Outfit Replacements (America's Most Eligible Book 2)

I think that the outfits in book 2 are at the same level as the ones from book 1 (maybe slightly better).

"Sweater n' Shorts":

It's not bad but I don't know if Charlie would wear the sweater. The sleeves just end in a weird place and I think she would rather have full sleeves that she could roll up instead.

I think the way the bottom looks is what makes me not like the dress.

I like this outfit, I would just switch the necklace to something else.

Again, the cutouts are weird. I also think the bra part looks a little interesting, mostly because of the cutouts.

Since it is supposed to be a prom dress, it is not my favorite and I think that Charlie would prefer a longer dress.

I do like the outfit. I would just get a rid of the jacket or make the sleeves longer and possibly zip it up a bit.

I like the outfit, I would just get a rid of the jewelry on the arm and replace the belt with a silver one.

It's not my favorite winter outfit. But I still don't like it, mostly because of the tights.

That means that for a work to be eligible for copyright in the USA, it must satisfy three criteria:

1. It must be creative. Copyright does not apply to non-creative works (say, a phone book listing everyone in a town in alphabetical order), even if the work required a lot of labor. Copyright does not protect effort, it protects creativity. You can spend your whole life making a phone book and get no copyright, but the haiku you toss off in ten seconds while drunk gets copyright’s full protection. 2. It must be tangible. Copyright only applies to creative works that are “fixed in a tangible medium.” A dance isn’t copyrightable, but a video of someone dancing is, as is a written description of the dance in choreographers’ notation. A singer can’t copyright the act of singing, but they can copyright the recording of the song. 3. It must be of human authorship. Only humans are eligible for copyright. A beehive’s combs may be beautiful, but they can’t be copyrighted. An elephant’s paintings may be creative, but they can’t be copyrighted. A monkey’s selfie may be iconic, but it can’t be copyrighted.

The works an algorithm generates —be they still images, audio recordings, text, or videos — cannot be copyrighted.

For creative workers, this is huge. Our bosses, like all bosses, relish the thought of firing us all and making us homeless. You will never love anything as much as your boss hates paying you. That’s why the most rampant form of theft in America is wage theft. Just the thought of firing workers and replacing them with chatbots is enough to invoke dangerous, persistent priapism in the boardrooms of corporate America.

1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played? 

I started playing in 2019, and my first book was Rules of Engagement.

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

I joined the fandom in January 2022. I had taken a break from Choices for a while but went back in November/December 2021 and started trying to look for fanfiction for Open Heart as I wanted to see if there was more Open Heart content, so I turned to Tumblr and AO3 and decided to join.

3- How did you pick your blog name? 

It was the first thing I could think of. I’m not creative with naming things (if anyone remembers my original blog name, it was openheartfanfiction because I only wrote for OH and couldn’t think of anything else). So I was like, “I’m a fan of Aaron Tveit. His fans are called Tveiter Tots, so why not?”  I then added writing because most of the content I make is fanfiction.

4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it! 

It was actually a little intro to my account, but I had deleted it a while back so now it’s this. It is not my favorite. I would definitely redo it now that I have had more experience with text fics. 

5- Do you write fanfiction, create fan art, or are you one of those really gifted people who do both? 

While I would love to make fan art, currently, I only write fanfiction.

6- How long have you been creating for Choices and for any other fandoms?

I have been writing/creating Choices content since 2022. But I have been writing for Star Wars and Adam Driver Characters since 2020 (even though I am on hiatus from it, and I don’t know if/when I will pick it back up). I also wrote some Marvel fanfiction with a friend in 2021. More recently, I have started writing stuff for Aaron Tveit and Cillian Murphy characters on my non-Choices blog.

7- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to create for?

Right now, I would say either Red Carpet Diaries or America’s Most Eligible is my favorite. But I also like Open Heart, High School Story, and others. I want to create more for RCD and AME, but I think I like creating content for OH.

8- Share your first Choices fanfic or fan art that you posted with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were creating it today?

