Hello! How are you? I'm not too bad. Lol. Hope your day/afternoon/evening has been the bees knees and just keeps getting better! If it has been a little, well, craptastic, know that I am sending you hugs and the hope that it gets better....((HUGS))
Finally got the next to the last part of the Cary started! After this, I have to sew it together and do the finish work. But, I am sooooo looking forwards to getting it finished. Sadly, though, I am playing yarn chicken with this stripe, so I may not get very far today. But, I have told the nameless one to stop and grab me the required color to finish the sleeve.
In a very good turn of events, I was able to camp out in my easy chair yesterday with a playlist of ancient peoples docs. The hooligans weren't happy, but they got over it. However, today, Mom has been relegated to the desk, so it looks like Ancient Cities and gaming while I knit, while they indulge in PBS Kids.
Anyway, hope you are well!
Much Love!
Huge Hugs!
Happy Knitting!
Ana

Why does pretty much every game except the one that takes place in Cyrodiil lean into Ancient Roman aesthetics for Cyrodiil and the Empire? Why are the only Roman aesthetics in Oblivion shit built by the Ayleids? Why is the one game where I could've been in fantasy Rome generic fantasy Europe??? Where is my fantasy Rome DAMMIT!!!!!
#listen usually i get that fictional cultures shouldnt just be wholecloth real cultures in a fantasy world but oblivion is not roman enough#and eso has to copy oblivions city looks for nostalgia's sake so while the clothes are more unique imo they cities look the same#i get what they were doing with each city having influence from the province nearby in ob but they couldve done that with more creativity#and the CLOTHES UGH i do not like oblivion's clothing#and every other game (morrowind and beyond) gives them very latin sounding names while in oblivion theyre there but not nearly as much#i just really like ancient rome and i was ROBBED#who cares about jungles!!!#mine#tes#tesblr#theres a really good comic about baby martin where they make it much more roman like and i love it

Archaeologists Discover Ancient Tokens That Roman Soldiers Used to Play Strategy Games
The lentil-shaped objects were unearthed in Hadrianopolis, an ancient city in modern-day Turkey, that once hosted a Roman fortress.
Archaeologists digging in the ancient Roman city of Hadrianopolis, located near Eskipazar in modern-day Turkey, have unearthed two bone tokens dating to the fifth century C.E. that they suspect belong to a strategic board game enjoyed by Roman soldiers.
âThese bone objects are lentil-shaped and disk-shaped,â Ersin Ăelikbas, an archaeologist at KarabĂŒk University who leads excavations at Hadrianopolis, tells the state-run Anadolu Agencyâs Orhan Kuzu. âOne stone has a four-armed symbol, while the other has an eight-armed symbol.â
The markings on the tokens, which are roughly the size of a half-dollar coin, likely indicated the strategic purpose or worth of each piece during a game, according to a statement from KarabĂŒk University. Some 1,600 years ago, perhaps soldiers on the easternmost edge of the empire shuffled the slim bone tokens across a board, attempting to outwit their opponents.
Ăelikbas suggests that the pieces could have belonged to a popular Roman game like Ludus Latrunculorum. Also known as Ludus Latrunculi, which translates to âGame of Mercenaries,â the two-player strategy game was the âtoast of the Roman Empire,â as Smithsonian magazineâs Meilan Solly wrote in 2020. It was ubiquitous in Roman culture, with roots in the ancient Greek game of Petteia.

Ludus Latrunculi was âknown for its simplicity yet deep strategic layers,â Koray Erdogan writes for TĂŒrkiye Today. While the exact rules have been lost to history, Ulrich SchĂ€dler, an archaeologist at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, suggested in a 1994 essay that players would have attempted to surround a lone piece of their opponentâs with two of their own until one sideâs pieces were all captured.
The two bone pieces found at Hadrianopolis might also have belonged to Duodecim Scripta, a game comparable to backgammon played on a board with three rows of twelve squares, according to Anadolu Agency.
âThese were games based on military strategy,â Ăelikbas tells Anadolu Agency. He likens them to checkers or Battleship and emphasizes that they were popular among Roman soldiers.
Aristotle, referencing the Greek precursor to Ludus Latrunculi, wrote that âa citizen without a state may be compared to an isolated piece in a game of Petteia.â
âThe discovery of strategy games in Hadrianopolis further solidifies the presence of a military unit here, as it is known that bone pieces were used to play ancient strategy games,â Celikbas says. He views the pieces as evidence that a previously discovered Roman fortress dating to the second century C.E. may have existed at the site into the fifth century C.E., playing a crucial defensive role for centuries.
Hadrianopolisânamed for the Roman emperor Hadrian, who expanded the Anatolian settlement during his reign between 117 and 138 C.E.âhas proven to be a trove of ancient wonders, including baths, churches, tombs, castles, a fountain, villas, archways and monuments, according to TĂŒrkiye Today.
Earlier this year, Ăelikbas and his team found a pendant from the same era as the game pieces with an image of King Solomon and the inscribed words âOur Lord defeated evilâ in ancient Greek.
These finds shed new light on Hadrianopolisâ status as an important cultural hub and strategic military outpost. Excavations are ongoing, and Ăelikbas thinks that 2025 will bring âeven more exciting discoveries,â per TĂŒrkiye Today.

