And here I go posting my thoughts that no one asked for on this post lol 😅 but honestly I do it for me! It feels good to let it out somewhere you know? Even if it just goes into the void and no one else sees it.
(Personally tho, I usually put my thoughts in my tags, I very rarely make my own posts and mostly just reblog stuff)
posting your thoughts on tumblr is so embarrassing like hey here’s what’s happening in my life in grotesque detail. here is my literal stream of consciousness. no one really cares about this. Whatever
#no but tumblr is my rawest form#I mean Twitter has my kpop fan stuff#and Instagram has the way I present myself irl#and I have a secondary one for my BL fan stuff too#but on tumblr I can talk about things I can’t talk about anywhere else#it’s MY BLOG right? it’s MY ONLINE DIARY#and this is the only app where I don’t really talk to anyone in particular#like sure I have moots and I message others#but I’m not in any real conversations or friendships with anyone here#so I don’t have to put up any facade or present myself in any way#I can just be my rawest form and post about my feelings however I want#and I do#and that’s a huge part of why I love tumblr so much#I feel the most myself on here than anywhere else#tumblr I love you

Hello! I absolutely love your blog, everything from your festival recounts to animation analysis and programming (one of tumblr's recommended posts was the one where you made your own rasteriser, and I liked your attitude in what I've read so much that I'm gonna attempt to conquer my 3-year-long grudge against using opengl during college and do something similar now that I'm a bit older and have no deadlines :D).
But anyway, I have 2 questions (sorry if there's easily accessible answers, tumblr search is not helping): 1. During your animation nights, does the screen stay black while everyone watches their own video while you provide commentary? I haven't caught any yet but maybe someday! And 2. do you have any youtube channels or just one-off video essays that you like that also cover animation/directors? Or, even programming lol.
Sorry for the long ask have a nice day!
hiii! i'm very touched that you like my dorky eclectic blog <3
For the Animation Nights, I just stream the video over Twitch from local sources on my computer, typically by playing the video in mpv and recording it in OBS. This is obviously not ideal from a video quality perspective, but it's the easiest way to watch video in sync without making everyone download files in advance. Then we all chat in the Twitch chat box (in large part to crack stupid jokes, it's not that highbrow lmao). I've gotten away with it so far!
As for youtube channels, I can recommend...
anime production/history (i.e. sakuga fandom)
SteveM is likely the most sakuga-fan affiliated anituber. He makes long, well-researched and in-depth videos on anime history, usually themed around a particular director or studio.
Pyramid Inu might be my fave anituber - very thoughtful analysis of Gundam, obscure mecha anime and oldschool BL and similar topics. tremendously soothing voice too.
The Canipa Effect does excellent deep dives into the production of specific shows, both western and anime. I appreciate the respect he gives to the Korean animators of shows like AtlA in particular!
Sean Bires's 2013 presentation on sakuga is pretty foundational to this whole subcultural niche, and a great place to get an introduction to the major animator names to know and significant points in the history of anime. unfortunately a couple of the segments got slapped down by copyright but the rest holds up!
animation theory (for animators and aspirants)
I'm going to focus here on resources that are relevant to animation in general, and 2D animation. if I was going to list every Blender channel we'd be here all week :p
New Frame Plus is one of the best channels out there for game animation, describing in tightly edited videos how animation principles work in a game context and analysing the animation of various games. highly recommend
Videogame Animation Study is similar, examining the animation of specific games in detail
the 'twelve principles of animation' (defined by Disney's Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas) remain the standard approach to animation pedagogy; there are various videos on them, but Alan Becker (of Animator vs Animation) has quite a popular series. I haven't actually watched these but many people swear by them! Dermot O'Connor expands the list to 21. Note that some of the terminology can be a little inconsistent between different animators - c.f. 'secondary motion'...
Dong Chang is an animator at Studio NUT, who produces a lot of fantastic, succinct videos on standard techniques in the anime industry, timesheet notations, etc. etc. Studio Bulldog, a small anime studio, are a good complement; they focus more on douga than genga and are generally a bit more traditional.
programming
big topic here, I'm going to focus on game dev and tech art since that's my field. but also some general compsci stuff that's neat
SimonDev - graphics programmer with a bunch of AAA experience, fantastic explanations of advanced optimisations and some of the more counterintuitive aspects of rendering
Acerola - graphics programmer who makes very detailed guides to a variety of effects with a very rapid and funny 'guy that has seen monogatari' editing style. When he's good, he's really good. His video on water is probably the best one I've seen (though I can recommend a couple of others).
TodePond - the most charming, musical videos about recursion and cellular automata you've ever seen. less programming tutorial and more art in themselves.
Ben Eater - known for his breadboard computer series, a fantastic demonstration of how to go from logic gates up to the 6502 with actual hardware. worth watching just for how clean he puts the wires on his breadboards like goddamn man
Sebastian Lague, Useless Game Dev - both do 'coding adventure' style videos where they spend a few weeks on some project and then document it on Youtube, resulting in a huge library of videos about all sorts of fascinating techniques. great to dive into
Freya Holmér - creator of the 'shapes' library, makes videos on mathematical programming, with gorgeously animated vector graphics. Her video on splines is a particular treat.
There are definitely many more channels I can recommend on these subjects, but I'll need to dig into my history a bit - unfortunately I need to rush out right now, but hopefully that should be good to be getting going with!

Thoughts on sweet pool
So, I installed this game on my laptop a couple years ago, and only played about an hour into it at the time. This past week I was dogsitting and my laptop was with me, so I thought to play through the various endings of sweet pool.
I'd gotten the game because I read a tumblr post about the history of omegaverse, and I thought it would be interesting to see the origin of some of those tropes. I'm not into omegaverse, though I've read one or two fics using that setup. I'm not really into BL either, and most visual novels I've played have been otome or mystery stories. Also not a fan of gore or horror! So, uh, really not the audience for this title XD
Even so, I found the game compelling and it's been rotating in my brain the last few days since I got through the whole thing. There are a couple points in which I think my perspective might be unique so I figured I'd share. Spoilers below. If you're familiar with the plot, you'd also know what content warnings might apply here, so keep that in mind too >.>
First, I wanna go over some points I haven't really seen discussed/explicated anywhere that stuck out to me!
About the parasites:
The infodump that Kitani reads mentions markmeat, which I've seen reviews refer to as the stuff Youji passes. I'm pretty certain the fleshy bits are actually the fleshseeds and the markmeat is the 'bloodlike' pheromone which seeps out of Youji's neck.
The only people who can see this stuff is supposedly hosts. If you're a host, you'll become either Osu or Mesu. But it's unclear when that transition happens. Is it like a secondary puberty? Zenya's issues have been with him a long time, but he's also an unusual case. Tetsuo has had regenerative talent from childhood. Youji's accident was several years ago, but only very recently has he begun emitting pheromones.
There are at least two other people who can see these signs of the parasite who are unaffiliated with the cult as far as we know! There are rumors going around the school of blood and guts in the chem lab, and a separate rumor about blood and guts in the boys bathroom. Both incidents come about through a male student becoming alarmed and upset upon seeing something no one else can confirm is there. If it had been the same kid, I think the rumors would go a little differently (aka such and such has gone mad, that sort of thing) so I think its fair to say that more than one boy is effected. This indicates these boys are hosts, and also that they don't know about the biological aspects, at the absolute least.
Who are these kids? Are they children who were exposed like Zenya was? If they knew about the cult, they probably wouldn't have freaked out in public, so they're uninitiated and possibly not experiencing any symptoms (IE the way Youji was?). Receiving purebreed flesh is the only way we really see discussed for becoming a host, but then how did Tetsuo develop? Do some people just inherit this from their parents?
Speaking of inheritance, Youji's situation introduces some questions too. He seems to have been physically passed along his father's parasite during the accident... like it entered his wound and this ultimately revived/remade him. Whether Youji was going to eventually develop into a host through inheriting that in a different way, had the accident never occurred, isn't discussed. In the pool, Youji can will himself to do the same for Tetsuo - so did his parasite enter Tetsuo? Taken with the state Youji is in during that epilogue, it's pretty vague what happened. But should we take that to mean that a new parasite melding into the body of a host can revive them?
