One Dress a Day Challenge
October: Silver Redux
Samson and Delilah / Hedy Lamarr as Delilah
Delilah's wardrobe is amazing, culminating in the spectacular peacock gown. Edith Head and her fellow designers won a well-deserved Oscar for their work on this film.
This two-piece dress with bare midriff and draped skirt is simple in style but dripping with pearls. The opulent silver fabric and copious jewelry also show how she's living the high life at this point. I've included a close-up showing her beaded hairnet and crown. Also notice the pearls carelessly twined around her shoulder strap.

I've posted about this before but ive been slowly working my way through old family recipes, some of them ive had very frequently, some i haven't had since i was a kid, and some i didnt even know existed. on the one hand its been really infuriating that my parents stopped making most of these but on the other hand its been an absolutely magical experience making things that i haven't had since i was 7 and remembering memories i had no idea i had and also rewarding when i correctly decipher my grandmas handwriting

Sophia Stewart exposes Hollywood elites for stealing her creative works
“The Terminator” comes from the machine planet and goes to the past to kill Sara Connor, Neo’s mother. The initials “J.C.” stands for John Connor and symbolically represents Jesus Christ. John Connor grows up to be Neo in “The Matrix”.
Remember in the Bible, Jesus was the only one called The One. So, Neo is just an anagram or a sneaky way of calling him The One. N.E.O. + O.N.E. are one and the same.

Akasha from Queen of the Damned
When I made the list for Fanguary I wanted to make it more diverse. The first one coming to mind being the Queen herself played by the late Aaliyah. Let it be known that I never want to draw this much jewellery for another month or more because holy god it made me curse. However, I think I can admit, I kinda cooked.
Also, to add my personal two cents. While I understand that Akasha is implied to be Ancient Egyptian and therefore people often fancast her as more Mediterranean looking, I would totally be down for a more Early Dynasty Nubia influenced casting and styling. After all, the Greco-Roman influence to Egypt was a lot later and whilst Cleopatra VII was Ptolomeic and therefore not black, a lot of the earlier dynasties were and it shouldn't be erased from the history.

Me: And in ancient texts we often see the mention of mantles Hollywood: Ah...capes! Me: Yes...I mean not exactly, unless you mean by the practical use... Hollywood: Capes! Look cool. Me: No...as in "ancient overcoat". Of course can prove status and all but it was used first and foremost for cold and protection against elements and... Hollywood: Capes! We shall give them capes draping over their shoulders! Me: What? No-no that is not how-... Hollywood: Like superman! Over their armor! Me: HOW THE HELL IS THAT EVEN WORKING WITH ARMORS IN BATTLE!? Hollywood: Looks cool! Me: No!

alrighty guys so the wolfstar hollywood au got a bit of traction and i’m running with it.
consider: sirius has an insane talent for acting, so he is forced into role after role by his parents. forced into diets etc and as a result of his parents’ abuse, becomes v attracted to toxic relationships as he gets older. imagine that’s what originally attracts him to remus bc he’s constantly fighting with him, but then he turns out to be the most gentle person ever with sirius UGHHH I NEED TO WRITE THIS

Okay the house of Black in Hollywood though... Producer or filmmaker Orion, who marries his own cousin, the legendary actress walburga, after she got horrifically abused by the regisseur of a movie she starred in. Their marriage is respectful, but cold and there's many rumors about infidelity going around. The cycle of abuse then continues when their children get born. Both parents try to sculpt them into their image. Walburga books Sirius role after role, and model opportunities, with strict diet plans and early access to drugs. He is talented, if only he wasn't so opinionated. Orion rejects both, despite his sons talent on orions side of the camera, so he continues to ignore his wife and eldest son. The younger one is lacking, but he tries so hard to appease his parents... When the eldest turns and runs away both parents forget they had another son as well...

Recently watched: Nefertiti, Queen of the Nile (1961) (Italian title: Nefertite, regina del Nilo). Tagline: “The fascinating woman who deserted the pharaoh for the arms of the artist who made her immortal.” This one hails from the fun late fifties / early sixties “Hollywood on the Tiber era” when American movie stars - suddenly cut loose from their major studio contracts - fled to Cinecittà in Rome to extend their careers by starring in Italian-made historical epics and gladiator/ peplum movies (think: Lex Barker, Anita Ekberg, Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay). Here, the slumming American actors are Jeanne Crain and Vincent Price (and British male starlet manqué Edmund Purdom). The plot plays wildly fast-and-loose with the story of ancient Egyptian royalty Nefertiti. Here, she is originally temple handmaiden Tanet (Crain), whose true love is Tumos (Purdom), the artist who sculpted the famous bust of her. Unfortunately, scheming Great High Priest Benakon (Vincent Price) – who also happens to be her father – has promised Tanet’s hand in marriage to religious zealot pharaoh (Amedio Nazzari) – the union that will lead to her being rechristened as Nefertiti. Heaving her bosom and pining in the background is one of Tumos’ besotted models, belly dancer Merit (with her frosted pale lipstick and bouffant hairdo, Liana Forfeit looks like she should be en route to a 1961 cocktail lounge). Anyway, a visibly uncomfortable Crain makes for the most Californian of ancient European queens but rocks some great costumes (you find yourself waiting for each fresh headdress, wig and gown Crain will wear in every new scene). And the production values are lavish: there is spectacle, legions of extras, pageantry, battle scenes and banquet scenes, religious rituals, Purdom wrestles a lion – and the male actors sport ultra-short togas. (Nefertiti sometimes feels like a dry run for the more ambitious Elizabeth Taylor 1963 version of Cleopatra). Finally, all due regards to Crain, but the REAL queen here is the scene-stealing Price, camping it up outrageously with an elaborately braided wig, leopard skin cape and a kohl-rimmed smoky eye. Nefertiti is easy to find on YouTube.

One Dress a Day Challenge
October: Gold Redux
Solomon and Sheba / Gina Lollobrigida as the Queen of Sheba
Like the gold dress from Auntie Mame featured earlier in the month, this is basically a 1950s strapless evening dress masquerading as something more exotic. It's pretty clearly more advanced tailoring than the ancient world would have created, but the jewelry and heavy tassels do help to create an archaic effect. The wide collar necklace may be intended as a hint to her Egyptian alliance. Also note the matching turquoise ornament at the waist.
The shiny gold color is definitely anachronistic, as even real cloth of gold is a medieval invention and this is pretty obviously lamé. But it does make her stand out among the Israelites, where even the king only has limited gold elements on his clothing. (That's Yul Brynner as King Solomon, by the way!)
The costume designer is Ralph Jester. He only worked on a few movies, among them The Ten Commandments (another Biblical epic) a few years earlier.
