#and for wendy and her brothers to all be healthy kids who make friends with them

I know people see the interpretation of never neverland as kids dying before they grow up like "oh peter kills the lost boys before they grow up ooo how edgy" but there's also an interpretation to be made (although it's not the original authorial intent) that peter pan is a story of kids with terminal illnesses who know they most likely aren't going to get to grow up, so they try to make peace with that and live just for the current day, and want the kids around them to do so as well.
#not going to go full 'what if never neverland is actually ____'#but i think it makes sense in this reading for peter and the lost boys to be terminally ill#and for wendy and her brothers to all be healthy kids who make friends with them#and wendy and her brothers have to leave eventually bc they just don't live in the same world.#they're going to live to become adults someday and peter and the boys probably aren't.#but for the course of the story peter and the boys show wendy and her brothers what it's like to just be kids 100%#without the question of 'what are you going to be when you grow up' hanging in the air#(disclaimer i've never had a terminal illness and i mean this interpretation in a respectful way.)#(i hope it comes across that way. i just think this could be a possible reading of the story)#got the idea from the peter pan live-action film quote 'to die would be an awfully big adventure' and thought. wait.

I want to uses gravity falls to talk about how/why I ship ships becuase I don't see people over analyzing there own behavior enough.
For context the 2 ships I'm foaming at the mouth for rn is Billford and Fiddlestan two seemingly opisit ships.
The thing they have incommon is there both well intresting ok I'll be more spefic than that. Both relationships are ones where both participates gain something form the relationship besides just some one to kiss. I think a lot of time romance is used as a bandade on story's when there isn't enough stakes for example in gravity falls the writes kept truning back to dipper haveing a crush on Wendy becuse it's a easy conflict. Boy wants girl Bing bang book plot and that's ok some times but there's not any real drama or tention espicaly in that case when everyone knew it wasn't going to go anywhere. Even in cases where tenicaly it could go some where like Wendy and robbie it still feels hallow becuse it feels like the only reason there dating is to have someone to kiss and hold hands with witch is basically true. Dipper thinking Wendy is hot tells us nothing meaningful about him it dosnt tell us how he vibes the world or him self it dosnt even really tell us how he viwes Wendy besides her being "cool".
Now Billford tells us a lot about both charters involved. There are both in the relationship to fill a need, a void created by childhood trauma. Bill needs to be told he's the best, most special, and strongest boy in the galaxy because if he's not that he's just some monster who destroyed his whole dimension for no reason. Ford needs someone to tell him he's the most special, smartest, cleverest boy becuse if he's not he's just some freak form the lead district of new jersey who threw away his relationship with his brother for nothing. See that's intresting and even better is that they both get this thing they've craved there whole life and they both chose something else over there relationship Bill chooses world conquering and Ford choses well the world. That's conflict that's drama that's juicy.
Now fiddlestan speficaly au where they get together after Ford falls into the portal is also conflict filled. This is the most insecure money version of both Stanley and Fiddleford. Fiddleford has just lost his best friend and porbaly crush also money bag man to a god dam triangle, he's lost his wife and kid, probably his house, and basically all job opertunitys what is Ford going to be his refence, and worse he's loseing his mind to magic gun addiction. Stanley is at rock bottom he's makeing the mystery shack sure but he's feeling INCREDIBLY guilty for pushing his brother though the portal, he'd pretty poor still, he has a lot new reponciblitys, and he has no one.
Bonus points becuse you know fiddleford and stan are going to get into fights about the portal, and Ford, and the mystery shack, and the memory gun situations. So there's alot of conflict there but there's also alot of solutions the characters have. Stan wouldn't let fiddleford destory his mind. Fiddleford wouldn't let Stanley self isolate. They would be good for eachouther healthy even but not conflictless.
Conflict is the back bone of a good story. Shipping is just likeing a type of story.

Here it is.....Infinity....and the others
Infinity:Infinity is supposed to be me as a Collector or my Collector version. He was originally named Luke (my IRL name but felt like it didn't fit). He's honestly a nice and friendly person (but won't hesitate to humble you and likes making comments that gets people blushing). He loves fast food like McDonald's (Or other fast food places with good burgers,Popeyes,and more). He's the youngest of five siblings (who'll get their own bio too). But unlike other Collector families his family is just about your average family (ignoring the fact that their God's and her parents are probably taller than Godzilla). And has a healthy relationship with his family. He was sent to the Isles since her mom's friend wanted him to find The Collector and was acquainted with The Archivists. And once he found them and the others he decided to go against their wishes (His mom would definitely be okay with it). But Luz and her allies thought he was with The Archivists (which wasn't really true) so he was sent to another world (which was pretty amphibious.....). And traveled across the Multiverse after helping set up an amphibian reunion. He returned 20 years later with his pals (who also get their own bios). Also after his Multiverssal tour he found a new ground of friends.......(who may or may not be connected with Lily)...and deeply cares about them all. He's a jokester but is a sweet guy. However he only does masculine pronouns (his friends love referring to him with neutral to screw with him). Also he's going through puberty in which when he's mad his eyes turn like pitch black with purple pupils and the top of his face turns pitch black (like above his nose but his purple pupils are still visible and his eyes). Don't worry his dad had the same thing. And once he's happy he magically returns to normal.
Sexuality:Heterosexual
Soft Infinity:Soft Infinity is his Soft counterpart whose like The Collector. Abandoned by his family he was alone for TRILLIONS OF YEARS. Until one peculiar night he ran into.....Infinity?....And needless to say that group expanded more and more (ironically enough they haven't met the OG Infinity.......yet) he's alot sweeter than OG Infinity and doesn't really make jokes since he's afraid he'll drive his friends away or their stop loving him. He also shows signs of puberty but it's alot worse. He freaks out when this happens (unlike OG Infinity this happens randomly) and he ha spaniel attacks which causes him to accidentally destroy stuff and cry hysterically. But cuddling claims him down (and he falls asleep). Unlike OG Infinity this guy is Bisexual and polyamourus (a running theme with the characters so far introduced).
Sexuality:Bisexual
Minus Infinity:Similar to Minus Purplestar he's probably exactly like OG Infinity but dark blue like OG Infinitys hoody (and his a bit of extra hair in the back). But when he grows up he'll definitely join the Collector Minus Gang
Sexuality:Heterosexual
Neo Infinity:Neo Infinity is the big brother to Soft Infinity. He's a smoker,loves going out to clubs and looks a bit of a greater with his vest and pinkish bluish hair). But he's a cool guy and easy to get along with. Despite wearing sunglasses he'll genuinely treat his partners with respect (he's Pansexual and polyamourus lol). Also will put his cigarette out if it's grossing anyone out (unless they allow him to). He was the first person who met Soft Infinity and immediately took the kid in. His family are also parties and love telling stories about stuff that goes down at the club. Also would despise Johnny Bravo.
Sexuality: Pansexual
B3 Infinity:The B3 counterpart is honestly pretty different. He usually likes eating Burger King or Wendy's more,drinks Dr Pepper or cherry cola,and doesn't wear pajamas ad much as OG Infinity. Also he rarely speaks and communicates telepathically. However despite his quite nature he's a really nice person. He also follows orders (unless if their morally wrong). Also the other Infinitys don't mind his unique taste but will eat McDonald's occasionally. However there's something different. Unlike the others he's aro ace...and also can't get flustered. He doesn't have any trauma or witnessed anything to make him mute he just doesn't talk. But occasionally he can speak full sentences. Same with his parents (who he has a good relationship with) and the three often speak telepathically to eachother. But doesn't smoke.....(he doesn't mind the oder though)
Sexuality:Aro ace (or aro mantic whichever one is correct)
British Infinity:This was the first one and like British Purplestar is Infinity but a British stereotype. He's definitely the "father of the group and smokes cigars. He's not polyamourus and is straight but is an ally to LGBTQ. He loves slapping people with his glows whenever they annoy him or the other Infinitys. Also likes using Neo Infinitys cigarettes to light his own (which makes Neo Infinity a flustered mess). But despite their opposing personalities they both care about eachother. Also won't give Minus Redstar any issues with her outfit (he finds it cute). Also likes drinking tea but occasionally drinks soda. But will consume fast food too.
Sexuality:Heterosexual
Vampire Infinity: YES THAT'S RIGHT VAMPIRE COLLECTORS ARE REAL. Vampire Infinity is a pretty strong guy. He usually goes to other worlds to feast on blood (otherwise he turns into a feral monster). Also since his mom was a Collector he doesn't have any of the natural Vampire weaknesses (so he can eat garlic,holy water and crosses don't hurt him and can survive a while in sunlight but eventually goes through agonizing pain if exposed too much). The sun is the reason why it's hard to encounter his subspecies. He naturally puts his victims to sleep so they don't feel the bite (either by pendulum,hypnotic eyes or by fog). Also his bites likely can't transform unless he wants to. But can turn people into husks....which makes them dead....but still alive essentially trapping their souls in their corpses for eternal suffering and under his control unless he releases them. BUT......he only does that to people who are pure evil (ropists,abisers,bedos...I think you know what I meant by those three....)..also usually only has one fang but can grow another at will. But despite his scary appearance he's actually a really sweet person. He's also is pretty autistic and usually flies in circles inside...also smokes cigarettes but it helps calm him down whenever he's a bit flustered or overwhelmed. Alternatively he also uses syringes to inject blood through that method. He's the youngest of three hybrids (there's more of his kind) and has a healthy relationship with the three. However unlike everyone else his sexuality is unknown. Also Lil fun fact is that he could actually hypnotize Hypno...but can't hypnotize the other Collector's. Also carries a dagger but doesn't use it unless the situation is dire. Also is REALLY PROTECTIVE of his older sister and if he sees anyone bullying her or trying to take her....your in for a world of hurt.
Sexuality:???
Bsby Infinity/Infinity Jr:He's not an alternate version but instead a clone of the original. Was made in order to inspect the Isles since Infinity was genuinely mad the others accused Zions love of Benjamin wasn't real (since he didn't adopt him but it makes sense) but the clone came out as a baby. Suprisingly Infinitys parents were really chill about it and were EXCITED that their baby Infinity was back. However this baby has some odd side effects. He oddly has a full set of hair (exactly like Infinitys) and does the eye thing when he's upset. Also is really quite and doesn't cry or go into the bathroom in his diaper constantly. So essentially is a baby but without the negative traits. Also likes watching what Infinity wyahcesnon YouTube or on TV with the others (he originally liked kids shows but saw OG Infinity watching YouTube and grew attach). Also Infinity LOVES INFINITY JR. He feeds him normally (but usually gives him soda occasionally). But Luz and her others think Infinity is a bad parent. (And OH BOY INFINITY JUST ABSOLUTELY ROASTS THEM TO THE MOON......like seriously he freaking cooks them and he's 100% right. He's arguably a better parent then them all. When he grows up he'll probably be exactly like his clone father
Sexuality:Most likely Heterosexual
Fun facts
All of the Infinitys don't mind cigarettes or cigars
All of the Infinitys do the eye thing as well
This I realized earlier but technically speaking B3 and Soft Infinity could also be D sides too (but they still match the B3 and Soft qualifications) but in a technical sense their both D sides too
All of the Infinitys are the least sensitive (besides Soft Infinity)
Also Baby Infinity DESPISES YouTube cringe and Teen Titans Go (and that one unfunny toilet thing we do not mention) he has pretty impressive moral agency for a baby
Vampire Infinity could probably resist Minus Redstars hypnotic heartbeat/soft hug (unless he's exhausted)
B3 Infinity regularly takes naps
Soft Infinity is probably really close to Limestar (since he finds him ADORABLE) and doesn't think he's a freak for being mutated
Infinity has a favorite cousin
B3,Neo,British,Vampire and Minus Infinitys parents gave met Soft Infinity and love them. Their families accept hima stheir own and they'd jump Soft Moon and Soft Eternal
Soft Infinity is definitely the child of the group (alongside his girlfriend who you'll see tommorow and I guess Vampire Infinity too) his girlfriend is aware of his crush on Limestar but doesn't mind (all of them DO NOT mind who you cuddle with their all in one giant polyamourus relationship...but the Infinitys are technically kids (I feel like the reason Collector's do puberty at trillion years is because it would probably do the least damage) but to be honest the Stars are still really really young
Neo Infinity went through several different hair colors (I had. Award time but I think his current hair will stick)
B3 Infinity isn't mute....he is capable and will speak occasionally
Minus and B3 Infinity are sometimes mixed up (but their really easy to tell apart)
Neo Infinity has a pretty strong slap
Hurting or making Soft Infinity cry is basically a death sentence
Limestar and Soft Infinity are both roughly the most sensitive of the group (and also go through their puberty the hardest) but the others are probably miserable too (except the other Infinitys they just have the eye thing)
Infinity Jr shouldn't be capable of doing the eye thing until he's 15 trillion but due to being a clone it messed it up but he'd probably grow out of it when he actually reached 15 trillion (or will still do it)
Infinity usually hangs out in Heaven (definitely not Lily)because in my head canon Collectors can bypass the barrier only souls can get through)
Ill probably do the origins of the Infinity group some other time (maybe in the afternoon)
Infinity (alongside his counterparts) will definitely get along well with Zion and his older sibling's (especially B3 Infinity and Nocturnal due to both often being mute)
Infinity canonically despises South Park and Teen Titans go (no joke I never watch South Park)
If Infinity we're to play FNF mods he'd definitely despise the one that came out last week (since sit involves two of his good pals dying over and over again....and I actively avoid it) the only thing he likes about it (and by extension me too)is the fact that the creator says we can interpret the ending....he interprets it the way we both do
Vampire Collector's can still grow to gigantic sizes
Vampire Infinity (and by extension his sibling's) aren't aware of other Vampire Collector's and thought his faction of 200 were the only ones in existence (his sister told him that his dad has etyed up communication with others but didn't believe it)
Also Vampire Infinity can't drink the blood of Collector's since it's really hard to make them bleed (if Collector's around Infinitys age do their blood can make mortals alot stronger like tougher/more durable,alot stronger and faster and if consumed enough the effects are permanent.....but Collector's will still wipe the floor with them)
Older Collector's could probably create other universes filled with life if they bleed (but they would have to be OLD OLD like an illion that doesn't exist for Humans)
Infinity is good pals with the OG Blue,green,red and Purplestar (alongside the og versions of the two tommorow and their counterparts and has their numbers) also he'd likely move in with all the stars,Infinitys and the tommorow characters
Infinity may or may not unintentionally drive Zionverse Boyfriend and Pump to self harm after revealing the corruption of the Heaven universe (but feels genuine guilt once he learns) he also destroys a lab that could've lead to the corruption forming in that universe too
OG Infinity is likely unsure if he's polyamourus or not (his parents would be supportive no matter what)
Soft Infinity would definitely cry with the girls if they see a sad movie
Baby Infinity can cry or fuss but rarely does he often does the eye thing when he's hungry (he's suprisingly a clean eater)
Soft Infinity would definitely tell Limestar he's adorable (the two arguably have one of the strongest bonds of the whole group....but Minus Redstar loves holding him like a toddler so Limestar and Minus Redstar would be his parental figures but they'd definitely date once Soft Infinity is of age (I'm not trying to be a creep I SWEAR but he finds Pinkstar cute and the other girl stars)
Soft Infinity would be good pals with the Soft stars
Soft Infinity and his girlfriend may or may not find their vampire counterparts cute (they do which you could find weird.....but look at the other bios then is it weird?)
Vampire Infinitys dad is a Vampire his mom is a Collector (his subspecies is also among one of thr stronger types)
Aight that's enough for tonight see you tomorrow

Gravity Falls - “Waiting”
Pop-Pop AU
Stan sits in a hospital waiting room, thinking about his life and the people he loves.
- - - -
This is kinda old, but I realized I never posted it on tumblr. Hope ya like it!
Lots of fluff, the only ships are Soos and Melody.
AO3 LINK
- - - -
It had a square aspect ratio. Ink pen and watercolor on white heat pressed cotton paper in a bland white frame. One single blue flower in a red vase with what looks like a yellowish shadow. One shadow going left, the other going right. The lack of confidence and inexperience was obvious, the lines were unfocused and jagged, the color plainly filled the shapes and gave no other visual interest to the image.
Below the frame was a small white card that read “Painting donated by Jessica Blaise from Gravity Falls Elementary School”
Stan scanned the painting at least 20 times while sitting in that chair. The too rough and too soft at the same time chair that had similar copies populating the almost white room he sat in. The wallpaper bouncing off light pinks and blues with tiny ducklings as a makeshift wainscoting was starting to irritate the old man. It was too bright, and the consistent buzz of the fluorescent lights seemed so loud. Stan adjusted himself in his chair, switching his crossed legs to a wider spread and leaned his head against the wall.
The only other stimulus in the room were a few posters promoting proper hand washing techniques, the play area with a small table and chairs with large blocks, crayons and that weird “game” with the metal wiring and wooden beads that’s in every waiting room Stan’s ever sat in. He played with the toys to give himself something to do after he read all the magazines. The novelty wore off fast.
The television mounted on the wall was airing some cooking channel with no sound and no subtitles. Looking at food when you haven’t eaten in a few hours was practically torture, so Stan had been averting his eyes.
There were other paintings on the wall, one was less of a painting, but instead a print of a painting. He doubted that the artist got any compensation from it, if they were still alive. The other was a charcoal drawing done by a student from the community college a town away. Another square, but the entire image was black, the brightest thing on the page was an intruding infant hand coming from the left with the arm fading into the dark background. The fingers seemingly mid-twitch and grabbing at something. The lighting was dynamic and interesting. Stan swore it was a drawing of a penis the first time he glanced at it, which resulted in his brother’s laughter. Stanley smiled at the memory, it was only a few hours ago, but he relishes any time he can make Stanford laugh.
Stan’s eyes darted at the door in the far corner when it opened suddenly. He eased back into his chair when the nurse crossed the room to talk with the receptionist. He couldn’t hear the conversation very well, but could tell they were just gossiping and making jokes. Nothing that was of his interest. So he looked back to the elementary school child’s painting and analyzed it again. His eyes were dry and he was tired. He wished he could sleep, the chair wasn’t comfortable enough and when he did managed to sleep, his neck was sore when he woke up. He was only lucky Ford let him use his shoulder as a pillow for a while. He looked to his left and noted the book his brother placed in the seat. It seemed thick and in what looked like Hebrew. Stan wasn’t very surprised Ford was fluent in the language they were acquainted with as children. Their grandparents on their father’s side were the last to be fully fluent in Hebrew. It was like his brother to be curious of their heritage, but Stan only remembered a few phrases and words he learned from holidays and special event when he had to recite anything in Temple.
Stan crossed his arms and glanced at the clock on the wall and let out an exasperated sigh. It had only been 10 minutes since he last checked the time. He wanted to be at home, be in his soft warm bed and getting ready to eat pancakes at this time in the morning.
He and Ford were on the porch of The Mystery Shack when Soos rushed them off to the hospital the yesterday afternoon. What he originally thought would be a couple of hours of waiting turned into almost twelve. Apparently labour can last a long time.
Stan wished he could be a witness for Soos and Melody like he was when Dipper and Mabel were born, but Melody wanted her privacy, which Stan could respect, but Soos wanted him there…..so he and Ford waited in this bright, annoyingly pastel waiting room, twiddling his thumbs awaiting the arrival of the new member of the mystery family. He was glad he was in at least comfortable clothes, some gray sweatpants and a sweater Mabel knitted for him that read “godfather”.
He was never clear on what the title entailed, but it was mentioned a few times by Soos’ grandmother and the kids insisted that Soos was intending to ask him. He hadn’t, but he didn’t protest Stan wearing the sweater. Whatever job godfathers had, he was willing to play the part if Soos were to ask him.
Stan looked at the double doors a few feet away that lead out of the waiting room and into the halls. His brother left to find something for them to eat, but was taking his sweet time. The turkey being basted on the television was no help in aiding his growling stomach.
He distracted himself by returning his thoughts to Soos and Melody. Just down the hall they were experiencing the strange and beautiful phenomenon that was witnessing the arrival of a brand new person. Stan remembered the feeling so clearly. His entire life he’s felt the presence of human beings. It’s inherent in most people to feel when someone is in the room with you, the other soul sharing the same space as you. Imagine being in a room with a set amount of people and someone else comes in, but imagine they came in without using a doorway. Just appearing seemingly out of thin air. Suddenly another person is with you, and they’re brand new to the world, a life full of potential and power. Yes, today is indeed a happy day, but no amount of positive thinking would ease Stan’s nerves. His foot began to bounce and his hands unconsciously began to fiddle with each other. He didn’t want to think anything would go wrong with Soos’ baby, but anything can happen and life is so fragile, especially at the start of it.
He recalled his nephew’s nervousness the day Dipper and Mabel were born. His hands were shaking and he was constantly checking on his wife and asking the doctors loads of questions. He didn’t fully understand the twins’ father’s behavior until the end of that day.
Mabel’s birth was swift and easy. Her mother only needed to push one and a half times before she was here. It was as if she was eager to meet everyone waiting for her. She cried like most babies do, but Stan could’ve sworn they were tears of joy. While Mabel was greeted with, “hello, beautiful, “hi, sweetie” and “she’s perfect”, Her brother’s introduction to world started with, “what’s wrong?”, “wait, let me hold him”, and “he’s not moving”. Dipper was rushed out of the room before his mother got a chance to look at him. Stan managed to catch a glimpse of the horrifyingly blue tint on his great nephew’s tiny face. The memory still gave him chills. He remembered how much he wanted to hold Mabel, who began to fuss and cry, obviously missing her brother. He was terrified at the prospect of another incomplete set of twins in their family. After the longest 30 minute of his life, Stan’s great-nephew returned with a bright pink face, wailing with all the power his little lungs could produce. Once the twins were reunited in their mother’s arms, they settled down almost instantly. The doctors told their parents Dipper was significantly lighter in weight than his sister, but both were very strong and healthy. Every so often Stan thinks about Dipper and how much he has impacted his life. His thoughts lead to darker places and he questions if Ford would be here if Dipper wasn’t there to find the third journal. He shook his head as a cold shiver went up his spine.
Stan did his best to distract himself from revisiting the scare that Dipper caused him 16 years ago.
16 years…..17 in August
Stan blinked. The squishy, bright faces that stayed with him that first summer had changed significantly. They stayed in contact all year round and visited every summer since they were 12. But every in-person meeting was always a shock. Dipper was developing the square jaw Stan, both his brothers and nephew shared. He started to regularly wear glasses their second summer with the Stans. Poor kid will grow up looking like Filbrick like the rest of the Pines men. He reminded Stan of Ford at that age.
And Mabel…..
Stan will never get over how much she looks like his mother. It didn’t strike him until Soos and Melody’s wedding and she put her hair in a bun. She’s calmed her hyperactivity down a bit, but not by a lot, she still brightens his day with her wit and creativity. They’ve both matured physically, but not much has changed personality wise and they still acted like big children when they’re around each other. Stan loved them very much, and wished he could see them more often. He wondered what the future held for all of them. Would they still visit town after going to college? Would they move here? Or somewhere else?
He’s had several conversations with them to see how they’re managing the prospect of separating. They’re much better at communicating than he and Ford were and they seem actually excited to have some independence. It made Stan nervous, but he was sure their close relationship wouldn’t suffer.
Wendy chose to be elsewhere for the next few years. She and her friends booked a plane ticket and plan to backpack and hitchhike around Europe and the UK. Stan hopes they stay safe and watch out for each other. Lotta weirdos in Amsterdam. She was set to leave in the coming days, Wendy wanted to wait until today arrived so she could meet Soos and Melody’s kid before going away for who knows how long.
A tap on the shoulder woke Stan from his deep thoughts. His brother arrived with some warm sub sandwiches and coffee.
“Any word yet?, he asked Stan
“Nothin’ yet”, Stan felt helpless not having any clue how Soos and Melody were doing.
Stanford took his seat next to Stanley and they both silently enjoyed their late breakfast. Since arriving they’ve witnessed families reuniting and going past the door in the far corner to meet their children, grandchildren or siblings. Stan looked at the clock again. How has it only been another 5 minutes? He sighed, leaned back and finished the rest of his sub. One hand holding the sandwich, the other went back to gripping the arm rest, then a six fingered hand went down to rest on top of it. Stan let go of the armrest and tangled his fingers between Ford’s and held onto it with a, hopefully not too tight, grip. It was like an anchor to reality, much better at easing his anxieties than any words could. Over the past 4 years, Stan and Ford’s bond grew stronger. Stan still feared one day he would wake up and find himself still in that basement surrounded by broken machinery and languages he didn’t understand. He hasn’t yet, and was enjoying the time he had left with his twin. Stan took a moment to look at his brother again, Ford made eye contact and smiled then continued to read his book. Hands still intertwined
Stans thoughts went back to Soos…
It amazed Stan how much he had grown and it still baffled him that Soos idolized him as much as he does. Before Soos, Stan had no one. His brother was….gone, the rest of the family didn’t talk to him much outside of the holidays and special occasion. There hadn’t been any sense of consistency in Stan’s life for years, decades even, until he hired the chubby little kid he barely glanced at one random Saturday. Soos always arrived to work early, sometimes with breakfast for both of them. Stan didn’t know how much he needed a reliable companion until he had it and he enjoyed the 10 years he had with that kid… or man he should say. Here he was…a few rooms away, becoming a father.
Stan used to daydream a lot about the prospect of having kids when he was younger. He’s was always good with them when he had the chance to babysit his nephew, then later Dipper and Mabel when they were toddlers. He loved having kids in his house that first summer. He loved the energy and the sense of adventure the twins brought. They gave him a sense of purpose and belonging he hadn’t felt in years. He wished he was brave enough to have his own children. Not that he was ever with anyone long enough to want to have kids with him. He supposed it was for the best that he didn’t subject a child to homelessness or an unhappy marriage. He was also terrified at the idea. His dad used to say having kids ruined his life. He wondered who his father was before his older brother was born. Did they really ruin his life? Stan often wondered if he would be like his own dad if he has children of his own. Would he change and become that annoyed parent that resenting his children?
He thought about Soos again
That was probably the closest to parenthood he ever experienced. The first time he felt like one was when Soos asked him for homework help after closing. He initially told Soos no, he wasn’t exactly smart and didn’t think he would be any help. It apparently upset the kid, so Stan sighed and gave it a try. It was fairly simple middle school math, he didn’t remember everything, but helped Soos do more than half of it. Soos thanked him and went home happy. Stan felt weirdly proud, he was glad he made a small difference and managed to teach Soos something he didn’t even know he knew.