We are given a decent idea of what Osu and Mesu are. But there seem to be others involved with the cult who aren't dealing with these same symptoms. Kamiya is around high school boys every day and not driving any of them mad. Kunihito couldn't see the Sodomites until after he was shot - even though his family were long time participants in the cult. Furthermore, had either of them been Osu, wouldn't they have been interested to learn of Youji the Mesu? So, are they hosts? Interestingly, there's a moment in the school with Kunihito that makes me really wonder. Kitani interacts with his boss, who is alive (even though narration from Youji earlier seemed to indicate Kunihito had died) for the moment. Then Kitani sees a wriggler entering a wound, and it seems to be attached firmly. He rips it away and shoots it, and then next thing you know, Kunihito is dead. Was that his parasite, keeping him alive, or a new Sodomite trying to enter as a parasite and then reform Kunihito's body? Did Kitani's actions here actually doom his boss?
Can you have a host and then lose it? Might Zenya's state have been fixed by removing the inner being? As a fierce believer, it's obvious why Kunihito wouldn't have opted to do that, though. But I feel like the grand ending suggests that Tetsuo has lost this aspect of himself in the epilogue. He takes a long time to heal, after all. Perhaps in wishing they could live together as humans, Youji caused their parasites to detach?
The whole situation with Youji is so bizarre. He's perpetually weak with a lung disorder, lives barely nourishing himself, and experiences numerous intense injuries over the course of like 2 weeks while undergoing debilitating physical changes. I get why, bereft of regenerative abilities, he would die at the end of the plot.
I think the violins version of Miracles May suggests Youji succeeds in saving Tetsuo at the cost of himself. And the grand ending seems to say that in rejecting the Sodomites, in not sacrificing himself for Tetsuo, Youji does not get his wish in full - he wants to live on with Tetsuo as humans, which I think only half works (Tetsuo managed to pull through after being wounded), and Tetsuo speaks his name one last time, but I don't think Youji is truly around anymore. But I feel like Tetsuo is a human at this point. And perhaps Youji died as a human, too. I just don't get why there was an attempt to cover up his passing? Like the scandal at the academy is already pretty bad, wouldn't it make enough sense to say two students stopped into the school that day and both were accosted by the yakuza and one of them perished? It seems like it's vague just to confuse the audience.
About the characters:
Was Makoto sensitive to the pheromones just cause he happened to be? Or like was it because he was attracted to men that the pheromone could harm him like that? Because I feel like either reading is supported by the text. At what point, removed from the impact of the pheromones, would Makoto regain his sanity? He seems himself when we see him in the hospital. But in his ending, a week has passed since Youji disappeared. We can't know how long it's been since only bones remain - like at what point will the Mesu pheromones no longer be present in Makoto's system? He seems to be still outside his own control at the close of his story.
On endings, it's pointed out that purebreeds can use pheromones to control even normal people. But the degree of *control* is something I wonder about. Like, Youji's pheromones elicited control over others, chaining them to a desire beyond their own sanity. But Youji isn't the one holding the leash, so to speak. Tetsuo's scent also caused this to happen to Youji. And like, the ending where they breed & the prominence of instinct in that route suggests that this final choice is something they submit to rather than a choice they make under their own rational control. So I wonder about the purebreeds ability to control others... is it an active ability, or does it elicit an instinctual response in others?
We see the lump of flesh that Kunihito worships, and from his uncle's journal we know he was once a captivating young man. But he "gave too much of himself to his followers" and now is a weakened flesh slab... Honestly this whole bit of the journal is super suspect. It's phrased like that was a thing the purebreed did of it's own volition, but I don't think we're supposed to accept that at face value. As more of it's flesh was taken, it became weaker - so weak, that members of the organization were sufficiently outside of it's "control" to act on a revolt. Up to that point, was the cult compelled to consume the purebreed's flesh, regardless of it's wishes, due to it's outrageous pheromones? Or did the purebreed willingly give of itself but go to far and tipped the balance of control outside it's own favor? Could the cult have failed at this moment, and prevented the events of the story from ever coming to pass? It seems like there are other purebreeds elsewhere in the world, though, or have been throughout history, so I don't know that the japanese branch falling would end the Sodomites' bid to live on.
Uncle Okinaga can't explain why he tried to protect the purebreed, only that he was compelled to do so in remembering the boy's smile. In one route, Kitani encounters the newborn purebreed. Is he a slave from this point on? Will Kitani end up feeding on the purebreed? It's an uncomfortable question I was left with.
Speaking of Kitani, I feel really mixed about him. On the one hand, he is sympathetic. His shit childhood leads to him forming a traumatic bond with Kunihito. This is actually one of the most upsetting moments of the game, for me! Lol moreso than the gore, tbh. He's at his lowest moment, his body is failing, and this powerful man comes and exerts that power over him through assault. Kitani's instincts take over (he struggles to live). Kunihito says, work for me, you might as well die for a purpose... It really mirrors what happens to Youji so strongly! Like, Youji's connection to Tetsuo is in many ways just the same as this - he is overpowered by Tetsuo, and in the horror of his changing biology, Youji finds that being accepted as he is to be worth the discomforting aspects of the bond. Kitani likewise accepts the worst aspects of the Okinaga family as the price for having a place and a people to belong to. It isn't a loyalty earned through goodness or affection. In the Diving Deep ending, Kitani is said to feel aimless and purposeless without his family, and it seems like he might not care about living any longer. We see in different endings Youji submit his own life to the cost of a 'higher purpose,' whether that be procreation or saving Tetsuo. Ultimately, I don't think either of these men really formed healthy attachments to others and it is worthy of sympathy.
On the other hand! Kitani has committed himself to the Okinaga family, to the point that his support of them is more instinctual than rational choice. He knows it's abnormal, but he still goes ahead and does the eyeball thing, supports Kunihito's religious fervor, never intervenes in anything they've got going on (until the point comes where outside forces - Kamiya - threaten his family). He feels horrible about hurting women and children, but he beats a high schooler on orders from Zenya, and helps Zenya kidnap Tetsuo and Youji. Like, I think he'd already looked into Youji's background at this point, so once Zenya's done with Youji for the time being, Kitani knowingly dumps this frail, frequently hospitalized boy who has just undergone a brutal beating in the trash disposal area of the house where he lives alone with no one to care for him. That is abhorrent. Then, he helps Zenya kidnap this same boy a second time, at which point the boy is kept as a sex slave. Kitani is not in the dark about this - he is an adult and knows both Kunihito and Zenya are mentally unstable, and that these actions are not only harmful or illegal, but seriously jeopardize Youji's life. And then, the real kicker? Zenya really loved it when Kitani sewed Kristi a lil yukata to match Zenya's outfit. So, Kitani dutifully makes his new pet, Youji, an outfit as well! I'm sure seeing Zenya so happy really made it all worth it, huh Kitani?
About my feelings:
So, I played this game at a point in time where I was actively on my period lol I still am right now as a matter of fact. And although I initially started it earlier before this was part of my life, in the interim time I had bariatric surgery and have developed a different relationship to food, hunger, my biology, and the often uncomfortable bowel changes that came with it.
It's horrible, but my partner didn't flinch away from the hard truths that came with major surgery. We've had to discuss diarrhea and incontinence and foul gas. Early on, there were days I thought I would die of embarrassment, but he loved me regardless. Thankfully, the biggest problems of the early days are mostly a thing of the past, but it's not something I'm liable to ever forget. I felt so bad for Youji, going through something that altered him intrinsically like that, with no one to support him. When he takes Tetsuo's actions to be unconditional acceptance of his mortifying biology, this leads Youji to bond with the man at the expense of his own being. He becomes subsumed into this bond. Had Erika's situation been different at the time, I don't think Youji would have clung to Tetsuo's lack of repulsion as if it were love.
Further, I felt a kinship to Youji's difficulty feeding himself that was absolutely absent the first time I played any of the game. Having been through a great deal of nausea, food repulsion, and experiencing my body at it's weakest, I was just as worried about his health as before but more sympathetic to the forces at play than last time.
As for the menstrual aspect, I can totally vibe with the idea that this bodily change is a repulsive, dirty, shame-inducing experience which alienates a person from their peers and from their own body. When I'm on my period, I do feel like my body is outside of my control, and knowing it's for a function (childbirth) isn't some welcome news. Like I have to put aside myself as an individual person (mind) to deal with the realities of my form (woman) for the time being, and it's jarring and uncomfortable. In this regard, I feel the reason vs instinct system is so well supported by the story's themes!
