Scavengers reign (2023) is a HBO MAX original series created by joe bennet and Charles Huttner, and produced by titmouse inc and green street pictures. in this video i intend to answer the question how was this series made.

before scavengers reign there was a short film simply called 'scavengers' that bennet and Huttner had created for adult swim in 2016. scavenges reign was only able to be made because of the success of this short. they were given a budget of $14,000 for the short and it daubed at the Annecy international film festival.

the initial inspirations for this short and by extension the show, was exploring made up symbiotic relationships in nature and depicting them like a rube Goldberg device. Bennett describes this as "cause and effect" stylistically Huttner was inspired by the illustrations of moebius. they were also inspired by ASMR and texture describing there being "a lot of sensorial elements to this planet".

turning the short into a show was originally going to be done under adult swim until they scrapped the idea, it was only when HBO picked it up that it became a reality.

turning the short into almost 6 hours of content across 12 episodes was a hard task. to help them they looked at shows like 'the last of the Mohicans' and the 'revenant' about people in nature. as well as a lot of nature documentaries. on a character level they said they were inspired by 'Manchester by the sea'.

they were given 80 weeks to create the show, and rewrites could happen up until week 60. they used TV paint and MOHO for animation. to learn more about the production i reached out to one of the animators Ana Moniz with an email. she told me that the animation was outsourced to korai as it was cheaper then it was polished by titmouse's international "retake team" to add more emotion and expression. she also said that they used 3d renders of the characters to stay consistent.

in conclusion scavengers reign was made due to the success of the scavengers short, Meany different inspirations and the talent of an intonational team of animators

Yes i live in Portugal and i would love to know who do you consider in Portugal a famous person?! And obviously im not only saying she is famous because of gossip magazines is just the fact that if you go to the street and ask a random person who she is i can tell you thay only a few people would not know who she is. Because again Portugal consumes a lot of soap operas and she already did a few for people to know who she is and football is the biggest sport in Portugal and definitely footbal fans know who she is (probably not for the best reasons but yeh). She not only knowed by a niche of people like Luisa and Kika.

No babes if you go up to someone on the street they don't know who she is, I'm sorry but they don't, when I talk to my mom and mention her I constantly have to remind her who she is, she's not very well known at all who I consider famous here?? first hand research, reaching out

now i know about the background but i don't know about how it was actually made, what was it like to work on? who worked on it? where was it actually made? were there any tip and tricks used to help with the production? for this level of information i needed more than interviews with the creative heads of the project. so i decided to go straight to the sauce and contact someone who worked on the project. the way i went about finding an animator was fairly straight forward. I went to IMDB and looked at the credits. once i had the name of someone who worked on the project, i then googled them to see if they had a website or way to contact them. i looked through several people before i landed on my decision. this being Ana Moniz,

as she later told me she worked as part of the retake team. there were two main reasons i emailed her in particular, she had a very sweet and charming website and on that website it said that she spoke English (as the animation team was international, i wasn't sure if this would universally be the case). below is a link to her website.

i decided to word the email casually and not try to be to formal. as i loved the show it was easy to give my honest praise for her work, but it was also nerve wracking to message a complete stranger. let alone a stranger who's a full fledged member of the industry you want to work in some day. waiting for a response also made me a little worried. below is a copy of the email i sent.

so suffice to say it was very exiting when I did get a response from her. she was incredibly polite and helpful in answering my questions. I could cover the knowledge I gained from her email but as I'm including it below I don't see too much point, as it can simply be read. of course in follow up emails I made sure to clarify if i could use her name and the info she'd given me, and she was kind enough to except, she didn't wish for her email to be published however so i made sure to censor it out of respect.

overall this has been the most exiting part of this module so far as i didn't realise i could reach out to an animator so easily and actually get a response. I'm so glad i my gamble paid off.
