my controversial opinion is that i like that laios is bigger and more muscular than kabru because, as a poc, buff brown guy x scrawny white guy is so popular and tired, i like it whenever there’s a subversion of it from a work that’s well written. of course, not to mention that they have a very fun dynamic and the comic from the new official world guide spelling out for everyone that they do care about each other lol
i like that kabru does look feminine, especially when fandom makes the brown one always the bigger and masculine one in fanon and any instance of their delicate features is erased, even in yuri (looking at gwitch lol)
speaking of, i really like kikimari in that namari is portrayed as very masculine while kiki is feminine and elegant in fanwork
obviously, fandom isn’t activism duh, but i’m merely speaking from experience as someone who dabbles in both eastern and western fan spaces. i’ve seen it happen so many times that it’s become the staple so i love subversion that’s actually good

Anyway. Frustrated reminder that if artists pour time, energy, passion, thought, and skill into their piece, it’s their right to do whatever the fuck they want with it. Fandom is a playground and you can do what you want always

Soundwave Superior Back when I decided I wanted to get back into drawing transformers and interacting with the fandom, I decided to start off with attempting Soundwave. Now that it's been a bit over a year since then, I figured i'd be fun to do a redraw of the piece and compare how I'd draw it now :> Comparison under the cut

That time Nickelodeon gave the boys a little camcorder and had them film their own behind-the-scenes videos to promote the show

Watcher truly burnt through their audience's good will and tainted their brand with that 'goodbye YouTube' thing. We know this, obviously, the immediate aftermath was swift and unanimously negative. But wow, are the effects still being seen.
I just found out the new ghost files season premiered two days ago and I have seen no one talking about it on this site.
Shane and Ryan visit a haunted site where a ghost named Big Dick Tom is known for sticking his finger in peoples butts and they on camera ask for their soft little holes to be fucked to prove the existence of ghosts
AND NOTHING
one of the spirit boxes says the word Knot and I have not seen a single meme about it. On the werewolf fucker site!
another spirit box tells them to beg and after a pause they in sync go yeah. OK. Sure. And crickets. On the kink site?
I dunno maybe they'll earn people's trust again, but it is Wild and kind of sad to see such clear decline in fan enthusiasm
audience decline can happen for loads of reasons, usually quality decay or cast/creative changes. People have noted they've been enjoying the watcher iteration of the show less than ye olde buzzfeed days but they were still watching anyway!
this their BIG IP. but its (comparatively) dead in the water.
the question is
who's watching watcher?

Okay so lately I've seen two big discussions:
a) How content creators are "invading" fan spaces and interacting with fan content, and how they should know this isn't acceptable. How they certainly shouldn't interact with /neg content, especially in front of an audience, but even with positive things like fanart and memes they should keep it to themselves and either enjoy in silence or just stay away altogether
b) If you love a piece of art or a fic, comment on it! reblog it! Don't hide your appreciation in a private chat where the author never gets to see, here's a story about someone who decided to delete all their fics because they found out that they had a bunch of people enthusiastically chatting about them in a private discord but none of those people understood how much it means to an author or artist to get that kind of feedback directly
...Y'all seeing the problem here? Obviously, there is an extreme on each end of this spectrum. Yeah, I'm not a fan of a content creator taking fan content and using it to mock the fanbase (I'm looking at you, Steven Moffat) and obviously there is some discernment that authors etc need to have because if you read enough fic about your work there's a chance you can get accused of stealing ideas from your fans.
And at the other end, an author who finds out about a thriving discord screaming about their work but never gets any comments or direct feedback has every right to be frustrated and hurt by that. If they choose to stop writing for those "fans" then that is 100% their prerogative.
But you can't hold both extremes. You can't demand that CCs stay out of fandom spaces and never engage with the cringy or critical stuff -- fans put it out there to be seen, and CCs have every right to engage with things that are made about their content. And if you DO want to demand that, then you can't turn around and say "reblog, don't just like!" and "authors need your feedback! comments feed them! they deserve to know that you enjoyed what they put so much work into!"
The right to engage with people who read/view/enjoy your work doesn't go away when your audience reaches a certain perceived size. There is a nuanced conversation to be had about what's good for the mental health of a creator, and where fans can go too far, but generally speaking: if a fan puts it out into the world, there is literally no reason why the person they're a fan of should have to not engage. Creators who respect fandom hashtags and such are commendable, but that is not and should never be the expectation.
If you don't want someone to see it, don't put it on the internet, plain and simple.
Stop trying to gatekeep the people who gave you the storyworlds you're playing in to begin with. Sometimes they're going to be assholes about it, because humans are unfortunately like that. But that's their right, just like it's your right to create cringy memes and, shall we say, "wildly inventive" fic about the stories and characters you're borrowing from them. (And, important side note, it's also your right to stop being a fan of that franchise/person/concept if you don't like how they interact.)
Moral of the story: comment on fic, tag the art, and stop freaking out every time a CC sees your insane tier list that has their name on it.

I hate to be a massive Debbie downer/party pooper but I really don't like this idea of polyamorous shipping because Mothzilla is just too perfect for that kind of thing. Didn't you say some time ago you didn't like the idea of Mothra cheating on Goji and vice versa? Like when you drew Zeuszilla and said that unlike Zeus Goji is actually loyal to his wife haha.
(You can thank Miss Queen B's Monsterverse AU fanfic series for that. If you've read them you can understand why I don't like cheating/poly shipping)
i understand where you're coming from but i think it's worth saying
alternate polyamorous ship =/= a ship cheating on each other
i've always put down a delineation between these things - in my own main au of the kaijuverse, mothzilla is 'exclusive', or as close as you can get to that when we're talking about giant interspecies monster relationships. but i've also been very open about being a multishipping creature at heart, and don't view mothzilla as any less 'perfect' just because i play with the idea of another version of my personal au where they're open/poly. it doesn't take away from, or denigrate their baseline ship dynamic just because i'm willing to explore different dynamics i find interesting.
they wouldn't ever 'cheat' on each other, because they'd never do something outside the pairing without the other's consent. hope that makes sense

im not saying all of my posts are bangers, but its hard not to notice that posts i make about other companions easily break 100 notes no sweat, with the upper limit breaching 1k, to outliers of well over 4k, but whenever it's about wyll, it's crickets. i dunno, youre allowed to interact with anything you want to, and this isnt a call to reblog from me, specifically, this is the same for a lot of wyll orientated posts ive seen, but its just odd. and by odd i mean racist.

What frustrates me most with the Watcher response is that it completely misses the point that people were also trying to say that we don’t watch Watcher because of fancy effects. We watch it because we like Shane and Ryan’s personalities. This is a lukewarm apology, fair enough and good enough, but it’s so frustrating that they missed the point.

i will say that about 80% of the discourse (and im talking the idiotic social media style discourse) in the iwtv fandom is perpetrated by people who don’t know how to safely and responsibly engage with the gothic horror genre and i don’t care if that comes across as pretentious because it’s true

tiktok asoiaf fans some of the weirdest to me, like there are people with entire channels dedicated to explaining the differences in the books to GOT fans, building themselves up as asoiaf experts….. only these users seem to have only really skimmed through the wikis cos they themselves keep getting the details wrong and like I’m really not trying to gatekeep this shit but like…. why would you take on the burden of explaining these ridiculously long books to thousands of people through dozens and dozens of videos if you just. don’t really know them that well
