The Winter Solider, the man who killed your parents, the man whose life you wish to take even if doing so made you a killer.
The man who's living in your house and chatting with your friend, Natasha.
"If you keep glaring at him like that you'll burn holes in his head." Tony says as he sits next to you on the couch.
"I hope I do." You say as you sip your coffee, you hear your twin sigh.
"Listen, Y/N, I like having him here as much as you do and I know how much you hate him, hell, I hate him the same." Tony takes a deep breath, "But he was being brainwashed when he did what he did, you know that."
You look down. You know that it wasn't Bucky who killed your parents, you know that the man responsible for that is the Winter Soldier but Bucky is the Winter Soldier. How can everyone be so calm about it? Anyone could walk in the room at any moment, say a few Russian words and the man now holding a book in his right hand will use it to smash someone's head.
"I know." Is the only thing you say before standing up and walking out of the room, past Natasha and Bucky who are talking in Russian.
"Y/N" Natasha calls you and you turn around. "Will you be one of us for tonight's movie night?"
The Avengers' movie nights, where everyone sat in the cinema room to watch movies, if you remember correctly it would be Wanda's turn to choose them tonight, you and her always had similar taste in movies so it would be an enjoyable night with your dearest friends.
You were going to say yes, but then your eyes met Bucky's and it reminded you that he'd be there too.
You can barely stay in the same room as him during training or meals, the times where you're forces to share your space with him, but when you can choose to stay away from him, that's exactly what you do.
"No, I think I'll go to sleep early." Bucky looks down at your words, he knows that he's the reason you're isolating yourself more and more everyday, but there isn't much he can do.
He already apologized to Tony and you, he's even seeing a therapist now (that was Tony's condition to make him stay at the compound), he feels himself getting better and better everyday.
Especially knowing that Tony is searching for a way to erase completely the brainwashing from his mind, so that there'll be no way to turn him back in the Winter Soldier.
He looks at you as you walk away, knowing that there's nothing he can do to make you stop hating him when even he hates himself.
────୨ৎ────
You sit against a tree outside the compound, sipping a beer while deep in thought, but you still hear the faint footsteps approaching you from behind.
You recognize them immediately, since you have spent the last months avoiding them.
"Why are you here?" You ask harshly as you finish your beer.
"Wanda is making us watch Kate & Leopold for the fourth time, I couldn't take it anymore." He chuckles, standing next to your sitting form.
"She made me watch Australia ten times at least, but can't really blame her." You say with a small smile. Usually you would've already walked away from Bucky but the five beers you have already drank altered your mind.
"For the actor that starred in them?" You nod at his words.
"She's already excited for his new movie next year, Great Showman or something like that." You shrug your shoulders, trying to take another sip of beer but the bottle is empty.
"Here." He hands you an opened beer bottle and only then you notice that he has two in his hands.
Did he bring one for you only?
"You didn't poison this, did you?" You try to ignore the pain that flashes in his eyes at your words.
"I would never do that." He says, sitting down next to you, "Listen, I already apologized to you and Tony, what else do you want me to do?!" His voice is calm and this makes you even angrier at him.
You have been holding back your feelings for him for way too longs and the fact that you're also drunk makes you finally snap.
"To fucking die!" You yell at him, the bottle in your hand slips and hits the grass, shattering in tiny sharp pieces.
You don't even realize that there are tears coming out of your cheeks, running along your cheeks and then fall off your chin.
"Then kill me!" He takes a gun from the inside pocket of his jacket and puts it on your hands, your fingers immediately adapting to the familiar weight and your index finds its place on the trigger.
Bucky brings your armed hand against his chest and presses the gun against his body, "Kill me, because I swear to God, there's no one who wants me dead as much as I do."
Your eyes widen and suddenly you see the pain in his eyes, in his voice, in him.
"Do a favor to everyone on this fucking planet and kill me, please." His voice cracks at the last word and you see unshed tears in his eyes.
You have never thought about it like this, you were too focused on your own pain that you didn't even think that, maybe, he was in pain too.
Having to live with the memory of every person who he has killed, does he see blood on his hands everytime he looks at them?
"I...I..." Your eyes move quickly from his face to the gun in your hand, against his chest, right over his heart.
The heart you thought he didn't have, but now you understand that he does have a heart, a heart so fragile that it could break any moment if handled too roughly.
James Barnes does have a heart, one covered in scars and bandages and you don't want to be the one to add the final scar, the one that would shatter his injured heart completely.
The moon rays hit his blue eyes, making them almost magical.
"I know I don't deserve to live, I already tell myself that every night." A single tear runs down his beautiful left eye.
"T-That's not what I..." You stutter as you look at the broken man in front of you, how did you not realize it sooner?
Bucky hates himself for being the Winter Soldier as much as you do, if not more.
"I can't do it." You say as you stand up and drop the gun to the ground next to him.
"Isn't this what you've always wanted?" He says as he looks up at you, his eyes, big and glossy, remind you of a lost puppy that just wants to be comforted.
"I may have been wrong all this time." You look down at him, then glance at the gun by his side, "Don't do anything stupid with that, Steve would be sad." It's the excuse you give both him and yourself before walking inside the compound.
Once inside you turn around and see him hitting the tree with his right hand, you are too far away to understand what he's saying but he looks like he's crying.
"What happened to Barnes?" Tony's voice asks you from behind, you turn around and see him coming out of the cinema room, behind him you can see end credits rolling on the big screen.
"I don't know." You simply say before walking towards your room on the second floor.
────୨ৎ────
"What?! Have you gone mad?!" You look shocked at Steve and Tony, surprised that a plan as stupid as that came out of the two of them.
"You have to look past your personal problems, Y/N." Steve scolds you with a frown and if there is one thing that Captain America is good at, is making people feel guilty.
Like that one time you accidentally ate one of his yogurts and he looked so disappointed that you bought him twenty of them as an apology.
"This would be a great way to gain intel of this criminal organization who is selling weapons." Tony says, leaning back against his chair.
"And you think that sending me undercover with Bucky to a masked party in downtown Manhattan will help us?" You scoff at his words, crossing your arms over your chest.
You glance at Bucky, he has been silent during all the length of the meeting.
"We are sending you two because you are the only people who we trust enough to do it and because you have the last chances of being recognized." Steve explains, calmly as always, "People don't know Bucky's face, they may know yours, but we have masks that can make people see your features in other ways."
"With my technology we could make people see him bald." Tony points at Bucky, he looks up and touches his hair.
"I like my hair." He simply says, glancing awkwardly at you. Things between you two have been even more awkward than before after what happened under the tree two weeks ago.
"Fine, I'll do it." You scoff and stand up, Tony claps his hands together.
"Great, you already have a stunning dress waiting for you in your room, the party is in three hours." Your brother says.
"Three hours?!" You and Bucky say at the same time, you could get physically ready quickly but you needed your time getting mentally ready to spend a whole evening with Bucky glued to your hip.
"Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Jones." Tony says, handing you and Bucky an invite each.
"How did you get these?" Bucky asks.
"They're fake, obviously, but anyone who will look at them won't understand it because I did it." He says, showing off his ego.
Two hours and half later, you're walking outside the compound in a shiny designer black dress, already wearing Tony's mask which makes you completely unrecognizable to everyone else but Bucky apparently.
“You look…beautiful.” Bucky says as he looks at you, he too is wearing a designer black suit and it looks ridiculously good on him.
“Thank you…” You give him a small smile, “You don’t look too bad either.”
He smiles and looks down at himself, "Shall we go?", he hopes the car door for you and closes it once you're sat inside.
"So our cover is this: we've been married for five years and are secretly the owners of a large weapon-making industry, which is so secret no one has ever heard of it." You repeat to Bucky as he starts the car, drivinig out of the compound's garage.
"That's what they told us, yes." He nods.
"But we need more backstory if we want to do it correctly." You sigh, why didn't Tony write a full script for you two? He usually prefers to have every single backstory detail already organized in case of emergency, "Let's say…We met when we were twenty, it was love at first sight and…Oh yes! Our families didn't approve of us so we got separated and then we ran away five years ago and we got married!"
Bucky glances at you briefly before turning his eyes back on the road, "Are you sure we need all these details? I don't think anyone will ask us this type of things."
"Bucky, this is a party in downtown Manhattan, I have been invited to those kinda party before…" You look at him in disbelief, "Can you even imagine how noesy the people that attend those parties are? They live for drama, and they want every single detail."
"So you too?" He grins, "you too are noesy since you attend those parties."
"Oh, I'm the noesiest of them all, that's why I'm tellying you that we need to be really good with our acting." You turn your eyes on the road too, suddenly realizying that you called him Bucky earlier and not by his last name like you usually do, "So we need to act like we're deeply in love."
"That won't be hard." He smiles, "I've always been a great actor."
"Why don't I have trouble believing that?" You chuckle, leaning against your seat more relaxed, looking out the car window.
────୨ৎ────
"Oh you two are so cute." An old woman says as she looks at me and Bucky: his arm is wrapped around your waist while the other hold a glass of champagne, there's a mask similar to the one you are wearing on his face.
"Thank you, ma'am." You reply politely, it only takes you one glance at her to understand that she's the one hosting the party and so is the most powerful person in the room, for the moment at least. "Your dress is gorgeous."
"Oh dear, I see you have extraordinary taste…" She glances at Bucky, "But I should've understood that just by looking at your husband."
"He is handsome isn't he?" You smile, glancing at Bucky, you don't know what Tony's mask is making her see but with the mask or not, Bucky is indeed one of the most handsome man you've ever laid eyes on.
"Oh but I think my wife here is ten times more beautiful than me." Bucky gives you hip a playful squeeze, kissing your cheek.
"I see that you are still in the honeymoon phase." The woman chuckles. "How long have you been married?"
"It'll soon be our fifth anniversary." You smile at her, taking a sip of your champagne.
"Adorable, and what does your work consist of?" She asks, arching a brow. There are more than one hundred people at the party, it doesn't surprise you that she doesn't remember all of them and thanks to this she can't really remember if she really invited you or not.
"We produce weapons." Bucky explains, "We're new to the industry, so we were really happy when we received your invitation, it isn't every day that you receive an invitation by Miss Lond." You smile at his words, he understood one of the basic rules of parties: always flatter the host.
Miss Long chuckles, hiding the lower part of her face that isn't hiding behind the mask behind her fan, "Please follow me, I'll introduce you to some of my dearest friends."
During the rest of the night the microphone you're wearing gathers all the information for you and the party is going smoothly...Too smooth.
"I have a strange feeling." Bucky says as you two stand on the side of the dance floor.
"Yeah, me too, this mission is going too smoothly." Your attention is taken by the noise of a microphone being turned on and then you see Miss Lond walk on the small stage at the center of the room.
"My dear guests, I'm really glad you could make it here, I hope you are enjoying the party." The woman starts, "I hope to make it more interesting by starting a treasure hunt."
Murmurs emerge from the room and people look at her confused.
"We should go." Bucky whispers in your ear, you nod and hold his hand as he walks in front of you towards the exit.
"We have special guests here...Y/N Stark and The Winter Soldier!" After her words all the lights in the room - literally - point at you two.
"Well, no need to hide anymore." You say as you take the mask off, the same does Bucky. He reaches for the gun in his jacket and you for the bracelet that Tony gave you, which quickly turns into something similar to his Iron Man suit but that only covers your arm.
"I'll give five million dollars to whoever will bring them to me! Dead or alive, it doesn't matter!" She laugh in the microphone.
