“This is where your office will be for the time being. Why don't you put your things down and get comfortable, and l'll come get you in a few. I'll take you to meet Don, Cam, Jim, and the boys."

She nodded and smiled at her new boss, putting her bag down on the chair of her new, albeit small, office. It was probably 10×10ft, but it overlooked the city of Boston in the way she'd always dreamed of. She finally made it - got a position working in media for her childhood, hometown team - the Boston Bruins.

As she paced around the room, all she could do was smile to herself, anxiously awaiting her boss, Angelica, to come retrieve her so she could meet the team.

Boston born and raised, she had always been a hockey fan - specifically a Bruins fan. Brad Marchand's name and jersey number were her laptop password far before he wore the C' on his chest. Jack Edwards' voice was both familiar and nostalgic, as it echoed around her childhood home in the fall, with family crowded up around the TV set watching their B's.

"Y/N, are you ready?" Angelica's voice broke her away from her memories. She grinned as Angelica motioned for her to follow down out of her office and into the Garden. She looked around in disbelief - all of her hard work truly paid off to get here, especially at only 21 years old.

"Unfortunately, Mr. Sweeney and Mr. Neely are in an important meeting at the moment. l've made them aware that you are here and ready to start working. We'll go meet Monty and the team now, if that's alright. You can get right on with your first task, the hometown video I mentioned. That's a short and easy one that they'll love to do, and it'll help them get to know you and vice versa. Alright?" Angelica smiled.

"Sounds great." she replied kindly, trailing behind Angelica slowly, as she glanced around the path on the way to the locker room. Her hands started to sweat as they got closer to the door, knowing that Brad Marchand was back there. The other guys too, but mostly Brad.

Angelica knocked on the door before turning to her new hire. *Here goes nothing!" she smiled.

Montgomery comes to the door, a small grin lacing his normally stern face. Angelica speaks again. "This is Y/N, our newest media hire. She hails from Boston University. She gestures to her side proudly, as Y/N offers her hand for Monty to shake. "Mind if we come in and get her started?"

Montgomery laughs. “Sure thing. God knows they're tired of me laying into 'em." He holds the door open for the ladies and clears his throat.

"Gentlemen, we have visitors." His voice booms through the space as he leads the media team to the space the team is sitting.

Y/N glances around. Holy shit. That's him. That's Brad Marchand. And Charlie McAvoy. And David Pastrnak. And Charlie Coyle.

She pinches her own hand to remind herself that this is real life.

Angelica clears her throat to speak. “Hi everyone!You all know me, from the marketing and media team. I wanted to introduce to you our newest member of the media group, who will be working closely with you all as a creator for our social accounts and website. Please give Y/N a warm Bruins welcome."

The team smiles, claps, and Carlo lets out a whoop. Of course he did, she thinks to herself, recalling all of the silly videos of Brandon she's seen over the years on the Bruins pages.

Angelica gestures silently over to her new hire, prompting her to introduce herself. "Hi guys, my name is Y/N and I am so excited to be here. I'm a hometown fan hailing from BU," she is interrupted by a whoop now from McAvoy.

She laughs before continuing. “I'm 21, and just finished my degree in digital marketing a year early. I'II be around you all for the time being creating content for our pages like Angelica said, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all. Especially you, Marchy!" she giggles, as laughs, cheers, and boos are heard around the room.

Out of the corner of her eye, she watches a slightly unfamiliar face shove Frederic's side with a puss on his face, as Freddy laughs at him. She narrowed her eyes. Who is that?

Monty notices her confusion and steps in. “Alright boys. Does anyone have any questions for Y/N before I let her take over to do her job, since half of you can't do yours?" He scoffs.

Trent starts to speak loudly, as the one next to him lowers his head. "Potsy wants to know-"

“I don't think Y/N, Angelica, or myself want to answer whatever question is going to follow that, Trent.” Monty interjects. “You're dismissed for the day. Practice at Warrior tomorrow at noon, optional skate at 10:30. Do the media and go home." He rolls his eyes, grabs his suit jacket and leaves the room with Angelica, who slips a thumbs up to her new hire.

The room goes silent, with everyone turning to look at their new media girl. She waves timidly before starting to speak. “Alright guys - just an easy one for me today, no hassle. All you have to do is tell me where you come from! What's your hometown. Bonus points for country, state, province, whatever." She smiles. "Anyone want to go first?"

Zadorov jumps out of his seat. "I've been waiting for something like this! I finally can explain my accent." he grumbles as laughs break out throughout the room.

"Alright!" she replies. *This is not mandatory this first go around, but I'd really love it if everyone would participate. I'd love to get to know you and vice versa. You ready Nikita?"

"She knows my name!!!" Zadorov exclaimed, met with cheers and gloves being thrown at him from various spots around the room as the team begins to clean up. As their new media girl turns to leave the room, she makes eye contact with the same player she watched shove Frederic not too long ago. She smiles at him kindly, and he quickly turns around and grabs his things.

She reads the back of his jersey.

51. Poitras.

Oh... The rookie. He's back from injured reserve, she presumes, trying to not read into how quickly he dodged her eye contact and smile.

For the next hour and a half or so, she learns Zadorov hails from Moscow, Swayman from Anchorage, Frederic from St. Louis, and Marchy from Halifax, Nova Scotia. She pretended she didn't know that one already.

She speaks one-on-one with the majority of the team, with the soft spoken folks like Zacha and Peeke slipping out after bidding her a goodbye and brief thank you.

51 never said anything.

She watched as Poitras, who's first name escaped her, waited for Lohrei and Frederic to be done with their quick interviews, and immediately ushered them out of the room upon completion.

No words spoken to the media girl or either of the players, just frantic hurrying out of the locker room.

The whole situation just seemed strange. She tried to rationalize her thoughts, acknowledging that this random rookie didn't know her, and had no reason to dislike her. Maybe he had something going on. A party or shoot to get to, a dinner reservation, or maybe just didn't feel well and wanted to go home and play Xbox or something.

It wasn't her fault. Not on day one.

By day 45, it definitely started to feel like her fault.

51, or Matt as she now knows, continued to dodge her constantly - around the office, around the rink, even on his way in and out of the locker rooms. Matt had not done content for media in her entire month and a half long duration with the Bruins. It started to feel personal.

Luckily, she had finally found a rapport with the majority of the team. Marchy, her childhood favorite, became a confidant, always wanting to partake in anything to give him attention. She got a few lip sync videos out of him. Zadorov another she grew close to. But unshockingly, no one came close to touching her relationship with Brandon Carlo. Though truly not that much her senior, Brandon became an older brother figure to her, frequently partaking in her content, chatting with her, and inviting her out with him, his wife Mayson, and their kids.

She had grown so fond of her Bruins family, and it showed in her content. Her silly interviews had started to do numbers on Instagram and TikTok. The Bruins presence on social media skyrocketed, and she began to receive tasks from her bosses to include as many players as possible.

Her newest task? Intro to the new guys.

Of fucking course.

