Takemiya Keiko interview about Kazeki OVA (1987)
Here's another short interview from platypus's stack of old magazines with cool interviews: Takemiya Keiko talks about Kaze to Ki no Uta Sanctus: Sei Naru Kana in the 1987 December issue of Puff.
Translation is under the cut, and please let me know if you spot my mistakes.

Kaze to Ki no Uta – OVA is finally on sale!
Takemiya Keiko Interview
“It will not ruin your image of the work, so please watch it!”
Let us first hear your thoughts on finishing this project.
Mr. Yoshikazu was sitting at the director’s chair. That alone assured me that everything would go smoothly, and I left everything to him. He read the manga thoroughly and gave the work his own interpretation. I had nothing to worry about. I didn’t have to ask him not to do a certain part in a certain way, or to avoid including too many “risqué” scenes. I can feel that he gave the work the treatment it deserves. Even the animation style was not too flashy and anime-like. The movements were more orthodox. Everything worked out perfectly, so I have nothing to say.
The background art was amazing. Did you ask them to draw them that way?
Both Mr. Yoshikazu and I thought that she’d be a  good fit, and suggested having the same person who was the art director for “Natsu e no Tobira”, but we couldn’t get a hold of her. We found out the reason later: The producer thought she was too slow, and we should give up on working with her (laughs). But when we said that she was the only person who could draw the backgrounds, she was hired to work in the project. However, she was too late to turn in the drafts. We really were in a tight spot. She might have been slow, but she really is an artist. When she can’t draw something, she just can’t. She gave it her all… Even though it was something that’d only be on screen for two seconds… If we couldn’t ask them to do something, I said I should go ahead and do it myself.
So, I gather that you drew some key animation yourself. Are manga and anime too different to draw for?
Both mediums are used basically to capture “movement,” so I think they are the same. You go with the flow, trying to capture “movement”… You think about how original you can express it. That’s a really fun undertaking. For example, even if it’s just a scene of a character turning to look back, if you strive to give it a little touch, you can really bring out an erotic feeling. That’s the stuff I’m talking about. If I had a lot of money, I would dabble more in in-between animation. I now understand why Otomo Katsuhiro-san was so obsessed with it (laughs).
I’ve seen the OVA. It felt like reading one of your works.
Do you think so? I didn’t ask him to do it, but to keep close to the atmosphere of the original work, Mr. Yoshikazu outlined the key points. He put the same things as my drawings in those scenes. But if you looked closely, you could tell that they were different. When I saw the whole thing, I thought wow, it’s the same!” However, upon closer inspection, I found out that such scenes did not exist in the original. I even thought maybe something was wrong with me. The same also goes for the lines. “Did he ever say that? He might have said that…” But when I re-read, I see that no such line was uttered. I had so many moments like that.
What was the fans’ reaction to this OVA adaptation?
When I said it was happening, I received an equal amount of positive and negative reactions. Well, that’s only to be expected. So, like I thought, only when I said that Mr. Yoshikazu was the one directing it, I saw the real opposition. The animation director was decided on, but the VAs weren’t cast yet. When news of the production got out, I received letters saying “it’s too late, I give up!” (laughs) They said stuff like, “Here we are, so against this idea, but you still say that you’ll do it! I don’t care anymore!” I can say that there are people who definitely won’t watch it. It makes me happy to see the work being loved that much, but when people are that obsessed with it… It’s kind of scary. I sometimes go as far not seeing it as something I myself created. But well, there are still a lot of people who say “I might cry and whine, but I’ll still watch it.”
Can we have Ms.Takemiya, the creator herself, do some advertisement for the OVA?
The OVA didn’t embarrass me, so I’ll keep promoting it. I don’t think it’ll ruin your image of the work. But I know that there are people who are too nitpicky and say stuff like the lines of a character’s profile is kind of off and they hate it, or that their legs are too thin  or that their feet look weird (laughs). In that sense, we paid extra attention to the movement itself and tried to animate the characters in a natural manner. “The Poem of the Wind and the Trees” makes you think of subtle movements, right? We can’t have them move too briskly, and even the fight scene is nothing too serious. Because Mr. Yoshikazu didn’t want to create too vivid of a scene. Rather, he didn’t want it to stink of “masculinity” that much. And people who’ve only seen the character designs might think that they look nothing like the manga, but when they are in motion, they do look like their manga counterparts. As for the voice of the characters, I don’t know the actress of Gilbert, but we have Nobita-kun for Serge (laughs)! People who are into anime will recognize her voice, so they might be a little bit of put off by that, but she doesn’t sound like Nobita-kun here. Not at all! The more you listen to her acting, the more you enjoy it! There are parts that reflect Serge’s character, so I’m really content with the result.
Can we consider this as “episode 1” of a series? Do you have plans for a continuation?
If this OVA sells, it might happen. If this one gets a positive reaction, I think we can make another one. The producer said that’s what he thought would happen. If you ask Mr. Yoshikazu, he says it’ll be at least 6 episodes long, but I doubt that. I can’t bring myself to believe that we can make that many episodes. Anyway, to think that we won’t be working with the staff who brought it to life with such resemblance feels so sad. But I also think that if we ask them to do it again, they’ll simply run away (laughs). We’ve already done Yoshikazu-san’s favorite part right off the bat, so what remains is the hard part. He says he can’t decipher a character like Augu (laughs). Maybe another director might do better.
And what about the future of the story in manga?
There’s the stuff about marriage and children problems, how to reach enlightenment, and everything in-between until Serge’s death. But even if I drew that, that would have no meaning for people who are only here for what Gilbert and Serge had (laughs). I don’t have any plans to draw any continuation for the moment, but one day, if I ever get the chance… If the are conditions right, I think I’d like to draw it.
Can we have your final message for Puff readers?
Watch the OVA. Please do it. I believe that if you watch it once, all of your worries will be washed away.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but, like, is your nightmare atleast... Good in close combat Or like... He can get knocked out easily?
With "close combat" I mean that he can't use His tentacles and, and he's gotta punch and kick and the only thing he can have with him that won't trigger the conditions of the term of "close combat" is a knife or smth like that
Btw, you're very talented, and I love reading your comics, seeing your drawings and the way you explain your interpretation of each character everytime someone wants to know anything about them <3
(I saw your post and I'm kinda worried for murder lmao, did he get his ass wooped after saying that?)
Not at all this is a very good question actually!
