So, now, im kinda desperate, MADK is now finished and im so... Heartbroken? Amazed? Traumatized?... I feel lotta things, but what rly crushing me is the fact that even tho i would love to discuss the topic w anyone i can't find any fandom of MADK- yeah i get it, gore isnt for everyone and it can be disturbing, even im surprised i liked this kind of thing so much, but that's actually it, it has so well written plot, atmosphere and dynamics, it all just fit perfectly, it blew my mind at isntant... I was going to write this last night but all I could rly manage to do was yell about it on bsky but mutsumi inomata means so much to me and I'm so sad about her passing. I don't rly like to write stuff like this in fear of sounding like I'm making someone else's death about me, but she just had a big impact on me along with a few other artists she worked with.

This drawing was a recent study I did if her artwork last year, I've done many in the past, and I'll always continue to study her work and idk I just wanted to say something about it. Her style was truly unique and it's something I'm always floored about even looking at the same pieces I have for 20+ years, I've got many of her art books and the weathering continent and tales of destiny are two things that changed the core of what I do. She was an amazing artist and Im so sad she's gone :(

I said it on bsky and I'll say here too but I love you Inomata sensei, your influence is always present in everything I draw.

Im rly shy but I just wanna say that despite only being in the fandom for like a month, everyone has been super welcoming and engaging, and just so so nice.

I'm mainly a Bad Main but I've been watching other streamers and its so amazing to see the streamers come together as a community for this block game and create something it feels like everyone can participate in. And it feels like a lot of that reflects as well here on qsmpblr. People are very respectful and are so creative. I love seeing all the different theories, artwork or stories going around and its kind of inspired me as well. I dont think I've been this deep into writing in like 7 years and I've been drawing more for the fun of it. Its just... this community is so fun to be in. Doesn't feel like an obligation and, i know this has been said before but everytime I see someone familiar in my notifs its like I'm getting a smile or a wave from them and it just is really nice. Yall are so damn nice even though I've only been here for about a month and its crazy. Thats not even touching back on just qsmp and the streamers themselves.

as a little baby well i was playing on an ancient webbed site called sketchfu.... i've had deviantart after that then it was pretty much all tumblr twitter instagram.. these days i like using toyhouse 7. how do I start reading batman comics or getting into batman in general?

Wonderful question anon! I love to see people getting into my fave thing ever. Ngl, when it comes to getting people into Batman I am bias a little, because there’s a lot of Batman I haven’t seen yet.

1. When I first got into Batman, I got into it through The Animated Series made in 1992 (with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil). Ive watched that show since I was a baby, but it’s honestly solid minus some of the animation. It sets up most of the characters to date honestly, as most renditions of characters stick with what BTAS wrote about them. BTAS also introduced many villians like Harley Quinn!!

(Speaking of animated shows, I think Batman Beyond is pretty cool. TNBA (the new Batman adventures) isn’t half bad either though I hate the redesigns. TNBA is supposed to be in the same universe, after BTAS’s events).

2. That got me into Batman comics! Honestly, there are so so many Batman comics that it’s hard to pick where to begin with them. There are plenty of origin stories (I think they’re kind boring), and I wouldn’t really read the BTAS comics since they’re more just little adventures, Unless you’re not looking for much content.

Some comics I would reccomend include The Long Halloween (Written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by TIM SALE) and the books that prelude and come after it. Honestly, I’m very bias for Tim Sale since his artwork is some of the best I’ve seen from a dc comic series, but the stories are very captivating and it includes harvey dents origin story. I think fear state is also a pretty cool comic if you like scsrecrow, though other than that I kinda got bored with it..

People talk about ‘The Killing Joke’ being the best comic but honestly I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. It’s kinda just an excuse to hurt a female character and sexualize her and make her 1 dimensional. It made me rly uncomfortable and I would legit avoid the movie too since it includes SA on a paralyzed batgirl. Really gross stuff. Only like, 30 year old neckbeard hardcore dc fans think it’s peak Batman ngl. Of course to all their own.

3. I also would VERY MUCH reccomend the Arkham games (though I’d wait until they’re on sale). I have all four and honestly it’s the most fun I’ve had from a game in sooo long. Amazing atmosphere though I hated the tank fights in Arkham knight sooo much.

I DO like Sally Face !! It’s been a while since I’ve been really into it but it definitely holds a special place in my heart alongside all the other spooky little point and click games i played in my childhood. The artwork is gorgeous and the characters r rly nicely written, and I will never stop loving the idea of fucked up shit going down right under your nose. These kids saw so much shit that they most likely weren’t prepared for (the fucking bologna incident good god lol). A lot of people called the last chapter a rushed disappointment, but I was decently happy with it. It was a bittersweet yet satisfying (to me at least) ending to a story that meant a lot to me. Also I wish I could be Sals friend. Sorry I didn’t have a lot to ramble about, I haven’t played the game in a while, but 2021 me would’ve LOVED this question lol. And feel free to ask me to ramble anytime, I love it when people wanna hear what I have to say :]

retromeda seems to have rediscovered lee sangeun while looking for clips for the channel and genuinely got into the rest of her music too they posted a short about her album gongmudohaga (1995) talking about how it's high art with traditional korean influences and was a complete transformation from having a dance pop idol image into a music artist that composes and writes lyrics for all her own work.

they include a quote from lee sangeun talking about releasing the album:

"i am an in-between person. i see between eastern and western, korean and japanese, reality and unreality, music and visual, and person and person to create art from the space in between."

she studied visual/fine art in new york and music composition in japan and the album is a culmination of that while focusing deeply on korean traditional art. the first korean poem/song recorded is a gojoseon era (which the first korean kingdom and lasted until the year 108 BCE) is gongmudohaga, a song where a woman laments the death of her husband who drowned while crossing a river. the story is an essentially korean one, crossing rivers is a symbol of death in general in korean culture.

in the quote she uses sino-korean character 간 to mean the space between things. this word is colloquially used to mean a period of time, so it's a word that refers to space in both location and time. in the album she looks far into the past and brings it into the present. the musical composition is a mixture of korean traditional, modern westernized, and contemporary music forms specifically in the japanese scene. the album itself is a very elegant exploration of the in-between-ness while having context and substance and craft substantiating the artwork.

she was only 25 years old and it is still one of her most ambitious, craft-heavy, and philosophical albums when she was had been a dance pop star just 4 years ago. it's rly amazing to me to see her career because of how she committed so much to changing herself. she chose to leave an easy version of the same career and instead change into being a serious and respected artist in the same field. she spent years learning the skills necessary to do that and finding her artistic vision but looking back it's rly such a short amount of time where she changed from representing youth and joy and exuberance and visual trends into being an artist that grapples with connection to her culture from the oldest place she can and the grief, love, and beauty that comes from that.
