⟢ frat boy!james potter x fem!reader ⟢ a guy makes unwanted advances on you at a frat party, and the president comes to your aid ⊹ 3.0k ⟢ warnings/tags: alcohol, unwanted advances + touching and sexist comments from another character, james gets aggressive confronting said character, american!james hehehe (not that it's explicitly stated)
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
By your third visit to the crowded, beer-scented kitchen, your features have set into a deep scowl. You groan, slumping against the wallonly to immediately push yourself off, unwilling to let the exposed skin of your back come into contact with any part of the frat house you're in. Was the wall sticky, or have you started sweating from the heat of all the drunk bodies around you? Either option makes you cringe.
Tonight was supposed to be fun. Frat parties weren’t exactly your ideal night out, but your best friend had dragged you to this one with the promise of a fun time. But your night has quickly turned into a wild goose chase after she disappeared with some guy.
"Are you okay?" a voice calls from your left, barely audible over the music that's starting to make your head pound. You realize that you had started pinching the bridge of your nose. When you lower your hand and turn your head, you find a pair of kind eyes staring down at you.
He introduces himself as Todd after you explain that you've been looking for your friend for half an hour to no avail. With a sympathetic smile, he offers to help, which you gratefully accept. Anything to find your friend and put this dreadful night to an end.
"Are you, like, one of the brothers?" you ask, noticing the letters on Todd's cap as you follow him through the house, but it's a little too dark to make them out. Not to mention, you don't really remember which fraternity your friend even brought you to tonight.
"Nah," Todd shouts over his shoulder. "Not here." He doesn't provide any more information than that as he changes the subject, suggesting the two of you search the backyard.
"I thought the yard was off limits,” you shout as you speed walk to catch up with him. He’s walking so fast that you barely have time to consider why he would think your friend would be outside.
Stepping into the cold, he explains, "Apparently their neighbors complained about the noise last weekend, so they're trying to keep the party inside. But a couple of quiet people shouldn't be an issue. It's nice to be away from all the noise, eh?"
You shudder when the night air hits you, hugging your arms around yourself tightly and attempting to smooth away the goosebumps already prickling on your skin.
"Maybe if it wasn't freezing."
You look around at the back yard, finding it completely empty except for a thin layer of fallen leaves and scattered beer bottles hidden in the uncut grass. Todd is leading you straight across the lawn, farther away from the house and any source of light. You’re starting to get a weird feeling about this—and Todd—so you slow to a stop while he continues to head deeper into the darkness.
"Hey, I don't think my friend is gonna be out here. I'm gonna keep looking inside–"
"What's the rush?" Todd's demeanor changes when he notices you’re falling behind. He quickly closes the distance between the two of you again in two strides.
You release a dry laugh, realizing that you've been too trusting, and your tone turns serious. "I should really find my friend."
"You said she was with a guy, right? C'mon just let her have her fun." Todd drops his voice an octave, trying to sound seductive, but it comes across embarrassingly forced. "Maybe we can have some fun too."
When he reaches to touch the side of your face, your mood starts to change from a little let down and slightly annoyed to seriously pissed off.
"Don't," you say coldly, jerking your head away from his touch.
"Aw, c'mon," he continues to try to coax you, still somehow thinking he has a chance at convincing you. When his fingers graze your sides, you shout at him to keep his hands off, but instead, he slides them to your waist, holding you firmly.
"Let go!" you demand, planting you hands firmly on his shoulders and pushing. He chuckles at your feeble attempts, making you angrier, so you switch tactics. You wrap your hands around his wrists and pry his hands off, applying a pressure to the inside of his wrists that makes him release you with a hiss.
There's an angry voice in the distance shouting "Hey!" presumably at the two of you. You hear the steady sound of footsteps growing louder—one of the brothers probably coming to yell at you for sneaking into their backyard. You're a little too busy to care as you stomp away from Todd.
Todd doesn’t seem to notice the newcomer either. Too absorbed in the sting of your rejection, he starts getting angry too.
"Don't be such a prude," he snaps. He catches your wrist and pulls you back to him with a swift tug, spinning you around to face him. You draw your free arm back, using the extra momentum from the spin to your advantage as you punch him squarely in the jaw.
The punch throws him off balance, sending him stumbling back. His foot catches on an empty beer bottle, twisting his ankle as he loses his footing and crashes onto the grass with a heavy thud.
You stand above him, a little stunned at your actions. Todd is whining pathetically about the pain from the punch to his face, and the pain from the fall to his ass.
Someone jogs up beside you, and you can feel their gaze darting back and forth between you and Todd.
"Nice punch," he says, a little out of breath.
"Thanks," you reply flatly, only now starting to process that you—with the help of a beer bottle—sent this man tumbling to the ground.
"Alright," the mystery man says like he's about to get to work. He steps into your line of sight, looming over Todd for a moment.
He has a mop of dark curls spilling out from under a red baseball cap sitting backwards on his head. The cap matches his letterman-style jacket, which clings to his broad frame, drawing attention to his muscular body. Under different circumstances, this is a view you’d appreciate.
He bends down and grabs Todd by the collar of his shirt, roughly pulling him to his feet. Even with both of them standing, he still towers over him.
"Hey, man. What's up?" he asks Todd, his casual words contrasting with his abrasive tone.
"That slut just punched me!" Todd shrieks.
You roll your eyes. How pathetic.
He tightens his grip on Todd's shirt collar, using it to shake him roughly. "Watch your fucking mouth or I'll be the next," he threatens, and Todd goes quiet.
Your eyes widen at his sudden sharpness. Almost involuntary, you shift your position, angling yourself to get a clear look at the boy’s face. Black rimmed glasses sit lazily on the bridge of his nose, under his furrowed brow as he glares daggers at Todd. His eyes are big and brown, almost seeming out of place against the hard scowl carved into his features.
"Here's what's gonna happen," he continues. "First, you’re blacklisted. You’re never stepping foot in my house again. And what's this?"
He plucks Todd's hat off his head, inspecting the letters with a scoff before tossing it to the ground. "Of course. I'm sure nationals will be happy to hear about how you've conducted yourself tonight."
Todd's eye twitches at the threat. "Let's not pretend I was doing anything she didn’t want. Look at the way she’s dressed—flaunting herself, just begging for attention."
"What did you just say?" he seethes.
"James, c'mon," Todd says, revealing the name of the taller boy. He speaks with a nonchalance that makes James' nostrils flare, angered by his dismissiveness of the situation.
You begin to wonder how they know each other when James sets him straight.
"Who the hell do you think you're talking to? My friends call me James, you don't get to call me shit. The fuck do you think this is, man? I catch you in my backyard putting your hands on a girl who clearly doesn't want anything to do with you and you think you can talk to me like we're friends? I don't even know who the hell you are."
Your eyes must be bulging out of your head by now. It feels like you’ve been dropped into a scene from a movie—an exposé on the dark side of greek life, or maybe the mafia. Not knowing much about either, it’s hard to say, but the backward hats and pounding music from the house quickly remind you of where you are.
James lowers his voice, his tone dipping into something almost menacing. "But I’ll find out from your brothers, and when I do, you’re finished here. Done. Now come on."
Todd flinches as one of James' hands clasps over the back of his neck with a sharp smack. There were some other guys you hadn't noticed before back near the house, to whom James hands Todd over.
Once James notices that you're still standing in the middle of the yard, he jogs back over. On his way, he takes off his hat, running his fingers through his hair to loosen his curls.
"Hey," he says in a soft voice, vastly different from the one he used on Todd. "Are you okay?"
The change in his demeanor catches you off guard. You exhale while you collect your thoughts, a steamy white cloud filling the space as your warm breath meets cool air.
"That was intense," you say. You don’t mean to dodge his question, but he did just switch from mafia boss levels of threatening to sunshine and rainbows.
James breathes out a laugh. "Sorry about that. Gotta be a hardass with some of these dicks, especially ones like that. Part of the job."
You raise an eyebrow, curiosity piqued, wondering what job he's talking about.
James reads your expression, and stands up a little straighter as he introduces himself. "President James, at your service." With an exaggerated wink, he tugs at the edge of his jacket, pulling it taut to show off the letters sewn over his chest.
You nod in understanding. "Well, thank you for stepping in, Mr. President," you say, a slight tease coloring your tone.
A smile like sunshine overtakes his lips. "No need to thank me, really. Anyway, you handled it pretty well before I got here. That was some punch—is your hand alright?"
You had forgotten about that. Splaying your fingers out in front of you, you inspect your knuckles. "Mhm. Fine. I don't think I can feel my limbs anyway." You wrap your arms back around yourself, the cold become almost unbearable in your tank top.
"Shit, yeah, it's cold out here, isn't it?" James holds his hat between his teeth, freeing his hands as he strips off his jacket. Your eyes linger on his toned arms for a moment too long, and suddenly his hat has made its way back onto his head and he's holding his jacket out for you.
"May I?" he asks.
As much as you want to say no, you truly are freezing, so you let yourself be draped in his warmth and the scent of his cologne. The fabric has an unexpected weight to it, almost offering a comfort similar to an embrace.
James rubs his hands up and down over newly blanketed arms to encourage some warmth into them. James studies your face with softened eyes, his tone taking on a more serious note.
"Hey, listen... I'm really sorry that happened to you. Everything he said, and did–"
"It's alright," you interrupt.
"It's not. That shouldn't be happening. Not at my house—not anywhere. I'm really sorry you had to deal with that creep. And if you wanted to take it to the school, I'd be more than willing to–"
"No, no. That's more trouble than he's worth."
James nods, respecting your decision. "For what it's worth, I'm gonna make sure he won't be allowed in any of the parties around here anymore. I doubt I can get him completely blackballed, but I'll do what I can."
You offer James a small smile in response. You're glad to hear that, really, but now that Todd's gone and that's all over, your main concern is finding your friend and getting the hell out of here.
"Why don't you let me give you a ride home?" he offers, almost like he can read your mind. His kind, brown eyes almost make you want to say yes. But after the night you've had, you owe it to yourself to be a little less trusting.
"I don't know." You bite the inside of your cheek while you decide if you should disclose your current dilemma. James does seem eager to help. Deciding to tell him, you say, "I was looking for my friend."
James is quick to offer his assistance. "Who's your friend? Maybe I can help."
You tell him your friends name and recount what she was doing when you saw her last. "She ran off with this guy. Long black hair, leather jacket, I think I heard his name but it was something... unique."
James sucks in a breath through his teeth. "Sounds like Sirius."
"Sirius, yes! That was his name." You're momentarily excited, thinking that James could actually help, but the look on his face squashes the feeling promptly.
"Yeah, uh," James scratches the back of his neck awkwardly, "Sirius left with a girl like an hour ago. About yay high," he holds his hand out to your friend's height. "Tan. Brown hair."
You sigh. Some best friend you have. Here you are, searching for her endlessly, and she's ditched you at the party she brought you to.
"She was your ride, I’m guessing?" The corner of James' lip quirks up in a sorry half-smile as you nod. "It really is no trouble for me to drive you home."
You tap your foot on the ground anxiously. You're really wanting to just accept his offer. He seems nice enough, but there's still a little voice in the back of your mind telling you to be careful.
"I just... I don't really know you."
"Understandable," James starts. "But... you kinda do. I'm pretty sure we have chem together."
"I don't think so." You think you’d remember a muscly, likely rambunctious, frat boy in your boring chem class.
"Okay, I was playing it cool,” James’ teeth graze his lower lip in a bashful manner. “I know we have Chem together—with Professor Brown? Tuesdays and Thursdays. You sit in the front row. Y/N, right?" James looks a little sheepish as he recalls your name.
You nod slowly, really looking at James for the first time, trying to place him. Then it hits you—you do remember him. He sits a few seats down from you in chem, always rigorously taking notes and asking questions you wouldn’t have thought of (but are glad to have the answers to). Seeing him like this, though, is such a contrast to the smart guy from class that you didn’t even recognize him at first.
You feel a heat creep up the back of your neck. You’ve only ever spared him a few glances, but you’ve always thought the smart guy from chem was pretty cute.
"Oh. Oh, right. I–I'm sorry I didn't recognize you. You're James Potter." You try the name on your lips, realizing the name didn't click because you had only ever heard your professor call him by his last name.
"That's me," he grins. "And don't worry about it."
You give him a nod, a bit awkwardly. He seems like a good guy, but you’re still not sure if you want to get in his car. "Well, James, I should probably just call an Uber or something anyway. I don't know if you've been drinking or anything so..."
"Oh!" James holds up a finger, stuffing his other hand into his pocket and pulling out a black rectangle. You mistake it for one of those big, clunky box vapes and almost want to roll your eyes. But then, James surprises you by blowing into it instead of breathing in.
The device beeps, and he shows you the little digital screen, previously hidden behind his hand, that reads "0.00" over a glowing green background.
"Haven't had a drop," he confirms. "I haven't smoked or anything else, either. Not my thing."
"Why do you own a breathalyzer?" you ask, a little dumbfounded.
"So I can breathalyze people," he shrugs, fiddling with the device—tossing it a few inches up in the air and catching it.
You raise your eyebrows at him, not satisfied with his non-answer.
“Sorry,” James chuckles at himself. "Uh, I have a lot of people leaving my parties trying to tell me they're sober enough to drive. I got loads of these ‘cause they can't argue with the numbers... as much as they might try to."
"Where did you even get that?" you ask. You can't imagine there's a very big market for personal breathalyzers.
"You can get almost anything with Prime delivery!" he says it like he's proud as he tucks it back into his pocket. "Hey, you want one? I've got a drawer full back in the house." He points with his thumb over his shoulder.
You laugh, shaking your head at his offer. James laughs along with you, his lips curling into a boyish grin.
Well, if you’re going to put your trust in anyone else tonight it, it might as well be the smart boy from chem who takes safety seriously enough to own multiple breathalyzers.
You start walking towards the house. When you don’t hear a set of footsteps following behind, you call over your shoulder, "Come on."
James catches up quickly, happy to be invited to join you. "Where are we going?"
"To your car so you can give me a ride home."
From the corner of your eye, you watch his face break out into a wide grin. And from there on out, there's an extra pep in his step as he leads you to his car.
When you're safe and sound, back in the comfort of your own room, you flop onto your bed with a dreamy look on your face. You hug the jacket closer to your body, thankful for the excuse to talk to him in chem on Tuesday. Little did you know, he let you keep the jacket so that you'd have one.

