Now I am really really curious and want to know more about your theory of C&C and M&M not being close anymore in Beleriand and why you don't buy their super duper close relationship. I noticed that as well as the fact that C&C are the feanorians often linked not just to Aredhel but to the three Arafinweans, especially Orodreth and Angrod who in the many versions are actually close to C&C which honestly is pretty interesting and such cool thing.

oooh yeah sure, I'll talk about this! This is more contrarian headcanon-not-contradicted-by-canon than anything I came to organically, but it's now become my preferred way of thinking about them.

Anyway, first, I will clarify that my theory is not Celegorm & Curufin and Maedhros & Maglor not being close in Beleriand; it is that they were NEVER close, even in Aman. We know from the story that Fëanor's sons were fiercely devoted to him, but it's never said that they were especially close with each other. And with a father who was likely demanding, played clear favorites, and had piles of charisma, I could easily see the brothers' relationships being marked by jealousy and simmering resentment, but not in an 'every brother for himself' way. It seems M&M have a strong relationship and C&C do too. Caranthir is the odd one out where it seems like none of his brothers are too attached, and honestly there's so little about Amras & Amrod but from what's there they form another obvious pair. But yeah, C&C definitely have a lot connections to the rest of the family! And it seems like those friendships were created before the Darkening and the Flight, and then renewed after Maedhros' rescue.

After Fëanor's death, Maedhros leads his brothers, but here I don't think that's because of any especial familial love or 'big brother Maedhros protective power uwu', and more because as Princes of the Noldor descended from Fëanor they are a *political* unit.

Sidebar: I think the 'family' part of the family politics of the House of Finwë is super overemphasized and the 'politics' part languishes. Like, Maedhros' brothers owe some sort of political allegiance to him (I'd say fealty... but I feel like someone with more historical knowledge will jump out of the woodwork and 'well ackshually' me) -- they are not a normal modern family!!

Now, I think the common fandom interpretation of suffocatingly close and devoted sons of Fëanor is a reasonable conclusion to reach from reading 'Of the Return of the Noldor' and I don't think my 'brothers at odds' theory is more canon; it's more that I don't think close and devoted take is the only reasonable conclusion. I have in fact seen people discard an obvious interpretation of events off hand because of the fact that all of the sons of Fëanor were soooo obviously devoted to each other, any time they didn't seek each other out there must be *something* preventing them from joining their brothers.

I really must disagree -- while C&C seem very close as do M&M, I think it's just as likely that when they're all together they're an acrimonious bitter mess, and that Maedhros staked out lands for them out east not just to keep the peace with Fingolfin & Finrod, but also to reduce fighting between his brothers. Also, them being an acrimonious bitter mess together does not mean they aren't charming, fun even, apart. Finrod is friends with all three pairs (sorry Caranthir); there's the other aforementioned C&C Arafinwean friendships and Aredhel friendship; Maedhros is friends with Fingolfin and Fingon. They even form alliances with non-elves apart, with Curufin befriending some dwarvish groups independently, and different brothers forming different mannish alliances. And I haven't even mentioned Amrod & Amras and the green elves. This all points to the brothers being reasonable, personable people when separated, capable of forming friendships and political alliances both, and perhaps to some degree hating each other's guts when together.

Food for thought! I welcome any and all enjoyers of my 'the sons of Fëanor would rather not be in a room together ever again' theory.

Sneak peak at something I may end up writing🙂

It was a calm and twinkling time under the stars like always. They were where you got your life force as all of the elder did at this time not yet knowing of a sun or a moon. Through the woods there was a cool breeze sifting through your hair as you wandered through the trees and moss in that ancient forest. It was the sleep cycle; most people took their rest in these hours and so you were out . Time alone is hard to come by as a princess, especially with a people as dynamic and connected as yours. Your horse was trotting along content with the state of scenery. The trees loved all animals and guarded them from the wretched and foul foes when they could. You went further and further into the placid trees that wove their arms of safety all around. Who would be out here if they were bad anyways?