The air crackles with tension as you and Bucky stand back-to-back, encircled by a sea of armed enemies. Your pulse quickens, but you steady your breathing, fingers brushing the edge of the wrist-mounted device Tony gave you. It's not a full suit, but it’s packed with enough tech to keep you alive — and dangerous.
Bucky’s voice is low and steady behind you. "First time fighting a small army?"
"First time fighting with you," you reply, flicking the device on. A translucent energy shield springs to life on your left arm, while the right crackles with an electric charge, ready to strike.
"Stick close, then," he says, a hint of a grin in his tone. "I'll cover you."
The first wave rushes in, and the chaos begins.
You pivot just as a gunman fires, your shield absorbing the bullets with a flickering hum. With a swift movement, you deactivate it and thrust your right hand forward, sending a burst of electricity into the attacker. He convulses and drops, but there’s no time to celebrate.
Bucky is a blur beside you, his metal arm a deadly weapon as he blocks a knife strike and counters with a bone-shattering punch. His movements are fluid, precise, like he’s done this a thousand times before.
But it’s the first for you.
Two more rush at you, and instinct kicks in. You duck low, shield reactivating just in time to block a swinging blade. With a sharp twist, you bash the shield into the attacker’s face, then spin and release a concussive blast from your device, sending the other flying.
"Not bad," Bucky grunts, catching a gunman by the throat and slamming him into the ground. "But keep your guard up."
"Thanks for the tip," you shoot back, dodging a hail of bullets and firing a stun charge in return. The shooter drops, twitching.
The two of you are able to get out of the room, "Wait!" Bucky stops you. You two put tables and chairs and everything you can find in front of the door to gain some time.
The moment you and Bucky burst out onto the open street, you know something’s wrong. The hairs on the back of your neck prickle, and your instincts scream at you to move. You catch a glint of metal on the rooftop: snipers. Without thinking, you lunge toward Bucky.
“Get down!” you shout, raising the energy shield just as the first shot rings out. The bullet ricochets off the shield with a sharp clang, and Bucky turns to you, eyes wide with surprise and something else —concern.
You barely manage a breath before another shot echoes. This one doesn’t bounce off. Pain blossoms in your side, hot and searing. The world blurs as you stumble, the shield flickering out as your strength falters.
“Y/N!” Bucky’s voice is raw, panicked, as he catches you before you hit the ground. His metal arm is solid, grounding you, but it feels like you’re floating—disconnected. The pain is overwhelming, but the look on his face cuts deeper.
“I’m—” you try to speak, but the words catch in your throat, replaced by a choked gasp. You clutch at your side, blood seeping between your fingers.
“Why did you that?!" He yells as he picks you up, quickly running in the car, laying you in the backseats and quickly driving towards the compound.
"Because you deserve to live." You simply say, trying to get a glimpse of him from the backseat, are those tears running down his eyes?
"But not at the cost of your own life!" He shouts, hitting the steering wheel with his fist.
"I'll survive." You stutter, pressing your hand over the wound.
"I sure hope you do so I can kill you myself." He shakes his head.
"I expected a thank you at least, is that how you will repay me for saving your life?" You chuckle, coughing up blood right after.
"I swear when you'll get out of the infirmary of the compound I'll kiss the life out of you."
Your eyes widen at his words and you smile, "I take it as a promise." You say as your eyes slowly close.
"Y/N? Y/N!" Are the last words you hear from him.
Two weeks later
Your eyes slowly open but you have to close them again because of the brightness of the room: you are in the compound's infirmary.
"You're awake." Bucky enters the room just as your eyes get used to the light, "Tony just left to get something to eat, he hasn't left your side since I got you back here."
"What happened to you?" You ask confused as you see his bruised face.
He chuckles and sits on the chair next to your bed, "Tony." He shakes his head, "He got mad at me when you came back unconscious and I almost without a scratch."
"What an asshole." You sigh.
"So, how do you feel?" He asks gently.
"Thirsty." You joke and he immediately hands you a glass of water while he tells you that you have been in coma for two weeks.
"Guess I finally was able to get some sleep." He shakes his head at your joke.
"Jokes like this remind me that you are, in fact, related to Tony." He places the glass back on the bedside table.
"So?" You ask as you raise a brow.
"So what?"
"What about your promise?"
"Which promise?"
"To kiss the life out of me once I'm healed."
"You aren't healed yet."
"Maybe a kiss will heal me."
"I thought you hated me."
"Hate, like, love...They're all so similar." You smirk as he gets closer to you.
"Call me old fashioned, but I usually prefer taking girls out on a date first." His face is so close to yours.
"Call me new fashioned, but I think we don't need a date first since I risked my life for you."
"Promise to go on a fate with me anyway after you get Banner's approval?"
"Promise." His lips are finally on yours and even thought your breath probably stinks because of the two weeks you spent in a come, you couldn't care less because his lips are so soft that you can't focus on anything else.
Until you hear a plate shattering from outside the room.
You and Bucky immediately separate and look at the wall that faces the hallway...Which is completely made of glass.
And right behind that glass stands Tony, with a broken plate and food at his feet, his mouth open wide in shock.
"Oh shit, am I a dead man?" Bucky asks you even though you both can't hold back a laugh.
"BARNES DID YOU JUST KISS MY LITTLE SITER?!"

Story Summary: What would happen if the Crystal Gems had settled down in a place other than Beach City, a little backwoods town just west of weird…? What if, upon coming to Gravity Falls for the summer, Dipper and Mabel were to befriend Steven and Connie? What kind of magical, mysterious adventures would they have? And, how would they fare against the combined threats of merciless Homeworld Gems and a certain triangular demon?
Find out what happens when Magic and Mystery meet in Universe Falls...
Chapter Summary: The Crystal Gems happen upon a tiny little town just west of weird… Oregon, 1843 Somewhere in the stars, there was a place they once called home.  None of them had seen it in centuries–one of them had never even seen it at all. None of them had any desire to see it either. Why would they want to when they want to, when everything they had fought so hard to save was right here on Earth?  No, as far as the Crystal Gems were concerned, they were exactly where they needed to be. For thousands of years, they’d wandered this strange, yet special planet together. They’d worked tirelessly to protect the humans who inhabited it from the echoes of the danger they first brought here. And though there were only four where there used to be many, they’d still stuck together through it all.  Even now as they headed into the unknown all over again. can i request Garnet with a s/o who uses ASL? like they can hear it's just their first/home language lol
☁️Garnet x reader who uses ASL☁️
As someone learning ASL, this request got me so excited! :)
Tumblr media
Garnet first met you in a party supply store, Garnet getting party decorations for Steven's birthday party.
You were trying your best to communicate with the cashier, trying to return an item you had accidentally bought the day prior, but no matter what you did the cashier was still left utterly confused.
Nonetheless, you continued trying to communicate with them even over their growing frustrations. They kept asking for you to, "Just tell me what you want!" Refusing to look at any note you wrote to them.
The tension kept rising as the cashier was about to kick you out, thankfully though, Garnet was there just in time to stop a potential fight.
She stopped the cashier mid sentence and turned to you, calmly asking, "What excatly do you need?" Then quickly taking the note you handed to her, reading it, and turning back to the cashier.
"They are looking to return this item."
And after one frustrated grumble later, you managed to get your money back! ...In store credit-
A win is a win you suppose.
Garnet led you out of the store, having bought her supplies while the cashier processed the return.
The automatic doors closed behind you two, and you turned to face Garnet, signing, "Thank you!" And although Garnet didn't understand what the sign meant, she replied with a, "No problem." Before walking off to the temple.
After that, you hadn't seen eachother for a while. Garnet had missions, and you had life to deal with.
Garnet being busy didn't stop her from thinking about you though, infact, your interactions intrigued her. Of course, she's met deaf and hard of hearing people before, but something about you stuck out to her...
...
Maybe, it's because she thought you were cute.
When she came to this revelation, she thought it was as good as a time if any to learn ASL.
' It's an important skill. ' She tried to rationalize, just a tad in denial.
When you guys met again, this time at the Big Donut, you can only imagine your suprise when you asked Garnet about her day in ASL, and she signed back-
You were rightfully ecstatic!
Only a few people in Beach City knew ASL, so it was nice to actually be able to communicate with someone else. Not to mention, Garnet was a fast learner too!
You rapidly signed back to Garnet, asking when she learnt ASL and if there was anything like sign language for gems.
Garnet and you grew expectionally close in one afternoon.
From then on, you would visit the temple to hang out with Garnet. This, of course, meant you met the other gems, Steven, and eventually Connie, you all got along well though.
Steven and Amethyst love to go on adventures with you, Pearl enjoys having you help out around the temple, and Connie is actually learning ASL from you.
You make sure to reserve some time with Garnet too amid the shenanigans.
As Garnet grew closer to you, it was getting harder and harder to deny her feelings for you. The inner Ruby and Sapphire in her were urging for Garnet to confess to you, in the most cheesy ways possible...
Garnet knew how she'd confess to you, and she didn't even need future vision for it.
Garnet invited you to go on patrol with her during the evening, which was really just strolling on the beach.
And as the sun set hit the tide, the temple back in the distance, Garnet turned to you and signed, "I love you." A simple gesture, but something she really hope you would love.
How could you say no to that???
You guys were now officially dating, And Garnet is absolutely in love. Ruby and Sapphire are not helping, as they urge her to hurry up and get a ring-
Garnet loves to get you any kind of ASL related thing she can find, shirts, mugs, pins, bumper stickers, all of it.
She also teaches the Crystal Gems (minus Pearl) ASL so they can communicate easier with you.
It was while you were dating that you told Garnet why you use ASL and it's cultural significance to you, which she is extremely supportive of. It really doesn't matter if you can or can't hear, she loves you for you.
And if you want to open up about your voice and actually speaking, then she's more than happy to help you. Definitely makes sure you are completely comfortable with it and makes sure you won't push yourself too hard, she doesn't want you to feel forced to do anything.
The first time Garnet heard your voice her jaw dropped, her thought process was literally, ' How can someone be so perfect? '
Loves your voice, 10/10, would 100% listen to it again, only if you want to though.
It really doesn't matter how often she uses her future vision, you always leave her breathless.
God help any bullies that try and mess with you, Garnet is not having it. She might seem calm, cool, and collected, but inside, she is seething.
How can they bully someone for such an arbitrary thing like using another language??
Personal bodyguard Garnet❤️💙
Now, when Garnet unfuses and you get to meet Sapphire and Ruby, you best believe they are all over you.
Ruby is determined to learn ASL from you and no one else!
Sapphire is just giddy to meet the person Garnet loves so much. She would also love to learn ASL too though.
Ruby and Sapphire would practice with eachother and go on dates while only communicating in ASL-
Garnet would also love to meet your family if you'd let her, being able to see your family and culture is definitely on her bucket list.
Sorry that this is so long, I just love Garnet-

Fandom: Steven Universe Rating: Teen Audiences Words: 2.0K~ Summary: His family’s not present the third time he runs away… they never see the creature he becomes. Early corruption AU.
This chapter fought me the entire way because it's nothing but a nonstop action sequence, but oh well XD
It's done now! Enjoy.
_
Chapter 20: An Undesired Truth
“All right,” Garnet calls, summoning her gauntlets with a snappy pivot of her wrists. “This is it, Gems. Stay together, and stick to the plan.”
Defensive and strategic maneuvers only, they all agreed. No attacking to poof, unless the luster of one’s very gem depends on it. This restriction will raise the potential danger of this mission tenfold, but there’s no suitable alternative at play here. After all— given Amethyst’s disturbing yet convincing theory about its identity— they simply can’t risk harming the creature.
