My reaction to that scene when the Ammut hits Tad into a stone pillar!
Tumblr media
Sorry Tad but there's no way I'm letting you off the hook for that one considering how hard that creature struck you in the chest and sending you flying like that with such force.
And he gets up like it's nothing not to mention the part where he got bashed in the head by one of those army guys when they got arrested, he could have suffer a concussion from that.
I'm just going to brush this off to adrenaline because we all had that experience in our life when we get hurt but don't feel it until after the adrenaline wears off
God knows that happens to me a lot.
Anyways back to this image...
I figured once they get to the nearest town in Egypt Tad’s adrenaline would immediately wear off and he would feel the effects of everything that's happened to him, Mummy sees this and would be quick to catch him the minute he stumbles.
While in a lot of pain Tad lets it slip to Mummy that Mummy Ammut slammed him against the pillar leaving Mummy flabbergasted.
Tad tries to brush it all off as nothing and it wasn't that big of an issue, he doesn't want to put any guilt on Mummy after everything they been through.
Follow up coming soon.

Day 12 of Smaugust is Mummy Dragon. This is based on Ammit or Ammut in Egyptian mythology. This is considered a type of dragon in the mythology so it totally counts.

Anubis is the god of death(psychopomp), mummification, embalming, the afterlife, cemeteries, tombs, and the Underworld, in ancient Egyptian religion, usually depicted as a canine or a man with a canine head.
Like many ancient Egyptian deities, Anubis assumed different roles in various contexts. Depicted as a protector of graves as early as the First Dynasty (c. 3100 – c. 2890 BC), Anubis was also an embalmer. By the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055–1650 BC) he was replaced by Osiris in his role as lord of the underworld. One of his prominent roles was as a god who ushered souls into the afterlife. He attended the weighing scale during the "Weighing of the Heart", in which it was determined whether a soul would be allowed to enter the realm of the dead. Anubis is one of the most frequently depicted and mentioned gods in the Egyptian pantheon, however, no relevant myth involved him.
Anubis was depicted in black, a color that symbolized regeneration, life, the soil of the Nile River, and the discoloration of the corpse after embalming. Anubis is associated with his brother Wepwawet, another Egyptian god portrayed with a dog's head or in canine form, but with grey or white fur. Historians assume that the two figures were eventually combined. Anubis' female counterpart is Anput. His daughter is the serpent goddess Kebechet.
Roles
Embalmer
As jmy-wt (Imiut or the Imiut fetish) "He who is in the place of embalming", Anubis was associated with mummification. He was also called ḫnty zḥ-nṯr "He who presides over the god's booth", in which "booth" could refer either to the place where embalming was carried out or the pharaoh's burial chamber.
In the Osiris myth, Anubis helped Isis to embalm Osiris. Indeed, when the Osiris myth emerged, it was said that after Osiris had been killed by Set, Osiris's organs were given to Anubis as a gift. With this connection, Anubis became the patron god of embalmers; during the rites of mummification, illustrations from the Book of the Dead often show a wolf-mask-wearing priest supporting the upright mummy.
Protector of tombs
Anubis was a protector of graves and cemeteries. Several epithets attached to his name in Egyptian texts and inscriptions referred to that role. Khenty-Amentiu, which means "foremost of the westerners" and was also the name of a different canine funerary god, alluded to his protecting function because the dead were usually buried on the west bank of the Nile.He took other names in connection with his funerary role, such as tpy-ḏw.f (Tepy-djuef) "He who is upon his mountain" (i.e. keeping guard over tombs from above) and nb-t3-ḏsr (Neb-ta-djeser) "Lord of the sacred land", which designates him as a god of the desert necropolis.
The Jumilhac papyrus recounts another tale where Anubis protected the body of Osiris from Set. Set attempted to attack the body of Osiris by transforming himself into a leopard. Anubis stopped and subdued Set, however, and he branded Set's skin with a hot iron rod. Anubis then flayed Set and wore his skin as a warning against bad people who would desecrate the tombs of the dead.Priests who attended to the dead wore leopard skin in order to commemorate Anubis' victory over Set. The legend of Anubis branding the hide of Set in leopard form was used to explain how the leopard got its spots.
Most ancient tombs had prayers to Anubis carved on them.
Weigher of Hearts
One of the roles of Anubis was as the "Guardian of the Scales."The critical scene depicting the weighing of the heart, in the Book of the Dead, shows Anubis performing a measurement that determined whether the person was worthy of entering the realm of the dead (the underworld, known as Duat). By weighing the heart of a deceased person against Ma'at (or "truth"), who was often represented as an ostrich feather, Anubis dictated the fate of souls. Souls heavier than a feather would be devoured by Ammit, and souls lighter than a feather would ascend to a heavenly existence.