since people hate american marauders, fuck you, they’re now all from various states and most of them are involved in greek life in some way shape or form
barty says he’s from nyc but he’s a fucking liar. he is from an even richer even more pretentious part of upstate new york but one person assumed the city when he said he was from new york and he decided that was cooler and rolled with it. in a frat mostly to piss off his dad, always drunk or on something, still has a 4.0
dorcas is ACTUALLY from nyc. she’s majoring in polisci but is minoring in fashion cause it’s fun and she’s good at it
marlene is from a tiny town in tennessee, very conservative, VERY christian, really comes into herself at college although there is a LOT of religious trauma to work through
mary is from south carolina, she’s very much like a southern belle, make sweet tea that will rot your teeth type, 1000% in a sorority. she’s studying english or education and minoring in art, probably painting focused but she won’t be an art teacher
james is THE frat bro, like his dad and his dad’s dad and his dad’s dad’s dad were in this frat. he will be president eventually but for his freshman/sophmore years frank was president (james has a bit of a crush on him and did not realize) he’s studying sports medicine or social work and plays soccer
the black brothers are from massachusetts they went to some disgustingly expensive private schools, different schools though, either because sirius became awful after going to boarding school or because of trans!reg, your choice.
sirius joined the same frat as james, it’s the rival frat to his father’s so there’s some shit there. he isn’t on the soccer team because soccer wasn’t “sophisticated enough” for the blacks (he can fence and ski like a motherfucker though) but he does play soccer recreationally
regulus is studying law or finance or business or something equally awful because his parents made him, it’s soul crushing and he hates it but he is really good at it (as he is everything) he wants to study philosophy and will eventually switch when he gets out from under his parents thumb
lily and snape are from new england, i can’t think of like a specific place but it’s smaller and poorer, lily would be in an academic sorority but snape has a vendetta against greek life (cause he didn’t get any bids) and has also made lily very against it (hence her hatred for the marauders) her issues with petunia stem from pet not getting into the college, asking lily to stay behind with her, and lily just needing to get out of that small town
everyone loves texas remus but may i offer you like farm kid montana remus, his family has enough land and he was always busy enough that he never really got to interact with kids his age, maybe an accident with an animal that gave him his scars. he goes to college and joins a frat because growing up almost completely alone, that idea of unwavering brotherhood really appeals to him. he’s studying classics (shocker) which causes some fights with his dad who wanted him to do something more agricultural
peter is from illinois, it was a big deal for him to move out out state for college and join a frat since no body really expected anything from his life. he’s studying math. i think his storyline would kind of be like california by chappell roan, he really wanted the city to work out but it’s just not and he wants to go home. the city brings out the worst in him and he ends up becoming the worst version of himself to try and be liked
evan and pandora are from florida but moved all over because of their dad’s business. pandora is studying art (duh) with a minor in philosophy which is how she meets reg. evan is studying engineering, i’m thinking mechanical but i’m not too sure

wc: 1.3k
a/n: I KNOW ITS TECHNICALLY SATURDAY IM SORRY
YOU HAD BEEN SHOVED INTO A CLOSET at a loud, booming party.
“Why me?” You thought, your whole body shaking due to the possibility of someone walking into closet with you.
Just as you faced away from the door, the door bursted open, and clicked shut rather loudly.
“H-Hello?” You mumbled, turning around quickly as a hand met your shoulder.
“Please be Remus, Please be Remus..”
“Hello, Y/N.”
Shit.
“Gilderoy? You weren’t even—“
“Shh, darling. It’s fine.” He smirked disgustingly.
“I just wanted to come in here and formally apologize for being honest about my thoughts about you.” He started, and you shrunk beneath him in discomfort.
“You know— I would really be interested in you if you weren’t ‘american’” He mocked, patting your head degradingly.
“I don’t want you to be interested in me.” You tried, but Gilderoy didn’t seem to take the hint and back off.
“Ugh, you and every other girl. Always playing hard to get.” He waved his hand casually, before backing you up into the wall.
“How did you get in here?” You asked breathlessly, practically feeling the anxiety bubble up inside of you.
“Everyone’s eyes are closed out there, darling. They don’t know who went in.” He whispered sensually in your ear, before groping your chest sexually.
You didn’t know what else to do, so the second his leg shoved its way in between yours… you screamed.
Looking back, it was quite comical.
it was the first thing that came to your mind, and everyone heard it too.
REMUS HAD EVERY INTENTION OF FOLLOWING you into the closet.
But when he heard the door click— he knew he was too late.
He stressed himself out over who was in there with you, and his suspicions were shown as correct when he heard your scream.
Everyone’s eyes flicked open, then Remus and Sirius immediately stood up to “rescue” you.
“What the fuck do you think you’re playing at, Lockhart?” Sirius barked, causing Gilderoy to spin around.
“I— Black..” Legend has it— that Sirius was the only person Gilderoy was truly afraid of.
“Get your bloody arse away from her!” Sirius shouted back, before stepping into the closet and all but throwing him out.
You stood there— petrified, and Remus felt so horrible for you.
You were dragged into this, and the worst imaginable could’ve happened and almost did.
“Y/n..” Remus mused your name like a god, and walked towards you gingerly.
“Are you alright?” He knew it was a stupid question, but he might as well have asked.
“Y-yeah.” You whimpered, before involuntarily breaking down in tears.
Remus instantly wrapped his arms around you, and the world went quiet for the both of you.
“Shh.. shh, it’s alright, dove.” He cooed softly, rocking you side to side gently.
“I-I’m sorry—“ You choked out, and his heart broke.
Now— what you didn’t know, was that Remus had barely ever voluntarily hugged someone throughout his years at Hogwarts.
So Lily was staring your direction, and so was James.
“Has he ever done that before?” James asked Lily, as Sirius took all of his anger out in the form of words onto Gilderoy.
“Never, only awkward side hugs.” She shrugged, as James began to usher people away from the area.
“REMUS?” YOU STARTED, shifting to face him on the dock.
“Yes, dove?” He responded calmly.
“Lily told me that you had never hugged anyone like that, atleast— not to their knowledge.”
“Well— She’s not… wrong.” He started, his cheekbones becoming lightly dusted by pink blush.
“I don’t do hugs, usually.” Remus admitted.
“It’s alright, some people don’t like them.” You replied, with a soft smile.
“…I’ve only seen you hug me, so… I was a bit curious.” You shrugged, your teeth grazing your bottom lip gently.
“As I said, I don’t really do hugs. I mean— I’ll hug someone if they initiate it but— not out of the blue.” He responded.
“Thank you for helping me, I couldn’t think of any other way to get out then… well, scream.” You laughed shortly.
“You should really be thanking Sirius.” He brushed your compliment off.
“No, i’m thanking you.”
“Sirius beat the guy up—“
“But you comforted me, you came to me.” You stated surely.
Remus stayed quiet, as if he was trying to speak but no words were coming out.
“Do you see the difference? Sure, Sirius helped take care of the problem— but you helped me.” You insisted, and Remus’ eyes met yours once more.
“Y-You’re welcome, I guess.”
Remus wasn’t a touchy-feely person, he never had been.
He always found the world to be mundane, as many of his peers found love— he found solitude in books and his studies.
Not that he didn’t want to love— he was scared too.
Not scared to get his heart broken, scared about what he was.
He had convinced himself that he was an unloveable monster, that he was never going to be loved.
Nobody had ever told him that.
But he had always believed it to be true.
So throughout his school years, he had single-handedly turned down every single date, every single hangout, and every single opportunity.
Remus wasn’t an optimist, he was quite the opposite.
But you made him feel something he had never felt before.
It was weird, you made him feel… sunny.
But was he really ready to be loved?
Your smile after he said “You’re welcome.” light up his world and told him that maybe, just maybe, he could be loved.
“Remus?”
“Yes?”
“Have you ever kissed anyone, Remus?”
“U—Um, yeah.” He answered, surprised.
“Who was it?” You asked excitedly.
“It was years ago, and— it wasn’t very enjoyable.” He laughed, and you laughed with him.
He always wanted to make you laugh.
“Yeah, whatever. Who?” You urged.
“First time it was just some girl in third year, and I didn’t initiate it. And the rest are just drunken blurs— really.” You giggled at his response.
“I’ve never kissed anyone.”
“Really? A pretty girl, like you?” He asked, his brow quirked.
“Nope, at Ilvermorny— we weren’t allowed to be “romantically involved” with one other. So— we never tired.” You shrugged, as he moved closer.
“But— I guess that whole thing with Gilderoy really made me realize that I didn’t want my first kiss to be forced or with someone I don’t trust.”
“A valid thing to want.”
“I trust you, Remus.” He was silenced again, before you filled the gap between the both of you.
“Can I kiss you— Remus?” You asked nervously.
…
“I—I don’t want to force you to do anything—“
“Why do you want to kiss me? Out of everyone?” He moved himself back a bit, and you frowned softly.
“I— I don’t want to kiss anyone else right now…” You admitted shyly.
“You don’t want to kiss Sirius?” He cocked his head.
“I— no I don’t want to kiss him! I’m asking you!”
“Y/n, you don’t want to kiss me.” He argued.
“Says who?” You fought back.
“The universe!” He flung his arms out.
“Remus—“
“Y/n, you don’t want to kiss me.”
“But—“
“Y/n, i’m not the kind of guy you want! Trust me.” He reassured.
“Oh, yeah? And who decided that?”
“Me!”
“If you don’t like me, Remus. You can just say it.”
“N-No! I do like you, Y/n— I’m just protecting you!”
“Protecting me from what?”
“Myself!”
“Why?”
“ ‘Cause i’m a bloody Werewolf, okay?”
Once Remus had realized what he said— silence fell upon both of you.
“Remus..—“
“I have to go.” Remus stood up, quickly.
“No— please— Remus—“ You tried, standing up and following him.
“I’m dangerous, Y/n. And if you’re smart, you’ll never speak to me again.”
Remus misspoke, he knew that immediately as he continued to walk away from the Boathouse on the Black Lake.
His words hit like a bullet into your heart, how did that go so wrong?