“On your ready—!”
The trio squares up, brandishing their weapons in preparation for whatever upsetting scene is about to rear its monstrous head over those trees. But before she can so much as utter the command to advance, the corrupted Gem’s whole upper body rises above the foliage. Her mouth falls ajar. She’s altogether paralyzed in its sight. Its mournful eyes bore into her own, inky black with glistening pink irises. A singular tear escapes her futile attempt at emotional stasis, slipping out from under her visor and dampening her cheek.
Tumblr media
Those eyes… she ruminates, her fists clenching with unrestrained anguish within the security of her gauntlets. That face, it’s—
Quick as a sheet of lightning, three separate visions surge to full color within her consciousness, spiderwebbing their way across the geometric planes of her gems and permeating through every single branching route of her hard-light form.
The first is a vital realization— of what is, never mind all their biased notions.
Another is a premonition— of what could be, should she make the wrong decision in this place.
And the last is a promise— a solemn vow to herself… to every last member of her family. An opportunity to act. To be brave.
Garnet closes her third eye.
For the first time in weeks, she knows exactly what she needs to do.
“Let’s go! Go!” she beckons to her teammates with a wave of her gauntleted hand, sensing the need to slice through their paralyzing distress.
Amethyst and Pearl both nod, their horrified expressions hardening into a diligent focus. Good. It’s iron-willed attitude like this that is sure to be their saving grace today.
And thus, with a wide, inciting slash of Amethyst’s whip against the corruption’s pink scaled legs, the encounter begins.
Stick to the plan, her own voice echoes tauntingly, now fully aware of the blunt danger she’s about to put both herself and her teammates in.
Task one: Seize the Gem’s attention. Lure them towards an open section of the beach.
Of all the stages of their scheme, this one is by far the simplest. It never took much more than encroaching upon a corrupted Gem’s territory to antagonize any of the others, and on surface, the creature the three of them face here today responds to their goading attacks no differently. The Gem thrashes their way across the sands in an almost indignant frenzy, flailing their arms and tail towards them as if vying to swat all of them right into the ocean’s wake. Amethyst leaps out of striking range of that barbed tail just in the nick of time, but alas Pearl is not so lucky. She lets loose a sharp yelp as the barest edge of this limb slams against her side, launching her all the way back to the jungle’s edge.
Garnet’s fists clench tighter within her spiked gauntlets as she skirts around the creature— now wholly distracted by her teammates’ whip and spear— from behind, setting herself up for the beginning of phase two. Can’t look, don’t look, she reminds herself, energy thrumming like a burning neutron star at her core. It wasn’t a critical strike. Pearl can more than handle herself in a fight. And anyways, she can’t let herself get distracted by the grim reminder of all the what-ifs she still can’t see, no, not for a second. She’s their captain. She steers their ship. A miracle in and of itself, she tugged the threads of this precise sequence of events out from a tapestry woven from untold millions of futures, and now all that’s left to do is ensure it won’t fray at the ends as she puts it into action— no matter the consequences.
Stick to the plan, she repeats within her mind again. Not the plan that was discussed on the ship— not anymore— but the plan she saw.
Once Pearl and Amethyst have cornered the corrupted Gem on a large enough swath of beach, she summons the first piece of Bismuth and Peridot’s handiwork from her gem, a potent energy core they cobbled together from some old scrapped ship tech fastened to a large spike that’s sturdy enough to anchor it into the dampened sand.
Task two: While the others keep the corrupted Gem distracted, lay out all six barrier axis crystals in an equidistant circle.
She stakes crystal number one as deep as she can muster and rapidly moves on to the second.
The third.
The fourth.
It’s at this stage, however, where wrangling the gargantuan beast becomes a good deal more complicated.
As she sprints towards the fifth insertion point, she senses one of the corrupted Gem’s limbs swinging towards her faster than a Roaming Eye surging into FTL travel. Out of sheer bodily habit she moves to dodge, but then—
With a mighty yell, Pearl fires off two energy bolts from her spear. They collide against a nearby palm tree, splintering the wood of its trunk and felling it atop their bright pink opponent, knocking their already disproportionate form precariously off balance. The spiked tail never reaches her.
Good, she thinks, breath heavy. Just as predicted. That’s one step closer to the path she envisioned for them all.
But now…
Garnet summons the second to last barrier axis crystal.
“Amethyst!” she barks, perhaps a bit more forceful than she intended within the heat of this encounter. “Keep the corrupted Gem within the circle! Pearl, from here on out, cover Amethyst, not me! Do not let those hands touch her!”
Pearl’s eyes flash with distress as she spins her glance to her, the motion ever so swift. “B-but what about—?”
“I’ll be fine, just watch each other’s backs, we’re almost there—“
She stakes the fifth crystal into place.
Only one left.
Their opponent slams their hind legs into the sand as they attempt a sweeping swat at Amethyst, just barely missing one of the previously placed crystals. And oh stars, these six are all Bismuth and Peridot had time to make, if he smashes one of them—
Stick to the plan, she once again reminds herself, sprinting across the beach towards the sixth insertion point, to where she’ll finally complete her circle. With Pearl covering, Amethyst will pull through in the end. She has to.
Task three.
(The Gem rears back, the horns atop their head and the crystalline spikes jutting out from their joints beginning to emit a dull glow of warning.)
In many ways, given the soul of what’s at stake, this task— while not anything she has conscious control over, merely the desperate want of a damned Gem— is the most vital of all of them:
Whatever happens, don’t get cracked.
She clenches her jaw taut as she manifests that final barrier axis crystal within her grasp, every last one of her senses tinging with expectation… the innermost facets of her gems already knowing what’s coming, already feeling what’s coming—
“Garnet, look out!”
But she doesn’t dodge. Doesn’t back down. Doesn’t deviate from the plan, from her promise. Because if she fails in her mission here… if she delays the activation of this barrier any longer… if she places her own wellbeing over Steven’s… then this lost, confused Gem will successfully push past their defenses to escape into the ocean’s murky unknown, and they’ll have lost him forever.
“I’m so, so sorry,” she chokes out to this poor, tortured creature, a singular tear rolling down her cheek as she secures the final device in the sands and uses her last millisecond of borrowed time to flick on the barrier’s power-up switch.
The corrupted Gem roars, emitting an explosive shockwave of energy powerful enough to hurl her through the air as straight as a dart, straight across this island’s tree-lined shore, straight into—
~
Pearl is helpless to do anything but watch as Ruby and Sapphire’s gemstones drop into the sand beneath that distant palm tree, Garnet’s form poofed on impact after being slammed against its trunk at terrifying force.
“Garnet!” she cries once more, her form outright stuttering with panic.
She scrambles back to her feet, brandishing her spear as she spins to face the monster that just singlehandedly poofed one of her dearest friends like it was child’s play. Stars above—! Amethyst and her are ridiculously lucky that its sonic attack wasn’t pointed their way, otherwise there’s a good chance they too would have suffered the same fate.
But there’s no time to think.
No time to fuss and fluster.
There’s barely any time to even process the loss of her fallen teammate as the corrupted Gem rears around to point those intimidatingly dark orbs their way, hungry for release… hungry for freedom.
“Hey!” Amethyst bellows from across the sands. “Keep lively, that barrier’s gotta power up for thirty seconds ‘fore it goes up, remember? We gotta keep this guy from escaping!”
Shaking away the scattered remnants of her hysteria, Pearl tightens her grip on her spear.
“Right,” she nods, leaping right back into action.
“I’ll try ta’ tie ‘em down, you keep ‘em dancing with your spear bolts!”
And so— two against one— that’s exactly what they set out to do.
She darts around the barrier’s perimeter, shooting a myriad of energy bolts around the corruption’s feet to keep it in the center as Amethyst swings up upon its back with her whip and tries to lasso it by the horns. The monster roars, clamorous and anguished. It throws its head about like a dog shedding water, knocking the quartz clear off her perch. Pearl pivots sharp on her heels as she watches Amethyst slam into the ground, the ceaseless waves of hard-light coursing through her system jittering in instinctive sympathy at the sheer ferocity of this impact. But it’s not enough to poof her, thank the stars. It’s not enough to kill what stubborn fighting spirit they both have left.
…it might’ve succeeded in distracting them, though.
Pearl gasps as she notices what’s coming, closing in on her partner with all the pinpoint finesse of a seasoned warrior.
“AMETHYST—!” she hollers, surging to action.
Mere seconds before the corrupted Gem can knock the quartz across the beach with one of its powerful, muscular arms, she readies her weapon in hand and prepares to take her shot. It’s not what Garnet would’ve wanted, but she can’t see any other choice.
With a mighty yell, Pearl hurls her spear straight at the Gem’s mouth, the point ricocheting off one of its razor sharp teeth.
The impact is jarring enough to throw its balance entirely askew.
Amethyst scrambles to her feet unharmed and rushes to join her, which would’ve served as a shining victory if it weren’t for the troubling little sight that greets them next. That monster emits a pitiable whine as it staggers around the clearing… an unmistakable line of vivid red blood dripping from the crease of its gums where its tooth had been knocked crooked. With a glittering burst of dauntingly familiar pink magic (oh, no… please, no—!), the pulp of its gaping maw stitches itself back together.
An electric hum radiates in her periphery as she stands there trembling, all but locked in place at the horrid reality of what she’s just done. She barely registers Amethyst’s harried call for attention. Barely registers the white hot surge of energy whipping up around her as the other Gem spins her whip around the corruption’s legs at sonic speed. It’s not until Amethyst outright tackles her out of the fray and the semi-spherical barrier surges to life behind them that the cruel flow of time finally catches up.
Pearl shudders, fingers scouring deep trenches in the dampened sand. She turns her head, bracing her mind and spirit for the punishing truth she’s about to gaze upon.
The creature collapses upon its side within the enclosure, breathing ragged after such a ceaseless display of ferocity and strength.
Almost entirely enshrouded from view within an endless sea of scales, the pentagonal facets of Steven’s diamond shimmers at the very center of his belly.

Drafts for my next fanfic: Couple’s Therapy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought of doing a Connverse/Benlie fic for a while and am a bit more confident with my writing skills than I was then. I don’t have all the ideas down but I do have some of the character dynamics figured out. Basically what happens is Steven visits Bellwood with Connie while on his road trip, post Future, and they end up having to help Ben and Julie sort out some of their issues.
Connverse does remind me a bit of a healthier and better written Benlie which is why I picked them. Both shows take a lot of inspiration from anime like Sailor Moon and Evangelion with Ben and Steven being the male version of Usagi Tsukino with a bit of Shinji Ikari thrown in. Both also get hate from their fandoms and are seen as “bland” for being a heterosexual white boy while ignoring the nuances of the character. People in both fandoms make Julie or Connie into toxic girlfriends usually to prop up another ship like Stevinel or Bwen which is gross or Brooken/Bevin. Nothing against slash but there’s no need to trash the female characters to prop up gay ships. There may also be some racism from Bwen/Stevinel fans with Ben/Steven’s love interests being POC.