She started with Lohrei. He was the easiest - just wanted to do what he knew he had to and get back to the ice. She liked that about him. Being the same age, they had a similar respect for each other. And sent each other TikToks on occasion.

After Beecher, Koepke, Jones, Zadi, and Lindy #2, Kastelic was next - though not new to the league, only the B's. Though she knew he was from Arizona and is a former Ottawa Senator, she learned Kasty is an NHL nepo baby.

“Y/N... You can't start calling me nepo baby.. it's not like l'm a Tkachuk." Mark rolled his eyes, the girl laughing in response, clutching her abdomen.

"Kasty, as far as l'm concerned, you might as well be the lost third brother. You're just as much of a rat!"

"Oh... That's low..." he cackled.

"Whatever. Get outta here, and send the next guy in!" she called.

"Will do!" Kasty replied diligently, turning on his heels to go out into the hall. She knew Matt was next. He was the only new guy' left. Being a fan favorite, she knew he needed to be in this video series.

What is taking so long??

She crossed her arms and tapped her feet anxiously, waiting for Poitras to come into the interview room.

“Dude, you actually need to grow up. This is part of the job." She hears Mark's voice through the wall. Her stomach sinks. Is he talking to Matt?

She approaches the door, leaning her ear up against it. "Do you really think this does you any favors? You're such a kid. This isn't the minors, Matt." Kasty's voice booms nastily.

She feels the tears well up in her eyes. She had the feeling that Matt didn't like her, but to fight with a teammate over having to be in an interview video? Was she really that bad at her job?

She walks away from the wall when she hears scrambling on the other side. She wipes her tears as Mark comes back into the room, the one and only Matt Poitras trailing behind him. Kastelic rolls his eyes. "Matt hates media, sorry. He needs to be out as soon as possible or he'll start to freak out." Mark leaves, slamming the door behind him.

Matt sighs, running his hand through his hair.

"Sorry, Y/N. Can we just get this over with?" he says, uneasiness audible in his voice.

She takes a deep breath as she turns her camera back on. "Sure thing, Matt. Why don't you tell me a little about your life growing up?"

A few days later, she aggressively flops down onto the carlo family couch. "Brandon, I have a genuine question."

Brandon cocks his eyebrow, bringing dinner over to Y/N and Mayson. "This can't be good." he chuckles.

She throws her arms up exasperatedly. "This is not a joke! I need answers.” Brandon ushers her on. “Is there a reason Poitras hates media so much?"

Brandon lets out the smallest giggle under his breath, making eyes at Mayson. The girl continues, solemnly. "Is it me? Did I do something?"

"Oh my god. No. You didn't. Open your eyes!" Brandon all but yells, not wanting to wake up the kids.

She furrows her brow. “Brandon. I've known you for just under two months and here I am, eating dinner on your couch with your family. Poitras won't do much as speak to me, and he avoids me and media at all costs. I don't know what I did to him." she feels her eyes start to water again.

Brandon sighs. “Dude, have you ever considered that you make him nervous?"

"What? He's a professional hockey player Brandon, that makes no sens-"

“Y/N, he has a crush on you. Since day one. It is slowly killing all of us." Mayson starts to giggle as Y/N's jaw drops, Brandon looking very proud of himself.

"What?"

"You have to say something to him. Please. For the rest of our sake. Monty almost killed him last week when he fucked up that drill in practice - he got distracted when he noticed you in the stands with the camera. If you don't say something to him soon, Monty's gonna send him to Providence!!" Brandon laughed, a lot less quiet this time. Mayson, also still laughing, shushed him between giggles.

Monday morning, she shows up to practice with her camera, an evil (Carlo) plan in her brain.

Up in the stands, she notices as she catches Matt's eye. She waves and smiles as he skates into Lohrei's back distractedly. Mason shoves him in response, laughing as he realizes he had been looking at the girl up in the stands.

When Monty calls practice, she heads down to the locker room, searching for Matt. She knocks, signifying her entrance into the room. she calls into the room. "Hey guys, it's Y/N. I need Potsy for an exclusive. Boss's orders." She smiles as she rounds the corner, her order met by whoops and wolf whistles.

Matt blushes, giving his team the stink eye as he approaches her. He starts quietly. “What is this for? They know I don't like doing media."

She gives him a soft smile. "It's a silly TikTok. Ranking snacks. You're a hot commodity, Matty, fans want to see you online!" He blushes again, grabbing his water bottle and following her out of the locker room.

They hear a faint "GET IT!" from Pastrnak as the door closes.

Matt sits down in the interview space, accepting her phone with TikTok open on it.

"Loosen up, it's just a video. Everyone loves you - they want to see you be silly" She smiles.

He blind ranks the snacks, frustratedly putting cheetos above protein bars after he didn't plan accordingly. He grins timidly as he gives the phone back to her. He pushes his chair back, and starts to get up to leave. “I hope that was enough. I gotta g-”

“Matt, wait." She gently grabs his arm. "Sit back down for a second. I have more questions!"

His face heats up as he sits back down. "About what? I thought I already did my get to know you thing weeks ago." He rolls his eyes unconvincingly.

She giggles in reply. "They're questions from me.”

"Of course they are, you're the media girl. I don't understand."

"No. This is Y/N asking Matt a question. Not the media girl asking the rookie." She smirks. "I just want to know - why do you hate media so much?Did I do something? You did fine when it was Angelica."

Matt sighs. "It's nothing personal, Y/N. I just get nervous."

She smirks again. "Matt, I know it's personal.”

Sighing louder this time, Matt speaks again. “Y/N, whatever Freddy or Kasty or whoever else told you is not true, I have nothing against yo-"

"Matt, I have a crush on you too."

Matt freezes. "What?"

“I know that's why you won't do media. Why do you think I keep asking you to do it anyway?"

"Boss's orders?" He smiles shyly.

"Something like that." She pulls a piece of paper out of her camera bag, scribbling digits onto it. "Here's my number, Pots. Don't lose it, okay?"

She gets up, turns on her heels, and opens the door back to the locker room.

"I'll call you!" He calls after her.