The second time was when Soos was a teenager. His grandmother wasn’t able to teach Soos to drive, since she had forgotten how and her late husband used to do the driving, she mostly walked everywhere. Soos offered to work for free so Stan could teach him. Stan loved driving and found teaching Soos cathartic. He was a fast and eager learner, he only bumped Stan’s car once while trying to figure out parallel parking. Little did Soos know that he was getting paid for his normal work hours. Stan just put it away long enough to help buy the kid some old used truck in the junkyard for getting his license. They fixed the truck up and in only a few weeks it was ready to be on the road. Soos has taken good care of it and it’s still his ride to this day
Stan was very proud of Soos. He taught the kid some basic self defense and managed to be a decent influence in his life. Soos at least has his priorities straight.
Stan was even glad to see that Soos was willing to question him. When the portal was reaching the final countdown, he didn’t hesitate to protect the kids from him when he thought Stan was dangerous. He didn’t know, none of them did, so he didn’t blame Soos for distrusting him. He hoped he never had to betray him again. They both had crappy dads, and Stan knew how Soos saw him. Stan was never really sure if he reciprocated those feelings. It felt natural to act the part, but to put a label as important as “dad” on Stan was daunting. Soos definitely deserves better than what he was given, Stan wasn’t sure if he was it.
Stan looked up at the familiar voices running towards him from the double doors.
“Grunkle Stan! Grunkle Ford!” Mabel waved to them
The two teenagers and Wendy walked in holding a balloon and various toys. They took some seats across from the Stans and asked how everyone was doing and if the baby arrived yet.
“Not yet, hopefully soon” Ford answered
Stan relaxed and silently enjoyed his family’s company. He laid his head back and leaned slightly on Ford to rest for a minute. His eyes shut as he listened to the kids joke around and talk amongst themselves. He squeezed Ford’s hand one more time before drifting off.
He knew he should’ve tried sleeping earlier, he wasn’t out for more than 15 minutes when Soos came into the waiting room. Stan’s eyes shot open and he was on his feet faster than he did when he was being chased by angry costumers as a door to door salesman. Soos’ red eyes sagged and he seemed exhausted, but carried a proud, wide smile across his face. He sniffed and wiped his eyes.
“It’s a boy”, he squeaked, “mom and baby are okay”
Dipper and Mabel were first to start the hugs, and the room filled with cheers of congratulations and love. Stan felt light as a feather giving Soos a hug and joking about child labor.
“Can we see him?”, Mabel bounced with anticipation
“Yeah, dudes!”, Soos gestured everyone past the corner door and into the suite. “But only for a little while, Melody has to sleep”
The room was small, dimly lit and warm. The Pines crew collectively lowered their voices as Melody came into view on the bedding holding a bundle of blankets decorated with small yellow ducklings. She was leaned back on a large pillow, covered in blankets and toted a soft smile on her face. Soos stroked her hair and picked up his little son to show to the Pines’. The younger twins got a look at him first,
Mabel squealed and cooed at the tiny infant. Then Wendy, who said hi to the baby and told Soos she’d make sure to send him gifts while she was away
“What’s his name?”, Mabel asked Melody
“I named him after my dad”, Melody replied, “Jacob”. She smiled sadly at the memory of the father she lost the year before.
Soos approached the Stans, Ford smiled and complimented the couple on a having such beautiful little boy, but shot Soos a look, who silently replied with another one. Something was up.
Finally Stan got a look at baby Jacob. “Wow” Stan smiled, patting Soos’ arm. “He looks exactly like you”
Soos laughed, “really? I think he looks like Melody”, there was a short silence before Soos spoke up again.
“Do you want to hold him, Mr Pines?”
Stan looked at Soos and smiled, “heh, sure”. He held his arms out. Soos lowered his arms to pass the baby to Stan, who scrunched his face up and started to fuss. Stan took the infant and managed to hold him with one arm. He bounced and shushed little Jacob until he calmed down. “Heya kid”, He’s held babies dozens of times, but something felt different about this one. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but Stan felt an almost magnetic pull towards him. Jacob settled comfortably against Stan and continued his rest. Stan softly beamed at the tiny person in his arms.
“Hey, Stan?”
Stan lifted an eyebrow and looked at Soos, who was fidgeting with his hands and nervously smiling.
“Uh..”, he paused, taking in the sight of Stan holding his child. “You know about my dad”, Soos looked at Ford again, who shrugged and nodded. Stan studied Ford’s face, who’s eyes strayed away as he hid a small smile. Soos got his attention again.
“You uh…he wasn’t…”, Soos choked up, his voice strained a bit, “I met you when I was probably the loneliest I ever was in my entire life”. Stan pictured the little boy he hired on the spot, he didn’t remember him until Soos showed up at his door step the next day ready to work. He didn’t know how much that quick, thoughtless decision would change his life.
Soos perked up and walked across the room to a table and picked up the piece of paper sitting on it. Soos glanced at it, then at Stan and smiled, gaining some emotional strength it seemed.
“You mean a lot me”, Soos, “you were there when I really needed it, you gave me a job, taught me just about everything I know. I don’t think I ever thanked you for that”
Stan got a bit nervous, Was this him asking to be the godfather?Everyone was silent and curiously watching. Soos held his hand out and handed the paper to Stan. He adjusted his arm to properly hold Jacob in his arm and took it. Stan flipped the page and noticed it was the baby’s birth certificate. Stan eyes bounced off the page and read the various information: birthdate, weight, parents, but he froze when he read the full name. Stan’s wide eyes questioningly studied Soos’ face.
“Are you…”, Stan felt his own throat tightening, crap. Come on, not in front of everyone “really?”, he asked. Soos gave a genuine nod and sniffed.
“I uh” Soos cleared his throat, “I was wondering, since Jacob doesn’t have one…if you wanted to be…. his grandpa?
There it was
Stan felt dizzy and took a small step back before remembering who was in his hands and regained his balance. Ford came to his side and wrapped an arm around his shoulder. Stan decide not to look at his brother and chose to stare forward, then his eyes went back to Soos, who look deflated. Oh man. Stan was terrified, he didn’t want to say no and hurt Soos, but if he said yes….he wasn’t sure what made him so nervous. The entire concept sounded so alien to him, like he didn’t deserve the title. He always considered Soos, Melody and their son a part of his family. But to bare a title like “grandpa”, had to mean he had children that that children. That he was already a parent without his knowledge. It all felt so natural to want to lean into this and become part of this family like Soos wanted.
He heard something make a noise from beneath himself. Stan looked down at little Jacob, who was mid yawn. The baby’s mouth grew wide opens and inhaled, scrunching up his face and suddenly shut. Suddenly two tiny eyes opened for just a few seconds, enough time for Stan to make eye contact before Jacob shut them and got comfortable again
Everything was different now.
Stan didn’t notice how quiet the room had gotten nor the tears forming in his eyes. Stunned by beauty and overcome with pride and a sense of purpose. The pride he felt teaching Soos math, how to drive and attending his graduation all combined just looking at the perfect being in his arms. If he said yes, he would want everything that came with it. Stan lifted the birth certificate up to read the name again.
Jacob Stanley Ramirez
“Y-Yes”, he heard a shaken voice say, almost not realizing it was his own “of course”. He looked at Soos, tears in his eyes and a bright smile on his face. He still wasn’t sure if he deserved this, but Stan wanted it. He wanted it all. Why not indulge just this once? He gave the certificate to Ford and used his now free hand to pull Soos into a hug. Gently sandwiching his…..grandson in between him……and his son.

Avatar live action with katara and Zuko being the oldest: aangs crush just being more harmless and less serious and actually turns into a real friendship and the motherly situations aren't weird. Aang accidentally calling Katana mom and being embarrassed because this person is there friend and teacher, less about crushes.
Zutara live action where they're the same age: they're both charge of people who don't really listen to them or respect them at first.
If the ATLA liveaction ever ends up being made and if the latest news are true, I hope they pull off a Gravity Falls with Kata/ang! In Gravity Falls, one of the protagonists, Dipper, has a crush on Wendy, his friend. He’s twelve and she’s sixteen. Spoiler alert: Wendy ends up breaking up with her boyfriend and Dipper thinks she’ll be available now because she’s single. When Wendy realizes he has a crush on her (and it makes her visibly uncomfortable), she sits down with Dipper and tells him that she’s too old for him. She tells him that... but she also tells him that his friendship is so important to her, she can’t lose him! And they are friends throughout the whole show. Nothing really changes about their dynamic, except Dipper’s crush is never mentioned again. And that’s so healthy! That’s such a good thing to show in a kids’ show!! We need more of that.
(Also I ship Dipper with Pacifica Northwest, the arrogant rich girl who is revealed to be emotionally abused by her parents and finds friendship with Dipper. Guess this is the Taang of Gravity Falls!)
I know others have talked about this, but making Katara the older sister doesn’t change anything about her dynamic with Sokka. She’s always acted as the eldest, especially in Book One, and he’s always acted as the younger brother, especially in Book One. Sure, in Book Three, Sokka takes on a more leadership role, but that’s always been Katara’s job. From saving Haru to the Desert to the Painted Lady. Katara’s narrative is about individuality and being recognized for her own merits, especially during her fight against Pakku. She saves and takes care of people while Sokka watches on the sidelines. As one of the eldest in the Gaang, she’d be even more recognized as a leader. Even if Sokka is the younger brother, he can still have this protectiveness intact. Which would emphasize his misogyny in Book One. He’s the younger brother and “man of the house”. He wants to protect his older sister and he feels insecure that she’s older and takes care of everyone else. Isn’t that supposed to be his job? Sokka becomes the engineer of the group while Katara becomes the leader. He thinks while she acts.
A sixteen-year-old Katara gives her even more parallels with Zuko (which is... A LOT, since they already have so many!) Even in Book One, before Zuko’s redemption arc, their respective stories were always about being recognized for their own merits. Katara against Pakku. Zuko against Zhao. Katara with the Gaang. Zuko with his ship’s crew. They’ve always been in charge of others. They both learn to be sympathetic to people on the other side, too. Katara with the villagers fron Jang Hui in The Painted Lady. Zuko with Song and Lee and everyone he meets in the Earth Kingdom. As leaders, they take charge, of course, but they also learn they have to respect others to be respected leaders. And as others have already said, sixteen-year-old Katara opens the door for Chief Katara after the War! Which is awesome :)
I just think it’s a shame people in the ATLA fandom at large don’t recognize Katara as a leader in her own right and give all her characteristics to Sokka. It’s very... meta, you know?

Chapter 6 [FFN | AO3] of Forewarning
All Dipper knew was that there was something buried in some special thermos behind the shack; all Danny knew was that he had no idea how he'd gotten here.
Based off this artwork by @hashtag-art. Happy birthday, @bibliophilea!
(beginning | previous)
-|-
Once safely back at the Mystery Shack, Wendy turned off the golf cart and grabbed her supplies from the rack in the back. It had been a bumpy ride, but she’d only needed to sacrifice one bag of marshmallows to the forest. That wasn’t bad, considering how many creatures she was fairly sure lived there.
And, fine, maybe it made her a little paranoid to think that some of the bumps she’d hit had been deliberate, a growth of tree roots just so or deep holes suspiciously covered with leaf litter, but it wasn’t like she voiced her thoughts to anyone else.
Besides, whatever lived in the forest seemed happy with the occasional sacrifice of candy. At the very least, she’d never been stopped by something yet, and she took a lot of shortcuts through here by herself. That wasn’t exactly recommended, even for those who knew the territory well. When her family went out for apocalypse training, they were supposed to pair off. They didn’t always, but they did more often than not.
It’s easier to survive if there’s someone you trust around to watch your back, but you have to know how to fight if there isn’t.
Whatever had stopped by the Mystery Shack wasn’t bringing the apocalypse with it—she was pretty sure about that—but she didn’t want this to turn into that. Taking the twins to see the haunted grocery store? Sure. She still hadn’t been sure they’d actually see ghosts despite the stories—no one had been until it had happened—but that was different. That was contained. That was very much not in the Mystery Shack. Where the kids slept. With only the oblivious skeptic Stan around to fight the things that went bump in the night.
Now, if those things were corporeal, she wouldn’t be concerned. The man knew how to punch, and he’d punch before asking questions. But whatever had turned up this time clearly had the option to not be corporeal. Like a ghost.
She remembered the footprints appearing in the scattered baking soda a split second before the boy who’d visited earlier appeared. The same boy who had flashed a careless grin and flipped through postcards and keychains and magnets in the gift shop before taking a tour with Mabel.
Whatever he was, he wasn’t a ghost, but he was entirely too much like a ghost for comfort.
There was no sign of Stan yet—not a surprise; she hadn’t heard his car—but chances were good he wasn’t far behind her.
She saw Soos walking in from the lane and raised her hand in a wave. He spotted her and held a finger to his lips before pointing, and something cold and heavy settled in her gut as she spotted three figures by the woodshed: Mabel, Dipper, and the not-a-ghost boy who’d called himself Danny.
She cursed under her breath as she hurried to meet Soos. “That’s him,” she hissed. “We need to get him away from the twins.”
“Did you find anything in town that we can use?”
“I bought a couple more boxes of salt.” Silver was expensive—too expensive for her, anyway—and she wasn’t exactly guaranteed to find holy water even if she tried breaking into a church, mostly because she didn’t know where she’d look for it. She could’ve bought a cast iron frying pan, but she might as well grab one from the kitchen. The ideas of what they might be able to do had quickly fallen apart when she’d realized what was actually feasible. “It’s better than nothing.”
“What about garlic?”
“For a ghost?”
“You said he wasn’t a ghost.”
“Close enough to a ghost. And, anyway, there should be some in the kitchen. We can always chop up a couple of cloves and see if it does anything.” If it didn’t, and they didn’t waste it, they could always throw it into hamburger meat or make garlic bread. “How long has he been here? The kid?”
“Just a couple of minutes,” Soos allowed, “but this isn’t the first time the kids have met him.”
Wendy closed her eyes. “I know, I just…. I’d hoped they wouldn’t realize he wasn’t normal.” More to the point, she’d hoped that he wouldn’t come back. What the hell did he want, anyway? Sure, he’d said something about fixing whatever was wrong, but their ideas about what needed fixing weren’t likely the same.
“They might not. He was pretending to be normal when he talked to me.”
“He talked to you?”
“Just to ask after Dipper and Mabel.”
Wendy frowned. Soos didn’t sound too optimistic that Mabel and Dipper wouldn’t realize there was something weird about the kid, and frankly, she thought he was right. Mabel might be more forgiving, but Dipper…. “We’ll play it cool. Keep doing whatever you were doing. Try to keep an eye on them without being too obvious about it. I’ll prepare the fire pit.”
“The wood, campfire forks, hot dogs, marshmallows—?”
His gaze had wandered pointedly down to the box of salt pressing against the white plastic bag she carried, its blue label clearly visible. “Yeah. I won’t ring it thickly enough that it’s noticeable, especially since it’ll have to be in the gravel where nothing’s growing anyway, but if he’s going to pretend to be normal, then we’ll see how long he can keep that up.”
“And if he’s not affected by the salt?”
“We cross that bridge when we come to it.”
“And if we’re wrong and he is normal after all?”
Wendy snorted. “If he’s normal, he’s only normal for here.” She saw Soos shift uncomfortably and added, “If Stan comes back before I’m finished, give him the pitch about taking measures to ghost-proof the Mystery Shack and advertising doing that because it’s haunted. He’ll know how to get more of what we need, even if he doesn’t think it’ll do anything.”
“What if he’s not bad? The kid, I mean. Not everything is bad. Not everyone is bad.”
The kid had claimed he wasn’t a threat. He’d said he was stuck, that he just wanted to go home, that he had to fix something, not break it. What if it hadn’t been a lie? She didn’t see how his sneaking around could mean his intentions were honourable, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t missing something.
On the other hand, if he were simply determined to show a friendly face to the twins to get them to lower their guard, only to strike once he’d fooled them—
Wendy wasn’t sure if she wanted to take that risk. Having a healthy amount of suspicion now and apologizing later sounded much better to her than being overly trusting and being burned—especially if she wouldn’t be the only one caught in that fire. She and Soos had lived their entire lives here. Mabel and Dipper had not. They might not yet appreciate the degree to which not everything was as it appeared.
“You don’t need to be ready to attack,” Wendy finally said. “You just need to be ready to defend.” Soos nodded, maybe thinking her words were for both of them, but they weren’t. She had no intentions of simply being ready to defend. She wasn’t about to attack unprovoked, but if this kid did anything that set off alarm bells for her, she’d act on her gut. She trusted her gut more than her head. It was reliable in these sorts of situations.
The trouble was, her gut should have made a call on this already. Instead, she was still conflicted, and more time to mull it over on her trip into town hadn’t helped. Part of her still wanted to take the kid’s words at face value, but the little she’d seen of what he could do backed up the part of her that insisted he was far too dangerous to blindly trust. Soos wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there was so much that could seem innocuous at first….
The knowledge that Soos was right and they had no idea if salt would actually help defend them didn’t make this any easier—especially when Danny was clearly interested in Mabel and Dipper. Soos had mentioned Dipper having a book, and she remembered seeing glimpses of it before. If that’s what the kid was interested in, how was she supposed to help Dipper and Mabel protect it while still protecting them?
Salt first. Purifying fire and questions later, if the kid decided to stick around for it. As long as he wasn’t hurting her friends, she was willing to give him a shovel and see how deep he dug.

Danny didn’t see the journal around, but Dipper apparently didn’t need it to draw his magic circle thing in the dirt. To be fair, Danny didn’t know if it was the same one as before, but he also didn’t want to find out. Which meant taking the initiative and trying to explain before they decided to pull more magic stuff on him.
“Please don’t do whatever you’re planning on doing,” he said, keeping his voice low in the hope that the guy he’d been talking to earlier wouldn’t hear it. “I just want to talk, I swear.”
“Are you ready to explain now?”
That was Dipper, with a bite in his voice that reminded Danny a bit of Valerie. Dipper might not sound even half as malicious as Valerie could when she was spitting curses at Phantom, but he was appropriately wary. “Yeah. But you have to promise you won’t try any magic stuff.”
“No. You’re not defenseless, and I’m not swearing away my ability to protect anyone.”
Oh. Right. He might think that particular promise carried more weight than a regular promise. He seemed to think giving his word would make it impossible to break. Danny didn’t know of any ghosts with that power, and frankly he didn’t want to meet one who had it. “You don’t have to. I just…. I promise I’m not here to hurt you or anyone else. I only want to talk. And not, y’know, risk being exorcised if you don’t believe me.”
Mabel looked from Danny to her brother and raised an eyebrow. He scowled at her but said, “Fine. If you don’t do anything except tell us the truth right now, I won’t try to exorcise you.”
Not ideal, but it wasn’t like Danny was planning on lying through his teeth to them, anyway—or that he couldn’t still attempt a lie if he felt he needed to. He had a feeling it wouldn’t work, though. He hadn’t had a whole lot of luck earlier. Maybe seeing through that thing was a kind of survival instinct around here, just like Secret Lab Guy had said.
Come to that, though— How had he had an entire conversation with someone, spilled half his life story to that someone, and not actually gotten their name?
Whatever. He’d ask later if he didn’t figure it out before then. It just proved the point, though. These people were good. Sharper than he was used to, unless almost everyone in Amity Park had already figured out his secret and was just being nice and waiting for him to make some kind of grand announcement.
Yeah, right. If Amity Park’s continued obliviousness wasn’t natural, then Vlad had done something. Not something Danny would thank him for, exactly, but something he wouldn’t fault him for, either.
“Thanks. Can I sit?” There weren’t chairs. There weren’t even logs. Dipper would be able to tell that he was staring at the circle drawn in the dirt, though, and know the question for what it was.
Mabel reached out one foot and drew a line through it with the toe of her shoe. “Yup!” she said, dropping down in place. “Pull up some grass.”
Dipper glared at her as Danny sat down on a patch that was more gravel than grass, but the other boy didn’t say anything; he just settled down and looked like he’d be ready to grab the axe beside him at a moment’s notice. Danny didn’t really want to find out if he knew how to use it. Then again, going by the assorted sizes of split logs nearby, he wasn’t overly skilled; even if it wasn’t a normal axe that Danny could avoid with intangibility, there was a good chance that Dipper was clumsy enough with it that he’d be easy enough to avoid.
“I’m sorry about not being entirely straight with you earlier when I said I would be.” Danny didn’t know where to begin, but an apology seemed smart when he still wanted their help.
“Which time, Phantom?”
Well, at least there wasn’t any lingering doubt. Danny sucked in a breath and let it out slowly to give himself a bit of time to think. Mabel looked ready to listen, but Dipper…. He still wasn’t sure about Dipper. “This isn’t exactly something I tend to tell strangers,” Danny said slowly, “but you’re right. I’m Phantom. I’m the one you let out of the thermos.”
Dipper was still practicing his glare, but Mabel asked, “So what are you? You’re not a ghost. We’ve seen ghosts.”
“I’m still a ghost,” Danny said, since as far as he knew, that was true. “Just…part ghost. Part human.” He rubbed the back of his neck and offered them a smile. “Remember when I joked about being the poster boy for interdimensional safety?”
“You expect us to believe you were in some sort of accident,” Dipper said flatly.
They didn’t need to know all the details, but— “Yeah. Lab accident. It didn’t kill me, or at least I don’t think it did, but I did get ghost powers, so that’s cool. Not something I’d recommend to anyone, but cool.”
Okay, Dipper definitely didn’t believe that, but Mabel nodded as if Danny had said something normal and not what probably sounded insane. “Why were you in the thermos?”
“Clockwork, I think. He’s the one who gave me the message to warn you in the first place, remember? Also the one who likes to pretend he doesn’t interfere but interferes like this. I thought it was Vlad, until I…until I realized how long it had been. And, no, before you ask, I don’t know who wrote that journal. I wasn’t lying about that. The only important bit I lied about was ‘Danny Fenton’ being a friend.”
“Why fess up now?” Dipper’s question was a challenge, sure, but Danny could hear the genuine curiosity behind it. Chance were, he wasn’t a great liar, either.
“Because I might need your help to get home. Especially if that help involves you trusting me enough to let me help you and you not trying to kill me first.”
“What were you looking for earlier?” Danny blinked, trying to figure out what that meant, and Dipper must have read that confusion on his face because he elaborated, “Mabel heard you. We know you were back before you showed yourself now.”
Right. She had been in the gift shop area, hadn’t she? “I was trying to find some clue about what else I’m supposed to do here.”
“And?”
That meant did you find it? Danny might’ve promised them the truth, but he’d also promised the other guy that he wouldn’t blow that secret, either. More or less. Hopefully that wasn’t what he was supposed to do here? “There’s something weird about this place,” he said instead. “It’s got this…feeling. I don’t know how to describe it.” It was something unnerving, like the feeling the Fright Knight could give you, but with more…. More I’m-watching-you vibes. Vlad times a hundred. If he didn’t need to stick around to get home, he’d be gone by now. Whatever Clockwork was trying to warn these guys away from, it felt like a danger on par with Pariah Dark.
Not that he’d be able to explain that to them.
Mabel reached over to poke Dipper in the arm. “Show him the journal.”
That would make things a lot easier for him. “I could tell you what it has wrong about ghosts. Or at least about me,” he offered. He wanted to do that regardless, but if he could give them more reason to show him, well….
“It seems to be right about you,” Dipper said, “unless you want to pretend that you’ve never been affected by anything we’ve done.”
Danny blew out a breath. “Look. Being part ghost doesn’t mean I’m exempt from everything that works on ghosts. It also means that I need to be careful around hunters, including you guys. But I’m not here to fight you or steal something or whatever your book says about me. I’m the good guy, I swear.”
“The good guy. Who needs his own little dedicated section in the journal.”
“Dedicated section?” That sounded worrisome. How much info did these guys have on him? Some of it had to be accurate, but if it was just full of things he’d done as a ghost with no context, like the stealing—
“More like a paragraph,” Mabel interrupted, “and it’s not even in the same language as the rest of it.”
Wait.
“Not the same language? What language is it?”
“See for yourself,” Mabel said. She elbowed Dipper when he didn’t immediately produce the journal and offer it up and then hissed a few things in his ear for good measure, which finally seemed to convince him. He pulled the journal out from beneath the vest he’d been wearing earlier, flipped through to the right page, and turned it around to show Danny.
Danny leaned closer, but he didn’t recognize the language, either. If it was something ghosts spoke, he’d never seen it written down, but aside from Wulf, most of the ghosts he’d met spoke English. He didn’t know how many other languages they spoke, though. He’d never asked. If this was some common language he had yet to learn….
“It might be the way it’s coded,” Dipper admitted, “instead of actually being in a different language. Some passages in the journal are coded, but they’re all the same code, except for this. I haven’t had any luck cracking it.”
Danny frowned, reading the page over before Dipper could take it away. He couldn’t see anything about a thermos or anything else that would have led them to him in the first place, but there was a bit of gibberish above that section written in green ink that might be the first code—
Wait. Green ink? Everything else in here was black or blue or some kind of brown that Danny really hoped wasn’t blood. “What else is written in this colour?” he asked, pointing to the passage.
“That’s it.”
“In the entire book?” That didn’t make sense. “But…why?”
“When I find the author of the journals,” Dipper said bluntly, “that won’t be one of the first questions I ask.”
“It won’t even be one of the first hundred,” Mabel added. “Dipper’s never understood the importance of colour.”
To be fair, it wasn’t typically high on Danny’s list of priorities, either, but this colour thing was definitely strange. How many other weird things were in that book if this didn’t make the list?
“Does it mean something to you?” Mabel asked.
Danny hesitated. The fact that it happened to be the same colour as his eyes—or his ectoplasm—in ghost mode could be a coincidence, but things tended to be a lot less coincidental when Clockwork was involved. Danny wasn’t really ready to bet that whoever had written this journal had simply run out of every other colour of pen that day. “Maybe,” he admitted, “but only in that it might point toward me.” Or another ghost like him. Hopefully not Danielle.
“So do you know who wrote it?” she prompted.