Also, uh, as someone who has experienced painful sex, anal sex, and painful anal sex in my life, the sex scenes were pretty intense to play through. Like the agony is well written and Youji's lack of consent is ever present. When he becomes aroused, it is not treated as if that is equivalent to consent, which I especially appreciated as this is something of a problem when it comes to discussing the rape of men in particular. Even when Youji is participating in sexual interaction, the way the biological aspect has been laid out, with the pheromones and everything, makes consent not really possible. While Youji comes to feel a bond with Tetsuo, it is due to their biology moreso than a romantic connection, and this seems like something borne from the need to mate rather than driven by who they are as *people.*
I do think it's interesting that this game is so focused on biological functions. The drive to breed, which in some species does indeed come at the expense of the parents' lives, is only one thread of this theme. The need to nourish oneself is definitely very present. And then digestion and expelling waste comes into play in a highly unusual way, lol. I found the mention of the myrmecoleon to be thematically resonant and perplexing at the same time. From Kamiya's comments, each half is biologically at odds with the other. I wondered how this was meant to be taken in conjunction with the story. Like, Youji doesn't eat, but he produces this new flesh and passes it - the flesh seeds are not a product of what he takes in. And it doesn't seem like not eating is enough to kill Youji based on what we see. But Kamiya's statement that maybe one end could survive if it would reject the other is kind of weird. You can read it as saying one part can survive - either the reasonable part of the being (the human) or the instinctual aspect (the parasite). There is no fusion of the two possible, no coexistence. It makes enough sense in regards to Youji, but it's a little confusing if you try to apply it to the Osu-Mesu pairing (two halves of a whole). I kind of felt that it was saying only one of the two could have their wishes fulfilled/their needs respected. Since Youji is getting raped all the time, I thought that's what Kamiya was getting at, at first. And if you take it to the breeding stuff, it is also confusing, Kamiya! What we see of their copulation, producing a purebreed is very much a matter of fusion, so it reads at odds with the myrmecoleon bit. If you see the lion and the ant as humans and Sodomites in their separate species, that's also kinda weird. I think its meant to represent that the hosts are these third kinds of beings - both ant and lion - and that their existence is at odds with both parts of their biology. It really leaves me wondering how the hosts and purebreeds thing is supposed to accomplish anything for the Sodomites. It's not clear what they're gaining from this, though it also isn't clear that any alternative is available to them. The drive to exist is strong enough that they must attempt to continue the species, no matter what indignities it requires, I guess?
Overall, I left the game feeling very unsettled (the music is SO effective, omfg) and on edge. Hopefully having written out my thoughts will help me to move on from sweet pool!! Can't really say I'm glad I played it - I was curious about how it related to omegaverse and it was indeed fascinating to see the root of those tropes being developed - but it didn't do anything for me in that doki-doki kind of way and left me more agitated than moved by its emotional stuff. I do think it was very well written, and well conceived, and well produced. I'd love to talk about it with other people, though I doubt I'd ever play it again or be likely to recommend it.
Thanks for reading this crazy long post :3

10 BL BOYS I WILL THROW HANDS FOR
Was tagged by @scarefox for this (technically my main blog but I post my bl stuff on here lol) and am very excited
I imprint on characters like nobody's business so this is a list made for me
EDIT changed the gifs because apparently the way I did it didn't properly link to the creators (only on desktop at least). should be properly credited now
In no particular order
1) Sound (My School President)
Starting the trend of lonely queer teenagers that I get a little too attached to, it's of course Sound. Like I was already a fan of Sound and intrigued by the concept of SoundWin (at the time people didn't know it was going to be the main secondary ship) but when the medal scene happened and Sound gave this so sad ans soft "oh no" look I was gone. That is my son and I WILL fight anyone and everyone for him
2) Nuengdiao (Never Let Me Go)
Another lonely queer teenager I decided to protect. I loved Never Let Me Go so much and Nueng was my special little babygirl and then Our Skyy 2 came out and it was like oh...... I will kill for him. Look I love Nueng and he did nothing wrong and also that scene where he's forcing Palm to put the gun to his head while screaming at him to shoot him leaves rent free in my mind. He's so traumatized and lonely and he's like 18 I would do anything for him especially throw hands
3) Typhoon (Star in My Mind)
Fun fact! I had to stop watching Star in My Mind because I got so unreasonably attached to Typhoon that I couldn't bear the thought of him not getting a happy ending. I wanted him to end up with Dao so bad because it would make him happy and I knew that if I kept watching they would either break his heart OR show that he's actually not that great of a guy, both which were unbearable to me. So I simply cut my losses and live in the fantasy that he got everything he ever wanted.
4) Bai Lang (My Tooth Your Love)
One of those "he just like me fr fr" characters who I would do anything for. He's my specialist little boy and I love him so dearly. Here's to having your trauma swag bewitch the local hot autistic dentist body and soul.
5) Han Ying (Word of Honor)
Talk about my specialest boy. Ying'er is my guy through and through. He deserved so much better and in every WoH fic I have written (they are all still in drafts) he lives and is happy no matter what. He IS my sweet cheese, my rotten solider, my good time boy. I will continue writing him getting railed to the high heavens by Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing like he deserves. He is incapable of being anything other but the goodest boy possible and I will die on this hill
6) Boston (Only Friends)
He is the worst. I would move mountains for him. Enough said.
7) Pluem (Ghost Host Ghost House)
Look this man has been going through it AND he manages to be the like the most flirtatious and romantic guy around? Give me your secrets sir. Also say the word king and I'll do it. This show broke me on so many levels but a lot of those levels were tied to anytime I saw him break down
8) Ye Huo/Fire (Guardian)
A recent (and somewhat obscure) pull as I am currently watching Guardian and was just exposed to his character today but he is my guy and I will defend him to the death. The only weaker point for me than a lonely gay teenager is a self appointed older sibling who sacrifices everything for their younger siblings. I was really like man this guy is an asshole for so long but then the truth of how he was saving the boys at the fighting ring came out and I was like oh no that's my son now and I need him to live and be happy. I have not finished his arc yet so I am scared that it'll be a tragedy BUT he is my wonderful son all the same and I will throw hands for him in an instant
9) That (Manner of Death)
The return of troubled teenagers I need to adopt and protect against all costs. I WILL fight anyone for him even though he's like a rebellious teenager who does crime and I am a strange looking college student who he would not respect but it's the thought that counts
10) Mark/Village Head Ma (Love Tractor)
Why is there a random white man living in rural South Korea? I don't know!!! They never address what he's doing there. But I literally love this man. There's a reason I made him to be my pfp for bl-bracket. Seriously he's the best and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Best character ever written. In my heart he's got the spirit of Quincey Morris form Dracula in the long tradition of just having a random American man in your story with no explanation
Tagging others!!!!! @saturnskyline @non-binarypal7 @supernovasimplicity @vegussy and anyoen else who wants to!!
There's been so many of these types of challenges/tag things lately that I have not kept track of who has or hasn't done which ones so sorry if you've already done something similar
#fun fact when looking up gifs i kept running into polls for bl bracket#and getting annoyed for filling up the search results#and then remembering that's me lmao

Micro BL Reviews +
So due to being ill, I've been spending a lot of time in bed watching dramas. And as always, I have thoughts.
So here, have some more micro (or not so micro) BL reviews, mostly for Thai shows that I missed last year (which is all of them, really).
Finished
Not Me (Thailand) - I quite enjoyed this. The romance stuff is secondary, but that was entirely fine by me as the main plot was interesting enough to hold my attention without it. In fact, and I know this is unpopular but…the chemistry wasn't really firing for me, romantically. I really liked Sean and White's relationship, but I never quite managed to buy into it. They have great chemistry but I didn't necessarily buy it as romantic. I think it's just me because the internet tells me that they are an extremely popular pair. And I had less than negative interest in Graffiti Cop and Hey, It's Akk From The Eclipse (it’s not, it’s Dan and Yok, sorry I'm an ass and also kind of a liar, because I didn't watch The Eclipse until after I finished Not Me and it took a trip to MDL for me to realize that Akk and Yok were played by the same person).
But I really want to jump around under a giant pride banner. Like, badly.
This one was mostly tight, though, and tackled themes I didn't expect from a BL, and that's why I'm rating it 9/10. Fell apart for me a bit in the end, but otherwise very solid, although to be frank I don't see myself rewatching it.