“I’m sure you will.”

cool things and interesting stuff I saw in the new spooky month episode and just me obsessing over it lol

WARNING!: major spoilers for the new spooky month episode

I really liked Father Gregor because honestly his design is cool in my opinion and I liked that even though he's a priest who in other shows I've seen are almost always made as good and flawless people but in spooky month Father Gregor still has his flaws especial his flaw with how fast he went to blaming Skid and Pump for being the ones who caused Moloch to be freed (there kinda at fault but c'mon their kids)

also Moloch has to have my FAVORITE design for a demon I've seen in media I love how he has the hooves like one's that goats have since how much goats are associated with demons, I adore the furnace type of thing seen on his stomach, and I like how his hands and claws look

and also because Moloch created in my personal the funniest scene in the episode when he panics when his name is revealed to Father Gregor by Pump

also some things about Moloch possession it seems that he can just posses anyone he decides to posses and that he can also posses and control multiple people at a time and when he is not possessing a body he is either in his demon form or in a liquid form

final thing about Moloch is that I kinda feel bad for him for some reason (I think it's just because of how sad Skid and Pump were when seeing that Father Gregor killed him)

also feel incredibly bad for Dexters mom poor girl had to experience the loss of her son and then be lured and killed by the same demon who was the reason her son died

also can we PLEASE give Lila a break poor girl is going through actual hell

Pumps eyes seem to only be blue when he's in a very dark area

and I think from the implications and things Father Gregor said I think Skids father is dead maybe dying sometime when he was in the cult

love how Ignacio just without a second thought shoots Moloch and I think the scene is a reference to Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 specificality the Garbage Day scene since he shoots Moloch right after putting down a garbage can

also speaking of Ignacio I think he might have been an ex cult member since the picture frame where he's holding the birthday cake I think that might be Skids dad also holding the cake with him and if he is a ex cult member it explains why he's boarded up and barricaded his house since they might have tried to kill him in the past

father of the year award goes to John (also Jack) because of how caring this man is to comforting Skid and Pump when they start thinking they aren't good enough and are a problem to their parents and of how much a good father he was to his daughter

love every scene we got with Patty during this episode (also she's very pretty :])

also thought this guy with the briefcase was a reference to Doug from the Fnaf movie lol

also it's revealed in the ending of the episode seen on the NewGrounds version of the episode that the two thief's and the Candy Dealer are apart of the cult so I guess I was right about them having something to do with the cult in my theory

also we get to see the spider monster we saw in a sketch Sr Pelo posted (can't find and if I did couldn't add it since image limit:[) I think it might be the main villain of the next episode and It seems to be in some way connected with the mannequin/Skids dad from the mannequin theory (if it's cannon idk) since at the end of the episode the spider picks the mannequin up and looks at it

we get to see the The Eyes of the Universe in this episode and I was right in my theory that he was located under the cults mansion since we see the cultist take Father Gregor their to be sacrificed in the end of the episode

also Roy seems to be losing it at this point

More mouthwashing thoughts

Some things I love about mouthwashing is the subversion of tropes

I got the vibe that both Curly and Jimmy came from the same disenfranchised (probably economically) background. Their relationship started long before their jobs together at the Pony Express. This is classic, two impoverished kids work hard to improve their lot in life and their bonds if friendship/brotherhood help them do it.

Except it doesn't. Curly works hard and gets to the top of the ladder at Pony Express. But Jimmy? We've seen what it looks like when Jimmy has any responsibility. Jimmy likely needed every good word from Curly that he could get to get where he ended up. It is even stated in the game that he would not have been able to make co-pilot if it were not for the good word from Curly.

Traditionally, this trope is used to show that, actually, everybody has the capacity for good no matter where they come from and they can work hard to achieve anything. In this game, we see something that we don't see often in this type of media- some people are going to act badly and hurt other people and you can't just turn the other check. If you do nothing about the people in your life that hurt others, that bully and abuse, you are failing them- not just the abuser, but the victims. By standing by them, by falling back on brotherhood and the bonds of friendship, you end up complicit in the abuse they cause.

The other one I want to talk about it Swansea. Swansea is a classic "grumpy old man that talks about how he hates or is annoyed by the young guy he's stuck with, but is hiding that he cares deeply about them and wants better for them than the life he had." I think most people saw this coming a mile away. There is a twist though and I don't know if everybody caught it (or if I'm just making it up tbh). In one of if not the final scene between Swansea and Jimmy, Swansea reveals his backstory, how he saw his future and imminent destruction from his alcoholism and got cleaned up. This is also something we see a lot in media.

But Swansea then says something different. He may have started a family and got a job and done everything he was supposed to do to be an upstanding member of society, but the best times he ever had was when he was drunk. He knew the drinking would kill him, but it seemed like the sobriety was killing him too, just more slowly. Even his description when he cracked into the first bottle of mouthwash, that sobriety was like an angry, red cyst popping, like sobriety was a horrible burden that he was carrying, that was hurting him every day, that he was happy to be rid of it.

I think it's honestly a refreshing character choice. Sober characters, specifically characters that used to have active substance use problems and are now abstaining, are relatively new in media. There used to be the drunkard and the opium addict (which morphed into whatever drug was en Vogue at the time), caricatures of temperance, and "normal" people- people who maybe drank or whatever but it wasn't a problem for them and they certainly didn't cause problems for others. Now we have characters that used to drink/use, but they're sober now or they're trying to get sober and it's often one of the most important things about them. And it's been very important to have those characters! Taking the first step in showing that alcohol and drug users are multifaceted human beings

Swansea takes it a step further. Swansea is real and raw. He got sober. He did what he was supposed to do. He got a job, he started a family- and it all sucks. The world is awful and it's better viewed through drunk goggles. Sober life isn't all it's cracked up to be. People use for a reason.

But he still cares about Daisuke. The world has been awful to him, but if he can do something for this kid on his first real job trying, to make the world a little softer and gentler for him, he will. He won't do it for himself (why would he? He doesn't deserve it (not my opinion, the opinion of someone deep in the throes of substance abuse)), but for Daisuke? He will.

The Folgers "Incest" Commercial and the Internet

the internet doesn't know how to engage with things that make them uncomfortable or self reflective and im a killjoy

TODAY ON: The Internet is once again Hitting My Buttons and I have been Enabled (shoutout to @fatalism-and-villainy for reminding me of my BEEF WITH THIS SPECIFIC MEME) so now you are all going to listen to me rant about why I get so fucking annoyed with the meme that grew out of the Folgers Brother and Sister Commercial.

This is the commercial in question:

Is the acting weird and stilted? Yes. Does the whole thing remind me of bring a teenager and having awkward interactions with the family members I haven't seen in a long time? Also yes. Does this commercial commit the crime of being suggestive? Does it commit the crime of making it seem like the brother and sister are in a *gasp. pearl clutching. etc.* incestuous relationship? No. It doesn't. The acting is bad. The camera angles suck. The lighting is terrible. The script could be more natural. These are valid criticisms of the ad. The fact that a meme culture jumped up around the siblings in this ad making them into an incest joke makes me wonder if we all need to go back to elementary school Language Arts.

We're here to talk about how one of the reasons this commercial took off so fast as a meme is likely because it showed an awkwardly acted familial relationship that made people uncomfortable because it showed an attempt sincerity and sincerity is cringe. The internet around the time the memes took off was full of people who would rather make jokes about being affectionate toward your sibling than ever admit that sibling relationships are complicated things and that *gasp* being sincere with a sibling you have a good relationship with isn't uncommon! Admitting that you like your sibling might ruin your cool guy street online cred! Admitting you don't get the joke might make people make fun of you!*

Admitting that you're afraid of self-reflection and being forced to confront why you would rather these two characters be in an incestuous relationship than just be siblings is scary!

