My most problematic exclusionary unclebrained sports fan take is that you should have a Main. You can love everyone else according to a precise list or hate them all in equal measure, or have an inner circle you would die for, or only like your Team because one player is on it or whatever, but there should be one group of guys that, in every one of those thirty-one possible matchups you have, you want to win.

The other thing about Sam being such a teenager - a headcanon that is nonetheless supported by many canon elements - is that her being a baby activist is... not necessarily a good thing.
It's very promising in the long run! It shows that she cares about other people, she cares about ethics, and she is trying very hard to think about her impact on the world, and those are all good things.
But she's also extremely bossy, extremely self-righteous, and when you're a fourteen year old with two best friends that just... aren't very good at asserting themselves, it makes it really, really easy to hurt people by accident. I think, given what we see about Sam and how she interacts with them, it would be easy for her to dismiss them as Boys™️ and therefore The Oppressor Class.
Because Sam... kind of reads like a terminally online Tumblr kid. And that wasn't an archetype that existed in the 2000's, obviously, but Sam fits it to a T. She seems like someone that would know all the terminology, who would know who all the 'oppressor' classes and all the 'victims' were, who would be really into identity politics in the way where she weaponizes them, because she's fourteen and nuance is still hard for her.
She seems, in other words, like someone who would chew Danny out for using the word 'dysphoria' if he wasn't trans (but was maybe trying to find a word for why his body post-portal felt so bad sometimes.) Like she would demand room to express her emotions without remembering to give Tucker and Danny room for theirs, because they're Boys (even though Tucker is black and Danny is abused and getting space for their emotions is just as hard for them.) Like she would have a list of Social Justice Facts that she applies uncritically, and won't realize what she's doing for years.
And to be honest, I think this would be a really fun character arc for Sam! The sort of thing I would have loved to see in canon. Where she realizes, suddenly, how much she talks over people, how much she talks over her friends, and that maybe sometimes she's... not right, even though she knows All The Right Words.
(But until she realizes that, I also think that Sam could do a lot of damage to Danny and his guilt complex in particular.)

What I really enjoy is Fadel's reaction to having Style throw his t-shirt in Fadel's face in ep 8. Fadel routinely throughout the show punishes Style for bad behavior(I'll make a gifset as soon as I can figure out how to make gifs of decent quality). So what he does after Style throws the shirt in his face is go over and tease Style. Pretend that they might be about to have sex, only to leave him hanging. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, Fadel has no confidence in who Style is or what his real emotions are. But, given how hard it is for men to fake arousal, what he can have faith in is the fact that Style is both sexually attracted to him and also has a very high sex drive. So I think he knows that even if Style has ulterior motives in trying to seduce him, Style does actually want to have sex with him in that moment. Which is how Fadel knows that he can punish him with the hope of sex, only to have it taken away. That, along with the chin grabbing, is a sign to me that Fadel still on a deep level thinks of Style as his bratty submissive. And when Style shows brat behavior, Fadel absolutely cannot resist punishing him for it.
I just want Fadel to forgive him so they can be kinky again and have their own conversation about BDSM which they SHOULD HAVE ALREADY HAD BY NOW

No but I gotta talk about Medusa for a minute actually.
It's been. A very long time since I read the PJO books so I don't exactly remember how Uncle Rick presents Medusa in the book. But the way the show introduces her myth? Fascinating. For me as a Greek mythology enthusiast, that is.
The show makes Medusa a victim of Athena. Of course, the show is mainly for kids, so they can't exactly say that, hey, kids, Medusa was Athena's priestess and she was raped by Poseidon, YEP, or protagonist's father, IN Athena's temple, nah, that's neither kid-friendly nor does it endears us to Poseidon. Not that Poseidon is very dear to us viewers/readers at this point, our narrator/protagonist can't stand his own dad.
But still what fascinates me is that even though they twisted the myth to ft the narrative they still managed to evoke Athena's curse as being actually a gift, and Medusa not feeling wretched over her condition but blessed.
Which is not a modern reading of the myth, actually. Saying that Athena couldn't punish Poseidon for his transgression and could only punish Medusa, but did so in a way that would give Medusa weapons to defend herself against whoever and whatever would try to harm her again, is a narrative that exists since Antiquity.
My point is that the re-framing of Medusa's myth, departing from the traditional, non-kid-friendly version while still incorporating both classic and modern elements, is a good frame of reference for the series (book and show)' entire approach to mythology. And I guess I'm saying that mostly for the non-book readers who are discovering this world, many of whom might be Greek mythology fans and might have gone "wait, why is Hades AGAIN presented as the bad guy when he's the chillest, most normal, most stable god in this entire pantheon", because that's a conversation the book fandom has been having (over and over again) for more than a decade.
Anyway, yeah. As a long time book fan and a show appreciative, here's my advice to anyone who knows WAY too much about Greek myths and still want to enjoy the ride without going every five minutes "wait, that's not correct": reframe. Contemporary rewritings, modern audiences and Fantasy genre.