James potter with American girlfriend headcannons

✿: James loves to mock your accent, and unsurprisingly it’s very good (and hot) when he does it.
✿:his friends are surprisingly very accepting of you, you fit right in with the brains, wit, and mischief
✿: sometimes you’ll be ranting about something and James will pause you in the middle of your rant and ask you to repeat a word because “it’s not how you say it”
✿: he likes when you style his hair, even when you tell him that he should leave it natural and curly he denies before begging you to style it for him
✿: he raids your trunk to find the music you bought from home because “you have all the good stuff” which boosts your ego
✿: he liked your food, cooking is one of your best talents and he doesn’t waste a chance to let you show it off.
✿: he is confused about American fashion, he doesn’t understand why everyone is so colorfully dressed, even if it’s not particularly your style he still asks you why people do it.
✿: James likes when your read to him, especially when it’s a romance book, because to him American English is the love accent, even though to you English English is what you imagine the characters talk like.
✿: he likes that his accent rubs off on you, like sometimes you’ll accidentally slip into a slight English accent and it makes his heart soar, he doesn’t say anything because he knows you’ll try your hardest to talk normally.
✿: he tries to help you adjust to the English weather, though it is much sunnier in Hogwarts than anywhere else in England it’s still not nearly as sunny as America and when it rains for days on end your body has literal withdrawals from the sun.

✿: James loves your “American wit” he loves to listen to you bicker with Sirius and know that you can out wit him easily.
✿: he hates and loves when you start making girl friends, he loves watching you giggle and joke with your friends but hated that they take your attention off of him for so long, (even though when your with them he’s 90% of your conversation)
✿: James is very hyperactive as opposed to your calm and laid back demeanor, Remus always says you balance James’ (sometimes overbearing) energy perfectly
✿: when you’re sitting fairly far away from James he will lay his head down on the nearest table and stare at you with a witty smile until you finally break and smile back at him

since the tiktok ban, i've been seeing a lot of stuff where people blame americans for jegulus and i can't stop thinking about it. i don't know why people feel this way, but i am prepared to make an argument. so please allow me to make my case.
[also this is completely based on generalizations. i know americans that hate jegulus and love jily, and i know british people who hate jily and love jegulus]
so i've never been a jily girl. even years before i found jegulus, i never cared about that ship. i straight up didn't even know that people wrote fics about them specifically. (i actually still don't know if people do write fics about only them because i would never seek out something like that).
originally, i'd thought it was just because i only cared about the golden trio characters and occasionally sirius and remus, but the more i got into the marauders era, the more i realized that james and lily together were the standouts, i just really didn't care for them.
it got to the point where i only read fics that referenced jily if they were extremely background to the story (which they almost always were bc there is just not that much to say about them) or preferably if both of them were already dead and it was just remus, sirius, and harry who remained.
shortly after i really started getting into the fandom and writing for jegulus, i spoke to someone who hated jegulus and loved jily, and i told them that i'd always felt like james and lily were on the road to divorce before they died. this person was SCANDALIZED. they could not understand why'd said that.
now granted, this person was in their early twenties and in my experience, if you haven't lived long enough to see a lot of your friends go through divorces, then the idea that james and lily might divorce may seem crazy.
however, and this is where the american thing really comes in, i realized after this conversation why i felt that there was no way that james and lily were going to make it and that was specifically because of growing up a conservative christian bible belt ass place.
do you know how many couples i knew in high school who started dating their senior year even though they seemingly had nothing in common, had sex one time and didn't use protection because sex education is extremely limited down there, got pregnant, and had to have shotgun wedding?
so. fucking. many.
do you know how many of them are still married?
only one.
so when i see jily, two characters who have nothing in common beyond being gryffindors, get together, have a kid, and get married (not necessarily in that order) all within like two years, i know that the odds are not in their favor. those two aren't staying together. don't play with me.
now i don't know how people feel about young marriages in other parts of the world, especially in the uk, but i've spoken to a lot of americans, especially ones from the south, and so many of them have had the exact same experiences with their peers. i just can't help but wonder if that lends itself to less people being interested in jily.
i have other arguments to this, like that jily is not as entertaining as almost every other ship that james or lily could be involved in and americans being partial to entertainment above all else, or the american (and christian) obsession with the concept of redemption and self sacrifice making regulus a more compelling character than one that lived and died good (lily and james), but this was the one i wanted to focus on today.
#this is so long but i need to get it out of my head#i did not proof read this so im sorry if there are a ton of typos#jegulus#regulus black#james potter#american marauders fans#marauders#this is not jily friendly#just so you know

Field - March 5 - word count: 160 - @wolfstarmicrofic
Sirius looked magnificent on the soccer field.
He was all grace and fluidity with his hair tied back and his bangs plastered to his forehead.
Remus watched in awe as his boyfriend passed the ball to James effortlessly, avoiding people trying to steal.
Peter, sitting next to him, was chewing at his lip. “D’you think we’ll win?” he asked. “I don’t want to be subjected to James being all whiny again.”
“You’re right. If we lose, James will be insufferable,” Remus replied, eyes still glued to the ball. “I really do hope we win.”
“And… Potter scores!” the announcer shouted. “The game is five-oh! Hogwarts Academy is in the lead!”
Remus watched as Sirius wiped sweat off of his face. He looked absolutely ethereal.
“Oh, stop ogling your boyfriend, Moony,” Peter chuckled. “Look at Prongs.”
And to Remus’s utter shock, James was now… making eyes at Regulus Black?
“Wow,” he whispered in shock. “Sirius is going to throw a fit.”

