one odd thing about going deeper is that I'm no longer satisfied with shallower. and that's, weirdly enough, a net positive. I've self harmed - eh, twice? in the last month. both were well into the criteria that should have got sutures and ignored it; suspect I hit a vein once and was extremely close to muscle, which feels kind of odd. yeah, it's ramped up; yeah, there's a lot of blood and all that kind of stuff. very high risk of infection, potential nerve damage and all that kind of stuff (though I have not got either of them; I scared off an infection that wanted to hang round by chucking quantities of alcohol on it). but at the same time. that's only twice. that's a lot better than previously.

He only furrowed his eyebrows more and crossed his arms when he saw how unconvinced you looked. With small sigh he realized there might be just one way for you to listen to him...

Thinking that because it seems that the Demonic Cultivation was mostly something that Jiang Cheng took care of - either as a way to unload his grief or as taking responsibility of his shixiong's mess - it's possible that the Jiang disciples were the ones that were the best versed in dealing with DC.

Now I am headcanoning that - because JC seems like a man that has shit in hand and runs a tight ship - there's a group within the Yunmeng Jiang trained and experienced specifically to deal with Demonic Cultivation specifically. Like their Spec Ops. They are prepared to come in fast and hot, deal with the issue asap and start the clean-up - armed with talismans made to deflect DC, tame the corpses and help send them on.

So, like, one day WWX hears that there's some Demonic Cultivator causing problems in the area he's hunting with the Lan juniors and goes to deal with it. It still pisses him off that his only lasting legacy is not about his genius or his heroics (or even his good looks), but it's this thing he invented out of horrific desperate need and that's now used to cause chaos and hurt people. So, he feels it's his duty to go there and talk some sense into the person in question.

Except, as soon as he arrives at the scene and ascertains that yeah, the issue is serious and maybe it's better for him to send the disciples back home and call in reinforcements (Lan Zhan), because he can take the DC down, but the clean-up will be immense - when suddenly a group of cultivators land in front of them with a swish of purple robes and gets to work.

The battle is almost sad. In no time at all the fierce corpses are tamed, the cultivator thrown down and bound with talismans, and the cultivators are dispersing across the area to set up burials for the corpses and arrays meant to send the ghosts onwards.

It's all precise and quick, sure steps and short commands. A well-oiled machine with soldier-discipline cleaning the area of resentment. So unlike the usual exuberance and free-style of the Jiang.

Wei Wuxian is kinda stumped. How are these people, and why are they getting in his way? He didn't even manage to get any fun! You, baby Lan disciple, explain!

"They're the Red Brigade", the disciple explains in a hushed voice. "Jiang-zonghzu's personal guard. They hunt Deminic Cultivators."

Red? Ah, their uniforms are adorned with a red ribbon on the shoulder. How sentimental of Jiang Cheng. His shidi really missed him! (or wanted him dead, there's also that option). But no time to contemplate that, because these guys are super efficient and if WWX wants to do any investigation of his own (translate: being his nosy self) he has to haul ass before they clean up everything!

So, he goes to the leader of the pack with an intention of comparing notes! The guy is respectful, but so cold! Eh, is he even a Jiang? So much like A-Cheng! Well, he knows how to deal with people like that - everyone will fold when bothered for long enough!

So, he keeps following the leader and talking bullshit, as his brain takes notes on everything he can see around. The talismans they use, the arrays, the spells - that's all pretty high level and super interesting. Huh, even their clothes are embroidered with talismans (a page out of the Lan book, maybe? Sneaky, Jiang Cheng, sneaky!) and their they use ghost flags...

But something is strange. He can see traces of his own work here and there - and he's used to seeing is tools ironically used across the cultivation world, but these are... kind of not? There are traces of his work, but the sigils are not his, the flags are not his, the talismans are not his. Like someone engineered his work backwards and created something that was similar, but entirely different.

As if someone wanted or needed tools to deal with Wei Wuxian's creations specifically, without the risk of being used against them in the heat of battle. One of the cultivators has a qinqin strapped across her back - the strings are made from metal, so it's not for musical cultivation (huh, so that's how Jiang Cheng came up with the idea of disrupting Su She's music in the Guanyin Temple, it wasn't coincidence.). They came in prepared to counter anything a Demonic Cultivator would throw at them.

