. She can’t teach him curse words!
But he didn’t seem to hear it, instead smiling as he reached towards the sink and started cleaning his hands.
She washed her hands after him and then started pulling down things to make brownies. Should she do chocolate chips or just cocoa powder…?
She remembered The Brownie Incident.
She shivered.
Cocoa powder. Definitely cocoa powder.
She put some butter in the microwave.
“What does ‘holy shit’ mean?”
She wheezed. “Uh-- I-- um--.”
“I’m just messing with you. I already know.”
Oh thank fuck.
Well, maybe not. She was kind of glad that he was feeling comfortable enough to joke around with her, but… the idea of him secretly being a little shit, while not necessarily surprising, was a bit worrying.
“Okay… good? Just… don’t swear in front of Adrien. I don’t really care, but if he hears you he might think I taught you… so it’s just our little secret, okay?”
He smiled and made a zipping motion across his lips. She copied the motion.
Aw, she’d almost forgotten how cute kids were when they weren’t in dangerous or sad situations.
The microwave beeped and she hummed as she combined the butter, cocoa, and sugar. She stirred a bit and then handed Dick the eggs.
“Here, you can crack three of them into the bowl. Do you know how to do that?”
He huffed. “Yes!”
He, in fact, did not know how to do that.
She watched in open-mouthed horror as he attempted to just pull the egg open without cracking it.
“N… no, sweetie. You need to break it on the counter, first.”
He nodded and then slammed the egg on the counter.
Marinette wiped some egg off of the front of her shirt and then took a few breaths to steady herself. Now that the shock had worn off, she was very tempted to laugh and she was not going to do that to this poor, confused kid.
“I think I did it wrong.”
She snickered and then coughed to cover it up. “I… yes. I’ll show you how to do it.”
He gave a tiny smile as she took his hand and taught him how to crack an egg. He repeated the process with the other two eggs and she worked at cleaning up the mess he’d made.
… how the fuck was there egg on the wall? That was a good seven feet away from the island they were cooking on. Sure, he had to be strong to be an acrobat, but what the fuck?
She sighed and set the napkin done now that he was done and smiled as she added the vanilla, salt, and flour.
She handed him a spatula.
“Stir. Go wild, kid,” she said,
Big mistake.
Dick took her words to heart, and she watched as he stirred madly, batter flying everywhere.
She laughed, only to get splashed with the batter.
She managed to stop his hand and sent him a tiny glare.
“I'm starting to think you’re doing this on purpose.”
“Whaaaat? No.”
She narrowed her eyes slightly, and then gasped when he lobbed a tiny bit of batter at her shirt.
“Oops,” he said, giving her a feral grin.
Marinette couldn’t help but smile back… then she reached past him and grabbed a handful of flour. She flicked her fingers and smiled when it got on his face.
He pouted and started rubbing his eyes. “Ow…”
Panic.
“Oh, sorry, did I get it in your eyes?” She leaned down. “Let me see.”
He nodded and slowly brought his hands away from his face and she checked his eyes with her fingers carefully --.
Only to feel an egg smash itself on top of her head.
She wiped some egg from her face and narrowed her eyes at him. “I’ll get you for that one, you traitor!”
He squealed and set the batter down, then did a backroll away from her.
Marinette and Dick grabbed their weapons…
An hour later, they were both breathing heavily.
“Truce?” She said, lowering her flour-covered arm.
He nodded slowly… and then threw an egg at her.
She dodged it easily and glared at him, her hand already reaching for her flour again —.
“Now truce! Now truce.”
She hesitated, then clicked her tongue as she let herself relax.
They looked around the mess that was the kitchen... at the batter still somehow untouched on the counter… the oven, which hadn’t even been preheated yet…
“Do you just want to eat the batter?”
“Let me get some spoons.”
A few hours later, Adrien walked in… only to stop short when he saw his wife and new kid there, covered in cooking ingredients. Dick had fallen asleep with his head on her shoulder. She was fine with this, there was still some batter left.
“Um…?”
“Brownies are cursed,” she told him, then she took another spoonful.
“What?” Said a bewildered and still half-asleep Adrien.
She looked her husband dead in the eye as she pulled the spoon from her mouth with a tiny ‘pop’.
“Brownies are cursed.”
~
Adrien felt bad homeschooling the kid.
Really, it had brought him a lot of grief growing up. He hadn’t known anyone besides Chloe and Kagami until he was twelve years old.
But, as it turned out, Dick really needed to be homeschooled.
On top of just… having no formal education whatsoever and his general knowledge being a toss of the dice, it was also the middle of the school year and everyone knows you can’t just dump new kids into a class halfway through.
Adrien tipped his head back against his chair and closed his eyes.
Dick was taking a test to see what he had to teach him, but he wasn’t concerned about the kid cheating. What was he going to do? Sneak away, grab a textbook, and start flipping through it without him noticing?
He sighed.
The kid was… weird.
He was always smiling, always in motion, always affectionate. It was something they’d figured out quickly, but it had taken longer to notice that he was only like that when he was talking about things he actually wanted to. If they asked how he was doing, because it had only really been a week since it had happened, he would clam up and start semi-subtly shifting the conversation away.
He was avoiding his problems. And Marinette and Adrien really didn’t know what to do. He had stolen their unhealthy coping mechanism and now they were forced to stand back and watch as the kid destroyed himself the same way they did. And they knew it was a terrible coping mechanism, even Dick might have known it, but what were they supposed to do? They had been around much longer and they hadn’t found a better mechanism, what could they do for Dick?
He peeked an eye open and looked at the kid, who was chewing on the end of his pen as he thought through the question he was on.
… damn, he was actually going to have to learn how to cope, huh?
