buck and eddie are ❌NOT❌ golfers, they're the least golfy men i have ever laid eyes upon - this is an issue i am incredibly passionate about and have been since 6x17 love is in the air, do not try to change my mind, it won't work. however, there is a way they could fix both of these issues in one fell swoop. so. buck goes golfing with gerard as part of the 118's meticulously hatched plan to get him not only out of their station but the lafd for good. buck is the obvious candidate, he's a cis white man who, in gerard's head, is half straight and that's all they've really got to work with. the problem? buck is truly and terrifically terrible at golf. clearly he'll need some tutoring in order for their plan to work. and buck's like "hey, eddie, you golf right?" so cut to the driving range, a cheesy sports film montage of eddie demonstrating how to swing and buck failing miserably, he looks a little flushed and maybe a bit distracted - wonder what that's about. anyway, sun begins to fade, we're going real campy humour, we break out of the montage and eddie goes to get another basketful of balls for buck to hit. he watches buck practice his swing and shakes his head. "alright, cowboy, this clearly isn't working". no shit. "maybe you should just go instead, show up with your half swedish side". eddie's not giving up though. he gets a little flushed and awkward and shuffles up to buck, scratching at the back of his neck. "it, uh, might be, um, easier? if i could... could i, you know, put my arms around you?" buck's mouth drops open in a little o, he doesn't say anything as he turns pink as the sunset behind them. "sorry, i made it weird, didn't i? forget-" "NO!" buck winces a little at his outburst. "i mean, uh, no, y-you didn't make it weird, that might actually work" so with the face of a man about to be sent off to war, eddie positions himself behind buck and wraps his arms around him, adjusts his grip on the club and leads buck through the motions of a good swing. everything's suddenly very tense and taut. they hit the ball, it's worse than any of buck's previous hits. it lands in the netting and only just rolls over the edge. there's an "ow - what the hell" from below. they freeze, buck begins to shake with silent laughter, eddie cracks slowly, then they're both giggling, trying and failing to muffle it, eddie buries his face in buck's shoulder and laughs, buck suddenly goes quiet, but he's still smiling. "if i knew all i had to do to make you laugh was be piss poor at golf, i'd have tried this the day after chris-" "hey, at least you haven't broken my ankle yet" "it was just a sprain" buck mumbles, eddie grins. "let's try again" they swing together once more, the ball goes soaring. buck whoops and does a dorky little victory dance and eddie looks at him, bathed in the light of the sunset, and oh, he's the most beautiful thing eddie's ever seen. buck runs back over "eddie, we've gotta go again, c'mon, c'mon" eddie breaks out of his trance "yeah, gotta learn to do it by yourself. i don't think gerard would appreciate you showing up with me on your back like a koala" and scene.

I'm watching The Dead Files and thinking about Buddie (naturally, as one does) & the concept is there's a Medium who can communicate with ghosts, and her partner, a skeptic retired detective who does a deep dive into the background of the property - to find who owned the property, any deaths or traumatic events, as well as calling in like. plumbers and pest inspectors to make sure there's not a real-world explanation for various noises or feelings.
So of course, my brain automatically casts Buck as the Medium and Eddie as the Skeptic Detective, but idk... research ADHD buff Evan Buckley who spirals regularly into knowledge spirals is speaking to me....
Eddie Diaz, who doesn't believe in jinxes because he knows about ghosts and shadow people and demons and spirituality and so obviously, there's no jinx if you use a certain silly word. Eddie/Amy is also a little blunter and more realistic with their findings and Steve/Buck is the one handling the family and comforting them when they're scared.
Idk, I don't know that I'll ever write this fic or anything but I'm having a ball thinking about it.

Victoria and Amelia were unpacking their clothes in their shared room. "I think I'm going to like it here" Amelia spoke up to her sister.
Victoria smiled. "Me too" She noticed the way her sister frowned. "What's wrong, Amelia?"
"You don't think he'll find me here, do you?"
Victoria steps over to Amelia, and holds her sister in a hug. "I believe you're safe from him here. And even if he does come, I won't let anything happen to you, I promise"
Amelia smiles. "Thank you, Victoria" The two sisters let go of each other. Amelia notices David wearing the sheet over his body. She begins to chuckle. "David, you startled me"
Victoria turns her head and begins to laugh as well. "Getting ready for Halloween?" There's no answer from him. Victoria has a feeling. She approaches the figure. When Victoria gets to the figure, she peers into the eyeholes. There are a pair of eyes the closely resemble that of her sisters. Victoria takes the sheet off, revealing a ghost, with a striking resemblance to Amelia. Of course, Amelia herself doesn't see the ghost, but she knows it's there.