Hell, he can admit that going through them on his own wouldn't be easy (because he was always helplessly optimistic about his own skills)...

Oh, Jiang Cheng did his homework.

"Wei-gongzi, can I help you with anything? Shouldn't you be taking the Lan juniors home?"

Uh-oh, he was getting on someone's nerves. Better retreat for now.

But he wasn't about to drop the matter.

The Jiang Sect had a SPECIAL OPS! how was he supposed to leave that be?

He was invested, he wanted to discuss! He needed to compare notes!

I still think its clever, especially if Telemachus is a lykoi cat too, just because hes called little wolf

I didnt do any serious lineart, and the athena emblem was completely from memory, and idk what sword to give him in that lil doodle there

All the normal humans, like odysseus, are normal cats. Any breed bc i am not serious enough about this is do research on what cats where made in which time.

Some limitations I will break for the sake of recognizable character design, but I am also not a good character designer at all, so ehe

Characters who look human but have some godly power, or close lineage with the mythical, will look like normal cats but have patterns or features that separate them from the typical. Like Calpyso, though a typical classic brown tabby, will have some markings that are a sunset palette ombre. Im still thinking about Circe.

In the case of Penelope, she is the daughter of a naiad nymph, so perhaps she would have, idk, sharper ears or webbed paws or smthn, for hydrodynamicism or something like that

Now for gods, they will be cats as well, but they have major features that displays their status. Hermes and Athena have wings, Hermes all across his body and Athena two large owl wings. Aeolus is a cloud..? shaped? like a cat? i'll draw them soon

For the gods whos animals are like, bovine or equine, they will have hooves. Thatll be weird to design

It'll take awhile to turn all the characters into cats but i am determined

Solarpunk and colonial thinking

Keeping my Solarpunk rambles up... And today a more serious topic, but I kinda want to talk about it.

Solarpunk has a weird, weird relation with decolonialism, colonialism and indigenous rights and indigenous knowledge. On one hand, Solarpunk loves to reference some indigenous knowledge, if it is handy. One example that comes to mind is different indigenous American forms of agriculture, like the three sisters. On the other hand, though...

I see a lot of white Solarpunks also kinda converting to the entire idea of "the noble savage". Like "OMG, the indigenous people were so in synch with nature" and stuff like that. Things that are super harmful as a main narrative. And also... as soon as indigenous people do something, that white folks do not like, a lot of white solarpunks will instantly go into full colonizer mode. A good example of that is indigenous hunting practices or practices of animal sacrifice.

And, of course, when it comes to land management, white folks - and that includes a lot of solarpunks - will also very quickly think they know better or know what is better. In Finnland there was a wind farm build recently on sacred Sami land. And, like... That's just not okay.

I mean, I am mostly white. (Like, my great grandmother was Chinese, but I have been raised white and do not look Chinese. So... eh.) But I honestly do think, that we can learn quite a few things from different indigenous cultures (and with that I do not only mean the indigenous tribes of north america). But if we learn from them, we cannot just take knowledge that we like and run with it. Cultural exchange should be that. Exchange. Respectful. Not just appropriation of the three things we like.

Hi! I wanted to ask some pointers on humour writing, as well as *ahem* angst/injury writing. I'm writing a story where the very beginning will have some descriptions of a serious injury. After that, it will turn to humour. I KNOW you already did one about blood loss so if there's nothing more to add, you can ignore the injury part of this lol. (Still would love angst pointers)

SO this is long so there'll be a divider in the middle. I'll do the humor/injury part and then the second bit.

humor

so you think ur a comedian, eh? Humor is really hard to write and I'm gonna be honest, it's something you just gotta roll with. Not everybody has the same sense of humor. Not everybody is gonna pick up on the humor you are trying to write. It's just a fact. That being said, when you consider the intelligibility of your writing, you don't wanna think about that too much.

Like most of my posts, for example. I'm pretty sardonic and affectionately aggressive, which is kind of a theme on tumblr, so most people understand it. If you read the comment section however, you can also pick out the people who just have no fucking clue what's going on.