The Eclipse (Thailand) - I love this one, and it's almost entirely chemistry based. The school stuff was interesting enough but what kept me watching was Akk and Aye, for the most part. And I adored Akk's struggle with his sexuality - I actually thought it was portrayed well, and I felt for him. Also I love a good coming out scene with supportive and lovely parents.
Honestly, Akk was my favorite. Dude was a hot mess wrapped in tears and panic and a prefect's arm band and I have to admit I was entirely there for it. I do tend to have a thing for characters that seem like they're constantly on the verge of a panic attack (see: Uenoyama from the Given live action drama, my archetype for this).
Not the biggest fan of Thua in the end or the giant outing scene in front of the school (dear lord that's traumatizing and why do they keep going there??? STOP), but I did think that Kan and Thua were really adorable as a second couple right up until Thua went all *waves hand*…that.
LOVED the trio of protesters and loved that the drama never vilified them or tried to make them seem in the wrong. Not so fond of the Dika/Chadok thing, or how suddenly everyone was like "oh it's fine that you traumatized a kid and manipulated him into doing actual crimes and actively endangering other people's lives and essentially upheld a system that is detrimental to most of the student's mental health and also tried actively to run another student out of said school using the teachers and the kid you were traumatizing and manipulating because you hurt, too." And here's the thing. I feel for him. The backstory with Dika was tragic. But there's no real excuse for the things he did. I sympathize too much with Akk to be able to do a full 180 on the guy pushing him into destruction, even if everyone else did. Tragic backstory doesn't excuse mentally torturing more than one high schooler. Although the more I think about it the more I see that he is where Akk might have ended up, had things been a little different. Not a fun thought.
This one I originally rated 8/10 because of the above. I was annoyed by how pat the ending felt. But then the stupid thing caught in my head like a fish hook and I wound up watching it again and even though I still feel the end was weak and I am still irritated at Teach, the very fact that I couldn't stop thinking about it and basically had to watch it again made me bump it up to a 9/10 for enjoyment purposes. Because I did enjoy it, probably more than I did Not Me, although I think that Not Me was tighter and better written overall.
I'm also obsessed with the way Akk looks at Aye. Yeah, this one got me and go me hard, so much so that I know that had I watched it last year with everyone else it would have wound up in my top 5. Sorry, Choco Milk Shake.
Secret Crush On You (Thailand) - Oh, this drama. I am honestly not sure how I got through the first few episodes, tbh, because I was cringing the entire time. Like full on trying to retract my head into my body like a turtle.
And to be honest, it didn't get much better for me. I appreciate that Toh is not the typical lead in a romance like this, but I just couldn't with the collecting. Nuea was pretty, too, but I didn't get much from him by way of personality. This is a drama where if you don't like Toh, I don't know how you can get through it. I liked him even if he made me cringe a lot (he kept a whole ass crab as a memento. An entire crab. I can't get over this), so I did finish. And I will say that the chemistry was good. The kisses at camp were hot, hot, hot. My goodness.
I also really hated that most of Jao's storyline was about how fat he was. I just don't enjoy that kind of thing and also, to me he looked like a normal sized dude shoved into clothes (mostly the school uniform) a size too small.
My favorite was Daisy, though. Love. And love how sweet Intouch was with her. I read somewhere that he uses the same pronouns (?) for her she uses for herself, and I love that. Thank you show for not making me hate the whole thing and not treating that character like a joke. I about cried my eyes out, though, when she tried to be more what she thought would be less embarrassing for Intouch (read: more masculine), and Som spoke my thoughts exactly.
I actually really liked the friend group in this one. Giving it a 6/10 based mostly on that group of friends, although as I said the chemistry is good, too.
The Director Who Buys Me Dinner (Korea) - I was enjoying it, but I didn't like the ending at all. Unfortunately an ending I'm not fond of can kill a show for me, and this one kinda did that. Also I badly want a Denis spin off because I still don't know what his deal was and by the end that was more interesting to me than the whole reincarnation thing (although I have to admit there's something to them being doomed to repeat the same pattern). 6/10
Currently Watching
Between Us (Thailand) - Full disclosure, I have never seen Until We Meet Again and probably never will because fated mates aren't really my thing and I don't like reincarnation plots. I did watch a video about the original couple though, does that count? So I have zero attachment to Win and Team outside of this series, although again, I did watch a vid with them in once. It was fine.
All that said, I absolutely love this. Reincarnation and fated mates might not be my thing, but the whole FWB gets serious and no one involved has any idea how to handle it thing definitely is. Between Win thinking that he can't hold onto what he loves and Team's survivor's guilt making him doubt he deserves life, let alone love, those two have enough baggage to fill a small plane, and I am here for it. Add to that the fact that their communication styles are entirely different and honestly, I'm entirely unsurprised the confusion and angst that we're mostly getting. This might be unpopular but I'd be fine if it were even angstier. I do love mess.
The side couples are fine. I can take or leave all of them but Waan and Tul, tbh, but I also think that a little cute is a good thing to break up the tears and the frustration (for people who aren't me who don't eat this sort of ridiculousness up*) of Win and Team. I don't really care about the dad stuff, and while I actually do want Team's trauma to be addressed I don't think we have enough time for it anymore. It makes me wonder if they're hoping to do some sort of continuation but even if they are they better not end this with the two of them apart or then I will be annoyed.
*I would like to say here that I do eat it up, but part of the reason that I am loving this so much is that to me (again, someone who never watched UWMA and binged the first nine episodes the day before the tenth aired) this makes so much sense for these characters as I know them. You can say (and people have) that this amount of angst over something that could be taken care of in one conversation is too much, or is unrealistic, etc, but as a person who finds it very difficult to communicate actual feelings to people it actually feels pretty true, especially for two people who are what? 19/20 at most? Most especially when you consider that neither of them have done this before, both of them were utterly blindsided by the fact that feelings were happening, and both of them have a ton of baggage. I get the complaints, but for me it works.
Also my goodness Boun is lanky, isn’t he.
HIStory 5 (Taiwan) - I'm enjoying it well enough, the workplace romance a bit more than the time traveler, but honestly I just don't have a lot to say about it. For me it's fun, easy to watch, but I'm just not that invested. I keep waiting for the time traveler and his rich soon to be boyfriend to do something for me. I hope this most recent ep will kick things into gear there.
That said it does make me laugh, and honestly the workplace duo are the most adorable thing.
Love in the Air (Thailand) - for some reason Viki is being a dick and releasing this one week at a time when I'm fairly sure it's already been over for a while, and Dailymotion keeps freezing on me (or playing an ad and then refusing to start the vid), so I'm stuck waiting currently. This is a trash watch if there ever was a trash watch, I went into this knowing that and knowing that if I wanted to get through it I'd have to turn my brain mostly off and just enjoy the pretty and the high heat. Fortunately for me I am fairly good at turning my brain off when required. I also have the dubious fortune of having cut my teeth on far worse. I genuinely like Sky and the dude who plays Prapai is gorgeous.
On Hold
Ameiro Paradox (Japan) - I keep trying to get into this one and it keeps not happening, so I've given up the ghost for now and will binge watch when all eps are out. I feel like I'm punishing it for not being Eternal Yesterday and that's just petty.
DNF
Bad Buddy (Thailand) - I don't know, I just couldn't get into this. The chemistry wasn't hitting for me and eventually I just decided to stop watching rather than try to force it. First kiss was good and I shipped the girls, though.
And well, since we're here and since nothing about this fits the definition of "micro"…
Looking Forward To
Bokura no Micro na Shuumatsu (Japan, Jan 29 on Viki and Gaga) - yep, another one that will very probably end badly. I hope it'll give me good chemistry though since Japan likes to do that with the sad ones.
Utsukushii Kare Season 2 (Japan, Feb 7, no word on if it will be on Viki or Gaga but I'm assuming it'll be on one if not both) - I'm still very very much in the WHAT stage with this one. And part of me is terrified it's not going to be good (the first one is my favorite BL ever, fight me) and I can't quite squash that fear, but I think that's probably just the normal fear with sequels. The assumption is that they're splitting the 2nd novel into two parts, essentially, with season two being the very end of the first novel plus some side story stuff, as well as the beginning of the second, and the movie finishing the second novel up. Not sure about the accuracy here, though, this is just stuff I found out when I first heard about it and I'm not necessarily in the loop with this stuff.