Anput
Symbols:jackal, canopic jars, mummy gauze
Consort:Anubis
Offspring:Kebechet
Anput is a goddess in ancient Egyptian religion. Her name is written in hieroglyphs as jnpwt (reconstructed in Middle Egyptian as /ʔan.ˈpa.wat/ or /jan.ˈpa.wat/).In English, her name also is rendered as Anupet, Input, Inpewt, and Yineput. As the female counterpart of her husband, Anubis, who was known as jnpw to the Egyptians, Anput's name ends in a feminine "t" suffix when seen as jnpwt.
Draconian
Draconian-Egyptian Grimoire-Asenath Mason
Anpu, also known as Anubis in Greek, was the original Egyptian Lord of the Dead before the death of Asar (Osiris) that occurred with the rise of the Asar cult. As the stories go, Anpu vacated the spot as a sign of respect for Asar, and became the lord of the embalming process, funerals, graveyards, the weighing of the soul in the hall of Amenti, and ferrying the souls into the land of the dead. Highly shamanic, Anpu is a guide that can help us find the correct path when we seek his wisdom. Different myths have different lineages associated with them, but the oldest myths say he is a son of Ra. However, through the centuries his lineage changed several times, and drastically at that, as did his role as can be seen above. In his book "777," Aleister Crowley corresponds him to Hod on the Qabalistic tree of life, which is also where Mercury and Ilermes are placed, due to their psychopomp natures. However, since that was a later addition to the legend of Anpu, there would be a different Qabalistic correspondence for him that would correspond to our work. We will be working with him to guide us to deeper into the draconian mysteries of ancient Egypt that time has forgotten. We should also remember that the role of psychopomp attached to Anpu rose during the early Hermetic era, and didn't reflect earlier Egyptian periods and teachings.

Thinking about Mummies Alive again and that if the show was more true to ancient Egyptian mythology then Scarab would have run afoul pretty much the entire pantheon by killing Rapses.
Like...so many of the gods were devoted to protecting the Pharaoh, and cosmic balance was also a big thing in their cosmology. So I feel that Scarab’s whole “oh I’m going to murder the son of the man with the largest and most blatant amount of divine favor--who would have inherited that same favor--and use his soul to cheat death” scheme would have spat in the face of what the pantheon stood for.
Also, for a guy who’s utterly terrified of dying, I find it hilarious that he regularly allowed Ammut, the Devourer of Evil Souls, to just chill in his house on the regular. Honestly, any underworld deity would probably want a piece of Scarab, especially any that were particularly concerned with tombs and the desecration of the dead.
You know that Anubis once flayed Set and wore his skin as punishment for trying to desecrate Osiris’s body further, right? And Bes was a guardian of children? Scarab’s ass would have been grass.

Monster Spotlight: Ammut
Tumblr media
CR 18
Lawful Evil Huge Outsider
Adventure Path: Mummy’s Mask: Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh, pg. 82~83
Enormous, ravenous predators that stalk the long stretches of desert in northern and eastern Garund, the Ammut are feared cryptids in the nation of Osirion, the largest and closest civilization to their preferred hunting grounds. While it’s believed only a handful of these beasts exists, few know how many qualifies as “a handful.” What people DO know is to avoid stretches of territory where anyone finds the mark of an Ammut’s passage: A gigantic pawprint pressed into fragile, fused glass by the beast’s hellish body heat, known adorably as ‘blast bowls.’ Finding even a single one is a signal to give the next two-to-five miles of territory as wide a berth as your supplies allow, lest the beast catch the scent of a delectable morsel among your caravan.
Immune to both fatigue and exhaustion, impossible to hurt with Fire, and resistant to the chill of the desert nights (10 Cold Resist! as well as Acid, Cold, and Electricity), an Ammut that’s found something it wants to eat is a tireless persistence predator that can simply amble behind its chosen target at its leisurely 40ft/round speed until the victim collapses, surrenders, or turns to fight... At which point they typically end up dying horribly, and being killed more thoroughly than most people can imagine being killed.
Ammut do not feed on the body, nor do they consume the mind, or some esoteric facet of the victim like their fear, hatred, or love. They don’t even necessarily eat the hearts like the Ammit of Earth (which may be the divine progenitor of these beasts). The Ammut feed on what the hearts represent: souls. But not just any souls, like the common daemon might! You see, despite their hunger, Ammut are incredibly picky eaters, actually passing up potential meals if they don’t excite the palate enough. The Second Edition entry for these creatures even has an amusing anecdote from a survivor of an Ammut attack which had an extended conversation with the beast as it digested its meal, learning that the creatures prize the souls of complex and nuanced individuals who’ve lived full or interesting lives (i.e. adventurers)... and more than anything else, they enjoyed the souls of Evil mortals (like the proper Ammit). They’re ruthless scourges to desert bandits and sinister sandy sorcerers, but don’t let this trick you into thinking they’re trying do to the world a favor. No, they just like the taste.
And, as previously mentioned, a gang of adventurers is a perfectly fine snack.
To any creature attempting to avoid having their very existence erased, they have an incredibly tough fight ahead of them, and they will need to fight. Ammut do not give up on prey once they’ve spotted it, pursuing their victims until they die or it does (or until it spots something tastier, but this is unlikely), tracking them through any barrier or illusion they may try to raise with its array of senses, including but not limited to darkvision, tremorsense, scent, Detect Evil, and an eternal True Seeing. Their massive claws (2d6+13) and impressive jaws (4d8+19) can rip through most barriers, but what their muscles cannot pierce, their magic can make short work of.
Their main magical means of removing obstacles and separating the wheat from the chaff is their volcanic breath weapon, a blast of desert wind hot enough to ignite the air itself. This 30ft cone of superheated air deals 14d6 Fire damage to everything inside, and though it often doesn’t need it more than once in a given fight, the breath recharges in only 1d4 rounds. A starving Ammut will almost never use its breath weapon for fear of killing its intended prey outright and allowing their soul to escape its grasp, but a prowler wishing for a delectable experience uses it primarily to obliterate undesirables, clearing Commoners and weaklings out of their path; only those that survive the initial blast are worth eating.
That’s not all that’s magic about them, though it’s the primary one. Aside from their constant Detect X spells (Chaos, Evil, and Good), Ammut can unleash a Quickened Ear-Piercing Scream to deal 5d6 Sonic damage to a single target and potentially stun it long enough for the beast to close in for melee. If all else fails, they can use Dominate Person 1/day to turn foe into friend, twisting a party against itself. Dominate is especially useful when the Ammut wants to preserve a meal, consuming a choice party member while Dominating another morsel, keeping them close-by for when it becomes peckish again. It’s like having a lunchbox that can fight alongside you!
Aside from whatever thralls they may have (or gain during the battle), Ammut are gloriously simple in combat, as one may expect from any chimeric monster, complicated primarily by their thick hides (DR 15/Good and Slashing) and made worse by the aura of paralyzing terror which surrounds them, afflicting anyone who fails a DC 29 Will save with a fear they cannot overcome until they’re further than 30ft away. What’s scarier than their aura is their mouth; their jaws can Grab victims they successfully bite, and victims that fail to escape in time are swallowed whole and taken into a space comparable to the fires of Hell. Within the Ammut’s inner furnace, victims take 3d6+16 bludgeoning and 4d6 Fire damage every round until they force the thing to regurgitate them or succumb to the damage, at which point their bodies are reduced to ash and their soul is utterly devoured to the point that even Wish and Miracle struggle to bring them back.
Even escape from the gullet is no guarantee of safety, for anyone who spends even a single round in the stomach is cursed with a terrible wasting as their soul is digested even while they’re outside the chimeric horror. Victims must succeed a DC 29 Will save every hour until the curse is removed, taking 1d4 Charisma drain each time they fail... And hitting 0 Charisma causes their bodies to turn to ash, their souls instantly drawn into the Ammut no matter how far away it is and consumed utterly as though they never escaped in the first place.
You can read more about them here.