When you are thinking about the kind of humor you want to put in your story, think about the role you want it to play. Are you writing an honest to God, Jim Carrey slapstick or is the comedy a vessel for something more poignant? either is a good choice, but each has its own pointers.

when you are writing in the humor, the biggest guiding point I can say is 'does it make sense?' the audience might not share the sense of humor, but as long as they can clue into the subtext and still follow the story, that's what matters. Otherwise nobody will be able to follow it.

The humor also needs to make sense for the kind of story. Unless you are intentionally playing with social stereotypes, frat boy jokes don't make sense in a dramatic romance. Just like sarcastic 'tumblr' humor won't make sense in a victorian era, even if your main character is quirky.

At the end of the day, it's your story. Whatever makes sense, still pulls off the funny bits, and tells the story is a-okay.

major injury

yes i already did a post but it's okay! I've actually muted the notifications on that one because oh my god.

angsty injuries are great because it's a good time for some poetry. I like describing open wounds like moldy fruit because they both smell bad, squish if you step on them, and the bloody pulpy stuff kinda looks like raspberry jam. Or pomegranates! describing it like a pomegranate is actually symbolic because of the association with death.

well anyway, describing injuries that are angsty is best with prose and a lot of really sentimental moments. I also did a post on my other acct @pygmi-cygni that I unfortunately haven't transferred over yet about sentence structure? or maybe it was linked into my grammar post? I don't remember but one of my most recent asks also brought it up; playing with sentence structure to convey emotion.

lovely stuff.

dig deep into the character mindsets. Do a lot of yes/no up/down. Like character one has one opinion/emotional feeling and the other one directly parallels it. it adds tension and makes the readers pine after the relationship.

the characters are confused too. like, this person they used to share a house and sleep together and eat together and now. don't?

It feels like a gaping wound. They'll feel maybe lost, a bit disoriented. Probably a lotttt of awkward calls. maybe slip in an accidental pet name? Just, really highlight the sad nostalgia. As if you think of something and understand fundamentally that it's gone forever. that kind of acheyness in your chest.

dual POV works great here too to get both sides of the story.

FLASHBACKS. to the relationship, and then to the exact same situation but they're not talking/not like they were. like 'oh I'm making pancakes, we used to make pancakes on saturdays and then cut to the other character eating pancakes alone also.

And so, we praised Muu's good points. Muu, smiling satisfactorily, looked very cute... It was heartwarming to watch.

Nac: "Well, we've arrived at the cafe, our destination."

Muu: "Ehehehehe."

Lamli: “You're still grinning, Buu?"

Muu: "Because being praised makes me happy."

Lucas: "As the old tradition says... I hope happiness comes to us."

In this way, the third-floor butlers and I... spent a lively time in the city of Velis.

~ After a while ~

I was in a room at an inn in Velis. The room inside the inn prepared by the butlers was very familiar. And for a good reason, because this inn is the villa we stayed at last year. It seems that when the butlers were looking for an inn… they negotiated with the villa owner if they could borrow it. Of course, he graciously agreed.  I was feeling nostalgic, visiting the villa after a year and spending a quiet night.  At that moment... Suddenly, I heard a knocking on the door.

Knock, knock...

> "Yes?”

..........

...However, there was no response. Suspicious, I gazed towards the door...

> “Is that...?”

Upon closer inspection, a piece of paper was inserted under the door.

> “This letter…” > “This is… just like before…”

‘Dear my lord, If you're not too tired... Please come to the beach. We have prepared a heartfelt hospitality.

These meticulous handwritings... are probably Nac's. And the content of this letter feels familiar too.

> “Could it be, just like last year…”

With a bit of tension and excitement, I headed towards the private beach.

Zaash… zaash… zaash… *sound of sea waves*

Nac: “Fufu... You've come, my lord."

Lucas: "Good evening. Thank you very much for coming despite the sudden invitation."

Lamli: "My lord! Were you surprised?"

> "It's like last year, huh..."

Lucas: “Fufu... Actually, today at lunch, when we were talking about memories in Velis… we wanted to see the starry sky with the lord once more. So, we called you like this."

