Much as I love BG3 I really hate how the game treat platonic relationships as less than romantic ones.

And before someone comes at me this isn't a "game too horny" post. If you ask me the game isn't enough horny and especially not enough weird horny but that's beside the point of how it treats platonic relationships very badly and as inferior.

Like maybe it wouldn't make sense for you to go with every companion in every case if you hadn't romanced them but why the hell can't I go with Lae'zel to free her people just because I didn't romance her? Why can't I help Halsin rebuild Moonrise Tower and Reithewin just because I turned him down? Why the hell can't I kick up a fuss in the Underdark with Minthara because we didn't smooch? Or go traveling with Shadowheart or Astarion? While we're at it why does Astarion just run away if he's unromanced but appear the next morning if he is?

And these are only handful of examples. Like I could add how extremely different Gale is as a character in Act 3 depending on whether you're romancing him or not. Like it doesn't matter if you have high approval or built a good relationship with him otherwise. Only romance counts. Which really does seem to be the battle cry of this game when it comes to relationships.

This is what I mean when I say that BG3 consistently treat friendship as less important, less meaningful, than romantic relationships. I'm neither ace nor aro but man it really bothers me.

#i feel like teaming up with gortash as karlach might get you some pretty stellar lines #especially if it's a version of her that's become ruthless and pragmatic #no way he wouldn't appreciate that #to see someone go through hell and come out exactly the same way he did #it would really confirm his worldview #maybe he'd even be kind of proud #and then of course she would betray him in the end #i feel like it'd be funny to get him all the way to the morphic pool and then kill him at the last minute #i'm not even sure if you can do that mechanically but it's like... give him so much false hope only to dash it at the last possible moment #that's vengeance baby #and you don't even have to harm the steel watch so you can repurpose them for yourself #god i don't know if i have it in me to start this game over for a fourth time though. this soon.#maybe i'll just write fanfic about it #the weird thing about npcs also being playable characters is you can play them massively out of character #which feels off but also like well yeah they're player characters in that scenario so the player has to have the choice #otherwise what's the point #it feels different with durge because they're not there if you don't pick them plus you can customize their appearance #so they feel more your own #plus the memory loss easily explains any change in personality #but it is also fun to explore the idea of alternate path lines for these characters that would never happen if they're npcs #i also kinda wanna do an astarion orgin with a minthara romance because i've heard they're really good together #apparently minthara is highly turned on if he ascends. naturally.#and she starts calling him “lord astarion” totally unprompted haha #god an evil wyll run would be horrible too... fuck i bet you can do the mizora sex scene with wyll that's fucked up #oh god if you're evil karlach too imagine tricking wyll into betraying mizora for you only to turn out to be everything he feared you were #💔

okay while we're on the subject of supporting fanwork creators i would really encourage everyone to suck it up and start browsing tags! on desktop you can filter by post type so you can just select images if you're not interested in seeing people's textposts (though if you're looking for fic don't do that)

i've seriously found so many incredible pieces of art, beautiful screenshots and gifsets, and most importantly really amazing mutuals because of this feature. i've also had posts take off specifically because one person who has never interacted with me before reblogged it out of the tags!

#this is especially true with characters who dont get as much hype!!#most of the stuff you see me rb of the female companions comes direct from their tags #lesbians in the karlach tag i owe you my life #don't be scared it's honestly very rare to see a shit take if you filter properly

like the illithids were about to snatch laezel up and she went HALT i must procure my sharpening wheel and also this training dummy i made that looks like you first. you may now seize me.

#this has been happening for like TWO YEARS BUT I SWEAR TO GOD I AM TRYING.#my usual art motivation (my webcomic idea) has been put on hold for a bit and because of that i forgort... everything #my will to draw specifically #but in my defense i have been writing k*arlach / oc indulgences and i've been VERY focused on finishing it #i also got a marketing manager (my friend <3) to help with advertising my comms and stuff so uh... look forward 2 that #i might need to start posting all of my art on a sideblog so she doesn't have to log into my main though #so there might be some changes #but i promise i want to do art!!!! but there's always something to do first and then months pass :(#or i get the urge to draw and then life is like ''have a cancer scare'' lmao...#(ended up being cancerous actually </3 but because it's skin stuff it was easy to remove)#(but that really took the piss out of me for most of july... not to mention that ffxiv released a new expansion and i have been...#having a good time with my new friends doing content and stuff!) i also made a friend irl after like 3-4 years of total isolation #we feed ants and watch them move around together and comment on their behaviour patterns...#but like when i say this takes literal hours.#we just sit out there and talk about random shit and watch ants walk across the floor. both of us hate ants btw.#like we don't like having them ON us so it's a bit like playing with fire.#but anyways yeah i've also been really low energy recently too bc of the heat and burnout from college...#but the good news is that i'm transferring in fall to a much more relaxing college & courseload!#i'm hoping it'll stop me from feeling so... awful ?? i guess ??#like i was taking classes i didn't need to that were really difficult & punishing #not to mention extremely boring & hard to pay attention to when dealing with literally anything. i did not want to be there.#my next college is much more interest-oriented so i will finally be able to take classes i want to and learn from them...!#and then maybe i will feel a bit more in control of my life / more encouraged to draw #anyways thank u for reading my ramble. hoping it all comes together soon.#i need to do a lot of work but most of it is so i can sell commissions again #but once the karlach fic is done we're so back on the webcomic train !!!!!!!!

ok just watched a little video of the main BG3 characters (and some ?? others i’ve not seen u guys blogging abt) & their voice actors and like............ that was Not At All how i thought most of them were gonna sound oh my godddddddd

#i like shadowheart MORE now i think hearing her voice tied the vibes together in a way that finally Works for me #i was very 'BEYONCE???!!!?!' to see jk simmons in there but yeah okay that works #karlach and lae'zel are Fine i just expected....smth different. ig i was expecting any/all gith characters to have like...#idk they're meant to be from a totally ''alien'' plane of existence and also they're built Like That like. what do u mean they sound the sam #*same as everyone else ?? idk anyway #uhhh Halsin's voice is Fine but i kinda expected that sort of tone from Gale (but with the arrogance to it)#OH. okay if nere was never meant to be recruitable then why does he seem so recruitable? not only is it possible to break the absolute's hold on him and convince him to seek vengeance against the cult, but it's also possible to get him to give you a spider lyre and offer to team up with you just like minthara does. and if you comment that you've already made that deal with minthara, he'll state why he thinks you're better off teaming up with him. surely at some point this was meant to lead up to some kind of resolution?

#im trying out the durge playthrough and realised I always make ✨women✨#so i decided to make a man yet i still managed to make my tav too pretty.#mostly vanilla tavs too!! ( one of them does have modded hair now tho)#however because i have made a male durge tav rather than a female good tav i don't know if astarion coming on so strong to me all of a sudd #is because i've chosen a male or because i've chosen a durge playthrough.#i have not yet romanced astarion yet though (i'm a karlach and gale girly first) ...maybe now is the time.
