Kanguva, Pushpa 2 to face opposition in Karnataka?-Telugu Funda

The Kannada film industry and the Sandalwood media are apparently upset that some of the big-ticket pan-Indian movies from Sandalwood have not tasted even a decent release in other States, especially the Telugu States and Tamil Nadu.

Actor Suriya was in Bengaluru on Monday to promote Kanguva. On the occasion, a film journalist there asked if, say, a Shivarajkumar movie were to be released in Tamil Nadu, would Suriya ensure that it gets a big release. "Your movie, Kanguva, will be released on 300 screens in Karnataka," the journo said. The tone of the questioning says it all. Kannadigas want their films to find a big release in other States because they are embracing non-Kannada movies on a big scale.

There are murmurs that Pushpa: The Rule will receive at least a minor backlash from a section of the Sandalwood media and the Kannada film industry because the Diwali release, Bagheera, was given a raw deal in the Telugu States.

Kanguva will arrive at the cinemas on November 14th. Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 will arrive at the cinemas on December 5th.

‘Janaka Aithe Ganaka', starring Suhas in the lead, is going to stream on Aha Video from November 8th. The film also stars Goparaju Ramana, Sangeerthana Vipin, Vennela Kishore and others.

"Prepare yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions and non-stop entertainment (sic)," the OTT platform said.

What is the film about? Prasad (Suhas) is an atypical middle-class person who is not excited about seeing his DNA walk in front of his eyes. He can do without kids. By a quirk of fate, Pasad’s wife gets pregnant. The culprit is a contraceptive gone rogue. The leaky condom maker must now face a legal challenge from Prasad.

Is the movie worth a watch? Yes, if you want to have some mindless fun for two hours. No, if you are looking for a meaningful, strong comedy. ‘Janaka Aithe Ganaka’ is a silly courtroom film that offers a few laughs and plenty of frustration. If you think mere mention of the word ‘condom’ stimulates horniness in men, this juvenile film is for you.

'Lucky Baskhar' Trailer: Family emotions, cold calculations - Telugu Funda

The trailer of 'Lucky Baskhar' is out. Speaking on the occasion of its launch, actor Dulquer Salmaan said that the film is a fun ride as well as an emotional drama. "There is a beautiful family angle. You will all enjoy the music and other elements. This is the longest I have waited to make a comeback on the screen. It has been 14 months," the Mollywood superstar said.

Producer S Naga Vamsi said that every single frame in the movie is refreshing. "The banking system and stock markets have been used as a backdrop to tell an emotional story," he added. Meenakshi Chaudhary's presence is prominent in the Trailer.

DQ made an interesting comment on the occasion. "There is a Baskhar in 80% of the country's population," the 'Sita Ramam' actor said.

Directed by Venky Atluri, the film has music by GV Prakash Kumar. Cinematography is by Nimish Ravi. Editing is by Navin Nooli.

Releasing on October 31st in Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada, the film also features Sachin Khedekar, Sai Kumar and Manasa Chaudhary.

The news of Adar Poonawala buying more than 50 percent stakes in Dharma Productions has taken the Indian Entertainment industry by surprise. The rumours had it that music label Saregama was about to procure the stakes in Dharma Productions. However, Adar Poonawala’s Serene Entertainment has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Dharma Productions for Rs 1,000 crore,

The Raja Saab’: Prabhas is super-cool in latest poster

The Raja Saab’ is set to arrive at the cinemas on April 10th, 2025. Touted by People Media Factory as a romantic horror comedy, the film is directed by Maruthi.

A new poster in which Prabhas is seen in a relaxed demeanour is out. “Cool composure with a presence that dominates. The King of Swag is here to bring you an MASSIVE treat with his UNMATCHED AURA,” the makers wrote.

Nidhhi Agerwal and Malavika Mohanan are associated with ‘The Raja Saab’.

Budget-friendly ticket rates: Are audiences taking note?

Starting October 18th, ‘Vettaiyan’, starring Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, and Amitabh Bachchan, will be available in Telangana at reduced ticket prices. Multiplexes will offer tickets for Rs. 200, while urban single screens will charge Rs. 150, and district single screens will sell tickets at Rs. 110.