So, that afternoon, he passed Dick off to Marinette like a baton in a relay race and took a bus to the bookstore.
The psychology section was huge and filled to the brim with case studies. It was honestly daunting to look at. Instead, he made his way to the clerk.
The woman looked him up and down once. “Rough week?”
“You have no idea,” he muttered. “Can I have some recommendations for books on adoption, parenting, and coping with trauma? And also a highlighter, that would probably help.”
He skimmed through the parenting and adoption books. He and Marinette had already done this a few years back when they had first been considering kids, he was mostly just getting a refresher.
And then he turned to the five books on coping mechanisms he’d bought.
He took a deep breath and started looking methodically reading his way through it, highlighter in hand.
The next day, he found Dick, who was drumming his fingers on the table as he glared at the textbook in front of him.
Adrien had some suspicions about the kid in front of him, though he wasn’t absolutely sure yet. Still, he figured he should test his theory.
Besides, it would also help keep the kid safe and physical activity was one of the things a book on coping mechanisms had suggested.
Multi-tasking!
Or maybe it was just efficiency…
Whatever!
He smiled. “Hey, kid, want to try something different for today’s lesson?”
Dick looked up, frowning. “Like what?”
“Well… how do you feel about learning self-defense?”
~
“Where are you going?” Asked Dick with a tiny frown as she started bustling around the living room in search of her shoes.
“Uh… work!” She said.
They’d both agreed that telling Dick that she was going to go do the exact job his parents had just died in was a terrible idea, so they’d thought up a cover story… too bad she couldn’t think of it at the moment. She finally saw her shoes tucked under the couch and dove down to grab them, then sent her kid a smile.
“Have a good day, sweetie, I’ll see you later,” she said, walking over and pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
She ducked out the door and started running all over again. Her eyes found their way to her watch. It was a tryout and she was going to be late…
But she wasn’t.
Barely.
She stumbled inside with one minute to spare, panting, and it took everything in her not to slump over the nearest bench and die.
“Hi,” she wheezed at Haly, who raised his eyebrows slightly at her.
“You’re really cutting it close, here. Have anything to say for yourself?”
She rested a hand over her heart as if that would somehow bring it back to normal. “I need a fucking car.”
Haly paused, then nodded. “That explains that. I’ll let you off with a warning that you should try not to be late again.”
“Oka --.” She stopped, and then looked at him. “I got the job?”
He shrugged and pointed around at the empty tent. “You’re the only one here.”
Wow. She’d suspected that people would be less than eager to take the job offer, but to be the only person…
Well, she figured that she should just be thankful. That made things much easier.
She smiled faintly. “Cool. Should I still show you my skills and everything?”
He motioned to the trapeze. There was a net under it. The man had learned his lesson, at least. “Please.”
It turns out that being Ladybug is really helpful when you want to be a trapeze artist.
Actually, she found that being a trapeze artist was actually easier in some ways. Instead of having to hold tight to one thin string when swinging around, she was able to get a proper grip on a bar.
It was a lot of fun. Recently, she’d been using her cane more. Having a yoyo was impractical as a weapon when people were firing guns, so she’d more or less stopped using it. She’d almost forgotten what it was like to feel the wind in her hair. It was calming...
Also, she got to show off, which was always fun.
She stopped after a few minor tricks and gave a bow to Haly, who seemed to just be glad that she actually had an idea of what she was doing.
“You’ll need about a month of training before you do any shows. Do you have any other expertise?”
She shook her head. It was a lie, she would probably be good with aerial silks or contortionism, but she felt some weird need to do the trapeze…
Just then, her phone buzzed.
She glanced at it and read the news headline.
She groaned and turned to Haly. “Can I have a minute? I need to take this.”
The man nodded.
She scowled as she stepped out and dialled a number.
“NYGMA.”
“Ladybug!” Riddler said cheerfully. She could hear a woman sobbing in the background. “What’s up? Did you see the news?”
“Yes, I saw. I’m at a job interview!”
The smile in the man’s voice disappeared as he spoke next: “Oh, I’m sorry. I can reschedule the death trap.”
“YOU CAN, CAN YOU?”
“Yep! How does tomorrow sound?”
She squeezed her eyes shut and forced herself to relax. “I can do tomorrow. Thank you. And let go of the poor lady, will you?”
“Fiiiiine.”
She hung up on him and then stepped back inside, giving Haly her brightest smile.
“I can start working in two days, if that sounds good to you.”
~
Adrien hesitated.
Really, he should be getting Marinette to train Dick on self-defense. They had similar movement styles…
But his hunch had been right. This kid seemed to learn a lot better when he was multitasking and, as much as he loved his wife, he didn’t think her English was good enough to teach someone else.
And, besides, he wanted to spend time with his kid, dang it!
He stopped Dick before he could throw another punch at the dummy to fix his form. “I know putting power into it is hard when you’re so little, but you need to rotate your hips so you can get at least some kind of force behind it.”
The kid pouted. “But this is so boooooooring. It’s just the same thing over and over again! I want to do cool stuff!”
“Not yet. You have to understand the basics before you start messing with it.”
Dick gave another pout, this time adding puppy-dog eyes, but, unfortunately for him, Adrien had never been fond of dogs. He raised his eyebrows, unimpressed.
The kid groaned and started punching the pads again.
“I before E, except after C, or when sounding like A, as in neighbor and…”
~
It didn’t take long for Marinette to notice The Guy.
She had a pretty good vantage point from the ladder to her trapeze. She would stop at the top, her hands up in a salute, and pause for ‘dramatic effect’.
Her eyes flicked over the crowd and locked on the face of The Guy.
He was at every show, his face pulled into a bored frown as he rested his head on his hand. He’d sit there the whole time, watching the same performance over and over again, and then leave the moment the show was over.