My interpretation of Ben and Steven’s dynamic is sort of a middle ground between them being bros and @theangrycomet’s headcanon that they can’t stand each other. Ben’s attitude reminds Steven a bit of pre development Lars and Kevin (SU’s Kevin, not Kevin Levin). Both envy each other and think the other has it easy. Steven envies Ben’s relatively normal upbringing and his ability to remove his powers if he wished. Ben is irked by Steven not having to deal with people like Will Harangue and him having far less responsibilities post CYM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They do eventually connect over some of their shared experiences, mainly the gem and Highbreed wars. Hearing about Steven befriending and healing Lapis and Peridot may remind Ben a bit of Reinrassig. Ben opens up a little about wanting fame because he’s always been in the shadow of Gwen and wanted to feel special reminding Steven of his issues with Rose/Pink. Ben’s love of aliens like Feedback because they make him feel strong and guilt over the loss bring back memories of Amethyst’s insecurities for Steven and Ben’s need to act strong as the leader to the point he pulls 4 all nighters reminds Steven of Garnet’s struggles as well as his own in episodes like ‘The Test’.
youtube
I think Connie and Julie would have an easier time getting along. Both being good at school and fond of activities like tennis, although Connie has no plans for it as a career. Connie’s political ambitions and need to prep for college early do remind Julie a bit of Gwen which worries her on whether Connie has issues with perfectionism. Priyanka is still a better parent than Natalie btw. Julie is shown to be very competitive and headstrong which concerns Connie. Remember how she demanded a rematch when Ben used Brainstorm to win a round of mini golf. Both of them have some trauma that’s often ignored and are quick to respond violently in a panic attack. Connie at least had Garnet to help her practice mindfulness which she may try to share with Julie who was neglected by the other characters and the writers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both can relate to feeling undervalued. Steven forgetting that they were meant to be a team when he sacrificed himself to Homeworld and not caring about how it hurt Connie. Ben not caring about Ship and insisting she stay home in ‘Pet Project’ or his treatment of her in ‘Duped’ and ‘The Flamekeeper’s Circle’. Julie being dismissed as just the “girlfriend of Ben Tennyson” in the latter episode does bring back memories of Pearl telling Connie she means nothing and is just supposed to be a knight for Steven. Both can also relate to saving their partners in their darkest moments. Connie helping monster Steven in ‘I am My Monster’ and Julie stopping Ben from abusing the power of Ascalon in ‘The Ultimate Enemy’.
I do have some other ideas down such as Ben and Steven unintentionally swapping jackets like Ben and Rex did in Heroes United or a race between the Dondai and DX Mark 10 which will boost Ben’s ego much to everyone’s annoyance. It will stay mostly canon to the shows with the stuff I don’t like in Omniverse getting cut, sort of like Ben 10 Guardians. The US in SU has different states than Ben 10 which is mostly the same as the real world. I do not hate Kai, Ester, Kevin or Rook btw or those who prefer them with Ben, I just prefer Benlie even if the writing went downhill. Nor do I hate OV or its fans, I just prefer UAF. Writing this post, I also realized that Ester and Spinel have similar powers which is just a coincidence but funny. I wanted to write this for a while but never got the time or motivation to do so until now.

“Oh, Lapis!” Greg called out, waving to the blue Gem sitting on a beach chair in front of the beach house and looking at her phone, as he came around the cliff. “Did you see Pearl get back from – wait, what happened to the roof?”
“Oh,” said Lapis, looking up, “Peridot and Amethyst were talking about Steven’s Diamond powers, and Peri wanted to test a hypothesis.”
“About whether Steven was strong enough to destroy his roof?”
“Oh, no. We all know he is already,” said Lapis matter-of-factly. “Peri’s been working on a way to free Pearls from their programming, and she’s been looking for a test subject for weeks.”
“Wait, she didn’t ask Pearl Pearl, did she? Pearl’s been free for thousands of years, right? I’ve never seen her take orders from any–” He stopped mid-sentence as the realization hit (cut off his words as he had seen Pearl do many times since Steven surrendered himself to Homeworld).
“Yup,” said Lapis. “Apparently Peridot in her genius had the idea of asking Steven to test whether Pink Diamond’s authority transferred to his gem, thus making Pearl a suitable test subject.”
“Yeesh,” said Greg. “Hold on, if there are two person shaped holes in the… did Pearl throw my son through the roof? Did Steven actually go along with this?”
“Oh, no, of course not,” said Lapis. “Peridot and I were over to visit when she brought this up to Steven and Amethyst, and Pearl came in right as Amethyst was suggesting possible – experiments.” She rolled her eyes. “Something about making Pearl recite an – egg man announcement?”
Greg stared.
“And as for me,” said Lapis, turning her attention back to her phone, “I’m just enjoying the show. And filming.”
“What sh—”
They were interrupted by Peridot running down the beach, screaming, Amethyst beside her, both being chased by Pearl, spear in hand, who was being chased by a very frantic Steven yelling, “Pearl please stop! I would never make you do that!”
Lapis waved to Peridot.
“LAZULI GET DOWN HERE AND HELP!” screeched Peridot.
“Gee, I’m sorry, P, we weren’t going to actually do it!” yelled Amethyst over her shoulder.
Garnet strolled up with a, “Sorry, I was busy,” and crossed her arms to watch as Pearl yelled after the fleeing duo, “AMETHYST YOU ARE A BITCH-ASS MOTHERFUCKER! YOU SHAPESHIFTED INTO MY FUCKING WIFE!”
“Is she gonna recite the whole thing?” Greg whispered to Garnet.
Garnet adjusted her visor. “‘I'm shapeshifting into White Diamond and pissing on the moon.’”

Slipped Away
It’s Steven’s birthday and Greg is thinking about his mom. But, that won’t get in the way of their fun day out in Delaware.
⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️
He missed her… He missed everything about her… Her smile, her laugh, her curiosity about Earth. Everything….
He misses his girlfriend dearly.
Greg Universe sighed, and checked his phone — It was August 15, Steven’s Birthday. Greg looked up at the ceiling of the wooden beach house. He looked at his phone, his wallpaper was of him and Steven with the Crystal Gems. Greg sighed again, he opened his phone went to his camera roll, and found a file titled “Rose.” Greg’s finger hovered on the screen, He pressed it and then saw videos and pictures from his VHS tapes that he and Rose recorded together.
Greg saw his favorite one. That was the day that She was going to have a baby with him. When his girlfriend told him that she and Steven couldn’t both exist, he was devastated. He wanted to be with her for the rest of his life. He wanted to grow old with her — well, she couldn’t age because her body was just an illusion. Greg didn’t understand Gem stuff, and he probably never will but….
He knew that he missed her a lot. But, at least he has Steven. He smiled as he sat up, the man looked up at his loft bedroom, the half-gem was sleeping peacefully in bed. Steven was kind enough to have him stay over the night for his birthday tomorrow. Steven, Amethyst, Connie, Lapis, Paradot, and himself were all going to go to the arcade together.
Greg saw a video, he read the top of the screen that said August 2, 2000 9:42 PM. He clicked on it and started to watch it.
“Hey, you wanna dance?” Greg asked her. Rose smiled and walked towards him. Rose was nine months with Steven. And they were trying to spend as much time as possible.
Greg smiled as he set the camera up on a tripod. He walked over to her, wearing his Jordans that he got at a thrift shop. Rose had a pair of Jordans too, but the Nike Swoosh was hot pink — just like her hair color, and the rest of the shoe was white. They danced to the music of ‘Your Beautiful’ by ‘James Blunt’
Greg and Rose both kissed after the song ended. Greg put his phone on the charger and tried to get to sleep.

“Hello, people of YouTube!” Steven Quartz Universe said, smiling, it was eight in the morning in Beach City, and his laptop was playing Sonic The Hedgehog 4 music. He dressed in shorts, walked to his dresser, and picked out a shirt, he picked out a white Metelacia T-shirt, slipped it over his head adjusted it. He clenched the fabric softly where his gem was placed and smiled, he ran down the stairs with his camera and got started on breakfast.
“Okay… Let’s see—“
“STEVEN!” Amethyst screamed in his ear making the boy jump a few feet in the air. Literally.
“Ah, Amethyst!” he yelled. Amethyst laughed as she saw the half-gem boy float down to the ground.
“Happy Birthday, dude!” She said. Steven smiled and hugged his friend. “You excited for today?”
Steven nodded.
Amythest saw the camera recording. “Ohh! your vlogging for YouTube!”
“Yeah! It’s a birthday vlog thingy,” he said as he continued cooking his eggs. he put them on a plate and ate them.
Just then, the screen door opened. It was Connie, Steven’s best friend. Steven ran up and hugged her. “Happy Birthday, Steven!” Connie said.
“Thanks, Connie!” he said happily. “Hey, where’s Pearl and Garnet?” she asked.
“I don’t know.” Then, he got a video call on his laptop, the music lowered as his MacBook Pro started showing an icon. Steven ran up the stairs, sat on his bed, and picked up his laptop, he saw that it said ‘Paradot’ He smiled as he clicked the green Accept button.
“Hey, Paridot, Lapis. What’s up?”
“Happy Birthday Steven!” Both Lapis and Paradot said.
Steven smiled. “Thank you,” he said.
“Hey, I’ll see you at the party.”
“Okay! we're having it at the arcade right?” Lapis asked the boy.
Steven nodded. Then she hung up after exchanging goodbyes. Steven walked downstairs and got a text from his dad.
Grab a pair of shoes, Schtu-ball.
Steven sent a thumbs up emoji and went upstairs grabbed his white and red Jordan’s and tied them with a pair of socks. He went downstairs, Connie was sitting in the kitchen with Amythest, talking. Greg walked in.
“Happy Birthday, Schtu-ball!” he said, Steven ran up to him and hugged him. “Thanks, Dad!” Greg smiled picked him up and spun him around. Steven laughed as he was being spun.
“You kids ready to go?”
“Yeah!” the three of them said.
⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️
Steven was in the front seat of his father’s mid-1970s Dodge Tradesman, Amethyst and Connie both sat in the back then they got going. Greg put it on his iTunes and then picked out a song called 'Lonely Day' by 'System Of A Down.'
"Such a lonely day, and it's mine
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day should be banned
It's a day that I can't stand"
Greg and Steven sang the lyrics to the song, Steven opened the window and put his hand out, the smell of the sand and the salty beach air hit his nose as they drove.
"The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day shouldn't exist
It's a day that I'll never miss
Such a lonely day, and it's mine
The most loneliest day of my life"
Steven turned to his father, he was curious why they didn’t go to the arcade like they planned to.
"And if you go, I wanna go with you
And if you die, I wanna die with you
Take your hand and walk away"
The solo kicked in, they listened to it. Then someone broke the silence. “Yo, G. Why aren’t we going to the arcade?” Amethyst asked. Connie looked at the back of the driver’s seat. Greg smiled and said nothing, Steven was wondering that too.
“Daaaad! Why aren’t we going to the arcade?”
“You’ll see soon enough, Steven. It’s a surprise.” Seven nodded, stars still in his eyes as he sat there. Can’t help to contain his excitement for this trip.
"The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
Life
Such a lonely day, and it's mine
It's a day that I'm glad I survived"

They've made it to the Bowling Alley located in Pike Washington Delaware–Pleasant Hill Lanes was their party destination. Steven had birthday parties here since he started growing up at eight years old.
“Dad! Where bowling?!” Greg smiled and ruffled his fluffy hair. Steven smiled and stepped out of the van. He got a text from Pearl that their table was ready. Steven smiled as he saw the place.
The half-gem boy's eyes sparkled as he saw a spacious bowling alley with a large open area and various seating options. There are multiple rows of bowling lanes, some of which are lined with green pins. A total of six bowling lanes can be seen in the scene, each one having its own set of pins and bowling balls.