This strategy is also seen in the case of ‘Love Reddy’, which is being released this week at a mere Rs. 50 for premiere shows in Hyderabad.

While reducing ticket rates is a common tactic to attract audiences, the recent failure of a film offered for Rs. 99 underscores the importance of audience interest. The makers of ‘Vettaiyan’ hope to capitalize on the lack of new releases and generate buzz in Hyderabad and other Nizam markets until Diwali. It is not laughable that they entertain such hopes, considering the movie is known to the audience. In the case of small movies like ‘Love Reddy’, no amount of rate reduction helps.

As the industry continues to grapple with understanding consumer behavior, producers, distributors, and exhibitors are closely watching the impact of pricing strategies on ticket sales.

Vettaiyan’ prequel talk is proof Kollywood is boring

In general, Tamil films have become duller and more boring this decade. The best phase was the 2000s, with Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Selvaraghavan and many new-age directors making super-interesting films. The fine form of Tamil music directors was a great blessing back then. The creative deterioration Kollywood has seen since 2010 or so is something else.

The epitome of how boring and foolish the Tamil industry has become can be gauged from the talk that the Kollywood media is going gaga over the talk of a prequel to ‘Vettaiyan’, easily among the most boring Rajinikanth films. Also, its collections started dwindling to shocking levels right from Day 4. Dasara holidays alone saved the film from becoming a total washout.

Prequels and sequels are supposed to be made for event films and new-age action thrillers like ‘Vikram’. It makes sense if there is a Lokesh Cinematic Universe. It makes sense that ‘Kanguva 2’ is being talked about. But it doesn’t make sense that someone wants to tell the origin story of an encounter specialist.

Already, there is talk of ‘Indian 3’ skipping a theatrical release. If Kollywood continues with its weird understanding of the idea of sequels/prequels, more and more films will end up devastating the box office.

Pawan Kalyan’s movie titles continue to slip away

Pawan Kalyan’s movie titles are being used increasingly, one after another. The latest one to be exhausted is ‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’, starring Pradeep Machiraju in the lead.

Earlier, ‘Tholi Prema’ was used for a Varun Tej movie. ‘Kushi’ was used for a Vijay Deverakonda-Samantha Ruth Prabhu movie

Nithiin’s upcoming movie is titled ‘Thammudu’. The film is directed by Venu Sriram and is produced by Dil Raju.

Power Star’s fans would have been happy had the titles been used for unique projects. ‘Kushi’ had disastrous content. Pradeep Machiraju’s movie is not anybody’s favourite. ‘Thammudu’, one hopes, turns out to be a meaningful film worth its title.

There is a joke among Pawan Kalyan’s fans that Akira Nandan will have to make do with titles like ‘Agnyaathavaasi’ and ‘Bangaram’ at this rate. Some of them hope that titles like ‘OG’ don’t slip from his hands.

Revolver Rita’ Title Teaser: Keerthy Suresh’s dark comedy

Revolver Rita is the title of actress Keerthy Suresh’s upcoming Tamil-language dark comedy. Directed by JK Chandru, the film could be dubbed into Telugu.

The title teaser shows a bunch of clownish criminals targeting an unsuspecting Keerthy Suresh in a bustling market. They find a bag full of weapons in her purse. To their surprise, she enters their hideout in style. Who is Rita? Why is she carrying weapons and a grenade in her vanity bag?

Also featuring Radikaa Sarathkumar, Redin Kingsley, Super Subbarayan, and John Vijay, the film also casts two Telugu actors: Sunil and Ajay Ghosh.

Produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy, its music is by Sean Roldan. Dinesh Krishnan B is the cinematographer, while Praveen KL is the Editor. Art Direction is by MKT, while Dhilip Subbarayan has composed the stunts.

‘Siren’ and ‘Raghu Thatha’ are among Keerthy Suresh’s recent movies. ‘Kannivedi’ and ‘Baby John’ will also come out soon. ‘Baby John’, the Hindi film, will arrive at the cinemas on December 25th this year.

Pradeep Machiraju’s new film is titled ‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’

‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’ is the title of Pradeep Machiraju’s second feature film. His debut movie, titled ’30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela’, was released in 2021.

The latest film is directed by Nitin and Bharath, with Deepika Pilli starring opposite the popular TV anchor. Incidentally, the title owes itself to the name of Pawan Kalyan’s acting debut.

