Vulcans purr when they sleep comfortably or if they're very relaxed-- but they don't let anyone know that because it's considered a very private thing. In fact, Amanda didn't know until about eight months into her relationship with Sarek, when they were cuddling for the first time and she felt that soft, gentle rumble coming from his chest. Sarek got embarrassed and refused to speak about it, but throughout their marriage she would occasionally hear the sound and it made her quite happy.

Interestingly enough, Vulcan's likewise hiss when they're angry. It's a bit rare to see because of their emotional control, but if you get a Vulcan really pissed off there's a good chance it'll happen. The first time they'd gotten into a real argument, Sarek got flustered and started hissing-- and Amanda tried so hard not to laugh, she really did!! She couldn't help it, though. They had to stop arguing so she could catch her breath.

Jim actually heard Spock purr for the first time while he was doing a complicated math problem at his station. It was a slow day on the bridge, so Jim sat there and listened for a while, just enjoying his presence. Spock never really noticed, but even well into their marriage he thinks about that day all the time.

He hadn't heard Spock hiss until the kal-if-fee, though. It was a subtle noise, just barely audible as he was pressed into the sand... But he heard it. It made it a lot harder to focus but... Oh, he heard it.

My Amanda/Sarek fic is finally done!!!

This took me so much longer than I expected, so thank you to anyone who has stuck with it! It’s been fun to try to get in their heads and explore a slightly different angle of Star Trek!

In this last chapter I couldn’t resist a reference to my favorite Diane Duane quote… I’m sure you’ll all spot it immediately 😉

I'm not the first, and with out a doubt not the last, but I edited Amanda and Sarek into a bunch of vintage paintings/illustrations your welcome. (I made way too many but whatever lol)

The Whitman's add is my favorite but I think all of them turned out pretty okay.

So funny how Spock is like "affection is alien to me, love is unobtainable, I have no idea how I would ever approach a woman" and then you see his parents and their comfortable open PDA, that is the first FIRST thing you see about Sarek and Amanda. It just really puts into perspective how broken and queer Spock really is. Bro is FUCKED up. Spock my black metal queen

I think Sarek and Amanda would both be accepting of Spock's homosexuality if he made them aware of it, but he'd still not want Kirk around them because they'd make it weird in ways completely unrelated to Spock's partner being a man. Any partner of Spock's would have to deal with the most freak4freak parents in law of all time while Spock silently sits nearby or leaves while everyone's distracted.

imagine being average federation citizen doing a wikipedia dive on Amanda Grayson for like a book report or whatever and you click on “spouse” and it links you to a guy who was thee vulcan ambassador to earth for like 200 years and publicly called the klingon ambassador a murderer once and you think huh neat and click on “children” and the first person listed is described as “career criminal, activist and religious evangelist” with a rap sheet as long as your arm ending with him taking the entire government hostage in nimbus iii and then no death date he's just listed as “missing” and the second kid is a starfleet science hero you've seen on the poster of like 7 different documentaries on space netflix and you notice his year of death is listed as 2285 but “years active” goes on like 100 years past that and also he's apparently the reason earth isn't completely underwater right now? then you read his sister's article and it's all “starfleet's first mutineer” “blamed for starting the first federation-klingon war” “lauded for ending the first federation-klingon war” but is weirdly vague on what happened to her after that and the article is edit locked and her year of death has like 6 annotations attached to it

The day I'm not actively thinking about Sarek and Amanda at least three times per hour will probably be the day of my funeral just like. Fyi.

Look at this, finally a new chapter of my Amanda/Sarek fic!

They’re finally on their way to Vulcan and things are starting to fall into place.

Featuring! Zero gravity sex! Sarek trying to talk about his feelings! Amanda learns about Sybok!

I know I said this last chapter, but I think there are just two chapters left! I’m determined to finish this before I start on my McSpirk Big Bang fic so it shouldn’t be too long until it’s done.

love love love all of the shenanigans in the voyage home and how they went like "time continuity? not altering the future? no time for that, we've got to save the whales!"

highlights of jim and bones trying to encourage spock to explore his humanity

and his parents being like *gently push him towards his friends in the playground*

bonus: jim's little fruity stand waiting for spock really got me

not pictured: a hospital heist to save chekov, scotty building an aquarium inside a klingon ship, uhura infiltrating a military vessel, sulu charming a guy to steal a helicopter

the interesting thing about journey to babel is that I legitimately can't tell who's having the worst day.

spock just had his parents show up to his work and embarrass him, briefly thought his dad was a murder suspect until his dad had a heart attack, and his mom said if he didn't choose his estranged father over his job then she'd never forgive him and slapped him.

kirk is trying to be diplomatic when all he wants is to smack everyone's heads together and yell PLAY NICE, and then he gets straight up stabbed and has to make decisions in a battle situation while he's in so much pain he literally can't sit straight.

mccoy gets a good childhood story about spock, but spock and sarek manage to corner him into agreeing to perform an operation he isn't trained for, and then he has to do it while losing his balance every couple of minutes, knowing that he might kill both his friend and his friend's dad if he messes up. and then his other best friend gets stabbed and he has to manage that crisis too!

sarek just saw his estranged son for the first time in years, got into a fight with another ambassador, got accused of killing said ambassador, was forced into displaying vulnerability and admitting that he lied to his wife, and then nearly died like twice.

amanda showed up wanting everyone to get along and instead her son is upset and hiding it badly, her husband is having a health emergency and hiding it badly, and she stands in the corner watching while mccoy is operating on both of them.

and okay, uhura and chekov aren't winning the "worst day ever" competition, but they're not having the best time either. the atmosphere on the bridge would be weird when your science officer is refusing to go help his sick father and your captain is literally hunched over in pain pretending he's okay to make clear-headed decisions. uhura gets yelled at when she can't find the source of the transmission soon enough for kirk's taste, and chekov -- actually, chekov gets to fire phasers this episode, and he seemed pretty pleased about it. maybe we can remove him from the list.

journey to babel is a spy drama, a medical drama, a family drama, and a murder mystery all wrapped into one. and nobody is having a good time.