"He's coming" the ghost speaks. She then begins to float away. Victoria starts following her, and in turn, Amelia follows Victoria. They follow the apparition to the main hall where she is circling a chandelier, now with a second ghost that bears a strong resemblance to Victoria. The two ghosts are holding hands.
"He's coming" the ghost resembling Victoria speaks this time. The two ghosts stop circling the chandelier and they both fall backwards. The disappear once they hit the floor.
"What did it say?" Amelia asked.
"They said he's coming" Victoria answered.
"Who's coming?" Amelia wonders out loud.

Barnabas Collins had been freed from his imprisonment underground by a group of unsuspecting construction workers, who he had slaughtered and fed on. Now, he was making his way out of the woods. Barnabas stops in his tracks when he sees a bright light off in the distance. "Show yourself, Satan!" He calls to the light, not knowing that it's just the headlights from a car. "Mock me not with your strange luminance!" The light disappears and he continues. He stops yet again when he leaves the wooded area and comes across the road, but he doesn't know it's called a road. He steps on it cautiously and then kneels down to run his nails across the asphalt. "Curious terrain" He hears and noise and looks up. "What is this? Some specter approaches. It is the eyes of the devil himself, come to drag me to my judgement" He was, in fact, talking about a car that was approaching him. Barnabas spreads his arms out. "Have at me Lucifer. My soul is prepared!"
The car honks and quickly swerves out of the way to avoid hitting Barnabas. "Asshole!" The driver yells at him. And then the car drives off. Barnabas sees the sign the directs him to Collinsport. He begins his walk down the road and into the town. He worked his way through town until he came to Collinwood Manor. "My beloved Collinwood" Barnabas speaks when he sees his home. "What have they done to you?" Barnabas came across Willie, who was drunk and singing while he worked in the pumpkin patch. "Fear me not, drunkard. You shall not be harmed so long as you tell me all that I need to know"
Willie stood up and waved his flash at Barnabas. "Well, here's all you need to know" He slurred.
Barnabas knocked the flask out of Willie's hand. He then waved his hand in front of Willie's face. "See me, derelict. Look into my eyes and deliver me your innermost thoughts" He hypnotized Willie, but he only ended up falling asleep. Barnabas slapped his hand to Willie's forehead. "Awaken!" Willie woke. "Well done. Now, tell me, the Collins family--do they endure?"
Willie answers. "Ayuh, there's four of 'em"
"Thank heaven. Pray, what month is it?'
"October. That's why there's pumpkins"
"What is the year?"
"'72. Wait, '71" Willie just can't seem to make his mind up about what year it was. He finally settles on an answer. "Ayuh, 1972"
"1972?" Barnabas repeats. He puts his hand in front of Willie's face and starts hypnotizing him again. "Hear me, future dweller. You shall be my loyal servant until such time as I release you"
"So, what first, master?" Willie asks.
"You will cleanse me, miscreant" Barnabas orders. "And then you will take me to these living Collinses you speak of"
~
Willie brought Barnabas inside Collinwood Manor. "Have you ever seen such majesty?" Barnabas said.
"Every day" Willie answers.
"The perfect marriage of European elegance and American enterprise" Barnabas walked over to the pillar and ran his hand over it. "Nine of the finest craftsmen the world will ever know lost digit, limb and life in the process of carving these glorious pillars. And they all considered it worth the sacrifice, I assure you. The opulence and complexity of this magnificent chandelier" Barnabas looked up at said chandelier. "Should only be found in the places of nobility" He looked at the fireplace. "The fireplace sculpted entirely of the most  exquisite carrara marble from Firenze, Italia" Barnabas had yet to take notice of Carolyn and David, but they definitely noticed him. He continued to admire the fireplace. "Each joint containing a single pearl"
"Are you stoned or something?" Carolyn asked him.
"They tried stoning me, my dear" Barnabas answered, taking her question literally. "It did not work" Carolyn just stares at him, completely stunned. Barnabas turns to Willie. "When did they start allowing women of the night on estate grounds?"
