my stardew valley hot take is that sebastian is NOT one of the teenage coded characters he is a mid 20s king to me. he has stepdad angst which in my experience is really only a thing if you're old enough to remember the step parent coming into your life so he has to be at least like 5 years older than maru imo, who is also an adult. like i know he hangs out with abby and sam who are definitely on the younger end but small towns are just like that. who else is he gonna talk to, shane?? penny?? he's a 25 year old shut in who can only make friends younger than him because he's stunted by depression and i will die on this hill. it makes him relatable.

yknow how when you spend a lot of time with someone you start picking up some of their little language idiosyncrasies without even meaning too? yeah i think binghe would do this with shen qingqiu’s modernisms and references like he doesn’t know what they mean mean but he’s just picked up from context (because he’s a very smart boy) — neither binghe or sqq realize that that is what’s happening bc it just sounds natural to them, and it’s not until shang qinghua is over for tea (and tea) and he realises that binghe knows lots of words that he Should Not Know and that he’s actually keeping up with cumplane’s otaku talk and he’s just like “you shouldn’t know this why do you know this” and binghe just tilts his head at him bc what is this shishu on about now? it’s such a shock to sqq too tho because he didn’t even realise how comfortable he was with binghe like to the point that he was regularly forgetting to speak like a xianxia immortal master and he just like. hides his blush behind his fan. and refuses to comment

yknowwww there is something... deeply uncomfortable about the way mel never speaks directly to viktor in the 'build hextech weapons' scene. she really only speaks to jayce. plenty of people have pointed this out already but like the one scene they actually share a meaningful interaction and she treats him like he's beneath her. all this after jayce has emphasized how important viktor is, that hextech is theirs, together. she unequivocally ices him out, there's no other way to interpret this scene. the way it's shot too - from viktor's perspective, looking up at her, as though to reinforce the same belief in him. like he doesn't even bother expecting respect from her - or anyone from the upper echelon of piltover. he's fully accustomed to being dehumanized by everyone around him at this point. sometimes even by jayce, despite the trust they clearly have in each other.

then of course after this scene is viktor experimenting on himself. it's pretty clear that he has internalized his own dehumanization. crazy.

The funniest thing about Jayce is that while yes, he's juggling other peoples' interests/loyalties, he's only sort of malleable and mostly kind of uncontrollable. People can tell Jayce something and he will in fact listen to it, absorb the new information, but it's a genuine gamble to guess what he does with that information.

Heimerdinger tells him exactly how to avoid punishment for his trial and Jayce DOESN'T do it. Jayce decides to defend himself and the merit of his work. The Medardas want hextech weapons (for varying reasons), Viktor says no, meanwhile Jayce already has blueprints laminated and framed in his room.

Jayce didn't ask to be a Councilor, but he immediately throws himself into rooting out corruption. When Mel tells him he's gonna need to play ball to stay alive politically, Jayce goes, "Ball is life". Then Jayce manages to amass enough political capital to kick off HEIMERDINGER of all people.

Second to Jinx, Jayce is the character that asserts the most agency in the cast. People really try to pull Jayce in this and that direction, but his character, his morals, just who he really is pushes at any supposed binary others try to place him in. The choices he makes always align with his core, and it inevitably puts others in a position to accept the consequences of bringing up the issue to him in the first place.
