one of the prompts for alyanette august reminded me of my ghosthunter!alya alyanette au where she winds up meeting ghost!marinette who helps her search for ghosts, neither one realizing that she Is one. it was very scooby doo-esque with a dash of murder mystery and a whole lot of sapphic love and i WILL!!! write it someday.

So I like the idea of next generation AUs fine. The problem is, I don’t think that Adrien or Marinette after a bunch of character growth and therapy would ever pass down their miraculous. Especially not when their kids are as young as they were. I think they’d be better parents than that, and they wouldn’t want that burden to fall on someone they love. They’d take up the mantle again if that was the only alternative.

Okay okay I realized something about bakery enemies au

The dress and the cake have such similar designs. Both are light and spotted on top and bottom with a dark ombré in between with a triangular silhouette. I love that parallel. It’s like they’re on the same wavelength, inspired by the same things, even when they’re working against each other.

So I know that Alyanette April already happened, but I’m still going to make Alyanette August because why not?

A couple rules:

AU Yeah August: Secret Agent

Today’s drabble was commissioned by the awesome @ladyserendipitous for platonic Marinette and Nino. Thanks for the support! <3

“Someone’s getting sloppy,” Marinette teased, watching Nino dab sauce off his tie from her vantage point across the large room.

He frowned vaguely in her direction. “The dip was a lot drippier than I realized,” he murmured. “Have you spotted our guy yet?”

Marinette raised the champagne glass to her lips and took a sip, keeping the glass in front of her mouth to camouflage her soft words. “Near the stage. Obnoxious print bow tie and a jacket that’s at least two sizes too big.”

“Listen, fashionista, give me hair color and height.”

She smiled. “Brunette going gray and about your height but with a sizable gut hiding behind that jacket.” She watched him glance around casually. “Got him?”

“Yeah, I see him.”

“Start a conversation. I’ll play tipsy socialite and grab the brooch in five.”

“With all that champagne you’ve been knocking back, I don’t think it’ll take much acting. I’m telling your wife you got sloshed on the job.”

“Then I’ll tell your husband you ruined a very expensive tie.”

“He loves me too much to care,” Nino grinned, pressing a napkin to his lips to make sure he didn’t leave any evidence of his snack behind. “All right, going to the mark. Standby.”

Marinette felt her muscles tense in spite of herself. This was an easy mission. Someone with too much greed and too little sense had gotten ahold of the missing Peacock Miraculous and made an easily traceable message that he would be selling to the highest bidder at the gala. It would be a simple distract and grab but it didn’t stop her from feeling anxious. 

She saw Nino make contact. He was going for stern and serious. She could work with that. They played so many different roles together, it felt like slipping into an old beloved dress when she needed to become his complimenting half for a mission. She drained the rest of her glass and set it on a passing tray, grabbing another with her free hand. 

“Is it too late to make an offer?” Nino asked, voice low.

Marinette caught his eye before stumbling forward with a giggle, letting her heel snag the hem of her dress as she grabbed their mark’s shoulder for support. “I’m so sorry,” she flushed, beaming at him. “I swear I’m not normally such a klutz.”

The man turned, startled and reaching out to steady her. His expression transitioned from angry to amused as he took in her pink cheeks and too bright eyes and plunging neckline. “That’s quite all right, sweetheart. I’m glad I could catch you.”

Marinette’s smile briefly tightened around the edges but she preened. “I guess I fell for you,” she giggled. 

“We were in the middle of something,” Nino interjected, brow furrowed. “Please go find somewhere else to drape your drunken self.”

She huffed and straightened. “How dare you?!”

The mark looked between his new possible business partner and new possible bedmate and made a quick decision. “I’m not taking any other offers, Mr. Lang. Now, if you’ll excuse my new friend and I, we’re going to get another drink.”

Marinette lifted her chin smugly in Nino’s direction and curled against their mark. “Lead the way, handsome.”

“I need ten or eleven showers,” Marinette shuddered as soon as she dropped down into the seat and pulled the car door closed. She offered Nino the small black box and he opened it, revealing the Peacock brooch. 

“That bad?”

“He told me he’d love to see me in a little pink bikini on his yacht next weekend,” she scowled. 

“That’s nice. You’ll get a tan at least.”

“Stuff it, Lahiffe.”

He grinned. “Easy as you expected?”

“For the most part. He caught me the first time and I ended up massaging his chest and asking him how much he could benchpress. He ate that up, of course, though I doubt he’s been to a gym in at least a decade.” 

Nino barked in laughter. “I love you.”

“You better. Next time you get to be the honeypot.”

“They won’t know what hit ‘em.”

Marinette reached down to unbuckle her heels and sighed in relief as she slid them off her feet. “It would break protocol to just go home and debrief in the morning, huh?”

“Sadly, yes,” Nino sighed, pulling their car out into traffic. “But it’s oh-so-tempting.”

