There are a few places in mdzs where, in the midst of Wei Wuxian trying to placate him, Jiang Cheng says something so terribly, egregiously misrepresentative of Wei Wuxian and his morals that all Wei Wuxian can do is stare at him—like an adult realizing for the first time that the tantruming child they are attempting to calm may just be spoiled—before deciding to give up on the conversation. “Sure, Jiang Cheng,” he says, “it’s whatever you feel. It’s whatever you want.”

People like to say that the problem with the Yunmeng friendship is simply communication issues, but I think the real problem is that when true conflict happens between them, they both realize that they truly do not like each other. The difference is that Jiang Cheng reacts to this realization by trying to force Wei Wuxian into the shape that he wants, which is submission—“Do as I say! Listen to me! Obey me!”—while Wei Wuxian stands at the other end of the torched bridge he plans to never cross again and goes, “Sure Jiang Cheng, it’s whatever you feel, it’s whatever you want.”

I can’t stop thinking about Loop. Imagine doing everything, anything, to get out of a traumatic situation but the price is you. Your body is gone, your name is gone, your family doesn’t recognize you, you feel like most of your memories of them are gone too anyway. Suddenly you’re denied your identity. One of my favorite things about voxval is how open they are to each other. They are a freak4freak relationship and they know it, so they don’t usually feel the need to hide things. Whatever’s on their mind, a niche kink they want to try out, some minor thing that pissed them off—they’re free to yap without worrying it will make the other person think worse of them, because they already know what they signed up for. The one thing they are quieter about is how much they love each other, and to me that is just so delicious, so juicy. Is it because of pride? Not wanting to have a weakness in such a dog-eat-dog world? Denial? Fear of looking foolish if it all was just a game/fling to the other person? Answers may vary depending on the flavor of voxval but they all have so much potential! The tv x moth ship has taken over my brain.

Very interesting that Cotl official twitter called the goat a ‘dark reflection’ of the Lamb…..because the Lamb themself is already a subversion of what connotations lambs and sheep have in a lot of societies: purity, meekness, submissive/natural followers etc etc…..The Lamb has been shown to be cruel and unconcerned with objections to their cult leadership and the unsavory things they do (outside of punishing those who do object), thwarting expectations of what a meek little sacrificial lamb should be, so I’m unsure what they mean—is it just aesthetically? What is the Goat capable of doing that the Lamb isn’t? Is it just attitude-wise?

The Goat, however, is an animal often maligned and associated with the occult, shadowy pagan tendencies (this, however, is primarily part of wider Christian oriented views. Other religious and spiritual practices will vary) and viewed as troublesome. If their subversion were to follow along thematically with the Lamb’s, I would expect that despite the Goat’s rough attitude and penchant for destruction, they would be more clear-eyed about the nature of the Lands of the Old Faith. Maybe not necessarily an absolute “good” person, but at least recognizing the harm they are committing and the rationalizations behind it, and perhaps disinterested in power unlike the Lamb. Idk. I just find these things #interesting