The room is filled with various furniture pieces such as chairs, couches, and tables. In addition to the bowling lanes, there are two couches placed at different locations within the space. One couch is situated closer to the left side of the room, while another is located near the right side. There are also several dining tables scattered throughout the area, offering a comfortable setting for guests to relax and enjoy their time.
“Where are Pearl and Garnet?” Connie asked.
“Pearl texted me that she was at lanes one and two,” Greg said. Steven ran to lane one to see the pale-skinned gem setting up. “Pearl!” Steven said, running towards her.
“Hello! Steven! Happy Birthday!” Pearl said, hugging him. “I can’t believe that you're fourteen!” Steven smiled and looked around, there were balloons, plates, and chairs decorated with a Transformers and Sonic The Hedgehog theme.
“Everything looks great, Pearl!” Greg said. She gave them a thumbs up.
“Who’s coming?”
“Sadie, Lars, Sour Cream, Onion, Kiki, and Buck,” she said, reading the names off her clipboard.
“Ugh, you look like a high school teacher holding that, dude.” Amethyst rolled her eyes at her.
“Amethyst!”
“What?! you do!”
“Hey, has anyone seen Garnet?”
“I asked her to get some food for the party,” Pearl told the man. Greg nodded
Steven looked at the arcade. “Amethyst, wanna play at the arcade?”
“Okay! Yo, Greg, can you give us some cash!” She asked, Greg nodded, pulled out his Batman wallet, and handed them twenty dollars.
“AWESOME!” Both Amythest and Steven both said, both Gem and Half-Gem ran to the arcade.
Then, Greg saw Garnet walk in holding veggie platters in her hands. “Hey, Garnet. What’s up?” Greg asked. Connie stood there, Greg noticed this. “Connie, you okay?”
“What? Yeah! I’m fine I’m going to play with Steven and Amythest.” she said, walking off.
Greg, Pearl, and Garnet were setting up. Garnet was opening up plates and napkins, Pearl opened up the veggie platter, she tried not to gag and cringe in disgust from the sight of food, and thinking about people eating it. Greg stared at her.
“Pearl, you alright?”
“Yeah yeah! I’m fine! just the sight of food makes me…..” she couldn’t finish that sentence.
Geeze… she’s so dramatic. Greg thought to himself, as he looked at his phone, Steven’s cake was ready to get picked up. He was going to a special bakery in Delaware to retrieve it.
Greg grabbed the keys to his van and he walked out of the building. He unlocked his van sat inside and turned it on, the engine hummed to life as he drove to the bakery.
He was at the bakery, A woman walked out with his cake. “Here you go, Mr. Universe.” Greg smiled as he paid for it. He grabbed the box and went back to his van.
⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️
He drove back to Pleasant Hill Lanes and went inside. Steven, Connie, and Amythest were still playing in the arcade, Sadie was now there with Lars, Sour Cream, Onion, Buck, Kiki, Lapis, and Paradot.
“Hey Mr. U! Where’s Steven?” Buck Dewey asked the older man, who was holding the box.
“Oh, he’s in the arcade, let me text him,” he said, putting the cake down pulling out his iPhone 5s from his pocket, and texting him. The blue iMessage bubble pops up. Steven read it and typed back. OK, I’ll be there now. he texted.
The half Gem ran with Amythest following behind him. “Hi guys!” he said cheerfully.
“Hey, Steven!” Sadie waved. Lars stood there, and Sadie elbowed him in the stomach. “Ow! What was that for?”
“Tell Steven Happy Birthday!”
Lars grumbled. “Happy Birthday, Steven…”
“Aren’t you like…. Ten?” he asked.
“He’s fifteen, Lars!” Sadie hissed.
“Okay, jeez! so-rry!” he said, Sadie smiled and handed a gift bag to Greg. “Thanks, guys,” he said, putting Lars' gift bag on the table as well. The young Gem Hydrid smiled at them, Sadie smiled and ruffled his hair. “Happy Birthday, little dude!”
“Happy Birthday, Steven! Paradot and I got you a gift,” she said, handing him the bag.
“Thanks, guys.” he smiled
Lars sighed and tried to smile. “Happy Birthday, Steven.” he sighed, wondering why he was here. And why did Sadie force him to go, he wasn’t friends with a… Tenth grader — or, fifth grader, in Lars’ opinion.
Then, Kiki, Buck, Sour Cream, and his little brother Onion walked in. Lars was about to scream when he saw The Cool Kids here.
“H-Hey guys, what are you doing at this lame kids' party?” Lars asked. Sadie glared at him.
Sour Cream stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked at Steven. “Hey, Steven asked us to come, he’s pretty awesome. Give him a chance.”
“Ugh, whatever…” he said, crossing his arms.
Steven walked up to the counter to get bowling shoes. He grabbed his shoes and put them on, he strapped the velcro to his shoes and then stood up. Sadie grabbed some bowling balls for them. Steven put everyone’s names on the screen.
“Hey, Pearl aren’t you playing with us?” Steven asked, putting his name on the board. “I am fine, Steven. Plus, I’m not wearing those… Disgusting bowing shoes. Everyone puts their feet in those.” she cringed. Amethyst rolled her eyes as She put on her bowling shoes, then she walked up to the screen to put her, Garnet’s Lapis’ and Paradot’s names in.
“Alright, we're all set, Sadie you're up first,” Steven told his friend. Sadie picked up her ball and rolled it down the lane. Steven looked as the pins crashed. Steven saw that she got a strike.
“Nice job, Sadie!” Steven said. Encouraging her. Sadie smiled and sat down, Lars went next.
Picking up his bowling ball after sticking his fingers into the three holes, he rolled it down the lane. His ball went to the side.
“Why?!” Lars said he got another chance, he got it but it was two pins. “You gotta be kidding me! Steven, did you rig this game?!” Lars asked picking the boy up by the shirt.
“Lars! put him down!” Sour Cream said,
“Put him down, dude!” Kiki told him, glaring at the taller boy. Lars sighed and put him down. “Sorry, Steven,” Kiki said. Steven smiled. “That’s alright! I know he was just kidding around!” the Half Gem said as he went next, Steven picked up his bowling ball and threw it, his friends cheered as he got a strike.
“Way to go, Steven!” Kiki said from the other lane, Steven blushed and walked over to his friends, Buck was up now. Kiki, Onion, Amethyst, and Garnet were on the other lane.
Kiki saw Garnet go. She got a strike as well. “Nice, Garnet!” Kiki said. They played two rounds before they had lunch.
Greg returned with pizzas in his hands, Steven grabbed a slice. So as his friends and Amethyst. He grabbed a slice and sat next to his son.
Amethyst smiled and put a hand on Steven’s shoulder. Steven’s friends all sat and talked, except Lars.
“This is awesome!” Paradot exclaimed as she saw her name up on the screen, Lapis and Paradot took two turns each while all of them were eating. Once they were done, Garnet pulled out the cake and she opened it, The fusion removed it from the box and Steven stared at it in awe with stars in his eyes.
The birthday cake is a very unique and creative design, with a green and white fondant cake as the main base. The cake features a large, multi-layered cake decorated with various characters from the Sonic The Hedgehog video game series, including Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. The characters were placed around the edges of the cake, giving it a whimsical and playful appearance.
Additionally, there are several smaller cakes placed throughout the arrangement, each one decorated with a different character. A small cupcake is also visible towards the bottom left corner of the cake. The cake stands on a dining table, surrounded by various items such as cups, bowls, and plastic bottles, creating a fun and festive atmosphere for the birthday celebration.
In the middle, in yellow fondant, it said ‘HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY STEVEN’ Amythest had to get pushed out of the way by Pearl. “Amethyst! down! we have to sing Steven Happy Birthday!”
“Oh, right…” Amythest said. Greg pulled out his iPhone and pressed record.
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy Birthday Dear, Steven!”
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy Birthday, my handsome half-gem .” Pearl said hugging him and kissing his cheek.
“Ahhh! Gem coodies!” Steven rubbed his cheek trying to get Pearl’s spit off. Amethyst laughed.
“MY HANDSOME HALF GEM!” Amythest laughed even harder. Lars also laughed, Steven blushed and leaned onto his chair. Garnet put a comforting hand on his shoulder. Steven looked at her, he smiled, and Garnet rubbed his hair. Steven blew out the candles and everyone cheered.
“Let’s eat some cake!” Amethyst said. Greg smiled and cut a piece for Steven, everyone got some, except for Pearl and Garnet. Steven ate his cake, everyone was having a good time. Greg saw the pictures taken on his phone, he walked to Steven.
“Pearl, can you take a picture of me and Steven?” Greg asked. Pearl took his phone from her and took a picture of both of them, then. Everyone got into the picture and an employee took the group photo of them.
Steven’s family.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Pairing: Steve G. Rogers x fem!reader
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Genre: angsty (ok, a lot of angst) romance and tiny bit of fluff
ᯓᡣ𐭩 AU: Steve is born in the 21st century and isn't a superhero, basically the world is like ours
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Story type: one shot
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Word count: 4.1 K
ᯓᡣ𐭩 TW(s): talks of death, domestic abuse, deadbeat father, a lot of angst, I know nothing about football so incorrect football things.
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Request: Hi! | have a request for a story for Steve Rogers x female character. The genre would be romance but it would be very angsty/sad but with a happy ending. (the request is longer but if I write it here it'll spoil the story)
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Comment if you want to be added to the taglist (specify if you want the everything taglist or for a specific character)
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Songs & Superheroes tales — The Game (to make a request, follow the rules on the link!)
Tumblr media
Seven years ago
“48…49…50! I’ll find you, Y/N!” Steve says as he turns around from the tree he was facing, his eyes scanning the small park, trying to find where you were hiding. You have always been good at this game, but he was always better.
“Found you!” Steve says as he sees you crunching down in the little house on the slide.
“How can you always find me?!” You sigh and sit down on the dirty wood of the Colorful House, that’s how you both called it even though with the years it had lost most of its color, leaving only some red and some blue here and there.
“I already checked your other favorite places, so the Colorful house was the only place left.” Steve explains proudly as he sits down next to you.
“Next time I’ll be the one counting and I’ll find you in less than five seconds!” You pout, but the smile comes back on your face when a certain thought crosses your mind, “Are you excited to start middle school, Stevie?”
The boy shrugs his shoulders, “it’s just school.”
“No it isn’t! It’s the big kids’ school!” You were excited, like really excited. You, who usually hate school, haven't stopped talking about middle school since the start of summer break. You have already bought all the supplies you needed and more.
“It will all be the same, study, more study and study even more!” Steve sighs, you give him a playful nudge with your elbow.
“You say that only because you’ll have less time to play football.” Football has always been Steve’s sport, he liked and he was damn good at it.
“Maybe.” Steve gave you a small smile.
Three years later
“Stevie? What’s this?” You ask, confused, as you look at the big truck in front of Steve’s house, two men are putting boxes in it.
Steve flinches when hearing his name, he didn’t want her to see this, “Y/N! I can…can explain…”
“Are you moving out? Without telling me?” Your voice is barely a whisper as you look up at your best friend, he has gotten taller over the years and his first muscles started to show thanks to his football training.
“No! I mean yes but-“ Steve sighs and takes a deep breath, “Remember my dream school?”
“Of course.” How could you forget? He always talks about it, it’s a private high school in San Francisco that’s literally connected – for lack of better terms – with a college there. Basically, after you finish high school you already have a seat ready for you in the college, which is one of the best in the country.