AND THAT is why this commercial annoys me! Because these memes are seem like they are laughing at a poorly acted aid that at least made an attempt to be sincere about how it portrayed a brother and sister relationship! Is the commercial cringe? Yes. Does the acting suck? Yes. Is the commercial implying anything? No. It's not. You guys just can't imagine something being cringe and sincere and are stuck on the heteronormative imagining that any relationship between a man and a woman has to be sexual if it is to mean anything.

i have several playlists that are several hours long with a couple different flavors of the really specific kind of instrumental music i need to do mass quantities of data entry. these are now all poisoned by horrible memories of my last two jobs so i'm slowly building new ones. a great candidate is OASIS, off the REDLINE soundtrack. REDLINE (2009, dir. Koike) is an extremely horny anime movie about driving really fast, being true to yourself in spite of corporate overlords, sports betting, and fucking.

i think this was a scene with background club or cafe music? electronica instrumental with a little bit of a groove and a very particular mid-aughts sound. you know when powder coating is extremely matte but also extremely sparkly? spotify.

but her most recent investigation, "can this shitty vibrator actually give you malware?" is fascinating. any job that can legitimately claim vibrators as a buisness expense and perform a teardown is fascinating to me.

there are many movies on tubi that i have like. name recognition of but have never actually seen, so i'm starting to work my way through things that aren't noir or obscure westerns. like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000, dir. Lee).

the practial effects in this movie are insane. the wirework is insane. wirework insane. this is the dreamiest and most beautiful chase/fight scene i've ever seen and they're zipping around a bamboo forest.

we're going to have to live with this imperfect screenshot ok this laptop is Extremely old. the interior sets often look like theater sets (complimentary). just a stunningly beautiful movie with the sickest action scenes you’ve ever seen. plot a little choppy but forgivable imo. i know this is regarded as one of the finest movies of all time, not just one of the finest martial arts movies of all times, so saying anything feels a little like giving it a dollar store plastic trophy. i liked it and i had fun. watching a critically acclaimed non-american good movie is good for the brain steeped in lackluster american westerns, i think.

finished richard scarey's tarreytown :) including that horrible rich guy who wanted me to kill some guardians for ??? reasons. i am pretty confident about killing hinox (is the plural of hinox, hinox?), wizzrobes, and most lizalfos if i can get the drop on em but i am Not confident about killing actively moving guardians without guardian arrows, which is an expensive way of doing business. due to reliably one-shotting the wizzrobes with revali's bow, i am running into the interesting problem of always having a glut of magical weapons. which leads me to go fuck around the extreme hot and cold areas those magic weapons are good for. and less fucking around the normie areas i actually want to fuck around.

got the good sword at thirteen hearts, i stopped short at twelve hearts gone and the deku tree called me a pussy. i unfontunately did not screenshot that. hey did you know there's a korok on the deku tree's head whose life's purpose seems to be riddles?

i was looking for a 5 star speed horse but after catching and releasing four different solid black horses this is the best one (4 str, 4 speed, 5 stamina) i found. maybe I’ll shoot for a bright chestnut with lots of chrome for my speedy horse, the equine equivalent of a red convertible.

very funky conincidence on the grasslands behind the lord of the mountain's spring. not identical, bc the lead horse doesn't have facial markings, but what are the odds of that huh. i wish grays in this game didn't look so chalky and washed out, i love a gray horse in real life.

i think it's some bullshit that you have to fight your way into this spring, get told "go get a dragon scale", deal with all that, fight your way BACK into the spring, and then be presented with a Major Test of Strength shrine. c'mon just give it to me!!!

game continues to be very bad at spitting out riders next to horses or donkeys EXCEPT!!! for this doctor. i didn't know hyrule had traveling doctors! i quite honestly didn't think they had the techonology, given that the state of medicine in hyrule is very mortar and pestle based!

the game gave me a tooltip like "make friends with dogs! they'll lead you to treasure!" and i was like What but it does actually work, you just have to target them in the camera first and then feed them several hunks of meat. bonkers game. how many other goddamn mechanics are there that i've missed???

next steps: shrine hunting. i have like 50 out of 120 which is wild to me. i played this game two years ago, got to about a hundred shrines, and managed to forget where they all fucking are. yes my shrine sensor is always on. there's probably at least twenty in central hyrule, which is not a place i touched much on my list playthrough, also the last two memories i need are in there. i have filled out a good chunk of the compendium (completely filled the materials pages) but idk if i will be a completionist about it. there are so so so so so many weapons variants. i am cheating a bit and looking up the animals i missed (mostly a lot of bugs and fish) but one of the entries is for patricia, the royal sand seal. i would not have ever thought to take a picture of the named sand seal, i'm sorry game but that's a bit obtuse.

not much progress on the cross stitch or job fronts, but since i finally have a balcony, i planted peas and beans from @shiny-good-rock and basil from @morrak than have been languishing in a box for several years, the basil had an okay germination rate so my fingers are crossed re: peas and beans.

i am a bit annoyed about marigolds. maybe it's a bit too early for them here, or maybe they're not as popular as they were in the northeast? i tried like five different big box stores and indie nurseries, only one indie nursery had any and they were very pest-ridden. i would like marigolds, as friends for my tomatoes.

it is currently 11:40 PM CST as i type this so tomorrow i'll add something with a garden layout and what varieties i planted.

Since you’ve been doing a fair amount of Batman posting, mind if you list your favorite members of the Gotham Rouges?

Okay. I’ll list about 10 of my faves, though we’ll be counting backwards here.

Also I'll be listing the variations of my faves whom I like the most to make things clearer.

Number 10. Poison Ivy (B:TAS) - If we're talking about character alone, this is the blueprint for literally every present day version of Poison Ivy, however this specific incarnation of the character has aged pretty well. She's every bit the dangerous eco-warrior that she makes herself out to be and will gladly turn someone into a tree for bulldozing a forest, but there is still a level of humanity to her character much like half the villains in the show.

Number 9. Mr. Freeze (B:TAS & Batman Beyond) - I feel like this is a "to the surprise of absolutely nobody" moment, but come on! Mr. Freeze here not only was made into a more tragic character compared to his early comic counterpart, but he actually had a whole arc across the entirety of B:TAS which ended at Batman Beyond. Victor Fries was a scientist trying to save his wife, Nora, from a rare disease, so he put her into a cryopod to preserve her until he found a cure. Then he and Nora were almost killed, but Nora was still kept on ice, while Victor got turned into a literal cold hearted monster. Even after Nora was finally cured, Victor was forever unable to be with her due to his own condition worsening to the point where he was just a head in a jar, angry with the world. A couple of decades later, and he is given a new body by the Wayne Powers CEO, Derek Powers, and while things were finally going well at first and Victor was reforming as soon as he had the chance, things went horribly wrong again, resulting in Victor dying as Mr. Freeze. I may have missed some details here, but yeah that's a summary of this sad ice man.

Number 8. Dr. Crane/Scarecrow (Nolan Trilogy) - Crane wasn't a big villain in the grand scheme of the trilogy, but my god Cillian Murphy does a great job with the character. Like I wish that his supervillain outfit wasn't just a bag over his face, but Scarecrow manages to be quite the dangerous loon with a mask of sanity in Batman Begins, an active member of the underworld in The Dark Knight, and the guy actively sending folks to their deaths in The Dark Knight Rises. Could we have had more of him? Yes. Did he use up his screen time well? Absolutely. Though his fear toxin could've been infinitely wilder.