The American: Welcome to Hogwarts

Remus Lupin x Fem! American! Reader
Prequel of The American: Welcome Back! -click to read
Summary: Entering their 5th year, Remus and his friends are told of a new student coming to Hogwarts. While dealing with problems of his own, Remus can't help but notice the new transfer student from America.
Warning: slow burn, bullying, issues of self esteem, suicidal thoughts, xenophobia against reader, name calling, the word mud blood is used a lot, very dark content.
A/N:I haven't read the books but I have seen the movies and read a shit ton of fanfic. I'm making stuff up as we go so my plot can work. There are some characters that I thought were real but where made up for fanfics. I hope people don't mind if i add them because i already wrote the chapter. I later found out while googling stuff abt The Marauders. I will be added them and other characters to my story with my own twist. With that being said, don't come for me if this character is doing this and that. Not sure how many chapters I'll be doing, really depends on the feedback. please read the tags before reading. Enjoy -L
Remus found himself staring at the tracks in front of him. His eyes studied the nails and the iron bars of the train tracks. He can hear the horns of the Hogwarts Express blasting indicating it’s near. It drowns out the sounds of the students and their families around him. He looks at the red and black train coming and Remus takes a step forward.
Remus has thought of this a lot before, stepping in front of a train. Trains, buses and cars. Just one leap and it will be over. His fingers tighten over the straps of his bag over his shoulder as he thinks about it more.
A quick death, what a wonderful relief.
He hates having a full moon in the summer when he is away from Hogwarts. He didn’t have any of his friends during that time. They were off on vacation or doing activities with their families and Remus doesn’t have the heart to ask them to come over. His friends have done so much for him. He’s afraid of asking for too much and they will leave him for it. He doesn’t want to be alone.
Remus takes another step forward getting a bit closer to the edge and as he looks ahead. His mouth slightly dropped open when he saw a man standing on the other side of the tracks staring back at him. The man stood there bloody, throat ripped open, slashes across his face and chest. Blood was gushing out from the man’s wound. He wore dark blue trousers and a white ripped collar shirt. The man lifted his hand towards Remus, reaching for him. With his finger, he pointed at Remus as blood dripped down from it. Remus feels the bile coming up his throat when the man try to open his mouth to speak. Blood came pouring out from his mouth and Remus stands there frozen in fear. Remus doesn't see a flash of red running towards him.
“Remus!” He feels a force come at him making him take a step back from the edge of the platform. The train approaches, hiding him away from the bloody man. He felt Lily hug him and Remus shut his eyes as he wrapped his arms around her pulling her into a tight hug. He missed her so much this summer. He didn’t visited her like usual. He couldn’t. He was ashamed of himself. He tries to get rid of the sight of the man he just saw, he continues to hug her. Lily rubbed his back when Remus didn't pull right away.
Lily Evans, was the first friend he made when he came to Hogwarts. She was the first to realize what he was and she was the first to not make him feel bad for being a werewolf. As times passed he was welcome into a group of three boys. They didn’t make him feel bad as well, they had even helped him by becoming animagus and stayed with him through his transformations.
“You haven’t written back to me all summer.” Lily said when they pulled away. The students around them started boarding into the train.
“Forgive me, Lils. Rough summer is all.” Remus said as he grabbed his luggage by his feet along with Lily’s. She gave him a thanks and he just nodded. He wasn’t going to allow her to carry the heavy thing.
Lily and Remus greeted the other students in their year as they walked to their usual compartment. Remus with ease placed the luggage on the top shelf as Lily sat down. Remus sat down with a huff beside her, next to the window, his favorite spot. Lily opened her beige shoulder bag and took out a brown lunch paper bag with the letter R written on it.
“Mom, send you a snack.” Remus smiles as he grabs it from Lily.
“She’s a saint.” Remus said as he opened it, taking a look inside. In separate plastic bags, he saw there were slices of green apples and a jam sandwich cut diagonally. There was even a small juice box.
“Green apple, my favorite.” He comments.
“Ugh, she likes you more than me.” Lily pulled out a bag of baby carrots instead of apples like him. Lily’s mom knew of Remus, he would visit Lily sometimes during break and the summer. Lily’s mom was always happy to see him and even called him a son at one point when he always offered to take out the trash or wash the dishes. Remus thought it was the least he could do since they had him over for dinners. Petunia wasn’t really fond of him, but he didn’t mind her. He ignored the names being aimed at him when he sat across from her during dinner.
Remus chuckles at Lily then he takes the bag of apples out. “I’ll trade.”
“You would really do that for me?” She asked him with a pout.
“Hurry, before I change my mind!” Lily laughs and gives him the bag of baby carrots as she gets the bag of apples.
Remus drops the baby carrots into his brown paper bag, saving them for later. He looked over at Lily when he noticed what she was holding out. He gives her a smile and grabs the slice of apple from her hand.
Quickly putting it in his mouth, he hummed at the sweetness of the apple as he chewed. Lily frowned and stopped mid-bite when she noticed Remus looking out the window. His eyes roaming quickly on the other side of the platform.
“Looking for someone?” Lily asked and Remus looked over at her. He shook his head, telling her nobody.
Lily is eating when Sirius and James come walking in. Remus rises up from his seat to greet his friends. Lily does the same. Remus helps Sirius with his luggage as James sits next to Lily by the door. Sirius sits across from Remus.
He’s listening to Sirius ramble on about his summer, it was another horrid one. His mother had gone mad about tradition with the family. He was a disgrace for being a Gryffindor, but he was even more of a disgrace to his family when they found out Sirius doesn’t agree with the pureblood ideas. James and Lily are talking amongst themselves. Remus and Sirius just gave each a look, James was finally getting on Lily’s good side.
Sirius hits Remus' shoes with his elbow that rested next to him. Remus had quite a growth spurt last year. He had his leg resting on the seat across from him.
“How was your summer, mate?! I sent you a letter, you know?” Sirius' cheeks grow pink and Remus notices it.
“I’m sorry. I did receive it. I had a hard time answering back. Last moon was draining.” Sirius nods at him, understandingly.
“Are you okay now?” He asks Remus. Sirius notices something odd with Remus when he doesn't answer right away. He didn’t like it one bit. Remus was usually cheerful whenever they came back to school.
“Yes, Padfoot.” Remus answers as he leans his head against the window. Sirius decides to not push it and asks Remus about a book he was reading before summer break. He smiles when he sees Remus' whole demeanor change, Remus sat up and excitedly told him about it. The train lets out another sound and a few seconds later. The train began to move then after a few more conversations about Lily and James’ summer. One by one they started to doze off.
Remus was sleeping with his head against the window. His body jiggled softly as the train kept on moving. He scratches his nose when he feels an itch in his sleep. Inhaling deeply, Remus’ eyes shot open when a scent hit him. The scent is new, it didn’t come from his friends. Remus felt a chill down his back, it was a strange feeling. He doesn’t know why he’s smelling it, the full moon has passed already. Why is the lycanthropy still residing in him? Sitting up straight, he looks over at his friends. They are still sleeping, he wonders why Peter isn’t here. They have been taking the same spot in the train for five years now, so Peter couldn’t be lost in finding them.
Remus felt his throat close up when the smell hit him again. He rose up from his seat, taking another sniff in the air. He noticed the door was a bit open. He figured it was Sirius who usually forgets to latch the lock whenever coming back from the restroom.
Remus decides to go to the bathroom and wash his face. He figured he was smelling things because he had a rough summer. He was barely sleeping at home. The nap on the train was the best sleep he had all summer. He shuts the door behind him then looks up and down the hall, it’s empty. The lights of the hallway were lit up, he saw most of the other people had pulled down the curtains for privacy as he walked to the restroom. Remus yawns as he walks inside the restroom and turns on the light. Rubbing his eyes he steps in front of the toilet to relieve himself. Letting out a small moan when finished urinating, he turns his head to the door. That fucking smell is there, he quickly walks to the door. He presses his forehead against it. Remus inhales the scent, it's on the wooden door.
The scent of copper, the scent of a girl.
Remus doesn’t realize at first but he breathes heavily, his forehead is pressed against the door as his right hand touches his chest and drops down to his lower stomach. He fist the sweater he wore on top of his uniform in his hand as he sniffs harder. When his fingers hits the zipper of his trouser, the urge to touch himself came over him. His eyes shot open and he quickly stepped away from the door. He stared at it, scared. This has never happened to him before. A scent that was making him horny, it was new to him.
Remus knows this isn’t him, this has to be Moony. The wolf that resides in him. Moony should be gone by now but he isn’t. He leans against the wall of the bathroom and let's out a sigh. He shook his head as he looked down at his hands, he shut his eyes when he remembered how his hands looked with all that blood. He looks ahead at the mirror and whines when the background changes. He saw himself back again in the woods behind his house.
“Stop it.” He hissed to himself as he looked away and started to push the button of the soap dispenser on the wall.
Turning the hot water all the way up. He ignored the heat of the water as he washed his hands until it was pink and raw. He kept telling himself, he had to scrub it away, wash the blood away. He looks ahead at the mirror and stares at himself. His eyes are staring at the new scar on his face. He hates his appearance, despises it. It’s just a constant reminder of what he is, a monster. His friends tell him differently but Remus knows he’s one. He truly is especially after what he did.
Running his fingers through his hair, damping his sandy brown curls before turning off the light, he walks out of the bathroom. The hallway is still empty, he shuts the door and starts to walk back when he smells it again. His chest started to feel tight and he bit his bottom lip as he turned to face the other side of the hallway.
He’s staring down the hall and he can smell it again.
“Fuck.” He murmured when he saw that part of the train, usually students of House Slytherin, sits in. He steps forward carefully as he looks to the left. Most of the train compartments had the curtains drawn down, he stopped when one of the doors was slightly open. He guessed whoever was in there forgot to use the lock.
‘Another Sirius.’ Remus tells himself as he looks inside. He sees a figure sleeping on the cushion seats, a leg hanging out. He frowns when he notices they wore jeans and sneakers. The person wasn't in uniform like them. Remus hears laughter further down the hall and quickly goes back. Last thing he wants to do is come face to face with a Slytherin. Making it back to his seat, he gently sat back down to not disturbed Lily who was leaning against James. He grabs the brown lunch bag Lily’s mom made for him.
Remus quietly eats his sandwich as he stares out the window, watching the scenery. He never gets tired looking at the mountains and lakes as the train makes its way to Hogwarts.
Shelley Mumps was the one who woke everyone the following morning. Remus had dozed off after eating his sandwich. He jumped out of his sleep when Shelley slid the door open with such force.
“What happened?” James said in a sleepy voice as she shut the door and sat beside Sirius waking him up.
“There's a transfer student. She's in our year.” Shelley said, looking at them.
“Cool, can we go back to sleep?” Sirius said getting himself comfortable again against the wall.
"She's American.” She added. Remus frowns. “They allow Americans in Hogwarts?” He questioned.
“ Apparently because she’s here. Some of us saw her walking down the hallway. She was staring out the window. You should have seen the clothes she was wearing.” Shelley laughs and Remus looks away from her.
Lily just sighs at her friend. “What do you mean by that, Shelley?”
“She had ripped holes in her jeans and her shoes looked dirty. She had this shirt with this ugly green army jacket. She looks homeless.” Sirius was awake now and looked at Remus who kept quiet and stared out the window.
“I'm sure, it wasn't that bad.” James said, clearing his throat as he sat up straight in his seat.
“Oh please. The train is stopping soon. You’ll see her.” Shelley said before waving bye at them.
“Tell me why you are still friends with her?” Remus asks softly, looking over at Lily.
“I have too, I share a dormitory with her.” Lily said, grabbing her bag as they felt the train stopped.
They quickly got up and started to get their belongings. The students lined up and walked out the train. “Let's see if we can catch a glimpse of this girl.” Sirius tells Remus and James as Lily waved bye at them to find her other friends.
Remus walked behind them as they walked to the waiting carriages. Leaving their trunks and luggage behind, they sat down. Remus looks around but has no luck in finding this ‘homeless girl.’ The carriages make it to the gates and they step down to walk towards the school, it was a five minute walk.
“Peter!” James exclaimed and Remus looked over to see his friend walking towards them.
“I missed the bloody train! My parents were furious. They had to drop me off.” Peter said with a sigh. Sirius and Remus shook their heads, Peter had a tendency of being late. They welcomed Peter with a hug.
“Did you hear the news?” Sirius asked.
Peter rolled his eyes. “Yeah, Shelley gave me the full details on the new girl.”
They walked together to the castle when they noticed a group of students standing by.
“Oi!” James yells and a Ravenclaw boy, named Hems in their year, turns around. “What's going on?”
“The American is with Hagrid.” Hems tells them as they get closer. Remus looked ahead to see.
“Is she daft? What's she petting?” Remus hears another student ask.
“Her name is-.” Someone said your name and Remus thinks it’s a nice name. He continues to look at you, trying to get a good look at your face.
He can see Hagrid talking to you with a smile as you kept petting at the air but Remus can see the thestral you were petting. He could see its leathery wings flap for a second before circling around you making you giggle. Shelley was blowing your appearance out of proportion but it was exactly what he expected from a pureblood. He looks at you and he thinks your smile is pretty, that's what he noticed first about you. He looks at your clothes. You look casual. You look like a regular muggle, it reminded him of the outfit Sirius usually wears whenever going out to a muggle place. The green army jacket is a bit big on you. You wore a black shirt and blue ripped jeans.
The thestral rubbed its head against your bookbag, you wore and Hagrid shooed the thestral away from you when it started to nibble on your bag making you laugh loudly.
“What is she laughing at?” A student asked loudly.
“You idiot, it's thestral.” Remus looks over and notices Severus with a group of Slytherins standing by. He was glaring at you as he answered. Remus noticed Hagrid leaning down to tell you something. You turn to face them and Remus sees your face for a second. Your eyes widened by the sight of them and quickly looked away before he could get a good look at you.
“Two galleons, I’ll have her in bed by the end of the week.” Remus noticed an older student from House Ravenclaw speak out. Remus rolls his eyes when the group of students around him starts to snicker and begin to place their bets on you. He watches you walk away with Hagrid towards the school.
“James? Sirius?” The guy said, looking over at them.
“No, mate. I’m good.” James said before signaling his friends to keep walking. Remus doesn't want any part of it either.
Sirius stops in mid step when one of them starts to laugh and yells out, “The American probably has diseases. You know they are sluts.”
“15 galleons says she doesn't sleep with you.” Sirius said, making them stop laughing and look at him in disbelief at the amount of money he was placing.
“You're on, Black.”
Remus, James and Peter waited for Sirius to finish when he saw Severus and his friends walking away. James just glared at Severus and the long, dark haired boy did the same to James.
“You really think she won't sleep with him?” Peter asked as they continued to make their way to the castle.
“You have to be Shelley to sleep with them. I doubt she's like her.” Sirius said, shaking his head.
Settling back down in Hogwarts was easy for Remus. He missed his bed and being around his friends. The atmosphere was different from back home. He wasn't alone, in Hogwarts he was surrounded by students, professors, and even ghosts.
Getting ready for dinner, he spoke to Sirius about another book he got. Remus was fond of Sirius and even though they both came from completely different backgrounds. They were best friends. Sirius was the second person to figure out what he was. Remus had cried in front of him when he figured it out. Sirius didn't speak while Remus told him that he would understand if he didn't want to be friends anymore. Sirius just hugged him tightly. Hugged him until he calmed down.
“You’re ridiculous. If you think, I'm going to stop being your best friend, mate.” Sirius spoke out after a few minutes.