She pursed her lips for half a second before bringing her face back to its smile.
She’d brought a camera this time. This time she’d be able to get his face so she and Adrien could get information on him.
But, for now, she concentrated on making the first jump to the trapeze…
She sat down after her act, still breathing heavily. She was in shape… but, kwami, that kind of stuff is hard! Still, she couldn’t help but smile. She hadn’t been challenged in a while. It was kind of fun.
She wondered, vaguely, if this was what she’d be doing if she hadn’t gone back into crime fighting.
Marinette pushed that thought from her head as she downed her water. It wasn’t the time. She only had a few more minutes before she was on again for the outro. She needed the picture now.
She grabbed her camera from her locker and snuck her way to the stands, and pointed her camera --.
The Guy had spotted her. He looked directly at her camera, his face set in an even deeper frown than usual.
She quickly snapped the picture, then darted back behind the curtain. Her heart beat wildly in her chest. Shit! Shitshitshit --!
Okay. Breathe.
He wasn’t going to just kill her. If the way they’d offed the Graysons was any indication, they didn’t want to draw too much attention to the circus. It was unfortunate what had happened, but not suspicious. However, the trapeze was new and there was a net. An accident like that couldn’t happen again.
No, they’d probably wait until after the show. That would be fine. She could deal with that. At least then she could stall until she had energy by waiting with someone.
She felt a hand tap her shoulder and looked over at the contortionist. “Time?”
“Time,” he said simply.
She hid the camera and ran out with him, smiling like she wasn’t about to face off with a mobster.
Two hours later, she stepped into her train car and crossed her arms over her chest. “Right, I know you’re in here,” she said quietly.
Or, at least, she hoped so. Because otherwise she would be looking a little silly --.
Wait, a knife pressed to her neck. Maybe she wished she was wrong.
She clicked her tongue and leaned into her attacker, closing her eyes. “You Americans still say ‘yo’, right?”
The Guy tensed a little under her, and then whispered a confused, “No…?”
She huffed. “Damn. Why do you change your greetings so often? Whatever. Kaalki, a little help would be nice.”
“Who --?” Began The Guy, but he was quickly cut off.
Because a portal opened under them and dumped them into a back alley in Gotham.
Marinette grinned and grabbed his arm, using his confusion to lean forward and flip him over her shoulder. He cursed as his back hit the ground and the blade clattered to the floor.
She grabbed it nonchalantly and her eyes flicked over the hilt.
A name was engraved there.
Zucco.
“You mob people make this too easy. Now, tell me everything you know.”
He glared up at her. “They’ll kill me!”
“And what gave you the impression that I wouldn’t?” She twirled the knife in her fingers. “Quickly, please, I have a kid to get back to.”
A half hour later, he had spilled everything he knew.
And his guts…
She rolled off of him and glanced at the bloodied dagger in her hand. Her nose scrunched up as she dropped it beside him. There. Now it looked like a mob hit.
She pushed herself to her feet and dusted herself off, only to groan at the sight of the blood staining her front.
She gave the corpse a kick as she cursed him out:
“Asshole. I liked these clothes!”
~
He smiled as he pulled his wife into his side.
Dick had finally gone to bed, so it was just them two. For once.
Marinette had a show in an hour that she needed to portal back for, and Adrien needed to go out as Chat Noir soon, but they didn’t want to get up just yet.
She yawned and curled closer to him. “I guess…” She yawned again. “I guess I should tell you what I found out. Which is basically nothing. Apparently, hardly anyone has ever seen Zucco in person, just the higher ups. He just sends people to do his bidding.”
He groaned and buried his face in her hair. “Great. Did you at least give the sample to Nygma when you saw him yesterday?”
“Obviously.” Her watch beeped and she mumbled a curse. “Alright, I have to go.”
“Nooooooo.”
“Yeeees,” she said, gently pushing his chest until he let go. She stretched out a bit and then walked to the bedroom door.
It swung open before she even touched the knob.
Dick was standing in the doorway, hugging a Chat Noir doll to his chest. “I had a nightmare. Can I sleep with you guys?”
Marinette glanced at her watch and then at the kid and then at her watch again.
“Or are you guys both going out again?”
Adrien winced. “You noticed that?”
“It’s, like, every night,” he said irritably. He sighed and wiped his eyes a little bit. “Fine. I’ll just go lay down again.”
She bit her lip and then leaned down to look him in the eyes. “I’ll be back in four hours, okay, sweetie? Can you handle that?”
Dick looked at the ground. “Sure.”
Marinette grimaced. “I’m sorry.” She pressed a kiss to his forehead. “I’ll be back soon.”
They could hear the coatrack hit the ground in her hurry to grab her jacket and get out the door.
Adrien sighed and looked at Dick, who was still standing in the doorway.
He really should be going on patrol. The people of Gotham had begun to notice that Chat Noir and Ladybug had been showing up less frequently. Crime rates were rising…
He laid back in bed and opened his arms. “I won’t leave. Come here.”
Dick gave a tiny smile, though it seemed a little forced. Still, he got into bed and curled up in Adrien’s arms.
“Would you like to talk about it?” He tried.
“No.”
He sighed. “You’re going to have to talk about it, eventually. Avoiding it is just going to make it harder to deal with later.”
“Nope.”
He gave a tiny laugh. Dang. This kid really was just them but younger. Now all he needed was a miraculous and he’d be a perfect mini version of them…
“Where do you guys even go?” Asked Dick, his voice muffled in Adrien’s chest.
“Work,” he said after a few minutes’ deliberation.
“I thought you didn’t really have jobs.”