Only Friends (Thailand, ??) - I love me a mess, and this looks like a big one. I think I'll probably wimp out though and wait to see how it all shakes out before watching because I feel like real time will frustrate me and I'm hoping if I go into it already knowing who is going to pair off I can prevent the inevitable "oh no I ship this thing that's not gonna happen more, boo"s.
Our Skyy 2 (Thailand, ??) - Mostly into this for the Akk & Aye part(s), if I'm perfectly honest. “Alexa, play The Heart Wants What it Wants”
Dangerous Romance (Thailand, ??) – Because Perth, basically. See above.

Currently Watching - April
I am back 😊
Because I love a good little list - in alphabetical order! 😊
Regularly updated during the month, latest update 27.04.2023
This may contain spoilers!
1. A Boss and A Babe (8/12 on Youtube)
I wasn't a big fan of ForceBook after watching Enchanté, but I really think it works in this drama. Cher is getting an internship at a gaming company. In his free time he runs an ASMR channel and the boss is a big fan of his voice (a thing I can't understand) and they start talking in the evenings so Gun, the boss, can finally manage to fall to sleep.
2. Bokura no Shokutaku aka Our Dining Table (4/10 on Gaga)
Hozumi Yutaka likes to cook and is good at it, but he can't eat infront of other people. Meeting Tane and his older brother Ueda Minoru his life seems to change and he may finally have found what his body and soul were longing for. A true comfort watch right now.
3. Happy Merry Ending (2/8 on Gaga)
As often with korean bls, this one is soooo short! Just 15 minutes per episode. But it was a good first epside. We meet SeungJun and JaeHyun and from the first moment we know that these two really find each other interesting. A wedding singer and a pianist. A wedding singer with social anxienty and trauma. I am invested!
4. My Story (2/10 on Youtube)
Every now and than I like to watch a pinoy-bl. The first episode was a mess and a bit boring, but I have a strong second-lead-syndrome! I love the secondary couple and they just slept together in one bed, but that was so cute! Looking forward to the next episodes!
5. Our Skyy 2 (2/16 on Youtube)
Can I be honest? The first story wasn't my thing. I enjoyed Never Let me Go, but this was not that good. Perhaps it was the time-travel-thing or some of the cringy dialogues...who knows. I am still looking forward to all the other episodes!
6. Step by Step (2/10 on Gaga)
Employee meets boss without knowing who he has met and crushes hard on him, just tells him what everyone thinks about the new boss and is just adorably clumsy infront of him. I like it a lot. I adore the friend group! I hope we get to see them support Pat a lot.
7. The Promise (7/10 on WeTV)
I like it. Are there cringy moments? Yes. Are there slapstick moments I can hardly deal with? Yes. Are there plotholes that bug me? Sure...but! I like it. I like Nan and Phu together and I love the slow burn and am I well entertained. I also enjoy little Party being the jealous king he is, who deeply care for Nan and if latter would choose him, i wouldn't be that angry!
8. Tin Tem Jai (8/10 on Gaga)
And we took 45 steps back and the show is kind of annoying like before...Park has no right to be this jealous...Just let Tin have a sweet first romance. You obviously can't give him what he needs or wants. Just let him date his senior...
9. Watashi to Otto to Otto no Kareshi aka Me, My Husband And My Husband's Boyfriend (4/10 on gaga)
Misaki is married to Yuuki. She nows something is off, because he doesn't really have interest in getting sexual with her. On the day before their wedding anniversary she sees him kissing a man infront of their home. It is her former student Shyuuhei, who also has a crush on her. Now they have to find a way to deal with everything. And I am on board!
10. Zenra Meshi aka Naked Dining - Love, Life and Liberation (2/12 on Gaga)
Everybody has their own way to release stress. Ichijo Futa eats naked. When he goes to his dead grandmother's house, he meets Miki Mahiro, who finds out about his eating preference. I don't know what will happen in those 12 episodes, but it is funny.
Finished in April
Series
1. Unintentional Love Story
I love this one and I will watch it again. The story is good, the acting is good too and I really liked the chemistry of the characters. It felt real and yes, I don't care about the dead-fish-kisses. Do I like them? Nope, but it doesn't smaller my joy of watching the show. I guess I just like series in general which deal with artsy stuff like pottery or books. It has quite a good vibe and a good portion of angst. Highly appreciated and recommended. A solid 9,5 out of 10 for me.
2. Bed Friend
This was a hard watch sometimes. Not just because Uea's life was really hard and full of trauma, but because he overcame his problems because he was loved by another person. Love can heal everything. That is something I don't believe and I can't tolerate in my media. Love can definitely help you, but not heal you. Uea needs help and not just the D. But this is fiction, I get it. 6 out of 10 for me.
3. Chains of Heart
This is one of the most visually stunning shows so far. Really beautiful shots and scenery. Therefor I love it. The plot was confusing in the beginning, but later on it got clearer. Mr. Lue/Din and Ken were my favorites. I loved their scenes together, especially episode 9. But the ending...I had really hoped for at least one talk between those two. Ken can be angry at him and tell him, what he needed to tell and Din could just explain himself and his actions. But no...just an open end where it is implied that they see each other again at the 7th of the 7th month...still not very happy with this ending, but I can make my peace with it...soon, I guess. Still 8 out of 10 for me.
4. The Eighth Sense
Perfection. I have nothing more to say. For me, this was one of the best I have seen so far. I have a soft spot for gay surfer dramas, so me liking this wasn't that surprising for me. But it was a really good series and I will rewatch it soon and often! 10 out of 10.
5. Destiny Seeker
This one gave me so many good, nostalgic feelings! It is such a college bl, but with a twist. And the twist is steaminess! Especially in the later episodes. Really good kisses. Besdes that I love a good enemies to lovers story and the lovers part was just so...cute! Just awww! A nice, short series, which didn't get the attention it deserves! It is a 9 out of 10 for me.
Short Film
The Summer Pasta Recipe
Hee Joon visits his ex-boyfriend Seon Woo. Together they prepare an italien pasta recipe and talk about the past and their relationship. Breakups can hurt and sometimes we need time to get over them and if we manage to look back and be okay with the past, perhaps we can hope for the other person not to forget us. In the end I feel kind of melancholic. 7 out of 10 for me.
2. S.A.M.
This is a UK production. GagaOOLala says this: "A tender exploration of love, sexuality and disability." And that is exactly what you can watch here. It is a quiet short film and shows us, that prejudices can't tell you shit about a person. 8,5 out of 10 for me.
Movie
Dropped/On Hold in April
Past Senger (7/12 on Gaga)
It just doesn't get any better. It's just boring and I don't like t that much. There are better things I can do with my time. Perhaps I'll binge it when all the episodes are out. We'll see. For now I don't want to deal with it anymore.
Looking Forward to in April (with MDL-Links)
Chul-soo (April 4th on Gaga)
Our Dining Table (April 6th on Gaga)
My Beautiful Man Eternal (April 7th / no international release date)
The Summer Pasta Recipe (April 11th on Gaga)
Naked Diner (April 14th on Gaga)
My Story (April 15th on Youtube)
A First Love Story (Finally back on Gaga on April 17th)
Step By Step (April 18th on Youtube and WeTV)
Our Skyy 2 (April 19th on Youtube)
Midnight Love (April 22nd on Youtube)
At The Moment (April 24th on Gaga)
Happy Merry Ending (April 27th)
La Pluie (April 29th on Youtube)

What are some dramas you'd recommend for someone who hasn't seen anything other than Love020 ?
Thanks
Hey, anon!
I haven't watched that many c-dramas and modern dramas are not my thing in general, but if you like modern romance, I would definitely recommend Love is Sweet. The main couple is excellent and hilarious (the secondary couple is awful, but easy to fast-forward through) and they have insane chemistry together.
The only other modern c-drama I watched is Broker, but that is simply not the greatest and I recommend it only to Luo Yunxi fans who are willing to put up with a lot of nonsense for his pretty face. The same goes for Lie to Love, but I couldn't sit through that one even for Luo Yunxi because the female lead reinvents the meaning of the word terrible and is simply unwatchable. I had to quit on episode 2. People who persevered tell me that it apparently gets better as it goes on (confirmation needed from those who finished the show, please) but I'm really not that much of a masochist to try and find out for myself.
Another modern one that I have on my watch list is When a Snail Falls in Love. I haven't started this one yet but I've only heard good things about it and I cannot stress enough how much I love Wang Kai, so maybe that is also a good place to start.