Since I already mentioned the text fic, I chose the next fic I did. It was for my Open Heart MC’s (Claire Evans) Birthday. And I would 100 percent go back and rewrite it. I like the idea of what I wrote, but I don’t like its execution, and I need to go back and rewrite it.

9- What is your favorite piece of fiction or art that you created? 

Right now, I have these two favorites. While I like writing angst, I enjoy writing fluffy stuff like these two fics. Plus, it’s my MC and OC who are besties (Claire and Adelaide), so I had to choose one from both of them.

10- Do you have a fic/art that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to do well but found it could use a little more love?

This was a fic that I wasn't expecting to get notes on. I was still very new to the fandom at the time and hadn’t really interacted with anyone at that point, so seeing people like it was a shock.

Something that I wish I could do better is the content I make for my RCD and AME MCs (Brooklyn Moore and Charlie Howard). I love that people like my OH content, but I don’t see many people liking content from those books (which is fine if you don’t like it).

11- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why? 

Fluff. While writing Angst and Smut can be fun, writing fluff is a nice escape from real life.

12 - Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

Yes, I have put some things from myself into my MCs and OCs, like some personality traits, some physical traits, and some hobbies/things they enjoy. So, I do see myself sometimes, but not always.

13 - What element of writing/art do you struggle with most?

Either coming up with titles or writing bits in between the big parts. Usually, one of the last things I do is come up with a title because I can never think of one. Also, writing the “less important” parts in between the parts I want to write is what gets me sometimes and is why I have unfinished fics that I have abandoned.

14 - Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

I have some fics that I had done some previews for (last year or the year before) that I would like to finish at some point. Right now, I am trying to finish a Dancing with the Stars AU for Adelaide and Tobias, so that is my writing priority.

15 - If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to see your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you show them first? 

Maybe it depends on who it is. While I don’t think anyone would be too judgemental, I would still be very nervous to show them in fear of them hating it or something like that. I wouldn't show them the smut or some of my earlier fics but the fluff I would.

16 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing or art? Are there any artists that influence you?

Not really. I have liked a lot of people’s work, but I don’t think that it really influences my writing at all though.

17- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series? 

I think my fic “Coming to You” would be fun to see as a movie. Seeing how Ethan and Claire’s relationship grows on screen when they’re in two different worlds would interest me.

19- Do you write original fiction or create non-fandom art? 

I have thought about trying to write an original fiction book, but right now I don’t. I do currently write some original screenplays as I am in college for screenwriting.

20-  What other hobbies do you have?

I like to paint and listen to music. I like to take drives in the morning to get coffee and relax or at night with my dogs. I like to watch movies and musicals (like Moulin Rouge and Six). 

21: BONUS - tell us anything you’d like (if you want to)

Completed Books and Mini Opinions

The Elementalists: I LOVED this series it had flaws but it was super fun to play!! I love my powerful MC and my sarcastic twin, and I'm a sucker for elemental magic systems and magic centered schools imao

A Courtesan of Rome: AAAAAAAH WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT THIS BOOK BESIDES HOW AMAZING IT WAS!! I feel like this was a historic book that felt accurate y'know and ofc ACOR MC is literally *chef's kiss* just an absolute baddie we have no choice but to stan <3 she had all of Rome on her knees as she should!!

Crimes of Passion 1 and 2: I think objectively the original book was better but this one was more replayable/entertaining solely because of the Thorne siblings but i wish the mystery and the plot twist were handled better in Book 2 specifically

Bloodbound Series: UGH IT WAS INCREDIBLE!! It still had flaws and I would have added/rewritten things but it's definitely one of the best and most satisfying series PB has ever written

Ride or Die: IT WAS AMAZING A+ I'm so sad the sequel got canceled it deserved so much more :(

Nightbound: IT WAS PRETTY GOOD i miss them already and want a sequel now. It's very replayable which I always appreciate

Thanks for the tag @sohkrates! I fear my Work in Progress list is significantly shorter than yours, mostly because my tabletop work is limited to the occasional game/supplement and videos. The rest of the time I'm writing book(s)!

In Progress

Next video: ??? I spent a lot of energy on Spire and now I'm just searching for an angle. I think it might end up just being about my system-neutral supplement "Finley: A Midwest Fantasy" and how it's something of a goodbye to Indiana for me.