And the answer is no, he absolutely sucks at close combat, my Nightmare has a problem with his legs, so using them in violent/ aggressive activities is absolutely out of the question, he can use his hands just fine but even if his legs weren’t giving him trouble, he never truly fought close and personal ever in his life, so he lacks the skills and experience, he mostly keeps his distance, he can get close sometimes, but only if he’s planning on a quick retreat to a distance again
He heavily relies on his tentacles, aura, and shapeshifting abilities in combat, he’s really fast too, so even if someone got close he can easily dodge and put distance again, but he never actually goes for close combat ever, and I try to show that when Nightmare gets weakened enough to not be able to use his tentacles or move much out of the way Nightmare immediately tries to rely on underhanded tactics to get out of trouble
And thank youuuuu, super happy to know! <3333
(Funny enough I actually have two pages after that I made, but they were for fun in my corner of “never sharing this” but since you asked, I might as well share them, they both absolutely got punished unfortunately for them shdhhdhdh)

Stray Kids x reader
Requested by anonymous: so ihave this request that is like an queendom x kingdom, and y/n is an idol (in other group) i know is short but i really wanted to see what would your imagination feed us.
Queendom and Kingdom were combined for a spin-off show that you were lucky enough to be a part of. Your group had been one of the few chosen for this highly-anticipated show.
“Practises are today.” The girl next to you puckers her lips, staring at her reflection in the mirror. “Is your group ready yet?”
“Uh, yeah.” You fidget in your seat as your cheeks are swiped over with blush. As soon as your makeup is finished you slip off the stool and go off to your group.
“Remember,” your leader is saying, gaze firm and arms crossed. “Everything rests on this moment.”
You linger in the back of the group, not wanting to draw attention to yourself. You always felt awkward around then for some reason.
It’s probably just your imagination.
“We’ve been struggling lately, and this is a good chance to prove ourselves.” Your leader smiles, sickly-sweet as she looks over at you. No mistakes.”
Your stomach twists with nerves.
At a recent event that was live-streamed, you had tripped. You don’t know what you tripped on, but you had. You had fallen during the performance, causing the rest of the members to stop everything.
Your company wasn’t pleased. Neither were your other members.
You follow the rest of your group into a dance studio. You spend the next hour running through a choreography for your performance, something that will lead to a media recovery.
Your only problem is how little you have to do. You understand that you might not be the best dancer, or the best singer, or might not even be as pretty as the other girls.
But standing at the rear like a backup dancer? They’re not using your abilities like they should, and you know you can do better. You know that the tripping in that other performance was a one time thing.
But you start to doubt it as more time goes by and no progress is made. The others are struggling with the more difficult movements, and your steps are too simple.
But when you add more flair to it, you get told to stop being so flashy.
“You’re taking the attention from the front,” the choreographer complains. He sighs and waves a hand at you. “While we figure this out, go fill the water bottles.”
You, taken aback by the humiliating request, frown. “What?”
“He told you to do something!” a girl in your group snaps at you. “Just do it!”
You’re handed all of their water bottles and awkwardly juggle them as you go down the hallway. You manage to find the water station and hold each bottle under the tap one by one.
You hear a gasp of your name and ignore it. When people talk shit about you, you push it aside and cry about it when you’re by yourself.
Then someone is tapping your shoulder, and you hesitantly turn around.
“Yes?” you warily ask before realizing who it is. It’s fucking Seungmin. Seungmin, from Stray Kids, is in front of you. “What the shit.”
He blinks at you. “I’m sorry?”
You gasp and cover your mouth. “I’m so sorry! Pretend you didn’t hear me swear! Please!”
Seungmin smiles gently at you, something akin to amusement flashing in his eyes. “It’s okay. I make fun of JYP all the time. I won’t ruin your idol image.”
You grin. “Yeah, I know.” You pause before attempting a recovery. “I mean- Who are- Who’s- I’m JYP.”
Seungmin’s smile widens even further, and it infects you with joy. You’re both just standing, beaming at each other like idiots.
“Can I get a photo with you?” You both blurt it out at the same time before sighing in relief.
“Why do you want one with me?” you question as he pulls out his phone. You smile into the camera and pose with him.
“Because you’re cool,” he replies simply before making hearts with his fingers for your photo. “Obviously.”
You feel heat rise to your face at his words. “Oh. Thank you. That means a lot.”
Seungmin’s head tilts. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be training right now?”
You fiddle with your hands anxiously. You’ve never liked explaining the dynamics between you and the other members of your group.
“Someone had to refill the water bottles,” is what you finally say. You motion to them, almost forgotten on the ground.
Seungmin nods slowly. “Sure, I guess. Do you have some free time to come meet the rest of us then? We’re kind of fans of yours.”
You can hardly believe it. Stray Kids are fans of you.
“Sure.” You shrug casually. You should run back to the rest, but you do want to meet them. “I have time.”
Seungmin helps you carry the bottles down the corridor, dodging other idols. You reach a studio with a closed door, and Seungmin knocks on it with his foot in the form of a hard kick
Changbin answers it, eyebrows pulled together in annoyance. “You have hands, idiot- Oh. Oh!”
“My hands are full,” Seungmin grumbles, holding up the bottles. “Get out of the way, loser.”
Changbin’s wide eyes are still locked on you. He steps away, letting you and Seungmin pass.
You flash him a warm smile, bowing slightly. Changbin returns it as if he can’t believe you’re here.
“Omg,” Jisung says, covering his mouth.
“I can’t believe you just said ‘omg’,” Hyunjin drawls from where he’s on the floor. He has his arms covering his face.
“Hello.” You wave to the rest of the room. Everyone is just watching you and you’re frankly uncomfortable with their gazes all being on you.
“Hi,” Chan coughs out. “What are you- What are you doing here?”
You adjust your stance, looking to Seungmin uncertainly. “He said you guys would want to meet me? And honestly I’m a big fan, so I didn’t mind coming here.”
“You’re a fan of us?” Felix asks in amazement.
“I can’t believe you’re a fan of me.” You laugh lightly. This whole day has taken a bizarre turn.
Hyunjin sits up, jaw dropping. “Stay is going to be so jealous. Can we post photos of us with you?”
You shrug casually. “Yeah. Go ahead.”
So you’re swarmed by them all taking photos in various poses with you. Jeongin is shy when he comes up to you, but quickly warms up to you and even asks you to record a video with him.
“I’m sorry, but I should go back to the others.” You grimace before smoothing out your expression into a pleasant one. “It’s been great meeting you.”
Chan hums softly. “You’re welcome back anytime. We know what we’re doing so we’re just fine-tuning. We have plenty of spare time.”
You smile and nod before putting all of the bottles back in your arms. It’s difficult to carry them all, but you make do.
When you return to the studio your group has been assigned to, they’re wrapping up. You linger in the doorway, unsure of what to do with yourself.
“There you are!” The choreographer puts his hands on his hips. “Come here.”
You set the water bottles down before rushing back to him. “Yes?”
“We’ve decided to remake your part,” he casually tells you. “I’ll show you it, and then you’ll memorize it and have it ready to go by tomorrow’s rehearsal.”
You freeze, watching him demonstrate the new dance. It’s definitely more complicated than the one you had previously been assigned, and you hesitate.
“Are you sure?” you carefully say.