"Carolyn" David speaks up. "Look" He points at the portrait of  Barnabas on the wall.
"Ah, yes. Uncanny, is it not?" Barnabas says, turning to look at the portrait. "Worth every hour is spent posing. Forgive me. My name is Barnabas Collins"
"I'm David Collins. Are we--?"
Barnabas interrupts. "Related? Distantly, you might say. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Master David" He holds out hand to David, ready to shake.
"Children!" Elizabeth calls out. David quickly pulls his hand back. "Get away from the man!" She comes marching down the stairs.
"He says his name is Barnabas Collins" David says.
"And I'm pretty sure he called me a hooker" Carolyn adds.
"That'll do, Carolyn" Elizabeth says. She approaches Barnabas. "A word, please"
~
Elizabeth brings Barnabas into another room so they could talk privately. "If this some kind of a joke, consider it played" She says to him. "If it's money you're after, I'm afraid you've been misinformed. But whoever you are, you're not to look at those children again. Am I clear?"
Barnabas is walking around and observing all the items in the room. "Your devotion to family is admirable, Madam. And your suspicion understandable. A stranger arrives  claiming to be a distant relation. The question of motive is to be expected. As a Collins, surely you are aware of the darkness that has long plagued our family"
Elizabeth scoffs. "You mean our curse. Witches, ghosts, and vampires. Myths. And, like so many before you, I suppose you're here to rid us of them" Elizabeth ever so discretely grabs a knife from off the table. "For a price, of course"
"I can prove that I am different" Barnabas assures her, coming to stop at the fireplace in the room. He begins running his hand along the mantle. "Firstly, I do not come seeking money. Rather, to provide it. Secondly,  I know the body of this mansion as well as I know my own. Every nook, every corner, every secret!" He opens up a secret room. He surprised at all the bright colours instead of the sight of treasure.
"That's where I keep my macrame" Elizabeth explains.
"A disgraceful misuse" Barnabas tells her bluntly.
"Impressive, but there are plenty of old houses with hidden doors. I hope you have a thirdly"
"Indeed. Tell me, what do you know of Barnabas Collins"
"Just legends, really. He was confident and strong. Admired by all. But, he believed our family was cursed, and when his parents were killed, he went mad. Went around insisting that a witch had turned him into a vampire"
"And what is known of his death?"
"Nothing. Not that I can think of"
"That, madam, is because he never died" Barnabas opened up another secret room. This one had stairs leading beneath the fireplace. "I am Barnabas Collins"
"That means you're--"
"A vampire, madam, yes. And most regrettably so" Barnabas said. Elizabeth clutched the knife tightly behind her back. Barnabas continued. "But, more importantly, I am a Collins and I give you my word of honor: Neither you nor anyone under this roof need fear my cursed nature"

Part 2 Part 3
Tumblr media
"You four back there, pull yourselves together now or I'll break you up!"
James' laughter could be heard all the way to the front, to my ears, along with the giggling of the girls next to me.
Great. So I must have been wrong again.
Professor McGonagall was now looking at me, teachingly. "To get back on topic. You have the right idea, but it's not quite that simple. To transform a body, it is of great importance…"
~
"Oh come on, it wasn't that bad. You weren't that far off the mark." Lily tried to comfort me. That was easy for her to say, she would never be wrong.
And the golden git Gryffindors would never make fun of her.
"Maybe."
"Evans, will you come here?" There stood the loverboy James, ready to have another go at her.
Lily rolled her eyes and smiled apologetically at me. "Don't take these idiots seriously, okay?"
With that, she walked in his direction, and did just that.
But I shouldn't be so hard on her because she was really trying to cheer me up, even though we're not really friends. She's clearly, well, more present than my friend Amy and me.
Amy was Gryffindor just like me, but didn't have transfiguration. She called the subject "A walking unnecessary babble".
Oh how I wish I had thought that when I chose my subjects.
I could still see Sirius grinning as James talked to Lily, Remus just stood there ashamed and Peter patted him on the shoulder.
Sirius noticed my look and whispered something to Remus, who flinched and turned away. I snorted.
Sirius' laughter was still ringing loudly in my ears, long after I had escaped to Amy's and my dorm.