‘We’ll figure something out to help you. I promise.”
Remus didn't believe it at first but when James and Peter figured it out he told them the truth. The three managed to become animagi behind his back and showed Remus when they accomplished it. He never felt so accepted before. They supported Remus during his transformations and mood swings when the full moon was near. They accompanied him in their animagi form to the Shrieking Shack then later carried him to Poppy Pomfrey.
He was forever grateful for them. He really was so when he got too deep in his head and started thinking about dying and ending himself. He thinks of them. He thinks of Sirius, Peter, James and Lily. He thinks of his mom as well.
He thinks about the time his mom would bath him when he was too hurt. She would feed him, dress him when he couldn’t move. His mother changed completely during the recent summer. She couldn’t look him in the eye and it broke him. His father who treated him differently already barely said a word.
‘Oi!” Remus was deep in thought when James caught his attention.
“You okay, Moony?” James said, walking towards him. They were in their dorm room, putting their stuff away when James saw Remus laying on the bed with his hands behind his head, staring up at the ceiling.
“Yeah, Prongs.” James nods and sits beside him on the bed. Remus pushes himself up and holds himself by the elbows.
“You know I wrote to you this summer. Like four times.” James said softly as Peter and Sirius were in the bathroom freshening up to go to dinner.
“I know. I just-.” Remus feels James' eyes on him. “I don't know.” Remus lied.
“Everything okay at home?” James whispered in a concerned tone, he knew about his life at home. Remus nods as Peter and Sirius come out of the bathroom laughing about something.
“Ready to eat?” Peter asked as they put on their robes.
“Yes!” Remus said getting out of bed, he looked over his shoulder to meet James' gaze who was still sitting down and staring at him. He did not believe Remus for a second. James drops it because he knows Remus hates being the center of attention so he drops it for now and says yes to Peter.
Remus finds himself looking for you at the great hall but he can’t. He keeps his head down and listens to James and Lily talking in front of them as Sirius is talking with Marlene. Peter is next to him, trying to ignore Shelly who was talking about her summer. He was more interested in what's for dinner.
“Welcome Students! Back for another year with us. I do hope everyone had a good summer.” Remus sighs as he looks down at the empty plate in front of him. The headmaster Dumbledore makes a few announcements about classes and a new teacher who will be teaching D.A.D.A.
“Lastly, it gives me great pleasure to introduce a new student that will be joining us,-.” Dumbledore announces your full name and Remus repeats it in his head. He remembers your smile. It was so genuine, no one smiled like that to thestrals.
“She’s from America, boys and girls. She will be studying with us. I want everyone to give her a warm welcome.” Remus looked up from his plate and looked over at the doors of the hall when it opened. He saw you wearing their uniform on. You stood next to Hagrid who urged you to walk inside.
Remus claps along with his friends as you walk to Dumbledore and McGonagall, who had the sorting hat ready for you.
“She looks like she's going to throw up.” Remus hears a Slytherin ahead of him joke. While you walked up the steps and sat down on the stool, facing everyone. Your eyes were looking down when McGonagall placed the hat on your head.
The sorting hat hums as it rests on top of your head.
“I feel it, young one. Don't you?” Remus saw you looking over at Dumbledore with a frightened look. McGonagall nods at you, easing your worries. You look down at the ground once more and your hands clasped on top of your lap.
“Difficult choice, indeed.” The hat says.
“A fighter!” The sorting hat yells, making everyone whisper.
“A protector!” Remus noticed the look on Dumbledore's face.
“Oh- my, that is-.” The hall quieted down when the hat stopped in mid sentence.
“I know now! I see it!” The sorting hat crackled loudly.
“Slytherin!” Remus saw you lift your face to look ahead and Remus thought you were the most beautiful person he had ever seen. He took notes of your nose and lips. Your eyes and the way you looked so nervous made him feel bad.
He looked away from you when the hall started to applause. McGonagall was kind enough to show you where the table was. You looked down at your uniform when you noticed the color had changed.
He peeks between Lily and James and sees you picked the farthest empty seat from the table. He can see you take a deep breath as you look at the silverware in front of you when you sit down.
Shelley is sniggering with an older student from Gryffindor who is sitting beside her.
“What's so funny?” James asked. “She probably doesn't know what a fork is? Don't Americans eat with their hands?” The boy asked James.
“That’s fucked up, lad.” Sirius says, eyeing him.
“Look ahead, she's using them just fine.” Lily snaps before looking down to eat her food. Remus looks over and notices you have begun to eat as well. It was quiet after that, Remus ate and only looked over when he took a sip of his juice. They ignore the others who keep making jokes are your expense. They spoke about your hair and how you looked. Some thought you were hot while others thought you were ugly.
Sirius noticed how Remus was quiet. It was pretty normal for Remus to be quiet. Quiet Remus, who only speaks when spoken too but right now it was different. Sirius felt his best friend’s vibe completely off right then and there.
Remus had different sides of him. He can be so quiet then be very cheerful and make jokes. Until the full moon comes, he becomes cranky and snappy. Sirius stabs his chicken with his fork as he looks at Remus. There’s a new scar on his face and Sirius doesn’t have the courage to ask him about it. Especially since he saw how Remus acted when asked why he hadn't responded to his letter. Something must have happened during the summer, Sirius thinks to himself.
He noticed Remus looking over when he took a drink. He followed his gaze and landed on you. Sirius does a double take when he sees his younger brother Regulus walking towards you with his plate in his hands along with his cup.
Regulus flashes you a smile. “Oh fuck!” A Gryffindor from the table whispered.
Regulus sits down across from you. “You ok?” Remus whispers when he sees it.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be? He’s with his kind.” Sirius says to Remus but he doesn’t believe that Sirius can just be okay. Remus knows the complicated relationship that Sirius had with his younger brother.
It was a few minutes later when Regulus and you stood up. Plates are empty and Remus watches as you pick up the empty plate.
“What is she doing?” A boy from the Hufflepuff table behind them says catching their attention and the voices in the hall become quiet.
“Do we have to wash it?” It was a simple question that you asked. Remus gets annoyed at the fact that you get laughed out by the Slytherin table when you ask Regulus.
Regulus shoots them a glare and shakes his head at you before telling you that there was no need. You can leave your plate there and the elves will get it and clean it.
“Elves?” You frowned, and your eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
“Like a Santa's elf?” Remus hasn’t heard the word Santa since he was a kid.
Regulus tilts his head at you, he’s confused now.
“She’s half blood then?” Remus hears the table start throwing ideas of what your blood is.
“What the fuck is a Santa?” Sirius whispered to James then looked at Remus when James shrugged his shoulders.
“Are you sure that she’s in the right grade if she thinks Santa is real?” Someone asked loudly and people began to laugh.
It had gotten to the point that the laughter behind Remus started to get to him. He didn’t find it funny at all that they were making fun of you. He wondered what did you know about magic, perhaps you didn’t know anything at all. His guess had to be that you were muggle born but he keeps it to himself because if he was right about you being a muggle born then you will have a difficult time, especially in house Slytherin.
He knows what it feels like to be made fun of and he hates it. He gets bullied for his scar face. He gets bullied because he’s quiet. He gets bullied because he’s poor.
He sees Regulus walking out with you from the great hall. He leaves a few minutes after saying he had a headache but he just didn’t want to hear the comments they were making. He decided to go to sleep early that night.
He was glad he had a dreamless sleep. He didn’t dream about the man. It was morning and he saw you again walking with a younger student from your house to the great hall. Remus walks in with Peter and he sighs when he sees Shelly and Marlene there already, eating. He didn’t mind Marlene at all, she was kind and reminded him of the female version of Sirius. She was spunky and played quidditch with James and Sirius.
“Morning, guys.” Remus greets them and sits down. While a Ravenclaw girl ahead of them rises up from her seat and runs to Shelley.
“You won’t believe what I just heard!” The girl said to Shelley.
“The American slept in the bathroom on her first night here. Her roommates are telling everyone. They heard her crying.” Shelley and the girl began to laugh.
Marlene looks at the girls. “I don’t find that funny. She probably misses her home.”
“Oh come on, Marlene.” Shelley said, waving her hand dismissing Marlene’s words.
Before she can say anything James and Lily along with Sirius came in. “Morning.” They greeted their friends.
“I’m not ready for classes.” James sighs as he sits down.
“Guys, Penelope just told me that -.” Remus finally cracks and cuts her off when he slams his hand on the table loudly and looks over at her.
“Would you shut up already? Enough making fun of the new girl.” He said and Shelley grows red from embarrassment of his sudden outburst.
“You feel bad for nasty foreigners?” The Ravenclaw girl, Penelope asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
“I feel bad for anyone that has to deal with tossers like the both of you!” Remus said, looking at her and Shelley. He stood up from his seat ignoring James and Sirius calling out for him. He walks out the doors and goes back to his room. He paces around the room, coming to terms on what he just said to Shelly and the other girl. He felt bad for calling them that name but he just got so angry.
How can people make fun of other people suffering, he asks himself. He had lost count on how many times he’s cried himself to sleep during his first year coming to Hogwarts. Being alone and afraid that someone will find out his wolf secret. He checks the clock on the nightstand and notices it's almost time for his first class. He grabs his books from his trunk and hopes he doesn’t see Shelley or the other girl.
He started to grow worried as he walked to class that Lily would be angry at him for calling her friend a wanker. He was surprised when Lily hugged him when they saw each other for the third class of the day.
“I can’t believe her!” Lily told him when she unwrapped her arms from him.
“Don’t tell anymore but sometimes I get homesick. I’m in tears in the tub.” She admits to him.
“You know how I feel about bullies.” Remus tells her and she nods at him knowing all too well about bullies. She was a victim like him, she was bullied heavily in her first year for being a muggle-born and sometimes even now.
When lunch began he was walking with Peter who didn’t say much about the incident and Remus was grateful for it. They talked about their class they had last period. As he walks in he sees you sitting with the same younger student. You were smiling and so was the kid.
The kid had a book open in front of you and Remus smiles at your choice of writing utensil. You were using a pen instead of a quill and you were writing down on a regular notebook instead of parchment paper.
The kid kept talking while you nodded and wrote frantically.
Everything seems to be going well, Shelley had decided to eat with her friend, Penelope at the other table. James and Sirius came soon into the hall talking enthusiastically about quidditch.
“Guys! Guys!” Remus flinched when a group of Hufflepuff students came beside him and stared ahead at the Slytherin table.
Remus looks ahead as well to see what all the fuss is about. Lance, from house Ravenclaw is in his last year and everyone knows him for being a bully. He was pure-blooded so he thought everyone who wasn’t was beneath him. He usually picks on the muggle born and the half bloods from any house. Of course no one interfered because they didn’t want to get bullied as well. Lance’s blue eyes widen as he walks into the great hall and makes his way to the kid sitting across from you.
“He’s such a twat for always picking on Ruben.” The Hufflepuff next to him tells the group.
“Ruben is the kid?” Sirius asks and they all nod as Lance gets behind Ruben and pulls on his hair making him yelp. Remus has never seen someone's eyes grow hard so quickly. The smile you had on disappeared. The hall grows quiet when you stand up from your seat.
“Get the fuck away from him.” It was not usual for Lance to have someone stand up to him. He was caught by surprise from your words.
“What did you say?” Lance said with a disbelief chuckle.
“Get. The. Fuck. Away. From. Him.” The great hall is quiet and Remus noticed a few teachers had risen up from their seats when they noticed what was going on.
“What’s going on here?” McGonagall had walked towards the table and stared at Lance then at you.
“Nothing, Professor McGonagall. Just having a chat with my friend Ruben.” Lance said, taking a step back while still staring at you.
Ruben was almost in tears by the whole thing. Professor McGonagall walks Lance back to his table.
“She just placed a death mark on herself.” One of the Hufflepuff near Remus said, shaking his head. Lance was staring daggers at you and you kept your eyes on him showing no fear, just hate. You didn’t take your eyes away from him until he sat down and spoke with his friends.
“You might just win your bet. She got balls.” James says, turning back around to Sirius who turned as well to continue on with his meal.
“What bet?” Lily asked the boys and they got quiet real fast. James being whipped for Lily ratted them out and she shook her head, telling Sirius how horrible that is.
“I betted that she won't sleep with anyone, Lily!” The redhead girl shook her head as Marlene copied her. Remus kept silent as he glanced over the table and saw you grabbing Ruben’s bag. You and the kid started to walk out of the great hall after collecting your things.
He was surprised when he saw you walking inside the classroom. You were a few minutes late for charms class. The professor grabbed the slip from your hands and pointed at an empty seat in the back. Remus almost drops the quill in his hand as you pass him to sit on his row. Remus usually stayed in the back because he was tall. A Hufflepuff girl, Nancy sat in the middle between you and him.
In the corner of his eyes he noticed you had taken out the same book as before and a pen.
The Charm professor called out your name as he walked towards you. The student laughed when he told you that there is no pen and notebooks allowed only quill and parchment paper.
“I’m sorry. Mr. Robinson. I‘m still learning how to use the feather thing.” You told him, looking up at him.
“First, it’s called a quill and you're a witch now so you better start learning fast how to use it. Second of all, it’s Professor Robinson. Things are different here, Miss.”
“Yes, Professor Robinson.” Remus looks away by the tone of your voice. You sounded so defeated. Professor Robinson walks away and continues with his lesson. Nancy leans over to you when you grab the quill from your bag and the ink.
“Hold it like this.” She whispered to you showing you how to handle your quill properly.
Remus goes back to write his notes, he hoped you realize not everyone in this school were mean. There were some students who were kind. Throughout the class, his eyes would glance over Nancy to you.
After class Remus walks to the Gryffindor common room. Making it inside, he heard chattering and looked over to see Lily and Mary Macdonald.
“Hey, Remus!” Lily said, waving him to come over towards them. They were sitting on the couch by the fireplace. Remus sits on the other side as Mary hands him a box of chocolates they were eating. His eyes widened and they giggled at his expression.
Lily chuckles when Remus is wiggling his fingers trying to decide which one to take. James and Sirius came with their Quidditch uniforms on. Lily frowned when she saw them walking towards them.
“I thought you guys had practice?” Lily asked and Remus looked over at them with a frown when they didn’t say anything. The guys just looked at each other for a brief moment.
“Oh fuck, Sirius have nothing to say. It must be bad.” Mary said, trying to lighten up the mood but James and Sirius didn’t say anything. They sat on the couch across from them instead.
“They canceled practice.” James said and Lily glanced over at Remus. It had to be more, James would be in tears if practice was canceled. He took quidditch very seriously.
“Why?” Remus asked, grabbing another chocolate from the box. Sirius takes a deep breath.
“The word is going around that the new girl is muggle born.”
‘Shit.’ Remus says to himself. He was right.
“She didn't know what it meant, they asked her about her parents and she told them they weren’t wizards. Those snakes dragged her by the feet to the quidditch field and slimed her while chanting mud blood.” Sirius said. Lily and Mary dropped their mouths open in shock. Sirius and James glance at each other. They were famous for their pranks. Being slimed in the field was a good idea but they didn’t like how you began to cry and how confused you looked about the whole thing.
“Never seen Professor McGonagall look so mad before. She started yelling.” James said, leaning back on the couch crossing his arms over his chest.
“Did you see the new girl?” Lily asked and James nodded. “Yeah, the other professors had to help her off the field.”
“Blimey.” Remus mumbled as the door of the common room burst open and Shelly walked in laughing with a group of students. Remus rolls his eyes when he hears your name being whispered. This year was going to be rough, he tells himself while popping the piece of chocolate in his mouth.