Number 7. The Phantasm (B:TAS but movie) - The Phantasm is the literal best darker counterpart to Batman a lot of levels.

Number 6. Harley Quinn (B:TAS yet again) - The minor side villainess turned breakout character of the show. If anyone has seen B:TAS and then seen the rest of the media she's in, then you know why this is the best version of her. A good amount of things about the character being based around her actress (R.I.P Arleen Sorkin), her interactions with half the cast, Peak HarIvy content, the best representation of how bad her situation with her abusive ex was, and the perfect mixture between being a not-so-great-person and a precious lil' thing who deserves better.

Number 5. Harvey Dent, Two-Face, & The Judge (B:TAS) - The first well developed Two-Face, and the definitive. I mean he was never a bad villain, but the character was never utilized to the fullest like he was in B:TAS. Harvey Dent was a good guy with an other half that was the literal manifestation of his bottled up anger, an anger that turned into something else entirely after the left side of his face got blown off. Now Harvey and his other half start their own crusade to eradicate organized crime by taking it over from within. In other words, Two-Face here wanted to originally wanted to achieve something good through something bad, and yes a lot of it is due to a fair coin flip. However Harvey began to disagree with some of the shit his other half was getting up to, and as a result developed a third personality that was so separate from both himself and Two-Face that it tried killing both of them and, by extension, himself. This third entity would end up being The Judge, a ruthless, wraith-like vigilante with a judge's attire. So after being detained in Arkham for good, all three Harvey's are literally stuck with each other, and in a spin-off comic set directly after that whole situation with The Judge, Two-Face was given another double headed coin that would constantly come up on the "good side," and spent a lot of time dismantling his criminal enterprise, before doing (another) suicide attempt. This take on Two-Face was something else.

Number 4. Oswald Cobblepot (Gotham) - If I were to list everything that this smug snake has done, along with some of the shit that happened to him, we'd be here all day. However, this is the most well characterized iteration of The Penguin that we've ever had, in my humble opinion.

Number 3. Catwoman (Batman Returns) - I'm dying on this hill gentlemen. Despite not being... anything like her comic counterpart, outside of name, confidence, etc, Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina is something great in her own right.

Number 2. The Riddler (The Batman 2022) - Turning the Riddler into a a catholic, terrorist, cult leader that looked up to a young and angry Year-Two Batman, while also keeping the core elements of his character the same is something I'll never stop praising. He's still intelligent, he's still creative, he's still on the verge of breakdowns when his ego is badly damaged, etc.

Number 1. The Joker (B:TAS & Batman Beyond) - This is a "to the surprise to absolutely nobody" moment, though in this case I cannot be blamed. B:TAS understood the assignment and provided the definitive iteration of The Joker, completely inspired by his early comic appearances and some elements from Jack Nicholson's take on the character. An ex-mafiosi turned Clown Prince of Crime that lives to only spread misery across Gotham in the most creative way possible with a smile on his face. That was the idea that Paul Dini and Bruce Timm ran with when conceptualizing this bastard, and they just explored the concept for all its worth. Not only that, but this was the first time that Mark Hamill ever voiced this bastard, and it was just perfect casting. Overall, nostalgia got me to re-examine this take on the character, and I can easily say that without a doubt, this is the best Joker.

heyy i was wondering, since we already know Cam really likes music (especially kpop), if we could know what the other characters' taste in music is like? mostly how often they listen to it, what genres they like and whatnot. just out of curiosity :)

and what about movie genres? we know Deja and MC often watch movies together while Deja paints her nails, but does she care for the genre? and everyone else?

Music Tastes

Haha now for your ask, we actually have a scene for players in the extended demo regarding this! It's a bit of a spoiler in the context of the scene's theme so I won't disclose it quite yet (sorryyyy gotta wait for the extended demo first ahdakldh) but I can say this:

Elio and Cameron often listen to music. For Cameron, it's because it's one of their favorite pastimes. Plus, in their opinion, music makes the commute to and from campus faster.

Elio on the other hand listens to music a lot because of the dance team. Anddd because he's dabbled a bit with playing (if others haven't seen the previous post yet, he's our guy with a ton of skills so he actually knows how to play a couple of instruments).

Though they've got their reasons, Cameron's definitely coming out on top with the highest stats on their Spotify wrap.

Third would be Reynah and actually you don't get to learn about her favorite type of music since she's not in the scene so I will disclose her favs! She's big on old school music, early late 1980's and early 1990's! Anything goes within that time frame, hip-hop, pop, rock, ballads, etc.. She does listen to modern music, but she's got a couple of fond memories of her parents playing older tunes during car rides so they've stuck with her.

Deja, Percy, and Jamie have their favorites of course but their numbers don't come as close to the other three.

Speaking of music, we curated some playlists about the cast! Some players already came across the playlists on our art director's Spotify that is catered to the idea of them, so songs that give off Cameron, Deja, etc. energy. And I actually got to work on making playlists about the music they'd listen to.

You can listen to the first since it's public. This is what the some of the dev team members listen to for the Keyframes vibes when we're working! And you can check out their page for specific cast members. But I'll share the ones about their music taste when I get them done!

Movies/Media Taste

Oh movies is a cute thought!

Unfortunately, Deja doesn't care to watch movies, hence why she opts to do her nails during it. She's got a habit of looking things up ahead of time as well so "watching" isn't something she likes to do. That being said, she likes mystery genres or things that she can think about-- because the twists and themes are still interesting to her even if she spoils it for herself lol

Cameron's got their favorites when they're by themself but they're big on anything and everything with company! Ghibli movies are a good thing to shout to get their attention (they've seen Ponyo like too many times to count haha). Cringey stuff are a safe and hilarious genre for them to put on when they crash at your place, too.

But since MC is a part of their dynamic trio, a lot of what Deja and Cameron watch is ultimately shaped by MC's likes too! Since Deja doesn't have too much of an opinion and Cameron's down to watch anything, your likes are their likes! Granted they'll tell you if it's reallyyyy bad because that's what friends are for lol

Reynah's not too big on films either- but in the way that she just doesn't watch them by herself. Usually, it's other people inviting her to watch one, and she's always happy to tag along and share any opinions about the viewing (they're usually in good light if not critical). That being said, she does have her favorites! It's just hard to say she likes one genre when she hasn't seen everything and she's found gems across multiple genres.

Reynah, at some point probably: I love Night at the Museum, does that mean I like fantasy or comedy the best? Nope!

For the guysssss, you can expect foreign movies (Japanese, Thai, and Euro movies are often exchanged since they've got their favorites from childhood), and romcoms and early '00-'10 movies. The latter is because they firmly believe that's the best era of movies. Home Alone, Lord of the Rings, 27 Dresses, The Last Holiday, etc, etc.

Percy, at one point: They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Elio, shaking his head solemnly: Kids these days won't get to know true movie magic.

Jamie tilts his head: Sorry, what's High School Musical?