Next game: Not working on any tabletop writing right now!

Book: The pitch for working title Ravenous is "What if countries exploited during America's Cold War coups tried to assassinate Henry Kissinger, and also he was the pope, and also the Church created Kaiju for the US military?" Basically doing a full rewrite because the first draft was not working, but hope to have around 70k of that by November!

Trunked/Maybe Will Return To

Games: I was collaborating with Dani Belonia on a Resistance game last year, and we just never got around to finishing it, but I think a lot of the setting stuff from that was really neat. The hydraheron from Finley actually originated there. Hopefully I can continue to recycle some of those ideas in future work!

Books: I've written about a book and a half that very few people have seen. The first, The Chains Nothing Can Break was my first novel and still is the creative work I'm most proud of. Marathis colonize Britain with steampunk mechas, a satire of both steampunk and adventure stories set in the Raj. Maybe one day we'll find a publisher. The other book, which I never titled, was about paleontologist necromancers who used magic crystals to do archeological digs, selling the bones of dinosaurs to be used in a war against sexy moth aliens. It was GREAT concept with TERRIBLE execution, ended up in some not great narrative territory, so I canned it. Will try to pull some stuff from it in the future, but yeah, sometimes you gotta take the L.

Would Like to Be In Progress

Games: Would still like to work on something with the resistance system, just because I think that's such a fun way to manage damage and consequences in a narrative-first format. But yeah, unfortunately I'm just better at setting/fluff than mechanics! Been writing for 6 years at this point, and only designing games for 2 (not counting D&D homebrewing lol). Anyway, if you're looking for a setting/fluff writer, I love that shit.

Videos: I definitely want to do something with Heart, just because Howitt and Taylor do a great job of building evocative worlds, but it'll be a while yet before I'm ready for another long one. I thought I might tackle Gubat Banwa, but it seems like DragonKid11 has that covered. Plus tactical games are a bit harder for me to get into, but who knows, maybe someday! I also posited the idea of doing a Tabletop 101 series last year, where I took a look at games that were considered foundational to the indie scene as it currently stands and why they were important. I think that might be a cool project, but like, how many more dives into Apocalypse World do we need at this point?

Books/short stories: Just off the top of my head- prophesied chosen one who is Dual Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid comes to slay private health insurance; fantasy retelling of the 2nd Punic War; examination of Lord of the Rings from the Orc/Haradrim pov largely based off of Charles W. Mills The Wretched of Middle Earth

Not like the Movies

Series: America's Most Eligible (Between Books 1 and 2)

Paring: Derek Taylor x F!MC (Charlie Howard)

Summary: After getting to their hotel room, Derek and Charlie realize they only have one bed and it gets a little awkward.

A/N: This was from an anon ask which had multiple prompts from the "one bed" prompts.

Charlie and Derek were spending a lot of time together between seasons 10 and 11 of America’s Most Eligible. One of the weeks between the two seasons was spent in Paris as a part of Charlie’s prize. 

With Charlie winning season 10, she won the trip to Paris and invited Derek onto the trip with her, as he was the one she was the closest with. Derek was very grateful that Charlie invited him on the trip and was a little surprised but wasn’t going to question it.

Their first day was spent looking around the city, spending time in coffee shops and different clothing stores. Their hotel where they were staying at for the week was not ready for them when they had originally arrived, which wasn’t that much of a problem, but more of an annoyance.

After spending most of the day out in the streets of Paris, both Charlie and Derek were ready to head to bed. They were walking down the street towards their hotel with their bags in hand.

“I can’t wait to lay down in bed.” Charlie said.

“I agree. I need some sleep in a big bed all to myself.”

The pair laughed and checked into their room. They carried their bags up to their room and Derek tried to be smooth with opening the door but couldn’t open it on his first try and had to set his things down to unlock the door, which made Charlie laugh.

“What’s so funny?” Derek asked.

“You. Clearly trying to act cool isn’t your forte.”

Derek playfully scoffs. “Hey, I can be cool. Just not right now.”

