Personally, I don’t think Larian employees (or any employee of any company tbh) should be in fan-run discord servers. It feels very parasocial and can be unhealthy.

That being said….. I’m glad this whole Astarion/Durge writer situation happened and is bringing the blatant inequality for the other companions have content wise — especially Karlach and Wyll — to the forefront. This needs to be talked about more, and I’m so glad I’m seeing more and more posts about it. I get the appeal for Astarion because he’s the pretty elf “I can fix him” vampire, but he’s not the only companion. Larian needs to flesh out Karlach and Wyll more before they even think about moving to another game — and it better not be in the form of a DLC

Nothing more frustrating than having a dream set in an amazing book series and then waking up to find out it doesn’t exist. Guess I’VE gotta write this now

#it was so INTERESTING and vivid. i woke up like ‘i swear i’ve read this’ but it doesn’t actually exist #okay so the setting was this world where the moon has cracked in half (potentially due to human intervention idk)#the tides have gone super weird because of this #the majority of humans live at basically the tops of really really tall buildings. like at high altitude #at the lower levels; it’s just water. the lower down you go the humidity increases also #so as well as the humans who live at the top of the world there are vaporous species living at the mid level and there are mer-creatures #in the sea. god knows how agriculture works in this world. i know people had rooftop gardens #maybe everyone had adapted to a vegan diet or maybe there was trade with the mermaids to get fish. idk #anyway; the majority of my dream was concerned with this elite university academy and this one problematic student named alex #he had been sentenced to life imprisonment for basically insulting the government (this was a very totalitarian regime that had formed when #the world first cracked and everything went to shit)#but he would be able to get his sentence overturned if he took this one class (i think it was civics or politics or something #with a media focus) and basically created the best propaganda video imaginable #so they were basically requiring him to recant his claims publicly; endorse the government; and he had to do it so convincingly #that his video would be rated the best in the class #the other people in the class included these two sisters who also badly needed to pass in order to graduate #and a bunch of exchange students #also the sky is basically a television in this world #everyone is up so high that they can see the moon fractured in two and it’s Really close to the earth #but you can’t see much else in the sky. so they were doing shit like beaming everyone’s class schedules and syllabi and lists of what you #need to buy for class directly into the sky #i don’t know if i’m selling it but it was so INTERESTING. i was really annoyed when i woke up and realised i couldn’t actually read this #because it doesn’t exist #APPARENTLY i have to write it. which is worrying because i’m not at all good at worldbuilding. but honestly the dream was so vivid #i can basically just.. take it and expand on it very slightly #i think what interested me was the backdrop of this elite university that all the kids of rich family go to vs the obvious reality #of this world; where there is food scarcity and very little diversity of habitats. and a dictator #personal

this twitter thread really got to me. because yeah. it is a torment and it is a blessing, and the reward comes from struggling through pinning down the vast expanse of your imagination to the written word. the self is inherent to the process. the way we experience the world influences how we describe it in language and how we organize it into something told linearly.

yeah. I care about writing stories so much. I care about how I tell them and the way I tell them because the process is what makes the story. somewhere between all the floating plot points in your head and the trying to put it into the right words in the right order, the life essence of the story generates itself.

to surrender the process to something that does not experience the magnificent struggle of being alive is a tremendous loss.

#I have never been a fan of the idea of ai art. it feels like a diminishing of our humanity if I’m being (only slightly) dramatic about it #but idk man the thought of normalizing ai writing is particularly egregious to me #I would legitimately be worse off as a person if I had never written fiction #there were some things that I don’t think my emotionally illiterate teenage self could have recognized well enough to discuss w/anyone #but which made themselves apparent to me through the fiction writing I did #even now getting a piece of paper or my notes app and just going is one of the best methods for me to figure out the root of a funk #being able to express *yourself* through language is so so so important. we can’t give it up.#I am grabbing you all by the shoulders. do not give it up.#eve talks #writing

i got the okay from my professor to write historically accurate fanfiction about witches in the 1500s for an assignment and i’m trying to figure out a way to write about the Wittebane brothers without making it too obvious or based too much/little in toh universe…….