“Well, I got offered a sports scholarship to go there!” Steve sounds so happy about that, are you a bad friend because you aren't happy for him? Are you selfish? Probably yes, because the only thing that you can think about right now is how he’s going to leave you alone.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” You can barely hear yourself now. Did he think that you would try and make him stay? Well…That’s what you want to do, but you don't want to be a shitty friend, you don't want Steve to abandon his dream for you. Because that’s the thing in your friendship: if you were to ask Steve to not go to San Francisco he would drop everything and stay with you.
“I wanted to tell you, really but…I didn’t know how to tell you without upsetting you.”
Translation: if you were upset you’d ask me to stay, I’d stay because I hate seeing you upset, but I don’t want to stay because this is my dream.
“I am upset, no point in lying, it’s just…I would’ve told you if I were in your place.” You sit down on the porch of Steve’s house.
“I know, I’m sorry…” Steve sits down next to you and, as always, you can’t bring yourself to stay mad at him.
“I already forgave you,” You smile softly as you shrug your shoulders, “so, when do you have to leave?”
“The day after tomorrow.” Now it’s Steve’s voice that’s a mere whisper. The day after tomorrow? And when was he planning on telling me? When he was already on the plane? God knows how much you want to tell him all your thoughts, but you have only a few hours left to spend together and you don't want to spend them fighting on not talking to each other.
“Then why are we sitting here?” You ask, standing up and holding out your hand towards your best friend, “Let’s spend as much time as we can together!”
Steve smiles up at you and grabs your hand, pulling himself up, “I like your plan.”
During the next day you two did everything you could think of: you skated together, had a sleepover, you even made bracelets for each other – the one Steve made for you said ‘Little star’ because that’s how he liked to call you, while the bracelet you made for him said ‘Stevie’.
“But will you come back during the holidays?” You ask, Steve stands next to his father’s car, Steve’s mom will drive her son and husband to the airport: Steve’s dad will stay with him for a few weeks until he’s gotten used to San Francisco, then Steve will move in his dorm at the school and his dad will come back.
“I promise.” Steve smiles down at you and throws his arms around your waist while you hug his neck, “take care, little star.”
“You too, Stevie, I’ll miss you.” You kiss his cheek and blink back the tears, you don’t want to cry right now, one of your last memories with Steve won’t be a sad one.
“I’ll miss you too.” And with that, Steve enters the car, before he could do something stupid like kissing you. Once in the car, though, he sees how sad you looked and he sighs, fuck it. He gets out of the car and hugs you again.
“I’ll miss you, Y/N, but I don’t want to leave with regrets.” Before you can ask him what he means he presses his lips on yours. It’s just a quick peck, an innocent kiss between thirteen years old, but you feel your heart explode. “I’ll become the best football player ever, I’ll make money and then we’ll go live together on a mountain, like you always wanted…Just, wait for me.”
You smile up at him and nod, “I’ll wait for you.”
Present day
Steve didn’t hold his promise. It was always his parents going to San Francisco for the holidays and never him coming back to Brooklyn. For three years you didn’t hear from each other, it may seem a short time for people that knew each other since birth but a lot can change in three years, even more than Steve ever thought was possible.
He gets out of the car, parking it in front of his childhood house: he was back in Brooklyn for his last year of high school.
“Y/N changed her house a lot.” He says towards his parents as he looks towards what used to be your childhood home, now a different color and without the front porch.
“Oh no, they don’t live there anymore.” His mom explains, “after Y/N’s mom died they moved into an apartment on the other side of the city.”
“What?” Steve feels like a cold water bucket has just been thrown over his head, “Y/N’s mom died?” She was young and healthy though.
“Yes, two years ago, she had a heart attack, Y/N asked us to not tell you.”
“Why?” His mom shrugs her shoulders, then puts a hand on Steve’s shoulder with a soft smile.
“It hasn’t been easy for her, but from what I know she goes to the same school you’ll go from tomorrow, try and talk to her.” She squeezes his shoulder, “You’re her best friend after all, aren’t you?”
Am I? Steve thinks, I wasn’t by her side when her mom died, I haven’t seen in three years…Are we really more than strangers?
Tumblr media
“Why are they all staring at me?” Steve asks Bucky, one of his childhood friends, as they walk in the hallways of Brooklyn’s high school.
“Because you’re the handsome new guy.” Bucky explains as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
“But I’m not actually new, I’m sure I went to middle school with at least fifteen people in this hallway.”
“But you’re not the same Steve Rogers that left three years ago, you look like a fucking closet man.” Bucky chuckles, but it’s the truth, Steve had gotten taller and very muscular in only three years.
“I guess you’re right.” Steve can’t help the smirk forming on his lips, he reaches his locker, before he can open it though he notices a girl standing on the locker next to his. That girl is you, but he recognizes you only after you close your locker. You look the same as three years ago and another completely different person at the same time. Obviously you are older, and that shows on your features, and you are even more beautiful than the last time he saw you.
“Y/N!” He says with a bright smile on his face, your eyes widen when you recognize him but quickly you look down and walk away, completely ignoring him.
“Don’t mind her, she hasn’t been the same since her mom died.” Bucky explains, “she doesn’t speak to anyone, is always late to school and never has money for lunch, I buy it for her sometimes but I’m not even sure if she actually eats it.”
“What happened to her?” Steve whispers as he looks at you entering your next class, which, coincidentally, is the one he has next too. He walks in the class and smiles when he sees that the seat next to you is free.
“Y/N, it’s me, Steve.” He says as he sits next to you. You could ignore him, look away, hell, even change seat, but hearing his voice so close after three years made your heart swell and clench at the same time. What is he doing here? You couldn’t help but ask yourself that, shouldn’t he be doing his last year in San Francisco? Did he change his mind?
“Yeah, I know, I’ve heard the whispers, everyone’s talking about you.” You shrug your shoulders, acting like the only thing you want to do isn’t throw yourself in his arms and feel some comfort for the first time in years.
“It’s the first time we see each other in three years and that’s the first thing you say to me?”
“And who’s fault is that?”
“Listen, I’m sorry for never coming back in Brooklyn during the last years but I’m here now can’t we just-”
“Class’s starting." You interrupt him and point at the teacher who just walked in the classroom. Steve scoffs but turns his attention to the teacher.
After a while he hands you a piece of paper with ‘you know I don’t give up easily’ written on it.
Soon you feel like you have another shadow, a shadow that’s taller and bigger than you. Steve follows you everywhere he can and he’s always trying to make you open up, trying to bring your friendship back.
“Are you going to follow me home too?” You snap at Steve when the last bell rings.
“Do you want me to? I haven't seen your new house yet.” He says, putting his backpack on one shoulder.
“And you never will.” You answer harshly, showing him the small and dirty apartment where you lived would be too embarrassing.
Steve shrugs your answer off, “You’re lucky I have practice today.” He’s on the school football team and they couldn’t be happier.
“Why did you come back from San Francisco?” You can’t help but ask, why would someone ever leave that place?
“Had a fight with a boy who was harassing a girl, turns out it was the principal’s son.” Steve shakes his head, “immediate expulsion.”
Why did his answer hurt? Were you hoping he’d say something like ‘I missed you’? How stupid of you, he didn’t even call in three years. You nod and turn away, walking towards your house. The same house that was barely a home, more like a prison. It wasn’t the outside of the building the problem, and not even the small apartment itself, the problem was the man who lived with you. Your father, at least, who he should be. To you, ever since your mother’s death, it felt like living with a stranger.
“Dad, I’m home.” You shout as you open the door to the apartment on the second floor. Silence. Silence is the only thing that you can hear, and you couldn’t be happier: silence means that he isn’t at home, which also means he’s probably out drinking and will come back in the evening highly drunk. But that will be a problem for future you, for now you lay on your bed, doing your homework. You even take a small nap.
Your small time in paradise ends as you’re cooking dinner and the door opens. Your dad walks inside, crawling his feet on the ground, with an empty bottle of beer in his hand.
“Oh, you’re cooking, I see you’ve learned your lesson.” At his words your mind flies to the bruise on your stomach, but you quickly shake your head.
“Yeah, I’m cooking some soup.” You close your eyes, breaching yourself for the storm that is about to come.
“Soup? You know I hate soup!” He says as he starts getting angry, which definitely isn’t a good thing.
“I noticed that soup was the only thing we had when it was too late to go to the store.” You admit, already feeling the pain of the hit when he didn’t even hit you, yet.
“Useless as always!” He shouts and throws the empty glass bottle of beer at your legs. You damn yourself in your mind for deciding to wear shorts when you feel the glass against your bare legs, leaving cuts behind. You don’t dare to flinch or even make a little sound, though, knowing that it would only make him more mad.
“I’m sorry…” You whisper as you place two plates of soup on the table, “I’ll go grocery shopping tomorrow.”
“You better, I’m not eating this shit.” Your father throws his plate with soup on the ground, breaking it in tiny little pieces. He’s worse than a toddler. You get up from your chair and start cleaning immediately, knowing that if you didn’t he would only get worse. You ignore the pain from the fresh cuts on your legs and pick the ceramic shatters from the ground, the soup on the ground wetting your slippers.
“I can’t cook anything else for you though…” You whisper, not even scared anymore, simply resigned and used to it.
You know that he could misunderstand every word you say.
You know he could hit you anytime.
You know you don’t have a choice but endure it till you’re done with high school.
You know you have to wait another nine months for that.
“You stupid bitch! Your mom would have never done this!” Your heart clenches at his words. How dare he talk about her, when he was the cause of her death?
“Don’t talk about her, you can’t.” You glare at him as you stand up, throwing the ceramic shatters you had just collected on the ground again.
“I can’t? And why can’t I?” He walks towards you, his big frame making you feel small and vulnerable, but not in a good way.
“You killed her!” You shout at him, tears starting to blur your vision, but you blink them back: you won’t cry in front of him. It’s basically telling him that you’re scared.
And you would never admit that.
“It wasn’t me who killed her, it was you! You killed your own mother!” You know that he’s trying to manipulate and gaslight you, but at the same time you have heard that sentence so much that you were starting to believe it.
Maybe if you were a better daughter she would still be alive.
Maybe if you were more independent she would still be with you.
Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.
Maybe your mother is happier now. Wherever she is now she doesn’t have to look after an incompetent man who can’t even cook for himself, she doesn’t have to stay up until sunrise to make sure he doesn’t come to your room when drunk.
Maybe it’s for her best that she’s dead now.
“NO! You killed her because she was always so busy looking after you that she barely had time to look after herself, she never had the time to even do a check up!” You shout at him, tears rolling down your cheeks freely. “She died because you wouldn’t even pick up your own nose from the ground-” You let out a banshee-level scream as you feel the ceramic sink into your shoulder.
He stabbed you with a piece of ceramic from the plate.
Your father.
Your daddy, the same man who played princess tea party with you when you were four. The same man who checked under your bed for monsters every night for years.
You almost laugh when you realize you can’t remember any happy memories with your dad after your tenth birthday.
Two weeks later.
Luckily, the nurses believed you when you told them that you were taking a plate from a high shelf and it fell and broke on your shoulder. Steve, on the other hand…
“Tell me what happened.” Steve says as he sits next to you inside the Colorful House in the park.
“You follow me outside of school too, now?” You say annoyed.
“This was your favorite place to hide when we were kids, I see it didn’t change.” There’s a sad smile on his face, then he turns to you, “I don’t believe that a plate fell on you, tell me the truth.”
“It is the truth.” You roll your eyes, he sighs and his eyes fall on your wrist.