~
"Well, I think they're really annoying. That's all." Amy pushed a plate of dinner towards me. She immediately realized something was wrong and I wasn't ready to go to dinner. I was very glad she was so good at the invisibility spell.
"Yes, but everyone likes them. Even Lily likes the four of them, even though she's always upset about them!" I groaned loudly and accepted the plate gratefully.
Amy looked at me with a smile. "Well, I don't really like them. They're entertaining, but I think they lack empathy."
"I think they're all stupid ego centers who only make themselves so important because they actually feel so bad about themselves." I took a big bite.
"And yet you can't stop talking about the four of them." Amy was grinning now. "I thought you said the other day that 'Remus isn't actually that bad and nice to talk to'?"
I almost choked at the mention of meeting the quieter boy of the group. It had been three months since we had met and talked in the library.
"That was something else. He just watches and lets the others get away with everything." I quietly turned to my food and Amy dropped the subject.
Oh, how I hated this cycle. Getting up. Eating at a house table where I know everyone and yet no one really. Subjects in which I will eventually make a mistake. Skipping meals to avoid the stares. Sleeping.
Hogwarts isn't that different from other schools. The same faces making fun of the same things. But we're all supposed to be adults soon, aren't we?
I should stop before I sound like an angsty teen.
~
Breakfast. New day, same course. I sat down opposite Amy and a laugh escaped my lips at one of her jokes.
But then another girl sat down next to me. Marlene McKinnon.
"Hey, you two, how are you?" she smiled, but something made me uncomfortable.
"Good, good." Amy laughed. "And you?"
"Oh, just fine." Marlene looked at my plate as if to check something. Suddenly I felt uncomfortable having a few chocolate cookies in the morning.
She turned to me. Oh no.
"Hey, this might be a bit sudden, but I'd like to know something." There was this twinkle in her eye that I didn't like at all.
I looked at Amy, who just shrugged her shoulders.
"Okay?" Very carefully. Don't make any big mistakes.
"If you had to date someone from Gryffindor, who would it be?"
I looked confusedly at Amy, who had to pull herself together not to burst out laughing.
"What?"
Marlene shrugged her shoulders. "Oh, I was just a bit curious as I've never seen you in a relationship with anyone before."
I saw her eyes twitch briefly to the right. When I looked in that direction, not very inconspicuously, I saw Sirius whispering something to James. He grinned at Remus in response.
Oh.
"Well, I can't really think of anyone right now, sorry Marlene."
She looked at me in surprise and wanted to say something, but Amy gasped in shock. Shocked, she clutched her chest. "After everything we've been through!" she didn't exactly say that quietly. To my dismay, quite a few heads turned towards us. Including the idiots.
"Amy-" I began, but she talked herself into her theater rage. "Hush! I don't want to hear any excuses! I thought we were something special! But no. In the end, I'm just another one of the many picks that will never be taken." She stood up. She skillfully looked away and took in the audience. "I can reassure you. I was prepared for all of this."
"Amy, it's not what you think!" I played along a little now. "I couldn't be so open about something so… Say something like that!"
Amy furrowed her brow. "Girl, no homo."
The Gryffindor table laughed and we fled the room.
Outside, we also laughed a bit, but Amy quickly composed herself.
"Did you see how he looked at you?"
I furrowed my brow. "Who?"
She rolled her eyes. "Remus, of course."
"Maybe it's because you made a big show," I said playfully, heading towards our next class.
"Hmm, but I think then he wouldn't have looked at you so longingly-"
"Amy!"
"With red cheeks and big heart eyes!" I walked faster while she laughed.
"That's all nonsense. Marlene only asked because one of those idiots requested it."
Amy looked at me confused. "Why would they do that?"
"Oh, they were looking at us too. And yesterday they were whispering among themselves. They probably find me really funny."
Amy became very quiet after that.
The only sounds were our footsteps and voices in the distance.
"You know," Amy began quieter than usual. "It's not like it used to be. We're all slowly growing up. We're not the odd ones out anymore. I think," she took a deep breath. "That the four of them won't make fun of us, of you, anymore."
How much I wished I could believe that. But I won't be able to, even if Remus talks to me in the library or Peter asks me if I like certain creatures.
Because in the end, I gave up on that a long time ago.

The idea was good, the execution not so much
Established Buddie x Reader, ft our fave Diaz Chris. You and Chris plan a surprise for the boys, it doesn't quite go to plan.