“Oh, and you’re in the front now.” He wipes his hands on his pants. “You have it memorized? I also have a video of it set up on the laptop over there. You know the lines already too.”
“Yeah.” You blink back frustrated tears. “I’ve got this.”
The rest of the group shuffled out the door, wiggling their fingers goodbye at you. You stare numbly at them as you’re left alone in the studio.
You press play on the speakers and focus on singing for now. You’ve never sang this part before, and it’s a bit out of your range.
But you’re confident enough that you can do this, and nail it. You know you sound amazing, so you move on to the dance.
The movements are tricky, especially the hand gestures. They’re complicated enough that you have to just work on them for a minute.
“You look busy.”
You whip around to find Hyunjin hovering near the entrance. You click the pause button and take a swig from your bottle.
“What are you still doing here?” Hyunjin pulls out his phone and checks the time. “It’s midnight. You’ll be exhausted for rehearsals tomorrow.”
You stretch out your legs. “No, I’ll be fine. I just- I have to do this.”
Hyunjin settles on the ground, leaning against the mirror. “Show me then.”
You falter. “Sorry?”
Hyunjin crosses his legs at the ankles and folds his hands in his lap. “I’ll give you some feedback. Then you can go get some rest sooner.”
You nod. “Sounds good.” You press play on the music and go through the dance, singing along. Your voice echoes weirdly in the room, but you know on stage it will sound good.
When you finish, you pant and slide down against the wall to the floor. “Well?”
Hyunjin tilts his head at you. “It was excellent. And… Weird.”
“Weird? What’s weird?” you anxiously ask.
Hyunjin runs a hand over his shaved head, hand not catching on any hair. “It just… It matches perfectly with our choreography. I know we’re not supposed to talk about it before the show, but it’s almost identical.”
You frown as he gets to his feet. “Really?”
Hyunjin shows you his, and sure enough it goes alongside yours almost perfectly. He considers it for a moment before shaking his head. “I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.”
You adjust your stance. “I’m not sure. Doesn’t your group go first, with mine after? It would look like we’re copying you.”
Chan knocks on the doorframe, clearing his throat. “Hyunjin. You should be in bed by now at the dorms. It’s a big day tomorrow.”
“Take a look at this.” Hyunjin points at you, so you awkwardly show Chan your dance as well.
Chan’s eyes widen. “Hyunjin! Why did you teach her our-“
“That’s hers,” Hyunjin interrupts. He begins to pace. “But you thought it was ours, which means that the audience would think they copied us, which means-“
You cough. “I’m sure there was just a misunderstanding with the choreographer. He probably just studied closely with yours, and it came out the same. Big coincidence.”
“We made ours.” Chan shakes his head. “There’s no way that’s what happened.”
You shuffle, unsure of what to do now.
“Let’s just deal with this in the morning.” Chan sighs and rubs at his face tiredly. “We’ll walk you to your group. Or van I guess.”
“That’s nice, but I’m okay.” You smile warmly. “They left already and took the van with them.”
“So how are you getting to your dorms?” Hyunjin questions, exchanging a look with Chan.
You chew the inside of your cheek. “I usually just walk if I’m not far, or sleep at the studio. It’s not bad. I can sleep in weird places.”
“She sleeps at the studio like you do.” Hyunjin shoots Chan a filthy expression. He rounds back on you. “We’ll give you a ride.”
You yawn, covering your mouth with your hand. “Really? You don’t have to.”
“No, it’s fine.” Chan tugs at his jacket, pulling it tighter around his body. “Come on.”
You trail after them, holding your water bottle. You make sure to flick the lights off before you leave.
“Felix!” Hyunjin yells. “We’re going!”
Felix darts out from an empty room, eyes locking on you. “What’s she doing here?”
“We’re giving her a ride,” Chan briefly explains. He fishes his keys out from his pocket.
When you exit the building and go outside, Hyunjin screams, “Shotgun!”
Felix groans and crosses his arms. He glances at you and brightens. “Guess we get to sit together!”
Chan unlocks the vehicle and everyone scampers inside. Hyunjin snickers at Felix, who has to sit in the back.
You tell Chan the address and rest your head against the window as Felix eagerly rambles on. You barely catch what he’s saying, too tired to really focus.
Then you’re asleep, and your head rolls onto Felix’s shoulder. His entire face turns red and he reaches up to poke at Hyunjin.
“What, backseat loser?” Hyunjin grumbles.
“She’s asleep,” Felix whispers. “What do we do?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You wake the next morning to silence. It’s odd. Usually there’s frantic racing to get ready and people slamming on your door.
But it’s quiet with the sunlight filtering through your curtains.
You slip out of bed and tap the screen of your phone, heart sinking when you realize it’s almost nine. You dash out of your room, urgently tugging your pants on. You knock on people’s doors before skidding to a halt.
Why were you the only one in your room when you woke? Why are there dirty dishes piled up next to the sink?
There’s a note on the fridge, kindly informing you of your removal from the performance. The others are worried that you won’t be able to be ready in time.
So you’ve been ‘transferred to a backup dancer for another group or something.’
Temporarily, they added, but you have a sick feeling that it’s not. That this is your new normal.
You sit on the couch, sighing heavily. You notice ink on your forearm, and since you can’t remember last night-
“I got a tattoo?” you shriek in alarm. You feel dizzy as you look at your arm.
It’s not a tattoo, thankfully. Instead, someone has written a number with a marker.
Last night comes rushing back, so you type the number into your phone and dial.
It rings once before Chan’s voice meets your ear.
“Hello?”
“Hey.” You greet him maybe too casually, but you’re not a morning person. “Why did you give me your number?”
“So I can add you to our group chat.”
You pause. “What? Why?”
“Because… you’ll be working with us? Did you not know that you’ve been signed over to our group?”
The dizziness has returned.
“What?” you rasp. “I’ve been what?”
There’s silence before Chan speaks again. “Okay, so I’m assuming you didn’t know.”
You close your eyes, fighting the light-headedness. “This is a lot. Chan, I think I’m going to pass out.”
“Don’t pass-“
Then you’re unconscious.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chan curses and puts his phone down, causing Minho to glance up.
“What’s wrong?” he asks with mild concern as he places own phone in his lap.
Chan’s lips thin into a tight smile. “Get the others. We have to go pick her up.”
Minho shrugs and stands, wandering off. Chan grabs a first aid kit from under the sink and stuffs it into the van. When the others climb inside he starts up the engine and tells them everything.
“So, she’s been transferred to us.” Chan’s grip tightens on the wheel. “She had been taught our choreography so it would be an easier transition for this performance and-“
“So you knew the whole time?” Hyunjin demands. “And you didn’t say anything?”
“No!” Chan looks in the rearview mirror at him. “I got the email this morning that explained everything. I’m as shocked as you are.”
“Can’t believe they just gave her up,” Changbin mutters.
