MAX Review: Kichcha Sudeep Shoulders High Octane Action Thriller- Telugu Funda
After a series of unimpressive movies, KIchcha Sudeep delivers a strong mass masala action thriller
Inspector Arjun Mahakshay goes with the name Max– the name no one barely calls him but recognised by only one of the many villains. Max comes with the track record of multiple suspensions and transfers due to his unabashed sincerely. The typical honest police officer role. However, MAX is not about Arjun. MAX is a one-night crime cover up thriller; an escaping drama from two powerful ministers and their men after the death of the minister’s son in the police station.
Writing strong villain characters and making the hero overcome the obstacles and dangers set by the villains is a perfect template for a mass masala action thriller that doesn’t treat its characters as just tools to elevate the heroism of the hero. But, MAX does use all the characters as tools for the sake of the hero. Sunil playing the gangster Guna is the main villain, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar as an insider cop working for Guna gets an interesting entry into the story with the hyped heftiness of a fox-like cunning cop. But, that doesn’t hold for long. We are made to believe that the villains are too powerful only through the shivering fears expressed by incompetent police officers. Vijay Kartikeyaa should have taken a bit more care to craft the intelligence of the characters rather than just telling the audience to believe that the politicians and gangsters are really powerful and dangerous.
MAX is not a flawless movie. It has its flaws, far too many from the standpoint of characterization. However, MAX works well because of Kichcha Sudeep’s heroic screen presence as an all-powerful big-brain strategic cop who never loses his cool unless he is talking on a phone call. The Lokesh Kangaraj’s Khaidi like plot-line of one-night actioner and goons of powerful men covering up the entire isolated police station gives MAX an immediate sense of tense urgency that keeps the audience hooked for the next moves. And, the positioning of the police station– designed by Shiva Kumar– in an isolated place is also a bit less convincing but it had to be that way for the plot to progress as Karthikeyaa had written it.
The heroic swagger of Kichcha Sudeep fired up by the background score of Kantara-fame Ajaneesh Loknath saves this underwritten escape thriller that engages you throughout the film.
TF Rating: 3/5

nothing more cringe than coaxing and half-forcing someone to go to the movies with you because you're talking up how good the last one in the series was and then they finally agree to go and then it ends up being over two hours long and also kinda the worst 😬
#this is about the latest mad max movie btw#IM SO UPSET I WANTED IT TO BE GOOD BUT IT WASNT GOOD#fury road is just one of my fave movies ever and i assumed this one would also be fun but it was like#weirdly paced kind of oddly boring and also uncomfortably gratuitously violent#and now i feel crazy because everyone is raving about it in the reviews#im like am i the only one who didn't like it??#chris hemsworth makes a shitty villain and also they didnt really give him anything of substance to work with as a character here#anya taylor joy did well but also took forever to appear and is either mute most of the time or awkwardly dubbed over by charlize theron#the fights and actions scenes didnt make a lot of sense much of the time and had random plot holes abounding#and half the cool and mysterious worldbuilding and character stuff from the previous movie were kinda wrecked a bit for me somehow#at least we still have fury road but dang thats like a 5 star movie to me and this was like a 2.5 star movie#and the good stuff in it is just stuff thats good about the mad max world in general really not this movie itself#wahhhhhh im sad#at least i paid for everyone's tickets i guess#i was like apologizing to the people i dragged to it haha#and then i checked the critics' responses and everyone is like 5 stars!! a masterpiece!!#im so confused by all the rave reviews#furiosa spoilers#movies#p

I FINALLY WATCHED DUNE!!!
Short summary of the plot
Dune is a sci-fi movie, based on the games and novels of the same name set on a planet called Arrakis. Arrakis is home to the Fremen, an important source of a commodity called spice. Leto is aware that the Emperor plans to denounce the House Atreides and hand back control of Arrakis to House Harkonen. Paul Atreides is the main protagonist of the movie.
Religious reference I caught
Dune is a deeply philosophical story exploring war, politics, imperialism and religion. Some of them include "jihad", a Holy warrior in Islam, or " Mahdi" who is the Islamic messiah. Another religious material is the Orange Catholic Bible, which blends Christian, Gnostic, Buddhist, and Islamic ideas. It makes a lot of sense to me since the Latin word "catholicus" means universal.
Edit: I've never played the games nor read the novels, so this is a good introduction for me.
Comment about your thoughts on this post in the reply section, and be sure to like, reblog, share, or boost.

Letterboxd : My Four Favorites
I am a fan of Letterboxd's Four Favorites and these are my top favorite movies of all the time. These four actually showed how some movies with a simple plot can be fun to watch.
Cinema Paradiso: An Italian movie that talks about a young boy's love towards movies. This movie showed me how a small act of kindness would change a child's perspective about life.
Everything Everywhere All At Once: It's the movie for the eldest daughters with generational trauma.
The Nice Guys: I was never a fan of American Comedy. Although this movie changed my mind and the comedic timing of Ryan Gosling felt so natural. I could watch this over hundred times and I will still laugh at the scene where they drop a RDJ's dead body to a wedding dinner table.
Whisper of the heart: I saw myself in Shizuku who travelled between the worlds of reality and fantasy. Plus, the cat was a whole mood.