He shook his head. “I don’t know the handwriting. That’s not saying much, though. There are a lot of people—and ghosts—I know whose handwriting I’d never recognize.” He wasn’t even sure he’d recognize the Ghost Writer’s handwriting. “What does the other part say about me?”
“That something was stuck in a thermos behind the shack,” Mabel answered immediately, ignoring her brother’s glare. “Which it was.”
“It’s a Fenton Thermos, something specifically designed to contain ghosts. My parents build them.” If he wasn’t trying to keep his secret anymore, there was no harm in admitting that. “They’re paranormal scientists and inventors.”
“Like the author of the journal is,” Mabel said, shooting Dipper a pointed look. “That must be why the bit about the thermos is in there.”
“Not— I mean, I’m not thirty years old. Seriously. Do I look that old to you? I just turned fifteen last week.” Well. Last week for him. Not for whenever this was, five years in his future. “Me being in the thermos is Clockwork’s fault.” Probably. Except Clockwork wouldn’t have needed to catch him in a thermos to force him back here; he could’ve simply asked and called in a favour if Danny had complained, which he would’ve. More likely, Clockwork had merely taken advantage of someone else capturing him in a thermos, and that list of possibilities was long—and included more than one ally, even when the capturing was intentional.
“I don’t know all the details, okay? I just…. I haven’t met a ghost besides Clockwork that messes with time.” His evil future self didn’t count, not when Clockwork’s power had still been the vehicle for everything he’d done.
…Danny really hoped this had nothing to do with him. Now that he thought about it, he didn’t appreciate the thermos parallels.
Of course, now that he thought about it, the fact that he’d been stuck in a thermos had to be deliberate. Sure, it was a way to skirt the notice of the Observants, but Clockwork had messed with the timeline before without doing anything sneaky like that. If the thermos was important…. Coupled with the fact that there was a portal being built beneath a place called the Mystery Shack….
“That’s why I’m here.”
“You care to share with the class?” Dipper asked.
“The thermos, the portal—”
“What portal?”
Oops. “The, y’know, whatever, it doesn’t matter, the point is, you said the author of the journals was a paranormal scientist? Maybe an inventor, too?”
“No, no, don’t change the subject. What portal?”
“Like a portal to another dimension?” Mabel queried. “Is that why you talked about interdimensional safety earlier?”
Oh, crud. They weren’t going to let his slip about the portal go. So much for that secret. “Just…never mind that right now. Paranormal scientist. Inventor. Like my parents. He probably didn’t know them, it would’ve been too early on for them to have made a name for themselves, they might not even have been together yet, but…. Okay. This is gonna sound crazy—”
“Crazier than everything else you’ve said?” Dipper asked dryly.
“—but just go with me on this. Please. I know what happened when my parents messed stuff up, and—”
“And you’re warning us so we’re prepared and more careful,” Mabel finished. “So I don’t get impatient and Dipper doesn’t get complacent.”
Danny frowned. “What?”
“Your warning,” she repeated. “You’re not trying to get us to stop what we’re doing. It’s a terrible warning for that. That kind of thing just makes you wanna do it more, whatever it is. So you’re actually warning us to be more careful than you think we would be otherwise.”
Danny opened his mouth to tell her that warning someone not to do something obviously meant they shouldn’t do it, and then he remembered all the times his parents had warned him not to touch stuff in the lab.
Right.
Maybe she wasn’t wrong.
Just because that was what a warning meant, didn’t mean it would always have the desired effect.
Moreover, Clockwork would know exactly what to have Danny say to get the desired effect.
He’d thought he’d come to help with the portal, but he still didn’t know the blueprints of his parents’ portal as well as Tucker did. If this were just about helping them build or fix the portal in the basement without bad consequences, Tucker was a better choice than he was, and Clockwork could most definitely have arranged that.
But Danny had joked about being the poster boy for interdimensional safety, and he could still disassemble and reassemble most of his parents’ weapons in order to tweak them, even if he wasn’t as good at it as Tucker, and he’d be an idiot to keep ignoring the fact that Clockwork had made sure he had a thermos here.
The thermos wasn’t for him. It had never been for him. It had contained him, sure, but Clockwork must’ve made sure he was stuck in one so that he’d think of this. So that he’d think of what they’d done with his evil future self. And so he’d have it when he needed it.
There was a portal in a secret lab in the basement of the Mystery Shack, and the thermos written about in Dipper’s journal was for whatever was coming out of it.

Laxus,Erza and Wendy pls!
Laxus
Sexuality Headcanon:
Bisexual but with a preference for men. Like, a very heavy preference.
Also, I feel like they were in the closet until the aftermath of Fantasia so when they left the guild, they started finding his way with his sexuality and realized that they liked men more.
Gender Headcanon:
Transmasc Demiboy; They/He. They has been out for years, but his chronic illness as a kid made it harder for him to transition medical.
One of the big reasons that Makarov and Laxus grew apart is because Laxus, when they finally got healthy from his dragon lacrima, Laxus wanted to transition immediately, but Makarov warned him that they need to take it slowly. When Laxus turned 18, only a few months before his father was banished, Laxus got top surgery from a sketchy doctor that didn’t care that Laxus wasn’t far enough in his hormone therapy.
A ship I have with said character:
Freed, Natsu, Gray, Hisui, Lisanna, and Gajeel.
A BROTP I have with said character:
Bickslow and Evergreen. They are buds who love each other.
A NOTP I have with said character:
Mirajane. I think they hooked up and had a pseudo-relationship in the past, but they’re just friends.
A random headcanon:
^Does that rant I included with his gender headcanon count?
They really like makeup, but lack the confidence and skill to wear it in public. Evergreen is teaching him, but they are still not ready.
General Opinion over said character:
I really like his chemistry with the guild overall, and I wish they interacted with them outside of his team more.
Erza
Sexuality Headcanon:
Omnisexual with a preference for women. She found the label for them, finally, everyone congratulate our omni queen.
Gender Headcanon:
Transfem Demigirl; She/They. She found out she can be trans without needing to completely identify as a girl and their world was never the same.
A ship I have with said character:
Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Cana, Levy, Juvia, Gajeel, Minerva, Evergreen, Kagura, Millianna, Hibiki, and probably more
A BROTP I have with said character:
Jellal and/or Mirajane. She is both of their exes and they have a shared feeling of not being interested in each other, but wanting to be together, y’know?
A NOTP I have with said character:
Jellal, but it’s more of a nah-tp.
A random headcanon:
Erza loves the feeling of snow, but hates getting cold and wet from picking it up.
General Opinion over said character:
I love them, but she overrated and over-used as hell. Their overpowered bullshit is annoying and I wish she didn’t win every fight she’s in.
Wendy
Sexuality Headcanon:
Baby lesbian. She thought she had a crush on Natsu, but it was really just love for them as a brother. She has that for all the Dragonslayers now.
Gender Headcanon:
Transgirl; She/They. She feels confident in their gender identity, but Dragons also normally use They/Them pronouns, and those make them comfortable too!
A ship I have with said character:
Cheila and Cheila only.
A BROTP I have with said character:
The rest of Team Natsu and the Dragonslayers!
A NOTP I have with said character:
Romeo. I really think that people only ship Romeo with Wendy because they’re around the same age.
A random headcanon:
Soft butch Wendy is my favorite Wendy and I’ll never shut up about it.
General Opinion over said character:
I love her! She’s a super important character but ends up pushed to the sidelines anyways? Like, you set her up to be incredible but then she does pretty much nothing :/.

Chapter 2
chapter 1
Summary: Lucy is your average teenage girl... but she's not, it's complicated but not in a "OH I'm actually a supernatural being" but in a "OH I have to get married as soon as I turn 18" type of way. Problem #1 she doesn't like anyone and problem #2 she might have to marry her dad's friend's son... yay
Disclaimer: This story was created mainly for my friend and has no romance but they are gay so... also I did read over this a bunch but if something doesn’t make sense blame my dyslexia... okay let’s continue
Two things kept Lucy from absolutely despising this town: her friends and the kids she babysits
She loved kids and hoped that one that she herself would be a mother many years from now; however, the way her father decides to control the big aspects of her life it may be sooner than hoped.
Lucy held her coat close to her body as she walked up the snow covered driveway to an unfamiliar house. She dreaded today’s job for two reasons, the first one being the events from the night prior.
She couldn’t believe that she willingly went to Erza’s party knowing she had a job the next morning. Luckily she wasn’t dealing with a hangover however she was running on only about 4 hours of sleep thanks to her lovely friends. She didn’t leave the party till long past 3am all because Levy didn’t want to go home, Lisanna didn’t want to leave without Levy, Mira didn’t want to leave without her sister, and Lucy’s ride was Mira.
There was a small part of her that wanted to ask Natsu and Gray to drive her back to Levy’s house, where she was staying for the night to avoid her father’s questions, as she watched them leave the party at midnight. Her mind unfortunately pushed that idea to the side, she wanted to avoid Natsu for the rest of her life if she could.
Besides it was for the best that she stayed, there was no need in worrying her friends considering they were now almost all phoneless as a very drunk Levy started tossing random phones down the staircase including her own. So Lucy hung around.
The other reason is that the child apparently belonged to one of her father’s friends.
The worst children are the ones that belong to her father’s friends.
Well that’s what she deemed 3 years ago when she first babysat one. The kids were so bratty and disrespectful, Lucy knew kids can be bad sometimes but these kids are over the top.
Lucy was glad that while her mother was alive she showed her love and affection, something these kids unfortunately have probably never experienced.
She felt bad for these on that aspect but she knew these children act that way usually due to their parents neglect
Lucy knocked on the front door and patiently waited for the door to open. Soon she heard shoes clicking against the wooden floors on the inside of the home. As the door opened Lucy was surprised that instead of a 40 something businessman she was greeted by a young woman that was probably in her mid to late 20s. And instead of the frown that is usually present upon these people’s faces Lucy was graced by the warm, big smile on her face. And instead of the usual medium length, fried hair the women she met commonly had from years of damaging their hair from products, this woman had fluffy, long, healthy looking white hair that went past her knees. And instead of the tired looking eyes Lucy was used to, for once she was met with pretty blue eyes.
The woman was dressed in a white sweater, a tan trench coat, matching dress pants and white heels. Her expensive looking purse was hanging from her left shoulder. She was dressed similarly to the others yet she looked like a model showing it off for a new designer brand rather than a woman going to a meeting in a rush and leaving their child with the first teen they could find.
“You must be Lucy” she looked Lucy up and down with non judgemental eyes. Something Lucy had only seen a few times in her life.
It took Lucy a moment to process the words that the lady had said to her as she still took in her appearance. Lucy thought she was beautiful. “OH uh yeah… sorry- sorry about that” she laughed nervously at her embarrassment
“No need to worry dear, I am Grandeeny” she reached a hand out towards Lucy who quickly accepted her hand shake. “Please come in dear, it must be freezing out there” the woman quickly moved out of the way, allowing Lucy access inside the home.
Home was the right word because this one felt warm instead of cold, by just walking inside Lucy could tell that it was full of love.
Lucy took in the beautiful home in front of her. There was a chandelier hanging in the foyer above her head. To the left of her sat a shoe rack that had the shoes neatly stacked on the rack, the only thing giving away that a child lived here were the smaller shoes. Before walking any further into the home Lucy took off her snow covered boots and placed them next to the shoes on the rack.
“I’ll go get my daughter, I’ll be right back” She heard Grandeeny say as Lucy slowly walked deeper into the home.
As she looked around she was impressed with the neatness of the place. Most homes she had been in with young children tended to be cluttered with toys all over the place, even the homes with maids, yet if someone was to tell her that there was not a single speck of dirt in the house she would have believed it.
“Lucy, this is my daughter Wendy” Grandeeny said as she made way back down the stairs, this time with a little girl following behind her.
“Wendy, honey say hello” she said once she got to the bottom as she crouched down beside the girl
“Hello” the little girl waved as she simultaneously twirled a strand of hair around her finger.
The little girl was by far the most well dressed kid she had ever seen outside of a formal setting. She currently wore a white button up with a yellow sweater vest over it and a white skirt. Her hair was fluffy, similar to her mother’s, yet unlike her mother she had dark blue hair that was short.
Lucy couldn’t imagine what she dressed like when she left the home.
“Alright Wendy,” Grandeeny spoke finally “I know you will but please be nice to Miss Lucy while I’m gone”
“Will you be back tonight?” Wendy’s eyebrows furrowed together as she looked up at her mom with big brown eyes
“Unfortunately not honey but don’t worry, later one of your cousins will come by and they will take you anywhere you want, now I gotta go be good” she smiled to her daughter, ruffling her hair a little before she stood back up “Lucy, my number is on the table in the kitchen if you need it, one of my nephews should be by later, 5 maybe, please let me know if they aren’t here around then okay? Okay I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow Wendy.”
“Bye mama” she reached out her arms and pulled Grandeeny’s leg into a hug. Grandeeny smiled at her daughter. Lucy had seen that smile before. She missed it
And before she knew it Grandeeny was gone. But not the gone that Lucy was used to. A gone with a promise to return the next day. It wasn’t empty promises. Lucy missed that too.
“So,” Lucy finally said after a few moments of silence “what do you want to do?” She smiled at the girl as her eyes lit up with excitement
~~~~
“Hey, Miss Lucy?” Wendy said as she painted Lucy’s nails
“Hm?” Lucy looked up from her nails towards the girl in front of her
“Do you have a boyfriend?” Wendy giggled almost as if she was laughing at herself for asking the question
“No I don’t” Lucy replied to the kid in a calm tone, not phased by these types of questions
“Oh… do you have a girlfriend?” This question was the one that caught Lucy off guard, she wasn’t use to kids asking about that
“No- no not that either” Lucy stuttered out
“Aww, why not you’re really pretty”
“Thank you honey but I guess I just don’t like anyone in that way” the information was odd even to Lucy because her whole life she had never felt that way about anyone. She wanted to, she really did but she couldn’t
“Does it feel strange?” Wendy asked another question as she continued to paint Lucy’s nails
“Sometimes…” the little girl only nodded at the comment, still focused
“You talk a lot,” Lucy laughed, Wendy blushed probably from embarrassment Lucy concluded “it makes it sound like you like someone yourself” Lucy watched as Wendy’s face became even more flushed with red than it was and she finally stopped painting
“I…I do” she looked down at her plush rug that the two girls sat on top of “but they don’t like me”
“How do you know?” Lucy felt the need to ask. She wasn’t sure why she was talking about this with a child though
“Because…” Wendy paused and took in a deep breath then with a big huff let out “we’re both girls” Lucy kept quiet at the comment. “Also she is 9 and I’m 7… I think you might see the problem.” Lucy assumed that the problem was that 7 and 9 feel so far from each other even though they are only 2 years apart in age.
“You’re smart,” Lucy commented. Wendy looked at her with confusion evident in her face. “You know these things yet you are so young… most kids don’t talk to me about these things or even think about these types of things.”
“Blame it on my mama I guess.” she shrugged. “She talks to me a lot about… things. She doesn’t have anyone else to talk about things with so she talks to her daughter.”
“You talk mature too” Lucy noted
“Yeah, people tell me how I remind them of mama especially in my speech,” she giggled a little “I guess it is from listening to mama over the years”
Without a doubt Wendy was an intelligent kid, she almost reminded Lucy of herself at that age. Later Lucy would find out that the reason Grandeeny talks to her daughter so much about things was she almost had no one else. All but her brothers stopped talking to her after she got pregnant because she was only seventeen and Wendy’s father wasn’t in the picture. Lucy doesn’t know how or why her dad is friends with Grandeeny considering her past and his odd values. Lucy did know however that Grandeeny was rich and successful so maybe her father just wasn’t familiar with her past but she would never be sure.
“Hey you want to meet my cat?” The earlier conversation had long come to a close and they had finished painting each other's nails, the ones Wendy did might look better Lucy giggled about it to herself.
“Sure” Lucy smiled as Wendy got up from the rug to go fetch her cat. Soon she returns from the other room with a fluffy, white cat in her arms and a big smile plastered on her face.
“Miss Lucy this is Carla, Carla this is Lucy” she introduced the two, waving one of the cat’s paws at Lucy.
Then there is a knock at the door and with a huff Wendy stomped off out of her room towards the front door. Lucy quickly jumped up from the floor and ran after the girl.
The little girl opened the door as soon as Lucy reached the bottom of the stairs and the face that she was greeted with on the other side of the door was one she knew very well yet was the last one she wanted to see anytime soon.
“Natsu! I was just showing her Carla, couldn't you show up at another time.” Wendy whined with the cat still in her arms.
“Sorry Wendy” he chuckled as he made eye contact with Lucy.
Of course it was Natsu Dragneel
@rpwithjayn asked Touching on that "contentment" post/drabble/ask you did not too long ago, does Tony want kids or a spouse? Is he denying himself that because he doesn't think he deserves a family/home life with others?
This delves into a lot of issues for Tony that I haven’t really touched on before. So buckle up kids. We’re going to metaville.
Tony’s been alone for the majority of his life. Both as an adult and as a child. His nonna died when he was seven, taking away the most loving person in his life, and a year later his mother was taken from him in a car accident that almost cost Tony his own life. As soon as Tony was healed enough from that car accident, Senior was shuffling him off to boarding school, tucking him away like that forgotten pair of shoes in the back of the closet. Tony went from being his nonna’s beloved grandson, who had all of her attention and affection, her constant doting and love, to being left behind at a New Jersey boarding school in less than a year and a half. It was jarring for a little boy, and it did serious emotional damage to his psyche, damage that Tony, as a person, has never recovered from, but has instead buried deep down.
Even when Senior didn’t have him locked away in his ivory tower of a boarding school, the man forgot him. Let us not forget that Senior leaving Tony in Hawaii when he was 12 is not my headcanon, but actual NCIS canon. I can’t find the specific episode that gives us this fun fact right now, but it isn’t something that I made up. Senior forgot Tony in Hawaii while there on a ‘business trip’ (read con) and only noticed when Tony started racking up room service bills. What kind of man forgets his own son? Forgets he has a son? A piece of shit, that’s what. But think about what kind of thing that reinforced for a 12 year old Tony, who already felt like his only remaining parent didn’t want him around.
Then when he was ready for high school, Senior shuffled him off, yet again, and sent him to military school, yet another place where Tony was forgotten about. Only this time, it came with a side of self esteem crippling treatment in the form of former military sergeants treating children like actual soldiers. In Cadence (Season 12 Episode 14) we see exactly what kind of military school Tony attended when he was a teenager. It was not a healthy environment. It was run exactly like a boot camp, which, let me tell you, is not a good thing. Boot camp, basic training, etc- they’re meant to beat down the people attending them. They’re meant to psychologically wear you down. And Tony was enduring all of this from the age of 14 (his birthday is in July) to the age of 17. Imagine what kind of psychological damage that does to a teenage whose brain is still forming, especially one who already suffers from abandonment issues.
Now that we’ve established that Tony has abandonment issues, and other psychological issues stemming from his childhood, let’s talk about his adulthood, and how he’s been alone for most of his adulthood too.
Tony only has one friend remaining from college, a man by the name of Steve. In the show, all we know about him is that his name is Steve, he’s a lawyer, and he was Tony’s frat brother. That’s it. That’s all we’re told. I’ve expounded on that briefly, and added on that Steve is the guy who helped Tony become a better person, his support system when he decided he could no longer live the life he was living, when he decided he needed to make a personal change. Steve’s the only guy who stuck with Tony through it all. Steve’s it, as far as Tony’s support system goes.
Tony’s only real relationship, prior to joining NCIS, was a woman named Wendy. She’s a reporter. They met in Baltimore. I headcanon, due to my Tony’s nature and personality, that Tony and Wendy’s relationship was one of convenience. A “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” arrangement. They were friends, and they were close, but they did not love each other the way lovers do, despite getting engaged. Still, when Wendy (canonically) left Tony standing at the altar, it shattered something in him, reinforced that Tony was unlovable, that he wasn’t someone deserving of affection and love. Shortly thereafter, he received a job offer from Gibbs (more like an order) and he joined NCIS, while he was in a personal spiral of self destruction.
Let’s talk NCIS. There’s so much I could talk about within NCIS itself that reinforces Tony’s belief that he doesn’t deserve any love and affection, that he deserves to be alone, that he doesn’t deserve anything good in his life, but I’m only going to touch on one thing and one person, because this meta is already long, and we all know that I could go on for days about what NCIS has done to my boy.
So. We’re going to talk about Jeanne Benoit. I’ve metaed about Jeanne before, and you can find it here. But we’re going to talk about the aftermath of Jeanne leaving Tony. Because, while Tony is homosexual, and therefore not physically attracted to women, he is demiromantic, and perfectly capable of falling in love emotionally with a woman. Such is the case with Jeanne Benoit. Tony loved her. She was the first person he ever truly felt romantic love for. And when she, rightfully -even in his mind-, left Tony after discovering that everything he had told her was a lie, he crashed and burnt. He was heartbroken. This was yet another case of a person who he had cared about, who he had loved, abandoning him, telling him that he didn’t deserve love. Then, mere months later, she was framing him for murder, trying to get him arrested for a crime that he didn’t commit. That goes beyond anger at being lied at. That’s betrayal, pure and simple. But Tony felt that he deserved it, because he’d done something so terrible (lied to her) and if she felt that he should belong in prison, then obviously he did.
Tony’s been told, shown, and demonstrated to, for his entire life, that he doesn’t deserve nice things. Everyone around him, with the exception of Steven Stone and his nonna, has shown him unequivocally that he doesn’t deserve to be loved, that he doesn’t deserve happiness. They’ve proven to him with their actions that he’s such a piece of shit that no one should care about him. He’s taken those words and actions to heart, because they started when he was a child, long before his nonna died when he was 7.
So it doesn’t matter what Tony may want in his heart. Because he does want a family, someone to love him, to be there for him. He has so much love in his heart, so much that he’s willing to give to another person. We can see that in how much he gives to his team, how much he sacrifices over and over again to make sure that his team is taken care of. Tony has so much love he’s willing to give. But, does he believe he deserves love? No. Does he believe he’s ever going to get love? Also no. History has told him that no one will ever love a man like Anthony D. DiNozzo Jr. And he’s made peace with that because he’s had no choice but to make peace with it. If he wanted to find any shred of happiness, he was going to have to make peace with the fact that he was going to be alone forever. So he did.
TLDR; Yes he wants a family. No, he doesn’t think he deserves a family.
----------------------------------------------
When asked about the best moment in their life, for an individual person it might be the moment they have achieved some goal or an important thing they have longed for.
But if you ask a parent, they will say anything done by their children is their euphoric moment.
Mika Ul Fullbuster, 9, youngest child of Gray and Juvia was a very special child. Of course, every child is special for parents but what made her even more special is that; she was born prematurely around two months before the due date which greatly affected her development and immune system.
On top of that, the little girl developed magic sickness, a condition where a high amount of magic power was in her system much similar to Ultear's childhood condition which Ur had mentioned as Gray remembered.
But Porlyusica and Wendy made sure to treat and completely heal their little girl with the magic portion due to advancement in magic and medical facilities.
Due to this sickness, Mika had always been a slow and dull child. She would easily be exhausted as compared to children of her age.
There was not even a day where Gray and Juvia never stopped worrying about their daughter's condition but made sure to be optimistic in front of her so that the little girl doesn't lose hope and keep fighting.
It was just a year back Wendy had informed them after Mika's monthly check-up that by age of ten, she would be alright as there was improvement over the years and also her magic level was stabilizing.
Even though Mika was slow and dull most of the time, she never forgot to smile and be friendly with her friends and uncles and aunts at the guild.
She was very fond of her elder brother, Ur Silver Fullbuster, 15, who also felt the same for his sister. He took it upon his shoulder to protect his little sister in their parents' absence.
When it was time to start education for Mika, by that time, Magnolia had its own magic school where it taught the children of mages and others skills and combat style related to the type of magic they specialized in.
It was due to Queen Hisui's ordinance to teach the younger generation the art and glory of magic, she had set up this magic academy at every major town and offered a three years course on the same.
Most of the children of Fairy Tail studied and graduated from this academy. So when it was time to enrol their little girl, both Gray and Juvia were reluctant in sending her adhering to her health condition.
But once Master Makarov, Porlyusica, Wendy and their friends convinced them that it would be a new atmosphere for the little girl and would aid in her recovery, the parents finally agreed.
Their friends made sure to teach their kids to be helpful and protective of their friend if any other kids teases or harasses Mika.
As truth to the words, once she started school things with her began to have a positive change as she didn't show much exhaustion and tiredness as compared before, all thanks to schools and medical aids.
Her friends, Igneel Dragneel, 10, youngest of Natsu and Lucy, Eva Redfox, 10, youngest of Gajeel and Levy, Rob Fernandez, 10, middle child of Erza and Jellal and finally, Wenma Conbolt, 9, eldest of Wendy and Romeo were her friends.
Even though Mika was actually good in academics, she didn't flare much in practical and sports class which disheartened her very much.
Gray and Juvia will always encourage her every time when she loses her hope just like now.
The Fullbusters were currently having dinner while Juvia served them happily and made sure they had taken much to fill their tummy.
As Ur told his father about his recent mission which he had taken with his friends enthusiastically which made the Gray feel proud of his son as he was the main reason his team could complete the assigned mission.
As soon as Ur finished telling Gray his tales, Mika butted in, "Papa, do you know in two days time, our school is going to conduct 'Sports Day'. So I'm thinking of taking part in it."
Mika said gleefully but the parents began to frown, "Oh that's great dear, so what all events are to you taking part in? Can we also come?"
Juvia butted in before Gray could say something which the little girl wasn't expecting her father to tell.
Gray looked at his wife but she smiled and handled the situation. Mika happily told her parents the list of events she wanted to take part.
"Okay dear, so from tomorrow let's practice and make you fully prepared for the event." Gray encouraged her and showed his fist which his daughter bumped in agreement. Even Juvia and Ur did the same.
Later at night, when Gray asked Juvia, "Why didn't you stop her from taking part? I know she's excited but I don't want to see her to be depressed like last time and fall sick." He said and looked sad at the memories of last year.
It took nearly a week to convince the little girl which greatly hurt the parents to see their child being upset and fell sick which took another week to fully heal. For them, if their kids are happy and healthy that meant everything to them.
But for Mika, winning a prize seemed way more important and didn't give a care about her health condition.