He laughed quietly. “Marinette has a million jobs, and I have my one. Though we don’t really get paid for what we do most of the time.”
“Why do you do it, then?”
Adrien raised his eyebrows slightly, then gave a tiny shrug. “Why did you do the trapeze?”
He’d meant for it to be a rhetorical question, meant for it to be something that would make Dick change the subject, so it was a complete surprise when the kid whispered: “It was all that I knew.”
Internally, he was screaming. It was happening! Finally! He had opened up a little bit!
Externally, he nodded and rubbed circles into the kid’s back. “Hopefully, we can make it so it’s not all you know. Help you branch out a little bit while you’re here.”
He felt tiny hands clutch the back of his shirt. “Can’t do that when you’re always gone.”
“I know,” he mumbled, closing his eyes. “I’m sorry.”
They stayed in silence for a long time. Adrien was pretty sure that Dick had fallen asleep, but he wasn’t going to move. The kid had noticed that they were gone often, but the two of them had always made sure to wait until he had fallen asleep to leave. He had to be waking up at least once a night, so…
He held the kid close to his chest.
A few hours later, the door creaked open.
Adrien opened an eye blearily and saw Marinette get into bed. He lifted an arm for Marinette to join the cuddle and smiled faintly when she actually did.
He let himself drift off.
~
A few days later, Marinette and Adrien came back from patrols to find Dick talking to the kwamis. All of them gave sounds of surprise when they saw the two vigilantes in the door and disappeared except for Trixx, who turned and fixed their purple eyes on them.
Marinette pursed her lips tightly for a second, considering what to say, and then decided on: “What the fuck, guys?”
Adrien removed his arm from around her waist so he could bury his face in his hands.
Trixx smiled. “It’s not what it looks like. He found us.”
“He…” She pinched the bridge of her nose. “So… you’re telling me that this kid pushed our bed aside, pulled up the exact right floorboard, and pulled out the miracle box...”
“... yes.”
“Forgive me for being skeptical, but I’m not buying it.”
Dick pouted and hugged the tiny fox to his chest. “Are you mad at her?”
Marinette hesitated.
Before Dick had known about the kwamis, they had a chance of giving him back. They would have been able to find better parents for him, been able to give him a genuinely good life. But now… they couldn’t risk giving him up. The reason they’d taken him in in the first place was that he was relatively loose-lipped. Now that he knew something so important, there was no way in hell that they could risk him ever telling anyone.
Of course, she doubted they would have been able to give up Dick anyways. She’d grown annoyingly attached to the kid, he was sweet and generally made her life a little more fun, but now there wasn’t an option at all.
Still, this part of their lives… beyond needing to keep things a secret, it was extremely dangerous to involve a kid in this kind of thing.
Adrien answered first: “No, we’re not mad. Just… this wasn’t exactly the plan.”
“And what was the plan? Never telling me that we have a bunch of… what did they call themselves? Kwamis? Whatever, they’re gods. There are just gods living in our house!”
Marinette shrugged. “We weren’t telling you because we didn’t want you to get dragged into this part of our lives, sweetie.”
Dick huffed. “And are there any other secrets that I should know about?”
“They’re Ladybug and Chat Noir,” supplied Trixx.
“TRIXX?!”
“WHAT THE FUCK?!”
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY’RE CHAT NOIR AND LADYBUG?!”
The fox kwami laughed and disappeared.
Marinette scowled. “I know you’re still here, Trixx, where are you? I will hunt you.”
“Please, Mari, you don’t need to do that. Just get the fox miraculous and summon her here, it’s much easier.”
“Smart.”
“WHY HAVE YOU STILL NOT DENIED IT?!”
Marinette and Adrien looked at each other awkwardly.
Well… the secret was out.
She opened her purse and he opened his jacket, and their kwamis slowly poked their heads out to look at Dick.
Poor kid was not prepared.
He covered his eyes with his hands and took a few deep breaths. “So… I… wow…”
Well, she supposed there could be worse reactions.
“Wait, so are you investigating what happened with my parents?”
Like that. That was a worse reaction. Fuck.
Marinette carefully took a seat on the floor by her kid. Adrien sat down as well.
“We’re working on it,” she said carefully. “I’m following a lead and I got help from a… an associate of ours.”
Adrien nodded. “It will take a while. It’s just the two of us -- and Nygma, I guess -- so it’s not going to be done quickly.”
Dick removed his hands from his eyes and looked at them both. “I want to help.”
“No,” said both adults instantly.
“But --.”
“Nope,” said Marinette.
“I --.”
Adrien held up his hands. “Not allowed.”
Dick pouted and crossed his arms over his chest. “Why not? They’re my parents.”
Marinette shook her head slowly. “It has nothing to do with that. You’re a kid, we can’t just let you fight crime.”
“Oh? And when did you start fighting crime?”
“Eighteen,” said Marinette, which technically wasn’t a lie…
Which means it was unfortunate that Adrien gave a more accurate answer: “I was twelve, she was thirteen.”
She groaned and rested her head in her hands. “Damn it, Adrien.”
“So, when I’m twelve, can I join you guys?”
Marinette pursed her lips tightly. She didn’t want to be a hypocrite, but she also didn’t want to let an actual kid fight crime. She had fought crime as a kid, it had messed her up. She wasn’t eager to pass that on to someone else…
But…
“Fine. How about this: if we don’t solve it by the time you’re twelve you can join us for that case specifically.”
Dick pouted a little, but seemed to understand. “Okay.”
She and Adrien met eyes. They had three years to solve this case before Dick would get involved, and they couldn’t let that happen.
But it was three years.
How hard could it be?
~
He and Marinette sat on the floor in front of the miracle box, sorting the miraculi into two different piles: ‘Will Protect’ and ‘Can’t Protect’.