> "I'm happy" > “Thank you”

Nac: "Of course, we also have drinks and snacks prepared."

Lamli: "Now, my lord! Please come near this mat! Let's look up at the stars together!"

And so, as invited by Lamli… I was about to sit on the mat, but at that moment...

Lamli: "Yeees!"

With that, the three quickly sat down (seiza style) on the mat.

Lucas: "Now, my lord. Please."

> "Please do what...?"

Lamli: “This is a revenge for last year! We will definitely offer you lap pillows! Please gaze at the stars over here!”

While saying that, he pats his lap.

> "E-err..."

Nac: "As butlers, there's a line we shouldn't cross, but... Since the other two insisted on offering a lap pillow, so…  for that reason… I can't be the only one just watching."

> "Nac too..."

Lucas: "My lord, it's okay. Nobody's watching."

> "E-even so, it's..."

Lucas: "Please, don't be nervous. It's almost been a year since that summer. We've been through a lot, and our bonds have deepened more than last year."

> "W-well, that's true, but..."

Lucas: "We're ready. All that's left is for my lord to come over here."

Lamli: "That's right, you know? My lord."

> "............" > “Err…”

Honestly, I was very nervous and confused... But it made me happy that the three of them had prepared this for me. The phrase ‘revenge from last year’ that Lamli mentioned... If that's what they desire... I want to do whatever I can.

Somehow, while thinking about that... I found myself contemplating, ‘If it's just a lap pillow…’

Nac: "Um, my lord... If we're causing you any inconvenience, we apologize."

> "Uh, well..."

Nac: "Of course, we have no intention of forcing anything. If it's difficult, please don't hesitate..."

> "......It's fine."

Nac: "Huh?"

> "If it's just a lap pillow..."

Lamli: "My lord...!!"

Nac: "Are you sure about this?"

> "I want to respond to everyone's feelings."

Nac: "My lord……"

Lucas: "Fufu, thank you very much. I'm really happy that my lord said that."

> "Um, so what should I do..."

Lucas: "Fufu. First, please come to my lap. The order has already been decided."

> "You are well-prepared"

Lucas: "Fufu. It just shows how much I've been looking forward to this."

And so, I gently placed my head on Lucas's lap. Having someone give me a lap pillow was nerve-wracking... But, thanks to the butlers talking to me as usual... The tension gradually eased. 

I couldn't fulfill the butlers’ wish in Velis last summer... But now, I can. 

I felt a bit of happiness welling up. Another memorable day with the butlers was made.

Holy shit my first real art post in literal years and it's a motherfuckin' crossover piece! FUCK YEAH!

Does this mean my burnout is finally gone? ...........eh, kinda.

OKAY! So A lot has been going on over the last....... SEVERAL years???

I won't go into it too much here, cuz I wanna actually talk about what I'm posting here.

So, Helluva Boss is a show I've been a fan of since episode 1.

A friend of mine and I have enjoyed nerding out about it every time a new episode drops, and Stolas is one of our favorite characters from the show.

Also, I've recently picked up a hyperfixation on the Game Grumps, and especially Dan Avidan, AKA Danny Sexbang.

I particularly really enjoy his music, from his comedy work in Ninja Sex Party and Starbomb to his more serious stuff in Skyhill and Shadow Academy to his collab cover almbums with the Super Guitar Brothers.

ANYWAY, so one day my friendo and I were flinging our obsessive nerdings at each other, and they were like "Imagine Danny Sexbang, but wearing Stolas' outfit."

And I was like, "Hmmm yes, but also consider.... Stolas... in Danny Sexbang's outfit?"

And then inspiration struck, and I had to make it real. SO I DID!

Here he is in all his glory! Stolas Sexbang!

The burnout I've been suffering for the last few years has been AWFUL, and it's so nice to finally be able to sit and do art without the consistent "UUUUGH" feeling that came with the burnout.

Does this mean I'll be posting more? No promises.

This just was a nice little burst of inspiration that I am glad to have been able to follow through on.

Guys, let me tell you it feels SO GOOD to finally have been able to do something like this again. I've been doing like random sketches here and there over the last few years, but nothing post worthy.