"I know Gray-sama but she's excited and this time she believes she will win at least one event and make us feel proud. That's what she told me now." Juvia told her husband and placed her hands to his cheeks.
"Juvia, the way she's now itself makes me feel proud about her. She doesn't need to prove anything else. I don't want my baby to fall sick even more. You know right, we still have a year until her condition stabilizes, so why to add unwanted pressure and stress and make all the treatment futile." Gray gave his reasons as he still can't forget those moments where he saw his little girl suffer.
"Even I can't forget those memories. I also want Mika-chan to get well soon. That's what, I have been waiting for these many years, Gray-sama. But we can't discourage her and break her hopes right. Let's make sure she doesn't stress out much." Juvia tried to convince her husband which she succeeded finally.
Then for the next two days, the Fullbuster men trained Mika in such a way that she didn't exhaust her completely.
But her water magic was still of low power, even though her sickness was pertaining to high levels of magic in the system but she couldn't yield much out and that's what made her sickness difficult.
"Papa, why come my magic's not powerful? See it couldn't even break that log of wood." Mika began to cry. She looks clearly defeated and lost hopes in winning this particular event.
Gray knelt down to her height and patted her head, "Dear, it will take time as you are drinking these magic portions to control your instability of power. See next year, once your problem gets sorted out you will become so stronger than us. So dear, tomorrow just try your best and know one thing we are proud of you no matter what because you are our Mika."
He hugged her and held her in his arms like a baby even if she was a bit old for that.
The next day, Mika's friends had come to fetch their friend so that everyone could go together.
"Good morning kids" Juvia greeted them happily.
"Good morning, Aunty. Is Mika-chan ready?" They asked in unison.
"She just finished eating her breakfast. Come inside while she gets ready." Juvia invited the kids to the living room and went to the kitchen to prepare some sandwiches for her son who would be up in half an hour.
Mika came down and went out of the house along with her friends after shouting bye to her mother which Juvia said back.
But after sometime, that's when she realized that her baby didn't drink her portion.
Soon she went to wake her Gray-sama's and urged him to get ready so that they could go for the sports day together just a few minutes before so that Mika could drink up her healing potion.
"What? Juvia, how can you be careless? Just wait, let me get ready. We will leave soon so get the things ready. Is Ur coming with us?" Gray asked as he kept yawning.
Juvia informed that Ur was going with his friends and left the room so that her husband could get ready.
Once they reached the academy and went to the playground where the event was going to take place. As they searched for a place to sit, they spotted their friends calling them out and showed them the empty spaces.
"Gray, Juvia, what made you guys run late? Event has already begun. Luckily, you guys just missed the torch lighting ceremony." Lucy exclaimed.
"Yeah!! You should have seen my boy. He looked so manly, my Iggy." Natsu exclaimed proudly.
"Oh shut up! My boy was the one to pass that torch to your son Natsu. Even my Rob looked so gallant." Erza reasoned out but Jellal stopped her and adjusted his 5 year old daughter, Rose, on his laps also.
Juvia worried and hoped to find a small gap so that she could give her daughter the potion before the events.
Soon the main events began to take place, as said in the inaugural speech by the principal.
Firstly, it was a 200m race for boys. Then Gray spotted his daughter near the stage who looked serious but he smiled as she looked quite adorable thinking about something.
Then, he saw her turning and talking to one boy whom he didn't recognize but from the looks it looked like that little guy was making fun of his daughter as he saw her tongue and went to get part in the race.
Gray clenched his fist and made sure to talk to his parents about this later. But the race was won by him not only but most of the events were won by that boy in either of the three positions.
When it was time for the girl's event to commence, Gray and Juvia were shocked to see that their girl's name was almost there in every game which made the parents worry.
Sensing their discomfort, Lucy and others asked for their reason and slowly they disclosed everything to them.
Juvia got up and went to meet her daughter so that at least, she could drink that medicine but the teachers didn't allow her stating it might cause hindrance to her during the games.
Juvia then went to meet her daughter and convinced Mika to not take part in every competition but her daughter was so determined and consoled her mother not to worry about her.
Once Juvia reached her place next to Gray, she couldn't stop tearing up and watched her baby struggle in a way to finish every game.
Till now, she had competed in almost every game but she couldn't secure even one small victory and ended up coming last which earned laughter from her classmates especially the bullies.
Mika's friends warned those bullies but they didn't stop and kept on teasing her with words like 'weak', 'pathetic' and 'loser'.
The parents could see Mika was literally on the verge of breaking down and was also physically exhausted.
Gray couldn't take it anymore and went to the teacher to retrieve his daughter back before her condition became worse.
"Mika dear, come. It's enough. You are exhausted, baby. Please don't stress yourself much. Enough please come with us." Gray called out to his daughter and his voice began to crack as it hurt him to see his child being in pain and suffering.
Mika almost agreed to her dad's advice and began to move towards him until the boy who bullied her in the morning spoke," Yeah! You are a baby weirdo. You are not fit to be a mage. You are just an eye sore, that's why your parents don't want you to perform." He began to laugh.
Gray dashed to beat the shit out that little punk for speaking bad about his daughter but luckily Mika stopped her dad and wiped those tears.
"Papa, let me just take part in this one game. I'm sure. I will win this. Please!" Mika pleaded with him, clearly tiredness laced in her voice.
But her friends told her she doesn't need to prove anything to the bully who left before he got beaten by Gray.
Gray knelt down, "Dear, you look tired. If things keep happening, you will fall sick which will affect your health adversely. Please try to understand,dear." He patted her shoulders.
But Mika didn't budge and was determined to finish this last game called MPF.
All the kids of her class were part of it. This was basically to count out there magic power levels.
Mika was made to stand at last so that she could rest a bit before the match. Juvia was crying to see her baby struggling to prove herself even if her condition was not proper.
Till now, it was Igneel and Eva who held first and second place respectively. Then Rob took over Eva's spot. And the third place was held by that bullying punk.
When it was Mika's turn finally, Gray and Juvia just prayed to God that nothing serious should happen to their daughter at the end.
But the little girl was determined and concentrated her water magic before blasting the MPF with her full power.
"Water Hurricane"
Juvia's eyes widened in surprise and got up, "Gray-sama, that move requires more power. This will cause her immense damage to her body." She kept on crying and soon moved towards the ground after excusing herself.
Once the MPF registered the attack, Mika fell unconscious. Soon her friends, teacher and parents came to her aid.
After an hour, at the guild's infirmary, when Mika woke up, she felt her body beaten up and slowly turned around to spot her mother crying while her dad consoling her mother.
"Mama"
"Oh my God!! You are finally awake, dear" Juvia hugged her daughter and kept sobbing while the little girl patted her mother's back.
"Dear, are you feeling alright?" Gray asked and sat next to them.
Once Juvia broke the hug, Mika began to cry, "I'm sorry, mama, papa. I couldn't make you guys proud. I'm such a loser. I will never achieve anything in my life"
Both the parents hugged her simultaneously and teared up a bit and patted her little body, "You know what dear, you made us proud. We were in euphoric state right now because you not only won second place in that MPF game but also your sickness got completely cured. We are elated dear. Finally, our prayers had been answered. We are proud of you, Mika-chan"
Juvia smiled and disclosed the happy news.
Mika's blue eyes widened due to shock, "Mama and papa, I'm happy that finally I made you both feel proud of me."
"Yes dear, you are our precious child. We were beyond the world to see you accomplish something this great. As your parents, we are extremely happy and proud." Gray said gleefully.
Of course, as a parent they were extremely happy and joyful to see their child who not only accomplished something she worked hard upon when she had an disadvantage.
And they were sure for the rest of their life, this moment will always bring euphoria to them whenever they think about it.
More cute markhyuck please
ask and you shall receive 😌✨
let’s go for aged up!markhyuck with kids
mark & donghyuck finally have their shit togeher
their careers are stable, they have a steady income, they recently just got engaged, they just became dog dads after adopting a cavapoochon puppy named alfred
so they start looking at houses bc hyuck’s always imagined being carried thru the treshold of his dream home after his wedding
their real estate agent, irene, shows them a few houses and none of them feel right
either the house is too big or too small, or the floor plan is weird af, or the neighborhood vibe just isn’t right
despite all that, mark & hyuck are still optimistic
finally, irene shows them a renovated brownstone and they know that it’s the one
mark & hyuck are more than happy to put a down on the house and close the deal
they start moving in a few weeks later
hyuck loves ikea and just decorating in general so you best believe he drags mark to ikea multiple times a week to furnish their new home (they also order furniture and other stuff online but ikea is where it’s at)
when their house is full of houseplants and aesthetically pleasing decorations, hyuck plans a housewarming party
the smile on mark’s face doesn’t falter the whole time that hyuck is playing good hostess
also alfred loves the house, especially the backyard
hyuck lowkey imagines raising his and mark’s little family in their home and he gets a bit teary at the thought of their kids running around the 3-story brownstone
it’s winter now and they spend nights cuddling in their living room with alfred at their feet, rewatching harry potter while sipping hot chocolate
more often than not, jaehyun (hyuck’s step-brother) finds them tangled up in each other in the early mornings and he always sneaks pictures to send to the markhyuck gc
flash forward to hyuck and mark’s wedding
it’s a spring wedding that’s held outside and hyuck can’t believe he’s really getting married to the dork from next door
mark cries when hyuck reads him his vows and vise versa (the first part of hyuck’s vows were lyrics from jb’s boyfriend)
ofc their first dance has to be to mj’s love never felt so good
mark carries hyuck thru the threshold bridal style and they’re both giggling between kisses like fools in love
they’re flight to bora bora isn’t until the next morning so they spend the night in high spirits while having slow, soft sex
bora bora is amazing and they take so many pictures and eat so much food and spend so much time in each other’s arms
but like all good things, they’re honeymoon comes to an end 2 weeks later and they’re back to work and falling back into their normal routine
mark & hyuck always make dinner togeher on friday nights while blasting mark’s r&b playlist
slow dancing in the kitchen y’all
and singing duets while they’re doing the dishes
dancing with alfred in their arms
just mark & hyuck being in love and being cute with their dog
it’s 2 years into their marriage and alfred isn’t a puppy anymore but a cute 2 year old doggo that mark brings up the subject of kids
hyuck is excited bc he’s been imagining raising kids with mark for the longest
they weigh their options and decide to adopt and have kids thru surrogacy
bc mark has always wanted a big family and hyuck being from a big family himself can’t imagine a house without it being full
the adoption process is long and a rollercoaster full of emotions but it was all worth it
they bring home haechan (who’s 2 yrs old) and his biological sister haerin (who’s only 10 months old) just a little after mark’s birthday
alfred is protective of his new human siblings and loves it when haechan gives him belly rubs
haechan is very clingy and very affectionate towards whereas his sister is aloof and doesn’t like it when people try to hug/kiss her
but bring hyuck around and haerin is a whole different person
she clings to donghyuck like a koala and mark might be just a little jealous
hyuck and mark don’t play favorites but obviously their kids have their preferences when it comes to which parent they like
bath time with haechan is a dramatic affair and mark always ends up soaked from head to toe
haerin only lets hyuck bathe her but prefers when mark dresses her. she will scream and scream if donghyuck even tries to dress her after bath time
donghyuck learns that hard way that if you tell a kid no, they’ll still do it anyways
mark learns that you shouldn’t promise kids anything bc they WILL remember and they WILL have a fit if you don’t keep that promise
parenting is difficult but they’re new parents and they’re trying their best ok
haechan is 3 and haerin is almost 2 when mark & hyuck start to look into surrogacy
mark and hyuck find a full service surrogacy agency
and then there’s lawyers involved to discuss terms and compensation for the surrogate and mark asking awkward questions about turkey basters but everything is smooth sailing once they decide who’s going to be the ‘donor’ first
funnily enough, they play rock paper scissors and hyuck wins
mark doesn’t mind bc either way he’s still going to have a baby at the end of it
their surrogate is a woman called wendy and mark bonds with her since they’re both from canada
hyuck is very attentive and he makes sure that wendy is comfortable and taken care of all while managing to be a full-time parent and a full-time PR director
how he does it?? mark thinks it sorcery
haechan kind of knows what’s going on and he’s excited to have another sibling
haerin’s nice and all but she doesn’t share and she makes him cry so maybe a brother would be nice
when wendy starts showing, haechan is eager to feel on her belly while haerin turns her nose up at the sight and hides in donghyuck’s arms
mark lowkey cries at the gender reveal bc omg another little girl?!
their family and friends are excited to have another little girl in the family
mark thinks he’s imagining it but maybe haerin looks lowkey pissed
time skip~
wendy gives birth to a healthy baby girl and she’s more than happy to hand the baby over, wishing hyuck and mark good luck with their baby and their growing family
sure, they keep in touch, but it’s better this way and plus they have a contract
mark names the baby michelle (bc he knows donghyuck loves mj)
when haechan and haerin meet their new sibling, it’s like love t first sight
tbh hyuck is a bit surprised that haerin takes a liking to the newborn bc of her indifference to most things
alfred is of course is eager to sniff the new baby. he finally has another sibling!
having a newborn is different from having toddler and an almost toddler
michelle is fussy for a few weeks and donghyuck really doesn’t know what to do
fortunately mark took family leave and hyuck swears that his husband is a baby whisperer
so while hyuck takes care of the older kids and alfred, mark feeds and bathes and changes michelle’s diapers like a pro
their family and friends start to visit them more often now
haerin is always happy to see her uncle jaehyun while haechan clings to his uncle taeil like no tomorrow
michelle, now almost 3 months, basks in the attention she gets whenever there’s company in the house
what can i say, she likes being held
another fast forward in time
haechan is now in kindergarten and haerin is in pre-k and michelle is now 2 and there’s another baby on the way
well, babies
yup, it’s twins
donghyuck fainted when the doctor told them and thankfully mark was there to catch him
their surrogate isn’t wendy this time
they get matched with a woman called krystal and she lowkey reminds mark of jaehyun
jaehyun: seriously when are y’all going to stop having kids, hyuck: mind your business
donghyuck has long since stepped down was the PR director and now manages social media for the company he works for
he prefers to stay at home and work at home and just be with his kids and their dog
when mark comes home, he’s greeted by the pattering of little feet and claws before he’s surrounded by his kids (and he’s, alfred counts too)
they all hang off of him, all eager to tell him about his day as he carries haerin and michelle in each arm and haechan on his back
donghyuck as usual greets him with a quick peck on the lips and reminds him to wash up
mark always sets the girls and haechan down before he washes up
they always wait patiently behind him and pounce on him again when he’s done drying his hands
it’s become a part of their routine now; to cuddle mark while recalling their days while hyuck makes dinner in the kitchen
they kids weren’t allowed in the kitchen while hyuck is cooking after haerin managed to set a paper towel roll on fire
anyways, dinner with the lees
it’s loud, it gets messy, and sometimes food is thrown bc haerin doesn’t take shit from anybody, especially not her older brother who’s just a cry baby
honestly hyuck wonders why his daughter is so angry all the time and he makes a mental not to sign her up for some activities to get her anger out
she’s only 4 for crying out loud
the next and final babies of the lee family are born and they’re fraternal twins
the first twin is a girl and donghyuck names her heaven (“really, hyuck? heaven lee?” “shut up mark it’s cute”) the second twin is a boy who mark names minhyuk
unlike michelle, heaven and minhyuk are angels and they sleep thru the night and they don’t fuss (as much)
both sets of grandparents are happy to spoil all of the kids despite mark and donghyuck’s protests
raising 4 kids that are slightly close in age proves to be difficult for mark and donghyuck
they have many sleepless nights and sometimes they can even feel the exhaustion deep in their bones
but they wouldn’t have it any other way
alfred is usually a good distraction when haerin and haechan are fighting so that’s a plus
the day heaven and minhyuk are potty trained and are able to eat on their own, hyuck cries
haerin catches her papa crying and hugs him without asking any questions
that’s one of the things donghyuck loves about his daughter: she doesn’t pry and she’ll offer comfort without any hesitation (unless it’s haechan ofc bc she really can’t stand her brother)
a few more years pass...(haechan is now 10, haerin is 9, michelle is 7, and the twins are now 5)
hyuck ends up signing haerin up for taekwondo and haechan starts to take ballet, michelle is taking piano lessons, and the twins are taking cooking classes
the one activity they all do togeher is take korean language classes bc donghyuck will be dammed if their kids only spoke one language
mark and donghyuck keep the kids busy bc they’re so high in energy and they need to burn it off so they usually take them out bowling or hiking or any fun family activities mark can think of doing
and sometimes their cousins join in and it’s pure and utter chaos but let’s not get into that
bc hyuck is home with the kids, he tend to keep them on a tight schedule to get hw done, chores done, and anything else so that they had time to do what they liked
honestly donghyuck would like to think that he and mark have done a pretty decent job raising the little gremlins considering the fact that haerin was a walking and talking hulk but in recent years she’s calmed down thanks to taekwondo and playing sports
bc there’s so many females in the house, mark decides to research about the menstual cycle and he even joins a few forums so that he’s ready to give his daughters the talk when the time comes
to say haerin did not look happy to be talking to her dad about her bleeding vagina would be an understatement
but michelle and heaven makeup for haerin’s disdain and they hug mark and thank him for everything
mark might’ve shed a tear afterward and haerin might’ve also hugged mark and thanked him before giving him the rolling her eyes at him and locking herself in her room
when the family dog passes away a few years later, the kids are devestated and they lock themselves in their rooms until hyuck calls them out to eat or remind them to finish their hw and their chores
it’s sad really and it breaks mark’s heart
he’s discussed getting another pet for the kids but hyuck didn’t want them to go thru another heartbreak so that plan was tossed out
suddenly after a month the kids are back in high spirits
haerin isn’t even screaming at her sisters or teasing haechan so mark knows something is up
that something ends up being a stray kitten that’s hidden in their basement and hyuck spends an hour lecturing his grown kids (haechan, haerin are in hs now, michelle is in middle school, while the twins are in elementary school) about harboring a stray kitten
towards the end of the lecture hyuck is cuddling their new kitten (heaven names him sol after the sun god bc he’s an orange tabby) and he’s cooing, not even paying attention when haechan and minhyuk low-five discreetly
mark just shakes his head, smiling fondly at his kids when he reminds them not to pull another stunt like this
they don’t take home seriously ofc
tbh hyuck is scarier than mark so we all know who does the grounding and the punishing at home
1 day, the kids come home and michelle is scratched and bruised up and hyuck feels his blood pressure rise when he spots blood on his baby girl’s shirt as she hands him a slip of paper that says she’s been suspended for a week
“papa, it’s the other girls” “damn my little girl is a scrapper” “now is NOT the time to encourage this type of behavior MARK LEE”
michelle explains to her parents that she found minhyuk being bullied by a group of girls for wearing nail polish and ‘feminine’ clothes to school and she wasn’t going to resort to violence but one of the girls called her baby brother the b-word
haerin is beaming and praising her younger sister, dragging her away to clean her up while heaven trails behind them, not wanting to be left behind
haechan comforts his younger brother and tells him that it’s okay to dress however he likes and that other peoples opinions don’t matter
mark wants to explode bc omg his kids are so good?? what?? how’d that even happen??
he just really loves his husband and his kids. wow.
okay that’s all i have. i’m sorry if it’s not good anon. i really did try my best. feel free to send me prompts or whatever they’re called lol. my ask box is always open 😌
Love you (till Kingdom Come)
Mark-centric apocalypse au preview.
Tomorrow is the day we will all die. We’re actually going to step out onto the streets because we’ve ran out of food. God bless Seoul’s good water supply though, I’ll definitely miss it after it shuts down. Joohyun noona called Seulgi noona when she thought we were sleeping, but everyone knows how worried she is. The thing is, Seulgi noona didn’t pick up, so we don’t talk about it. Maybe her phone was just dead and she couldn’t charge it, like who has the leisure to do that nowadays? Anyways thank goodness for Joohyun noona’s motherly tendencies, Donghyuck and I have like tonnes of healthy food in our fridge that we hardly ate cos we were too lazy to cook. For the first time in years did I miss going for 8am classes in uni damn. I actually miss the lectures and the cheap coffee and the nice asshole that is Lucas Wong. I wonder how he’s doing. And the girls too. But my phone has finally died a couple days ago which is not very reassuring. In times like these you have to make do I guess. Stay positive.
—
Wendy noona and Jeno went out to get food and didn’t come back, so we don’t talk about it. Kim Yerim and her brother knocked on our door and gave Joohyun noona a fucking heart attack. Turns out they were looking for friends that survived or something? I kind of know Yerim from Econs so we’re acquaintances I guess. So they said they have a van that can fit us all and uh we kinda have to trust them cos we’re literally starving to death. Farewell to the apartment I’ve known for 2 years. Donghyuck cried a little on the way down and I pretended not to notice. Good luck to the times ahead, that’s all I can say.
Yerim and Junmyeon hyung’s van is more or less what you expect in this kind of situation. They have food and supplies tucked in the back seats so the 3 of us squashed into the middle row while Yeri and Junmyeon took the front row to drive. They parked it in the park-forest-garden thing behind our apartment building, so we couldn’t really see the street from where we snuck to the van. Junmyeon seems a bit worried about the noise, for good reason. Donghyuck looks super chill but Joohyun noona can see his anxiety too. Basically everyone is on edge. I predict a lot more of on-edge-ness in the future.
So when we drove out it was terrifying. I don’t know how they did it, looking at those things; I closed the curtains and shut my eyes and Donghyuck did the same and he started clinging onto me again. It’s just the first hour away and I already miss home. Damn. Got to stay sane though, we played chopsticks and Donghyuck swore he won 20+ times. He’s being deliberately annoying again which is annoying obviously, but I think we can get our minds off life in general. Joohyun noona has been pretty silent, which is usually a bad sign.
We just drove for hours and hours and they said we’re going to the countryside. It make sense I guess, with the population density and stuff. I miss geog haha. I think we’re going north into Goyang. Never been there, I’m Canadian. Like Wendy.
At like dusk, we unpacked some instant foods or rations and we ate really little. At least we have some water and things from home. Donghyuck brought his red flannel and we shared my blanket to sleep. We rolled down the windows a tiny bit so we won’t suffocate to death, which is a really sad way to die and closed all the curtains. This is our first time sleeping outside our apartment so it’s kind of scary. Mayhaps Junmyeon and Joohyun are our foster parents now haha.
—
It was pretty okay so far. We drove even more and bumped into some things at a gas station but everyone was alright. We also broke into the convenience store but most things have already been taken away. We don’t even have a first aid kit, man.
Junmyeon got mugged when he went to check out a pharmacy. It was terrifying at first because we thought he was gone, but it turned out to be actual people! We made friends and everyone was super antsy at first. I think it was alright after a few introductions and chats. They were around Junmyeon‘ s age apparently, so old haha, and the dude with the silver hair is Baekhyun and the other dude with the loud voice is Jongdae. Anyhow we decided to join forces and pooled our resources and turns out they have some legit weapons and meds and stuff which is nice, we only had melee and band aids. We piled onto the van which is getting quite crowded now, but no one complains cos there’s no luxury to complain right now. Donghyuck is okay I guess, he is just kinda quiet, that kid. I guess these circumstances even take away the brightness of the sun.
Well, we can definitely cuddle a bit for a little reassurance.
Redamancy Pt 14
.pairing. baekhyun x reader x jongin .genre. angst .length. 4.5k .warnings. blood, fighting
pt1. pt2. pt3. pt4. pt5. pt6. pt7. pt8. pt9. pt10. jongin pov. pt11. pt12. pt13. pt14. jongin end. baekhyun end.
You press your lips together, thanking Sehun as he clicks the shiny silver chest plate closed in the back, before taking a step back. Your younger brother runs a hand through his black hair, before nodding solemnly. “You look like the Tin man.”
With a smile, you raise your eyebrow at him. “Not any more than you do.” Sehun’s silver armor fits a lot better than yours does. Chest plate, thigh plates and arm plates, all shining brightly in the sunlight. You could have never expected when you decided to come back that you’d end up in the middle of a civil war.
A voice clears behind you, and you turn to face it. It’s the fairy prince, Suho. He rubs his neck, before taking a step towards you both. In his two hands he holds little bags. “Thought you might like these in case of trouble.” You take them gratefully, handing one over to the taller boy next to you and bow to thank the prince.
He stands with a good fifty others, all dressed in the same silver coated armour and dark swords. He gives you two another nod before turning back to his people, talking among them quietly. They gave you the armour, and are now putting their lives at risk to protect your home, and you can’t help but feel grateful.
You sigh deeply though, feeling your stomach sink with anticipation. You’ve been in a fight with Hook and his men. You got out alive, all of you, but barely and this sends spikes of worry to your belly. Kyungsoo, for one, is still not healed the way he’s supposed to. You hate the thought of getting your best friends hurt. You look from Sehun, who stands with a deep frown looking out over the horizon, to the hut.
“I’m gonna find the others.” You mumble, earning a soft hum from your younger brother. With swift steps you’re up the small set of stairs and opening the door. Dust flies around in the light that falls sharply on the floor. So many memories are bound to this place, old and new, kids’ laughter and a young girl’s tears, scratches and marks unerasable in your mind. You take a deep breath. You’d do anything to protect it.
You turn on your heel when a soft cough breaks your daydream, coming from the landing. Baekhyun stands with his soft gaze on you, hands in his pockets and a sword around his waist. You blink up at him, seeing the light as it surrounds him like a halo. You smile softly when he mouths a ‘hey’. As you take a step closer, Baekhyun descends, coming to a halt in front of you.
“What are you doing here still?” He smiles, brushing some hair behind your ear and lifting your face towards him with the back of his hand. “I thought you were outside already.”
You nod, pulling up your nose, and leaning into his touch a little. “I think I was saying goodbye.” You swallow, catching his eyes again, and take his free hand in yours. “I’m scared, Baekhyun.” You whisper, unable to keep a shudder out of your voice. “I’m scared that people will get hurt, that they might- That I might never see this place again. And for what?”
Baekhyun pulls you a little closer, holding you loosely to his chest. Your hands fist into his collar, holding on tight. He smiles as he presses a kiss to your temple. “If I were to ask you to stay out of the fight, would you?” You don’t need to answer that, the answer very obviously no, and Baekhyun continues with a smile. “You can ask, but we’re all here to fight for our home, Y/N. This place is the only place we have. It’s all I have.”