Once that was done, they started sifting through the ‘Will Protect’ pile.
“Turtle?” Marinette said.
Adrien shook his head. “Doesn’t fit his fighting style. Bee?”
She shuddered. “Don’t need another Chloe. Snake?”
They tipped their heads from side to side as they considered it, but then Trixx piped up: “I’m right here, y’know.”
The two vigilantes jumped out of their skin. Then they glared at the kwami.
“Must you always sneak up on us?”
“Yes. Anyways, I’m the best fit for the kid and you know it.”
Marinette pursed her lips. Adrien raised his eyebrows.
It was true. From the moment they’d started considering giving Dick a miraculous (because, even if they doubted he was ever going to get to that point, they figured they should at least make sure he was safe), they’d both been eyeing the fox miraculous…
Thing was…
“You’re just going to tell him more of our secrets,” he complained, sighing.
Trixx crossed their paws over their chest. “Do you really have any other secrets you care about?”
They considered this for a minute, before Marinette clicked her tongue.
“Fine. Fine! Adrien, you’ll need to train him on his powers, your secondary powers are closer than mine. I’ll take up sparring to teach him a fight style that better matches his circus training.”
Adrien pouted and fell back until his head hit her lap. “You don’t think I was teaching him well enough? Because our fight styles and training were completely different? I’m wounded, M’lady. I’ll never recover.”
She leaned down and pressed a kiss to his lips.
He smiled. “I’ve been cured.”
She clicked her tongue.
Adrien smiled…
And then her watch beeped. He groaned and wrapped his arms around her, burying his face in her stomach. “Nooooo, don’t gooooooooooo.”
“I can’t just not go, Chaton.”
“Why nooooot? It would be so easy.”
She slowly peeled his arms off of her, smiling fondly. “Relax. I’ll be back later. Hang out with… with Di --... Nope. With the kid. Maybe train him a little in his powers or whatever.”
He laid on the floor with a pout as he watched her leave, and then looked down at the necklace in his hands.
Well, he supposed he might as well. What else could he do? Protect the city? Nah.
He walked to his kid’s room and rolled his eyes when he saw the kid standing with his ear pressed to the wall.
“Hello?”
Dick’s face reddened and he turned to Adrien with a bright smile. “It’s not what it looks like.”
Wow, he really was a good fit for Trixx.
He sighed and offered the necklace. “You’re not in trouble. C’mon, we’re going to teach you to use these powers.”
Trixx floated over to rest on Dick’s shoulder and Adrien waved him along to the training room.
Adrien held up a hand before walking to the window and quickly shutting the curtains.
He smiled as the kid transformed.
Adrien stretched lazily. “Right, on your back right now is a flute. It… works like a flute. You can play music with it if you want, and also hit people with it if you want. It also summons your power.”
Dick nodded and pulled it off his back. “What can I do?”
“You play a note and envision an illusion of some sort. The limit is just your imagination.”
“Like a Green Lantern?”
“I… kind of. You just have illusions, if you touch them they disappear.”
“That sucks.”
“I guess. Alright, so you’re probably going to have side-effects.”
He watched the kid’s eyes widen and rushed to explain: “It usually isn’t bad. Just weird. It’s why I like to sit on counters and why Mari’s always so cold. It also changes looks a little. Like… Mari has a lot more white in her eyes and my hair has those two little tufts that I have to gel down.”
Dick’s shoulders relaxed a little. “Okay. So… powers.”
“Yep.”
He pulled out his flute.
Adrien smiled. “Right, let’s start simple. The main thing you need is a clear vision. I’m going to close my eyes and you’re going to make something appear in the room. If you’re doing it right then it should appear real, if not then we’ll figure out what’s going wrong.”
He closed his eyes and waited for a few seconds after he heard the shrill note of the flute. Then he opened his eyes.
And came face to face with a giant, bright pink inflatable elephant.
“I…”
Dick grinned. “Think we should address the elephant in the room?”
He blinked once, then broke into a matching grin. “You’re what’s been missing from my life. Oh my kwami. That was beautiful.”
Then he actually went to inspect the elephant. It was pretty good. The lighting was a little off but it wasn’t plainly obvious it was fake, if he wasn’t paying attention he doubted he would’ve noticed. That made sense. Powers were usually pretty instinctual.
He nodded slowly. “Now try something that makes sound.”
Dick brought the flute to his lips and played another note.
He had expected the elephant to disappear and get replaced by something. Instead, it let out a high whine as the air in it slipped out of a new gash on its side.
Adrien smiled.
“Nice.” He sighed and let his smile lessen. Now for the reason they had thought the fox miraculous could be used for protection: “Okay. Make yourself disappear.”
He got a frown for that one. “Sorry?”
“It’s… you’re still a kid. You need to know how to cloak yourself so you don’t get hurt. We can’t really stop you from coming with us in an ethical way, but we need to at least make sure you’ll be okay if you come along.”
Dick frowned. “I thought you were going to let me help.”
“In three years. If we haven’t already solved this case yet. And if we think that you’re going to be able to handle it.”
“But --.”
“We were heroes at a young age. True. We weren’t ready for it, though, and we don’t want to screw up a kid in the same way we were screwed up. That’s the whole thing about having kids, we want you to have a better life than we did.”
The kid gave an annoyed expression before bringing his flute to his lips. With a shrill note, the annoyed face disappeared.
Adrien tipped his head from side to side as he considered this. He was pretty sure that he could sense something off, but he wasn’t sure if that was just his mind messing with him because he knew that Dick was there…
He walked towards where he’d last seen him to make sure and then stopped short when he realized what was off. His feet weren’t making any sound.
There wasn’t any sound at all, actually.