Tumblr media
The house was quiet when Eddie and Buck arrived home from a 24 hour shift. Usually when they finished at a reasonable hour they came home to hustle and bustle. You and Chris generally had music playing as you cooked up a storm throughout the kitchen.
Instead it was almost eerie silent in their house, in fact if it wasn’t for your car parked in the driveway they’d assume no one was home.
Buck shrugged at Eddie as they made the way down the hallway, peering in doors as they passed. It wasn't till they opened the door to the living room that they found any signs of life. Twinkling fairy lights were hung across the walls, basking the room in a light golden glow. Soft instrumental music was playing gently from the speaker and the table was set for four.
"What's going on?" Eddie whispered to his partner, Buck for his part looking just as bewildered. "Where are they?"
Buck shook his head in confusion, making his way into the living room. He spotted you and Chris pretty quickly, both sunk into the sofa fast asleep. Eddie followed him over and both men couldn't help the grin when they saw their partner and son, clearly accidentally napping while waiting for the boys to come home.
"Hi mijo," Eddie whispered, gently pulling Chris from your embrace and into his arms. "Dad! Bucky! You're home," He whispered wiping the sleep from his eyes.
"Mom and I were supposed to surprise you, we didn't mean to fall asleep,"
"We can see that superman." Buck whispered, "What's the big surprise?"
"Ay dios mio," Eddie suddenly exclaimed, staring down at Chris in shock.
"What Eds?" Buck questioned.
"Look at Chris' shirt Ev,"
Chris grinned stretching out so Buck could read it properly. There sprawled across his tiny chest were the words 'BEST BIG BROTHER'.
"Oh my god," Buck gasped, mouth opening and closing but no other words coming out.
"Surprise," You whispered nervously, having woken up from your nap to Eddie's shout of shock. Both boys whipped around to face you, as you grinned sheepishly.
"Baby, is this true? It's not a prank right?" Buck whispered, placing his hand across your stomach like he already expected a big bump to be there.
"It is, I found out yesterday. Chris and I had a big plan to tell you both, there's even a bun sitting in the oven," When Evan got a look of concern on his face you followed up with "the oven is turned off, I promise."
"You're sure? About being pregnant I mean."
"Positive, literally." Handing over multiple tests to each of the boys, all with the same result. "Chris was actually the one who mentioned it, I may be slightly bias but I think our son is a genius,"
"So Amy from school, her Mom is pregnant too and she was talking about how she is feeling sick and getting tired more often." Chris chattered happily, "So then when Mom was like that the last week I thought that maybe she was."
"That's great superman," Buck said absentmindedly.
You couldn't help but notice that Eddie hadn't even spoken yet, and Buck's tone was making you worried. While you had discussed expanding your family before, it was always talked about in the vague future and the idea that maybe they weren't ready was chewing you up.
"Hey Chris honey, I think you should get the card we made for your dads! I think it's sitting in your bedroom." He excitedly agreed, giving you a short time to talk to your partners.
"I know this is a shock, but is this okay? It's sudden but I love you both soo much and.."
"Baby," Buck interrupted, wrapping you in his arms. "this is the greatest gift you could ever give me. I can't wait to have another child with you two, honestly I can't wait to see Chris as a big brother." You sighed in relief knowing at least one of your partners was on board.
"Eds?" Buck whispered while directing the other mans head up gently with his hand and gently placing a kiss on his forehead. You both noticed the tears in his eyes as he struggled for words.
"I am so so grateful to you [y/n], for allowing me the opportunity to get to be a dad to another child again. I love you more than words can express." Tears of happiness began to fall down your cheeks as he pressed a soft peck to your lips and place his hand gently on your belly.
"And Buck, I can't wait to watch you be a Dad to this baby. You are an amazing parent to Chris but I am honored to be a dad with you again to this baby, to get to watch you Buck, and you too [y/n], get to experience every little moment together. Between us and Chris this baby is going to be so loved and cherished,"
Buck and Eddie wrapped you between them in a hug, whispering words of excitement and joy. You only parted when Chris came back in the room, a grin on his face as he thrust the card towards Eddie and Buck.
"Here" he grinned, passing over the card with the front reading '10 reasons why going to the zoo will help me be a better big brother!'

