The IIFA Awards 2017 were no ordinary event.Set against the backdrop of the renowned MetLife Stadium in New York, the event was a dazzling spectacle that radiated glamour, and featured captivating show-stopping acts that forged a wealth of cherished memories. Yet, amidst all the lights and cheers, one moment stood out: when Akshay Kumar took the stage to speak about his journey and his inspiration.

Taking a trip down memory lane, Akshay Kumar shared a heartwarming story from his childhood that still holds a special place in his heart. He recalled an incident from the early 1980s when he was around 12 or 13 years old. During a family vacation to Kashmir, Akshay got the chance to witness Amitabh Bachchan shooting for a film from a distance. His excitement was palpable, and his father noticed it too. Encouraging his son, he said, “Go on, ask for his autograph!”

Young Akshay sprinted towards Mr. Bachchan, who was enjoying a bunch of grapes between takes. When Akshay approached and nervously asked for an autograph, his gaze couldn’t help but fixate on the juicy grapes instead. One of them accidentally fell to the ground, and as he bent down to pick it up, he realized Amitabh had noticed but gracefully pretended otherwise. With a smile, the megastar not only signed the autograph book but also handed Akshay a large bunch of grapes.

“Those grapes were a bit sour, but for a child like me, receiving them was no less than getting a box of chocolates,” Akshay shared with a chuckle. “Even though I ate them all, their essence — the memory of that gesture — has stayed with me ever since.”

Every gesture you made back then made a lasting impression on me. I never imagined I would join the film industry one day and find myself in a similar situation. While shooting for Keemat, I noticed a little boy being escorted out of the set, tears streaming down his face. Feeling a deep sense of déjà vu, I approached him, comforted him, and took a photo together. Little did I know that this boy would grow up to be none other than Ranveer Singh,” Akshay reminisced fondly.

This small yet significant encounter had a lasting impact on Akshay Kumar, serving as a cherished memory of his first interaction with the man who would go on to become his role model.

Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco from a lung-related issue, namely idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

The heartbreaking news of legendary tabla maestro Zakir Hussain’s death has sent shockwaves across the nation. Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman, and many others paid tribute to the tabla virtuoso, and expressed their grief. His death has left an irrepairable void in the world of music. Zakir Hussain made his last public appearance at singer Pankaj Udhas’ funeral in February this year. Pankaj Udhas passed away on February 26 in Mumbai after a prolonged illness.

Zakir Hussain had visited late Pankaj Udhas’ residence to pay his last respects to the ghazal maestro in February. He was seen arriving with his brother and musician Taufiq Qureshi. The tabla maestro also talked to the press back then and said, “The amount of happiness he has shared with his music, there is no answer for that. We love his family and Pankaj bhai immensely."

Meanwhile, Zakir Hussain’s death was confirmed by his family on Monday morning. He passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco from a lung-related issue, namely idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by his wife Antonia Minnecola, his daughters Anisa Qureshi and her family, Isabella Qureshi and her family, his brothers Taufiq and Fazal Qureshi, and his sister Khurshid Aulia. In the official statement on Zakir Hussain’s death on Monday, his family told Hindustan Times, “His prolific work as a teacher, mentor and educator has left an indelible mark on countless musicians. He hoped to inspire the next generation to go further. He leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as a cultural ambassador and one of the greatest musicians of all time. The family requests privacy at this time."

Born in 1951, Zakir Hussain was the eldest son of tabla player Alla Rakha. A four-time Grammy winner, Zakir Hussain’s contributions to music earned him numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri in 1988, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023. In February this year, Zakir Hussain became the first Indian musician to receive three Grammys at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

Multiplexes will offer tickets for Rs. 200, while urban single screens will charge Rs. 150, and district single screens will sell tickets at Rs. 110.

This strategy is also seen in the case of ‘Love Reddy’, which is being released this week at a mere Rs. 50 for premiere shows in Hyderabad.

While reducing ticket rates is a common tactic to attract audiences, the recent failure of a film offered for Rs. 99 underscores the importance of audience interest. The makers of ‘Vettaiyan’ hope to capitalize on the lack of new releases and generate buzz in Hyderabad and other Nizam markets until Diwali. It is not laughable that they entertain such hopes, considering the movie is known to the audience. In the case of small movies like ‘Love Reddy’, no amount of rate reduction helps.

As the industry continues to grapple with understanding consumer behavior, producers, distributors, and exhibitors are closely watching the impact of pricing strategies on ticket sales.