“You’ve done too much. You got rid of all sound, not just your own.”
Dick appeared, a grin on his face.
“This is boring. Can we make it into a game? Like hide-n-seek?”
Adrien hesitated, then shrugged. “Don’t see why not.” He brought his hands up to cover his eyes. “Thirty… twenty-nine…”
~
She hummed absently as she and Dick stretched to warm up.
She was a little jealous, if she was honest, he was way more flexible than she was even though he was out of practice and she wasn’t. She’d been stretching before this kid was even born. How dare he still be more flexible than her.
Still, she rolled to her feet and offered him a hand up.
Dick’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly and he did a backhandspring from the floor.
How the fuck?
But she wasn’t going to act like this was an amazing thing. She was already bitter enough about his flexibility, admitting that he was also better at gymnastics would be even worse.
Instead, she grinned. “Hey, kid, what should we call you?”
He thought for a minute, taking his flute out and twirling it in his hand like a baton. “Robin?”
“I…” She held up a finger to say ‘one minute’ and then pulled out her phone. After a quick google search to make sure they were talking about the same animal, she gave her kid a confused look. “You’re a fox.”
“Yes.”
“Robins are birds.”
“Yes.”
She opened her mouth, then closed it again. She really didn’t know why she asked a kid who called himself ‘Dick’ to name himself. Really, she should have expected this.
Marinette shrugged to herself. “Fine. I’m just gonna keep calling you ‘sweetie’.”
“Okay!” He stopped twirling his flute and pointed it at Marinette. “So, you’re going to teach me to use my circus training for fighting?”
She sighed and pulled out her cane, leaning against it. “Right. I’ll need to check to see how well you know the basics, first, though.”
Dick groaned. “I’m ready. I feel like I’ve been ready for ages!”
“I know, I know, but I need to make sure, okay?”
He gave her an annoyed look.
Marinette pursed her lips tightly. “Okay. Fine.” She dropped her cane. “Spar with me.”
Dick’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
“Yep. You’ll have first swing and I won't get a weapon.”
True to her word, she let him have the first swing. She dodged and grabbed his arm, then pressed her foot to the middle of his back. He hit the ground with a groan. She pulled the flute from his hand and sent him a tired glare.
“You got lucky,” said Dick, his voice muffled against the floor.
She pulled him back to his feet. “No, you’re a child and I’ve been fighting for years. Like pretty much everyone else you’re going to fight. Which means that we can’t rush your training, okay? You have years before we let you into the field, if we do, so…”
He brushed himself off with a bitter expression.
“Fine. We drill basics.”
~
Riddler grinned, spinning around in his chair.
“Ladybug and Chat Noi --.” He stopped short, his eyes widening as they spotted something behind them. “What the heck? You guys brought a kid to this?”
He glanced behind himself and cringed lightly. He reached out and gently pulled Dick behind himself a little. Nygma had never been one for random attacks, but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to make sure that this kid was safe.
And why had they brought him?
Marinette clicked her tongue once in annoyance. “Hey, sweetie, show the nice man your powers for a second.”
Dick brought his flute to his lips. With one high note he was gone.
Yep. They were really regretting giving him that miraculous right about then. They hadn’t even realized that he was coming along until Adrien had missed a jump and realized that his bones hadn’t audibly cracked like they usually did when he messed up like that.
He reappeared with a fox-like grin playing across his thin lips.
(Or maybe they just thought it was fox-like because he was currently dressed as a fox. Who knows.)
Riddler considered this for a minute, then nodded. “I understand now.”
Adrien sighed. “Yep.”
Marinette pulled out her yoyo and summoned a coloring book and some crayons. Dick beamed and plopped down on the floor to color.
The parents smiled fondly at their kid and then turned to Riddler.
“Now, you have news?” Adrien said.
“Good news and bad news.”
The adults looked at each other and gave tiny shrugs.
“Good news first,” said Marinette.
“Good news is that there’s only one person who supplies that specific acid.”
Adrien’s eyebrows knit together. That sounded good, but…
“Bad news is that she’s pretty popular. Over two-hundred customers popular.”
Ah. There it was.
Marinette covered Dick’s ears so she could curse.
Adrien, however, shrugged. “Do you have a list of her customers?”
Riddler nodded slowly. “Of course. I’ll forward it to you guys.”
“Thanks for the help, Nygma. See you in a few months.” With that, Marinette picked up Dick and held him to her hip.
“I’ll get you with the next one!”
“Mhmm. Sure.”
Adrien gave an apologetic smile and a friendly wave as he hurried out after his wife.
~
Marinette hummed absently as she pulled her jacket on, then froze up when she heard a gun click behind her head.
“Turn around. Slowly.”
She pulled a smile to her face and held her hands up in a kind of surrender, then turned around.
Wow. This man looked exactly like how gangsters looked in movies. She probably would have laughed if he wasn’t pointing a gun at her.
And, even with the gun pointed at her, she had to suppress a smile.
“Who are you?” He asked.
She frowned. “Shouldn’t I be asking that of you, sir? You’re the one attacking the random trapeze artist.”
“You’ve killed every single man I’ve sent in here to make sure everything was going to plan.”
“Maybe you should’ve sent a woman. We apparently get the job done better.”
“Who. Are. You?”
“Marinette Agreste, but I’m sure you knew that. Otherwise you wouldn’t know that I’ve killed ‘every single man you’ve sent here’.”
He scowled. “That wasn’t what I was asking and you know it.”
“Do I? Maybe you should be clearer,” she said. “Or, you could just tell me your name and I promise I would be much more compliant.”