Charlie rolls her eyes as Derek unlocks the door and lets her in the room first. When she walks in, she notices the single queen sized bed. She moves out of the way for Derek, who doesn’t pay attention to the beds as he brings their stuff in.

“Did they give us the correct room?” Charlie asked while pointing towards the bed.

Derek looks up and notices the single bed in the middle of the hotel room. He sighs and drops their bags.

“They must have. Unless something happened to our spot.”

“But AME was supposed to be in charge of it. You would think that the hotel shouldn’t have been a problem. And if there was, they should have told us or had a better solution.”

Derek shrugs and brings their bags over to the bed and Charlie pulls out her phone to try and contact the team from America’s Most Eligible. Her call gets sent straight to voicemail. Derek walks over to her and sees her try to call again, which leads to another straight voicemail.

“That’s weird. I know they’ve got things that they’re trying to do with the all star season and a new showrunner but you’d think they would answer a call from their recent winner.” Derek said

“And with both of us returning for the next season, you’d think they would want to stay on our good side.”

Charlie puts her phone away and flops onto the bed. Derek takes his bags and starts to unpack a little. Charlie lifts her head up to look at him.

“How do you have the energy to unpack?”

Derek continues to unpack some of his belongings. “I really don’t but I feel the need to make this feel a little more lived in.”

Charlie lays her head back down. “While there is only one bed, I’ve got to admit it is pretty comfy.”

Derek chuckles and finishes taking out some of his belongings. He then turns to look at Charlie on the bed. He then motions for her to move so he can also lay on the bed.

“This totally doesn’t feel like the movies.” Derek said.

“I think our lives are already like a weird movie. I don’t think this would be a big part of it.”

Derek nods. “True. But if it was, I’m glad that it was with you.”

Charlie looks at him and turns her body towards Derek. The pair stare into each other's eyes. Derek’s hazel orbs staring into Charlie’s blue ones. The two then laugh at each other’s staring. 

“What are we doing?” Derek asked while laughing.

“I don’t know.”

The two continue to laugh for a minute before finally calming down. Derek wraps an arm around Charlie’s shoulder and pulls her closer to him. They look at each other again before they clear their throats and Derek removes his arm.

“Sorry.”

“No. You’re good. Everything’s fine.”

The two lay on the bed in awkward silence for a moment before Charlie gets up and grabs some clothes from her bag.

“I’m gonna go shower.” Charlie says as she points at the bathroom and heads towards it.

“Ok.” 

Once Charlie closes the door to the bathroom, Derek covers his face with his hands and sighs. He removes his hands from his face and sits up. He then goes over to his bag and pulls out some clothes and changes into them.

About an hour later, Charlie and Derek are lying down in bed, facing in opposite directions. Both of them are wide awake and silent.

All the lights in their room are turned off and all that is heard is the sound of the small desk fan on its highest setting. Charlie looks around the room and sighs before turning over towards Derek.

“Are you asleep yet?” Charlie asks.

“No.” 

Derek turns over and the two of them stare into each other’s eyes again. They both look each other up and down before ramming their lips into each other. Kissing each other with intense passion before pulling away to look at each other again and catch their breaths.

“Can we do that again?” Charlie asks.

Derek smiles and pulls her in again and kisses her before pulling up the covers to the bed. Charlie and Derek get intertwined with each other as they continue to makeout through the night.

This is my OC Ash Lee Davenport back for Bloodbound Book 2, made with assets from Sims 4 Custom Content creator @mnvlz, as I used their Top surgery scars.

Since there's another six months between the first book at the second, I think Ash would have relented and allowed Adrian to help him afford Double incision top surgery.

Then this three-piece suit from America's Most Eligible matches close enough to the blue suit that the female MC wears in the boardroom, though there are no pink accents. I was going to colour-match the handkerchief to pink, but the smaller an item is, the harder it is to recolour and edit in Photoshop.

The kidnapping scene in book two is more straightforward to colour a suit for, as MC just wears a red satin dress labelled Scarlet Stunner. For that, I just used the maroon suit from Nightbound and recoloured it in Photoshop.