Touted to be a rural love story with a pleasant, breezy done, the film’s premise has been revealed. “A civil engineer enters a village for work and falls in love with a spirited village girl. What follows next is an entertaining love story between the two with a series of laugh-out-loud moments, unexpected twists, and a surprising romance that neither saw coming,” the makers said.

Vennela Kishore and Satya, both of whom were seen in the recent hit ‘Mathu Vadalara 2’, will be essaying pivotal roles. Getup Srinu is also part of the cast.

With music by Radhan and cinematography by MN Balreddy, the film also features Muralidhar Goud, G M Sundar, John Vijay, Rohini, and Jhansi. andeep Bolla is penning the story and dialogues. Sekhar VJ, Viswa Raghu, Yash, and Ram are the dance choreographers.

Sharwanand’s film to be a blood-fest

Recently, a film in the combination of actor Sharwanand and director Sampath Nandi was announced. The film is apparently going to be a high-voltage violent one.

As per the makers, a huge set spreading over 15 acres has been erected in Hyderabad for the upcoming schedule. Art Director Kiran Kumar Manne designed the set. The story of the film takes place in a village bordering Telangana and Maharashtra. And the entire story unfolds in the 1960s.

To be released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, this one has music by Bheems Ceciroleo of ‘Balagam’ and ‘Dhamaka’ fame.

Bankrolled by KK Radha Mohan of Sri Sathya Sai Arts, the untitled film is touted to be a blood-fest of sorts. The film will also explore the “unexplored times of history”. The ‘Shatamanam Bhavati’ actor is doing an action drama of this sort for the first time. A threat factor is that Sampath Nandi is well past his time. So, this one will be either another ‘Maha Samudram’, or, by stroke of luck, a surprise hit.

Sharwanand’s recent theatrical release is ‘Manamey’, directed by Sriram Adittya. Krithi Shetty was its heroine.

Jersey’ director Gowtam Tinnanuri gears up for ‘Magic

‘Magic’ is an unknown film that has long completed its shoot. More than a year after it completed its production, the youthful fun-filled comedy-drama has finally found its release slot.

The musical romance, directed by ‘Jersey’ fame Gowtam Tinnanuri, will arrive at the cinemas on December 21st this year.

If Naga Chaitanya-Sai Pallavi’s ‘Thandel’ gets a wide release, ‘Magic’ might be postponed. If ‘Thandel’ gets postponed to Sankranthi 2025, ‘Magic’ will be released in theatres for sure ahead of Christmas.

‘Magic’ has music by Anirudh Ravichander. If the songs, to be released in October and November become a hit, the film will gain pre-release hype. For a musical drama, the songs are the USP.

Produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, ‘Magic’ will be preceded by Gowtam Tinnanuri’s ultimate test – Vijay Deverakonda’s 12th film, to be released in the first half of 2025 (most probably). The filmmaker’s Hindi remake of ‘Jersey’ was a flop. ‘Magic’ and VD12 are his only confirmed upcoming films.

Buzz! Chiranjeevi banks on VV Vinayak to save ‘Vishwambhara’

The recently-released Teaser of ‘Vishwambhara’ has been a failure on many fronts. Trollers are the only ones who are happy with it – because they have had a gala time taunting it, deriding it, and insulting it.

The film was supposed to be released for Sankranthi 2025. Dil Raju claimed that his request to Chiranjeevi and UV Creations pushed it to Summer 2025. Because Dil Raju wants ‘Game Changer’ to be released on Vishwambhara’s date (January 10, 2025).

Whatever it is, the speculation in the town is that it was not Dil Raju’s request that resulted in the postponement of ‘Vishwambhara’. Rather, it was the poor VFX that altered the initial plan. Chiranjeevi is said to have requested director VV Vinayak, his ‘Tagore’ and ‘Khaidi No. 150’ maker, to supervise a revision of the VFX work by coordinating with the VFX team and director Vassisht Mallidi.

Chota K Naidu’s cinematography has also been criticized.

‘Vishwambhara’ shouldn’t become another ‘Adipurush’. It is a socio-fantasy and its story needs to be reinforced by a grand VFX.