P & E: WHAT

Aha yeah, Jamie didn't grow up watching the same things they did. He knows some of them like LOTR but that's just because it's a big franchise. Before his roommates educated him on early American romcoms and feel good movies (which included an HSM marathon and the entire soundtrack on repeat at their place), Jamie stuck to the classics/big names- things that have left a mark in cinema history like the Godfather and the Breakfast Club.

That kind of media is actually what he, Deja, and Reynah bond over. It's the symbolism or the overarching theme that tends to keep their interests so they'll have discussions about it if it comes up. Ah, and, horror. All three of them are completely unbothered by it as a genre and boy are there plenty to talk about the human psyche and behavior there.

If I had to summarize everything:

Jamie, Deja, and Reynah like films that invoke thought. Especially as people who don't often watch movies.

Meanwhile, Cameron, Percy, and Elio are all for the ones that evoke emotion. It's a good movie if they cry. It's a good movie if they're shouting at the screen. It's fantastic film if they get to do both!

Other things about movies for them:

Percy won't watch any horror- nope don't even think about asking him to.

Elio will look at a stunt or a choreography in a film and attempt it himself at least once.

Jamie is the first in his seat with a bowl of popcorn when the guys are doing their movie nights. He also has a sour view of Howl from Howl's Moving Castle since some people have said he looks like the character.

Cameron would suggest repeats a lot during your movie nights- their favorites are their favorites for a reason.

Deja rarely reacts to movies- but she will never recover from Grave of the Fireflies.

Reynah, freshman year, had been invited to 18 different playtimes at the town's cinema over the course of two months and, yes, she saw all of them.

succession s4 e1 recap: bridget random-fuck and the logan roy selfie fiasco

happy return of succession, everyone! and with that, my completely unhinged and ridiculously time consuming recaps. i was honestly not sure i wanted to go down this rabbit hole for another season, but given that it is our last, i think i'll have to.

my coping mechanism currently is complete and utter denial. let's see how long that lasts.

we start off the episode at the most depressing birthday party there ever was. did you think the season one birthday party was bad? at least there was baseball and logan nearly dying. in season four it's all greg calling himself an honorary kid and fingering a girl called bridget in the guest room.

something tells me logan is regretting teaming up with tom and greg right about now.

in california, the siblings are pitching investors on a new media venture. as per usual, there's a lot of bullshitting involved and i can't tell if kendall is high or not during all of it, but it's nice to see the sibs be a team - at least for now.

back in new york, kerry is not happy with greg bringing bridget random-fuck to logan's party. couldn't agree more.

as for shiv, she is totally fine with the idea of tom getting a drink with naomi pierce.

this is definitely the face of someone who is fine:

if this was any other show, i'd launch the theory that shiv is pregnant right here. but this is succession, so that seems unlikely.

also, maybe i'm just projecting, knowing that snooks is pregnant.

either way, we've got a fantastic shiv episode on our hands. can't wait for sarah to win all the awards.

connor is polling at one percent, but is getting squeezed. as willa says, it's all super greedy, since his opponents already have all the other percents.

frankly rude to do my guy con and the conheads dirty this way. what would an election be without an unhinged billionaire, i mean, i can't remember. it's the american way.

anyway, this is the look of someone who has just been reassured he will still be part of the business, even if he gets a divorce:

bridget random-fuck keeps causing problems. first, she posts about a pierce family member being at the birthday party on social media, then she asks logan for a selfie saying, and i kid you not, kar-ching.

all the unhinged gerri kellman lesbians immediately notice her in the background, judging.

bridget is like an unhinged version of greg in the first episode of season one. good for her.

meanwhile the birthday boy is having a great time without his kids. nothing screams birthday like contemplating your own mortality.

i've also seen some posts that are like "wow so much has happened in ONE year", indicating that this is logan's 81st birthday, but i'm not sure. they don't mention his age specifically, so i think we can just live with the ambiguity of whatever timeline we are comfortable with.

i personally think it's been a few years at least. if not, shiv and tom's marriage would have lasted what, six, seven months? rude.

after shiv's phone call with tom, the kids start realizing that logan is planning to buy PGM (again), and they immediately back out of the business venture they have been planning for the last few months.

and the award for most delusional goes to kendall for this comment:

roman is the only one that's not into buying up a dying media conglomerate because he is a girlboss. he's really the only one who wants to build up a new company from scratch and i'm so proud of him.

what a journey we roman fans have been on. truly.

logan takes his best pal, colin, on a date, and we realize, once again, that logan respects the people who work for him more than he ever will his children, because his children have been given everything all their lives.

logan does a whole "is there anything after death" shakespearean monologue and the odds that he will die by the end of this season are forever in our favor. this pleases me:)

connor wants to use his wedding as a political stunt, which makes me think the timeline of this season will be super short. will all the episodes take place during the ten days leading up to the election?

seems strange, given that they travel to norway, but it's an interesting thought.

greg has sex in the guest room and logan has CCTV. or at least tom wants greg to believe he does. anyway, i don't really want to get into it. poor bridget.

gerri, it seems, is still out in the cold after the dickpick ordeal. truly destabilizing to see our queen on shaky ground, but also good for her that she gives less of a fuck, leaving karl to look like this:

anyway, logan doesn't take the news that his kids also want to buy pierce well.

logan is at home, alone, watching ATN and calling cyd to complain. i honestly can't tolerate cyd slander. that being said, i do hope we get a war of the networks between ATN and PGM moving forward.

That is a trait that many children of Athena, to my knowledge, do lack, as they are so caught up within their own webs to properly contemplate the outside. This makes you a fantastic cabin leader also, and the dynamics affected by how you have had siblings before in the past makes them respect you. How does this connect with Athena? She is also the god of war, someone who must take charge, someone who needs great organization and insight to hear every soldier out. You get where I’m going?

𖠳 also, you have that sense of justice that Athena children has that explicitly do not always appear on many other demigods of other cabins— but the Athena cabin has members who pursue their own sense of justice. And I believe you fit right in, lawyer girl.

𖠳 I think you humble yourself enough, and that sort of balances out what would be your fatal flaw enough to help you survive many encounters. And I also believe putting you in this cabin will help you and the others remark your findings on one another’s traits and what you guys can do to exchange pointers and avoid situations like being clouded by pride, etc, which may lead to inevitable doom. You guys wish to learn, and to support one another in your pursuits would be a better place to grow instead of being thrown into the cat fight that is the Nike cabin (who does more well for people who have higher self esteem, especially bouncing back very quickly from even a big loss).

𖠳 your fiery attitude reminds me a lot like nemesis, and your seeking reminds me of Nike. But Nike’s cabin is more focused on winning and winning, and not much on being better as a whole. No shade. But you have the legacy of Dike, and it is not just because of your wish to become a lawyer, where this goddess of justice incorporates, but also, from your compassion for the people around you, and how you are trying to get over your judgement. I think it draws a good parallel, the legacy of a goddess of judgement and law, yet breaking away and finding ways to incorporate more representation and understanding within the courtroom. “Anna! ANNA, can you hear me?!” You hear an echo from a friend’s voice, distant. That’s the satyr who brought you here, separated as the dusk fell.