I have to say, I love putting Mr Davenport in blue clothing for regular mortal things and red for vampire-related events.

I find that more books that have darker tones have a red premium outfit option, so it fits well.

I seem to like editing these, so here's the Gold Rush outfit, edited from America's Most Eligible, with a glittery black texture from Adobe stock. I also debated using the white tux, but it's not glitzy enough for Vegas.

I think it was my hardest to edit so far, though. There's only so much I can trace floral patterns in Photoshop before I get cross with how fiddly it is.

It's why the floral part of the left cuff is missing. It didn't even look right when I mirrored it, So it's asymmetrical instead.

For the next Chapter, I had the idea that since Cal wolfed out, Ash would give him his jacket since his shirt is ripped beyond covering him.

It's rare to see the MC's in Bloodbound in anything that doesn't have a Blazer since it's an Executive romance book, but to achieve this, I took the black shirt from Foreign Affairs and copied the gold leaf pattern onto the belt, as well as making sure I copied the gold buttons onto the shirt.

For the Tribunal about Gaius, Ash and Adrian had a serious revelation about their relationship, so I recoloured the Waistcoat to be like Adrian's because He claimed Ash was his boyfriend out loud during a fight (He's not realised the implications yet...)

But I thought it would be nice to make it look like Ash borrowed one of his, no doubt, many black waistcoats.

It's the same suit as the one from AME, but the watch that resembles the one Adrian describes to Kamilah, that he bought in the 1920's is from Foreign Affairs.

The next outfit is almost cheating, but it raises an important thing for me.

What if we could add Hats, like we could hair and other things like Watches or different trousers/boxers for the MC in Wardrobe?

Since we have another encounter in the 1920's-themed Shrike (whether you chose to let the Prisoners go so they could set it on fire or not), I couldn't help but add the trilby to Ash's already Adrian-centric outfit.

So, For this next chapter, there's a bowling scene, and there are not enough clothes in book 2 for me, so I made a bowling shirt from the polo and chinos in AME.

Choices need to make more variants of light-coloured clothing; they're all really dark and hard to recolour...

The next chapter to have a new outfit is the Paris chapter, but it was super hard finding a light-coloured shirt. The one I used was from Foreign Affairs.

By this point, Ash has been running all around fighting against Prejudice from Vampire hate, homophobia and transphobia, so he's tired. He's also discovered many a secret about himself being a Bloodkeeper, and one other I won't spoil for now 😉.

His outfit for the Vampire crypts is much more relaxed and informal, originally from AME.

I didn't edit this one, as I love it as it is. The starry-looking hoodie matches the narrative of Adrian and Ash travelling around the Paris night scene under the stars.

For Serafine's club, Ash is just wearing a simple black shirt from Foreign Affairs to emulate the strappy dress and choker that the MC wears, but also Adrian's brand pendant, with the cord from the Flamingo shorts and the striped shirt with a crystal necklace.

I just used the cord to add to the pendant and made the shirt wider for Ash's physique change, but it's not edited any more than that.

The next one is seriously fun, though I'm sure Adrian would baulk if Ash wore this outside of Victoriana vampire balls. It's so... cliché!

It's from the romance vampire novel Immortal Desires. Some of the clothing for the more Vampire-themed stuff is pretty useful for this, even if it's a highschool themed book.

Ash only wore it for Dracula's party, and I guess you'd be inconvenienced by the cape, so It's not an outfit we'll see him in until the Solstice ball, at least.

For this next outfit, I actually took the shirt from Foreign Affairs and then warped the Puffer jacket from the Bloodbound Female MC Outdoorsy outfit to make something that I'm sure Ash would wear to be touristy.

His expression is worried because the Island of Midieya also has The massive Order base on it, but also because Prague was another layer of stress on top of New York under siege. His Cousin Parker is still in New York, after all...

For the next couple of Chapters, it's hard to know which of the outfits Ash Lee would have packed in his suitcase as they rushed around the world on their crusade.