The thing about testosterone being a controlled substance means that acess to it for hrt is restricted. While it makes access a significant issue for many people and an easy and effective way to prevent trans men and mascs from transitioning (as we've seen terfs campaign for and succeed at doing in Britain) it also means that is very easy for health care professionals to be able to take it away from trans men/mascs arbitrarily. This is most aborant in cases where trans men/mascs are forced to detransition to gain access to abortions after being raped. However, the first sign of an issues tangentially related to hormones a gp, without any training in trans people or hormones, can and will stop a person's testosterone. Apart from how stressful it is to know that for the rest of your life you'll be dependent on the goodwill of a random person, this has measurable negative consequences for a trans person subjected too it.
Going off t fucking sucks at the best of time, but being forced off t will most likely result in depression and worsening mental health for a trans man/masc, who are already one of the most likely groups to attempt suicide. It can also put a trans person at risk if they suddenly start being visibly trans again, especially if they're closeted in, say, a work place environment. Trans people, including trans men, are already one of the most targeted groups of harassment and violence and sexual assalt and forcibly reducing or stopping t can out people and risk their safety. And a gp won't see this or care about this, or attempt to treat a trans man/masc first or ask for their opinion or situation.
Ultimately, testosterone is seen as entirely optional and so the first resort when something goes wrong it to take it away, when it should be considered the last resort, and is considered the last resort for cis men. And as long as testosterone continues to be a controlled substance it will remain like this.
(edit for clarification: I am a kiwi, this post was intended as a general critique of accessing t through health care systems - based in my lived experience in NZ and what ive heard from international trans ppl; including but not limited to the USA)

head stuck on an older version of ranson who, through a combination of police incompetence, coincidence, and sheer nerve, have somehow, somehow managed to evade the cops for like ten+ years now and at this point they’re just kind of de facto stuck with each other because where the fuck else are they going to go. they’re both equally complicit in various robberies at this point and neither knows how to live or function without the other anymore. at some point they found some quiet, rundown cabin or whatnot in a secluded enough area that they can largely live off the land themselves, and maybe they have a choice few local acquaintances who’ve earned their trust solely for knowing well enough to not ask too many questions. they still keep a gun on the bedside table and go-bags in the closet, but it’s been so long since they last had to run that they’ve grown lazy and comfortable, come to like the place they picked only out of desperation at first. they have gardens, projects, maybe randy watches birds and feeds the local wildlife while benson chops wood or hunts, befriends stray dogs. there’s always a car on blocks in the yard that benson’s working on. somehow it’s domestic, somehow it’s home.
BUT the integral thing about this arrangement is that they still absolutely cannot stand each other. they’re at each other’s throats like dogs half the time, randy having long grown confident enough to push back, and the result is that they’ve just grown into the sort of crankiness usually reserved for couples married for fifty plus years: a million small disagreements a day, constant nagging and passive aggressive comments, and a level of codependency worthy of study. they probably communicate through grunts and eyerolls more than actual words at this point. it cannot be stressed enough that they are just plainly unpleasant to be around for anyone who isn’t them. peace and love to them both though i do think this would fix them <3

Just recently finished LOTR and realized I'm old because I found out I can't stand the "blind optimism" from TF:O Orion Pax that much. Seeing Frodo and Sam were stuck in a dire situation that they knew they would have died anytime and still they still pushed through to get that one task done. And they didn't even know if they would even succeed the task, given the unpending dangers and despairs continue to loom over them... So when Orion Pax had that "down" moment after his friend(s) got captured by Arachnid and he was about to fold in guilt and "hopelessness", I couldn't help to find it so ridiculous and laughable to me. And it was not even helping when that moment followed by that cringe-ass, forced as f from Elita-1 as the movie tried to remind that this sidelined queen is still important to the main's development ..... "Oh, Elita-1 said the 'blind optimism' which would become the new name of Orion Pax when he became the Prime. See? He's peak representation of optimism and hope and blah, blah, blah" because he chose to do so many reckless and even outright stupid shits without even thinking out consequences ... "But he did those stupid acts to give everyone a better future" ... Yeah it was fun for a while but not, Orion's brand of optimism was just grating to me. It likes someone screaming and pointing at themselves: "see, see, see. I'm an optimistic boy because I'm cheerful, acting like a little shit that makes stupid and reckless decisions because I don't scare the consequences. But when I was in a slight 'dead end situation' and I finally tasted the consequences of my reckless choices, I felt hopeless and needed someone to cheer me up by reminding my cheerful dumbass optimism and no thoughts of consequences is good actually"
Okay, Optimism "by default" Prime.
Yeah, no. I take characters who are aware of the dire consequences but still hopeful for better outcomes. Yeah, Frodo and Sam deliberately blind themselves to the dangers and terrible outcomes to keep going, and that made me emotional.

It's so funny to me how Elgar'nan's and Ghilan'nain's "rahhh power" portrayal aptly ends up making the OG evil Tevinter magister Corypheus look so very mortal in comparison. How he'd hate it!
"Betrayed" disciple seeking to usurp the empty throne of his gods out of pure spite is just peak human energy. He raises people to his side who feel similarly wronged by the world as it stands - Calpernia, with her dreams of uplifting Tevinter's slaves and revitalizing this broken empire, and Samson, abandoned and tossed in the gutter by the very faith he once gave everything to defend. He is politicking (Orlais), he's manipulating (the Wardens), he's preaching to his cult about a glorious tomorrow, scrounging through the remains of the Elvhenan for scraps and imitating their greatest achievements (the archdemon) - and utterly fails to realize that he's just retracing the same path that doomed him in the first place. Because, after everything, this blighted existence of his has to mean something. The Black City will be golden. It was supposed to be golden!
Meanwhile, the Evanuris go looking for the biggest "bullies" around (thanks, Veilguard, for that stunning characterization) and from there, it's one brutal show of force after another. Their goal? Godhood. Their motivation? Godhood.
For all his ambition, next to these two, copycat Corypheus couldn't appear more human if he tried. Because embarrassingly enough for the entire mythos surrounding the ancestral Tevinter Imperium - and a big win for the Chant of Light - a human beholding the proverbial seat of the Maker will return as fallible and cringe as the rest of us, and die crying out for a god he knows is false.
It's just a shame that this final epic fail of his came at the cost of any sense of dignity or respect that the narrative affords to the elven people and their mythos. Human faith, erroneous as it is, is a tragedy full of pathos, even at its worst hubris. Elven faith is an empty lie waiting to be disproven and beaten into the dirt by Video Game Protagonist™.