You know what? Fuck it. Four Rooms is fun as hell, yes, even the first two parts that aren't written and directed by two great directors people are afraid to criticise. I don't care what the critics say, I had a lot of fun watching it.
#four rooms#it's because I am always on the side of the critis somehow I mean#that's what I want to for a job being a cinema critic#and I usually have no problem having different opinions on movie from the majority of people#but in cases like this I am just...I don't know I feel genuinely like I am on a whole another wavelength#I have read multiple people on letterbox calling it an anticomedy#I won't even assess how it feels they all took inspiration from the same review but okay#but the point is no the movie is literally not that bad and you know why I can say that?#Because I don't think someone could look at me in the eye and tell four rooms is worse than the latest Netflix raunchy comedy#or some of the worst Adam Sandler production#it's literally not you don't need to be dramatic nobody is saying it's a masterpiece but god the snobbery#tim roth delivers and you can fight me to death on that#Also Madonna won a prize for worst actress??? If she had 7 lines jn the whole movie it was a lot#And I agree that the first segment is probably the weakest one and the Rodriguez segment is maybe the best one#But I do feel like a lot of people are just afraid to say anything bad on Tarantino and Rodriguez so they're just going#'the movie is shit but they were goos obviously!'#Four rooms is not perfect by all means and I do think it could have given a lot more but fuck it was alright it was fun#I hadn't had good laugh in a while#and Tim Roth again is hysterical#I am sorry for the pented up frustration#I don't want all people to liked this movie I just wished it wasn't one of those movies it's cool to snob

"The setting in which a viewing takes place can have a major impact on a spectator’s response to a film — I know this from my own experience, but also from talking to anyone who has ever watched a film. For me, there is a perfect setting for watching a film: I am in a spacious but not enormous cinema screen, which is quiet but not completely empty, on a Sunday afternoon; I’m either on my own or with my partner; I’ve just drunk a glass of red wine and an espresso. It’s extremely rare that I get to watch films in this situation: more often than not (especially so during the height of the pandemic) I watch them on a TV in my living room, or on my laptop while wearing headphones. If I watch Mission: Impossible — Fallout with my friends, and we’re drinking some wine while we watch it, and everyone is making jokes and yelling throughout, that’s a very different experience to watching it on a small screen on the back of a chair on an intercontinental flight. If I watch Jeanne Dielman at home after a day at work, I’ll likely spend a lot of the film resisting — or failing to resist — the urge to look at my phone and stop paying attention to the film; if I watch it in a cinema, at a weekend matinee screening, just after drinking a coffee, then I’m more likely be fully engrossed and absorbed in it.
I was writing a diary, and I was interested in the role that diaries can play in the critique of everyday life, providing as they do a space for reflection, for non-productive venting, for digression, rumination, distraction, without the need to make the links between thoughts explicit. The writing that resulted was a strange mixture of public and private, open and closed — I felt comfortable offering my readers a glimpse of my life, but always felt a need to keep something back. [...] Some people told me they read the diary to get recommendations of what films to watch, but more people told me they read it for the slightly grubby feeling of reading someone else’s journal — for the insight into the mundanity and frustration of my everyday life."
#ppp#reading#posts just 4 me :)#sean brought this up in smth i was listening to recently; interesting proj! difficult to read given the wall lol#saving this bit more bc i like how they write abt writing about film#& idk.. it intersected in an interesting way 4 me w a little offhand bit in the latest twioat#w guy saying that hed 'finally seen the movie that [JM] was talking about' wrt a specific watch#idk like. i think the context-first method of film review/crit is just appealing/interesting 2 me on some lvl#2023movies#lb#i wanna make stuff rly rly badly atm lol