In fact, this was the hardest outfit to put him in for the story, as a mixed trans guy doesn't really fit with the whole white-knight-against-the-Darkness stuff that reminds me of the Knights Templar but has a Neo-Nazi flavour to it. The original later chapters it's based on have little representation for each of the Order soldiers unless you look at the sprite files, and even then, there's hardly any that look anyone like him.

It's clear this is terrible for Ash to have to do, and he's terrified to wear it for the mission.

For the evening following the counter-raid to the Order, Ash would be- as I would be grateful to change clothes, and I was getting tired of writing him in the same outfits I've already edited him in, so we have a new one!

They're still in Greece, but Ash is feeling the breezeless evening, so there's this gradient T-shirt combo from It Lives in the Woods/It Lives Beneath.

I removed the bead necklace, as Ash doesn't usually wear much jewelry except for the Brand pendant that Adrian gave him, and it seems a bit too young for him since the books are teenager based and he's twenty-six.

Because when they return to New York, all they have is what's in the suitcases, I put Ash in his hoodie from Paris but edited the black hood that goes with the hoodie in It Lives Beneath to be Grey Marl so Ash could have it up as protection from the dust and light debris.

For the Abandoned Mall fight chapter, the original MC outfit is denim and lace. I just swapped it for an outfit from Ride or Die, which also appears in America's Most Eligible. The double denim and chains combo.

(Peep the engagement ring from Adrian on his left hand. I edited it from the ring box in the Bloodbound Solstice files but changed it to a silver band in Photoshop by removing the original ring and adding a styled filter in Photoshop, so it looked painted like the other assets.)

1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played? 

I started playing Choices when it was first introduced after I saw the promos on HSS and HWU. Ofc the first book I played was High School Story!! 

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

I joined the Choices fandom because of Thomas Hunt LMAO. After playing the Thomas dates in HWU, I looked him up on Tumblr to see if there was any fan content, and there was (HUGE shoutout to @lovealexhunt and @gutsfics because their works were the first ones I saw). Through following a few Thomas Hunt fan accounts, I found some other stuff in the fandom, like CFWC, and decided to read some other really popular stories, and it just snowballed lol.

3- How did you pick your blog name? 

I wanted something that wasn’t fandom-specific so I could post content for any of the many fandoms I’m in. And peonies are my favorite flower! 

4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!  

The first first post in my archive is a reblog of a One Direction fanfic. My first original post was about the show Miraculous Ladybug. 

5- How long have you been writing fanfiction?

Ooh. A long time. Sixth or seventh grade, so nine or ten years? 

6- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to write about?

My favorite Choices book is America’s Most Eligible, but my favorite book to write about is Red Carpet Diaries/Hollywood U. I think I just like reading and writing about stories in the film industry since that’s what I do, lol. 

7- Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were writing it today?

I still like it! But, if I were writing it today, I would probably make it third person instead of first. It’s still cute, though!

8- What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Okay, probably a tie between What If It’s Now? and Love Lost.

9- Do you have a fic that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to be but found could use a little more love?

I think there are a few I thought would’ve gotten a little more attention when I first posted them, but by now, I don’t really think that anymore. 

10- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why? 

FLUFF. I mean, I pretty much only write fluff right now; I just love it so much! 

11- Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

Oh yeah. I think I see myself the most in my RCD/HWU MC, Jackie. In the HWU Universe, she’s a film student, like me, and in both universes, she’s an actor, like me! 

12- What element of writing do you struggle with most?

Finding the time to do it 🥲 Other than that, probably just get started. I tend to psych myself out, especially with bigger projects. 

13- Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

So. Many.

14- If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to read your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you recommend they read first? 

It depends on who it is, but I’d probably let them. As for what I’d recommend, it also depends on the person. Honestly, might just send them my AO3 and let them decide ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

15 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing? 

Probably more than I know! I’m sure there are plenty of authors who influence me subconsciously. But, I would say I tend to be influenced by classic novels like The Great Gatsby and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

16- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series? 

Forever Sounds Perfect! I would love to just watch Ethan propose to Sydney 🥺

17- Do you write original fiction? 

Yeah! I mostly do screenwriting, but I also do fiction and poetry writing. 

18 -  What other hobbies do you have?