— tale as old as time
chapter two
chapter one
beast!remus x beauty!reader ★ 1.9k words
The sun had risen in Riquewihr, your father's chickens clucking outside of your small home on the outskirts of town. You tiptoed through the house to not wake up your father, grabbing and putting on your shrug that was laying over a chair. Collecting the book you had to return to Mister Longbottom from the dining room table you left the house, making your way into the town's center. You wrapped your shrug tighter around you as the brisk morning air ran a chill over you, your shoes echoing over the cobblestone path. You always went to the bakery first to make sure you got the freshest bread for you and your father.
"Good morning Madame Potter, you look puzzled." You chuckled as she walked up to the baker's stand.
"I woke up today feeling like I've lost something again, I just don't remember what." the merchant replied, one of her ceramic bowls in her hands as she looked around her space in confusion. She stopped her search to grab a fresh loaf from her basket and handing it over to you in exchange for a few coins. "Where are you off to today, amie?"
"I just finished reading this book, I'm on my way to return it now. It's about two lovers in northern Italy."
"Sounds boring." Lily scrunched her nose with a smile.
You laughed and waved at the red head , turning to walk towards the town's tiny library. You didn't have to look around to know that the other villagers were staring at you. Since arriving, your father and yourself were often pushed aside and looked down upon. Your father was older, and an inventor. Apparently being the two meant that there was something off in your head. And you, a young woman with no intention of finding herself a husband, were promised to a life of loneliness and poor lifestyle. Many assumed that once your father was gone, you would end up on the streets begging for scraps, a woman with nothing with the ability to read, deeming you useless.
Lucky for you, friendship was easily found in Lily Potter and Frank Longbottom, the kind owner of the library. You continued your stroll, the bell tower ringing to indicate the start of the day.
Tumblr media
The town square was the most colorful part of the village, stands full of perfectly picked flowers and buckets of the season's harvests. Vendors shouted over the crowd selling textiles and meats, a cleaver just barely missing your arm as you got pushed around the hustle and bustle of the market.
"Y/N!
A self proclaimed war hero. An arrogant hunter who all the women in the village were in love with. Evan Rosier was Riquewihr's most eligible bachelor, his tall stature and aristocratic features apparently the best thing since fresh bread. He wasn't the brawniest, but he held himself such a way that made all the ladies swoon.
"Here, beautiful flowers for a beautiful lady."
You did your best to keep a polite smile on your face as Evan just about shoved the bouquet into your arms. This unfortunately wasn't your first encounter with the hunter, and you feared it wasn't the last. You knew he was considered the most handsome man in the village, but no amount of attractiveness could overlook such a sour and vain personality. Glancing down at the colorful arrangement of flowers in her hands, you nodded towards Evan and took a step back to continue on your stroll.
"Thank you Evan, I'll see you-"
"Dinner, tonight. I'll arrive just before sundown." he smirked,
"Sorry, I'm busy!" You began walking away from him, the flowers slowly getting ripped apart as you squeezed you way through the crowd to further distance from him. Apologies Mister Longbottom, the books will have to wait for another day.
"Not too busy for a gentleman's company, I'm sure!"
You weaved around the market, slipping into an alleyway, holding your breath to hear if he was nearby. As soon as you saw him strut by, you let out a breath of relief, letting yourself leaning against the stone wall for a moment before turning towards the direction of your house.
Surprisingly, Evan wasn't even the worst part of Riquewiher. The villagers weren't as good at whispering as they thought, or perhaps they meant for you to hear all of the mean comments they made daily. You weren't oblivious to the nasty glares and insults. You didn't share the same miniscule mindset as everyone else, and you wished that one day you could leave it all behind and explore what else the world has to offer. Until then, your books will have to do.
With your little cottage just up ahead, the coast felt clear. But of course with your luck, an obnoxious smile and shiny boots stopped you in your path.
"That's a nice book you have there."
"Evan, do you read?"
You stand there looking confused as he let out a boisterous laugh, shaking his head. "What kind of man do you take me for, of course I don't."
"Of course, how silly of me to assume there was anything in that head of yours besides.. well, is there even a brain in there?"
"Ladies mustn't speak like—" You shut the door behind and blew out a breath, relieved to be at home in your safe space. Hearing your father's whistling from the dining room table, you smiled and walked over to him hunched over his newest invention. It seemed to be his favorite project, a small metal replica of what you believed to be your old family home in Paris. Inside sat tiny figurines identical to your father, mother, and a small bundle which had to have been yourself.
