I don’t think I could explain in human words how much I HATE the stereotypes for Martin “The Spinners Little Boy” Blackwood.

The two main characterizations I’ve seen of him either make him a soft teddy bear who does nothing but make tea and cry, or the complete opposite and make him a blood thirty angst machine who is addicted to murder and trying to fuckinv idk break laws ( *cough* a certain yt creator *cough* )

NEITHER of these are good characterizations of him. Yes, they can be good characters, but not Martin.

Martin Blackwood is a character who grew up with a neglectful mother and a “family is blood” mentality, leaving himself to run himself ragged to take care of his only blood relation who wants nothing to do with him, ending in him with no choice but to fall into near poverty and the last choice to lie about his experience to get a half decent job. He is a character who cares so much with so little care thrown back at him. He is a character whose experience and surroundings leave him deep in isolation and loneliness. He his a character who had no choice but to learn how to manipulate himself into peoples perception as an innocent bystander with no fight, and when he’s given to chance to go all out and be vengeful for once he takes it, forcing his one trustful companion out of their comfort zone and nearly throwing their relationship off a cliff via murder.

He is a character so wrapped up in the story, that he ends up with no choice but to fall in the wreckage of his metaphorical and literal prison, holding the bleeding body of his reason for living after having to choose between his love and the world.

He is so much more than his stereotypes.

The Magnus Archives hits different when you’re in different stages in life. Just had my first day as a teacher. I’m 27 and some of my students are OLDER than me. I lowkey relate more to Jon’s anxiety over his Head Archivist role, and his bitchy attitude that came from it, than I did back when the show started and I was in my first year of college.

Martin’s anxiety is also more relatable now but if my boss sees this I want to clarify that I did NOT lie on my CV to get this position yes I DO have a masters degree I know I’m young please don’t fire me.

God. What if Pandora didn’t want to open the box. What if she was manipulated, her hands tied to and guided by strings she couldn’t shake off. What if when she released the horrors out into the world, Hope chose to stay with her, in the box. What if Pandora couldn’t rid herself of that guilt. What if Hope couldn’t convince her that not all was lost, and that she wasn’t responsible for the strings around her hands. That she wasn’t a monster.

What if Pandora and Hope found a way to trap everything in the box again. What if Pandora couldn’t do it. What if she didn’t want anyone else to feel the guilt she did. What if she thought that trapping the horrors in the box would just doom everyone into the same cycle. What if she felt she had to break it by bearing the suffering of everyone else. What if Hope tried to convince her that it could be better. What if she wouldn’t save herself. What if Hope had to kill Pandora for a chance to save everyone, including her. What if they both were sealed in the box. What if no one ever knew what happened to them. What if their last words to the world and to each other were “I love you.”

What if the world ending was never Pandora’s fault, but in her guilt and grief she blamed herself for it, and the Hope that voluntarily stayed by her side had to take her life to save it.

What if?

I just listened to the newest TMP episode and I’m one again thinking about Chester, Norris, and Colin.

Obviously Chester and Norris are on everyone’s mind being voiced my Jonny and Alex. Like we know our creators there’s no way there’s not at least a sliver of connection between these funky text to speech guys and the original Magnus Institute.

Even the first episode mentions The Magnus Institute and was voiced by Jonny oddly enough. I just think the obsession in that statement in particular and Sam’s reaction to it are very reminiscent of the original series.

Jon being the one to read the story about the institute is the first thing that jumps out, and then the one experiencing the institute being reckless and breaking so many rules of the chat board just *screams* the behavior of the first three archival assistants and their archivist. And Sam’s subsequent obsession with the story too, I mean this time it comes across as curiosity more than paranoia but that’s still so Jon of him to react in that way.

The statements read by Norris thus far just make me think of the connection even more. We all knew martin as the hopeless romantic of the two with his poetry and positive but determined outlook on the apocalypse in front of him, and to me these statements really capture that same feeling. His first statement being about doing anything to hear his lost loves voice again, even if it turned out to be a scam. Then episode three’s statement where the writer is so clearly decaying and falling away into the earth, and yet all he can focus on is when his love is coming back and when he’ll be able to see the sun again. It just feels so very Martin that both of these writers can’t help but to look for the light in their painful situations both literally and figuratively. Just. Like. Martin.

This is where Colin as a character and plot device becomes really interesting to me, because NO ONE knows as much about the computers and file system as much as he does. Admittedly, even he says it’s a shit show in there but still. If anyone is going to uncover the true origin of these voice bots or their connections to the statements it’s probably going to be him, or at least he’ll be the catalyst for it.

Even his own obsession and irritability with the app is so similar to that of Jon’s interest in the statements and entities of fear.

So my going theory is that later on, maybe by the end of the first season, there will be some connection established between Chester’s and Norris’s voice to what’s going on in the statements. Perhaps the Magnus institute will be mentioned again and Sam or Colin will find records of Jon, Martin, and the other characters from TMA. I would get even be shocked if the crew found some physical files (and the tapes ofc) which leads them to truly understand the weight of their work and the government organization itself.

Mentioning the tapes, the trope of the computers recording people like the tapes is definitely going to be a thing. Teddy not realizing his “station” is still on and recording in the first episode paired with Sam and Alyce’s faraway conversation in episode three make that very apparent to me. Hell, I wouldn’t be shocked if they cracked open a desktop and it’s just tape recorder components. It would at least explain the reason the technology is all over the place and why Jon and martins voices are contained in it. After all, the tapes followed Jon and Martin by the end of it was just completely tethered to him.

I also think Colin will be the first to die, sorry. And maybe it wouldn’t necessarily be a true death but given his attitude only three episodes in, I really do think he’ll be the first to be consumed by and/or killed by whatever the big bad is revealed to be this season.

lol does anyone else ever get annoyed when they’re on Wattpad looking for Derek Hale fanfic, and almost every time you see one he’s with a minor? I get my hopes up every time! I see one that sounds good based on the description, then I read the first chapter and a few sentences in it says the oc is either the twin of Scott or Stiles, or she’s best friends with the duo or Lydia…………….. like I get it, he’s only ( supposed to be) 19 in season one(but his age was always changing 🙄 which is another weird reason to pair him with a high schooler), but they were sophomores then. What in the hell does a 19 yr old want with someone who’s 15? And why do the parents never have an issue!!! Like I get it’s fanfiction, but come on………..