Hiking, reading, and yoga!

Choices Review: America's Most Eligible

I've decided to take on the challenge of giving my reviews of the Choices books I've played, whether I have a lot to say about it or not. I'll pick a series I'm a fan of: America's Most Eligible.

For those who don't know, book 1 of the series has you playing a last-minute contestant for a reality TV show where the winner wins $100,000. Book 2 focuses on you returning for All-Stars season (which, like many all-stars TV shows, mostly brings back the most recent cast), and book 3 focuses on a wedding competition starring you and your LI versus two enemies that definitely aren't in love.

Book 1 was AWESOME: it was sexy and your choices mattered--but there were issues, in my opinion. The boy next door from last season (I'll just use his default name: "Adam") is supposed to be the bad boy. Occasionally he's seen brooding, but I never really bought into his tough guy act since he's a sweetheart IRL. I get that this is because we spend a lot of time with him off stage, but I wish it was sold a bit better, especially if he's trying to keep himself from crushing on MC--which brings me to another thing. Regardless of if you like him or not, you'll find he has an interest in you, be it platonic or romantic. If you're into him, it feels like love at first sight. If not, it can come off as creepy. I was into him, so it didn't matter, but I realized how weird the situation would be be if I wasn't. This is because the same is said for Jen, a member of the crew who shadows you and advises you on what to do on the show. She means well, but she's not supposed to take a romantic interest in you at the risk of her job. It's especially disturbing when she tries to subvert this by suggesting you practice kissing her for a kissing competition on the show. Along with this, the "your choices mattered" statement I made is kind of untrue. If you make a LOT of choices that please your castmates, they'll become allies, and thus they'll vote for you to win. But the issue is that this takes FOREVER, and thus your only way to win is by doing a unanimous vote. If you have two or less allies (which I did), this costs 50 diamonds, making it one of the most expensive choices on the app! Someone let me know if they had enough allies to only have to pay 15 diamonds.

As for book 2, it was pretty much the same, just with a few new characters, though more insanity and less sexiness. Doing an all-stars season, you meet some new faces, but unlike the previous season, where you could make out/sleep with several of your castmates, it's just condensed to your 4 main love interests and two other characters (one of them being a new face). As such, the passion doesn't feel as naughty and feels a bit more streamlined. Then towards the end of the book, one of the villains gives you a somewhat sympathetic backstory. While they brush it off, you can take it how you want. It's felt kind of out of place, given this feels out of nowhere and undeserved. And AGAIN, you can't win unless you buy your way to a unanimous vote. Overall, it was a fair successor, but not quite as good.

For the final book, you and the LI you chose to marry compete with another duo in a wedding version of AME. Since you're locking it down, the sexy moments are reduced, despite the fact that I'm sure AME would encourage infidelity and last hurrah's for ratings. I was EXTREMELY disappointed by we get a broad stroke of MC's life outside the show. Their mom is featured and they pick from multiple options on whether their dad is involved in their life or not. They also get a fill-in-the-blank profession that makes it feel even more inconsequential. It was a shame that we couldn't get a chapter of two of MC at their job or with their family for a better fleshed-out backstory. Possibly worst of all, the writers of the book decided to make the two new romantic lovers from book 2 become serious love interests who have feelings for you. I have to mention who they are before I dive in deeper: Bianca and Slater. Bianca as a love interest makes sense since she was there since book 1, but it feels weird if you chose to eliminate her early and spent most of your time with Teagan instead in book 1, only for Bianca to replace her in book 2. Along with this, Slater being in love with MC feels like it was just made to create drama; they're very playful in book 2 to the point where it's difficult to see them wanting to lock down MC after all the issues between them. And the writers decide to make it a rough decision; in contrast to "Red Carpet Diaries" where you're allowed to get married and have an open relationship, polygamy and open relationships are not an option here. It's very disappointing, especially when this is supposedly intended to be blackmail material against you at the last minute.

Overall, I love the series, but the quality did seem to go down with time. Book 3 feels completely different in tone, and doesn't sizzle like the previous books. But hey, it was GOC and interesting, so I can't be too upset!