He pulls back to look you in the eyes, a glimmer there that makes your heart flutter. He’s always been the purest person you know, and even now that still stands. “You don’t have to worry about us. I’ve been teaching all of them how to sword fight ever since they were scrawny little kids.” He giggles as he brushes your cheek again, and leans his forehead to yours. “I even thought you, remember?”
You hum. “I remember.” A smile breaks through. Baekhyun stays quiet for a bit longer, before breaking away with a little frown.
“We’ll all be fine.” He says it surely, almost as if to convince the universe that it would really be so. “I should probably go find Sehun and Chanyeol.” You bite your lip and nod, taking a step back to let him pass by you. Baekhyun flashes his square smile once more, winking at you. “Jongin is upstairs, with Kyungsoo.” After that he leaves the house, moving to talk to Suho before the door falls shut behind him.
You smile to yourself, and move up the stairs slowly. Baekhyun is really a happy and innocent kid at heart. No matter how much time passes, he still has the same shimmer in his eyes and spring in his step. You breathe deeply, closing your eyes for a second to breathe out a wish. That he would never grow up.
You reach the second floor, quiet as the rest of the house but from one room you hear soft mumbles. You knock softly, peering around the door. Kyungsoo is sitting on the bed, while Jongin walks around, his armor shimmering in the orange light that falls through the curtains. You clear your throat and enter, calling the attention of both males to you. “Baekhyun has gone outside so… I think we should all meet downstairs. Tide is still rising rapidly and they’ll be here soon.”
Jongin’s face goes from a frown to a loving calmness in just seconds of hearing your voice, and soon he’s wrapped his long arms around you. His warm skin sends lightning bolts down yours, as if electricity is encasing you two. Jongin holds for a few seconds, before pulling back with a deep breath, and petting your hair. “You look beautiful, but I hate seeing you in armor.” He mumbles, looking down at the floor.
You giggle, and brush some of his brown hair out of his eyes. “I think it looks quite dashing on me.”
“It makes me worry that you’re gonna get hurt.” He responds, pouting.
You laugh again, cheeks flushing pink. “I’m still a better sword fighter than you are. I should be more worried about you.”
He looks at you with big eyes. “When did we ever establish that you were better than me?” You smile and pull him close, pressing a kiss to his cheek, while Jongin pulls in some air. “Fine,” he breathes then, “you’re better. But then you definitely can’t get hurt, okay?” His dark eyes flick over every part of your face, before smiling in that way only he can. Full of adoration and trust and love.
“Okay-” you grin, only to be disrupted by Sehun calling his name from outside. Jongin huffs, breaking away slowly and rushing out the door. Only after you’ve stared him down, you look back around the room, noticing Kyungsoo still sitting on the bed. He looks at you, lips flattened.
“You and Jongin-?”
You smile, and come to sit next to him on the bed, falling backwards. “Yeah. Long story, no time to tell.” Kyungsoo giggles but nods in understanding, his shoulders moving with the sound. He looks a lot more healthy, but your gut tells you to speak up. “I’m probably the last one telling you, but you shouldn’t fight with us.”
Kyungsoo looks over at you, brows furrowed. “I’m fine, Y/N, really. And you got hurt too and-”
“And I just got a cut in my shoulder, thanks to you. Mine doesn’t hurt anymore, but you had it way worse and I’m not having that happen again, Soo.” You put a hand on his shoulder. “Listen, if you want to help, protect the village. The kids, the mothers. They don’t have anyone to protect them yet. If anyone were to break through our line, it’ll be good to have someone there. But I don’t want you in the front, okay? You understand where I’m coming from, right?”
Kyungsoo sighs, but nods slowly. “Okay, I’ll stay to protect the people. If that makes you feel better.”
“It does.” You smile, before giving him a little push to his chest. “God, what is going on? This is the most absurd thing ever. We’re all old, and fighting mad pirates off the island. When would you ever have imagined that?”
Kyungsoo giggles, and nods. “Yeah, not how I pictured my future as a kid.”
“Me neither.” You breathe, eyes finding the ceiling with a pout. Many thoughts swim around your head, but one comes out clear and prominent. “What am I supposed to do, Kyungsoo?” You sigh. “How am I supposed to choose between two people I love?”
Kyungsoo doesn’t move for a long while, before laying down on the bed next to you, shoulder to shoulder. He too, stares at the ceiling like it might hold the answer. “I don’t know.” He runs a hand through his dark hair, before taking your hand into his. “I think … you won’t have to choose in the end. You’ll know.”
He turns to his side so he can look at you, staring down at you like you remember doing when you were both kids. “You know, your grandmother, Wendy, was really in love with Baekhyun.” You nod, still able to remember the stories she used to tell you when you were a little child. Kyungsoo smiles softly at the memories. You imagine he must have known her even better than you did. “I was in love with Wendy.” He breathes, catching your eyes hastily.
Your mouth drops open at that, but no coherent thoughts come out. “She was really smart, and funny. Like a newborn that takes in all things they can see with wide, curious eyes. You really look like her sometimes.” There’s a fondness in his voice, a curl to his lips that you’ve never seen on him before. It lights him up. “I think I came to the same valley that you’re in now. I loved her, and she loved him. I didn’t want to break her heart, nor hurt Baekhyun’s. In the end, I realised that I thought of Wendy fondly, but the care I have for my brothers is even greater.
And when Wendy went back home, she grew up and married a man that really loved her, and had two beautiful kids, and those kids had kids. I could have loved her, but I realised that I had to go for what was most important to me and that was those guys out there. Friendship was most important to me. And everything fell into place.” He smiles, and pulls you in for a hug, tucked safely under his chin. “Don’t worry so much. You’ll figure it out and once you do, the other person will fall right into place.”
“Thank you.” You breathe, smiling into the fabric of his shirt.
Kyungsoo pulls back, sitting upright and then helping you up as well. “You’re welcome.”
You get up from the bed and look out the window, swallowing the tight feeling away. You should probably get going like the others to head towards the other side of the island. You glance over at your little brother once more, and bite your lip. “Please don’t get hurt.”
The other nods, before pulling his lips into a heart again. “You too.”
The shore is quiet, seemingly more so than normal and it sends a shiver down your spine. You can see the water level, even from your spot hidden in the treeline. To your right stands Baekhyun, his breathing heavy. You can see his chest heave up and down from the corner of your eye, even when you try to look away.
Baekhyun should be the only person who isn’t too worried, but he is and this makes your nerves spike up too. He must know something that you don’t, must have kept something to himself in order to protect you and this pulls at the corners of your mouth, begging you to glance over.
You swallow, watching the waves crash into the sand, almost flooding the beach entirely. The normally calming sound sits in the back of your mind now, and you glance around for a second. To your left stands one of the fairies that Suho brought, her gaze stern and her bright green eyes focussed on the movement of the water. The fine sword in her hand is steady, controlled.
You look back at Baekhyun, who flashes you an unsure smile when he sees you looking. You don’t buy it. “Baekhyun,” you hiss under your breath, and the man freezes like a deer caught in headlights, “what is it? You don’t get to hide anything from me right now, if I’m gonna be out in the open soon. You know something.” It’s a guess, but by the way his chest seems to fall entirely, you guess it’s a good one.
Baekhyun bites his bottom lip for a moment, before looking over at your face and cursing to himself. He slams his fist into the bark of the tree he’s stood behind, before frowning. “If you see Hook-” he looks over at you with a gaze you’ve never seen him use before, one of pure anger, making his sharp features suddenly dark, “you go the opposite way, okay? I don’t care how much he tries to get to you-- You stay away. Leave him to me.”
“Does that really matter right now?!” You mumble back, unable to understand why he’d care right now. Him, you, Jongin, or anyone else, if they can get him, they should.
“No,” Baekhyun barks though, voice cracking, “you don’t understand! You need to stay away from him.”
“Why?!” You frown at him, but he doesn’t give you an answer and scoots up a few trees to be closer toward the front of the line. What the hell is he on about?! You can feel your ears go pink from anger that he still does this, even after all you’ve gone through.
Suddenly, a warm hand comes to rest on your shoulder, making you turn around and lose your frown. Sehun gives you a look, one you know very well, saying that it’s not worth fighting about. He’s right. Though it drives you nuts that Baekhyun always keeps his feelings and thoughts to himself, he doesn’t do it to hurt other people.
It’s always to protect the people around him and so you decide to believe him. Trust, for one, is something you have in him beyond anything else. You take a deep breath, and swallow your nerves, giving Sehun a tense smile and taking his hand quickly to squeeze it. So many thoughts are racing through your head, it’s hard to make out any individual sentences except for one. You won’t let anyone get hurt.
A soft creak makes your heart flip, not in the good way. Everyone’s eyes flick to the shore, where you can see the giant pirate ship slow to a halt and slam against the rocks violently. A shiver runs down your entire spine, remembering vaguely your time on the ship, and everything that happened because of it. Your fingers tighten around the handle of the sword, that feels warm in your hands.
The ship stays eerily quiet.
And then, as if with a clap of thunder, hands appear. Men, big and gruff crawl out, and jump down the few meters of the deck into the shallow water. You know they don’t see you, not yet anyway. But your nerves morph into a deep worry when they keep coming, spilling out of the ship like a colony of ants, looking around the open space with a cold gaze.
Another pause, and then a familiar face shows up. Hook rolls his head, before jumping down the ship into the water, soaking him up to his knees. Two sharp swords shimmer in his hands, one either side. He comes to break through the line of people smoothly, and then comes to a halt, smiling. Dread fills your body, creeping up. His dark eyes scan the treeline. You know he can’t see you guys, you’re hidden safely behind the shrubs but still it feels as if he looks right through you all. Even from this distance, you see his jaw move and then…
You break.
His eyes, darker than obsidian, pause onto yours from where your head pokes just behind the trunk. He can’t see you. He can’t, but he does. And it brings a nasty smile over his lips, terrifyingly cold and with a blinding hatred spilling out of the seams. The grin stays on, you see his lips move without sound, and suddenly all men start charging forward towards you.
To your left and right people spring into action, coming from your hidden position to go battle then. Your body is frozen, a soundless tape playing in front of your eyes from shock; He saw you, he saw you and you realize that whatever Baekhyun knew, you should have known too. Your eyes blink mindlessly, until the two groups of people reach each other.
And then, hell breaks loose. Baekhyun is first, sword whirling to break through the line of people into a deafening, pounding noise of screams and metal clashing together. Your legs finally move, as if on their own accord.
The mess of people before you swirls into a dark blob of limbs and pain when you reach it, hands shaking without control. Someone charges at you with a loud scream, and you duck with a deep intake of air. His sword misses and whirls past you. You straighten and with a smooth slash his body falls to the ground, blood splashing onto your cheek.
There’s no time to blink or another man is charging at you, eyes wild and lifting his knife above his head to bring it down. Your blade clashes with his right on time, muscles straining to keep away. The man kicks at your leg. You stumble, trying to catch your balance but before you can his sword ripping open your lower arm. A soaring pain surges through your whole body.
You huff and hold in screaming, using your other arm to pull the strength to whirl your sword up, cutting the taller down his throat and chin. He grasps at his neck but tumbles backwards, unable to breathe. Your heart pounds against your ribcage. The noise is still so loud, smell of blood everywhere. You look around, trying to find your friends in the mass.
Blood. Bodies. Everywhere. You don’t see them. Focussing on your shaking arm, you grasp at it, shoving the metal protection plate to the side to see the wound with a strangled scream. Dark blood streams from the wound down your wrist and hand, and you press your other hand to it. Fuck.
When you look up, another person comes at you, making you wobble to the side again. The man overshoots his goal, missing. You turn quick enough to gash open his back, pushing the man to the floor as you drop both knees on him. He wildly tries to get from under your weight, nails clawing in your skin. With a shaky sigh, you stab the sword through his back. He struggles while gasping deeply, but stills.
Pound.
Pound.
Pound.
A male scream. One you recognize.
You turn, vision blurring. Sehun. His sword is above his head, clashing with another. You run towards him, his eyes wild. Before you reach though, you’re smacked into the ground. Your shoulder pounding, and taste of dirt in your mouth. A heavy body keeping yours in place. You turn to him.
The man doesn’t have a sword anymore, but digs his bloodied hand into your sore throat. Your empty lungs heave. You struggle against him, clawing at his hand and trying to reach your sword, that lays on the ground beside you.
Your body viciously jerks underneath him when he tightens his fingers even more. You scream, more like a gurgle. Your eyes shut for a brief second and then the guy murmurs. Your eyes fly open. He drops forward on top of you, dead. As soon as you get air, you take a deep, painful breath, coughing.
A strong hand pulls you up. Sehun’s face, lifting yours and slapping your cheek. “Y/N! Look at me!” His words echo, your heavy eyes finding his. Everything is blurring.
Sehun is ripped away from you, pulled back into another man. He screams, maybe your name, and then another body connects with yours. One of the fairies, his eyes scared and wide as he pushes you to the side and stabs one of the pirates to your side. You stumble back more.
Your arm blazes now, as you look around. There’s more silver armor standing than pirates. Good. You shake, still finding your breath, and look out over the field. Your eyes refuse to focus. Blond hair catches your gaze though. Baekhyun swiftly cleaves through multiple people, fighting towards Jongin, who’s surrounded by people too.
Right when you want to hurry back into the fight, your body stills under a gaze. Time seems to slow down when Yixing catches your eyes, gleaming. It’s as if he’s been waiting for you this entire time, and now he’s found you, stalks towards you like a wolf at a wounded bunny.
Scrambling up, you look around the field. Baekhyun. You need Baekhyun. Your eyes catch Jongin’s for a second before another man cuts off his eyes from you. Yixing stabs his sword into another person’s back, twisting it around inside them, while the person screams with a searing pain and drops to the bloodied grass.
You back away but stumble in the grass, groaning when you land on your wounded arm. Your throat dry, mouth tasting of iron. You lift yourself enough to crawl away on hands and feet, world spinning. You’re losing too much blood. Another step forward, more clashing of swords.
And then a blood-boiling scream fills the battlefield. It’s only seconds after that you realize the sound fell from your mouth. Tear spring in your eyes, warmth dripping down your cheeks as you turn. Your calf in pinned in place by a sword, like a butterfly pinned to the wall. Your bloody fingers wrap around the blade, struggling with sobs to get it out, but the more you try, the more your body starts slipping from your grasp. Your vision is nothing more than a collection of blobs now, but you recognize the dark figure looming over you anyway.
A vicious chuckle, as his foot connects with your back and shoves you down onto the floor, grass and dirt filling your mouth. “I should have known it’d be you.” He murmurs, voice trembling with a raw anger that sounds so pure that it is almost transparent. “Everything was going perfectly, I had them right where I wanted, and then you came and fucked it all up.”
He crouches next to you, and takes hold of some of your hair to pull your face up to his. You glare at him, feeling your eyes droop. “What’s wrong, angel? Is this not how you saw it ending?” Another laugh, though this one sounds totally empty. “No... you knew, right? You figured out what was going on, in the back of your pretty little head. That’s why you took my sword. Pity you didn’t get to use it on me.”
You gather the last of your energy to spit at him. “Drop dead.”
Your face is shoved into the floor, pounding between your ears deafening again. You feel him stand up next to you. “Peter!” He boulders, turning your face towards the fight that you can slowly come to a halt. Though you don’t see it well, you know Baekhyun is looking, judging by how motionless he is.
“Isn’t this such a shame? Sneaky,” he nods, “I have to admit. But sadly for you, I figured it out right when Y/N here did too.” He places his foot on your face again, mud and blood staining your cheek.
“What are you talking about?” You bring out.
“Oh, don’t act all stupid. You know they were aging because of me. A mermaid’s spell to take their youth away and bring back mine. Minseok was my little guinea pig, you see how well it works. Only sad thing is that you need a lot of youth to go back a few years yourself. Not that I didn’t have enough of that here.”
He huffs then, pushing on your skull more. You want to see if Baekhyun is looking, but aren’t able to lift your head enough. “The only thing I didn’t plan was you.”
“Hook.” Baekhyun’s voice like it’s from only a few steps away. “Get your dirty paws of off her.”
“You thought I wouldn’t find out? Putting a spell on your most loved one, how romantic. Only question I have now though, if I kill her, what will happen to you? It’s because of her that you’ve stopped aging, and because of her that I am losing strength every day.”
A deep voice answers from your other side. “I’ll kill you before you can lay a finger to her again.” Jongin. You choke up even more, unable to make out what’s happening.
“It’s going to be okay, Y/N. I promise.” Baekhyun mumbles, his throat catching.
There’s a pause, and then a sharp noise ringing through the silence. The sound of two swords clashing together. Noises of struggle, blurring into a big blob of nothingness when your eyes shut. Your body shakes, a burning pain soaring through you again.
You can’t hear much more when you’re turned on your back, two hands desperately digging into your shirt and hauling you into their hold. You open your eyes another time to see your body, limp as if someone else’s, a strange peacefulness falling. Your breastplate is gone, shirt staining with blood like a paper filling with ink. Hook’s second sword sticks from your belly, stained red.
You don’t feel it anymore. Just the heavy press of breathing on your chest.
A voice shouts, and then brushes some hair out of your face. “Stay with me. Please. Help is coming.” He cries. “Stay with me.”
baekhyun finale jongin finale
Thank you for reading!! This is it. The official end. Well, before you shoot me, there’s going to be an epilogue with either. I know which is my preferred ending, but I decided to give it both endings since I kept going back and forward between both. I’m so happy we’re finally here. Thank you for going through this journey with me, it was a load of fun.
I hope you enjoyed as much as I did. I’ll try to put out the two endings as soon as possible!!
An eventful Monday
The 40th Annual Hunger Games started yesterday morning, a Sunday. Today during class, like every year, we don’t have to watch but I’m dying in curiosity. Ms. Gullard has placed a towel over the hanging television up on the wall corner and has made us write down verbs. She’s also lowered the volume to mute and because the towel is thick enough, I can only see vague shadows on the tv.
Next to me, Wendy sends notes to two of her friends, Cassidy and Orchid. I’m guessing they’re talking about the games and I want to almost ask them but I just know they’ll avoid the question and hurt my feelings. It’s all they’re good at.
During lunch, Efrain and I sit by ourselves as usual and eat. He mentions watching the games but refuses to tell me about it. Says that if I was allowed to watch he’d tell me. Also says that he got a good talking about it.
“Momma gave me a good bitchin’ bout talkin’ bout it at ya house. Said that if I make Ms. Bilmin cry I ain’t gon see the light of day”, he widens his eyes and shakes his head. He stuffs his mouth with peaches from his school lunch.
Since I met Efrain, he hasn’t changed that much except he looks a lot more healthy now. I guess his daddy working at Mr. Kwan’s stables brings in good money and puts food on the table. He’s still thin, but doesn’t look as bony as he used to.
He’s a little bit darker than I am and his hair is curlier than mines. My curls are big and wavy, his are small and abundant sitting at the top of his head. He says his oldest brother Eduardo cuts his hair. Trims the back and sides and leaves it longer at the top. I really like it and sometimes wish I could cut my hair too. Mines is so long sometimes I sit on it.
After school, we go to my house and eat what momma Bilmin has made for us. It’s vegetable and egg fried rice with cooked slices of pork ham. Because Efrain is here, she’s not crying as much as she normally does around this time of year, still her eyes are red and her nose is pink.
Momma Bilmin is so pretty. She ain’t as wrinkly as all the other old people. Her graying hair is long and straight and she’s thin, always wearing pretty yellow dresses. I love the color yellow, it’s the color of sunshine and sunflowers. The color makes me feel happy and warm, just like the sun. She fills our glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice and reminds us to do our homework after we’re done eating.
“That’s a pretty ring, Ms. Bilmin”, Efrain says to her.
On her right hand, on her middle finger she has a gold ring of a horse shoe with small stones on it, inside of it is a horse on its side. She told me it used to be uncle Amos’s but it’s hers now. Momma Bilmin smiles and puckers her lips. Her eyes get watery and she stares at me giving me a painful smile. Without a word, she takes a deep breath and walks out the room. We can hear he sandals make noise as she walks away.
“What did I say?”, Efrain asks me.
“Momma tends to be fragile around this time of year”, I inform him.
While we do our homework outside, sitting under a small tent daddy made for me when I was younger, Efrain tries to call Brownie over to him. She ignores him but her calf, now full grown, runs to us like a big happy dog.
“Daddy made this tent for me so I could spend time outside with him while he worked on the ranch”, I say picking lint off a corner. He pets the cow and it runs off.
“Ya daddy so strict and scary”, Efrain admits.
“No doubt, but I can tell he loves me cause he always wanna spend time together”, I add, “he always wants me to work outside with him, or go to places with him and on the lazy days, he likes to sit in the livin’ room while I read books. He snores really loud and it’s hard to concentrate but I enjoy his company too”.
“My daddy is always workin’, momma‘s sick so she stays home. My big brother Eduardo is always workin’ too, he brings home tessera every now and then”, Efrain says.
“What’s that like?”, I ask wondering what tessera is.
“Well it gets lonely cause it’s usually Felix and me but he acts like he’s too old and cool to hang out”, Efrain says closing his science book.
I don’t correct him and accept the answer. Soon the conversation changes to what he does for fun, which is pretty much what Ignacio said on our birthday. He plays outside with the neighborhood kids but cause it’s hunger games month he watches the games. This calls for my curiosity again.
“What are the games like this year?”, I whisper. I know that every year the games are different and set in different arenas. In fact, one time, on tv I saw that one of the arenas was all tall grasslands and a couple of trees. Everyone was stuck sneaking around.
“It’s swampy”, he says. “A lot of scary animals. So far a boy ran into a body of water and got eaten by a big lizard”, he widens his eyes and nods. This scares me.
“Ain’t the games start yesterday?”, I ask. I’d expect for them to just roam around the place at random and only be killed off by other tributes, I didn’t know that the arena was meant to kill you too.
“That don’t matter in the games. Anything’ can kill you, be it another tribute, the arena or even yourself. Everyone usually just tries to survive the careers though”, he says packing his book in his backpack. He’s done with his homework but I still have a lot of verbs to come up with for mines.
Our conversations change a lot, we go from talking about the games to all the weird animals we’ve seen here in 10. So far I win cause I’ve seen an actual coyote pack but he was pretty close with the feral chickens. After that, we talk about the animal we wish we were, he says he wishes he was one of our cows cause they look like they have it good. We laugh at this. I’m not sure what animal I wish I was, but right now, I think it would be cool to be a bird so I could fly.
“More like a wild chicken”, he jokes and makes a chicken call. This riles up the chickens in the coop and we laugh harder than before.
When his daddy comes to pick him up, mines tells me to go change and that I’ll be going to Efrain’s for a bit while he and Mr. Oxoro go do some errands. In my room, while I put on my shoes, daddy comes in and sits next to me on the bed.
“I know they watch the games at your friends house. I’m allowin’ you to watch them, but when you come back, there will be absolutely no talk about you saw, you understand me?”, he looks at me and points firmly. I nod in agreement. This excites me more than going to Bloques, but I keep the emotion to myself.
We follow Mr. Oxoro’s raggedy car in our wagon and soon, we enter Bloques. I’m not sure what it was that I expected, but it was nothing like this.
The streets are dirty and there’s trash on the corner of roads. It smells like pee and I’m sure the stains on building walls are exactly that. The houses are small squares and made of cement but some have been painted and given personality by their owners. Other houses look like mines but they’re half the size. Some people sit outside theirs and stare at us, kids playing around stop to look at our horses in awe. I see some point at them, others point at us.
“I ain’t ever seen so many houses in one spot”, I say to daddy.
“You see that red, run down house over there”, daddy points. The house looks empty and in shambles. It’s roof is caved in and the door is leaning off it’s hinge. Whoever used to live there must of had nothing if they couldn’t even fix it up.
“That’s where I used to live when I was around ya age”, he says ignoring all the people watching us. I imagine patting myself on the back for not thinking out loud.
After so many turns on so many neighborhoods and so many looks from so many people, some who I think I’ve seen at the Plaza on reapings, we finally arrive to Efrain’s. He lives in a very big gross looking building daddy calls an apartment complex. Our daddies don’t go in with us, they just wave us off and leave on the wagon without saying where they’re headed.
“We have six floors and guess what floor I live in”, Efrain says with an attitude tryna skip steps up the stairs.
“I almost don’t wanna go home no more”, I admit thinking about having to walk all the way down when we finally reach his floor’s hallway.
He laughs and knocks on the first door we reach and tells me we have to wait a little. Through the walls I can hear a baby crying and some loud music playing. Efrain says that’s his neighbors. I’m not used to the ruckus but in a way, I’m having fun just standing here.
When the door opens, a tall teenager opens the door and stares at us funny. He looks like Efrain but older. He’s skinny and just as dark, same haircut and everything except his clothes fit better.
“Where’s dad?”, he says looking at me funny.
“He and Mr. Wyetka went on an errand, this is Isa”, Efrain pats my shoulder. “Isa this is my brother Felix but we call him Fee. Can Isa call you Fee too?”, Efrain asks. Felix smiles and tilts his head swiftly inviting us into their home.
Unlike mines, his living room, dinning room and kitchen are all connected. Down a small hallways are three doors. Efrain tells me the door down the hall is the restroom in case I need it and we sit on an old green patchy, two seater sofa. Their tv ain’t flat or on the wall, it’s fat and huge and sits on a table decorated with little glass tea cups with pretty flowers drawn on them.
To our right is a big open window that leads to the fire escape, says Efrain. Here, his brother steps out and closes the window. He smiles at someone and then they peak their head to look and laugh too. It’s a blonde haired boy I’ve never seen, another teen. In his hand, he has a small stick that he lights with a lighter and sucks. I watch them smoke for a minute before Efrain points it out.
“They smoke that every day”, Efrain rolls his eyes and changes the channel where previously Dan McGee, 10’s news reporter, was talking in front a meat factory. He switches the channel to the games and looks at me with a mischievous smile.
“Daddy says it’s ok to watch, but I can’t talk about it back home”, I inform him. He nods and raises the volume up to the number twelve.
For the first twenty minutes all they show is a bunch of tributes minding their business. The careers, Efrain says they volunteer to be there and train for the “honor”, he quotes his fingers making a silly face, hang at the cornucopia talking to each other. Apparently they spotted someone and are gonna go hunt them down. This makes me feel nervous. Other tributes are shown sneaking around the swampy, muddy arena or climbing tall trees, hiding. Because nothing interesting is happening they replay the bloodbath. I am not emotionally prepared for what I’m about to see because when I do, I get so scared I start to cry.
