I have read so many Tumblr posts about B and still none of them could have prepared me for just how much of a little freak he is. Misora is currently wondering whether he has bones in his neck.

Going over the characters' names in Another Note is really crazy like-

First up, it's L, the hero of Death Note, alright.

Second, Naomi Misora, the woman who was ruthlessly killed by Kira. We know her a bit, yeah.

Thirdly, Beyond Birthday. Sounds interesting for a killer, lesgooo!

Raye Penber, that guy from FBI. Naomi Misora's fiancee. Okay whatever.

Now, the victims:

Believe Bridesmaid. What- WHO THE FUCK HAVIN BRIDESMAID AS THEIR FAMILY NAME-

Next, Quarter Queen. What even does that 'Quarter' signify? I wanna have a serious conversation with her mother for that.

Finally, Backyard Bottomslash. I like this name because it's cool asf, but still not something I'd name my kids. Imagine telling people, "You can call me Backyard.” Or maybe, "The name's Slash. Backyard Bottomslash.” As I said, cool asf but still crazy asf

I remember reading something about Ohba choosing the nonsensical names so as not to inadvertently have a real person’s name written in the death note which is kind of a nice touch, considering the in-world implications. I always chalked up Light and Misa’s names to main character syndrome which is pretty par for the course anime-wise; the task force all have pretty normal sounding names (maybe the kanji used are unusual? no idea, I’m just going by the romanized translation) I also think a lot of the English names were also just never written with an English translation in mind (Ill Rat as a name for the mole is only an easter egg if it’s not in English lol.) Chapters were written on an insane weekly basis so i imagine they were just churning stuff out.without thoughts of translation potentials. if you gotta fill up that death note with names in a language you don’t speak and neither have the time nor the desire to research/care, theyre gonna get weird pretty quick!

quick thought before i log out: death note english names are meant to be nonsensical (raye penbar, rester, mail jeevas etc) because the japanese counterparts are as well (amane misa, yagami light are not real japanese names). all names in death note are made up in an alternate universe where names are fundamentally different because names play such a big role in the world itself

i think the most undiscussed and nonsensical thing in the entire Death Note universe is that nobody ever discuses in-universe how English names are, like.

Beyond Birthday"s style of killing isn't as unique as we thought. In 1971-1973 there was a case called The Alphabet Murders. AND THE PARALLELS ARE INSANE!

Beyond killed three - there was three victims

Beyond killed people with their initials being the same letter - The Alphabet Murderer did the same!

Reading Los angeles BB murders case is so wild not because of BB or the cases themselves (which are pretty cool actually) but for the names of the victims like wHaT kind of name is Quarter Queen? Believe Bridesmaids?? BACKYARD BOTTOMSLASHES????????