Seungmin sighs and drums his fingers on his thigh. “Why is there a first aid kit?”
Chan shifts in his seat. “She might’ve passed out.”
Jisung gasps. “Oh no! Is she okay?”
“Well that’s why we’re going over,” Chan says in exasperation.
Jeongin puts his hand up. “Dibs for CPR.”
Felix frowns at him. “I don’t think that’s how it works. I think you have to be trained to actually do it.”
Hyunjin snorts in amusement. “Right. I do it all the time.”
Chan side-eyes him. “Excuse me? Who are you giving CPR to so often?”
Hyunjin narrows his eyes. “That’s none of your business.”
Chan lets it go, having arrived at your dorms. Hyunjin had watched you put the code in last night, so he presses the buttons and the gate slides aside.
Changbin busts the door down and they all charge inside, holding various tools from the first aid kit.
You blink at them, holding a wet towel to your forehead. “What- How did you get in here?”
“We’re here to give you CPR,” Jisung blurts out.
You scowl. “Ew. Yeah that’s not happening.”
“Hey, you could do a lot worse than him!” Jeongin defensively says. He bats his eyes at you. “Heyyyy.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. “I can’t believe I’m in Stray Kids now. This is insane
“We’re cool.” Seungmin puts an arm around Hyunjin’s shoulder before shuffling to the side awkwardly once Hyunjin shrugs him away.
“Yeah I know. I’m not upset about being here now.” You grin at them. “I’ve been a fan for a while. I’m just… getting used to such a big change.”
“And we’ve been your fan for a while.” Minho rolls out his wrist. “But we have to get to rehearsal. Are you in or out?”
You toss the wet cloth at the sink, leaving it with the dirty dishes. Someone else can deal with it. “Let me grab my things and then I’m ready to go.”

Bus Stop (Part 4)
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Tumblr media
Nic: Good morning
You grabbed your phone from your nightstand before you had even fully blinked the sleep from your eyes. A message from Nic was waiting for you. You giggled and kicked your feet in excitement as you held your phone to your chest. Last night wasn't just a dream, after all.
You: Morning!
Your fingers typed wildly.
You: You're quite the early bird.
Relunctantly tossing the warm covers away from your body, you got out of bed to start your morning routine, bringing your phone along so as to not miss anything. As you leaned over the sink to brush your teeth, you felt it vibrate on the tile counter. Just seeing his name on the screen made your heart beat a little faster.
Nic: I try to start the day with a run or bike ride. Just got back inside. Gotta hop in the shower and get ready for class. What time is your lunch break?
Blood rushed to your cheeks at the thought of him being soaked in sweat or lathered up in soap. Too soon, you cautioned yourself. Thank goodness he couldn't see you.
You: Usually at noon, unless a mtg runs long.
Nic: K. I'll give you a call on my way to the station, if that's OK?
You bit your lip. How to sound positive but not TOO eager...
You: Yes, please :)
The morning crawled and meetings droned on and on. Several times you caught yourself daydreaming, staring out the window or drawing abstract shapes on your paper instead of taking notes. As the clock ticked closer to noon, your knee bounced under your desk in nervous excitement, impatiently waiting for your phone to light up.
Like clockwork, your phone buzzed in your hand at 12:00 on the dot as you ran out to the rear courtyard for a semi-private spot to talk.
"You are quite punctual," you answered. Nic chuckled.
"I've been holding my phone in my hand just staring at it for a solid two minutes waiting for the right time. How has your day been?"
"Oh, [nervous laughter] I'm not exactly sure. I spent most of the morning off in la-la-land. I had a little trouble paying attention."
"Funny you should say that. I had the same problem in class."
"Oh, yeah? What were you thinking about?"
"You first," he teased.
"No, you."
"Alright, since we're not in person to settle this with rock-paper-scissors like mature adults, how about we both say it on three?"
You laughed. "Ok. I can appreciate a good compromise. 1...2...3..."
"You."/"Last night."
"Really?"/"Really?"
There was an awkward pause that was probably not as long as it felt. You broke the silence.
"I was stoked to see your message this morning. Confirmation that I didn't dream the whole thing up," you admitted.
"I haven't had a fun evening out like that in ages. I...I felt like- like you were just so easy to talk to."
"I had fun, too," you replied. "I, uh...I dreamed about that kiss. It's been - a while - since I've been kissed like that."
"Me, too."
"Dream or a long time since the last?"
"Both."
"Awwwww!" you vocalized. "Well, you don't have to wait that long again." Your boldness startled you, so you started backtracking in a panic. "I mean, if, uh, that's what you want. Because that's what I want. I mean...," you trailed off and groaned as you smacked your forehead with your palm. "I'm going to shut up now."
"Please don't," Nic replied. "It's adorable when you ramble when you're flustered."
"You do seem to have that effect on me." The tops of your ears burned with embarrassment at your admission.
He chuckled. "So I've noticed."
After a beat of silence, you asked, "So, just curious, how long has it been for you? It's been just over two years for me."
"Almost four years. I've been trying to work on feeling whole on my own before getting involved with someone again."
"Kudos for putting in that work on yourself. My ex did not. He projected a lot of pent-up baggage onto me. I've been on a break since. It was toxic and lasted longer than it should have, and I've been in no rush to get mixed up with the wrong person again.
"But now?" Nic eagerly implored.
"Nowwwwww I think I could be persuaded by the right person," you hinted.
"Ah, I see." He paused. "[Y/N], I...," he cleared his throat. "Do you like Italian food?"
Somewhat taken aback by the jarring transition, you stuttered, "Y-yeah, I love Italian." You worried that you threw him off by mentioning your ex. Maybe it was too much too soon?
"There's this great place near the bus stop where I usually get on at Lexington and 1st. I was thinking we could go get a bite to eat tomorrow after work?"
Whew. Maybe you didn't scare him off after all. "That sounds delicious. I'd love that."
"Great! I'll meet you at the bus stop and walk you over. But for now, you should probably actually eat something on your lunch break. I just made it to the news station and need to go get settled in."
You pulled the phone away from your face to check the time. You only had about 10 minutes left. "Alas, responsibilities befall us all. See you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow. Bye, [Y/N]."
"Bye, Nic."
You ended the call and stared down at the dark phone screen in your hand. The fading excitement felt like you were crashing from a sugar rush. You slowly got up from the bench and shuffled back inside to get your food.
Your coworkers were standing at the ready to interrogate you. They knew you generally hated talking on the phone, but this time, you were all smiles.
"Tell us all about him, honey," the receptionist, Henrietta, demanded. "We need some excitement around here."
"What? How did you...."
"Dear, you have lovesick written all over your face!"
You blushed hard. Before you knew it, you were encircled by colleagues rolling over in their desk chairs as you recounted spotting Nic on the bus and working up the courage to say hello, and how magical that first unexpected date and kiss were last night. Once they were done peppering you with questions and chairs were rolled back to desks, Henrietta came up to you and gave you a hug.