"I don't think the villagers like me very much."
"What's not there to like about you? You're beautiful, very smart, and most importantly, you're kind." he sent you a certain look, the side of his mouth twitching up. "Sort of like someone I used to know."
Your eyes softened at his response. It warmed your heart to know that no matter how much time went on since your mother's passing, his love for her never faded.
Your father gives you a sympathetic smile, coming over to kiss the top of your head before turning back around to collect his things and packing them in a trunk. That's right, it was the time of year that your father left town and traveled to the market to sell his work and meet other creatives. Though you'd missed him dearly, his trips took no longer than a few days.
"Alright my little flower, what shall I bring you back?"
"You already know father. All I'd like is a rose."

The journey to the market was a relatively easy and familiar one. Your father and family horse, Philippe, take the same woodland route every few months. Upon reaching a fork in the road he doesn't remember existing, a breeze of cold air runs through the forest, sending a bit of a chill throughout his body.
"Well Philippe, we've got to make sure we pick the right path." he laughed to himself , nudging the horse towards the right. This path was unfamiliar, but it couldn't take him too far off from his destination. Besides, he'd look bad making that joke to Phillippe only to take the opposite route.
He had to say, the treetops blocking out the sun did make it a little chillier, and the lack of the usual river he followed deprived him from the calming sounds of the running water. The two continued on through the forest, making the most of the greenery and the.. snow?
Philippe's hoof clacking became muffled as the fluffy snowfall increased, a far away howl waking up the artist from his calm state. He was not at the age to try an outrun any wolves, especially not with the precious cargo he had strapped to his horse. Nudging his hooved friend with his calf, they carefully trotted along. The sun had begun setting an hour later, making it harder to see for the older man. Philippe and himself were tired, they were not expecting for this journey to take as long as it had, perhaps he should've taken the left path instead. Just as he was about to give and set up camp among the trees, metal gates came into view. As they got closer, he realized that the metal gates stood at the entrance of a large garden, with an even larger castle standing tall behind it.
With the drop in temperature, your father wasted no time in passing through the gates, tying Philippe up outside, and entering the castle. The foyer was dark, apart from the warm glow from the crackling fireplace. He quickly made his way over to the the heat, rubbing his hands together and letting out a big sigh of relief from escaping the cold even just for a moment.
A clinking of ceramic pulled his attention away from the fire, eyes scanning the room. They finally fell upon a a teacup sitting on a saucer, sliding across the floor in his direction. The teacup then looked up at him with his eyes and spoke. "Papa said I wasn't allowed to move, in case I scare you. But you looked cold so I thought you might like a hot cup of tea."
He blinked, nodded politely while his mind ran a thousand kilometers a minute. "Right, well.. I actually-"
Your father may not be young enough to outrun wolves but he hopes he's faster than this teacup. Philippe's lead had never been untied faster, hoping he was only experiencing hypothermia induced hallucinations while inside. He mounted the horse find his way to his original destination when he notices rose vines nearby, a speckles of red peeking out from the sheet of snow.
"Oh," A cloud of cold breath joins his laugh, "How could I forget?"
Jumping off Philippe, he step towards the prettiest flower to take home to you, when a deep snarl stops him in his tracks. He looks up just as the shadow looming over him presents itself, shaggy fur and giant horns making him fall back onto the snow. He tries to crawl quickly back to Philippe but the monster took hold of his arm and dragged him back into the castle. The frightened horse manages to escape and run off, leaving his owner in the hands of the massive predator.
"Please, let me go! I'll never tell a soul I was here, I promise!" his cries echoed through the candle-lit stairwells on the towers, reaching no one. Roughly thrown into the cell by the creature, he sat with his back against the wall and held his arm in pain.
"Oh I'll make sure of it." The giant beast growled lowly, locking the cell door and stomping away.
Your father had slumped down in his cell, his heart feeling heavy thinking of you alone back home. The stone was ice cold and rough, and the cell had a large opening that led to nothing but what seemed to be a fifty foot drop to his death.
On the steps leading to the West Wing sat a clock, a candelabra, a teapot, and a teacup. They watched in sorrow as their master stomped passed by them to his bedroom where an encased rose sat, one of its enchanted petals falling off and wilting away.