The man seemed to consider this for a minute, his face tinged red with annoyance. She tried to push down the twinge of satisfaction. Even if this wasn’t Zucco, he at least had to be pretty high up and was likely the person who had ordered the goons to kill Dick’s parents. This bitch deserved all the hell she gave him, in her not-so-humble opinion.
“Giovanni,” he said carefully.
She smiled. “See? Was that so hard? Now, who am I...? I don’t know. I sometimes fight people. What else is there to say?”
He didn’t seem amused. “Why are you killing all my men?”
“I wouldn’t have to if they didn’t notice me noticing them every time. It’s getting very annoying. Send less observant people.”
Her eyes caught Kaalki’s. The kwami was hiding in a duffel bag that had been left open and she gave a tiny shrug to say go.
The man gave a scream as a portal sliced his hand off.
Marinette hummed absently and leaned down to pick up the gun. She pried the hand off of the gun and tossed it aside.
“WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK --.”
“I know, I know, it hurts, but could you be quieter?” She rubbed the side of her head. “Right, I have a few questions about Zucco.”
“He’d kill m --.”
“Yes. Yes, he would. But maybe you should concern yourself less with him, who has already made up his mind about killing you, and more about me, who’s still mulling it over.”
An hour later she stepped out of the changing room, humming as she tossed the gun back over her shoulder lazily.
“Haly?” She yelled, and smiled when his head popped out from his train care.
He looked stunned for a moment before he pulled himself together. “Yes?”
“I’m quitting. It’s been fun, though!”
She bit her lip as she strode out into the night.
Well, if she wasn’t already on Zucco’s radar she definitely would be now.
Greeeeaaaat.
~
It’s hard to look into people when you’re on the run from the mob.
They’d done everything they could think of. Marinette had withdrawn everything from their accounts, Adrien had altered all their appearances, Dick had... come along.
And it turns out tracking down 237 people is hard or something. Who knew.
You have to:
Figure out whether or not the person you’re after has pseuds. In order to do this you have to track their income patterns. This requires pretty high tech stuff, which they were generally trying to avoid because of the whole ‘mob out to get them’ thing.
Then, if they do have pseuds, you have to find all their assets. Then you have to go and check every single safehouse to see if it is, in fact, Zucco or someone working for him. It’s not fun. Most people in the mob are trained to not tell secrets no matter what, and getting to the point where you can get that information is… time consuming.
And they didn’t have time.
They glared at the remaining names. Dick was turning twelve tomorrow. They hadn’t even realized it because time was getting fuzzy again, but then they had come home to him hanging upside down from one of the lights on the ceiling and chanting about how close his birthday was.
After checking to make sure their kid hadn’t somehow gotten high or drunk, because what the heck, they had flown into a panic about how much work they still had to do.
“What’re the ethics of killing all 92 people tonight?” She asked, leaning back against her husband as he clicked through files.
“Even if we could, I’d say it’s probably frowned upon.”
She groaned and closed her eyes, then opened them again to glare at the papers in front of her. “How much you wanna bet that the very first one we choose after the kid joins us is going to be the right one?”
“Knowing our luck? That’s definitely going to happen.”
She gave a bitter laugh before pushing herself back up. “I’m going to break into a bakery to make a cake.”
“Cupcakes. You know he’s going to want to spend the day out in the field looking for answers, we might as well have food we can travel with.”
She clicked her tongue but nodded.
He fell back on the bed and glared at the list. He should have said they started at eighteen...
~
Well, at least it hadn’t been the first person that they’d looked into with Dick.
It had been the second.
After… ‘interogating’ the guy they’d found, they’d been given the name of this cruise ship and where it often docked. Then Dick had given them all cover so they could sneak on undetected.
And now night had hit. The three of them sat, perched on a railing as they observed the goons below them.
She watched Adrien send a wave before disappearing to take out the captain and destroy anything that could be used to contact land.
She turned to the kid next to her and reached out to ruffle his hair. “Ready, sweetie?”
Dick gave a slightly nervous smile before pulling out his flute.
“You’re only allowed to get involved if I’m dying, remember?”
He nodded, though she got the feeling that the kid wasn’t listening. Or, rather, he was listening and just opting not to take the words to heart.
She clicked her tongue once. Then she began walking along the outer edges of the ship, Dick trailing along behind her. She twirled her yoyo absently. They needed to get to the private quarters, as she was pretty sure that Zucco wouldn’t be anywhere else (he sent people out to do all his work, there was no way he was doing any work on his ship).
Then she heard laughter.
She looked up and scowled at the three henchmen who were leaning over the side of the railing above them.
“Oh my god, Ladybug has a kid!”
Her yoyo came to a stop. “Hilarious, I know.”
“Kinda! I mean the most deadly vigilantes in the world have a little kid trailing around like a lost puppy! That’s so good!”
She pressed her lips together tightly. “Mhmm. Please, tell me more...”
“Gonna say ‘or else’? Or else what? You’re going to change our diapers?”
She nodded slowly, then turned to Dick. She pressed a kiss to the top of his head. She opted to ignore the way the three roared with laughter above her at the action, instead concentrating on him.
“Sweetie, I want you to cover your eyes for a second, please. I’ll tell you when you can look again, okay?”
He nodded and brought his hands to his eyes.
She wheeled on the criminals, whose laughter was quickly dying.
“Oops,” said one of them, his voice so quiet she’d barely heard it.
But she did. And she fought off some laughter of her own. “‘Oops’ is right.”
Three minutes later, she smiled and pulled Dick’s hands away from his eyes.
“Hey, sweetie, how’re you feeling?”
He glanced behind her and she winced, expecting him to become horrified, but then he suddenly tossed his flute.
There was a satisfying ‘thunk’ as it made contact with the guy’s head and he fell over the side.
Marinette looked at Dick and gave him a tiny smile. He beamed in return.