"I'm glad you are finally putting yourself back out there after that jerk, Matt. You deserve to find love again, and he sounds like a wholesome guy."
"Thanks, Etta." You patted her arm and gently squeezed. "Time for me to come down out of the clouds and get back to work, I guess."
Small text exchanges throught the rest of the day kept you going, but you craved to hear Nic's voice again. Tomorrow felt like forever away. You knew you'd need to distract yourself with a rare visit to the gym that evening to pass the time and wear yourself out.
You were walking to the bus stop after work when you felt your phone buzz in your bag. It was a long, repeated vibration - someone was calling you. You fumbled through the main section of the bag, cursing yourself for not putting your phone in the pocket it belonged for quick access. Once in hand, you stared at the screen. Nic?
"Hello?"
"Is now a bad time?"
"No, not at all. I just wasn't expecting to get to talk to you again today. I'm off work and walking to the bus. How was the rest of your day?"
"Not bad, but I have to say it definitely peaked at lunchtime. I wanted to hear your voice again."
You chuckled. "Same here. Sounds like you are walking, too."
"The meeting isn't far from the station, so I like to get more steps in if weather permits."
"Maybe your habits will rub off on me."
He didn't respond, but you could hear him breathing on the other end of the line.
"Getting up early routinely and going for a run, walking instead of taking the bus or taxi. I have a gym membership, but I'm the worst about actually going," you added.
"Oh," he replied, followed by anxious laughter. "Hey, I made it to the meeting spot. I'll talk to you later, ok?"
"Ok. Have a good night!"
"Bye, [Y/N]."
<><><><><>
There was no message waiting for you the next morning. Trying not to think anything of it, despite the strange end to the last two conversations, and to keep things balanced, you decided to send one yourself to start things off.
You: Morning!
You had already made it to work and started on your case load before Nic responded with a simple "good morning" in return three hours later. You were elbow deep in paperwork and couldn't break away to message again until lunch, which was later than usual.
No additional texts. And no call. Desperately trying not to overthink, you reminded yourself that he said he would talk to you later, so there had to be at least some intent to make contact. He had given you no reason not to trust his word, but you couldn't take it any longer.
You: Sorry for the radio silence. It's been a busy day prepping for a case.
Nic: No worries. At work, too.
You: Still on for dinner? I should be at your stop about 5:40
Nic: Yep, see you soon
You chalked his stilted, near transactional messages up to being busy at work. For once, you were grateful for the hectic pace at work to keep your brain from spiraling. At the end of the day, you gathered your things and took a deep breath before leaving the office. You reminded yourself that you were beyond capable of handling whatever the evening threw at you.
You boarded the bus and mindlessly watched the scrolling marquee of upcoming cross streets. Your heart rate surged with each stop that brought you closer to Nic. What if he wasn't there? What if he was acting strange because he's planning to cut things off?
The next stop was yours. You stepped off and looked around once you cleared the bus and breathed a sigh of relief to see Nic leaning against a nearby pole. One worry down. He walked over toward you.
"Hi," you said, trying to sound chipper.
"Hey." He bent down and gave you a small peck of a kiss on your cheek. He looked...sad. Not the greeting you had hoped for. "Ready to eat?"
Truthfully, no. But you weren't going to fill him in on your anxieties yet, so you just nodded and walked alongside as he led the way to the restaurant in silence. Something was obviously up. You could see an Italian restaurant sign up the street, but he paused before you made it there.
Nic stepped over to a nearby bench and gestured for you to sit beside him. You did so nervously, clutching your bag in your lap so he couldn't see your hands shake.
"Hey, listen," he started. "Before we, uh, go in, I...I need to tell you something. I owe it to you and to myself."
Your eyes widened. "Oh, God. You're not, like, still married or something, are you?" Your voice raised, garnering attention from passersby.
"What? No, oh, no no, not that." Nic reached out as if he wanted to hold your hand, but hesitated before pulling it back to his leg. He looked around to see if anyone was still paying attention and took a deep breath before locking eyes with you. "[Y/N], I am a recovering addict. I have been sober for about three years now."
That is not what you expected. Your brain churned through a thousand different responses, trying to figure out the right thing to say to such big news. Before you could say anything, he continued.
"I go to NA meetings every Wednesday evening. They reminded me that... that...if we are going to get to know each other, I need you to know me. Who I am. That is part of my identity and daily challenge to continue to be my best self." His shoulders fell as he looked down at the sidewalk away from you. "I also...I wanted to give you a chance to end this early if that is too much. You deserve to be with the right person, and I understand that that may not be me."
Nic jumped slightly when you hooked your finger under his chin to lift his head up, where you met him with a soft smile.
"That is nothing to be ashamed of," you replied slowly. "Thank you for sharing. I know that couldn't have been easy, but at least now I better understand why you weren't talking much today. I thought...I thought maybe I said something wrong yesterday."
"What?! No! Oh no, I'm so sorry that I made you think that." He pulled your hand up to his lips to kiss it. "You- you're a breath of fresh air. A fresh start with someone who isn't stuck on the image of the old me."
You released a deep breath you didn't even know you had been holding. "I must admit that I can't even begin to know what your journey has been like. Or will be like. But I'm willing to take things one day at a time to find out."
"One day at a time is all I can ask for." Nic gently leaned his forehead against yours. "Thank you."
You were enjoying the closeness until your stomach betrayed you with a loud grumble. Now that your worries had eased, you were terribly famished. Nic sat up and wiped a tear off his cheek, laughing as if a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He stood and held his hand out to you.
"Hungry?"
"Starved," you replied as you stood and followed him toward the restaurant once again. "So what's good here?"
"Well, I prefer their spaghetti over their penne..."

Just want to take a moment to congratulate you on 500 followers! You absolutely deserve it and more! I love your ideas and your writing. Can I request a blurb with a headstrong reader who is always used to fixing things herself but Billy just wants to take care of her? I like the idea of PA reader, kinda like Donna & Harvey in Suits! Maybe something like reader gets “stood up” by an Anvil client whose interest in you got Billy clear on how he feels and jealous on someone else seeing your worth?
I used to love Suits... but I never finished watching it so I don't know what happened with the whole Darvey situation but I LOVED their dynamic in the first few seasons of the show (and also just how weird and awkward it was when Max Beesley's character was going out for Donna for a while). So, yeah, this was definitely fun to write and I hope I've managed to catch enough of the awesome Donna energy in the reader character here! (Also now I'm going to have to start watching Suits again)
Don't Have to Say You Love Me
Pairing : Billy Russo x Reader
Story Rating : M
Warnings : [This is 18+ only, minors DNI] Smutty behaviour.
You placed his coffee and lunch down in front of him, immediately drawing his attention upwards.