The next following events goes like this:

In that moment, you devise a plan. There is something that looks like a well, and a heavy metal that can be wedged forward. You sprint, purposefully catching its eye, and run past the well. Its huge, lumpy body crashes down into it, unable to avoid it due to thick oak wood flanking where you could squeeze through. Then, before it can come out, you push the metal— it does not budge. Your veins turn to ice.

Is that all you have? A voice echoes in your head.

It cannot be, not if you wish for your life.

There is something else you can do, and swiftly, you manage to hull the clunk of metal down with a leverage. It smashes the spider into bits.

And as you stare down, the sparkling outline of a holographic owl appears on your head.

It turns out, the clunk of metal was celestial bronze, which was there to supplement the Hephaestus cabin’s latest projects. They’re absolutely mad at you for ruining the newest order, but Chiron chastises them, and welcome you with open arms.

Sorry for how lackluster this is… I didn’t really have much idea how you outsmart the monster, but that’s a main contribution to your claiming.

𖠳 WHAT IS YOUR ABILITIES? YOUR FLAWS? YOUR STRENGTHS? EVERYTHING?

Have no fear— I’ve created a chart entirely for that!

I believe the only two I should elaborate on is number 2 and number 4. The reason why I have chosen number 2, is that from your personality, I see a more self-degrading side to you, as you attempt to press down your pride. This tells me that immediately after you or someone else directly points out your sense of hubris, you acknowledge how bad it is, and while I think it clouds your vision, but from your description, it seems your weakness are more settled on your judgement itself, whether it be clouded by anger or whatnot. However, I can moreso see you on the verge of indecision, weighing your choices just a bit too much. Perhaps you miss the opportunity to make a choice from how harshly you judge your own actions, scared of choosing the wrong one, or making the wrong decision, leading you further down a path of troubles.

𖠳 WEAPONS — A shield, and a Crossbow.

𖠳 Thinking of your build further, and as a child of Athena, I think you would shine brighter while pulling strings at the back. Not only that, thinking of your descriptor for your body also deigns me to think that, and additionally, a crossbow is a hunter’s weapon. You need to be athletically capable of running around, and I believe you can do just that, especially since Athena presides over war and combat. You would need to be precise, and grounded enough to use the weapon, but also versatile enough to change the trajectory at a whim.

𖠳 I gave you a shield both in honor of you inheriting a sort of will from Athena, and for further protection. I think you are more of a protector, being able to save your friends and teammates and shield them rather than having a full offensive ahead! kind of energy. When it involves their lives. If its capture the flag, I can see you taking a lot more risk.

𖠳 while the strawberry field of course has to be your favorite, acting picking the strawberries during the summer makes you wish for death. Better hope some child of Apollo with a rare ability to control light softens the sunlight there 😭

𖠳 there’s this one demigod you get into daily arguments with, but it isn’t draining surprisingly to talk to them. Later, you find out why. They’re only arguing with you.. for your attention lol. Here and there, there are other demigods who wants to be friends with you, or has an elementary crush on you, and wants your attention in some way, and they take you being a child of Athena as a way to scratch wits with you. A lot of people like challenging you for no reason other than the fact that you’re the head of the Athena cabin.

𖠳 What do you mean you can’t present? 😭 alright, they’re all nerds, but many of them are also the type to wish to get over things quickly. They’ll take care of it as long as you do your job well, and settling down other children of Athena, which is something you excel at.

𖠳 your favorite activity at camp is Capture the Flag, where you can show off your strategic skills and leadership abilities. You’re the captain of the blue team, and often comes up with clever plans to outsmart the red team. You’re respected and admired by your teammates, but also feared and envied by her opponents. Anna has a friendly rivalry with Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon and the leader of the red team.

𖠳 i feel like you’ll definitely hate the sound of the conch horn, and prefer to stay indoors to keep away from the insects in the grass and woods. This is more convenient for those who wants to find you, since you’re in exactly only three locations unless you have chores to run.

𖠳 your half siblings love your baking, and munching on your goodies while studying or reading or doing whatever they are doing is such a great destressor for them, and is enough to dash away any hate or resentment inside the cabin or any other places.

𖠳 you hang out with me lots 😼 and you also go out with Percy whenever the two of you are free. You rest under an umbrella as you watch him surf, sometimes going with him. Number one OTP of the camp 💀

let's see, first on the list is the current au hyperfixation!! This AU doesn't have a name yet unfortunately so I'm not sure how I would refer to it. Besides, that one is a secret for now! I might talk about it eventually after I workshop it to a good sharing point if you guys are like. genuinely interested. You could also try your luck with Tae, maybe she'll tell you guys something funny about the au??? This art post is actually heavily associated with the AU in question, so... have that???? I guess??? (As for an AU name... mhm. I'm listening to Hell is Forever as I type this section, and My Love is Hellfire is a song with heavy meaning to the AU, so let's call this AU the Hellfire AU? Do you guys like that as a name?)

The next AU in the workshop is the Dark Decora Hospital AU!! You might have seen me post some of the designs here! As for the status of this AU in the workshop, this au is FULLY workshopped minus the small lore details!! That means we have a full and extended cast of characters, area maps (although they have to be drawn), official lore for the characters, and more!! There will likely be future cards and designs for every cast member? Right now, the AU is in the workshop because of there is a protagonist shift! We're moving away from the Check-Up Area and going to the Morgue... scary stuff. And, because of that shift, we're moving from the protagonist being "Narcissus" to her brother, who we'll call... "Husk", since the accident left him a "husk" of his former self. haha. I'm hilarious. /j

Also, it's technically Narcissus' birthday today... whoops!

after that, next on the AU workshopping table is... the bubble universes. This one is a little bit more of a personal side project for me as of late, but basically, these are AU bubble universes based off of video games and other digital medias. The bubble universe I'm currently working on is known as the SIM bubble universes (there's 5 of them) and the YaMaH bubble universe! Each bubble universe is it's own finite storyline, and it basically follows the timeline of its source material, just with me and my friends' muses in these universes! It's a fun little side project for when I'm bored. Of course, you guys are already familiar with some of our bubble universes! Like the Dark Deception/DSAF AU! Or the IDV x Crossover Source AU! These, though, are considered "bigger" bubbles that technically earn them their own AU titles! But they technically belong to the bubble au umbrella. These ones being workshopped are technically small enough that they don't warrant their own titles, but eventually, they'll get fully fleshed out and combined into their own AUs.

I hope that makes sense!