He needed an escape. That should be easy enough in a place as vast and untrodden as this but with enemies all around and a foreign terrain alone time was far less peaceful that it was dubious. Alone time now meant truly alone, at a time not so long ago yet so unreachable it meant side by side with a brother. They’d managed to cross the relentless ocean together just to ripped apart at the shore. Burning ships and gleaming swords. No. He couldn’t think about it. He was out here to get away from the egregious pain that came with proximity to his brothers. They ones that were left and so different. If he had somewhere to run off to he probably would. I’d he couldn’t have his family whole and united he wasn’t sure he wanted the scraps at all. It sounded bad but in every one of their faces his own grief stared back at him. Through wading grass and encasing trees he wandered. Their arms welcoming him into the forest like they did at home. Whatever dangers we’re out here probably weren’t as terrifying as the empty seats at the dinner table. Who ever was out here anyways?

(I’m sorry this is somewhat Americanized I just don’t have enough knowledge about anywhere else to make those allusions) (Also please reblog with your own headcanons or other thoughts!)

Feanor 

Philologist; studies language history

Often assists at various museums, colleges, archeological sites, etc

Has published several books and given many lectures 

Creates his own languages like Tengwar for fun, also is a hobby blacksmith

Teaches his children many archaic languages no one else speaks and takes his family on "educational" vacations 

Also attends every convention known to man, even ones that have seemingly nothing to do with his own interests, dressed to the nines and spends his time there signing books and debating other people 

Loves his wife just as madly as the day he met her and is ecstatic he married his high school sweetheart

Idolizes his father. Would have done great following his political career if he hadn't "ruined" his public image by becoming a teen parent, ultimately feels he's made the right decisions for his life though and is happy with his work

Rivalry with Fingolfin over who can host the best dinner party (and you best believe he wears smart-ass punny aprons while cooking a six course meal for his guests)

Nerdanel 

Professional sculptor and multimedia artist

Teaches classes at an arts college 

Is known to eat the fruit out of the bowls her students are sketching when no one is looking

Cannot cook to save her life 

Enthusiastically attends every possible event in her family’s calendar no matter the weather or lack of skill at a toddler dance recital 

Dresses in a fabulously bohemian eccentric artist way; stole the show when she attended the Grammys with Makalaure and has been featured in several fashion magazines 

Carries all sorts of art supplies and seemingly random tools in her purse at all times, including a chisel, googly eyes, edible glitter, a bajillion hair ties, DW40, and peanut M&Ms

Uses his intimidating stature and loud, deep voice to his advantage as needed

Was born while his parents were teenagers and still living with their families, he remembers watching cartoons with Grandpa Finwe and being babysat by his uncles 

Also attended his mother’s graduation from art school as a small child and clapped until his little hands hurt 

Is painfully aware of how all his younger brothers look up to him - literally - and sometimes struggles with the pressures of setting a good example, though he does much better than he realizes 

Drinks his coffee from a mug that reads “don’t make this ginger snap” (Nerdanel has a matching one)

The gayest gay to ever gay, informs everyone of this via cheesy tee shirts gifted from his brothers and cousins 

Drives a minivan, claims he chose it because it was the only car that would fit his legs and not because he can haul his brothers around in it

Created the score for a recent movie that bloomed his popularity and brought him to the limelight 

Has a Youtube channel with several music videos he definitely didn’t blackmail his family into filming with him

Used to skip school to busk in the train station and once caught his math teacher also skipping school 

Extremely popular with interviewers, camera crew, and other industry specialists for his kindness and crazy stories about his family 

Donates large amounts of his royalties to children’s hospitals and other charities 

Used to hog the bathroom in the mornings to put on makeup and style his hair 

Practices Beyonce dance routines in the mirror, has convinced Curufin to do them with him before 

Spent a semester studying in Sydney, Australia and fainted after encountering a large spider in his dorm room

Forest ranger at a National Park 

Works at outdoor summer camps every year, all the children love him and his giant fluffy dog

Also volunteers at animal shelters and the wildlife rehabilitation center at the National Park 

Creatine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; drinks so much milk Nerdanel used to tell him it was why his hair was white 

Wakes up at 5 in the morning to exercise (disgusting)

Got a long bow for Christmas one year (the note said Santa but he knows it was his mom) and practices in the backyard by shooting at Amrod’s pumpkins

Curufin

Ballet dancer since he was young, never succeeded with a professional career but still practices daily and chose his specialty to remain part of the scene 

Holds a serious grudge against certain critics that failed his entry to ballet academy (will not sell his products to them or their schools)

Always looking for new business opportunities, not always in the most honest of ways 

Struggles with self esteem issues 

Has several cats and claims they betray him when they snuggle with Huan but secretly finds it adorable 