"Is that —"
"A large flat white and a toasted BLT with extra sauce," you said, knowing full well how he liked to take his lunch on a Friday. By this point you were almost offended that he dared to ask.
"And have you got —"
"The research on the Collins account and the two government contracts Senator Williams wants to discuss," you interrupted as you pulled three files from beneath your arm and placed them down.
His eyes narrowed on you, mind obvious racing, trying to find something you hadn't thought of.
"What about —"
"Yes, I've had someone from maintenance fix the AC in the meeting room because I know you don't like having the Senator in your office around the good scotch."
Everything was sorted. Everything he could possibly ask of you, and he knew why — he was just waiting for you to say it. You didn't want to have to say it, because you knew exactly what his reaction would be.
But you knew Billy Russo. You knew how fucking stubborn he could be.
It'd probably amuse him to keep you standing there all day like a lemon.
After a few seconds you let out a huff.
"You do remember that I'm leaving early today, right?" You asked, drawing attention to the elephant in the room.
You weren't even sure why Billy was so annoyed that you'd gone and gotten yourself a date — he was stringing along half the women in New York, so why did it matter that you'd finally found someone who was interested in you?
"Right, how could I forget?" He said and you could hear the disdain in his voice. "I still can't believe you're going out with Thompson."
"Why not?" You asked, really not in the mood for his snarky behaviour. You both knew each other better than that.
"He just so —"
"Rich?" You offered. "Handsome? British?"
"Boring. He's not right for you, he doesn't deserve you."
You rolled your eyes. "And what would you know about what's right for me, Billy?"
The question was met with the expected silence. You'd long since given up on any fancy notion of him actually seeing you or admitting to the undeniable tension that had permeated your relationship since you first started working for him years ago.
What had once been a will they, would they, could they, had be stamped with a big red absolutely not by him and his inaction.
"Enjoy your date," he said, like he was driving the final nail into the coffin.
You couldn't remember exactly what you told him as you left his office, but it didn't matter. The pair of you argued, you always had. You'd made it clear from the start that, just because you were his PA, you weren't there to take any of his shit. You did your job and you were damned good at it — he was lucky to have you, lucky that you still wanted to work for him when there were so many other firms that would love to have you.
But you were loyal if you had one fault. Endlessly loyal when it came to Anvil and when it came to Billy Russo.
The one thing you weren't, however, was an idiot. Davis Thompson was funny, charming and rich, and sure, you might have met him through work, but you at least owed it to yourself to see where it would go.
And, where it went, as it turned out, was absolutely nowhere.
You'd been stood up before — you were a big girl, getting snubbed by a man who couldn't even bother to text was not going to end your world. (Though it might give you the urge to key his car the next time he had a meeting at Anvil.)
You got to the bar early, and you waited.
And waited.
You ordered yourself a drink, and you waited.
You gave up on him showing, but you decided to have another glass of wine because, why not? And, while you were making bad decisions, you decided to add another to the list and text Billy.
Don't go getting smug, but you were right.
It took less than a minute for his reply to come through.
He bored you that much already?
You found yourself smiling, even as you rolled your eyes.
Didn't even show up.
Despite feeling somewhat embarrassed, you knew that Billy wasn't on the other end of the phone laughing at you. He wasn't like that. Not when it came to you. (He was probably planning on keying Thompson's car too now.)
You put your phone down on the bar and ordered another drink, only half-surprised when it didn't buzz with another message from Billy. It was fine. It was Friday, he was probably busy on a date of his own. You had your wine, you were happy, you'd maybe have one more, then —
"Well, here I am. What are your other two wishes?"
In any other circumstances the bad pick-up line would have had you seriously considering throwing your drink, but you recognised the voice immediately and before you could even turn your head, Billy Russo was sitting at the bar beside you.
"Please tell me you've never used that line on a woman you actually wanted to sleep with," you said, barely biting back a laugh.
"I have," he answered, waving down the bar tender and ordering a glass of what you were drinking.
"And did it work?"
"I'll let you know at the end of the night."
"Oh, ha ha, very funny." You rolled your eyes. "What are you doing here anyway?"
"Thought you might want some company since Thompson was a no-show."
For a few seconds you were willing to accept his answer, but it didn't exactly hold up under scrutiny.
"I text you literally five minutes ago; how did you get here so quick?" You asked, eyes narrowing.
"I was in the neighbourhood?"
He almost looked sheepish, embarrassed even, and you had no idea why. A dusting of pink spread across his cheeks and, for a second, he could barely even look at you.
"Okay, what the fuck is going on?" And, then when he looked at you, you felt an unsettling feeling in you gut. "What did you do?"
You'd always been good at reading him, at seeing right through him. And, right then, he had the look of a guilty man struggling to explain himself.
"Don't get angry —"
"Don't ask me not to get angry if you're going to say something that makes me angry, Billy," you warned.
He took a drink. "I might have cancelled your date —"
"You did what?"
Un-fucking-believable.
Actually, no. It was entirely fucking-believable. And that was what pissed you off the most. He'd ruined your date because of — what? Some selfish sense of jealousy and entitlement, because if he didn't want you, no one else should.
You start to move, standing only to find his fingers on your wrist.
"Wait —" he started, almost sounding panicked.
"I did wait, Billy," you said, admitting far more than you ever wanted to. "I waited for years. For you. And what were you doing? Fucking half of New York."
It was the first time you'd dared utter anything of the sort aloud, the first time either of you had openly admitted to the unspoken, unacted-upon feelings between you.
You tugged against his grip on you, but Billy held tight as you struggled against him.
"Let me go," you said.
"No," Billy answered, getting to his feet, standing in front of you. "I'm not letting you go again."
Before you could even think to question what the fuck he meant, his lips were on yours and your whole world seemed to come to a screeching halt. For a few sweet seconds, you were frozen, indulging in something you'd barely allowed yourself to dream about, but how could you trust it? How could you trust him when he was only kissing you because he'd been jealous, because he'd thought you were finally going to find happiness with someone else.
You pulled back from the kiss, enough to see the flicker of hurt in his eyes and the worry on his face.
"This better not be a game, Billy," you warned him. "I'm not one of your girls that you can pick up and drop whenever you —"
He cut you off with another kiss, his arm winding around you waist and pulling you against him. And you let him. You allowed yourself to melt into the warmth of his body, you fingers gripping his shirt at his waist, just beneath his jacket.
"No more games," he muttered against your lips. "I can't lose you. I won't. I'm sick of pretending that I don't want you — that I don't love you."
Your heart stuttered, knowing the weight that that word bore for Billy. He'd never used it when talking about any of the other women, and you knew it wasn't the sort of thing he'd say without meaning it.
Still, you couldn't bring yourself to say it back. Not yet, not when some part of you still ached over his treatment of you.
"Take me home," you said, daring to hope that this wasn't just some pipe dream that would vanish the moment he'd had you in his bed.