“Alya’s been working late a lot. I feel like I haven’t seen her in weeks. I was really hoping to have an earlier night, but Mr. Cop-A-Feel saw to that being ruined.” Marinette massaged her feet. 

“Are things okay with you guys?”

“Yeah, we just need some quality time, ya know?”

“Yeah, I get that completely. You know Adrien wants to apply to be an agent?”

Marinette winced. “He would be, uh...”

“Awful.”

“Not awful, per say.”

“You’re right. He wouldn’t be awful. He would be great.”

“And that worries you,” Marinette prodded.

“Of course it does. He’s not cut out for this. I don’t want him to be cut out for this.”

“Maybe you can put in a word with the higher-ups, make sure he doesn’t pass the exam?”

Nino glanced at her. “And be the worst husband in the world?”

She shrugged helplessly.

“If he really wants to do the exam, I’m not going to stop him. I think he has this idea that he and I will get to do missions together and that’s just not going to happen.”

“Not with you guys married. Too many conflicts.”

“Yeah.”

The streetlights sped by them in an uninterrupted glow. “Do you ever think about quitting?”

“More and more,” he admitted. “You?”

“Yeah, but then I think what the heck else am I going to do?”

He laughed softly. “Yeah, I have that feeling too.”

“I guess we’ll stick around for a little while longer then?”

“I guess so. As long as you’re my partner.”

“Deal.”

I’ve been in this fandom for years now, and I’ve seen some ML calendars that comes and goes each year (either the mod was busy with real life or the mod lost interest in ML), and while I always reblog ML calendar challenges that stumbles on my dash & participate most of them, I don’t reblog ALL of them.

Maybe it’s just me being a veteran fan, but recent calendars have purposely included some salt-baiting prompts - despite the mods putting a No Salt/Hate or No Reblog - and I don’t want to promote salt in my blog (if inevitable, I use #ml salt tags so anyone can block it)

What is October? Like there's Adrienette April, Lukanette September, etc... What's October? And how do you look that up (like for November December etc?)

I’m not sure if there’s a pairing for October. From what I know, usually by October people start signing up for ML Secret Santa (@mlsecretsanta although I don’t know if this year they’re doing it again), use prompts from Inktober, and/or are organizing events for the holidays (Halloween and Christmas).

I usually find out about events through sheer coincidence or from one of the servers I’m in (ML Ship Fleet, Marichat Coven, Lukanette Lagoon, Marinette Appreciation Squad, among others). I also follow very active members of the fandom that tend to be up do date with most ML events. Some of these are @seasonofthegeek @lnc2 @edendaphne @official-ladyblog @perditaalottachocolate-blog among others that I can’t think of at the top of my head right now.

The months I know that happen (almost) every year are: Adrinette April, Marichat May, Ladrien June, Ladynoir July, AU August, Adrino November, Alyanette February and Julerose June. Lukanette September was new this year. A lot of times they are organized by different people, so I usually keep an eye out before the start of each month (except for Marichat May, which seems to always be organized by the Marichat Coven).

Sorry I don’t have all the information, but I hope this was of some help ^_^

I don't like adrinette month. Maybe because I don't ship the lovesquare (because I find it forced, pls don't explain to me how it's perfect, I get that a lot), but still, I respect people who do so. Though I do think it's unnecessary to have months for the love square, like, everyday is lovesquare day already. And I was so happy about femslash February (and alyanette April) but those are now apparently lovesquare months :/ can some people just respect other ships that aren't the lovesquare??????

I see where you’re coming from, anon. Over the past few months I’ve fallen out of love with the love square because of the way the fandom prioritizes it. Not only does it get 4x the focus of a normal “popular” ship, but people get ridiculously defensive if someone tries to ship something involving mari or adrien that isn’t love square (like alyanette). and it’s kind of annoying that it always seems to be some form of appreciation week/month because those two have copious amounts of content produced every single day. 

and like, sure, I understand if you do want to arrange an event but pleaSE make sure it doesn’t interfere with something else? it just seems really inconsiderate that whoever decides these things either didn’t know or didn’t care that something else was happening the same months and now, of course, it’s going to take priority

Here's a message I sent ppl about the reveal for context:

Marinette bleeding out, her transformation washing away and leaving her there, near death.

Scarabella's ladybugs will fix everything, of course, but they won't erase the memory of seeing her partner fade away into her girlfriend, still bleeding out over her own suit and gloves, the blood tacky against her fingers.

And she knows who Mao is. It's only fair that for the most painful death, and her half of the reveal, Scarabella makes sure she knows she isn't alone. She doesn't die alone, ever. She has her girlfriend by her side.

So she shows her, she calls her transformation off and hugs her so tight, blood now seeping into her nice dress she was wearing on their date, until her heart finally stops. And alya places marinette down on the floor, trying to cushion her before transforming and going back to beat the Akuma, a lot more rage powering her.