#like i can’t just state that there’s a whole different joyous dimension that witches come from cause that’s not how it acctually happened #unless you mean Hell but that’s still not really correct #in the Middle Ages in Central and Anglo Europe there was definitely some belief of an Other World where magical beings can come from #but humans practicing magic goes back and forth of being tolerable to executable #and the time period i’m dealing with here is not so happy go lucky hehe fun witches #if Evalene didn’t have a portal to go back to or weaponry magical powers then she would’ve been caught and hanged lol #‘real’ witches were accused of playing offence rather than defense #what we see as objectively defensive acts (resisting torture or not answering questions)#were taken as offensive attacks on God and community #Phillip Wittebane would have a blast as an inquisitor and scribe in court. he loooved manipulation and torture #toh #i should post my previous writing assignment cause apparently (according to my friends who i read it aloud to) it’s really well written lol #it’s about a gay woman falling in love with a feminine spirit and using magic to call upon her and run away with her #anyways

also mom was running down some of the drama she’s been experiencing for years in her high school wechat group, and it is… astounding how terrible her self-proclaimed rival is at social chess. well first of all, they didn’t even know each other in high school? they weren’t in the same class? mom says they never talked before so she doesn’t know why this other woman is so obsessed with her, but this woman has been going to all of mom’s close friends and sending messages just slandering mom’s character and talking about how mom’s obsessed with attention and a terrible person and whatever ANYWAY. oh, warning for death, but like, a while ago one of mom’s close friends had a husband who passed, and this lady offered mom’s friend condolences, and mom’s friend was like ? I don’t know this person? and a little bit after this lady asked mom’s friend to have lunch and this lady was like ‘oh you shouldn’t be friends with that woman’ blah blah and it’s just. HER HUSBAND DIED????? YOU’RE TRASHING THIS WOMAN’S FRIEND TO HER FACE AFTER HER HUSBAND DIED???? AND SHE DOESN’T KNOW YOU???? AND HER HUSBAND *JUST* DIED????? and she keeps doing this too, like, going to mom’s close friends and trying to get them against mom but since they’re *mom’s close friends* they just send screenshots of the convo to mom and go like ‘hey so this happened’. she even, like, had a dinner or something with people and made them swear to never talk to mom ever again (one of the people there immediately messaged mom with a picture of everyone there and A DIFFERENT guy had lunch with mom on a trip to the US) (mom directly confronted him like ‘so what about the promise to never speak to me again’) (LMAO???) anyway this lady’s high school ex is apparently one of the heads of the organizers for the high school group (?) and mom had a dinner with him a while ago so she’s apparently holding onto a photo of them meeting up in case she, and I quote, “wants to toss a bomb into the groupchat”

A bad person and/or bad at my job btw. like how can i so loudly refuse to learn and complain about learning and yet be an ambassador for / cocreator of a thriving denoceacynwhen learning is at the core of it. and when i literaly work in education and am a teacher or some shit. idk.

#purrs #i don’t even know how to articulate my thoughts. which is the problem. i used to be good at things like this but in the last few years i #just… struggle to read and write in ways that are understood by other people. like scholarly ways 💀 LOL. i don’t understand my readings but #refuse to go to the writing center and get help or whatever the fuck. and i struggle to write papers in academic voice (though not visibly t #to my professors apparently). idk. i just am so miserable. it doesn’t work for my brain. i did this to myself and i don’t have to be but i #have to be because i can’t bear being small and left behind. i don’t know. when i get like this which is all the time i can’t explain #anything well. i don’t want to read these chapters even though they’re important i want to play video games and rest. and i want to learn #about these thi ng s by doing them and experiencing them and not having to take them home and have it cut into my precious free time. godddd #but like would someone who is truly a champion of this kind of thing… feel that way. like shouldn’t i want to read shit like this and be s #seeking it out myself. idk. my brain is full of mental illness spikes rn and i have to push through it and just do the damn assignment #delete later