Not that you made it as far as his bed.
He'd taken you by the hand a pulled you out of the bar, into the cold New York air — his car was park a block over, it should have been a quick, short walk if it hadn't been for you pulling him back for another kiss. Then, before either of you could think, you found yourself in an alleyway, pressed back against a wall as Billy kissed you.
Years of tension quickly came to the fore, your fingers gripping his jacket, his shirt, his hair — anything you could get hold of, anything you could use to keep him close. And all the while, he kissed you. You couldn't get enough of him.
Things quickly reached boiling point, your fingers tugging at the fastenings of his pants while he lifted your dress. There was no slow build, no teasing foreplay, once you'd freed his cock, you found yourself lifted and —
"Fuck," you moaned against his lips, "fuck, fuck, fuck — Billy."
He buried himself inside you in a single fluid movement, stopping when every inch of him was hilted.
His forehead pressed against yours as you both stilled, already breathless, and both entirely overwhelmed.
"Billy," you said in a low whine, your fingers gripping his hair.
His eyes opened and he looked at you through the gloom of the alley.
"I love you," he said softly, like he'd finally realised the gravity of the situation.
He started to move with slow but deep thrusts, not quite making love to you, but doing all he could to show you that this meant something. He alternated between kissing your lips and your neck, and you found yourself leaning into his every touch as pleasure started to coil inside you.
Your legs tightened around his waist, keeping him close, never wanting to let him go. And when you came it was with four little words.
"I love you too."

How can we help?
I dunno about y’all but I’m very keen to live in a world where LJ Smith has some good things happen to her for a change, and we get to read Strange Fate. So is there anything we can do to make those things happen?
First, Strange Fate.
The only thing I can think to do is spread the word. Post on your socials, drop the news into the off topic channel of any remotely bookish discords you may be in. “Anybody read these books back when? The author reappeared!” Tell random YA readers you know. There are a bunch of people who liked the Night World books but haven’t thought of them in years, and a bunch of people who remember them and do the Strange Fate deepdive periodically, and those are the people who’d like to know that things are moving again.
I just wish we knew how fast things were moving! Spreading the word is a bit suboptimal when the word is, “Strange Fate is coming… sometime in the next few years, really this time!” But still, folks will want to know. Alas, fan enthusiasm cannot grease the slow wheels of publishing!
I think there will be a time for telling the publisher how very excited we are, but I’m not sure that time is yet. And if things don’t work out with publishers, there may be a time when we can kick in to a Kickstarter, but that time is also not yet.
Second, Ms. Smith.
This lady fought her way through some serious slings and arrows of outrageous fortune to finish the book we want to read. She deserves some good stuff to happen in her life and we can deliver some of that good stuff!
Ms. Smith would like to have action on the website. Importantly: emails do not go directly to Ms. Smith, she has her “staff writer” Jesa who seems to be both assistant and friend handling correspondence. Which is good! Dealing with a whole entire fanbase of delighted but very impatient people might be a bit too much for Ms. Smith who is still having medical issues, she needs a buffer and I’m really glad she has one. So say nice things to Jesa!
-Send questions for Ask LJ. I tried to think of questions that I really am curious about, that would also be fun for Ms. Smith to answer. One was what kind of anime she’s into, and I'm super curious to know if we have the same taste.
-Send fun stories. Did anything really wacky ever happen because you’re a Night World fan? Ever had a funny conversation with another fan in the wild? Did you roleplay or cosplay as your favorite character? This series has been part of our lives for ages—probably not a super big part, I mean there’s lots of fandoms, but if you’re here now it’s been a part for a long time.
-Send fanart. Jesa reports that Ms. Smith loves to see fanart! Also while I know we all have lots of opinions on AI pictures, Ms. Smith likes them and if you can wrangle a prompt to make a scene from one of the books she’d probably get a kick out of it. Or if you can draw, think of it as giving her some better art!
-Do not send fanfiction or story ideas. This is a bummer for those of us who happen to have the written word as our medium, but there are tangled legal and copyright things that make it VERY BAD for official authors to read any fanwork of their own stories. Ms. Smith wants to interact with her fans, so we need to make sure we’re fans who are safe to interact with!
And be nice, and be patient.

So carry me from these walls, brother of mine, Show me the world outside. It has to be true, I'm counting on you To be my wings and my eyes.
Fish in a Birdcage - Rule #4, Fish Inside a Birdcage (2022)
Image ID:
First image - A messy, sketchy quality drawing of Ol' Jericho Sticks from Legends of Avantris: Edge of Midnight. Well, technically this is Virgil in Jericho's body. He stands at the far left side of the canvas, with his back to the camera and his head turned over his shoulder to stare a beady four-pointed eye at the audience. Their arms hang loosely at their sides. Four massive black wings sprout from Jericho/Virgil's shoulderblades and from below his "ribcage," the two farther from the camera extending over the rest of the canvas. The two in proximity to the camera curve over Jericho/Virgil's body, obscuring parts of them, and framing emphasis around their eye. Seven orange eyes with four-pointed star pupils, drawn even more messily than the figure, float in space and stare out at the audience from between the feathers of the extended wings. Scribbles in jagged strokes frame the piece and reach towards the figure. The whole piece is in a duotone greyish/orange color scheme. Words, the lyrics to Fish in a Birdcage's Rule #4 - Fish Inside a Birdcage, are written messily, following the contours of the eyes and the wings. The words write: "YOU GAVE ME MORE THAN I COULD ASK FOR... INDISTINGUISHABILITY"
Second Image - A zoomed in version of the first image, to give a more detailed view of Jericho/Virgil's face and body. Only the figure, the two closest wings, and a quarter of the other two wings are shown. No words are in view, but two of the eyes are visible.

Tangentially related to some of the discussion i posted earlier but quiet literally the first RW Art Month i participated I did it completely on whim like, one day before it started. And I mostly did it because I hadn't drawn a ton of rain world and wanted to draw more. Fandom presence was a lot smaller than and I was one of a handful of artists who did the entire thing. Fast forward and I still do Art Month and I've gotten to work with VC directly. But it was quite literally something I decided to do completely on whim that set the ball rolling, and for something a lil more niche and certainly with a lot more dev/fandom art involvement than most. It's really random how and why you might get noticed more than usual, especially with the "toss it into the search and hope it pays out' mechanism of Socmed
#t.extpost#and im hardly the fanciest art month artist out there so it wasnt even about being a jaw droppingly talented artist or whatever#and while artmonth for rw is still given a huge focus its also a much much bigger thing now with a much bigger number of participants#which is cool! its awesome how many people i saw do most if not all of last art month! and VC is really good about not just repping the#most popular artists or fanciest pieces#but theres So Much More there now and while its great for finding artists its also impossible to get Everyone in there you know?#Although they absolutely try#And this is like. one of the most fanartist involved devs ive ever seen in terms of both celebrating the art their fans make and actively#bringing those fans in to contribute#and its /still/ hard to get going just because thats how Posting is#i used to be more of a hk artist which is both a huge fandom and riddled with stunning artists but theres So Many#and niche fandoms are niche so youre more likely to connect with people but less likely to see a ton of engagement regularly -#probably best example i have for that was being briefly fixated on patapon.#Its just messy to try and find the hack that sets you up#just have fun and jump around and make what you like#get a sense of feeling for your style and some people will stick around for that vs. strictly the subject matter#others will look up the thing you switched too and some wont engage#you cant really control it#so have fun and draw that thing you randomly thought about at 2 am that doesnt match your blog#draw for that forgotten rpg you liked when you were 15 or draw for the 70 player max steam game you played for this week#you never really know what will happen#but its not really worth worrying about what will happen either

Another self insert based entirely one someone else's self insert. @lunayumes has such a habit of making the prettiest and loneliest self inserts, but unlike Your Turn to Die I've SEEN Dungeon Meshi and thus can make her at least a little less lonely.