This was the first actual project I've been able to get myself to do, and it felt so good.

For a long time, I was feeling like I was never going to recover from this burnout, and I was about ready to give up hoping for it.

But this... Gave me so much relief. You have no idea.

All this to say I can't say I've fully recovered from my burnout, but I can at least say that I've finally started to.

"Do you not want to have sex with anyone or just me?"

Cash goes to pick up an order from Harry's (with Chook, Jayden, and Tilla waiting for him) and gives Darren a death stare.

Darren tries to watch sports and get takeout with their dad, but when he asks them what’s wrong because they don’t usually hang out with him, they get mad and leave. 

At school they basically act like a first grader pulling their crush’s hair, making fun of Cash for wearing…a turquoise t-shirt? (Idg fashion I guess.) When they ask him to participate in the direct action he immediately agrees and there’s a couple moments in the school occupation where he kinda takes the lead and seems to be using his crime skills!

They have only one scene together but it’s a doozy. Cash is sitting in the hall by himself when Darren comes and sits down with him. Cash looks glum but can’t help but smile when Darren makes fun of his shirt again. Then things get serious.

Cash: I know you think I’m scared, eh, but I’m not. I’m just trying to figure stuff out.

Darren: …Do you not want to have sex with anyone, or just me?

Cash: Anyone.

Darren starts asking more questions, and Cash articulates his flavor of asexuality (without the word ever being used): “I like kissing you, but when it becomes more, I don’t get the urge to go any further. And if I do, it’s not enjoyable.” It gives the impression that his past experiences were consensual but awful.

Darren makes a bunch of “what not to say to an ace person” comments (“well have you tried it?…Maybe it was just bad sex or with the wrong person”) and Cash is becoming frustrated trying to get across that he just doesn't enjoy sex. Darren suggests that the two of them could take it slow or try to find something Cash likes, but he’s not biting. He’s on the verge of tears as he asks, “so you’d be totally fine if we just never did it at all?” They look shocked and can’t answer, so he makes them agree to just be friends. They agree, fake smiling while looking like they're about to cry, and abruptly leave. He cries by himself.

Then Darren watches him sleep and pines!

Some more Darren bits: when Quinni asks "am I too much," Darren says, "yes but you're my too much"--I think that's very indicative of how Darren defines love! Also, Peter is happy that Darren was in the protest!

Thoughts:

It’s really sweet that Darren tries to go to Peter for company when they’re sad, though of course they end up pushing him away. After Darren comes out of the building at the end, Peter high fives them and pats them on the back and Darren just looks...so happy about that approval and like they're trying to hide that reaction. I LOVE THEM.

I think the hallway scene is great, in the vein of the Bobby and Darren pronouns scene in ep 1. It’s not about being educational or spoonfeeding you why you shouldn’t say shitty things. (I like how Darren says “but you can get a hard-on” and the show doesn't even stop to unpack that, Cash just ignores it.)

Rather, the point of the scene is how the marginalized person feels. Darren doesn’t get it and Cash is frustrated, and he feels hopeless that their relationship could ever work. When they say “maybe it was just bad sex” he literally facepalms!

I also think that even though the description of Cash’s asexuality is written as well as it can be, it’s a lot to deliver and King Will is knocking it out of the park making it sound so impassioned and natural. The lines about his past experiences imply so much pain despite being so short and vague.

What is so great about this show’s portrayal of asexuality is that it’s not attempting to be generic or universally relatable. There is no one ace experience--there are so many traits that are combined differently. Having a character who's queer, very romantic and sensual, AND sex repulsed and low libido, instead of like "bleep bloop, if you don't want sex you must not want anything else," is so satisfying. Also, representation aside, it's a new story.

On a Darren note I do think it shows a lot of maturity/growth that they have this conversation, even though it’s messy. I’m not sure he would have been ready to make up with them at this point even if they’d said everything right. I also think that agreeing with Cash’s request to just be friends was done out of respect and maybe some guilt at not having respected his boundaries before.