#0 L.A. Without a Map (1998)
⭐⭐
A British writer pursues a young actress to Hollywood and needs all the help he can get to win her love. - Summary from IMDB
The good:
Holy Young Tennant Batman!!
Moss is a literal king, best character in the movie.
Their bromance was the 2nd best relationship in it.
Barbara is a girl's girl fr (ref the scene in the parking lot at the club thing).
Richard being truly terrible at fighting.
All the Johnny Depp hallucinations.
Barbara talking to her dead dad. Awww they both have imaginary friends.
Julie x Moss is the 1st best relationship
The bad:
Oh boy second hand embarrassment.
The plot was, um, interesting ig. Idk it was kind of lacking but that could just be me.
Richard sucking at fighting goes here too cause it was too embarrassing to watch sometimes.
So many bad vibes from like everything
This series of stuff I wrote in my notes "Jealousy is not a good look for him. Oh god he's going insane. God why is he such an asshole. I was worried about her but he's the problem. He's kind of sucking actually."
Where are the likable characters.
I had to stop a few times
Random:
The voiceover is kinda silly but I like hearing his voice
Did they really get Johnny Depp for this movie??
He's so charismatic and also such a loser
Moss stays winning
THEY DID GET JOHNNY DEPP
God his hair is stupid (1:32:00 ish)
Overall rating is a ★★★. I would have given it two stars but it had enough redeeming qualities that that felt too harsh. To be honest I didn't enjoy the movie. The ending was unsatisfactory and I didn't even really want them together at that point. It becomes pretty hard to root for Richard about an hour in as he devolves into madness. Ik they sort of covered that but I didn't care enough about his character for it to be interesting. That being said it was very funny and the acting is good at least to my untrained eye. The soundtrack was pretty decent too. And of course the best part is that you get to stare at David Tennant for almost two hours.
Edit: No actually you know what after thinking about it for a day this was a fucking terrible movie. I think my detachment and utter lack of investment in the plot and characters blinded me to how awful it was. Richard and Barbara's relationship is supposed to be the main plot point except it's so dull that I didn't care about it at all. I couldn't even care enough to root against it. Richard is an asshole that you don't want to succeed but Barbara isn't likable enough either. AND THEN, when you think that maybe he might be facing some minor consequences for his repeatedly terrible behaviour SHE GOES BACK TO HIM. Who's wish fulfillment self insert is this. The only redeeming qualities are that it is consistently very funny and Moss is a king.
#i don't think i can properly emphasize how hot he is in this movie#I was gonna do this in order from his earliest to his latest#but i didn't think of that till after watching this#I'll do that moving forwards#david tennant#L.A. Without a Map#movie review

Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani: Movie Review
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Rating : 4.0/5
On face-value, ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI may come across as yet another prem kahaani from Dharma. After all, KJo has a penchant for love stories, which is evident in his choice of films as a storyteller. However, ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI packs a lot more than Rocky and Rani’s romance in those [approx] 2.49 hours.
Now to the pertinent question: Does KJo get it right? Oh yes, he does. ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI wins Round 1 by casting the right names for the pivotal characters, namely Rocky [Ranveer Singh], Rani [Alia Bhatt] and the three stalwarts [Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi]. Having said that, the real triumph lies in its storytelling, which surprises you at several points.
ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI bears the stamp of an accomplished storyteller, with KJo avoiding the tried-and-tested rom-com template to move things. For instance, the integration of timeless tracks in the narrative is so refreshingly hatke. Also, the dramatic twist before ‘Dhindhora Baje Re’ and the heated argument that follows is brilliant.
The writing [Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, Sumit Roy] doesn’t fall prey to mediocrity at any stage. It encompasses drama, emotions and romance seamlessly. Would like to make a special mention of the dialogues [Ishita Moitra], which garnishes the sequences beautifully. DoP Manush Nandan creates some stunning frames and does complete justice to the scale.
On the whole, ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is a well-packaged entertainer that has ample merits to strike a chord with the youth as well as families. At the box-office, it has the potential to emerge a success story.

Am I stupid?
'Cause the internet really wants to make me feel stupid whenever I enjoy a movie. I look to see what other people think of it and I'm bombarded by reviews such as:
"..." IS TRASH!
"..." IS DREADFUL!
"..." DESTROYED BY CRITICS!
"..." IS A TRAINWRECK!
"..." IS GARBAGE!
I hate it 😒. It actually makes me feel like I'm an idiot. It makes me question my ability to enjoy something... 😔
To simply enjoy a movie has become mission impossible. Where does all this negativity come from?! You have every right to not like it, and every right to criticize the studio's decisions, but chill out! It's just a movie!
I never really understood people, but they're getting worse lately.
#a movie has the right to be just okay#listen i know disney remakes aren't the best movies on earth#but i still do enjoy some of them!#let me enjoy them for fuck's sake!!!!#yes i'm talking about latest peter pan#the more likes i give to the clips the more awful reviews come up#it's like everyone wants to convince me it's an awful movie#but it's not! I really like it! T.T#movie reviews#people need to calm down#disney#disney remakes#help me#rant

Baby John Box Office Day 15: Varun Dhawan starrer records a new low with only Rs 20 lakh earnings on its second Wednesday, while 'Pushpa 2' continues to dominate.
When Varun Dhawan made his entry into the world of Bollywood with ‘Student Of The Year,’ everyone knew he had the potential to carve a niche with his work. Soon after with movies like ‘Badlapur’ and ‘October’ he made the audience see a different side of him. He did a lot of comedy films, in which some worked and some did, but then he did ‘Bedhiya’ which kept the cash registers ringing at the box…