“You aren’t wearing your bracelet anymore.” He notices for the first time, you hide your wrist with your other hand.
“It broke.” My dad broke it. “You aren’t wearing it either.”
“I was worried it would break so I transformed it into a necklace.” He pulls down the collar of his shirt, revealing the letters that you used to make his bracelet, ‘Stevie’.
“Oh.” It’s the only thing you can say as you try to ignore the feeling of butterflies in your stomach. Neither of you has spoken about what happened before he left, but it’s time to talk about the elephant in the room.
Or literally anything but your dad.
“You kissed me before leaving and then you never came back, you never even called!” You say.
“What? I called almost every day!” You look at him confused at his words, “I knew you didn’t have a phone so I called the only number I remembered: your father’s.”
“That explains a lot of things…” You look down at your feet, Steve had called your father and he never told you anything? Why?
“He told me you didn’t want to talk to me or that you weren’t home, after a while I think he blocked my number, I didn’t have any other way to contact you and I simply thought you…didn’t want to hear from me…”
You look at him with a sad look, “He never told me about your calls.”
“What? Why?”
“Who knows what goes on in his sick mind.” Without even realizing your hand goes to the injury on your shoulder, and that’s when Steve understands.
“It was him, he gave you that scar.”
You nod, your eyes filling with tear, “Stabbed me with a piece of ceramic from a broken plate”
“Y/N that’s sick! Why didn’t you feel the truth at the hospital? Or to a teacher or…or…or to me…” His voice gets quieter towards the end of the sentence.
You shrug your shoulders, “I only have to endure it another few months, then I’ll leave and never come back.”
“How long has this been going on?” Steve gently wraps an arm around your shoulders, careful on the scar, and pulls you towards his chest. You bury your face in his broad chest and finally let go, crying against him. When was the last time you felt free to cry? At your mother’s funeral probably.
“Since my mother’s death.” You look up at him, placing your chin on his chest, comforted by his hold and the look of his eyes you decide to tell him the whole truth. “She died of a heart attack, that’s true, but you know what caused the heart attack?” You take a deep breath, “Exhaustion, overworking, call it however you like but truth is she was like my father’s slave — your heart falls in pronouncing those words — he made her work so much that in the end her heart couldn’t take it anymore.”
“Oh, Y/N…” Steve places a hand on the back of your head and cradles your head against his chest, kissing your forehead.
“And now he’s doing the same to me, I have to do everything in the house and if I don’t…” You can’t even finish the sentence as your body shakes with sobs.
“I’ll get you out of there, I promise.” Steve continues repeating soothing words to your ear and kissing your hair, you slowly calm down and look up at him, feeling like a huge weight has been lifted off your chest.
“Thank you.” You say softly.
“No need to thank me, I would do anything for you.”
“So…” A grin forms on your face as you push any thought regarding your father away, “What about that kiss?”
Steve laughs, “Well, my offer to go live on a mountain is still up if you want.”
“Like, best friends living together?”
“What if I want us to be more than best friends?” His eyes fall on your lips.
“Then I’d tell you that I want the same.” You press your lips on his, it’s a gentle and soft kiss. Just like Steve.
“I love you, damn I’ve loved you since we were kids.” You smile at his words.
“I love you too.”
Months later
There are only a few days left until graduation, until you can finally leave the hell that was supposed to be your home.
“Hello Mrs. Rogers.” You greet Steve’s mom as she opens the door. Since you and Steve started dating your presence has become almost constant at house Rogers, just like when you were a kid.
“Oh Y/N, Steve’s in his room.” She greets you with a hug. “I’m so happy that you are his girlfriend, I always knew you two would end up together.” You smile and before she can start planning your wedding you run to Steve’s room where he’s sitting on the bed.
“I know that look, you need to tell me something.” You give him a peck on the lips as a greeting.
“Yes and it’s big happy news.”
“Tell me everything big boy.” You know he hates that nickname, and that’s exactly why you keep calling him that.
“I got a call from the coach of an important Football team, I’ll spare you the details because I know you understand nothing of Football, but…” he takes your hands in his, “They want me in the team! I’m going pro on one of the best teams in the U.S.!” It’s true, you understand nothing of football but the excitement in his face and tone is hard to resist.
“This is fantastic! I’m so happy for you!” You throw your arms around his neck and hug him tightly.
“I want you to come with me.” He says as he cups your face in his hands. “Come live with me, there’s a great college near where I’ll have to stay, you can study there! It isn’t a mountain but it’ll keep you away from your dad.”
Only now you notice that you’re both crying, and for the first time in years yours are happy tears.
“I would love that.”
“Really?!” He kisses you again and again, laying you down on the bed between your laughs.
“I can’t wait to see you at my games, you’ll come see them right?”
“I won’t miss a single one.” You smile as he kisses your jaw. “I’ll be your lucky charm.” You chuckle.
“You’re better than my lucky charm, you’re my little star, the light of my life.”
You kiss him with a smile. He keeps calling you his star, but little does he know that he’s the sun of your life.
Your savior, the man who will take you away from you father.
The man you love.

Passion and Plasmatic Plague
The first chapter is officially out!
I am excited to join the rest of my fellow creatives for Ecto-Implosion's posting week.
Many thanks to the incredible mods of @ecto-implosion for organizing this event. I had so much fun and have made so many new friends. This is the first time I've participated in a big fandom event. It's addictive, so I'm going to be joining more next year.
I was partnered with the incredible @emotigonecreative! Her piece is beyond inspiring, and you can find it here!
The update schedule for the story is every Saturday and Wednesday. There are 24 chapters, so expect to be fed all winter long! Summary:
Enmity, a supernatural plague, an irresistible connection. It's Sophomore year, and Danny Fenton was still on the bottom of the food chain in Casper High. His friends kept his counsel, and his family kept lecturing. They remained at arms' length, and all others a football field's distance. The one exception was Valerie Gray. Her words drew him closer, yet the Huntress' guns kept them apart. He needed to find a way to bridge the divide, and quickly, because an electronic plague burned through Amity Park, and they'd made a hasty alliance to put it out. Valerie's double life continued to vex her, her work as Huntress made more difficult by Phantom's interference. Then, stability came in the form of a mind-melding upgrade to her suit. It responds to her every whim, its power strengthening with every passing day. Serendipitous, because a ghost curse was spreading through town like ink through water, transforming every piece of technology into a potential adversary. Pulled between her hatred of ghosts and her growing affection for Phantom, she might just destroy her new partner, if her suit doesn't do it first.
You can find the full chapter here, but here's a preview if you're still not convinced:
The air basked in light and bird song, the world made anew in the heavy lidded eyes of the fading night. Rime dusted the ground and hoarfrost clung to the underside of freshly fallen leaves, making the whole world glitter and shine in the rosy dawn light. As the influence of Nox gave way to Aurora, she tucked her arms tighter against her body and slanted away from the touch of the wind’s chill. The sharp scuffle of her footfalls against the glistening concrete, newly citizen salted, cut through the press of silence that cocooned her on her solitary march to school.
Finally, ahead of her, the light of the school’s warm interior glinted off the frost on the front lawn, its glimmer called forth from the dying strands of grass still fighting the oncoming sleep of winter like a toddler rolling about to avoid a nap. She pulled loosened hair away from her face as a big gust snatched at her curls, clawing away the neat style she’d spent the morning designing. I should have worn a beanie. Sure, she’d have to take it off right after entering school—the No-Hats policy remained even in the cold—but at least her hair would be intact.
She stood off to the right of the entrance, just inside the double doors, and reached into her backpack to pull out a compact and her emergency brush. The other students brushed past her without comment, briefly sliding in and out of view on the edges of the mirror, as she carefully redid the style. Maybe more hairspray would have saved it? She’d consider it next time. The good stuff was expensive, and with her meager savings—
“Wow, did you fight a bear on the way here?”
“Is that what happened to you?” Valerie continued brushing her hair, eyes never leaving the mirror.
“Excuse me?”
“You know, on account of you wearing half an outfit in forty degree weather, Paulina.” She snapped the compact closed and slid it back into her bag. Even with the brief flash in the compact, she’d been able to see how much frostbite the other girl was risking. A bold, stupid choice, fitting for Casper’s Queen Bee.

that kind of devotion can't be ignored | Anarcia (5)
A/N: did not intend to drop this today but !! surprise! also happy birthday to my dog :) don't forget to check it out on ao3!
-
"So, long story short she broke up with me because I forgot to text her for like, 26 hours! That's not even that long!"
"Amethyst, that's like a whole ass day. It was also the 3rd time that week."
Amethyst rolled her eyes, sticking her tongue out at Robin. "So what! I said I was a bad texter! Everyone knows that!" She retorted, gathering the four mugs from the kitchen and carefully balancing them in her arms. She made her way to the living room, setting the mugs in front of the other three girls gathered in the living room.
"I don't know, I think I'm on Robin's side. If a girl didn't text me for 26 hours, I'd think she's ghosting me." Luxx added in, Amethyst rolling her eyes at the other girl dramatically.
"That's because you're on your phone all the time! Come on Marcia, you get what I'm saying, right?"
Marcia gave her a pity smile, sending the other two girls into a fit of laughter, Amethyst faked hurt as she dramatically collapsed onto the chair. "No one understands me!" She whined, "She still has my glitter pen...I miss it."
"You know, for someone whose job is to answer phones all day, you kind of suck at answering yours." Robin hummed, sipping on her drink. "But that was a month ago, you gotta move on girl. What about that bass player from Peacock's? Didn't you say she was hot?"
Robin worked as a designer alongside Luxx, the two first meeting when they interned for the brand together back in college. Her black curly hair was tied into a ponytail with two thin braids framing her face, dressed in a white, long-sleeve crop top and baggy cargo pants. Robin was the most put-together of the friend group, she was ambitious and knew what she wanted, something Marcia found very admirable about her.
"Yeah, she was hot, but she's fucking my ex, so like..." Amethyst shrugged in response.
Amethyst was another one of Luxx's coworkers, an aspiring popstar who worked as a secretary for the brand in the meantime. She and Robin had been friends since high school, so when Luxx and Robin bonded on their internships, the group of four seemed to naturally come together and have been inseparable since. Her curly blonde hair fell just past her shoulder, and her bright and eccentric Y2K style was evident from the apartment decor and her clothes- today, a bright orange sweater and a pair of cow print pants.
"That hasn't stopped you before." Luxx cut in, causing Amethyst to groan. "Seriously girl, you need to get laid."
"Oh please, you're one to talk." Amethyst retorted back, Luxx raising her eyebrow in confusion. "Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about! Robin and I agree you and Irene need to get it over with and just hate fuck already! Like oh my god!"
Marcia watched as Luxx's face changed from one of confusion to one of disgust in a near instant. She almost choked on her drink from surprise. "WHAT? You can't be serious. Irene?" She looked between the two girls, her tone dripping with disgust. "Robin, you can't be serious. I'd expect this from Amy, but not you!"
Robin shrugged as Luxx's eyes bore into her, "I think it would help your relationship. You two argue all the time, and I, for one, would like some peace and quiet around the office." She turned away from Luxx, who was rendered speechless from shock, to address Marcia, "Marsh, how much have you heard about Irene?"