⟢ frat boy!james potter x fem!reader ⟢ as president of a fraternity, your boyfriend has pledges at his beck and call. so naturally, he tasks them with handing you valentines roses throughout the day ⊹ 1.1k ⟢ warnings/tags: fluff, american!james (not that it's explicitly stated)
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
It starts with a knock at your door early in the morning. You let your roommate answer it while you continue to enjoy your yogurt and granola at the kitchen counter. You don't think anything of the hushed whispers between your roommate and the visitor until she swings the door wide open, revealing a stranger in a suit and tie.
He's looking right at you, holding out a single red rose in your direction. "M'lady," he says simply.
You hesitantly slide off your stool, wrapping your arms around yourself as you shuffle forward in your fuzzy slippers.
"Thanks," you say, accepting the rose. Just as soon as you do, the boy scurries away.
Your roommate shuts the door as you stand idly by, twirling the flower between your fingertips. "Weird. I wonder what that was about," she muses, but you have an inkling. This has your boyfriend written all over it.
The next well-dressed mystery man finds you in line at your favorite cafe on campus.
He hands you the rose with a slight bow, the same practiced "M'lady" you've heard before, then turns on his heel and walks away without another word.
When one of them shows up in your lecture hall, you sort of want to die on the spot. The sight of a man in a suit at ten in the morning catches almost everyone's attention. Their eyes follow him as he makes his way across the large room and down your row, finally dropping the rose on the desk in front of you with a bow of his head and the familiar greeting.
By lunchtime, you’ve collected a dozen roses. But apparently, that was just the warm-up.
In the dining hall, they come in an endless stream, one after another, only minutes apart. They come while you wait in line to order. While your food is being made. The entire time you eat. Each boy, a stranger. Each one handing you a rose with the same solemn "M'lady" before disappearing.
You try to ask what’s going on, but they never answer. Just a nod, a rose, and then they’re gone.
"Sirius," you huff, placing the bundle of flowers on the desk you share with him in your next class. "What is this?"
If the flower delivery boys won't tell you, you hope your boyfriend's best friend might be kind enough to give you some insight.
Sirius snickers as he plucks up one of the roses, bringing it to his nose to inhale the sweet scent with exaggerated appreciation.
"What pretty flowers you have. Where ever did you get them?" he teases, clearly finding enjoyment in your situation.
"Come on," you complain, swiping the rose from his hands and neatly setting it back with the others.
He chuckles, finding it sweet that you're so careful with the flowers even as you mock annoyance. "What do you think? It's Valentine's Day. Does he need another excuse to shower you with flowers?"
You chew your lip to hide your grin. "They're pledges, aren't they?" you ask, even though you're pretty sure you know the answer.
"Who else would they be?"
By the end of the day, you have an armful of roses. You had to grab a brown paper bag from one of the dining halls just to carry them all, and the flowers are packed in so tightly that the bag barely contains them, the petals peeking over the top and spilling over the edges.
Much to your dismay, a handful of the roses have shed a few petals due to the less than ideal setup. With a determined stride, you make your way to your car, intent on getting the delicate gifts home and into water.
As you near your car, you notice someone leaning against it. He looks just like the others, dressed just as formally as the rest—except this time, there’s a bouquet of flowers in his arm instead of a single rose. And, of course, you recognize him by the back of his head.
You press the button on your key fob, unlocking the car with a beep. James flinches slightly at the sound, then turns quickly—his eyes searching until they find yours. The moment he sees you, his expression softens, a radiant smile spreading across his face.
"Hey, baby," James says, his voice warm with affection.
"James," you greet back with a sparkling smile to match his own.
He holds his arms open for you, and after setting the grocery bag of flowers on the hood of your car, you happily step into his embrace.
"Happy Valentines Day," he murmurs into your hair.
You return the sentiment, giggling as you lean back from the hug to see his face, keeping your arms around him. "It was certainly and interesting one."
"You didn't like my flowers?" he teases. The wind picks up, sending a loose strand of hair into your face, and he gently lifts one of his hands from your waist to tuck it behind your ear. His touch lingers, his hand settling on the side of your neck, his thumb brushing over the curve of your jaw.
"I love them," you say, your voice earnest as you instinctively lean into his touch. "Though I will admit it was a little embarrassing when one of them came into my lecture hall."
"What? When? They were supposed to catch you before you went into any of your classes." James pouts slightly. Even if you are just teasing, he didn't mean to embarrass you with his stunt.
"It's okay." You lean in and give him a quick peck on the lips, an effort to smooth the pout from his face. "I don't want to tattle on any of the pledges."
A quick peck isn’t enough for James, as evidenced by the way he pulls you back in almost immediately, pressing his lips to yours for a real kiss. It's gentle at first, but James can never get enough of you. His arm tightens around you as he deepens the kiss, the cellophane wrapped bouquet in his hand crinkling behind your back.
"Don't crush my flowers," you mumble against his lips. "I only have so many."
James pulls away, a laugh escaping him. "So, you liked them? All the flowers?" he asks, his voice betraying a hint of vulnerability as he asks for reassurance.
"I really love them," you promise. "Although, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of them."
"We'll find a vase for most of them." James smirks, his voice carrying a hint of mischief as he continues, "As for the rest... I'm picturing candles and a bed covered in rose petals."
"Oh, are you?" you tease, leaning back in and brushing your lips against his. "I think that can be arranged," you murmur, before locking your lips together again.

