Controversial, but even with all the horrible things the Saja Boys did (and don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to downplay killing all those people) I think we should still remember that they were victims, too. They were victims to Gwi-Ma's manipulations. We don't know how long the other Saja Boys were under his control, but Jinu was manipulated by him for four centuries. Yes, Jinu made a really bad choice when he was a human (though, although it doesn't excuse it, I don't think he had any great choices, and let's not forget poverty is a form of violence), and I'm sure the other Saja Boys did, too. But he says that if anger and hate could Gwi-Ma, he would've done it already. And he changes with Rumi's help, until Gwi-Ma yanks him back and blackmails him and manipulates him. They literally have Gwi-Ma whispering in their heads the whole time.
Again, I'm not saying he wasn't a bad person. He helped kill a lot of people, and being manipulated into doing harm doesn't change the fact that he did harm, or that the Saja Boys even seemed to enjoy it in some ways. I am saying it's more nuanced than "they're good" or "they're bad" and I think we should recognize that.

so, regarding Taylor burning down her legacy, I can't say I disagree. but she probably has a plan, ay? I can't help but think that she is doing something so something will happen and she can disappear to make rep more relevant. but then I think that's dumb and dangerous, and whatever she may be, I don't think she's dumb. so maybe she is getting all the coins she can before she comes out and burns it all down. I mean, she could walk away with all her awards and just take a break, but she wouldn't need to burn it down for that. I'm confused. hwat are your thoughts?
tbh i dont think its about the 💵.
She is trying to proof that she can do whatever the f**** she wants because there are still people out there supporting brands, people etc without her saying a word.
look how much attention the nfl has gained. look how many of you googled 1975 (and not for kissgate reasons)
her burning down her REPUTATION (and for me that what that house basically stands for) can free her. So as always, i am in for the ride ;)

it feels bad that the only line of defense for not giving a single shit about a popular transfem headcanon for a character is that Im transfem myself otherwise a significant portion of the fandom would want me dead. And idk I just dont think it should be that way :(

Do you like any "controversial" ships?
I don't think so, not in Harry Potter anyway. It depends what you mean by controversial haha. And it's not really as a rule or anything, I just don't think any of the pairings I'm most interested in are particularly controversial lmao.
Oh, I guess my most controversial HP ship (and one I've actually written for) might be teddy/james sirius, for age gap reasons. But even that doesn't seem that bad, at least to me lol.
I guess with HP I'm not as interested in shipping as I am in the characters and the dynamics between them, whether sexual/romantic or not. So most of my ships tend to be things that have at least a basis in canon or feel believable within canon.

Hiiiiii, have you watched the capture the flag in Japan season yet? Just curious 🩵
i have!! i really liked it—i thought it was a fun new idea with lots of opportunities for strategy and i wouldn’t mind another season of capture the flag, although i haven’t listened to the layover to know if it’s logistically feasible to do again. also, i was SO charmed by scotty and how earnest he was. i wanted him to win and do good so bad and scotty can do no wrong in my eyes 🫶
#the way I almost answered this like ‘no but i’m so excited i KNOW it’s a ton of people’s favorite’ bc everyone asks about Japan h + s 😭#and i simply do not know how to read. but luckily i actually processed so you get the actual answer which is yes!!#i do have beautiful art that someone did for capture the flag either in my drafts or in the queue somewhere#but that was when i learned apparently my love for japan capture the flag is controversial? i think part of it was that i had heard#everybody talking about ‘Japan’ being their favorite season and I didn’t know there were two japan seasons so I watched capture the flag#and was like yeah this is great I love this!!! and then found out people don’t like it as much? have not heard this nor do I know why.#there is so much that is delightful. I love the concept of capture the flag as a whole I think it’s fun altho not very sightseeing/travel-y#i guess. but choo choo chew is in there!!! i thought it was fun to see the scotty/ben and sam/adam showdowns plus the whole hiding in the#castle piece was so good (was that this season or am i losing it that was this season right where they almost make the time bc they hide in#the dark) and the DRAMA!! the tiebreaker!! also really i cannot state enough that scotty so earnestly wants to do good i cannot help it#lots of high stakes in this one where i was like oh my god stop giving me heart palpitations from what i remember#liv in the replies#anyway now let me interrogate YOU have you seen it?? what was your opinion/favorite part? not to be like this feels like a leading question#but pleaseeee this does feel like you have a follow-up now that i’ve said yes and i’m dying to know what it is.#also to cover my bases i am about to start Australia (I GET TOBY AGAIN!!!) although i have been ‘about to start australia’ for like. a week#woooo we love starting a new job!!!! but maybe tomorrow i will watch One (1) episode (this is unlikely i fear. maybe friday? this weekend?)#ALSO re: opportunity for strategy i feel like there’s a lot of potential for growth and different strategy even in the same place#ex: sam & scotty didn’t really split up and played defensive for most of it and you could play it totally different or them not totally#using towers and things until a bit later in the game like if you gave them another go at it i feel like it’d play different but then again#i still don’t really know what the criticisms were? i will say that it was a very difficult physical game for the most part because it was#kinda like tag where you had to run or move in certain ways so i can see where that’d be hard? but who knows (not me)