Marcia paused for a moment, recounting all the times she'd heard of Irene. "Well, now that you mention it, Luxx you do talk about her almost every day-"
"MARSHALL!" Luxx interrupted, "I'm hurt! We argue all the time because she's insufferable, she's always making these little comments to rile me up!" Luxx briefly paused before she continued, "Let me be clear. I would not fuck her if she were the last person on this Earth. If she offered me a million dollars I wouldn't." Luxx flipped her hair behind her, crossing her arms as she huffed. Marcia giggled, ignoring the glare Luxx sent her.
"She told me she teases you because she likes to get a rise out of you," Amethyst chimed in, "I told her the same thing I told you, and she might have rolled her eyes at me, but she didn't say no!"
Luxx rolled her eyes and sighed, "Whatever, it's not happening in ten million years. Why are we so focused on me all of a sudden? What about you Robin? You have any exciting escapades lately?"
"Well," Robin hummed, sipping her drink, "I've met a very nice woman. But we're taking it slow, some nice classy dates, I wanna give it some time before we make it official."
Amethyst rolled her eyes, "She's lying. She's fucking whipped for Aura."
Luxx and Marcia both ooohed at the name drop, looking back towards Robin.
"How do you know her name? And I am not whipped, that's such a lie."
"Well, I met her when I was in the kitchen having a snack, it was midnight and you kicked the poor girl out. The second time it happened, I thought I should at least know her name if this was going to be a regular occurrence. Plus, you were baking her cupcakes a few days ago- you're down bad for her, you can't lie to me!"
Robin blushed, "Oh. Well, maybe we weren't as sneaky as I thought..."
"Aura's great though," Amethyst continued, "super strong, by the way. Like I think she's a bodybuilder or something. I made her move my giant mirror, you guys know the one, so she gets a pass in my book."
Marcia smiled, "Well that's great Robin! I'm happy for you, she sounds super sweet! We'll have to meet her sometime, preferably when Amy isn't using her for manual labor."
"Yeah, she sounds great, but..." Luxx smirked, "I have to ask...is she better than Amethyst?"
Amethyst and Robin both groaned, drowning out Luxx's cackling. "Oh my god, we dated for like two weeks when we were 14!" Amethyst huffed, playfully swatting at Luxx. "You'll never let us live that down, are you? I should have never told you." Robin rolled her eyes, sighing.
"Oh, come on Luxx- we've all had questionable crushes before!" Marcia laughed, growing a bit more nervous when Luxx shot her a mischievous smile.
"Oh, like the one you have on your 'one true soulmate', Lotus?"
Marcia's face burned bright red as Amy and Robin whipped their attention towards her. There was only a moment of silence before the other girls began to bombard her with questions, Luxx laughing the entire time. The girls continued to bombard her with questions, which caused her to blush more, which only amped up their energy.
"Guys, guys! Give her a chance to speak! She can't tell you about this mystery woman if you guys keep bombarding her."
Marcia sighed with relief as the two backed off, looking at her expectantly. She composed herself before she spoke, "Well, Luxx is being dramatic...I didn't say she was my 'one true soulmate', but-"
"Marshall that is such bullshit, you literally burst through the apartment telling me you had found the love of your life."
Marcia's face grew red, followed by laughter from Amethyst and Robin. "Okay, maybe I did. In my defense, I had a lot of adrenaline! But anyways, Lotus is this local superhero, she's super strong and sweet...she's also really hot."
"So how'd you guys meet? Come on, spill!" Amethyst prompted, bouncing her leg in excitement.
Marcia recounted the story to the two girls in front of her, from her attempted kidnapping to Lotus (literally) sweeping her off of her feet. Robin leaned back in her chair, "So you don't know her identity?" Marcia shook her head, "No...not yet at least. But we didn't meet that long ago, so it doesn't feel too important right now." Robin nodded.
"So how do you even talk to her? Do you send up, like, the bat signal when you want to talk to her?" Amethyst asked, Marcia rolled her eyes and laughed. "No, no, it's nothing like that. I have to message her friend whenever I want to see her. And yes, I already stalked through her entire social media and haven't seen anyone that looks like her."
Amethyst hummed, "I don't know, I need to see her. Getting involved with a superhero can be dangerous, if you're putting your life on the line she better be smoking hot." Robin nodded along, "I agree, especially if she's the "love of your life"." Marcia groaned but obliged, scrolling through her phone to find the one decent picture she had of Lotus.
She passed it over to the girls, "So, this is from a few years ago, she looks a bit different...maybe I can take a photo with her." She suggested, watching in anticipation as Robin and Amethyst scanned the photo. Amethyst slowly nodded, "Alright...she's hot, I mean look at those muscles." Marcia blushed, "Well, I'm glad I have your approval. I think you guys would really like her."
"Just try not to get caught up in too much trouble, promise?"
"I promise, Robin."
-
A few days later, Marcia trudged into the apartment much like she had the past few days. Exhausted, she collapsed onto the couch. Luxx leaned over the couch, "Rough rehearsal?" Marcia groaned in reply, "Yeah...it was a really choreography-heavy rehearsal...my legs are so sore." Luxx hummed in understanding, "Well lucky for you, your best friend in the whole entire world made you pasta. So come on, get up!" She patted Marcia's shoulder, the blonde slowly rising.
Once they had sat down at the counter, Marcia recounted the trials and tribulations of her day to Luxx, who in turn did the same. "Have you seen Lotus recently?" Luxx casually threw in, making Marcia stop mid-pasta bite. She paused, her brain groggily trying to remember the last time she spoke to Lotus. "Oh god...no, I haven't spoken to her in like...a week. I've been so busy with rehearsal." Her mind raced- does Lotus think she doesn't like her anymore? She chided herself for her ignorance, burying her face in her hands.
"Why don't you just ask to meet her and explain what happened?" Luxx suggested, "I'm sure she'd understand. I mean, Broadway is a big deal after all." Marcia nodded, temporarily reassured. After she had cleared the dishes, she shot Sasha a text asking to meet with Lotus. By the time she was about to go to sleep, she still hadn't gotten a text back.
She lay surrounded by the darkness, staring up at the ceiling. What if Lotus hated her? Didn't want to see her anymore? She tossed and turned, trying to rid her mind of these thoughts. She huffed, trying to push the thoughts to the back of her mind. She knew she was worrying too much, Luxx would tell her as much- but she couldn't stop overthinking. Soon enough though, exhaustion took over and whisked her off to sleep.
-
The blaring of her alarm jolted Marcia out of her sleep, fumbling with her phone to turn it off. She tried to stifle a yawn as she looked at her notifications, one in particular sticking out to her.
'Sasha Colby: Lotus said she'll be there ;)'
She felt relief instantly flood through her body, a sigh of relief escaping her lips. With that, she could go about her day a little easier. She found her day seemed to pass by faster as she waited for that evening. Even rehearsal seemed to be a bit easier- although she still found herself exhausted after.
She soon found herself back at her apartment, fussing over her hair as she put the finishing touches on her outfit. She glanced at the clock, quickly shrugging on her jacket and lacing up her shoes as she headed for the door. She gave a quick goodbye to Luxx before heading out onto the bustling street.
Marcia arrived at their meeting spot, the building beside the alleyway she was almost kind of kidnapped in. She had mixed feelings about it, to say the least- they should probably meet somewhere else, but she pushed those thoughts to the side. She fiddled with her headband as she eagerly waited and watched for the girl.
"Hi, doll."
Marcia jumped as Lotus' voice appeared behind her, "Why do you always do that?! Gosh, you're going to give me a heart attack one of these days!" Lotus laughed as Marcia pouted at her, "I'm serious!"
"Oh c'mon, don't make that face! I think it's only fair considering you've been ignoring me." Lotus teased, leaning against the wall.
Marcia flushed, "I'm sorry about that- I've been so busy with rehearsals, I just lost track of time. I swear I meant to talk to you earlier."
"Don't apologize, I figured it was something like that. I just wanted to tease you, you're cute when you're flustered."
Marcia felt her face go red as she struggled to form a reply, all while Lotus giggled at her reaction. Lotus spoke up instead, "Why don't you tell me all about rehearsals? You're doing that one show, the one about the blonde girl, right? Is it Mean Girls?"
"Legally Blonde, but you were close! Are you sure you don't mind? I can go kind of," Marcia paused, "well, kind of overboard when it comes to theatre."
"No, I don't mind at all! I want to hear about the things you're passionate about."
Marcia couldn't hide the smile creeping onto her face as she launched into the show's details- how rehearsal was going, trying on costumes, and the dreaded upcoming tech week. Lotus sat intently listening the whole time, nodding her head along and smiling at Marcia's grand gestures. She was talking about the new blocking they had received for the next number when Lotus interrupted.
"Wait, why do you have to learn two versions?"
"Because I'm Elle's, the lead, understudy. I basically have to learn her choreography and the ensembles just in case our Elle can't go on."
Lotus was silent for a moment, processing what Marcia had just told her.
"So you have to like...learn double of everything?"
Marcia nodded.
"That's fucking impressive. Seriously, I mean...wow."
Marcia beamed brightly at the compliment, "Thanks! You should come see the show, uh, if you want to that is."
"Wouldn't miss it for the world, doll."
The butterflies in her stomach erupted, leaving her speechless and her face bright red. Lotus smirked at her state, which Marcia rolled her eyes at.
"Oh!" Lotus gasped as if she just remembered something, "I want to show you something. Um, if you want to. You don't have to, I get it-"
"Are you kidding? I'd love to!"
Lotus grinned and lifted Marcia into her arms before taking off into the sky. She wrapped her arms around Lotus' neck, cheering as they took off through the sky. They weren't in the sky for long, as they touched down on top of the Manhattan bridge. Lotus held Marcia steady as she set her feet down, laughing nervously at the height.
The wind whipped her hair as she looked down, the cars looking like tiny dots passing below them. She clutched onto Lotus without even thinking about it, who wrapped her arm around her waist.
"This...this is pretty cool." Marcia exhaled, laughing again in disbelief.
"That's not even the best part- look."
Lotus guided Marcia's face with her hand to look towards the sky- a beautiful pink and orange as the sun began to set. Marcia's eyes shone as she took it all in, gasping at its beauty. She couldn't remember how long it had been since she had seen a sunset, or at least one with such a beautiful view like this.
They stood there, together, until the sun had set and the sky was purple.
"Pretty cool, right?"
Marcia nodded, "You know how to impress a girl."
Lotus smirked, very proud of herself. "I used to hang out here and watch the sunset all the time before my shifts. Gave me time to clear my head and focus on the positive. I'm glad I got to share it with you."
Marcia softened, leaning closer into Lotus. "I'm glad you did too."
Lotus rested her head on top of Marcia's, staying like that for a minute before she spoke again.
"I should get you back, I have to go on patrol soon..."
"Do you have to?"
"Unfortunately, yes. Quit pouting, you're gonna make me feel worse!" She laughed, playfully squeezing Marcia who giggled in return.
"Wait! We should take a photo to remember this!" She suggested, eagerly pulling out her phone.
"You're just trying to rope me into spending more time with you!" Lotus teased, yet she still leaned into Marcia and posed for the photo, throwing up a pair of bunny ears behind Marcia's hair.
The camera flashed, capturing this small moment in time. Marcia sighed as she took in the tranquility of it all. She wished the moment could last forever, just the two of them. But it couldn't, not for the moment anyway.
"Will you bring me back sometime?"
"I will. I promise."
-
Marcia drifted off to sleep that night thinking of the bridge, the sunset, and Lotus. She felt like she was on cloud nine, the photo they had taken now set as her home screen. Luxx teased her for it and called her a sap, and maybe she was, but it made her heart flutter every time she looked at it. She felt on top of the world as she fell asleep that night.