R: I'm a little late to asking, but could you talk more about your adventure to hidden portions of Amarna, Agent? Despite setbacks, it must have been utterly riveting to be surrounded by so much history.
Of course! It absolutely was.
I will mention, going in, that the reality of my world is... a bit more fantastical compared to historical record. Of note: The Aten sun disk is a very real entity, one of the sun-eaters whose captivity was used to shape my world and whose presence leeches a virulent, corrupted for of magic into its surroundings.
I was initially called out to the neighboring inhabited city of al-Merayah on reports of suspected smuggling activity outside of the known rings in the area, as well as fears of the famed Plagues of Egypt appearing again. On arrival, the city was under siege with a local militia, the Marya, defending against the modern followers of Aten.
It was eventually determined that the earthquake that led into the reappearance of the plagues was actually caused by the magic keeping the true city of Amarna concealed failing, due to a pileup of complicating factors, time being a significant one.

For the month and some I and a handful of Council of Venice and Marya agents operated in the city, the sun/sun disk barely moved in the sky, night never fell, and it was perpetually sweltering.

The drawings of the seven gods on the map represent the Sentinels, seven monuments to the depicted gods containing the souls of the seven children of a high priest of Amun-Ra, bound to the city to seal and obscure it and to keep Akhenaten from rising again.

Monument of Meretseger and chamber interior - original posting
Her name was Moutemouia, third child of High Priest Ptahmose. She was tasked with keeping the city concealed and it was her strength and conviction wavering that ultimately let us in. The siblings were able to communicate both through their monument or through the smaller statues decorating the monuments' inner chambers.
Thutmose (Horus), Nefertari (Ma'at), Moutemouia (Meretseger), Hemitneter (Sekhmet), Moutnefert (Satis), Nefertari the Younger (Bast), Huoy (Anubis).
Moutnefert dreamed of travel. Ptahmose brought her postcards and stories from the outside, but she always wanted to see it for herself. Nefertari the Younger and Huoy were just excited to have someone new to play games with them. Hemitneter was itching to take the fight to the Atenists directly, haha!
...All of them were starting to wonder if they'd outlived the gods they'd stood for.
Most of the time we were there, I was helping the Sentinels with their tasks while they taught me the spellwork to access Akhenaten's tomb so he could be dealt with directly. I got to help herd souls to the afterlife, feed the corrupted to Ammut, harass the modern living and mummified original incarnations of the Atenists.

