I'm constantly torn between horror and astonishment about how utterly vile some people get about things that haven't happened yet and never may. How do you have such strong opinions on the events of a show that hasn't aired yet. At least wait until you actually know what to be upset about before getting the pitchforks out.
I know, I know that would require rational though and that's not what we're here for, but I will honestly never understand why some people take so much pleasure in being angry, especially about things that aren't even a thing yet. How do you lot not get ulcers?
#this is exactly why i usually come into fandom after everything is said and done canon wise#at least then the issues aren't usually entirely imaginary#interview with the vampire#amc iwtv#but also#mary & george

Fandom Focus #41
Red, White & Royal Blue - This one is not leaving me alone honestly. Everytime I think it is, that it's fading, it somehow reignites. And honestly I'm not unhappy about it. I love this movie, and the book, and Alex and Henry so much.
Shadowhunters (mainly Malec) - So I went on a Shadowhunters binge a couple of weeks ago...honestly it was both good and bad. There are good parts of the show (mainly Malec, honestly), but there have always been parts I majorly disliked or even out-right hated (especially as a book fan). On the re-watch I found more to hate/dislike and that upsets me. On the other hand, Malec are just the fucking best and perfection in that show, as are Izzy and Maia. So I focus on that. So reading Malec fics for the win!
Interview with the Vampire 2022 - Um...yeah I've re-watched the show like 3 times in the past few weeks, on a loop...it's back bitches and I cannot wait for season 2! I hope to write some more of my current fic series for it too. God I miss this show.
Mary & George - I went into this show with like, the expectation of watching Nicholas Galitzine being gay and Julianne Moore getting to say fuck and those being the best parts and it being mid... INSTEAD I got one of the best period dramas I've ever seen and I cannot stop thinking about it. It was a fantastic drama, and also taught me so much about that period of history...go watch it if you can, it's FABULOUS!
The ones on the back-burner at the minute are Shadow & Bone show/Six of Crows (bought the collectors edition of it and began re-reading it), and Heartstopper too (season 3 WHEN?!). Also begun a re-watch of The Vampire Diaries for the first time in a while and omg it is soooooo 2000s but it's such good fun.

Turn marching band au
my high school didn't have a marching band, just a regular band, and i wasn't in it (i was an athlete LOL) so this is based off of my one year of experience in sixth-grade band haha. (i played the clarinet btw, in case that's relevant)
washington is the exhausted band director
ben plays the trumpet. why? idk, it seems like his vibe
caleb is DEFINITELY percussion
anna seems like a clarinet kinda gal... first chair, of course
abe plays something dumb like the triangle just to get the class credit
john andre plays the flute, ofc! (and every other instrument. he's a theatre kid, he gets the solos)
hewlett plays the piano VERY enthusiastically
simcoe isn't even in the band but is at every rehearsal for mysterious reasons
abigail plays the bass clarinet. she's underrated like her instrument, but lowkey carries every song
peggy isn't in the band. she does ~choir~
robert townsend plays the sax. he's cool like that
mary plays the oboe and is surprisingly girlboss at it
robert rogers plays the flute only because john andre also plays the flute and he wants to bother and stalk him
benedict arnold plays the trombone. he thinks he should get every solo, but he is wrong (and no one wants to hear a trombone solo anyway!)
lafayette plays the FRENCH horn (LOOOL)
hamilton plays the trumpet and talks ben's ear off about politics every rehearsal
baker plays the bassoon, because no one else wanted to and he took one for the team
and richard woodhull is that One Annoying Parent who spams washington with meddlesome emails about how abe should have gotten every solo