Congrats to Xu Wu for being the first monster to have explicitly eaten a person in a monster hunter game
#and like. im sure its been said or implied in a quest flavor text somewhere in the older games#but usually human casualties in monhun are caused bc a monster ravaged a town/city/civilization. the scale is different#but here its clearly like. Oh God this guy was going on about his day and then was clearly eaten. jesus#like. its an npc and you havent met him before but still. the impact is bigger to me than another âoh elder dragon destroyed ancient cityâ#tagging later#monster hunter#dam plays mhwilds

What is up, All! How are y'all doing today? I'm doing great! Also a little sparky today! Hope you are doing well. I also hope that your day/afternoon/nite has been impeccable and just keeps going! However, as I know not every day can be sunshine and roses, if your day has been a series of disasterous occurances, know that it gets better and that I am sending you a hug...(((HUG)))
The sweater formerly known as the Reed has the focus in the shop today. The goal for today is to get it to the 16 inch mark, so I can take of for the under arms. I'm super stoked at the way it is working up. It'll be so pretty when it's finished. I am stoked for y'all to see it in the Sneak Peak!
In other news, I spent to long at the desk this weekend, playing Ancient Cities and knitting on Sis's blanket, now my ankle is the size of a softball. Looks like it's coffee, documentaries, and the easy chair with my foot up for me today. Normal Monday, though. Even with all of that, I still got a good amount done on her blanket. It's almost to the next color change, although now I am playing yarn chicken with the skein and the last eight rows of this block. Yikes!
Hope your day is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Much Love!
Huge Hugs!
Happy Knitting!

a century late I am playing FFVII Rebirth and I hope that nobody is surprised that the thing I am the most excited about is the crunchy detail and connective tissue of worldbuilding emerging from a current-gen approach to the setting of the game
I am precisely the person that âthe Republic of Junon operated a bus system that ceased operations after the warâ is for. A more coherent mythology connected to summoning materia? The physical presence of mako pipelines across the countryside, the decaying infrastructure of everything else left to wither by Shinraâs ruthless neoliberal approach to ruling a continent? Thatâs good stuff.
Also they brought back a version of Chocobo Hot and Cold, which is objectively a good choice.
#Tinolqa Plays: FFVII Rebirth#remains to be seen if Queenâs Blood measures up to Triple Triad#and I know I am twiddling my thumbs waiting for Vincent and Cid to show up and not be playable#but largely everything between Kalm and City of the Ancients IS the game to me

Where Did You Learn?
(Davrin, Bellara, and Neve & Vincent Thorne)
Vincent Thorne knows that there's no better way to spend a day than by painting. It just so happens that the ceiling of the Lighthouse is the best canvas to help illustrate the events of a city elf's life.
#original content#vincent thorne#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#ao3#da davrin#bellara lutare#neve gallus#da rook#I love city elves so much#so so much#I love Vinny's character so much#the more developed I make him the more I love him#Veilguard not letting your character really be dalish-dalish but also... not talking about SHIT relating to city elves makes my blood boil#I LOVE THE ELVES SO MUCH BUT I DON'T *CARE* ABOUT THE ANCIENTS#Give me Dalish give me city elves#give me THE MODERN PEOPLE#THE ONES TRYING TO MAKE A LIFE AS A DIASPORA#It's so much more compelling to me than just âoooooh but the Ancient gods / not gods / we'll call them gods anywayâ#âwho gives a fuck about the series' previous games constantly deconstructing godhood and exploring what makes faith Faithâ#Vinny is such a good man and has such Real flaws I feel#He's a city elf and does NOT give a fuck about being âelfyâ#at least not in the way the Dalish define it#he just wants his family to survive living in a society dominated by humans#and I think that's neat

This is the only thing I picked up from the Retro Expo but I am so pleased with it. I have been super into the Kingâs Field games - for anyone who doesnât know they are the first games FromSoftware ever produced and was a direct inspiration to Demon Souls/Dark Souls. They play like first person fantasy rpg puzzle games. They are even explained as a metroidvania like because of itâs nature of difficulty and back tracking. They are slow, clunky, difficult as hell and I adore them.
This is the second KF game I own now đ âïž