Assorted photographs of the area - original postings (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
As can probably be expected time, warfare, and modern cultist and monster activity has seen the collapse of many structures throughout the city. Most civilian dwellings are likely to have failed by this, but several of the larger structures and temples have remained largely intact. The black sludge forming on the trees and ground (image 4) and also polluting much of the limited water supply is the manifestation of the Aten's corrupted magic, as is the spider-like monster inhabiting the temple (image 5). The creature in the sixth image is a human that was heavily mutated due to exposure to this magic during the mummification process - possibly with direct influence from the Aten itself as not all mummified cultists progressed to the same degree as this particular one did. Most Atenist (and Sol Invictus, present in the wider area) mummies retained normal human proportions, but a select handful attained more monstrous forms.
As the investigation progressed, there became an increase in seismic activity that was eventually determined to be emanating from beneath Akhenaten's pyramid.

There is a story among the Jinn that the first of their kind, immediately upon its creation, refused to be made subservient to any creature and so consumed its own name so that it couldn't be used to control it.

Jinni tablet cotaining the story of the First Jinn, The Fabled Genie of the Lamp - original posting with full translation
According to their lore, the Unbound was eventually deceived by King Soloman who trapped the Unbound in a magical prison (by human versions, a lamp) and hid that lamp deep underground, away from anyone that the Jinn could tempt into releasing it on the promise of granting a wish.
It was fascinating! As we were researching the earthquakes, we became increasingly aware of a voice that being projected through them. I have a couple of recordings here and here!
And using the Jinn's writing, I was able to locate and access the passage that led beneath the pyramid!

Assorted photographs of said passages - original postings (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) Image 5 contains insect religion! They were congregated and seemingly worshiping the imagery of the scarab!
I have a few posts of artifacts I came across too! Here, here, and here!
I was able to locate the First Jinn's containment as well. The modern Atenists had been using explosives to hunt for artifacts in and around Amarna and had caused a piece of the ceiling in its chamber to break loose, damaging an anchor for the wards around it.
Tumblr media
First Jinn's chamber with damaged anchor and containment device - original posting
Much of the technology used through the chamber and passages are believed to be Third Age in origin, a version reality that was overwritten by our current one. Solomon was supposedly native to it, and one of the few (probable) humans to have been able to retain themselves through the transition. Third Age magic and technology are difficult to replicate due the world simply not working the same way anymore.
In any case, I was able to get the anchor patched up and working again.
And then I broke into the Black Pharaoh's burial chamber and confronted him directly. I. Admittedly didn't get much of an opportunity to appreciate most of it. A large conflict broke out between the Atenists and the allies I brought, and I was urged on ahead to face the more serious threats. The Sentinels backed me up.
...Someone from one of the groups I had allied with shot me after the dust settled. They stole Akhenaten's body and staff before anyone else could get in to stop them and I was nearly fired for disobeying orders and having anything to do with them in the first place, so. I never got too much of a chance to look around the pyramid unfortunately, haha...! I have a few pictures of its exterior at least.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exterior of the Black Pyramid - original postings (1, 2, 3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frescos found in chambers around the pyramid depicting: (1) The birth of Akhenaten's son, Tutankhaten (later Tutankhamun), (2) The formation of the Marya under Tutankhamun and Thutmose, (3) Ptahmose sacrificing his seven children to seal the Black Pyramid and Akhenaten, (4) Akhenaten's lineage with his son and wife, blessed by the Aten, and (5) Akhenaten's judgement and execution before Ptahmose, High Priest of Amun-Ra.
Ptahmose and his children were all released from their duties following Akhenaten's defeat, and the curse on the city has been fading since. I haven't spent much time there. It's hard to see the Sentinel's monuments still there and so empty without them.

I was planning on mentioning this before Assetvreek on deviantART has managed to get the assets to some of the Tad Jones game characters I say about a week ago when I discovered it.
I tried myself to put the assets through blender but I had to do a lot of converting just to get it to work on there and then when I did all I was able to get to work on there is just to mesh itself but they are and the amateurs don't work on there I tried manually setting up an Armature on it but again that's a no-go.
assetvreek mention that it worked when he did it through Daz maybe I'll give that go a see if that can work with these characters.
Funny story I was so closes with the rigging on the Ammyt as a test but that was a instant fail. I'm chalking this up to Blenders consent updating.
You can see in his gallery and pleases be civil