Frequently collaborates with Caranthir to make elaborate costumes just for the fun of it 

Made a tiara for his favorite cat, Princess Paws

Amrod

Gardening Club President at his school 

Started a trade and barter farmers market after school to reduce waste and share the bounty of his and fellow club member’s gardens 

Frequently tries to convince his parents to turn their property into a “self sufficient homestead”, leaves pamphlets and pictures of adorable baby animals lying around the house 

Enlisted the help of his twin and Maitimo to build a chicken coop, forgot to ask Feanor’s permission first 

Demands payment in the form of fresh caught fish or deer jerky for the use of his gourds in Tyelko’s target practice 

Has definitely switched places with Amros to escape trouble or science tests 

Often neglects his homework for pursuits he feels are more important, will only do it without complaint when Carnistar tells him to 

Had eyes for the cool-looking red glow on the stove as a child and was banned from the kitchen for most of his adolescence 

Is generally a persistent and stubborn person (wonder where he got it from)

Amros 

Amateur photographer with an instagram following nearing one million 

Account consists of 95% nature photography and 5% “The Adventures of Huan and Princess Paws” as he follows them around the back yard 

Takes all of Makalaure’s headshots and creates his album covers, also photographs Curufin’s jewelry to upload to his retail website 

“Borrows” Carnistar’s prized PC to upload and edit his photos 

Conspired with Amrod to convince their elementary school classmates they were secretly Fred and George Weasley disguised as Muggles, ultimately failed because someone thought their accents “just sounded like they were copying Peppa Pig”

Still pulls out his British accent on occasion when someone needs cheering up 

Inherited Nerdanel’s keen observation skills, mostly uses them to blackmail his brothers into doing his chores 

But also gives the most amazing presents because he knows exactly what everyone truly wants

Alopex Full Name: Chouriki ‘Alopex’ Hisayo Age: 300+ (immortal) Gender, Sexuality, Pronouns: Cis Female, Bisexual, she/her Species: Anthropomorphic Arctic Fox Occupation: Foot Lieutenant Appearance: IDW alopex with purple stripes around her arms, metal tipped claws, a Foot Clan symbol tattooed on her hand, and orange piercings on her left ear Backstory: Hisayo and Takeshi were once inseparable. All to took was one night to tear everything apart. TC was exploring the Foot Clan barrier, studying the clan, its history, and the barrier itself. But he was getting too close to ruining their plans. A member of the clan, disguised as TC, attacked Hisayo. They wanted to turn her against TC, and it worked. She came back to their home bloodied and bruised, believing TC attacked her. When she saw them, she attacked. They soon split up and she headed in the direction of the barrier (albeit unintentional). Hisayo, Alopex now, works as the clan’s loyal Lieutenant. So naturally, the next step in life was science. In a world full of magic, she always believed science could be just as important and fascinating. But often times, her experiments aren’t very…ethical. But Orielle doesn’t think that what she’s doing is immoral, it’s all in the name of science for her. Carina Full Name: Princess Carina Amros Age: 29 Gender, Sexuality, Pronouns: Cis Female, Straight, she/her Species: Cupid Occupation: Princess of the House of Amros Appearance: Pale skin, purple eyes, curly silver hair, white heart pupils, white pink and gold wings, white pink and gold halo with little hearts around it Backstory: Cupids are tasked with matchmaking jobs, and as their princess, Carina gets the final say on these missions. Like most other cupids, she deems love as between a man and a woman. She thinks she’s great at romance but she can’t score anyone for the life of her. She’s been hearing reports of a Cupid who’s making matches between people of the same gender (Anton), and ahe’s made it very clear that that person will be found and face consequences. Extra Facts: - She tries to be a good leader but when it comes to romance she’s such an arrogant douche - Since she’s a princess her wings are bigger and can be used fly better than normal cupids - Her aim with a bow and arrow is perfect

He isn’t a fan of his royal role, preferring to study and explore his dimension. Almost every night he sneaks out of the castle to explore the seas, and when he has a meeting to attend to, he likes exploring land too. On one meeting, he met Lilly, and they’ve been best friends ever since. Extra Facts: - Most siraelia don’t have a terrain form, only the royals and any exiles do, but exiles like Xever are kinda cursed with that form, the really hate being so human - There’s a lot of pearls in his clothing and jewellery - Keeps a bunch of journals, has one for each of the Houses’ territories