Emile's a Gnome/Half-Foot hybrid who was raised by his parents far from most civilization. When his mother (half-foot) died of old age his father (gnome) took his own life, unable to live without his wife, leaving their son of indeterminate age completely abandoned on a farm in the middle of No Where.
Emile saved up the funds to leave his home and go traveling in hopes of learning more about his heritage and culture he was deprived of and eventually found himself on The Island. Naturally he gravitated to the local library to read everything they had on Gnome and Half-Foot culture and History. This is also where he meets Emi, who goes to the library mostly just to get out of her empty house when he husband, Chilchuck, is away.
Neither of them are very sociable people, but eventually Emile works up the courage to talk to this very pretty Half-Foot he sees regularly. Surprisingly, they have a lot in common and end up hitting it off.
Emile eventually convinces Emi to leave Chilchuck, partly because he's formed a crush on the woman, but mostly because she's his friend and he wants what's best for her, and this clearly wasn't it. He knows what it's like to be alone all the time. When Chilchuck eventually comes back to talk to Emi and the two make up, Emile remains pretty Anti-Chilchuck for a while afterwards, mostly just giving him dirty looks. Emi doesn't seem to notice.
That's about all I have. Again thanks to @lunayumes for letting me use her S/I as a base for mine!! Anything is subject to change at you're request!!

This is a very serious story about a man named Stanley (Patreon)
#Doodles#The Stanley Parable#TSP#Just kidding I tricked you it's more silly fluff! But it is still about Stanley haha#Starting off with just some general doodles because Fun To Draw <3#I was trying to draw Stanley pursing his lips from a side angle 'cause lip expressions are something I struggle with and yup! That tracks#He does look cute tho haha spacey boy thinking in emoticons#More Narra floof - trying to even out his hair but it's harder than I thought! Hm!#The ''long side'' (really just the side opposite of his part) has more volume so it's hard to get them to convincingly ''match'' lol#Doesn't help when he has it all mussed haha#Sleepy lads <3 Sleeping together but so grumpily barely touching! No snuggles! Protect the chest and don't get cozy!#Yeah that lasted all of like five minutes once they were both asleep lol Stanley must cuddle the warm spot on his mattress haha#I'm quite pleased with that one especially haha ♫ Sin looks so open and unbothered and relaxed and his hand ah <3#Narra's so put out (but he does secretly like to be snuggled. He's never admit it tho!)#You might notice I also tried a different eyelid fold style for funsies in the first Stanley-solo and them sleeping together#It was in fact funsies! Haha#I still like the simple dot-folds but every once in a while it's fun >:3c#Capping off with more size silliness hehe - if he can go very big why not very small! Put a Narrator in your pocket and walk around with him#He'll complain the whole time that your pocket is cramped and you did a bad job in picking fabric haha#Oh but he'd be especially cute in Stanley's breast pocket <3#Also he's not speaking in that one I just didn't know how else to express that thought about Narra being So y'know? Lol#Cute lads <3

[Start ID. A green-toned drawing of two characters from an original universe, shown from the shoulders up. It's framed as though they're taking a selfie. On the left is Heathrow, a human with dark skin, long hair, a good number of facial scars, and two painted lines below each eye. He wears something akin to a green hoodie, with fluffy plant matter sewn into the back of the hood. On the right is Crassie, a half elf, which in this universe entails long pointed ears, a pair of short pale horns, a slightly rabbit-like nose and markings under her eyes. Her skin is olive-toned, sporting a couple distinct scars on her face and hand, and she's wearing what is essentially a bush and spiked glovelets. Both of them are smiling, Crassie a little bit wide-eyed and Heathrow with a fond expression. The background's a saturated green with the text "1 YEAR!". End ID]
A redraw-in-spirit of the post from last year's Feb 16 that introduced these two to my blog. It's their birthday :]
#peridots-art#heathrow chtn#crassie chtn#chtn#eye contact#peridots-ocs#i've only posted about them three times including this and every single time i manage to go 'hey did you know heath was originally meant as#a stand-in for the hunter from hk? i thought that was neat :)' so. obligatory mention of that i guess#because of their shifting nature i could never pin down the days they/their universe were created but i love an excuse to get emotional#about birthdays/anniversaries and such. so today it is then (it just turned midnight 17th in my timezone... it's the thought that counts)#this is also the first non-fullbody I've posted on Tumblr in a Really long time?? like there's the dragon from nov 5 and daud from oct 26.#looking past that i guess there were quite a few okay but three and a half months is a lot when you draw as much as i#anyway. these guys.#had a little more to say about them but i scrapped it. they're both very ace and aro and while i respect aroaces who don't want Any sort of#intimate relationship (platonic or otherwise!) they are about as far as you can get from it. a qpr sounds appropriate#the nature of their relationship defies description. friends and a little like siblings. life partners? a little like father and daughter.#they've only ever known each other. i may not think about them so often but man do i love them.#for the most part accidental but this was definitely inspired by miecz's art :] the linework was surprisingly fun to do#wasn't gonna address kit directly seeing as i don't know if it always reads these? but if you are your tags were very kind!!#i don't know anyone else who's as lengthy with it as i but i like talking in the tags! so. i'm glad they're appreciated :]#that isn't all i have to say on the subject (i'm never used to people being nice to me) but i'll save it for somewhere it will def. be seen#...idk how to describe their clothing. i designed his a year ago and hers more than that do you think they're supposed to make sense#there were a Lot of particularities with the id that made it. hard to write. this is better than nothing of course but don't know if it's#the most efficient. with that hour-to-thirty-minutes of my day over with (I AM TALKING ABOUT THE IMAGE DESCRIPTION MY ART TAKES 6 HOURS AT#ABSOLUTE BEST apologies for the screaming) i can officially say goodnight to you tag-wanderer and farewell#peridots-described