The cannon blows and everyone runs towards the cornucopia, a boy is followed by the camera, he picks up knives and just as he does, a spear is thrown right at his stomach. This makes me jump. Efrain laughs and says “that must of hurt”. My stomach churns when I see one of the so called careers stab another boy mercilessly. The boy spits blood with every breath and weakly tries to push the career off but he dies before reaching the strength. I can’t help it. This is so scary I start crying immediately.
“What’s wrong Isa?”, Efrain asks scooting closer to me. He puts his arm around my shoulder. I look out the window and spot Felix giving him a thumbs up, one he retracts and sucks in his lips before he and his friend hide attempting to not be seen.
“They’re just killin’ one another like life ain’t mean anythin’”, I say, “like who they used to be never mattered and never will cause they gone. Just a memory to their loved ones. Momma Bilmin has a right to cry. This is horrible”.
“I never thought of it that way”, Efrain says guiltily taking his arm off of me. “Wanna do some else?”, he asks but suddenly jumps up with excitement, “wanna meet my momma? She’s been wantin’ to meet you, c’mon”, he takes my hand and pulls me into the hallway. We enter to the room on the left.
In here, the room is clean and white, colorless and almost empty. All that’s in here is a bed and a dresser. Above the bed is a big picture of her and Mr. Oxoro on their wedding day. She looks pregnant.
It smells like dampness and sickness. A scent I can’t specifically describe. At first, her eyes are closed but she turns her head to see us come in and coughs in a handkerchief. She looks like she’d be very pretty and on the picture above, she is. She’s light skinned and really pale, her lips are almost white and her hair is light blonde. It almost feels like she’s a random lady in their home because Efrain and Felix look nothing like her. They look like his daddy, who’s shorter than her, chubby and dark skinned. He has puffy hair like Olive.
She smiles at me. Efrain pushes me towards her and puts his hand on her arm.
“Momma, this Isa”, he says excitedly.
“Hello, Isa”, she says tiredly with a smile. I smile back. “Efrain’s told me a lot bout you”, she says.
“Momma”, Efrain snaps with his eyes wide open and turns to look at me with an awkward laugh. He scratches the back of his head.
“I’m sleepy baby”, she says to him before he gives her a hug and invites me to leave the room.
When we step out, he runs to the window his brother and friend are at and knocks. With his thumb he points back at me and Felix nods giving him a peace sign. Efrain takes my hand and we head down to the street.
“Where we goin’?”, I ask out of breath.
“I think everyone should be outside right now”, Efrain says skipping steps, going down faster than I.
“What you talkin’ bout?”, I scream at him but he doesn’t answer and leaves me behind.
When I run out the door after him, he’s waving at a bunch of kids playing with a deflated ball. Without skipping a beat, some run up to us. Others spot me and look at each other. They don’t bother to come.
“Why you with her?”, Edwin asks. He’s tanned with shaggy light brown hair. Skinny like most and wears clothes just as big as Efrain’s. He’s sweaty and looks mad that I’m here.
“Isa’s my friend”, Efrain snaps. “Besides, ain’t we been needin’ an extra player for Wendy’s team?”, he points at Wendy who too makes a stink face and nods. She crosses her arms and looks at me.
“She can be on your team, Edwin can join me”, she says.
“No way, she’s a girl, she’s gonna be in yours”, Edwin snaps back.
“Then I’m not playin’”, she says.
“Fine, Isa can take over for ya”, Efrain snaps at her. I stand next to him feeling bad about no one wanting to play with me, but Efrain standing up as my friend makes me feel better.
“Oh c’mon it’s just for today”, another girl says. She has loose and messy pigtails, whatever she ate has stuck to her cheeks and it looks sticky. Her clothes are stained in red and her knee caps are scabbed from having fallen recently. “I’m Wigma”, she says, “I’m the oldest one here cause I’m eleven”. I give her a shy smile.
After some back and forth, Wendy rolls her eyes and accepts me on her team. She doesn’t talk to me at all for the first thirty minutes but after I successfully kick the ball into the middle between two trashcans, where we make a goal, she smiles at me for the first time ever. By the time the game ends, Wigma scores by kicking the deflated ball at a trashcan making it fall back. The boys refuse to accept that as a score and refuse to claim we won, instead they call it a tie. Laughing at them for being in denial, Wendy smiles at me, sweaty and out of breath and high fives me.
One by one, everyone starts to leave. Wigma hugs me goodbye and Wendy just waves. Edwin avoid contact with me and a boy named Lucas just gives me a half smile. Efrain and I stay outside until the sun starts to set, we climb a fence and run around pretending we’re foxes running after feral chickens, whom I learn from they shouldn’t be trifled with.
By the time our daddies get home, they find us running back to them and jumping on top of the wagon with an angered chicken tryna fly and peck at our heads. They smell like alcohol and Mr. Oxoro laughs so hard he falls off the wagon. Daddy laughs and hiccups a burp before he asks Mr. Oxoro if he’s ok.
Waving goodbye to Efrain and Wigma who I spot looking outside the window on the second floor of the apartments, I turn to look at daddy with a big smile.
“You had fun too, daddy?”, I say listening to him chuckle to himself.
“Yep, and I see you did too”, he says pulling me closer, under his sweaty armpits, and hugs me tightly.
“Uh-hu! I did! We watched the games but it was too scary”, I admit, “I never want to watch something so horrible again!”, I snap. Not to him but at myself. I’m upset that I’ve saddened momma Bilmin so many times for wanting to watch. I understand why I’m not allowed and won’t ever ask anymore questions again. I’ve had enough!
“Why do the games exist?”, I ask daddy.
“Cause!”, daddy sings, “how else is the government gonna control us? How else can they remind us that we have no power and mean nothin’? By takin’ our children and forcin’ us to watch them kill each other, that’s how!”, he chuckles and nods. “That’s why I work my ass off! So you never have to be part of that”, he says and kisses my forehead.
“Crud”, he burps. “I think we’re lost”.
I would call this one: The Fairy Odd Curse
Ok OMG, I want a crack fic where it’s Voldemort who dies and wakes up to like a messed up fairy tale world. And like he’s the prince to Harry’s princess. So his hell is pretty much having to save Harry over and bloody over again. Sometimes he gets magic sometimes he doesn’t.
It’s great because he’s fucking Voldemort so obviously he didn’t read a lot of fairy tales as a kid and therefore has to stumble through most of them blindly. (BTW THIS COULD BE A SNARRY TOO *hint hint*)
Once upon a time, there were two souls connected by fate. An unfortunate connection really. One that could only end with the death of the other. But as a rather barmy old wizard once said, death is just the next great adventure.
Lord Voldemort wakes up in a field. It’s a very nice field all things considered. Soft green grass, daisies, the smell of fresh mildew. The Dark Lord blinks. Huh.
There was a lot of places he was sure he would go, but he was fairly positive heaven was not one of them.
He lifts himself up from where he had been lying and he realizes with a start that these were not the clothes he had been wearing in his death. They were certainly not the sort of clothes he would have wished to wear in the afterlife either, or any life really. Poofy sleeves, and gauche colors lines with gold. He looked like one of those outdated cartoon pictures of a prince.
Tentatively he mapped out his face with his hands, his normal skin colored healthy looking hands. He sighs a little in relief. Fuck, if there was one thing he had really regretted as Voldemort, it was that extra step that made him lose his nose in the process. And also his looks but he wasn’t that vain. It was just... nose.
Voldemort stares quietly at the rolling green hills, his body come to think of it, isn’t the only thing that’s reverted back to its prime. His mind too feels… clearer. Sharper.
Sane.
“Your highness!”
….What?
So the first story is Harry Potter and the Seven Weasleys. Lucius is the wicked stepmother and yes, Harry is fucking Snow White. Skin as white as snow, hair as black as coal and eyes as green as a killing curse.
“No.” Voldemort backed away from the sleeping young man. He looked at the hopeful and worried expressions of seven redheads with freckled faces. “No.” He repeated firmly. Some of the tiny Weasleys began sobbing. As if he cared about these blood traitors’ piddly arse feelings.
“Oy, you gotta your highness.” The youngest boy scowls, “Only true love’s kiss can save Harry now.”
“NO.”
He totally ends up kissing Harry. It’s super reluctant. As is the feelings that tingled in his chest when he does so. Harry opens his eyes and smiles, clearly doesn’t recognize who Voldemort/Riddle is. Voldemort gets kissed by Harry, he doesn’t know why he allows it. He brings Harry back to his kingdom but the moment he steps into the castle grounds the world shifts again and he ends up in another fairytale universe. Rinse and repeat.
EXAMPLES
- The Little Mermaid. Harry’s the little mermaid, Barty Crouch is the evil octopus one since like Polyjuice and such similarities, Flounder is Ron, Sebastian is Hermione cause Sebastian fucking has common sense. Dumbledore would be King Triton.
Prince Tom grits his teeth as this so-called Hariel fails to even understand the simple concept of a fork. He lives under the sea, not under a rock, the idea of spearing something down in a hunt should be something the younger man should be familiar enough with. How in Merlin would they be able to eat otherwise?
Even worse, he’s mute for some reason. Fuck. How does this story end again, for the life of the prince he just could not remember.
- Beauty and the beast- self-explanatory right? All of the talking furniture are Death Eaters. Though omg Lucius would be the candlestick and Severus would be Cogsworth and they all are pretty scared of him because Voldemort can do crucio and other spells. Voldemort at that time was pissed because he realized this cycle was probably not going to end anytime soon. LOCKHART IS GASTON.
“Aren’t you supposed to be interested in the library?” The Beast hisses grumpily. He hates this story. He hates it all the more because apparently, the world has seen fit to give him his previous snake-like appearance rather than go classic. His nose is gone again. Fuck, he hates everything.
Harry stares at the man incredulously, “Your brooms can fly.” He says slowly like Beast was the idiot. If The Beast wasn’t so fearful of the consequences, he would kill Potter right then and there. “Why would I immerse myself in books when I could bloody fly?!”
- Alice in Wonderland, with Tom being Alice, Walburga Black as the Queen of Hearts, Harry being the Mad Hatter or the White Rabbit. I don’t know I don’t remember how this movie went. But I know Tom would be infuriated.
- Peter Pan, but this time Harry is Peter, Ginny is Tinkerbell and Tom is Wendy. Wendy’s brothers can be Lucius and Malfoy I guess, I don’t know, maybe Tom just ditches the brothers. Snape is Captain Hook.
“Want to check out the mermaids?” Potter Pan asks with a friendly smile.
Tom shudders. “No.” He answers firmly. “No more mermaids for at least five more lifetimes.”
Potter Pan quirks a confused but bemused grin, “You’re strange. I like that.”
“Oh.. joy.”
- Mary Poppins where Harry is Harry Pottins. Tom would be the single father of Lucius and Snape. Tom tries to avoid Harry this time but ends up being sucked in to their misadventures despite himself. He also gets insanely annoyed at Sirius the chimney sweep for some reason.
- Enchanted. The prince is Lucius, Harry’s romantic but cynical best friend is Narcissa. Tom’s just grumpy at this point but fairly resigned. Doesn’t even care that he’s a muggle in this one.
- Harry is Rapunzel (Harunzel) and Dumbledore is Mother Gothel and it’s the Tangled version where the horse is Draco Malfoy and the chameleon is Ron. It’s the most Harry-esque character so far so Tom feels a little more heartened.
And then one day, as he makes his way again to save Harry from a tower for what felt like the hundredth time, Harry pops his head out of the open window, looks at him confusedly and says, “Riddle? What the fuck. Is this hell? It feels like hell.” And Tom almost cries because finally Harry has died and he’s no longer alone in this cruel and unusual torture.
+ Hercules
“Huh,” Tomcules mused as he looked at the monster he had defeated in a single hit. “I think I’m warming up to this one.”
“You would.” Megarry rolled his eyes before muttering under his breath, “At least everyone here is wearing a dress, not just me.”
+ Pocahontas
“You look…”
“What?” Harrihontas demanded, “Come on, say it, I know I certainly feel racist just looking at me.”
Captain Tom Smith shook his head, “Not that, it’s just,” He hesitated, “I forgot how well suited tanned skin looks on you.”
Harrihontas blinks, green eyes, it’s always green eyes, bright as the killing curse, light up in surprise. “Oh, thanks.”
They shuffle a bit, a little awkward before Hermione the hummingbird chirps impatiently. The green-eyed native of this unknown land claps his hands and grins as he grabs Tom’s arm, pulling him somewhere, “Well, I say we know each other well enough, now why don’t I show you the colors of the wind?”
+ The Nightmare before Christmas
“Okay, THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE MOST INAPPROPRIATE ONE EVER,” Harry screamed.
“Calm the fuck down Potter,” Tom tells him calmly as he watches the citizens of Halloween town sing the Halloween song. He’s not going to admit it out loud, lest Harry murder him or stuff someone else’s eyeballs into his empty sockets, but this world was rather fascinating. Plus, he was the best dressed he’s been in a long while. “You’ll tear out those pretty stitches of yours.”
+ Mulan
Where Tom is Chang, Harry is essentially Mulan except obviously the whole crossdressing thing isn’t happening. But, let’s be honest, everything would’ve pretty much happened regardless if Mulan got found out about her gender in the movie so whatever.
“Now this is fun!” Huran whooped as he kicked a hun off the tower.
Tang grunted as he sliced open another enemy, this was admittedly incredibly therapeutic. If only Dumbledore wasn’t the emperor though.
+ Aladdin is Tom, Jasmine is Harry, Hedwig is the fucking tiger, Snape is Jafar, Fudge is the Sultan and the twins are the Genies of the lamp. Because seeing Tom interact with the twins would probs be gold.
THEN THERE ARE MARVEL MOVIES WHICH ARE TECHNICALLY DISNEY
+ Iron Man
“How the fuck is this Disney?!” Tommy Riddle snarled as Harry stuck his hand into the hole in his chest.
Harry shuddered, the unforgiving metal and wires around his limb were warm, “Maybe they bought out another film company? You know, one about... uh... I’m sorry, am I doing this right?”
The billionaire waved his hand irritatedly, “You’re doing fine Potts, I, the man who just spent a decent time being tortured by terrorists, am not.” Tom slung his arm over his face. Harry would say he’s being dramatic again but he is sticking his fist into the guy’s chest so. “I cannot believe I’m missing those out of the blue musical numbers right now.”
“I did like the magic carpet ride.” Harry mused thoughtfully. Tom just groaned.
“I just, can’t we have one where we’re wizards again? One. Just one. I’ve given up on being a dark lord, hell, I think muggles are fairly alright now! Just let me be a wizard again.”
Harry pats the older man sympathetically, with the hand not in his chest, of course, that would’ve been weird otherwise. “Hey,” He says reassuringly, “We were in the Chinese army, I was once apparently a mermaid and you had a mansion filled with people we knew in the form of talking furniture. I’m sure we’ll eventually be wizards again.”
“Let’s bloody hope so.”
+ Stephan Strange
“Hey, you’re going to learn magic again.” Harry tries.
“THIS WASN’T WHAT I HAD IN MIND.” Dr. Riddle snarls as his hands shook harder than an earth tremor with a 9.5 magnitude. “FUCK. MY HANDS.”
So by then, Tom’s already like, half in love with Harry because of his previous princesses selves’ bravery and loyalty and surprising cunning but having the real Harry by his side is what eventually really seals the deal with him.
And so they do more Disney and even not so Disney adventures where sometimes they’ll play along or go out of their way to screw the whole movie over (mainly Tom who likes when Harry complains about ruining what little childhood he had left) until they both realise they’re stupidly in love with each other, confess it, kiss and break the curse. Cuz like, true love, bitch.
“We’re free, we’re finally free,” Tom says bewilderedly. They’re in the Forbidden Forest, he knows this. It haunts his dreams as well as his nightmares enough times. But that doesn’t matter as he watches Harry throw his head back and laugh freely, none of that tinkling bell sounds either, a proper young man’s laugh. Low and throaty and gorgeous.
The former Dark Lord, hero, prince, ogre, prince again and a hundred times more plus a billionaire playboy philanthropist and even the Sorcerer Supreme, felt himself smiling. His smile widens as Harry catches his expression and returns it toothily.
“It’s about bloody goddamn time,” Harry agrees, “What now Tom? Or is it Voldemort again?”
Tom waved off the last bit, “Just Tom, I think I’ve had enough fancy names to last a lifetime or thirty.” If anything, the younger man’s expression brightened at that, pleased at the answer.
“Okay Tom, what’s next for us?”
“Oh Harry, you idiot. Don’t you read fairytales?” The former Boy Who Lived, damsel in distress, princess, secretary, doctor and more, opened his mouth in protest. Unfortunately, or fortunately, nothing came out as Tom Marvolo Riddle leans in and kisses Harry James Potter. It’s not too steamy, not too chaste, something just right. A kiss fit for a princess you could say.
“Now,” Tom smiled against the kiss, “We have our happily ever after.”
Harry laughed delightedly again.
Once upon a time, there were two souls connected by fate. Separated by death. And resurrected by love. This is their story.
Gravity Soul chapter 11: Escape to Death City, Home of the DWMA? (originally posted on October 28, 2018)
AN: Hello again ladies, gentlemen and every other rainbow in-between, welcome back to Gravity Soul! Last chapter our heroes were forced to flee after losing to Kishin Cipher, and their chosen hiding spot? None other than DEATH CITY! New bonds are built and our heroes decide to get stronger in order to properly take the monstrosity on. Some of these I've been wanting to tackle for a while ever since I even started conceptualizing so I hope you'll love them as much as I do.
All was quiet in Death City, Nevada. The 1800s-esque cobblestone streets were empty for mere moments until a green portal decorated with various arithmetic symbols shined into view and out of it came the Mystery Meisters, now fresh off their departure from Gravity Falls. "So this is Death City!" Ford declared in amazement. "Have to say, really admire the rustic feel of it."
As the crew gazed around the city with wonder, Dipper on the other hand was more mindful of the suddenly anthropomorphic sun, which sported a wide smile emitting a booming laugh. "Hey, I got a question!" he exclaimed. "Why is the sun suddenly alive here yet normal in Gravity Falls? Is it some kind of magic or something?"
"It's best that you not think about it." Death the Kid stated before he looked onward. "Let's get going everybody, the Academy shouldn't be faraway." He led everybody else through the streets of Death's turf, giving them a tour of it along the way.
"Whoa, everything looks so creepy!" Mabel exclaimed gazing through a shop window. "Makes me wish we brought some cameras to take pictures of the place." Wendy added joining her in staring through the window. "Lord Death's face is everywhere. I know he owns the place, but I feel like this is too much." Dipper stated before his eyes wandered to find a nearby ice cream shop. "And is that some kinda parody of Baskin-Robbins?"
"Here it is, our faithful school!" Maka declared after some more sightseeing gesturing towards the school itself high above the rest of the city with flights of white stairs below. It looked more like a macabre funhouse once again with Death's face with red spire roofs, candles jutting out of the building and a group of three skulls anointing the entrance. And above the school was a group of three black orbs mysteriously floating in the air.
"Talk about some bizarre architecture dude! This is definitely going up on my list of inspirations for my dream house!" Soos remarked pulling out a piece of paper with some crude drawings of buildings on it. "It's gonna have a water slide, a bouncy house for an elevator, and trees that can turn into giant super fighting robots!"
"So do we have to climb all these steps?" Pacifica wondered putting a foot on the first stair. "Yeah pretty much." Patty said just as she immediately bolted for the entrance. "RACE Y'ALL!"
"Patty, this is no time for games!" Maka exclaimed racing after her. "We still need to talk with Death and get his help in stopping Kishin Cipher!"
"We literally just got back from nearly dying Maka, can you lighten up a bit?" Black Star said zooming up the stairs. "How can I lighten up when I just-"
"Lost Soul, we know." Tsubaki interrupted her. "We all miss him too but I don't think that's a very healthy way to express your feelings." she stated. "Speaking of losing someone, where's Mr. Pines?"
"How much longer Soos?" Ford moaned as he, Soos and Pacifica became tuckered out from climbing the stairs. "I think we're still in the tens Mr. Pines." the manchild answered. "Well by the time we join the others, I'm going to punch whoever constructed this place. After I throw up."
The hallways of the Death Weapon Meister Academy proved themselves to be very grandiose. As far as the Mystery Meisters could see, they were surrounded by fancy corridors with arched ceilings that almost seemed like a maze.
"Wow, this place is so fancy!" Mabel exclaimed in awe. "And these must be all your classmates too!" She began waving to everyone that passed by until she unexpectedly bumped into a strange blue man. "Oh sorry mister! Didn't mean to run into you like that."
"It's fine missy." the man answered turning to meet the Pines twins, revealing his pupil-less eyes and piglike snout. "Say, aren't you those kids Death was talking to a while ago?" he asked. "Oh my gosh, it's a zombie!" Dipper exclaimed. "Quick, did we pack any formaldehyde and cinnamon in case we run into situations like this?!"
"Hey calm down guys, he won't eat your brains!" Black Star calmed them down. "Speaking of which, we'd like you to meet Sid Barrett. He helps out Lord Death round these parts and is also my dad." he introduced the zombie. "Wait, he's your father? Guess your mom must be some kind of necrophile!" McGucket remarked, which earned him a smack on the head. "Okay I'm sorry! Maybe she's a necromancer instead!"
"Actually, I'm his adoptive dad." Sid answered. "His real dad was a maniac who had to be put down." he added. "I would later raise the kid as my own until I died and came back to life. I couldn't bring myself to kill a baby, cause that's the kind of man I was."
"Y'know, I actually was a zombie once!" Soos remarked. "But I'm not sure if I looked anything like you sir." he stated. "Thanks for your observation, but this is no time for chit-chat. Shinigami said he wants to see you." Sid declared. "Especially the kids."
"Thank you very much Sid, we'll make a note of that." Kid stated before starting to move again. "Come along everyone, his room should be close." he said leading the others away.
Many steps through the labyrinthian halls later, a strange door with a skull face at the top stood before them. "This should be the place." Stein announced beginning to open the door. "Now right this way."
Within moments, the denizens of Gravity Falls found themselves underneath a series of guillotines lined up like a tunnel. "Are any of these going to chop off our heads?" Dipper wondered fearfully gazing up at the tunnel's ceiling. "No it won't you guys, you just still need some adjusting to things!" Spirit claimed. "Now come on, Death shouldn't be kept waiting."
A strange looking room greeted them at the end of the guillotines. The walls almost looked like the sky and a large platform where Death's mirror was situated was surrounded with many crosses planted into the ground that resembled a desert. "Hello, Lord Death? It's us, the Pines family!" Dipper called, but he received no answer. "Where is he anyway? Sid said he should be here to greet us."
"Salutations kiddos!" Lord Death loudly greeted them suddenly appearing on the mirror, shocking them all. "Oh I am terribly sorry, please forgive me for startling you." he apologized exiting the mirror to see them all face to face. "No, we should apologize for being so impatient!" Dipper exclaimed dropping to his hands & knees and bowing his head. "And also failing to stop Asura & Bill."
"Greetings Death, it is a pleasure to meet you face to face." Ford greeted the Shinigami with a respectful bow. "It's good to meet you too Stanford." Death gingerly greeted back before his tone became solemn. "And I am also terribly sorry about what happened to your brother."
"Hey there man!" Wendy casually greeted Death much to Maka's displeasure. "Shouldn't you be more respectful?" she chided the cashier. "What, you mean like this?" Wendy asked before she bowed as well. "Yeah, that's good enough."
"And I assume these must be your friends as well!" Death exclaimed. "So let me get this straight. This place is run by the literal Grim Reaper itself?!" Pacifica gasped in shock. "Why yes indeed young lady." the Death God answered before making his voice deeper and more menacing. "And I should be expecting your soul very soon."
The blonde girl trembled in her boots before Death chuckled in his regular voice. "Just kidding miss!" he assured her with a pat on her head, making her shiver. "So what is this place anyway? I know it's some kinda school but what's it for?" Gideon wondered. "That is a very good question little one!" Lord Death answered before clearing his throat. "Allow me to explain."
"Welcome to the Death Weapon Meister Academy, also known as the DWMA or Shibusen." he began expositing in an announcer's voice. "It stands as a defense against the forces of evil, which would plunge the world into darkness & drag humanity to the very depths of fear and madness, the demons known as Kishin and their insatiable hunger for destruction."
"To ensure the Kishin never regained their hold on this world, this academy was founded by the Grim Reaper, Death himself!" He then switched back to his normal voice. "So basically, we're an organization that exists to protect & preserve peace!" Death exclaimed. "I guess it's not exactly a typical school. Oh well, that isn't important!" he said forming his hands out of his cloak, clasping them together and pointing at the Mystery Meisters. "For now, let's roll up our sleeves and get to work!"
"Work on what sir?" Soos asked as the speech ended. "Why, getting you all ready to face Kishin Cipher! That's why I plan on temporarily enrolling you all at my academy." Death announced to the shock of the party. "We're actually going to become students here?! That sound awesome!" Mabel exclaimed hopping up and down but Wendy only groaned. "Aw man, I seriously wanted to get away from school. Well, at least this place will be less boring."
"Which reminds me, you should all be assigned students to room with." Lord Death said pulling out a tall stack of paperwork and examining it with a pair of glasses. "Let's see, the Pines shall share Maka's apartment. Ms. Corduroy & Mr. Ramirez shall sleep with Black Star & Tsubaki and finally Mr. Gleeful, Ms. Northwest and Mr. McGucket shall move in with my son."
"Uh how did you get our names? We didn't even introduce ourselves yet!" Dipper wondered. "That's also unimportant. Now go along and retreat to your assigned living spaces." Death answered. "I'll see you all soon for your first classes!" With that, the Death God vanished back into his mirror leaving his platform empty.
"Guess that's his way of saying we should get moving." Stein stated with a puff of his cigarette. "I'll see you later. Gonna need to take care of some business." He began leaving the Death Room as the party began going their separate ways. "I'll have you know I live in a very fine & symmetrical mansion." Kid warned Pacifica, Gideon & McGucket. "So if any of you dare disrupt that symmetry, there will be serious consequences."