that’s indeed a big possibility! mummy gets new follower and tad goes to check, gets suspicious and throw it away (and maybe scold mummy in the process) at first i thought the phone lost when mummy crashlanded in the desert but yeah i haven’t seem him using it again after egypt damn whatever happened on that sewer? looks like a lot hmmmm also yeah that ammut thing, i need to see if mummy has croc tail when he’s making insta status on paris sewer area and woop there’s clip on twitter (old one but now in its uncropped glory) https://twitter.com/soy_momia_54/status/1557329052779806726?cxt=HHwWjICw1beh35wrAAAA
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hmm that one seems to be in same area as this, whichever happened first
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but this one after he got the tail is a bit different hmm
Tumblr media
still in same sewer, different area somewhere between the two scenes, ammut mummy happened for the first time (and probably the agents saw it too) also did mummy got separated at some point in the sewer? maybe not for long but enough to loop back somewhere to have some distance to charge at tad as ammut....probably the agents catching up with them in the sewer and they have to spread out and regroup to confuse them? only for mummy to run at different direction and the agents singling him out....
Day 17: More foreshadowing?
This post is about the Tad's instagram and his latest post:
Tumblr media
WHAT WE LOST IN SUMMER
[Tad: And what have you lost? This summer I have to locate the emerald table 🤭]
[Mummy: It's clear. The phone 😂]
We know technically Tad hasn't lost the emerald table at the beggining (unless it gets lost later) but I'm thinking... what if he loses some of those things and this post is actually foreshadowing what he is going to lose in the third movie.
We saw his backpack in that Mexico clip, so it's going to appear, but will it get lost at some point? Is that going to be important to the plot? Or maybe the keys get lost? Dunno if the sunglasses are important but who knows?
Mummy actually foreshadowed in his Twitter his relationship with credit cards before his introduction image confirmed that "you shouldn't give him your credit card" so this instagram post could be another way to give us little clues for the third movie.
Speaking about Mummy, he said in that comment he lost his phone.
Hmmmmm. And that phone in the image actually belongs to Mummy, not Tad. Could it be...?
We don't see Mummy using his phone in Egypt in the screenshots nor in the clips and promotions. Even when he found that waterfall place "lit" he didn't take a picture of it or a selfie which is the most obvious thing Mummy would do.
This could indicate that in Paris, Mummy lost his phone.
Or most likely...
Tad made Mummy lost his phone.
Mummy is very attached to that thing, specially because he's recording everywhere he goes. And that's the problem, they are being persecuted by the police and Mummy is practically giving them their head on a silver plate even if that's not his intention.
Not to mention that in a clip in the sewers, Mummy says that to be a hit online, you should be very active and suddenly he gets very excited as a new person started to follow him.
We know by this point that Pickles is at best incompetent, so it's possible that the new follower is Agent Ramirez (or someone from the military passing as a common person) and obviously, Tad panics as he throws Mummy's phone and starts to shout at him about "how are you so stupid/idiotic/careless, now they know where we are!" and Mummy, being devastated for losing his phone to the sewers or Tad scolding him (or maybe both things) starts to transform into Ammit and the rest is history.
Did I make a whole theory about a summer post? Yes, yes I did.
But I still find very weird that Mummy doesn't have his phone in Egypt. But still:
Tad throwing Mummy's phone into the sewers in a fit of anger and worry >>>>>> Mummy being so clumsy that his phone falls into the sewers.

Anne: I’m sorry
Mummy: you are?
Anne: I’m sorry for being rude and judged you by his appearance without really knowing his kind heart and innocence
Anne: I also felt bad about that I took off the disguise, I got disgusted with you being half yourself and half ammut.