With that said, if you're willing to branch out into historical and fantasy stuff, I can recommend a few.
1. Monarch Industry, which I'm watching right now. It is easily the best c-drama I have watched so far (I'm on episode 61/68 so I seriously doubt that there is anything they can do at this point that will change my mind on this). It has one of the best male leads I have ever come across in my entire history of drama watching and the female lead is awesome as well! In addition, the drama is intelligent and well-made.
2. Nirvana in Fire, also an excellent place to start for the historical stuff. This one is a favourite of people with good taste in general, it's really excellent (and it has Wang Kai, who is awesome). Extremely well-made, fantastic battle scenes, awesome characters, and only derails a little bit towards the end. *grumbles about yetis and improbable c-drama medicine*
3. If you like BL, Word of Honor is really good! Even if you don't like BL, it's still very good! They had a tiny budget, which shows sometimes, but they made the best of what they had and it turned out to be a surprise hit because it really turned out wonderful. Unfortunately, they cut their funding before they could finish the drama so they had to reduce the number of episodes towards the end, which shows, but it is only the last few episodes, so you don't feel the effect too much. 90% of the drama is very coherent and well-made.
4. Obligatory mention for The Untamed and Ever Night.
The Untamed is beloved for good reason, it is a BL fantasy and the story is compelling and the characters are very lovable, but the special effects are a disaster. If you can't get past the wonky zombies and monsters, you will not enjoy it. With that said, the music and talisman magic are gorgeous, and while I adored it, I am careful when reccing it to people.
Ever Night is fantastic for the first 30 episodes. Like, so so so good! It is quite violent, though, so if you are looking for romance and sweetness, it's best that you skip this one. Also, watching the second half of this show (i.e. 30 more episodes 😭😭) is one of the most infuriating experiences I ever put myself through. My recommendation for anyone giving this drama a go is to watch the first 30 and just pretend the rest doesn't exist.
C-drama friends, please feel free to add on and help anon out! Drop your recs below, especially if you know of any good modern ones! 🤗🤗

I wanted to review HIStory2: Crossing The Line (or Boundary Crossing) before I moved on to too many other shows. It is now only the second BL show that I have watched more than once (there’s so many out there, I just want to keep consuming new stories!) and that’s for 2 reasons. The first being that it’s fairly short, just four 45 minutes episodes, so it’s easy to get through in an afternoon. The second being... it’s just that good.
The characters are great, the acting is fantastic (don’t even get me started on Zach Lu, this boy - I say boy, he’s 31 - is an incredible actor and deserves to be in all the things, chop chop Taiwan lets start casting him mmkay?), and the storyline is simple, yet sweet and convincing.
I think one thing I would have liked to see was more backstory on Xia Yu Hao, the main character alongside Zach Lu’s Qiu Zi Xuan. He seems like he has an interesting history that is the catalyst for his move to the knew school but they just sort of... drop comments about his past and then move on. I wanted more from him. But really, that’s my only complaint.
** The rest is a spoiler filled breakdown of the show, so don’t read on if you don’t want it all spoiled. **
The story itself is a very typical, highschool romance BL story. The two main characters start off not liking each other because one (Yu Hao) is an angry little ball of nerves and the other (Zi Xuan) is too focused/busy/mature to put up with his nonsense. They find something to bond over (volleyball) and fall madly in love.
The actors portray the turmoil of first love very well. They are young and happy and they just want to be near each other always, but that’s confusing and scary and they don’t know how to respond. But they eventually figure their shit out and the series ends on a sweet kiss that promises there is a lot more to their story. (I hear there was rumor of a possible movie being made that took place once they were both in university. I would very much like this, please.)
Along the way of figuring out their feelings for each other we get things like study dates with lots of pining and heart eyes, awkward bathroom incidents, and my favorite... taking care of the others injuries.
Zi Xuan was injured while playing volleyball before the show began (ending what should have been a promising career) and is now left with almost chronic pain in his knee that Yu Hao is always happy to help him take care of. Seriously, we get like 5 different scenes of Yu Hao icing and/or massaging Zi Xuan’s leg and I loved every single one of them. He’s so sweet and gentle (especially for a boy who got kicked out of his old school for fighting) that I could picture the two of them in 20-30 years still, Zi Xuan coming home from a long day of coaching volleyball at the university and finding his husband ready and waiting with an ice pack and the massage oil. It was precious and I loved it.
Outside of the main relationship with have a secondary pairing (because what would a BL series be with just one CP?). This one can be seen as problematic since it’s that prevalent BL trope of stepbrothers that fall in love. This relationship is a little more of a gray area for me than, say, the one in HIStory 1, because these two stepbrothers were raised together, at least from the age of 13 or so (possibly before that, they don’t make it clear). Again, my opinion is that everyone needs to consume the content they are comfortable with. So if the stepbrother storyline bothers you, just skip it! They don’t take up a lot of the time in the show, and you can easily pass over their story once the romantic part begins.
I think the thing I liked about their story the best, was the way it ended very maturely. Zhen Wu (the older step brother) overhears Zhen Wen confess his feelings to him when Zhen Wen thinks he is sleeping. For several weeks they had been fighting, or just plain ignoring each other, because Zhen Wen had been acting strange and pushing Zhen Wu away. We as the audience found out earlier that he was doing this because of his feelings for his stepbrother, and he was trying to make Zhen Wu back off of their very close relationship, so that those feelings wouldn’t ruin everything.
After the late night confession Zhen Wu now knows too and confronts him about it, saying he doesn’t know how he feels in return. (He does know that when a girl liked Zhen Wen he did everything he could to make sure he didn’t find out, but he didn’t really understand why he did that). But despite that he doesn’t know if a romantic relationship is what they should have. The two boys decide that they will continue caring for each other and being close with each other, because that’s what makes them happy, but they’re going to let time figure out the rest. I thought that was a great way of ending a potentially very complicated storyline. It’s ambiguous, but happy and hopeful.
The last thing I wanted to talk about in this review is Zi Xuan’s best friend, He Cheng En.
Y’all... I don’t think I have ever adored a best friend side character so much! I love him. I love him so much and Yi Hing Xie played him SO WELL. He is the comedic relief. He is the lovable buffoon. He is... a Himbo. Fit, kind, and dumb as rocks, that’s He Cheng En.
He loves volleyball and he loves his team and he loves his best friend and he just wants everyone to get along and win games! You spend the entire series not knowing whether you want to roll your eyes at him or pinch his cheeks and tell him how good he is.
One of the things I like the most about him is that he and Zi Xuan are very physically affectionate and it’s not played off for laughs! They just... like touching and hugging each and that’s okay! Yu Hao gets jealous of their closeness and at one point asks Zi Xuan if they’re dating and he just laughs. Like... no, why would you think that I’m dating the boy who I am constantly touching and standing too close to and who I act out scenes from a BL story with because his girlfriend writes BL mangas and needs models?
It’s just... not a thing. They are physically affectionate with each other and that’s okay. At one point Cheng En even ends up sleeping in a big cuddle pile with two of his other team mates while they’re at a training camp, and no one cares! I love it. I love boys who can be physically close to each other with no need to pull that ‘no homo’ nonsense afterward.
The females characters I think are also fairly well done. The BL fan (because there always seems to be one) is He Cheng En’s girlfriend and is mostly respectful about her BL stuff and not creepy like a lot of them can be and Zi Xuan’s little sister has a crush on Yu Hao and is a little pushy, but responds very maturely when he rejects her.
All in all, this whole series was a delight, and well worth a watch or two. I really hope we get that movie (but that might mostly be because I want to see more of Zach Lu).

Danger Days Master Post
Happy March 22nd! I’m running a Danger Days based table top using the Atomic Highway system so I had to do a lot of research to figure out slang and world stuff! Manga with Significant Trans Characters
Hello greetings I am back with another list.
I’ve stated in a previous post that there’s too much manga for me to do a complete masterlist of series featuring LGBT characters, HOWEVER, I’ve decided that it is within my abilities to do one for trans characters.
All manga on this list features transgender characters either in lead roles or significant secondary roles. I’m also including warnings since a number of these are fairly dark series, what other representation is in the series, as well as chapter count because why not.
I’ve limited it to what I’ve read personally for the purpose of including warnings, but if you know of anything not on this list please let me know! If you provide the warnings yourself, I’ll add it right away. If not, I’ll add it to my own list of stuff to check out.
