i took a lot of cold medicine so i can't be sure if i was awake or asleep when i was thinking about this: joel, your husband, is in the garage working on his car very hard, you poke your head in quite a few times and ask if he needs anything, to which he of course says, he's fine thanks, and he'll come in once he finishes getting this or that to work right. so, you go about your day, maybe sit outside and enjoy the nice spring weather in a sundress... and eventually you get hungry so you make yourself a sandwich and some homemade lemonade and you yell to joel that his is on the table but you're not waiting for him. eventually, he comes into the house all sweaty from working and he does that thing where he wipes his brow with the bottom of his shirt... and you pretend not to be paying that much attention, but when you lean down to put your own plate in the dishwasher, the bottom of your dress rides up, and joel sees it, the fact that you're not wearing any underwear under that very short dress. and though you're turned away from him, you can feel his eyes on you, and he's stopped eating, the room goes quiet, you can feel the tension in the air. then, his heavy footsteps, work boots on the hardwoods, walking towards you, and his large, calloused hands are on your waist before he says anything. he's close enough to see your reflection in the window - smiling because it's all working out like you intended it would. he doesn't say anything until his lips brush against your ear and you can feel his hot breath. "was almost done out there. would've given you a nice reward for being so patient." he cages you in, pressing you against the countertop. it makes you gasp, but you should've expected this. then, one of his knees shoves your legs apart and he pulls the tiny bit of your dress that hides your pussy, and sticks two of his fingers inside you as he says, "but i guess i have something i have to take care of in here first." he pretends to be exasperated by the idea, as if you're the only one who's needy, but you can feel how hard he is through his jeans. so needy that his hands only leave you to unbuckle his belt and he only gets his pants down to his knees before fucking you.

I love my job. I love working with young people and educating them and helping them have a positive relationship with maths, and a positive relationship with learning.

But also it often stresses me THE FUCK out. Because I will be explaining the importance of specific, constructive, and kind feedback - and a kid will say "oh yeah, last year we did a project and the teacher said it was pathetic and so I know how important kind feedback is because that made me really sad".

And I just have to nod and say "yup".

I have students telling me that previous teachers yelled at them and made fun of them for not understanding things, that previous teachers threatened to remove students from scholarships, and I just have to say "yeah that sounds awful". And if it's within the school, I can refer it to my head of department or the principal. And they say "yep this was sorted out". But that teacher still teaches at the school, and they seem to not be changing what they do.

And I just have to smile and show the students that I'm never going to tell (unless their safety is at risk), that I am always going to help them when they ask (but it may take me time), that I am there to help them learn.

And at the end of the year, they go off to another teacher, and they ask me whether it's a good teacher, and I smile and say that it's important to learn from a variety of people, because I can't say to a 13 year old that their new maths teacher tends to yell at their students.

How do I tell my senior students that last year's maths teacher failed to teach them a chunk of the curriculum, and now we just have to catch that up before the external exams later this year. (They know, they know they weren't taught. But we all just have to pretend. They joke that it's nice to have a teacher that knows what they are doing and is trying to help. I joke that it must have been miscommunication, and that I'm having a great time teaching senior maths. And their teacher from last year refuses to give me any information about what was taught, and I know it's because she pointed at the textbook and mocked them for not understanding.)

I love my job. I love working with young people, and showing them that learning can be fun.