OSIRIS, the Egyptian god of the underworld, appears to have been a strong element in Egyptian mythology from the beginning. Before he became the Egyptian god of the underworld, Osiris had quite a history. Osiris was the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, the underworld, and the afterlife. He is usually depicted as a man with green skin and a beard associated with the pharaoh, wearing a crown with two large ostrich feathers, and legs partially wrapped like a mummy. In his hands he holds a flail and a symbolic crook.
NAMES
Osiris is a Latin word. In Egyptian hieroglyphs the traditional rendering of the name is Wsjr. Some Egyptologists refer to the deity as Aser, Ausar, Asar, Asari, Ausir, Ausare, Usire, Usir, Wser, or Wesir. The English translation of the name is Almighty or The Powerful.
This is how he was perceived among the ancient Egyptians and his name was celebrated with much prayer and ritual activity for thousands of years. He was also worshiped as the shepherd god. Archaeologists point to him being pictured with the shepherd's crook as evidence of this designation.
TITLES
His name appears during Egypt's Fifth Dynasty, although he is said to have been worshiped since the First Dynasty. He is also mentioned in later Egyptian documents, including the Contending of Horus and Seth, the Shabaka Stone and the writings of ancient Greek authors.
Osiris was given many titles. He is sometimes referred to as "King of the Living" and "Foremost of the Westerners". Both of those titles were given to him because of his being the ruler of the dead, whom the ancient Egyptians called Westerners or The Living Ones.
Considered to be a merciful judge of people in the afterlife, Osiris is also credited with the fertile flooding of the Nile, the sprouting of vegetation, and the granting of all life. Some of his other titles and attributes include the Lord of Silence, the Lord of Love and He Who is Permanently Benign and Youthful.
APPEARANCE
Ancient paintings of Osiris often have him colored green or black. Green is said to be the color ancient Egyptians associated with rebirth. Black was the color associated with fertility: it was the color of the rich, fertile soil which stretched over the plains each year, when the River Nile overflowed, and played a huge role in Egypt's prosperity.
In some rare instances, Osiris was depicted wearing a crown that included a rendering of the moon. This has led some researchers to surmise he was associated with the moon or the night.
HISTORY
Osiris is told to have been one of five children born to the god of the earth and the goddess of the skies, Geb and Nut respectively. Through this family tree he was also a great-grandson of one of the most popular Egyptian gods, Ra. Osiris had four younger siblings who would also play critical roles in his story: his brother Seth and two sisters known as Isis and Nephthys.
As the firstborn child and son of Geb and Nut, it fell to Osiris to inherit the throne of Egypt. Seth married Nephthys and Osiris married Isis. Together, Isis and Osiris seemed to have possession of numerous powers. Their marriage was not destined to be happy, however.
At one point, Nephthys appears to have magically taken on the appearance of Isis and presented herself to Osiris as his wife. Not knowing the difference, Osiris was seduced by Nephthys and she became pregnant and gave birth to Anubis.
Later, Seth developed a vendetta against his extremely popular sibling, possibly either because Osiris had inherited the throne or because he had gotten Seth's wife pregnant. At any rate, Seth sought to kill him by luring him into a coffin and drowning him in the Nile. The annual flooding of the Nile River is still thought to be representative of this event.
Isis managed to recover her husband's body; however Seth was very stealthy and stole away with it. After cutting up the body of the Egyptian god of the underworld, Seth hid the pieces throughout the Egyptian desert.
The connection between Isis and Osiris was so strong that the Egyptian goddess proceeded to spend a number of years searching for the mutilated body parts of her husband. She finally managed to find all of the pieces save one, and is believed to have used her magical powers to restore her husband's body.
Although there are different versions to this part of the story, it seems Isis became pregnant, presumably by Osiris and gave birth to a son, Horus. Osiris died once again and descended to fully assume his duties as Egyptian god of the underworld.
Some versions of the history of Osiris state that when he descended into the underworld he took over several important roles and duties as Egyptian god of the underworld from Anubis, who was believed to have been his son. Other tales contend that he rightfully obtained the important role as Egyptian god of the underworld because he was the first god to have died. However he obtained the role, it became Osiris' responsibility to judge the souls of the dead.
FERTILITY, RESURRECTION, AND EVERLASTING LIFE
It is said the dead kings of Egypt would rise with Osiris and inherit eternal life. By Egypt's New Kingdom it was said not only would the dead kings rise from the dead with him, but any Egyptian that performed the appropriate rituals would also. This belief that Osiris is responsible for new life after death caused him to be associated with the New Year and the cycles of nature.
His worship continued to be popular until the rise of Christianity. At that time the Romans began to suppress the Egyptian religion and actively promote Christianity. Even in the face of active Roman suppression of the Egyptian religion, many people, Egyptians and others, continued to revere, sacrifice to, and worship him secretly for hundreds of years.
To the ancient Egyptians, Osiris' resurrection after being slain by his evil brother Set represents the new beginning for good after it has defeated evil. To them, the tale was symbolized by the sun going into the world of the dead each night and being reborn with each new day.
As such, he came to be identified as the Creator god who is king of the underworld and the afterlife and who controls life, death, rebirth, and resurrection. A pillar of continuity, representing the phallus created by Isis, became a symbol of the Ba or power of Osiris and was used in his worship.
Ancient Egyptians believed the deities Anubis, Ammut, Henefer, Ma'at, Osiris and Thoth would greet the person in the afterlife and perform the weighing of the heart ceremony. The person's heart was weighed against the feather of Ma'at. If it was lighter than the feather they had lived a good, truthful life and would spend eternity in the kingdom of Osiris.
WORSHIP
In ancient Egypt, worship of Osiris was an important part of their everyday life. The story of his death at the hands of Seth and his 72 accomplices was retold each year as part of their worship. It was a story of regeneration and rebirth they saw play out each year with the cycle of the flooding of the Nile.
Egypt was a very fertile place, one of the breadbaskets of the Old World. The ancient Egyptians attributed much of this to Osiris and they held many ceremonies to give praise to his name, actions, and attributes.
Seen as the first king of Egypt, his symbols, the flail and the shepherd's staff, became important symbols of the pharaohs that came after him. His reign was viewed as the ideal which succeeding Egyptian rulers attempted to emulate. To his followers, he represented a time of peace, unity, and fertility.
Osiris was the good shepherd who was loved by his people and it was felt that paying homage and venerating him would help Egypt and Egyptians to be successful. It was believed worshiping him would forever ensure fertility, prosperity and plentiful crops on the banks of the Nile.
CELEBRATIONS
The celebrations dedicated to Osiris, including the Great Mystery Festival and a 5 day religious ritual, were held each spring. They included plays, story telling, religious services, feasting, and fun. Some of the celebrations commemorated his life by planting grain moistened with water from the Nile in gardens in the shape of Osiris. The grain's subsequent germination and growth symbolized his death and resurrection.
Egyptians believed the sprouting grain symbolized his unwavering vitality and strength. The people praised Osiris as 'The one who came from heaven and was the bread which sustained the lives of mankind'. He was called 'The one who continues to be perfect'. These celebrations were held in the last month of the inundation of the Nile.
QUICK FACTS
Osiris was one of Egypt's most important deities.
His exact origin is obscure, but he was known to have been a local god in Busiris, a city in Lower Egypt.
He was worshiped in the temple at Abydos.
He was later worshiped as the Hellenistic god Serapis.
Greco-Roman writers associated him with Dionysus.
Many modern people mistakenly refer to the Eye of Horus as the Eye of Osiris.