I'm disappointed in the reception of the show on Netflix. It didn't seem to make as much of a splash as I expected it to. I don't anticipate the show to grow too much more past where it is already. The show didn't make the top ten viewed list like several other AMC shows did. What do you think deters people from watching? There have been recent shows on the top ten list that have black leads (Supercell, Average Joe), so I don't think it's that. The Vampire Diaries and Vampire Academy were on the list forever when released in Netflix so it isn't a loss of interest in vampires either. I thought it might be the homosexual nature of the show, but shows like Fellow Travelers, Red, White, and Royal Blue, Mary and George, and Our Flag Means Death had a pretty big following, maybe not on Netflix, but in general. I mean no disrespect by saying this, but do you think Anne Rice just isn't as relevant today? I don't get it. Do you think it will gain momentum on Netflix or continue to be for the small group of fans?
*sighs*
Okay, to just comment on the "deterring"... I don't think IWTV is deterring.
But IWTV is NOT a show that you can watch while scrolling your phone.
I personally don't care very much if "Anne Rice" is relevant today, or not. I think her ideas are indeed a great yarn, and we are lucky Rolin recognized that.
But the show tackles existential questions, while being an intricate puzzle. It has social and racial commentary stacked on metaphors and in-show set-design hints.
That is not everyone's cup of tea. And that's fine.
Which is why it is SO GOOD to know it is NOT a Netflix original.

“It’s a bit ironic, you know,” Henry says, gazing up at it. “Me, the cursed gay heir, standing here in Victoria’s museum, considering how much she loved those sodomy laws.” He smirks. “Actually . . . you remember how I told you about the gay king, James I?” “The one with the dumb jock boyfriend?” “Yes, that one. Well, his most beloved favorite was a man named George Villiers. ‘The handsomest-bodied man in all of England,’ they called him. James was completely besotted. Everyone knew. This French poet, de Viau, wrote a poem about it.” He clears his throat and starts to recite: “‘One man fucks Monsieur le Grand, another fucks the Comte de Tonnerre, and it is well known that the King of England, fucks the Duke of Buckingham.’” Alex must be staring, because he adds, “Well, it rhymes in French. Anyway. Did you know the reason the King James translation of the Bible exists is because the Church of England was so displeased with James for flaunting his relationship with Villiers that he had the translation commissioned to appease them?” “You’re kidding.” “He stood in front of the Privy Council and said, ‘Christ had John, and I have George.’”
“Red, White & Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston
Nicholas Galitzine Joins Julianne Moore In Sky & AMC Series ‘Mary & George’ About Royal Court Intrigue In King James I’s England; Filming Underway Nicholas Galitzine (Purple Hearts) has been cast opposite Julianne Moore in Sky and AMC’s buzzy period drama Mary & George about powerful royal family favorites Mary Villiers and her son George. Filming on the drama series is now underway in the UK. Oscar winner Moore will play Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, who in 17th century England molded her beautiful son, George (Galitzine), to seduce King James I and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest, most titled and influential mother and sons England had ever seen.

Fandom Focus #42
Young Royals - After I binged this show it kinda took over my brain. I'm in deep, and I am loving it. Can't believe it took me so long to dive into it but I'm having a great time in this fandom so far!
Interview with the Vampire 2022 - It's a comin'! It's almost time for season 2, we've been fed with teasers and trailers galore and I am so freaking excited for this you have NO IDEA!!! About to be obsessed with this show again for a long time!
Six of Crows/Shadow and Bone - GUESS WHO MET KAZ AND INEJ?!!!! AND HAD A PHOTO WITH THEM?! AND GOT THEM TO SIGN MY COLLECTORS EDITION OF SIX OF CROWS?! It was so fucking amazing, and I got to ask Freddy a question at the panel - he confirmed Kaz is Wylan's father figure and he tried to embody that which I love! Yeah so been reading fics. Knee deep in love with this universe again.
Mary & George - I need to rewatch it. It's circling in my brain honestly. What a good show. Everyone go watch it now (for my USA friends it's coming out on Starz on the 5th, and might well hit pirating sites as well soon if it hasn't already).
Red, White & Royal Blue is still circling my head, don't worry. It will not leave me alone! Jurassic Park is also in my brain (and I may be doing a uni assessment to do with it too), and Heartstopper has a small corner too!