"I hope you can make yourselves comfortable at our place you two." Tsubaki said to Soos & Wendy. "I can only assume you have some sorta Japanese aesthetic goin' on?" the rotund ex-handyman asked. "I'm asking because y'know, you're both ninjas."
"I wonder if your place is large enough to hold two young girls, two boys, a cat lady, a pig, a sword and an old man like myself." Ford mused preparing to leave as well. "Just make yourselves at home while I take care of my own business." Maka muttered before Spirit suddenly appeared behind her. "Have fun with your new roommates sweetie! And if Dipper tries to make a move on-" Without another word, Maka chopped her father in the face.
"You know what, you can go on ahead kids. I'd still like to speak with Death about Bill." Ford suggested. "Okay, see you soon Ford!" Dipper exclaimed as the children finally exited the Death Room, leaving the scientist alone with the Shinigami, who popped out of his mirror to speak. "Is there any thoughts you want to share with me Mr. Pines? I'm all ears!"
"It's about Bill Cipher sir. You claimed you faced him hundreds of years ago, but how did he manage to find you?" Ford asked as the two of them sat down to some tea. "You almost seem bound to this place, so there's no way you could've gone outside of it to meet him."
"It was actually eight centuries ago when I had first come to blows with Bill." Death explained sipping his tea. "He had actually originally appeared to me, claiming that if we struck a deal, he could help me purge the world of all evils forever and ever. But of course, that was all a lie."
"You did what?!" Ford exclaimed in terror, spitting out his tea. "Sincere apologies for startling you Stanford. I suppose you may have dealt with Cipher as well." Lord Death contemplated. "Indeed I have Shinigami," the six-fingered great uncle confirmed. "for similar reasons as you. He called himself a muse that said I was one of many brilliant minds I chose each century to assist. But obviously, he used me for his own plans as well."
"And according to you, he has returned and fused with Asura as well." Death continued on. "Oh yeah speaking of which, when we left Gravity Falls I heard Asura call your son his 'pesky little brother.' What did he mean by that?" Ford asked again, this time the question made Death nervous before he finally accepted what has now happened. "I've been keeping this secret for ages now, in which only a very small few know it as well, but it's finally time I admitted it." he sighed. "Asura is actually my son."
"My God, it cannot be." Ford gasped. "Though I guessed there may have been some form of connection between him and Kid beforehand, especially due to the similar stripes in their hair, but I never guessed they would be your actual children." he stated. "And another thing, if you're their father then who's the mother?"
"I actually never married. Asura & Kid are just chunks of myself I pulled out and made their own beings. Asura represented my fear while I just wanted a free-roaming Death God which resulted in Kid." Death continued on. "I worry that if I reveal this to him, he wouldn't trust me anymore since I'm basically the father of the ultimate evil. And as for Asura, while I detest him for what he's done in the past, I'm also concerned for what Bill could do to him since he's a completely insane monster."
"I see." Ford commented looking up at one of the windows in Death's room, noticing that the sky was turning red. "I hate to run sir, but the kids should be expecting me to return soon." he stated preparing to return to his great-nephew & niece. "But I promise that your secret is safe with me."
"Good on you Ford. The only others that know it are Sid, my Death Scythes, Excalibur and a few others associates of mine." Death said as Ford finally left. "But I feel the secret won't be kept between us all for long."
"I'm back everyone!" Ford announced stepping into Maka's apartment. "It took me a while to actually find this place, but thankfully Spirit was there to lend me a hand." he stated. "So kids, how are you adjusting?"
"We're doing great Grunkle Ford, this is a great new experience for us!" Mabel exclaimed stepping out of a bedroom. "By the way, you're gonna get Soul's room while Dipper & I sleep on the couch." she added. "Plus Dipper & Maka are already doing nerd stuff in her room."
"Well it's good you're getting used to things. Now what's for dinner?" Ford wondered. "I know, why don't have some smoked sausages?" Blair asked suddenly appearing wearing only an apron with a wiener dog in her hand, much to Ford's alarm as he covered Mabel's eyes. "Don't you have any form of decency furball?!"
"Oh cut me some slack Sixer, with Soul gone I gotta have someone to have fun with." Blair stated defensively. "And besides you are a bit of a silver fox yourself." she playfully cooed before going her own way, leaving Ford aghast and Mabel's innocence preserved. "Seriously, what is a silver fox?!"
Meanwhile in Maka's room, Dipper & Maka were busy chatting and looking through her various books. "Wow, so you have your own weapon form as well? That seems utterly ridiculous and impossible." Dipper commented now sans his vest & shoes while Maka was also dressed more casually in a tanktop and sweatpants. "I agree, but it seems it can only appear when I'm knocked unconscious."
"Ooookay then." Dipper nervously replied before he spotted a framed postcard sitting on her desk. "Hey, what's this supposed to be?" he asked picking it up. "This actually came from my mother, which what inspired me to defeat Asura once and for all." Maka explained. "Everywhere she went, she made sure to send me a postcard of whatever destination she was in. This one in particular contains the Persian word for courage."
"Your mom must've really meant a lot to you if she keeps sending you postcards. Speaking of which, what caused her to not be present in your life?" the boy continued. "My dad was simply too much of a pervert, lusting after far too many other women which worsened our relationship." the Scythe Meister said. "In fact with Soul gone, he's probably the only Demon Scythe that I can use right now."
"Aw chin up, I'm sure you and your dad can patch things up somehow." Dipper assured Maka before Ford came calling for them. "Soup's on everyone! We're having smoked sausages tonight!"
"Let's just eat and later get ready for bed. Tomorrow's going to be your first day at the Academy." Maka stated hoisting Dipper onto her shoulders and carried him to the main room. "Wow, you're really strong for someone your age!"
"Thanks for the sushi dawg, feels like I haven't eaten anything in hours!" Soos thanked as he, Wendy, Black Star and Tsubaki sat down to some sushi she made. "Why thank you very much Soos. It's the best I can do for our guests." Tsubaki replied. "Yeah, make yourselves at home I guess." Black Star added. "So what are your lives like back at your home?"
"Well you probably know how my family is. I'm living with my abuelita, my dad just up & disappeared and my mom died too. But look at me now, still a jolly dude who's everyone's friend!" Soos exclaimed.
"And as for me, I got my dad and three bros, Marcus, Kevin & Gus." Wendy said pulling out a picture of herself and her aforementioned brothers when they were young. "We may get on each other's nerves a lot because manliness and all that, but we all still love each other."
"At least none of your brothers ever felt inferior to you to the point of wanting to become a Kishin!" Tsubaki nervously laughed before her expression turned somber, mourning the fall of her own brother.
"Good lord, look at you in that picture!" Black Star exclaimed staring at the picture, particularly the younger Wendy's hiked-up pants, pigtails & braces. "I'd say the years have been very kind to you Wendy." he complimented, making the lumberjack's daughter blush. "Oh, uh t-thanks Black Star."
"Oh, is that blush I spy Wendy? You got a thing for him?" Soos playfully mocked. "What, no she doesn't!" Black Star screamed. "My heart only belongs to one woman, and her name is The Path to Godhood!"
"Can you not Soos? I know you're only joking, but you're making everyone else nervous." Tsubaki gently scolded him, beginning to blush as well. "Sorry about that Baki." Soos retracted his earlier joke before he made an observation. "Hey, you're getting all red too! You perhaps jealous?"
"Oh just shut up already Soos." Wendy giggled with a sigh. "So you got any places for us to sleep here you guys?" she asked. "Oh I'm sure we could pull out a few spare mats." Tsubaki answered. "Wait, you're being serious? We're actually going to sleep on the floor?"
"It's okay Wendy, it's kinda like being in a sleeping bag. I looked it up on the Internet, and it says the Japanese always sleep on the floor." Soos assured her. "Which reminds me, you got any that can fit me?"
At Death the Kid's mansion, Pacifica, Gideon and Fiddleford were busy making themselves at home as well, sitting down in the dining room with Kid and the Thompsons. "Let us set some house rules everyone. Rule #1, everything must be kept absolutely symmetrical no matter what." the Immature Death God announced. "That especially goes for your Mr. McGucket, with your very looks and all."
"Well if you say so Kiddo, imma keep myself as sym-meteorite as possible!" McGucket claimed boldly, though the children he was now living with weren't so sure of it. "Now you got anything to eat here? I'm starving!"
"Pretty sure I can cook something up." Pacifica stated. "You can trust me, I've been working at Gravity Falls's local diner so I know my way around the kitchen."
"Yay, thanks Pazzy!" Patty exclaimed cheerfully. "It's honestly felt like ages since we had that gumbo at the Shack, I'm famished!" Liz added patting her stomach. "We are truly grateful for you offering to help us with dinner tonight Pacifica." Kid stated leading the younger girl to the kitchen. "So what do you think we should have anyway?"
The next day, far away in the outskirts of Death City, a young man dressed as a clergyman wearing a pair of headphones with Death's face on them bobbed his head to the music playing in them pulled up before the city in a dune buggy resembling a hearse and gazed at the Academy.
At the same time, a man wearing a large bear head appeared out of a coffee shop with a monkey wearing a backwards baseball cap clinging onto his shoulders.
A tall & large Russian man with a large nose wearing heavy winter clothes stepped out of an alleyway followed by another slimmer man with a bearskin hat and duffle coat.
A darker-skinned fellow stepped toward the Academy as well with white war paint on his face in the shape of a keyhole. Along with him was a taller man with a large afro, a pleated sarong and nothing covering his torso.
Another man appeared, his clothing much more loose and a turban covering his entire face. Beside him was a beautiful young woman dressed as a belly dancer.
Finally another lady made herself known, an Asian woman in formal attire who pushed up her glasses with a stern look on her face.
"Lord Death, all your weapons have arrived." Stein confirmed to Death in his room. "And this time, everyone is here."
"Excellent Stein," Lord Death replied. "tell everyone to meet here and we shall make preparations for Operation: Apple of Discord."
Meanwhile at Maka's apartment, the Pines were getting ready for their first day as temporary students at the DWMA. Mabel put the finishing touches on a scabbard she had made for her brother, which was pink in color with a silver metal tip, various ornate gold decorations and a pine tree symbol in the center. "C'mon Dipper, we don't wanna be late! Plus I got a surprise for you!"
"Be with you in a bit Mabel, just gotta do a few more pushups for Excalibur." Dipper groaned struggling to do more warmups under the guidance on the Holy Sword while Blair innocently waved a flag around. "Keep moving Dipper, I don't know what I've been told but all that glitters isn't gold!" Excalibur barked. "You do realize that those two sayings don't make any sense together, right?!" his new Meister panted before his arms finally gave out. "Can we please be done now?"
Pulling out a stopwatch, Excalibur examined it for a bit before giving his answer. "Yes indeed, you have completed all exercises in the allotted time." he answered. "Great, cause lookie what I got for you bro-bro!" Mabel exclaimed revealing her scabbard to Dipper. "Oh yeah, that looks uh, great Mabel."
"FOOL!" Excalibur cried smacking Dipper with the end of his cane. "I sense a bit of nervousness in your tone my boy. Could it perhaps be the color?" he suggested. "Don't let any gender stereotypes bring you down, just accept that your sister has made you a lovely gift."
With that, Excalibur changed into his weapon form to allow Dipper to insert him into his new sheath, which he hung over his shoulder. "Come along kids, the Academy can't be kept waiting!" Ford called about to step out of the door. "Trust us, you're going to love it there!" Maka added and the twins joined them and Crona on their way to the school, leaving Blair and Waddles behind.
Much later, the group had arrived at the front doors of the Death Weapon Meister Academy. Each of them, especially the Pines, knew this would bring them one step closer to stopping Kishin Cipher, rescuing their loved ones and saving Gravity Falls.
Just then, Kid & the Thompsons stepped towards them with Pacifica, Gideon & McGucket in tow along with Black Star, Tsubaki, Soos & Wendy. "Mornin' dudes, you ready for your first day of school?" Soos asked them. "Well since we're coming here during the summer, I guess this would sort of count as summer school."
"You're going to be in the EAT class with us." Black Star stated. "Just as a fair warning, things can get pretty crazy in there so try to keep your heads down."
"Thank you very much Black Star." Ford said pushing open the doors. "Now come along children, we've got work to do!" Suddenly he was interrupted when he opened it to find Stein already inside waiting for him. "Death wants to see you Stanford."
"Oh, me?" Ford wondered. "I am terribly sorry to come and go everyone, but I am needed elsewhere. I'll see you all later!" he quickly apologized stepping through the entrance and walking away with Stein, leaving the kids, Soos & McGucket to wonder what he was needed for.
"So what is your reasoning for pulling me aside Franken?" the author wondered as he was led by Stein back to the Death Room. "Lord Death wants you to join in on a little meeting he's holding with some of his colleagues." the Meister answered letting him inside the room where the Death God was standing before Sid & Spirit along with a host of other colorful characters. "I can only assume these are the other Death Scythes?"
"Indeed they are Stanford." a dark-skinned woman covered in bandages replied. "Mira Naigus, school nurse and DWMA CIA commander at your service Mr. Pines." she introduced herself shaking the scientist's hand. "They are Justin Law of Western Europe, Tezca Tlipoca & Enrique of South America, Tsar Pushka & Feodor of Russia, Dengu Dinga & Alexandre of Africa, Djinn Galland & Zubaidah of West Asia, Azusa Yumi of Oceania and finally...alright, where is she?"
"Where's who?" Ford asked. "Let me guess, Marie is lost again?" Tsar Pushka wondered as if he had experienced this before. Enrique the monkey chattered excitedly while hopping up & down which made Tezca cackle rolling on the floor. "You're right little buddy! Maybe it is because of that eyepatch!"
"Sorry I'm late everyone!" the voice of another young woman cried rushing into the Death Room. This woman in particular had blonde hair & was clad in a black dress with a large yellow zigzag pattern on it and an eyepatch with a lightning bolt symbol. Just the combination of the color scheme and choice of accessory alone made Ford both suspicious & nervous. "Again, sorry I'm late Death! Just got a little lost, as usual."
"Oh don't be Marie." Death stated. "Now then, we have gathered you all here today to discuss a new threat that has emerged and wreaking havoc upon the world. To further elaborate, I'd like to introduce you all to our guest Stanford Pines." he explained introducing Ford to the Death Scythes. "Greetings everyone. As you may know, I hail from a town in Oregon known as Gravity Falls that is currently undergoing serious peril."
"Could you please explain more about this threat Stanford?" Azusa asked. Before Ford could answer, Spirit hurriedly rushed to his side. "I'd try to keep my mouth shut around her if I were you." he whispered. "While she is very respectful, she's also a total bossyboots as well, which earned her the title Queen of the Committee Chairman."
"Excuse me Albarn, but Mr. Pines is trying to speak." Azusa scolded Spirit with a snap of her fingers. "Now please, return to your spot." Much to his chagrin, Spirit obliged as Ford continued to speak. "Anyways ladies and gentlemen, I'd like you to meet Bill Cipher." he announced making the triangle appear on Death's mirror. "A powerful dream demon originating from the second dimension, Bill is currently merged with the Kishin you may know as Asura and the two have made Gravity Falls their domain, hoping to extend their madness across the globe and potentially the rest of the universe as well."
"Are you serious, we're going up against some triangle?" Djinn Galland commented. "Do not be fooled by his simplistic appearance. Bill is a conniving, sadistic monster who can trick or possess anyone to get his way." Ford stated. "He is also highly intelligent, preferring to make deals with his victims to further his own evil deeds."
"Although he can't do much in the mindscape, in our physical realm he is pretty much omniscient. Telepathy, manipulation of things like time & matter, reality warping, the whole nine yards!" Death added. "Combined with Asura's own abilities and godlike Soul Wavelength, the two of them combined are nearly unstoppable."
"What do you mean by nearly sir?" Dengu Dinga asked. "Through some careful research, I was able to deduce that only a zodiac made up of twenty symbols representing 23 souls can create a force strong enough to terminate him." the polydactyl professor stated. Just then he noticed Justin Law barely paying attention and instead listening to his music. "Excuse me young man, we are currently having a discussion that we'd be happy to have you join in on."
"What?!" Justin shouted in Ford's face, much to his surprise. "I said, please take off your earphones and pay attention!" Ford shouted back. "Oh, I am terribly sorry, please proceed." the young Death Scythe politely apologized removing his earbuds. "As I was saying, we must organize a plan of attack on Cipher. One group shall go on ahead & distract him while another shall progress and finish off both him and his four Madnesses, Sloth, Wrath, Greed & Envy."
"Horosho, should be easy." Feodor remarked. "We just go in, wait for you to go after us and everything will be all fine and dandy." he stated. "Don't be so casual. As I stated, Bill can do pretty much anything when in the physical realm, so we must keep ourselves sane if we want to survive." Death said. "However there aren't many ways to keep him from going into our minds."
"I would suggest outfitting our skulls with metal plates since it's the only method we have on hand, but it's very painful." Ford stated. "Are you serious?" Sid wondered and the scientist only replied by knocking on his head, producing a loud clanging noise. "Okay, maybe I could use one of those."
"Oh great googly-moogly, it's almost time for class!" Ford exclaimed looking at his watch. "I hate to come in and run folks, but the twins should be waiting for me!"
"Very well then. Everybody here is dismissed!" Death declared clapping his hands, signaling for his weapons to disperse. As they began leaving the Death Room, Stein stepped up next to Ford. "Hey, I've got an offer for you." he said. "How do you feel about becoming a guest teacher today?"
"Why I'd be delighted Stein!" Ford exclaimed cheerfully. "I actually do have a few degrees so I might know my way around things." he added. "Excellent, I'll be there to assist you along with Marie here." Stein stated introducing him to the blonde woman.
"Oh hey, don't think Mira introduced me! I'm Marie Mjolnir from Oceania, pleased to meet you." Marie greeted, but Ford only returned her greeting with a cold glare. "Are you okay? Why are you giving me the stink-eye?"
In a large classroom filled with multiple academy students, Dipper & Mabel took their seats waiting for the teacher to appear. "What's taking Ford so long? Whatever business Death's got with him, I hope he isn't too preoccupied." Soos wondered sitting down with the twins. Just then a door opened and Stein appeared sitting backwards on a swivel chair and rolling backwards before he fell over. "Good morning class."
"Good morning Professor Stein." the students replied in unison. "Hiya Mr. Stein!" Mabel cried before she was met with a scalpel launched in her direction, only managing to hit the desk behind her. "Oops, sorry sir."
"Anyway, today we have a special guest to lead the class today." the Meister announced. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like you all to meet Mr. Stanford Pines." Ford then stepped into the room waving as the class applauded, with Soos cheering loudly. "Woo, we love ya Mr. Pines!"
Another scalpel flew in Soos's direction, again only managing to hit a nearby desk. "I'll keep my mouth shut." he squeaked ducking down. "Now then, let's get down to business." Ford announced writing his name on the board. "My name is Stanford Pines, a professional in the field of investigating cryptids and other oddities."
"What kind of cryptids did you meet sir?" a young man with thick glasses and horn-like hair asked. "Well that is a very good question young one." Ford answered. "Among the creatures I have researched are gnomes, unicorns, vampire bats, a squash with a human face & emotions, leprecorns, the Hide-Behind and cursed Egyptian super-termites."
As Ford continued speaking, Dipper & Kid decided to strike up a conversation. "So what did your father want my great uncle for?" Dipper asked. "I do not know, but I feel this requires some investigating. Want to join me after class?" Kid offered. "Are you kidding, I'd love to!"
"Hey, don't you want to train with me & Tsubaki on how to swordfight?" Black Star asked. "I would like to do that as well, but I think I'm gonna have trouble balancing it all." Dipper answered. "I could find a way to make another me to do one thing while I do another, but the last time I tried that went horribly wrong."
"And that's how I wound up who I am today." Ford concluded a speech. "Now then, are there any more questions?" he asked. "I got one." a somewhat familiar sounding voice said. "Yes, what do you have to say sir?"
"You ever tried giving up?" Suddenly the classroom turned monochrome as the voice began cackling. "I know that laugh." Ford angrily declared. "Come on out Bill, or keep hiding like a coward if you like!"
"Try turning around to your right Sixer." Ford did as Bill said and much to his horror, he found Marie taking off her eyepatch to reveal the eye of someone who would be possessed by the dream demon. "Did you really think you could escape me old chum? I thought we were best friends!" he exclaimed with a loud "OHOHOHOHO!"
"Quit laughing Bill! You've made my family suffer for far too long!" Ford screamed angrily grasping Marie's shoulders and shaking her back and forth, though Bill only laughed again. "Quit your fighting Stanford, even if you move yourself away from Gravity Falls I'll always be watching you!"
"No you won't, because I've got help!" Ford declared preparing to strangle Marie. "But how can you say that when you're already choking one of your "little helpers?" Toodle-oo!" Suddenly Bill disappeared leaving only the Death Scythe hailing from Oceania in his place, choking as the scientist tightly grasped her neck. "W-what are you d-doing?"
"Come back here you bastard and fight me! I could do this all day!" That was the last thing Stanford would say before he felt Stein punch him in the back. "Three-Fold!" the mad Meister exclaimed. "Gi, Go, Shoku!"
After being punched three times, Ford started bleeding from the mouth and lost his grip on Marie's neck before falling down in front of the stunned students. "Class dismissed." he coldly announced turning his screw and slinging Ford over his shoulder to carry him off, the classroom still deathly quiet.
Minutes later, Dipper and Mabel patiently waited in the school's dispensary for any news on their grunkle's condition. He laid there unconscious in the hospital bed, blood spilled from his mouth and his eyes shut. "What do you think prompted Ford to attack the eyepatch lady?" Mabel asked her brother, who stopped jotting down all he had learned in class to answer. "I don't know. But come to think of it, she does kinda remind me of Bill."
"What do you mean by that?" Mabel continued. "Well her primary colors are yellow & black and she has an eyepatch; but she looks in no way the type that would affiliate with him." Dipper analyzed. Just then, Maka opened the door to find the twins already in the room. "Hey guys, sorry about what happened with Ford."
"It's all right Maka, it's just that Bill hurt him so much that anything reminding him of the guy might trigger him now." Dipper said before Stein & Mira appeared as well with notes on his condition. "Good news children, your great-uncle shall be fine." the bandage-covered nurse announced. "Bad news, we may have diagnosed him with a mild case of PTSD."
"Tell us something we don't know! He's already suffered enough at the hands of Bill before, but what happened when Kishin Cipher has made things even worse for him!" Dipper exclaimed just as they heard moaning coming from Ford. "Hey, he's waking up!"
At the same time, Marie suddenly barged into the dispensary. "I am so sorry about what happened to Stanford! I didn't realize I would make him so mad, yet I don't know how!" she exclaimed before she suddenly tripped over and fell on Ford's body as he awakened. "Oh my back. What happened?" he groaned. "Kids?"
"Ford!" the twins cried in unison hugging their great-uncle. "Kids! Please tell me what happened." the genius said. "You were just standing there talking nerd stuff when you started rambling about Bill before strangling the eyepatch lady." Mabel explained. "Then Mr. Stein punched you so hard that you started bleeding from the mouth!"
"Wait, I did what?!" Ford exclaimed trying to comprehend what his great-niece had said. "Like I said, I'm truly sorry if I made you mad Stanford." Marie said getting up and dusting herself off. "And I assume you must be his great-nephew & niece?" she asked the twins. "Yes m'am! I'm Mabel and this is my brother Dipper!" Mabel introduced her and Dipper. "What's your name eyepatch lady?"
"My name's Marie Mjolnir. Very nice to meet you." Marie said shaking the kids' hands. "I have some apologies myself Marie. I am deeply regretful of what I've done earlier." Ford apologized. "Hopefully you can find a way to forgive me as well."
"Oh it's all right Ford." Marie replied before a crow suddenly flew by the window, squawking "Ahou! Ahou! Ahou!" much to the confusion of everyone in the room. "What the hell is that crow doing outside?" Ford wondered. "We have no idea either." Mira said. "It's been flying around the Academy for weeks, often appearing whenever someone would make a fool of themselves."
"Unrelated topic, but shouldn't you be assembling with Sid, the Scythes and Mifune to move out to Gravity Falls?" Stein wondered. "That's right, I just wanted to make some last arrangements before departing." Mira stated before walking out of the dispensary. "I shall see you all again soon."
With the nurse now leaving the room, the Pines then turned to meet Maka's gaze. "So what brings you here Maka? Well, other than my condition of course." Ford wondered. "I actually came to tell you about a big party Kid is throwing at his mansion to welcome you all to Death City." Maka announced.
"The whole school is invited actually, faculty included!"
"That sounds delightful Maka, I'll make a note of it." Stein commented turning to Ford. "And as for you, I think we should get you back home to recover. Which might mean you can't go to the party."
"Aw man, this could've been the perfect chance for you to find someone to love!" Mabel groaned in disappointment before she felt Marie tap her shoulder. "Did you say love? Are you like some expert matchmaker or something?" the Death Scythe asked. "All I ever wanted to do is find a man to love and we could retire together & have some beautiful children! I'm so desperate I might as well marry a toilet!"
"Well you could find a plumber to hook up with." Dipper snarked. "Preferably one who doesn't wear a tie and beats up evil turtles for a living."
"Mark my words Marie, I'm going to find you a man tonight or my name isn't Mabel Danielle Pines! And it is!" Mabel heroically declared. "Now then, gimme some info. For an possible dating site profile." she said leading Marie out the door. "Well I was born on June 8, 1984 in Oceania. I'm interested in surfing, Norse mythology, kangaroos, biking..."
"I can already tell they're going to be an unstoppable duo." Dipper declared as the two's voices grew fainter. "Speaking of teams, I have some business of my own to do." he said leaving the room as well. "Which one, training with Black Star or investigating with Kid?" Maka asked. "Both of them. We all decided to reach a compromise. See you tonight Maka!"
Soon Maka departed as well leaving Stein & Ford alone in the dispensary. "Okay, now that the children are out of the way, let's get to bringing you home." the stitched-up scientist declared helping Ford out of the hospital bed and leading him by the hand to the exit before Spirit suddenly appeared on the other side. "Hey Stein, you done with your business yet? I've been thinking we should go to Chupa-Cabra's later and-what are you doing?"