Do you think that in the Tadeo Jones universe, some people (average or rich people) think living mummies aren't persons but some creatures they can capture and claim as their own 'cuz they have no rights? (as mentioned by Tad in Movie 2) Kind of like the Apex's view of denizens in IT. I think this could be adressed in Tad 3. But I'll be sad because Mummy is going to find the hard way that for powerful people, his feelings and opinions doesn't matter (Twice, if we count the Spanish conquista)
Ohhhh man!
I have been-- stewing over how best to answer this since I saw it yesterday, because part of me has IDEAS-- the other part has a rant that has kind of been building for a while in general when you just examine the movies and the setting and even the actual community represented in reality(that being Archaeologists not-- well)
And LOOK-- I have TEA!
Frustrated, frustrated tea regarding other aspects of how this all could play out that basically boils down to the one major issue that a lot of those groups has is the issue of "But WE all know!" and the we've boxed this in already.
Which-- Debatably, Tad isn't the only one with some issues... But Sara has-- at least insofar as her reactions to Mummy in movie 2, come to terms past her more nebulous in concept repeated line.
Tumblr media
"Mummies can't be alive, it's a contradiction in terms"
Which-- actually might be an issue that's just on the question of the life/death binary more than it is actually a question of whether someone is human/a person or not. And we ALL know she's definitely got Major Respect over Tad--
Like, I will write a proper analysis over their "Mummy gives advice/pep talk" scenes later-- but--
Sara doesn't just take it and run how Tadeo does-- and she doesn't get hyped about it either. It's soft and subtle and just ARGH--
--
Which, okay beside the point, but I have-- so much on this idea of how people view Mummy-- Because let's for a moment consider what Tad actually says-- in answer to Mummy's "What is with you?" and I want to also talk on what people tend to associate with and call monsters... and how... that might also factor into this whole mess.
Tumblr media
"Listen you're a mummy, you scare people. In my world you're a zombie!"
Which-- okay, on the surface this is just an on the nose point about how well, Mummy is undead. Ahahah, the living dead and I suppose living mummies are their own form of zombie-- although really it's more like they're cousins as zombies are usually more... in process of decay while mummies are preserved/petrified... Buuuut in any case... not the point here really.
But rather...
Let's talk about how "Monster Movies" come in here. And what zombies tend to be synonymous with nowadays. You know-- for the most part. Mindless, brainless, sometimes killers though not always-- But ultimately-- Does... anyone actually watch zombie shows for in-depth exploration of zombies ever anymore? Aside a few exceptions, and same in games-- Zombies are relegated to just brainless/mindless monsters.
Which--
On the other side of that-- monsters.
Tad never quite uses that word but--
Tumblr media
"First, you're not human"
Mummies-- are monsters. In stories and fiction. Used to scare, used to awe, used to add scenery dressing, spooky, freaky, creepy-- and when they're not-- well it's rare. But if they're not the villains, they're not "human". Which think about that for a moment, in all the monster stories we have but a few where the monsters aren't outright put in that position.
But a monster is usually in a story put into one role and box. And if they're not outright there just to be spooky, or the whole new misunderstood monster trope-- which well, that's a whole other thing. But we all know the usual "monster shtick".
Violent, scary, simple, dumb, driven by base impulses, nonhuman, Very, very often as lesser, other, and something to be feared/hunted/destroyed.
And while modern day does move away from that--
ISSUES still prevail.
And I have-- just got to aside here, but like, thinking on this but-- the Phone Mummy sign outside of Tad's window as a child has some... other weird things. Because as a wild aside, my dumb brain has decided to A - B link this with a series I watched on television from 2005-2007
Tumblr media
Because of THIS stupid Mummy Scam Artist character. And it's dumb, has nothing to do with the issue of mummies(and other potential beings and creatures of myth and legend) having less rights. But this whole phone billboard-- with the Mummy, it's legit right up this character's kind of scam alley and I may or may not one day just rewatch his two villain episodes to get his personality clear in my head JUST to do a dumb crossover.(And for nostalgia, but that's not news)
BUT--
Advertising does tell us some things already. In how people possibly think and could respond/react.
Yet still-- there is something more I think that we're missing in this conversation on how people will potentially treat the discovery of a living mummy. Or really any supernatural being. If not with fear(which look-- fear the unknown, fear different, fear of monsters), arguably those who're intrigued, interested could be far, far worse.
Also-- I just have, much tea on other responses for even those who might briefly "respect" him. Because look-- Mummy would be a priceless artefact in a way, treasure and discovery all on his own-- BUT also a new potential source of information of a culture that for the most part has been lost and erased by history.
People could and would ask questions.
Whiiich is where I have doubts about how they will accept the answers to those questions. Because here's the thing, for all the Archaeology community loves to act as if they let discoveries speak for themselves, and even I suppose historians-- There are just-- so many times I watch and listen to documentaries and get SO FRUSTRATED-- because they're stubborn IDIOTS, who actually refuse to take in the evidence in front of them of any truths outside of what they're SO SURE has to be the TRUTH!