-you immediately fell for the accents
-remus got a tea from the cafe, you had made it, and it tasted so HORRID that he made sirius and james try as well
-they were disappointed but the disappointment soon disappeared as james realized your phone number was written on the side of the cup
-they text you and set up a first date, let you know they're sort of a "package deal"
-for the first date you show them around your city, confused as to why they were so in awe that you had your driver's license
-the first date went so well that they extended their stay in the us to get to know you better
-it's not until wayyy later that you become Official-this is when you find out about wizardry and it just leaves you like :o
-"so what british people get to be wizards and i'm just stuck here"
-"no, that's not how it works dove."
-you blush REALLY hard at the different nicknames the boys have for you compared to the american counterpart: love, dove, etc.
-sirius makes fun of you constantly saying "dude, man, bro"
-"dude you bought me flowers!! no way!!"
-"do you have to call me dude"
-james approves of the american dude-bro persona you occasionally put on for shits and gigs

SO AMERICAN <3
CHAPTER 7: BAD IDEA, RIGHT?
synopsis: Remus grows attached to an american exchange student from Ilvermorny

series masterlist
a/n: do you guys like the new banner???
"EMILIA DRUGGED REMUS WITH AMORTENTIA." James concluded, his hands landed firmly on your shoulders as you processed the information.
"W-What?"
"It's clear! He's been all over her instead of you!"
"Doesn't mean he's drugged." You sniffed.
"You don't have to believe me, but you will soon." James announced, leaping out of the broom closet and marching his way over to where ever he was going.
"James- James!" You chased after him, frantically clearing your tears.
"James, what if it’s too late? What if he actually—"
"No. No way. This isn’t Remus. This is some twisted potion-induced fantasy that Emilia cooked up. He would never—"
"But he thinks it’s real. That’s the problem." "Then we make him see reality." James insisted, as you ran down the hallways.
"We have to do something, but we can’t just barge in and scream ‘you’ve been drugged’ at him." You reasoned, already out of breath.
"Why not? Sounds efficient to me." James turned his gaze towards you. "Because that’s how people get hexed, James." You deadpanned. "Fine, fine. Who do we tell? Sirius?" "He’ll want to murder someone." "Yeah, I’m counting on it."
"James! You cannot murder someone! Last time I checked it was illegal." You scolded, and right before James was about to respond, you heard the most sickeningly familiar laugh.
Gilderoy Lockhart.
Exactly who you needed.
"There's our guy."
"James? James!" You were getting increasingly more confused.
"Oi! Lockhart." James yelled, catching the boys attention before slamming him up against the wall.
His posse scattered in a fearful blitz.
"What the-"
"What's your damage, Lockhart?" You spat, replacing James as you pinned him to the wall.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about-" Gilderoy writhed under you.
"You had sixth year potions last year, didn't you? You know how to brew Amortentia, don't you?" You accused, unbeknownst to you- James was incredibly impressed.
"I- Maybe-"
"A fucking maybe doesn't cut it! Yes or no?"
"Y-Yes! Yes I- I did! I do! W-What's this about?"
"Don't play dumb, dipshit. You helped Emilia Sallow drug Remus!" You nudged him farther into the wall, pressing your wand against his throat as he quivered.
"M-Yes! Yes- I did! S-She said that-that she would make one for me to-to drug y-you when sh-e finished this course!" He admitted.
"I knew it!" James cheered, and you released Gilderoy.
"Fuck off, Lockhart, and if you're smart- you'll never speak to me again." You threatened, as he scrambled to his feet and dashed away.
James clapped, as your adrenaline skyrocketed.
"That felt good."
"Good? That was bloody brilliant!" James smiled widely, grabbing your hand and tugging you away from the scene.
A plan was underway, a big one.
"WE NEED TO GET HIM ALONE, BUT Emilia is glued to his side." You eyed Remus and Emilia, as you and James sat together in the Great Hall. "He's even sitting with her." Sirius mentioned.
"I couldn't tell." You deadpanned, fists clenched.
"What's the plan?" Peter asked meekly.
"Just- waiting until Emilia cracks, we need to find an antidote though." James answered, though he sounded a bit uncertain of himself.
"You could ask someone who's knows a great deal about potions?" Lily suggested, and Sirius had an idea.
"You could talk to Reggie! He knows tons." Sirius urged, and James' head went into auto-pilot.
"R-Regulus? I'll go talk to him!" James got up- quicker than he should have according to the confused looks on his friends faces.
"I-I mean... I guess I'll go talk to him.." James sank back down in his seats.
"I'll go talk to Slughorn, but don't worry, I'm great at being discreet."
"PROFESSOR, DO YOU KNOW OF ANY antidotes for someone who is-hypothetically-under the influence of a love potion?" Slughorn turned to you, his brow furrowed.
"Hypothetically? What is this for, Ms. L/N?" He questioned.
"Well- We have that whole project on the subject. I felt it would be a good addition to my presentation." You smiled, and he nodded.
"Ah, of course. I do enjoy seeing my students so passionate about something I teach." He prided himself, as he led you to his desk.
"You would need Wiggentree bark, crushed bezoar and essence of dittany. Cures it like a charm, every time it's been tested." He smiled, turning back to you as you mentally noted what ingredients you were to be using.
"Perfect, thank you very much, Professor." You turned to leave, the second stage of your plan complete.
"REMUS... CAN WE talk?" You stuttered, you hadn't spoken to him since potions.
"You don’t have to check in on me, I’m fine. You should be worrying about James, not me."
Oh, for god's sake—enough with this ‘I’m fine’ shit! You’re about as fine as Peter is at lying!"
"I don’t have time for this."
"You always used to have time for me."
"Things change." Remus spat.
"No, they don’t. You change under a full moon. This? This isn’t you. And you know it." You urged him.
"I… I love Emilia."
"I never said anything about Emilia."
"I love her." He pushed.
"Do you? Or do you just think you do?"
"I—I don’t know! It’s like—I think about her, and it feels right, but then—then I see you and it—" He stopped himself abruptly.
"Then what?"
"Then it feels wrong."
"Then fight it! Before it’s too late."
Remus looked at you, his eyes full of something deep and pained—something real. But just as quickly as it appears, he shoved it down, his body tense.
"I need to go." His voice barely above a whisper.
Without another word, he turns and walks away, his posture rigid, leaving you standing there, fists clenched at your sides.
"We don’t have much time." You thought.
GRYFFINDOR WAS hosting a large party after their quidditch win against Hufflepuff, and most students 5th year and above were in attendance.
"Do you think their gonna show up?" James leaned over towards you, Sirius mirroring him on your other side.
"We can only hope?"
"Oh, speak of the devil." Lily muttered, as Emilia came strutting in with Remus as if he was on a leash.
The snake sauntered over to Gilderoy as they held a pleasant conversation, before James sauntered over to a large table in the center of the common room.
Sirius also took action, pulling Remus aside and into their dorm room as "shit was about to hit the fan" according to Marlene.
"Attention everyone!" James shouted, actively gaining attention from his peers.
"I just wanted to congratulate my mind-blowing team, on another win!" The Gryffindors erupted into applause and cheers, just as James shushed them once more.
"I just have one question-" He added, his loyal crowd waiting in suspence.
"Emilia, you look great tonight." He started, and her face lit with shock.
"O-oh? Really?" She batted her eyelashes.
"How long have you been drugging Remus Lupin?"

── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
"It'll just take a minute," James promises. "We'll be in and out."
With his hand in yours, he leads you through the door, passing under the large Greek letters as you cross the threshold.
You have been seeing James for a month and a half. You never thought you'd be interested in a frat guy—you've never even step foot in one of their houses until now—but James has proven to be the opposite of what you thought a frat guy would be like.
James is a total sweetheart. Possibly the most thoughtful and genuine guy you've ever dated. He makes you feel special, always remembering the little things like your favorite flower or your drink orders at all your favorite places. He's attentive without ever being overbearing. But honestly, you don't think you could see him that way if you tried, always loving every bit of attention he gives you.
Today, he's taking you on a study date. He remembered that you were complaining about an upcoming exam in a class he's already taken, so he's grabbing his old notes and sitting you down in a quiet corner of the library so that he can help you study.
James would already have you set up in the library on the coziest chair with your favorite hot drink from the cafe if he didn't forget his old notebook in his room—which he felt rather sheepish about leaving behind.
So, here you are. James asked if you wanted to wait in the car, but you were curious to see the inside of one of these things. You half expected to see solo cups littering the floor, a pong table in place of a coffee table, and maybe even a few hungover frat guys strewn about the living room still sobering up from last nights antics.
You were a little surprised to find out that it was rather clean. You know from James that there was indeed a party here last night, but apparently they clean up nicely.
Although, you’re right about there being a pong table. But it is folded up and leaning against a wall for future use.
James guides you towards the stairs, but before he can even mount the first step someone appears in the foyer from a hall that you can see leads to the kitchen.
"Jamesie! Back so soon?" the boy cheers when his eyes land on his friend first. His eyes dart to you a second later, and something like recognition flashes in his expression. "Is this who I think it is?"
The boy has long, black hair that cascades just to his shoulders in soft waves, the kind that look effortless but too perfect to not be styled in some way. He stares at you with piercing blue eyes, making you feel oddly self-conscious, which might also have to do with the big smirk on his lips.
James squeezes your hand, sensing your nerves, but he'd bet money that they pale in comparison to his own. He's been nervous about bringing you around here. It doesn't have anything to do with you, or them (well, maybe he's a little worried they'll scare you off). You're really important to him, and so are they, and he's been putting a lot of pressure on introducing you to them. So, this unplanned visit has his palms sweating, which he's hoping you haven't noticed.
"Sirius," James greets his friend. "Yeah, this is Y/N."
Your eyes widen a fraction when Sirius immediately steps forward, taking your free hand to press a kiss to the back of your knuckles. "Hi, sweetheart, I've heard a lot about you. Truly, a lot. James has talked my ear off about you so I really feel like I'm meeting an old friend. I'm Sirius."
You feel heat rise to your cheeks but you're not alone, as James' own face turns rosy as he mutters a scolding "dude!" at his friend.
"Don't tell me you were just gonna sneak in without so much as a proper introduction." Sirius places a hand over his heart, a dramatic look of utter disbelief painting his face.
"We're just stopping by to get my notes. We have a very important study sesh to get to, didn't want to delay us too much," James explains, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"I promise it'll only be a short detour then. Pete and Remus are the only ones here anyway," Sirius says. His eyes dart to you again, something mischievous swimming within them. "We've all been dying to meet the girl that has our James so smitten. I mean, he's been going on and on and on. It's nice to finally have a pretty face to the name."
At Sirius’ words, you can’t help but crack a smirk as you peer up at James.
“Don’t look at me like that,” James murmurs, now rubbing his thumb across your knuckles the way he does when he gets anxious. James is sure the tips of his ears are bright red. Sirius will go to no end to embarrass him, but despite the fact that his heart might jump out of his chest at any second, James really only cares how you feel about the situation. James tilts his head toward you, lowering his voice to ask, "Are you up for meeting some of the guys?"
"Yeah," you say with a warm smile. "I'd love to meet your friends." And you really would. James talks a lot about them, too. Always reciting some story about all the shenanigans they've gotten into over the years.
You've been able to tell he's been overthinking bringing you to meet them. You get it—you're secure in James' feelings for you, so you know it's nothing personal. Plus, you were really nervous when James met your friends. To be honest, even though they were jokes, you're friends have made digs at frat guys before because of the stigma. You really wanted James and your friends to like each other, and thankfully, they really do and you had nothing to be worried about.
You hope that meeting his friends will have the same outcome and ease some of James' worries.
Sirius provides a generous introduction as you enter the kitchen. "Boys, it seems we have a very special guest in our midst this morning."
There are two guys sitting on kitchen stools who swivel around to greet you.
There's a lanky boy with mousy brown hair whose eyes dart back and forth between you and James before he directs a kind smile in your direction.
The other boy spins around mid-spoonful of a bowl of cereal. He abandons the utensil in his mouth to wave at you, his other hand occupied by the bowl resting in his palm.
Your eyes trail around the kitchen as James introduces you to them. It's rather large, as it would have to be to accommodate the large number of guys you assume live here.
You've also discovered the mess you thought you'd be stepping into. It seems that all of the discarded solo cups and beer cans have already been shoveled into a few trash bags, which are just about ready to burst at the seams as they wait by the back door to be taken out.
"I'm Peter," the boy with the cereal pipes up after returning his spoon to his bowl.
"Remus," the tall one introduces himself. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too," you say. "You know, I've never been in a frat house before. I take it you all live here?"
Remus is the only one who shakes his head. "Not a brother," he clarifies. "Just unlucky enough to have them as my best friends."
"Oh, you know you'd be lost without us," Sirius says, rolling his eyes playfully. "And it's not a frat house, it's a frat home," Sirius says very earnestly. Too add to his dramatics, he pulls Peter into a hug (which nearly makes him fall off his stool) and raps his fist against his back as he pretends to get emotional.
Peter's laughing as he shoves, Sirius off. "Alright, man," he says, swatting Sirius' hand away as he ruffles his hair.
"Sirius had beer for breakfast," Remus informs you to excuse Sirius' behavior.
"Hey, I only had two and I know you're not suggesting I'm a lightweight," Sirius points at Remus accusingly. "Anyway, I was just telling Y/N how often Jamesie muses about her."
Remus clicks his tongue, shaking his head. "Don't tease him too badly, Sirius.”
"It's not like it's not true," Peter shrugs, earning himself a glare from James.
You look up at James. His cheeks have deepened a few shades now as he glowers at Peter. You give his hand a squeeze to attract his attention, the expression on his face immediately softening when he looks at you.
“I think it’s sweet,” you say, encouraging a smile onto James’ lips. He drops your hand, only to wrap his arm around your shoulder and pull you into his side. You nuzzle your nose against his shoulder, looking at him with expectant eyes. He knows what you’re asking for, and would rather hand his friends more ammo to tease him with than deny you, so he gladly plants a tender kiss to the top of your head.
“You two are sickening.” Sirius leans over the counter, propping his chin up with his hand as he sighs dramatically. “It’s adorable,” he adds.
“Wrapped around her finger, are ya?” Peter joins in on the teasing.
James keeps his eyes on you as he responds. “You bet I am.”
You tear your eyes away from James’ sweet gaze to address his smirking friends. “You know, I've heard a lot about you guys too," you say.
Sirius lights up with intrigue. "Oh, do tell."
"Well, Peter must be the guy to go to if you want to have a laugh. Every time James asks ‘Wanna hear a story Peter told me’ I know I’m gonna have to sit through several fits of laughter before he gets to the end of it," you say, nudging James with your elbow who nods along to confirm your story.
Peter puffs up his chest, proud to be known as the funny one.
"Remus," you continue, "I should've known you weren't a brother. James always tells me about how they drag you into things that you have to get them out of. If he hasn't told you before, he's very thankful for you. And Sirius. I think I've heard the most interesting stories about you."
"This should be good," Sirius says, a cocky grin on his face. "I've given James a whole catalog of legendary stories to tell about me."
"My favorite is the one that started with you trying to impress a girl by jumping into the pool from the roof and ended with you in the bushes after you tripped on the gutter,” you say, an air of sweetness in your tone and a smile on your lips.
The confident smirk drops from Sirius’ face and James snorts a laugh beside you. Peter cracks up, and even Remus snickers at the look on Sirius’ face.
"I think you’ve just won over Sirius," Remus says, watching as his grin returns.
“You got me, I can appreciate that,” Sirius says. “Why have you been hiding her from us for so long, James? I like her.”
"Yeah, I like her too,” James replies, squeezing you a little closer into his side. He doesn't bother trying to hide the broad grin overtaking his features. As he looks down at your giggling face, he can't remember what he was so nervous about.

cw: it’s a lil sad, but everything is resolved! kind of?
a/n: sorry it’s a bit of a short one! chapter 7 out tonight/tomorrow morning! love u all and thank you for your patience (:
STANDING ON THE EDGE of the black lake with Remus felt different this go around.
He kept trying to speak— but words continued to fail.
“These are for you.” You shyly handed him the Galaxy Minstrels, his very favorite chocolate.
You gave him his favorite chocolate.
“Y/N, I—“ He paused, running a scarred hand through his already disheveled hair in contemplation.
“It’s okay, Remus. I jumped the gun.” You finished for him.
“No, you didn't. I was a dick and you have every right to hold everything against me." Remus communicated.
"Remus, I would never hold something that you cannot psyhically control against you." You promised, grabbing his hand gently.
"You don’t have to accept any part of me ever, please— I would never force anything on you—“
“I cherish every part of you.”
“But you don’t have to cherish any—“
"I don't care what you are, Remus. You are radiant." You emphasized.
Remus froze lightly, as you scanned his features.
"Besides, now I know where all of these beautiful scars came from." You traced your fingers over the carefully carved divots of his face.
"I— I’m not beautiful-"
“And how can you say that?
“Because I see myself in the mirror everyday and—“
"Remus, tell me; When a exquisite sculpture cracks, does that make it any less exquisite?"
"I— Er— no?”
“They still display it proudly, don’t they?”
“I suppose..”
“Like the Venus de Milo, it’s practically adored because it’s broken.
And he was silenced.
"That's how I see you." You smiled sweetly, brushing his cheek as he cracked a small smile.
"You have a way with words, Dove." Remus mused.
"I've learned from the best." You giggled, marveling at his hazel eyes.
“Doesn’t mean i’m going to believe them just yet.”
“As long as I can affirm it to you and get you to believe them one day then that’s all I want.”
A comfortable silence washed over the lake, as Remus pulled you in for a tight embrace.
He got his acceptance, and you got your clarity.
"I'd never wish anything to happen to this, Dove."
“Same here.” You notioned.
“…So about my mistake?” You gazed back up to him.
“Don’t worry about it.” Remus assured kindly.
“I—I still feel guilty, those weren’t my intentions—“
“It’s fine, honey. I’m not upset one bit, okay?” Remus bent down to look you in the eyes.
“Okay…”
“Okay.”
Remus was so incredibly comforting.
He was nearly identical to a large blanket engulfing you after a long tiring day, or listening to your favorite song after something went wrong.
Remus was comfort.
"We both have to make a promise," You started. "No more self-deprecating comments about yourself." "And- for me, no feelings." You attempted to convince yourself that it was a good idea.
"I can try, dove." Remus shook your hand gently, and escorted you back to the castle and up to your common room.
"NO FEELINGS?" Lily gawked, stepped towards you.
"It just came out! I can't ruin our friendship, this was way too much of a close call." You insisted, trust-falling onto your bed.
"Honey, you loved him." Mary visibly delated in her chair.
"And I still do, but I love him so dearly that I'd rather us stay safe and friends then dangerous and together." You explained solemnly.
"Besides, he doesn't like me."
"Doesn't like you? Y/N, the boy looks at you like you hung the stars!" Molly argued, watching you from her vanity mirror.
Molly Prewitt shared a dorm with you, Lily, Mary, and Marlene.
She was an 8th year who was only staying at Hogwarts to shadow Professor Slughorn for potions.
"How did you and Arthur work it out?" Mary asked the ginger.
"You have to train them, like dogs. Good boyfriends are practically DIYs." She taught, finishing up removing her makeup.
"But he's already trained, and he's perfect. I can't ruin him or our friendship." You sighed.
“Love is exasperating.” Marlene attempted to console you.
“No, love is embarrassing.” You grumbled.
The next few days with Remus just improved your friendship once more.
The library dates were back, and the evening strolls around the courtyard too.
You knew your feelings would never go away, selfishly— you never wanted them too.
You wished for them to grow and flourish, weaving into your ribs and spine— becoming permanent.
But you knew selflessly that you couldn’t have him.
Suddenly— a light knock on your dorm door broke you out of your cocooned thoughts.
You were the only one there, maybe someone forgot their key?
“Y/N, could I steal you for a moment?” James asked, smiling pleasantly as he pulled you inside.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yes, well— it will be as soon as this conversation is finished— hopefully.” He started.
“You’re scaring me..” Your brows furrowed gently.
“I’m not at all meaning too, I’m here to propose something.”
“Mhm?”
“You like Remus, I like Regulus.”
“I- I don’t like Remus.”
James paused, “…Sure.”
“Anyways— Lily and Mary were talking to me and they mentioned that the way they got each others attention was by dating other people to basically make them see how theyd treat each other if they were together.” James rambled, taking a breath before his next point.
“So— you and I, we date each other for like— a month or something and then hopefully we will get the attention of our respective suitors and then it’s happily ever after!” James finished, and quite convincingly too.”
“James— I promised Remus no feelings, he doesn’t want me.”
“That’s the thing, he thinks he is doing you both a favor by being stubborn and staying friends. News flash— he’s not. The bloke is pining, burning, and perishing.” James nearly was gasping for air.
“I don’t know..”
“Please? pleasepleasepleaseplea—l
“Fine! Fine. I’ll fake date you for a little while.” You caved in, but in reality you’d do anything for James.”
“Thank you! Thankyouthankyouthank—“
“It’s no problem, James— but seriously, no feelings.”
“Absolutely no feelings other than happy and friendly ones.” He insisted cheerfully.
“I’m not into extroverts anyways.”
“And I’m into french accents, you’re safe.” He smiled, before taking your hand and strutting into common room with you.
This was going to be embarrassing.