Idk on what kind of drugs I am but every page that I've drawn looks fucking hilarious to me. I just can't stop laughing over it, especially the one where Z holds a flower up. I've been legit laughing to tears every time I look at it idk why. Also sorry for fucking up the kiss I tried I guess.

Okay so Z has a history of bad relationships in his past, when he asked AleX if they could hang later he meant in a friendly way more than anything. In reality he wasn't that interested in her. But while they were talking AleX had been sending him mixed messages, she seemed annoyed, not interested in what he was talking about. He kinda felt like he was bothering her more than anything. Kinda feeling like his friendship request is being rejected, just as he was about to say " Sorry for bothering you, I'll leave" she turns to him and asks if they could see each other tomorrow. Surprised by her request, he says yes anyway, maybe she just wasn't feeling like hanging out today.

Tomorrow comes, and he actually shows up and sees a completely different person in front of him. She was jumping, happy, maybe even overjoyed, she was all over him. Confused by this, he wasn't sure what he was getting himself into.

He finally realizes he wasn't asked to come hang around he was asked on a date. He swears she didn't blink once while looking at him.

Eh whatever, he'd been trough worse and a lot of one-offs before, since he wasn't even that interested he decided to just be himself and at least have a fun time. If the date is what she wants, a date she will get.

And in fact, they did have fun, maybe more than he was expecting, even thought he managed to do one or two stupid things.

I just watch Good Day For It... I have so many thoughts!!

With how it was set up, it felt like an indie film, or one of those shows with an hour+ runtime per episode. I had to double check the that this was a on-its-own movie. I don't mean that in a bad way at all! I kinda hoped it was so we could get more story and action XD but it was just- executed sooo well! By the halfway point, I was surprised that Emily hadn't been kidnapped and Luke had to go rescue her. The movie focused on them and their relationship and her getting the answers she needed. No unnecessary drama or action needed to keep us at the edge of our seats. I absolutely love how you can see what the characters are thinking through their emotions and expressions- especially Luke!!!! And I was so so so relieved when we got that happy ending of the family reunited. No prison or death for Luke, Emily and Sarah can get all their answers and hopefully they'll be one bug happy family again ^^

Hec and Rose? Do I need to say anything?? They are the BEST supporting cast ever. Hands down. I need Rose and Reba to hang out. I need more Hec and Rose banter. I need more of Hec not just flirting with Rose and genuinely caring for her. I. Need. Them.

And of course, I can't forget the thugs you- and now I- love. First of all; Norman is my favorite. He's just.... Hooooooo fuck. I need him. I need that man. So in control? So level headed yet dangerous at the same time??? Lord have mercy (it doesn't help at all that I'm 99% sure that this is the same guy who played Foxy. WHAT IS IT WITH THAT MAN AND HIS VOICE!?)

As we can see, this is yet another case of me falling in love with the sidekick/accomplice of the one you're in love(?) With. First buck and Harper, then Big Bad and Granny. Greasy and Psycho, Otis and Baby/Rufus. And now Norman and Wayne. What other team/duo are we going to fall for next? XD

Secondly, all these guys KILLED their roles. Oh my god, they really bring a whole new level to the movie when they're on screen. The tension is so thick, you could cut it with a butter knife. They just.... Ohhh my god, I wish I watched this movie sooner so I could appreciate your writing of them more!

Thirdly... Ok the fact that Robert England's character was dealt with by smashing a plate on his head 🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry, a plate smashing can do serious damage (especially to an old man *cough*) but- the other two got shot, but it's this toon of a man that's finished off with a dish. Please tell me I'm not the only one who found that funny XDDD

And finally.... ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT WAYNES EGG COMMENT, BUT NONE OF YA'LL TALKING ABOUT ANY OF LYLES LINES!?!? I don't like that egg comment either, it made my skin crawl too 😅 But believe me, I would take THAT any day over what Lyle said towards Emily, "You like 'em young, eh?"//"So she's legal, now?"//*keeps touching Emily*//I'll let my new girlfriend explain."//"Your sick kid turned into this?"//"Well, I already paid for it." 🤢🤢🤢 Emily my girl I am so sorry. All in all, I loved this movie!!! I'm definitely gonna watch it again. And I need to re-read your 'Good day for it' content now, too XD