For those who speak of learning all about history and it's secrets, they're so damn high and mighty to reject anything that doesn't immediately fit with already established "facts". It must be an anomaly, aliens, can't be what we're actually seeing right--
And well even people today interacting-- Like-- I've seen people try to correct someone on the pronunciation of their own name before.
So I am almost certain there would be at least one idiot who'd be all high and mighty and just-- Mummy has LIVED it. It's his culture he grew up in and some idiot speaking over him saying his lying, which I just-- I am certain would happen(but probably not in canon because who would DARE?!)-- Just "EXCUSE ME?!"
Which is it's own kind of disrespect and hell, crash Tad's pillars again. Yes please!
Which... on that account--
Tumblr media
I kiiiind of want to talk about how Tad needs a smack on this... and that wake up to the truths of the high and mighty and bloody prideful issues of the community. BUT more than that-- I actually want to think about that point you made about how Mummy's supposed transformation in movie 3 comes across and the further themes of this question of humanity and rights is in regards to this whole issue.
Because yeah, there's the issue, front and CENTER.
Tumblr media
The question/implication of this resembling Ammut, and implied loss of humanity. Along with the fact that Tad's the likely TRUE CENTER of the curse-- since he's the idiot who opened the sarcophagus in the first place...
WHICH CAN I JUST SAY--
There's a very good possibility in regards to that issue-- potentially having to do with some of Tad's more... subtle issues. Or even the ones that are close to the surface and yet not. I've screamed already on Tadeo's Internalized Ableism... along with some small nods to Mummy's own less severe cast with that but-- This is directly playing into that image of monsters and nonhumanity--
And I could probably add an additional few pages of speculation onto this but--
I actually am... also worried for the pets. If only because uhhh, have you seen the original two Tadeo Jones shorts from before it become movies? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XxhNMbpE2A & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoJBzI2AUOw
I mean not assuming anything, but I can definitely believe they wouldn't be above having that threat present at the least.(I mean just that second one... with what I guess is concept-Jeff) Even if Mummy is most definitely going to be the one at the MOST RISK. But with that-- comes the question of humanity.
And while yeah-- I do imagine, all too easily there will be many people more focused on the discovery-- I think there's an interesting mess that Tadeo is going to be FORCED to confront with this-- in how he has that displaced view.
Because here's the weird thing.
I've kind of mentioned it before but not really expanded or explained very clearly-- but for all of Tad's issues... he cares about Mummy probably more than he even really realizes. It's in small to big things as well. Again-- for all his trash behaviour in movie 2, I do think a lot of it is very, very misplaced attempts at some form of protection...
Which I also really want to at some point make a post that's just...
"Tad's I'm Helping moments and how they made things worse for everyone"
But that's for later... For now...
I kind of want to grab a few things.
Tumblr media
"You're already dead, RUN!"
Tumblr media
I also actually counted how quickly he ran back to Mummy for this moment, and it's LITERALLY two seconds, from when Mummy collapses to Tadeo's check on him. Also I'd like to mention with this-- he's supposedly tunnel visioning on Sara(and he ruins it within the next scene pretty quickly)
...
And for all they're kind of dumb decisions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DEBATABLY-- when he's trying to hide Mummy.
"Hide"
Ugh-- BUT Tadeo has a very... complicated issue here really. Because yes-- Tad very much has that nonhuman issue, but he CARES. And then-- there's how the whole Ammut thing feels set and the symbolic meaning there(ALSO INTERESTING SARA SEEMINGLY ISN'T CAUGHT BY THAT). But here's the thing--
With Ammut kiiind of come those scales and the feather.
It's not like that mythology isn't unknown-- but more to the point-- it feels kind of like force Tad to confront his mixed up view. On Mummy's humanity or lack of-- But really as the audience Mummy feels the most human at this point in time-- whiiich we can get into a debate on what even is human nature later-- but--
I am kind of hoping that we get a callout of a number of things regarding Tad's behaviour.
With some primary focus on this dynamic between him and Mummy and really seeing how he responds to that idea that Mummy is nonhuman to really be thrown into full view and scope. And listen...
You cannot cheat the scales.
...
As an aside generally, if he is turning into a form or version of Ammut even if initially the community is a danger because he's a living mummy that creates a whole other issue of how he'd be viewed as a danger due to the role that's possibly growing more and more of an instinct.
But yeah... I will probably now make a more formulated rant on this later, or like, minor expansions on the topic but-- yeah.
I have been CHEWING on these thoughts, ideas and concepts for a while.
With additional tea. Because when people think they know something too often they refuse to see differently.
(Also at some point I am going to make a personal rant on duality verses binary due to insistent terminology issues I have but ugh)