Click here for the list I’ve previously done for non-BL/GL anime with LGBT characters
Ai no Shintairiku (6 chapters)
Trans girl protagonist
Other rep: brief appearance of another trans woman
Warnings: transphobia, misgendering, homophobia, off-screen sexual assault, fatphobia
Notes: Very early-2000s shoujo
Bokura no Hentai (41 chapters)
Trans girl protagonist
Other Rep: several non-straight characters, gender-questioning characters
Warnings: transphobia, underage sex, sexual assault
Claudine...! (4 chapters)
Trans man protagonist
Warnings: transphobia, suicide, major character death
Dororo (19 chapters)
Trans boy secondary protagonist
Warnings: Misgendering in the last chapter, lots of cartoon violence
Double House (3 chapters)
Trans woman protagonist
Other Rep: non-straight secondary protagonist, trans women side and background characters
Warnings: casual transmisogyny
Fukakai na Boku no Subete wo (17+ chapters, still being written)
Non-binary protagonist
Other rep: Multiple trans women, gay characters, lesbian characters
Warnings: Internalized transphobia and homophobia, some misgendering and unsavory word choice (addressed and corrected within the narrative)
Houseki no Kuni (80+ chapters, still being written)
Nearly all characters are non-binary
Warnings: body horror
Notes: The non-binary characters are not human. Fan translations use blanket gendered pronouns (she/her for early chapters, he/him later on) while the official translations use they/them.
Koisuru Sugar Cotton (1 chapter)
Trans girl secondary protagonist
Other Rep: lesbian protagonist
No warnings
No.6 (35 chapters)
Non-binary secondary character
Other Rep: non-straight protagonists
Warnings: attempted sexual assault, brief suicidal ideation, parasites
Other Notes: Don’t watch the anime.
RG Veda (16 chapters)
Non-binary protagonist
Other Rep: Multiple gay and bi characters
Warnings: Misgendering (see note below), heavy gore, cannibalism, suicide, mention of incest
Other Notes: In series, the protagonist Ashura is referred to with male-gendered language, however the authors have confirmed that they are non-binary. The only reference to this in series is mention that they’re intersex.
Shimanami Tasogare (23 chapters)
Trans man and gender-questioning side characters
Other Rep: gay protagonist; series focuses on a group made up primarily of lgbt people
Warnings: homophobia including slurs, transphobia including dead-naming, suicidal ideation
Other Notes: Written by an x-gender person
Umineko no Naku Koro ni (245 chapters, split into 8 parts)
Trans woman major character
Other Rep: several non-binary characters, lesbian couple
Warnings: gore, child abuse, family death, non-explicit incest
Other Notes: This is technically a sequel to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, however the plots are completely separate and this can be read without having any prior knowledge of Higurashi
Wandering Son (123 chapters)
Trans girl protagonist, trans boy secondary protagonist
Other Rep: multiple other trans and non-straight characters
Warnings: transphobia including slurs, minor homophobia
Wish (26 chapters)
Non-binary protagonist
Other Rep: Several other non-binary characters
Warnings: major character death
Other Notes: The non-binary characters are not human
Yuureitou (80 chapters)
Trans man secondary protagonist
Other Rep: bisexual protagonist, gay side character
Warnings: transphobia, homophobia, LOTS of misgendering, gore, family death, mention of incest, mention of pedophilia, drug use

A Kurt and Blaine Fan’s Very Serious Guide to Glee
Are you a fan of Kurt, Blaine or Klaine? Are you thinking about rewatching Glee and aren’t sure what episodes to savor and what episodes to skip? Well -- I have just the guide for you.
Season 1
Pilot: Introduction to the show. Apparently, Kurt is not the main character, or the secondary main character. Blaine does not exist. Kurt sings Mr. Cellophane and is sassy. He also gets thrown in a dumpster.
3/10 Stars**
(Stars are based on how much Kurt and/or Blaine are in the episode, and have no bearing on quality of the episode. Y’all should know that I’m good with my scientific evaluation of these episodes by now.)
Showmance: Kurt sits in the background and has less sassy remarks.
1/10 Stars
Acafellas: Kurt comes out to Mercedes and shows he’s more of a man than Will will ever be.
8/10 Stars

what are some BLs you recommend?
Omg I’m so sorry for taking so long responding! I’ve been so busy and was not ignoring you i swear! Btw I’m not listing these in any order other than how they come to me. Anyway I hope you like at least one thing I recommend ^^
1. History 2 Crossing the Line: it’s on youtube subbed. It’s a high school love story, which I admit I am a sucker for those. Ngl I am the type that falls for the secondary couple lol but I was totally invested in the main couple! The History series is also an anthology series so you don’t have to watch in order at all.
2. Ossan’s Love: I watched on dramavery but I think it’s on fb too? I don’t use it anymore so idk really ^^’’ A real estate worker in his 30′s is courted by his older boss and new younger worker. This definitely leans more towards comedy but I love comedies because the serious scenes feel more impactful to me. A movie came out this summer but I don’t think it’s subbed yet.
3. History 3 Trapped: On Viki. About a cop who falls for a mob leader. There are definitely not a lot of bl shows in that setting so this was fun! The main couple was amazing but I definitely fell for the secondary here xD zhao zi is just soo lol
4. Theory of love: On youtube: About a film student who has been in love with his best friend for 3 years and his attempts to move on. Really well made, great acting, fun film references, and the secondary couple Killed me lol
5. Together With Me: I watched on dailymotion. 2 best friends realize their feelings for each other after a drunken one night stand. The acting was great, chemistry for days, and fleshed out secondary characters. Tbh did Not like the secondary couple. I was very uncomfortable and skipped a lot...I got the lesson, the handling was actually good, but i guess I couldn’t stomach it. There is a second season but people don’t like it and i haven’t checked it either :/
6. Love by chance: On youtube. A sheltered boy(college student?) meets a soccer player and falls in love with him. There are technically 4 pairings in this series but I really only watched the main aepete and tincan...the other 2 again made me uncomfortable and like TWM. More like it was trying to handle “mature”,”taboo” topics and just couldn’t....A season 2 has been announced with a tincan focus so yay!
7. 2moons2: On youtube. About a college freshmen reunites with his highschool crush. The thing about this show is that there was a 2moons season 1 but ish happened and the old cast was dropped and the show was redone. I watched 2moons and as far as recommending? sure? lol I really only liked the mingkit pairing so yeah lol I personally do prefer 2moons2. The acting does start more stilted because they are beginners but they get better and the cast chemistry is good, pairings are better explored, and a type of cheesy that i am totally here for! A season 3 (technically 2) has been announced ^^
8. Lovesick the series: On youtube... I wouldn’t say this is top on my list but it’s a really well known bl as kind of what started the Bl trend. About high school boys falling in love. For what it is it’s cute and the acting gets better. Also earnpete is the couple that never was that Still haunts me to this day!!! lol
9. Our Skyy: I watched on dailymotion. An anthology about couples from various gmmtv series revolving around their future. Really well made episodes. I watched all of them without watching the shows they were referencing and still liked it so you might too ^^
10. Kiss me Again: On youtube and dailymotion. About 2 college boys who can’t stand each other but fall in love. This show actually has a lot of pairings that have nothing to do with the BL story. The gmmtv youtube has the bl only cut so I would recommend that because i hear the show suckksss lol Personally I prefer the dailymotion bl cut because it keeps a lot of scenes that gmmtv didn’t.
ongoing shows as of (12/2019)
History 3: Make our days count: On Viki and kissasian: A high school love story that is just soo cute!!! bcz of course that’s my thing lol
Until we meet again: On youtube: A couple reincarnated after committing suicide and finding each other again. love the cast chemistry!
Dark Blue Kiss: On youtube. A sequal to kiss me again. More of a bl focus on the kma couple kaopete and the introduction of another couple. I Love this! for the most part people are loving the 2nd couple more (morksun) but i’m still enamored by kaopete ^^’’
Shows I haven’t finished or watched but hear great things
Great Men Academy: Kissasian: About a girl who is transformed into a boy and must find a way to turn back. I started it but haven’t had time to finish. But it’s really really good! I think this could have been handled very badly but it was done so well, the acting is great, and the world building makes sense.
He’s coming to Me: chingming subs on twitter. About a ghost trying to find out who killed him and meeting the one person who can see him. I’ve heard only great things about this show. It’s definitely on my to watch!!