And... finally on the AU workshopping list... is the Roundtrip AU!! Well, to be more specific, I'm working on the first section: Golden Land! Uhh, to make this short, this section of the Roundtrip AU focuses on Aventurine and those involved in this side of the story. It's also connected **directly** to another AU involving Sparkle that I have with Tae, which is why it's getting workshopped! But, while I have it here, we might as well connect it to the other pieces/groups in the AU, you know? This one isn't very far along in its workshopping though, since it's a downtime type of work. I get ideas for it every once in a while, so I'll put it on a sticky note somewhere and dip /j

after watching muppet tv series episodes basically at random for a bit, i finally finished all of the jim henson hour!!

some thoughts below, but overall i really enjoyed it, even though the shifts between tones in some episodes was kinda jarring at first lol. i feel like more people should know about this show, especially after seeing all the technology they used in the secrets of the muppets episode.

digit is still a character created specifically to my interests and i am still so so sad he isn't in anything else :( literally just a socially awkward semi-robotic latex puppet who loves synth music. he is perfect and they threw him in the closet never to be seen again.

all the other new characters were very nice, but i especially enjoyed the "bean bunny is there to be cute so no one else has to" bit. while i also appreciate him as "guy to throw around" it's a fun added layer to his character!

i think sci-fi -> ocean transition was the most jarring to me, after the sci-fi episode ended with turning louie anderson into a non-marketable plushie i was expecting ocean to be more silliness, and it was up until clifford tells the story of how ted danson ruined the ocean and kermit solemnly says goodnight. and then i still had to watch lighthouse island after this!

i did have to get used to the jim henson hour -> storyteller/other segments transitions but i am very glad i did not skip them or the non muppetelevision specials. my favorites were probably the true bride, the soldier and death, dog city (MUPPET DOGS ARE PERFECT!!!!) and the song of the cloud forest (as a dedicated member of dave goelz nation). i also got unexpectedly invested in living with dinosaurs even though i'm not sure much was explained or resolved that well, the human cast was really good and dog is such a good muppet (why is there no official plush of him!!)

i knew gorilla television wasn't in it much but i didn't expect them to only be in 2 episodes, one of them being in the batch that didn't in the original run. they could've done so much more......i liked their concept as being "above" muppets despite their segments not being that much more cool or complex lol

favorite episode was probably videotape? i might have to rewatch to define it but also like. the music just keeps on rolling along. all night party. the true bride. banger after banger

also jim himself is funny too. the concept of the thought lion for him to bounce off of is so good because in the true bride he's a mystical giftgiver and to jim he is just his really weird cat. awesome dynamic

i really wish more people had watched this show cause it has a lot of fun bits!!! it's so weird to me that so much muppet stuff is lost media or could have been lost media if it wasn't recorded, and this is one of them!! my ideal blu-ray now is a blu-ray of all the episodes of this restored/hd plus a selection of other movies/works by jim (i gotta watch some of his pre muppet show work, including his weird experimental films) but it will probably never happen cause of copyright stuff </3.

you guys are good, dw! i wouldn't necessarily call it bad rep (although you could definitely make a case for that), but it's definitely among the worst rep of 2023! banban and gollum shits below the cut:

for me, the distinction between bad rep and worst rep goes something like this:

bad rep is a portrayal of plurality that ends up being harmful in its depiction- think something like split. the movie goes above and beyond trying to demonize its system villain, and (though it did bring some visibility to plurals) ultimately i think it's safe to say it did more harm than good.

worst rep, at least to me, is where the characters' source game/movie/whatever is flawed in however it executes its depiction! here is where gollum & smeagol come in also. the TL;DR is that, in-game, they're a system of 2 members who were formed after smeagol encountered the One Ring and fuckshit happened. their plurality is actually a mechanic in-game.

here's some screencaps from the gollum game. because gollum & smeagol are the main characters of the game, someone came up with the decision to let the player take sides in internal arguments. this, on paper, is a cool mechanic! however, in practice, this concept didn't work out. because the game sucked.

so for the sake of the argument, let's boil it down to this:

good and bad are a scale of the representation's harmfulness vs accuracy/positive portrayal, and best to worst is a scale of the rep's source media and its quality. of course, i think this is all much more complicated than what we've got going on here, but it's a start for what we're gonna do.

so far, we've basically got this kind of thing going on:

i haven't seen split outside of the plural community's reaction to the movie, so i think i'm not equipped to rank if the movie itself was the best-of whenever-the-hell-it-came-out or not. besides, my opinion is inherently biased anyway.

garten of banban, on the other hand, i feel more equipped to talk about!

let me just start off, plain and simple. i can't find a single metric by which these games (specifically 3 and 4- they discuss and portray banban's plurality the most, and came out this year (i think)) would be the "best of 2023". i think, in terms of relatively well-known games, we can safely mark this game as among the worst- which is why i included it with gollum on my previous post.

in terms of good vs bad, i also happen to think banban (the character, not the game)'s plurality is also not fantastic rep. i'll spare you the details (because i fucking hated every second of witnessing this game), but essentially, banban is composed of 2 "sides"- the memories and core personality of his genetic donor, dr. uthman adam, and his "base instincts" (i can't remember the exact wording. i refuse to go back into scorpy's vod to check, and the banban wiki seems to be written by literal children.). obviously, this plays a lot into the "evil alter" trope (and he literally hulks out like a damn cartoon character), and in-game banban seems to REALLY WANT to suppress that side of him down. if they played this like Actual Plurality- like uthman being a factive (which would be FASCINATING if the lore was actually good), and the base-instincts side being some sort of persecutor/protector- it would work. but as it stands now, banban (character) is bad rep, and garten of banban (game) is one of the worst games he could be in.

so that leaves us about here!

of course, obligatory reminder that every system is different, not all systems have roles for their headmates, and so on. if you& (rhetorical, not directed at sender of the ask) see yourselves in any of these depictions, that's perfectly fine and i wish y'all well.

SAS Rogue Heroes. Maybe you've seen that one gifset? Yeah. That. Also The Magnus Archives! I saw some artwork of it and was intrigued. I've started listening to it at work and I'm really enjoying it. I love the spooks and the mystery.

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Oh no do I even have three fandoms oh no. John Segundus from JS&MN! He's the cinnamon roll he's the guy who asks inconvenient questions he's so polite he's a drenched kitten. I want to feed him soup (I don't care how much he wants beefsteaks he's getting soup) and listen to him ramble about magic. I think there's a lot of potential for exploring hidden depths (Ed) and how the events of canon have shaped him.

Leliana from Dragon Age: Origins! I love how she came to her faith in a roundabout and disastrous way, and how other members of the Chantry turned against her after she talks about her visions. And even after being constantly rejected and threatened by the people she loves, despite the personal danger she's in, she still just wants to help people in a world about to be overwhelmed by darkness. Ahhh I just love her. Also she (and Zevran, from the same game!) is one of the first characters I... read? experienced? saw featured in a piece of media I enjoyed? who is canonically bisexual and actually talks about her attraction to multiple genders. Redheaded lockpicking devout spymaster queen.

Kim Secretan from Will Darling Adventures! Honestly I could say, like, all the characters from WDA (Maisie ILU) but I'm focusing on Kim here because I feel like he goes through so much growth. He's a very different person at the end of the series, which is good because hoo boy he's kind of awful in a lot of ways at the beginning. It feels very earned, though. He acknowledges the ways he hurts people and chooses to do better, even though it's hard and he isn't sure he can do it. That's great I love that.