“Thanks for the save.”
“No problem.”
She tossed her yoyo and recovered his flute for him, then took his hand. She led her kid through the ship.
~
When he caught up with them, Adrien smiled and rested a hand over the top of the kid’s head. “I found out where the private quarters are.”
“Really?”
“Yep. Follow me.”
The three of them went along in silence. Whenever they passed someone they’d casually knock them over the side. They might live that way.
But probably not.
Still, it was relatively easy.
They walked along the private quarters, poking their head in doors and then closing them.
Eventually, they came to the most grandiose-looking cabin. Really, they should have checked it first, but whatever. Marinette, Adrien, and Dick all gave each other wary looks before Adrien kicked the door open.
The poor guy had been asleep. Sucks.
Zucco looked up slowly and then gasped, reaching under his pillow and pulling out a gun.
Ah. Now that sucks for them.
Dick gave a high-pitched whine.
Marinette and Adrien instantly reached for Dick to push him behind them, only to stop short when their hands passed through clean air. They turned to look, confused expressions on their faces, only to find that the kid was gone.
Uh…
They frowned slightly and looked around. Their faces drained of color when they found their way back to where Zucco was.
Or, rather, had been. Because he was missing, too.
Marinette cursed beside him and Adrien felt like punching a wall. Dick hadn’t been making that noise because he was scared, he’d been making that noise because he’d been creating an illusion.
They had to stop Dick before he did something he would regret.
Their eyes searched the room desperately, their ears strained. There had to be something off. Dick and Zucco hadn’t left, Marinette and Adrien were covering too much of the door for both of them to squeeze past without the illusion breaking, so they were still in the cabin.
Marinette pursed her lips tightly and pulled the door shut, then lopped off the doorknob with her yoyo.
Adrien nodded and they began to shuffle through the room.
It was needlessly huge, but there was a lot of stuff in it. A bed, a mostly untouched kitchen area, a bathroom with a jacuzzi, a possibly real treasure chest, a vanity…
He knocked his staff against things absently. It should reveal illusions…
Where was this kid?
He kicked some jewelry on the floor in irritation and then blinked when they hit the wall nearby without a sound.
Wait a minute…
He swung his staff in a large circle around him and couldn’t help but wince when he hit something that he couldn’t see. The illusion shattered and Dick groaned in pain as he stumbled off of Zucco, holding his side where Adrien had hit him.
But, for once, Adrien wasn’t looking at the kid. His eyes found their way to the floor, where Zucco had curled up. He was beaten and bloody, bruises starting to form on his pale skin.
“Robin…” He whispered, looking at Dick.
Dick was crying, the blunt end of his flute bloodied.
Adrien walked over and carefully pulled the flute from his hands and then drew him into his chest. “You can’t kill him.”
“But --!”
“No buts.” Marinette gave Zucco a kick to the head to make sure he was down before joining the hug.
“But you kill people!”
“And we’re also adults. When you’re an adult you can kill people, too.”
“M’lady…”
She winced a little. “Yeah, I hear it. But… anyways, sweetie, we can’t let a kid kill anyone. Killing… it messes with you. We don’t want that life for you.”
Adrien sighed. “You’re a kid. You can’t kill someone, it’s not good for your psyche. Leave that kind of thing to us.”
Dick took a shaky breath, and then nodded.
They’d been right to not want to include him in this. Vigilantism wasn’t healthy for kids.
And they especially shouldn’t have brought Dick along for this part, they should have expected that something like this would happen. He was too close to the case.
He swallowed thickly and hugged him closer.
Marinette pulled away carefully. She hummed, grabbing Zucco by the back of his nightshirt and dragging him away.
He gently rubbed circle’s into the kid’s back. “You want some ice cream? I think there’s still some at home…”
Dick giggled a little. “That ice cream is so expired.”
“You don’t know that!”
“It’s been, like, three years.”
Adrien sighed. “Okay, maybe, but hush.”
He pulled away slightly from the kid and wiped some stray tears from his cheeks.
“Want to go home anyways?”
Dick smiled faintly and nodded.
~
She dropped back on the bed and smiled as she curled in the blankets. The night had been… interesting… but at least she was home now.
She felt tiny hands wrap around her and her smile widened as she felt a face bury itself in her stomach.
But then her smile lessened. She slowly combed her fingers through the kid’s hair.
“I need your miraculous back, sweetie.”
“No. I want to keep doing it.”
She gave Adrien a pleading look and he sighed, slipping into bed and wrapping his arms around them. “She’s right. We don’t want —.”
“And what about what I want?”
It definitely wasn’t an angle they’d considered. They’d been very concerned about the kid ending up like them (they had given up on trying to fix themselves a long time ago, but they were still self aware of the fact that they didn’t cope healthily). But… what if they were too late? The kid had already been exhibiting signs of their bad coping mechanisms, had been since the start, had they accidentally encouraged it just by being around him?
She didn’t know.
What she did know, though, was that they’d messed up by letting him come along. He’d had a taste of the adrenaline, and there was no going back.
She flinched. “I… are you sure?”
Dick nodded against her stomach. “I want to help people.”
She bit her lip. Dick was one of those kids that would sneak out and do it anyways, the least they could do was make sure he was safe.
Adrien seemed to come to the same conclusion, because he sighed again and squeezed them both tighter.
“As long as you make sure to always be with one of us while you’re doing vigilante work…” he said reluctantly.
“I can do that.”
Oh, thank kwami.
She smiled and ruffled his hair. “I guess it would be kind of cool to have a whole family of vigilantes...”

As it turns out, I am unable to write pure fluff. It eludes me.
On the other hand, I managed a Christmas update!! Go me!!