Sotus: Youtube and now netflix Ok so i half watched this? i personally didn’t really feel chemistry with the couple and the story kinda felt like it was missing something. but at the time it was one of the only bls I knew about it so I kept with it but at this point i remember almost nothing!!! lol i know it’s about an upperclassman hazer who is courted by a freshman. So even though it did not strike a chord with me, it is a very very much loved show so you might love it too ^^
Diary of Tootsies: Youtube. About friends trying to find love. I’ve heard great stuff about this show. Apparently there’s good comedy and well handled issues which i love so i really need to watch!!
The Untamed: Netflix. A show based on a bl but bcz it was made in china it is very censored. It’s about cultivators, kinda like magical warriors, who try to bring stability to the world...i think lol....now i’m not the biggest fan of “implied” relationships, so i haven’t watched this and might not, but people Love this show!! I also don’t like overly magic stuff GMA i think had a level that i’m cool with but this might be too much. It is on netflix tho soo the convenience factor might bring me to watch it.
Love is more than a word: Youtube. Another china bl that is obviously more censored...buttt i think done soo well. I haven’t finished this but I love what I’ve watched. The love just feels more explicit..and i think maybe bcz the acting may be better? (For me!) (I’ve seen gifs of Lan Wang ji and the ‘looks’ he gives We Wu Xian and I just Really don’t see it. like at. all.) (of course that could just be because i haven’t watched it, but i saw gifs of this show before watching it and i saw “it” lol) The Untamed is better made, beautiful visuals, but i just feel like this show draws me in more...but maybe it’s the magic thing too???
I know this is long but I feel really bad for taking forever so i hope this helps ^^

Killjoys, make some noise! It’s 2019 bitches!
Explaining the killjoys - California 2019
-partypoisonn:
mychemicaladdiction:
An explanation of the whole killjoys/California 2019 storyline, for those of you still trying to catchup or for those of you who need a good answer when your parents ask “What is a killjoy?” (any of you who would like to add a point, correct me, or ask other stuff I should answer, please do. This is just from what I’ve gathered so far, so I may be missing things.)
It’s 2019 in the California Desert. An unknown disaster (war? A natural disaster?) has taken place and now we are in the post-apocalyptic Californian desert. The government is run by a company called BLI industries, located in the heart of Battery City. Their world is literally black and white – their logos, their ray-guns (the primary weapon of choice), their clothes, even the draculoids (masked vampires of sorts) employed by them. Their leader is Korse (played by Grant Morrison in the videos). They market a drug that artificially creates feeling of happiness – eliminating the need to do anything real in life anymore, or experience anything enjoyable. The pills are the main way BLI employs mind control to the masses. (Also used are mind control video with hypnotic designs and a calm female voice saying “everything is perfect” and similar things.) The logo on the pill bottle shows just this – a happy face. BLI has slogans like “we can fix you”, “building a better you”, “everything is perfect” “love is a pill.” This keeps the citizens under their control and blind to what is really going on (reflected by the way the BLI logo is printed as BL/ind).
Those not under the control and on the run from BLI industries are the killjoys. The killjoys are the survivalists, the one trying to bring the truth, no matter how bad it is, thus being a “killjoy” in the literal sense, destroying the notion that everything is perfect as BLI portrays it to be. Their world is dirty, fast, colorful and violent – abandoned buildings, graffiti, brightly colored masks, ray guns and biker jackets. It is unknown if the killjoys are the heroes or the villains – they are just trying to survive and get the truth out there.
One way of doing this is through the illegal radio broadcasts of Dr. Death-Defying (Steve Righ? –yes, the question mark is intentional, part of his name spelling- from the band Mindless Self Indulgence). Dr. Death Defying broadcasts “transmissions” on his pirate radio station, and is accompanied by his assistant – the roller-skating, polka-dot tight –wearing young man named Show Pony. Dr. Death Defying clearly has been though the disaster in some way or another, as he gets around in a motorized wheelchair.
The killjoys are the four members of My Chemical Romance. They have aliases or “killjoy names” (Gerard Way is Party Poison, Frank Iero is Fun Ghoul, Mikey Way is Kobra Kid, and Ray Toro is Jet Star). Posters are up around the city with their four faces on them, covered in a red x and a black bar that reads “exterminate”. They are wanted for a)not cooperating with BLI’s plans of mind control and b) trying to expose BLI for what they really are, thus the reason why they are always on the run. They travel in a vintage Trans-Am that is painted with the widow spider logo, and American flag, and the word VAYA (Spanish for “go”) The car is covered in slogans – the front window reads Bulletproof, the back reads Look Alive Sunshine, and stickers from the radio station are stuck on the back bumper. They travel with an unidentified ten year old girl (played by Grace Jeanette Clark). Her relationship to the killjoys is unknown as of yet – but she seems particularly close to Party Poison, as he is the one who hugs her during the rescue in the SING video and is also the one who opens his eyes and looks at her being kidnapped at the end of the Na Na Na video.
In the “Na Na Na” music video we are introduced to their world. We see ray gun battles between the killjoys and the draculoids. We see Korse in the BLI car (black with the same smiley face logo) and the dracs (a shortened way of saying draculoids) on motorbikes chasing the trans-am. The video ends with a showdown between the killjoys and Korse and the dracs. Korse kidnaps the little girl as a warning to the killjoys for their incompliance with BLI. The killjoys are sprawled out on the ground but Party Poison opens his eyes to see her struggling to get away from a draculoid and Korse delivers a chilling message: “Keep running.”
The next music video, “SING”, takes place immediately after the Na Na Na video. The killjoys break into BLI headquarters to rescue the little girl. They do not enter undetected however, as we see them on the surveillance screens. They are being watched by the draculoids and an Asian woman (played by Airi Isodo and listed as “NewsAGoGo” in the album notes) who is the spokes girl for BLI (www.betterlivingindustries.jp) who are in the same room as the little girl. The killjoys storm the building and rescue the little girl. Before they can leave the building, they fight a battle with the dracs and Korse. Korse pins Party Poison against a wall, smiles, and shoots him. He slumps against the wall. Kobra Kid is shot next and falls to the ground. Fun Ghoul shoves Jet Star and the little girl out the door and blocks the door as he continues fighting. He too, falls from a bullet wound. Jet Star and the little girl make a break for the trans-am but Jet Star is shot. Dr. Death Defying’s van pulls up and the little girl escapes with Dr. Death, Show Pony, and an as yet unidentified woman. The video ends with Party Poison being zipped up in a white body bag and the Asian woman watching Dr. Death’s van drive away.
HOWEVER, it is unknown at this point if the killjoys are dead. We know this storyline is set to be at least a three part music video series. Gerard Way posted a picture online of him in the body bag with the caption “killjoys never die”. A clue, perhaps, to what will happen next. There is also a line in the song “Save Yourself, I’ll Hold Them Back” from the album that contains the line “We can live forever if you’ve got the time.”
In real life, My Chemical Romance fans are fully encouraged to be a part of this world. They are encouraged to come up with their own killjoy names and costumes. The fans that were once referred to as the MCRmy are now referring to themselves as killjoys as well. They are encouraged to do away with the black and white and sepia colored world of The Black Parade (MCR’s last album) and to wear color – especially by wearing their masks and killjoy costumes to shows.
The slogan “ART IS THE WEAPON AGAINST LIFE AS A SYMPTOM” pertains to My Chemical Romance’s music in the real world. Using their music as a “weapon” to the current music that is out there, and taking pop music and changing it up and making it fresh and new, so pop is no longer frowned upon as a genre. It can also be used to describe how the use of art keeps a person from having a boring, uneventful life and the importance of creating. (Read almost any current interview with the band and you’ll better understand what they mean.) It also can pertain to the usage of color and life in the killjoys’ world as being a “weapon” against the black and white mind control. The slogan “THE AFTERMATH IS SECONDARY” pertains to the life of the killjoys – do what you have to even if it results in danger or death – and also the concept of BLI using mind control to prevent people from doing things, making a consequence/end result unimportant or “secondary”.
well? any further questions?)
this is perfect!!!
Amazing. :)

Just gonna add something because thanks to the new YouTube uploads there is another version of the "Sing" music video, focusing in on the apparent deaths of Party Poison and Jet Star, but in this one, the two get up after an extended period of time. This further explains "killjoys never die." Here's the link: https://youtu.be/jgf2f4-bmcE