"He's simply helping me up, don't take it the wrong way Spirit!" Ford exclaimed nervously taking his hand away from Stein's. "And what is this Chupa-Cabra's place?" he wondered. "Oh it's just great Pines! I mean, you won't find any other place in Death City with babes and booze!" Spirit explained. "You gotta come with us!"
"Okay I'll bite." Ford gave in. "I think I might need a break from all this emotional suffering."
"Thanks for clearing up your schedule and helping us compromise on how to spend your time Dipper." Tsubaki said gratefully as they, along with Black Star, Excalibur, Kid and the Thompsons traversed the halls. "You're welcome Tsubaki. But is there anyone in this school that could tell us where to go from here?" Dipper wondered. "There actually is, and he should be coming up right now." Kid stated just as they came across a tall man with a chin-curtain beard, closed eyes and a rather large forehead drinking some coffee. "Hello again Joe."
"Oh hey kids, good to see you again. How's Oregon been?" the man asked them. "We actually brought something home from there!" Patty exclaimed bringing Dipper to his attention. "We'd like you to meet Dipper Pines!"
"What's up kid, name's Joe Buttakaki." Joe introduced himself shaking the boy's hand. "So what brings you here to Death City?" The Pines brother was silent for a moment before he answered, his voice firm with resolution. "I want to know about the Kishin Asura, and Lord Death's relationship with him."
Joe was silent and then he turned around. "Follow me." he simply stated leading the party away. "I knew the day when someone would ask about them would come. I just thought it would've been just Kid instead of you."
"Well that's the thing Joe, Asura called him his pesky little brother. What the hell is up with that?!" Black Star exclaimed as they moved from the academy interior to its underground hallways. "This was a secret Lord Death has sworn me to keep since I graduated from the academy." the DWMA's tech expert explained. "But word on the street is he's roped another person into his little inner circle of secret keepers."
"Another person?" Dipper wondered scratching his chin to deduce who this individual could be before Excalibur smacked him upside the head. "FOOL! It's most likely he's talking about your great-uncle." he declared to his new Meister, to his shock and exasperation. "Seriously?! We've already kept enough secrets from each other last summer, but this is getting ridiculous! I mean, what other stuff could we be in the dark about?!"
"I-I don't know, I'd prefer t-t-URP-to put the lime in the c-c-coconut and then eat the candle." Ford drunkenly remarked as he sat in Chupa-Cabra's with Spirit & Stein along with Blair, a pair of beautiful women and stacks upon stacks of beer mugs. "Very glad you're enjoying yourself Mr. Pines! Terribly sorry about what happened to your brother too." the first woman, named Risa, said comforting the elderly genius. "Yeah, I can see you're just utterly heartbroken by that." her partner Arisa added pouring Ford another drink. "Here, have another."
"Thank you ladies. You're such nice people." Ford thanked them putting his arms on their shoulders. "You're both absolute babes, but you Risa are just a beautiful butterfly." he slurred putting their faces uncomfortably close to one another and lightly gripping her chest. "I can definitely see that age has been insanely generous to you."
"Hey Ford, buddy?" Spirit interjected putting a hand on his shoulder. "I think all this booze is getting' to you. Listen, I get you're still super depressed over what happened to Stan, but you can't just waste your time just drinking your troubles away."
"You're one to talk scarlet, you'd rather waste your time here than be a good father!" Ford spitted at Spirit, much to his chagrin. "Dude, harsh!" he exclaimed in defense. "But I'm gettin' ahead of myself you're all the best people God ever crapped onto his dumpster fire of an asteroid! Drinks on me ladies and gents!" Ford shouted, leaving everyone stunned and concerned for him. "But how are you going to pay for all this?" Stein wondered. "You probably don't have that much money."
"OfcourseIdoKarloff!" Ford stuttered, his statement barely understandable as he fished some odd currency out of his pockets. "Lemme see I got zeni Beli woolongs Bison dollars bits bells gold rings gil munny rupees bolts lien schmeckles bottle caps all that jazz!"
"Wait, as in literal bottle caps? Where did you get these?" Stein wondered picking up a bottle cap. "Just another post-apocalyptic wasteland that I ran into across the multiverse somewhere!" Ford exclaimed spreading his arms wide. "There were giant roaches everywhere and I was accompanied by the cutest little dog who loved running into forcefields!" He then suddenly dropped to his knees with a crestfallen look on his face as he raised his arms up and screamed "DOGMEAT, NOOOOOO!"
"Seriously Fordsy, you need to chill out!" Blair sternly declared trying to stop Ford's drunken ranting, but was met with being lovingly gazed at by the great-uncle. "Can you hear my thoughts?" he began monologuing to himself. "My buddy from a distant star, I'm not sure I even know who you are. Look at me, like a kid out of school hanging out with a fool. A fool who I think is actually kinda cool."
"Are you okay there Stanford? You're slobbering all over the floor." Stein asked. "Why am I starting to drool?" Ford mused as saliva began pouring from his mouth before he finally fell over on his face, on the verge of a hangover. "We're trying to help you, you've had enough!" Spirit tried to pull him up but his hand was slapped aside. "I KNOW WHEN I'VE HAD ENOUGH YOU BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS!"
With that, Ford slipped into unconsciousness in a pool of his own drool and the stacks of mugs about to fall on him. He could barely make out the sounds of him being picked up off the floor and a door opening.
"Will this give us the answers we've been looking for?" Dipper asked as their group stood outside a large door deep within the academy's underground. "Yes indeed Dipper, welcome to the academy's Secret Vault." Kid declared pushing the door open to reveal a plethora of bizarre machinery lying around. "This is where we keep the various Demon Tools created by Eibon, whom as we discussed a long time ago during our rescue mission, created the Demon Weapons inspired by Excalibur."
"Whoa, Ford would've loved to see this place! Can't wait till I tell him at the party!" the younger boy gasped in amazement examining the various devices the sorcerer created. "There's just so many of them, I probably can't think straight over what they can do!"
"I know what'll help you think, some much needed sword training!" Black Star declared. "Once Tsubaki & I show you the ropes, you'll be an ace in no time! Though obviously not on par with yours truly."
"I'll give him the basics and you'll deal with some of the more complex stuff." Tsubaki suggested picking up a wooden bokken and taking a stance while Dipper prepared as well, summoning Excalibur to his side. "Now then Dipper, everything starts with your stance." she instructed her student as their weapons lightly tapped each other. "Keep your stance wide and your body lowered as you're moving forward."
"Balance is the key, right?" Dipper asked. "Correct." the shadow weapon answered. "Next is your right foot, then your left foot." she continued lecturing as they sparred. "Now go even faster. And as you're moving backwards, keep your eyes on me."
"Hey guys, I think I found something!" Patty shouted from afar, popping up with a large key in hand. "Doesn't this seem a little familiar to you guys?" she wondered turning it around to reveal that the teeth were in the shape of an E. "How can this be possible?! It disappeared along with him!" Kid exclaimed in shock taking the key out of his weapon's hands. "This has to be some kind of trap devised to keep intruders away from the Vault!"
"Nope, looks like the real deal to me." Joe guessed gazing at the key as well. "What are you guys talking about and why is that key so perplexing to you?" Dipper asked. "Let me take a look at it."
With the mysterious key handed to him, Dipper observed it looking for clues on what to do. "Maybe I should try rubbing it?" he suggested doing just that. "Sorry kid, but this doesn't look like any magic lamp." Liz snarked. "Or maybe it can open a door to the heart of all worlds!" Black Star chirped. "And it can also be used as a weapon to fight evil shadow creatures with no hearts!"
"Wait, I think I know one thing it can open." Kid announced looking towards a strange cube with ancient writing scribbled on it placed on a pedestal. "What is that thing?" Dipper wondered walking toward the cube. "That my friend is BREW, the legendary Demon Tool that can merge two things into one or create whatever the user desires." Excalibur answered. "If used incorrectly, it can bring about utter destruction as we know it."
Dipper then slowly inserted the key into BREW but unfortunately, nothing happened. "Is this going to be like in the movies and shows where it seems like something doesn't work but then after a few seconds it actually does?" Patty wondered and she was indeed proven right as BREW began to glow and flash wildly, causing debris from all around the room to fly around it. "Called it!"
"Everybody get down!" Dipper screamed before everyone ducked their heads down, all except for Excalibur, who only said "Fool." before BREW stopped shining and dust began forming, leading a large silhouette to appear.
When the dust settled, all that was left was a humanoid man whose appearance was concealed by a simple mask and extravagant robes. "What happened? Where am I?" the man wondered in a panic, unaware of his current surroundings. Just then he heard footsteps and found a young boy standing before him, looking up at his mask. "Excuse me sir, but are you Eibon?"
"Yes, indeed I am little one." Eibon answered quietly. "And you are?" he asked back, though the boy only replied by collapsing on the ground. "Dipper!" the Sorcerer heard a familiar voice. 'Dipper?' he thought. 'What an odd name.'
"Wake up Dipper, are you all right?!" Kid exclaimed trying to wake his younger companion up. "Why yes Mrs. Lincoln, and how was the play?" Dipper woozily asked barely putting his train of thought back on track. "What just happened?!"
"Hello again, old friend." Excalibur greeted Eibon. Although they couldn't see it through his mask, he was most definitely making the Excalibur face.
"Am I in the Secret Vault? How long was I out? Did we win?" Eibon asked still in the dark about current events. "Yes you are, about a few weeks and yes we did." Joe answered all three of the Sorcerer's questions. "That's quite a lot to take in. And who is this boy still?" Eibon continued. "Very few people are allowed in the vault!"
"My name's Dipper Pines Mr. Eibon." Dipper introduced himself shaking the giant's hand. "Very nice to meet you."
"Pleased to meet you too young man." Eibon replied accepting the child's handshake. "But still, what kind of name is Dipper?" he wondered. "Oh yeah, that's what most people call me because of this." Dipper replied taking off his hat and pushing aside some hair to reveal his birthmark. "My word, the Big Dipper! Now it makes more sense!"
"That would explain quite a bit. I just thought your folks hated you or something." Black Star added. "So tell me Dipper, what brings you to this vault?" Eibon asked. "I simply came because I want more info on Lord Death and Asura."
"I knew the day would come when someone would ask." the Sorcerer muttered. "Yes the rumors are indeed true, Asura is Death's son." he stated. "Which would make Kid here..."
"My-my brother." the young Death God finally realized. "How has Father kept this from me for centuries?!" he screamed, desperate for more answers. "He simply didn't want you to feel betrayed!" Eibon stated. "I am sorry we couldn't tell you all this time, not just me and your dad."
"Wait, what do you mean?" Black Star wondered. "It wasn't just me that held his secret. All his Death Scythes were in on it as well, and Excalibur too." Eibon revealed, causing everyone to look at the Holy Sword in annoyance. "What, I suppose you're going to get mad at me for keeping quiet as well?"
"What else is he keeping from us? I suppose something related to a certain triangle." Dipper asked, writing in his journal. "I presume you've encountered Bill Cipher as well. As have Death and I." Eibon continued preparing to reminisce on that time. "He came to us claiming that he can help him purge the world of evil, but of course it was all a lie."
"Aw come on Death, we can still work things out! Honest!" Bill Cipher urged the Shinigami as they fought in the Nightmare Realm. "Silence you three-sided scum, or I'll dip you in magma and eat you alive!" Death threatened in a much more menacing voice glaring at the demon through his realistic mask. "You thought your wily words could swindle me, but I shall be tricked no longer!"
"I know you're in there somewhere best buddy! The four of us actually made a good team." Bill stated with a chortle. "You, me, Eibon and Arachne, we would've been unstoppable together! But NOOOO, that little tattletale of a Holy Sword just had to rat me out!"
"It was for the greater good!" Death shouted before he felt his cloak being incinerated by Bill's azure flames. "AAAAAGGGGHHHHH!"
As the Shinigami screamed in pain, Bill pulled out a stopwatch counting down how many seconds it took for his anguished crying to stop. "Wow, 42 seconds! That's gotta be a new record!" he commented applauding as the Death God's cloak regenerated, Death himself looking more furious than ever. "Death Claw!" he screamed summoning four black tendrils bearing his face to grab Bill by the arms and dragging them towards each other, allowing Death to deal the final blow. "REAPER CHOP!"
With a mighty slap, Bill shouted in pain clutching his eye. "You damn idiot, that was one of my weaknesses!" the demon screamed. "All right, you win you idiot!" he added finally surrendering. "It's about time you golden beast. Now leave this realm and never return, unless you want me to tear you to shreds." Death snarled menacingly sticking his bony hand toward him. "AM, I, CLEAR?!"
"Oh you may have won this time bonehead, but I'm not done with your puny world yet!" Bill cautioned him casting him out of the Nightmare Realm. "And when that day comes, I won't be the only one you'll be worrying about. Until then, I'll be watching you! I'LL BE WATCHING YOU!"
"So you and Lord Death actually worked together with Bill at some point? Gee that totally doesn't sound familiar!" Black Star exclaimed rolling his eyes. "Hey speaking of which, I wonder how Ford is doing?" Dipper wondered before his phone started ringing. "Well speak of the devil." he muttered picking it up. "Go for Dipper!"
"Who is it? And what is that strange contraption you're holding?" Eibon asked as the boy hung up. "It's Mabel sir, something's wrong with Ford!" Dipper exclaimed. "Ford? My word, we've been down here so long I've lost track of time!" Kid fretted exiting the Secret Vault. "We need to get ready for tonight!"
"Aw geez you're right! C'mon Tsubaki, let's get cracking!" Black Star shouted, the two racing ahead of them. "A party, you're having a party? Can I come!?" Eibon asked getting excited. "As much as I hate to say this, but it's best that you stay down here for now." Joe answered. "Hopefully we can meet each other again!"
When the door finally closed leaving Eibon all by himself in the vault, he took a moment to look around, examining all the various Demon Tools he created being stored there. Stepping toward a large machine with a clockwork key inside it, he opened it and found a small plaque with his and Death's signatures on it. "Why must there be so many secrets?"
By the time Ford began regaining some form of thought, everything around him was still incredibly blurry. It felt like he was submerged in some nice-smelling liquid and something round & soft was right in front of him. He could also hear a female singing about pumpkins and magic.
"N-no wire h-hangers, ever." he slurred finally coming to. Slowly opening his eyes, he found himself in a bathtub with Waddles right in front of him. "Waddles? What are you doing here? Where am I?"
"Oh goody, you're finally awake!" a familiar cadence exclaimed. With a rub of his eyes, Blair sat right before him in the tub completely nude. "Goodness gravy!" Ford screamed stumbling out of the tub before unfortunately falling on his face, causing his nose to bleed. "I have asked this once, I've asked this a thousand times! Is shame just nowhere to be found in your dictionary?!"
Waddles oinked twice turning his head in amusement. "Oh don't you start!" Ford scolded the swine. "Look at me, I'm a mess!" he exclaimed. "Then what state were you in earlier?" the Monster Cat snarked, making the scientist realize just what he had become. Gazing deeply into the bathroom mirror, staring back at him was a man completely broken by loss, desperate to relieve himself of his grief even though it was completely fruitless.
"Stanford Filbrick Pines, what happened to you?" he groaned in regret before he pulled a drenched photo of him and Stanley as children posing with their shipwreck the Stan O' War. It wasn't long before all those times where he had begged to relieve himself of the pain, first losing his brother, then making a scene in front of an entire class and finally falling into a hangover, came crashing down and he finally broke down in tears. "Why me?! Just why?!"
"Oh don't cry Forddy." Blair said getting out of the tub to comfort him. "And yes, I am wearing a bathrobe this time. Now come on, let's get you some coffee."
One towel over the scientist's head and a cup of coffee in his hand later, Ford sat down on the couch utterly miserable while the Monster Cat gently massaged his back. "Thank you very much Blair, but I feel it's pretty much hopeless for me. My family's torn apart and Kishin Cipher is running amok back in Gravity Falls." he sighed deeply. "Hey I've always wanted to know, what's your story? Well, other than being a promiscuous cat with magic powers that happens to resemble a witch."
"I wasn't able to tell anyone about it my entire time in Death City, but my past isn't all sunshine and rainbows." Blair answered lying down and resting her legs on his lap. "I did originate from the Witches' Realm, but their destruction loving ways are seriously boring. I just love ditching them and hanging out in Death City, which is where I first met Maka & Soul."
"Interesting. Could you perhaps further elaborate on Witches?" Ford wondered beginning to show a bit of his old self pulling out a notepad to jot down on. "Well, they're like super powerful when it comes to magic and also can live a really long time!" Blair explained. "There are also maybe a few wandering around in Death City keeping themselves hidden using Soul Protect, which they can use to disguise their souls as normal humans."
"Disguising their souls. Gonna have to look further into that." Ford mumbled writing down notes. "Speaking of which, where did the kids run off too? I'm sure they couldn't have gone far." he wondered. "Oh yeah, they went to a party at Kid's place after coming back here to check up on you." the cat answered, to Ford's alarm. "My goodness, the party! I should best get ready! Blair, is there anything around here I can wear?"
Just then, Waddles oinked as he waddled in, wearing a small hand towel on his head as he pointed to Soul's room. "Thank you oh so much Waddles. And I should really dry out my clothes too."
Stepping into Soul's empty bedroom and closing the door behind him, Ford came out moments later in a simple suit with a black jacket with matching shoes, tie & pants and white undershirt. When he turned around to examine himself in the mirror, Blair's slender hands grasped his shoulders. Turning around, the author found the cat dressed up for a night on the town herself in a purple dress with a single slit on the side showing some leg and her hair in a ponytail. Waddles on the other hand wore a tiny bowler hat and a bowtie.
"I suppose you're coming along as well?" Ford asked. "Of course I am, just to keep you grounded. And Waddles is coming too!" Blair answered, and Waddles added with an oink. "That'd be delightful. Now let's get moving!" While opening the door, Ford felt Blair start holding his hand and he held hers with a grin, the three of them finally walking out together.
"I can't believe it, we haven't found you a man all day!" Mabel exclaimed as she and Marie helped themselves to some punch at the buffet table at Kid's party. "And to add insult to the coffin, no hits on your dating profile yet!"
"I know right? At this rate I might as well marry a toilet!" Marie replied. "But which kind would take me, cause I'm leaning toward a porta-potty. At least we can go anywhere together!" Just then Dipper walked up to the buffet table. "What was that about toilets?" he asked with a nervous look. "Oh nothing broseph, we're just talking about Ms. Marie's love life."
"Hey everybody, I got some more mineral water for you if you're thirsty!" a blonde young man with bright blue eyes exclaimed racing into the main hall with platters of wine glasses filled with water. "Hey thanks Hiro, I was getting thirsty!" Marie thanked the boy taking a glass. "And how are those lambchops with applesauce coming along?"
"Doing good, I'll bring them out in a sec!" Hiro replied before he began groaning to himself. "If only I had my own weapon that would make people stop pushing me around. Well other than Excalibur anyway." he muttered. "What's his problem?" Dipper wondered beginning to snack on some hors d'oeuvres. "TL;DR, he's a total wimp that people treat as their servant because he doesn't have a weapon." Mabel answered. "But where can we find a good one for him?"
"Maybe he'd match up well with Mai Thi Hoang from the NOT class over there. She's real nice and could probably treat him well." the Death Scythe suggested pointing to a young Vietnamese girl with red-framed glasses making small talk with Gideon. The two of them then put on their own glasses before menacingly tenting their fingers and declaring "Jackpot." while their lenses shined.
"For the last time Fiddleford, stop pigging out on all that spaghetti! Were you raised on a farm or something?!" Kid complained to McGucket. "As a matter of fact Stripes, I am!" the genius hillbilly replied. "And this ain't spaghetti, it's linguini!"
Kid only responded by briefly gazing at the plate before he snatched it out of Fiddleford's hands and chucked it at the wall. "Now it's garbage." he coldly declared just as he realized the mess he made and hastily cleaned it up, desperate to keep the symmetry of his home intact. "Whew, close call!"
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Oh, that must be Ford! Wonder what took him so long?" Maka said opening the doors to find not only Stanford, but also Blair & Waddles as well. "Hello there miss, sorry I took so long." the author sheepishly said stepping inside. "And I've also brought a few plus-ones."
"Oh my gosh, you all look amazing! And Waddles is dressed like a little man out for a night on the town too!" Mabel squealed racing towards the three of them. Maka on the other hand couldn't help but find Ford's suit familiar. "That's the same outfit Soul wore to the Anniversary Eve celebration."
"Oh, I didn't realize! If it's okay with you, I could go back and find a different suit." Ford stated before Maka stopped him. "It's fine Mr. Pines. It's fine." she sighed, still hurting over losing Soul. "Aw don't feel so blue Maka, mama Blair can make you feel all better!" Blair assured the young Meister. "Thank you Blair. I can't believe I just said that."
"Yo old man, how are you recovering?!" Black Star exclaimed rushing up to Ford. "I'm doing fine Black Star. And please don't call me old man!" Stanford said. "Okay then old man." the young ninja replied. "Good grief."
"Black Star, Mabel, can I pull you two aside for a bit?" Dipper asked them. "I want to talk with Ford and I don't want anyone to notice us." he said. "Oh, you mean that stuff about Asura?" Black Star said. "Wait, what's this about Asura?" Mabel wondered. "We'll explain later. Right now, I'm gonna need you to provide a distraction." her brother ordered. "Any ideas?"
"Ooh, I got one!" Mabel chirped. "Why don't we get the orchestra to play a new song, one that's less boring?" she suggested. "Okay, which one?" Dipper wondered to which she replied by pulling out a music sheet, making the boy facepalm. "Seriously, that one? That is just so 2004!"
"Oh man, I love this song!" Black Star exclaimed. "And yes, I know it's hilarious that I, a super manly man, adore a song written by a boy band loved by young girls at the time." he added. "Now what are you waiting for, get them to play it!"
Mabel stepped up to the orchestra with the sheet in hand and shoved the piece they were playing aside in favor of hers. "Hey, can you play this instead?" she asked. After some careful consideration, the orchestra shrugged and played the new song, which Mabel & Black Star began singing along to. "Quit playing games with my head! I'm a sport but I'm not a toy," they harmonized to the high-class remix of their song. "Let's not analyze what I just said! I don't want to be a complex boy!"
Faster than anyone could notice, they all started dancing before Patty leaped onstage with the two and joined in. "I can't tell if you're serious when you are so delirious! I'm just playing it baby, is that a yes, no or maybe?! YES!"
As the trio continued, Ford sighed sitting by the punchbowl. "I swear, youth is wasted on the young." he mused taking a sip. "Indeed, look at them so young and naïve." Azusa Yumi added standing next to him. "And yet sometimes I feel the adults are guilty of this as well, like your hobo friend for example." She then pointed to McGucket pigging out on finger sandwiches while Marie desperately tried to get Hiro & Mai to chat. "He's just too busy absorbing the entire buffet table."
"Now for your information Yumi, my friend is a scientific genius! He helped me build my portal and also constructed various machines that he mostly used to wreak havoc whenever someone wronged him!" Ford hotly argued. "And what do you have to accomplish, aside from being a Death Scythe?!"
"I actually helped defeat Asura for your information sideburns!" Azusa shouted back. "How so, did Death find a way to weaponize your bitc-" Ford prepared to insult right back at her before Dipper pulled on his leg. "Excuse me for a moment, great-nephew."
The two stepped into another room far from the festivities when Ford finally decided to ask what was up. "So what did you pull me aside for?" he wondered. "It's about Asura." Dipper sternly answered crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes. "Is it true that you've been told about his relationship with Lord Death & Kid yet didn't tell anyone else about it?!"
"Look, Death has sworn me to keep this secret; and I'm not the only one either!" Ford exclaimed. "Tons of people were in on it, Stein, Spirit, Sid, the other Death Scythes, even Excalibur!" he added. "The last one I know about, but seriously! Remember the last time someone kept a secret from the rest of their family? The entire universe was nearly destroyed!" the boy argued. "Twice even, all because Stan made the stupid decision of ruining your science project!"
"I'm not even sure Stanley was the one who broke it! He said he fixed it yet when I presented it, it was an utter mess!" Ford yelled. "And speaking of family, you don't have to bring Stan into this especially after we just lost him yesterday!"
"Gee, this is totally sounding familiar!" Dipper screamed. "Someone keeps a dark secret from their family which tears them all apart!" Suddenly they heard a knocking on the door before it slightly creaked open. "Mabel, I can see you from the other side. Come on in."
"You too Blair." Ford added and Blair stepped into the room carrying an exhausted Mabel in her arms. "I'm sorry Dipper, I couldn't keep singing forever!" she panted before being dropped on the floor. "But silver lining, everybody loved it when I sang with Black Star and Patty."
"You heard everything, didn't you?" Dipper asked folding his arms. "Yeah pretty much! And I gotta say, what a twist!" Blair answered brightly. "I mean, the whole 'villain is secretly related to the hero' thing has been done everywhere, yet I still didn't see it coming!"
"So was that the reason why you told me to sing? You could've easily done without it." Mabel asked. "I know sis, but that still was a good distraction." Dipper replied spreading out his arms. "Awkward sibling hug?"
"Awkward sibling hug." Mabel accepted and they hugged before saying "Pat pat!" in unison. "Dipper, I am truly sorry about not telling you about Death and Asura beforehand." Ford apologized getting down on a knee. "Let's promise that there be no more secrets within our family, no ifs ands or buts!"
"No ifs ands or buts indeed!" Dipper answered. "Now come on guys, the party's still going on!" he shouted walking back to the shindig. Ford and Blair soon followed behind, but not Mabel as she gazed at the wall. "Aren't you coming back with us Mabel?"
"I'll be with you in a bit." Mabel answered not even turning to her brother. She continued staring at the wall in front of her, still conflicted on whether her own secret should get out. On one hand, she'd finally get some closure but on the other, her family would be furious for her playing an important part in the beginning of a certain event.
"I will tell them, no matter what." Mabel solemnly declared, her fists clenched in determination before she turned around and returned to the party, adamant on her decision.
And that's it for this chapter! Now, I was originally going to end off on a fight between Dipper, Mabel & Wendy against Ox, Kim & Kilik, but then I decided to just reduce it to a scene where Ox challenges the three of them because the chapter was packed enough already until I finally decided to save it for next time. Speaking of which, next time Mabel gets stuck in the feels wringer as Kishin Cipher plots to drive the Pines apart for his own misdeeds. But just what does he have planned for her, and who knew emotionally torturing your favorite characters was so much fun?!