i'm lowkey excited for the next 3D zelda game because i want to see where they go AFTER botw. will they keep some elements of the open world? will they include aspects of environmental storytelling? what will they do? i'm excited to see it
#legend of zelda#i don't think they'll go back to something fully linear like tp or sksw honestly#i was pleasantly surprised to see some design elements from botw return in eow#things like the lynel design and the map design. i kinda wasn't expecting it#although. botw was a sort of soft reboot to zelda too#i think going back to a linear game would be a step in the wrong direction#yes oot was revolutionary for its time but that was in 1998. oot was among the first 3D games where you had free range of motion#we've come SO much further than that. and a lot of the games people consider to be the best from the last decade or so#are the ones with the full open world. like botw#(which in itself inspired a lottttt of these games)#like here's my controversial opinion but the botw lore is some of my favourite in the franchise#not entirely for what it is but for how it's conveyed#you're supposed to see things in the overworld and make connections or interpret it yourself#so like. there's this village in between akkala and eldin that's been burnt down. and there's a red wizzrobe dancing around there too#there are lines of swords in the ground in fort hateno that i think are meant to represent graves#(there are a lot of graves/implied graves in botw)#zelda has all these little drawings and notes over her study. that's all her research and it's somehow mostly untouched#anyways! i'll shut up now aksjskdjskdj#i should play it again soon but i feel unsatisfied if i'm not at least a little freaked out playing a video game now akdjskdjdn#resident evil has RUINED ME. totk depths were helping but idk. botw isn't really all that scary#(guardians don't count once you know how to kill them. neither do lynels)#(yes i will fight gold lynels for fun)

I guess outside of the content related discourse the other side of discourse about Ao3 that makes me feel gross is the idea that unless you are writing with the end goal of becoming a Published Author you are wasting your time. For a lot of people writing will stay just a hobby and that's ok. I feel like it's the same strain that makes a lot of people feel pressured to make every hobby they have into a source of income.
Also with so many long running franchises it's just disingenuous to say making fanwork doesn't count as practice in writing or art. There are plenty of examples of people who started out from fanart / fanfic and then got hired on official projects. It's fine to not enjoy fanfic but saying it doesn't count as practice just isn't true. It's better to write silly self-indulgent stuff than nothing at all.
I'd honestly rather read something where I can tell the author is having fun than something that is technically perfect.

OK. . . seems i missed the whole 'chickens are controversial in splatoon' thing. . . why?
To put it short there's evidence both for and against them existing, and this is without me actually looking anything up so i might be missing something.
cases for chickens being extant: there's been chickens present in SOME form in several splatfests, they're not mammals so they're not NECESSARILY extinct, despite being domesticated animals and thus being unlikely to survive it doesn't mean it'd be IMPOSSIBLE because pigeons and other relatively human-dependent birds still survive in Splatoon, and of course there are many instances of Eggs being a staple in inkling culinary culture. egg is everywhere
cases for chickens being extinct: we only actually See chickens (or chicken, as in food) in splatfest art and splatfest dialogue which isn't (or at least definitely wasn't until Splatoon 3) canon-compliant at all. We havent actually seen chickens in-universe to my knowledge, nor had them mentioned outside splatfest. probably the biggest nail in the coffin is that there IS a chicken statue in Splatsville, and typically when there are big animal statues in the cities those are statues depicting extinct animals. this is something from an interview that touched on the crane and tortoise statues in Inkopolis Square; which also confirms that it wasn't JUST MAMMALS that suffered and went extinct, it was also other miscellaneous land animals and even random birds which I think me and initially a lot of other people thought were just. Fine and safe. But if a random bird like a crane can be extinct now then chickens are absolutely not safe just because they're not mammals. although eggs are in like every food it's not really been confirmed in any way that those are CHICKEN eggs (although that is the most likely), they could as well be farming domesticated pigeons or something
So really it's a big case of no real confirmation they DO exist, but also no real confirmation they DON'T exist, but also the only context we see them in-universe is in a context where every other animal depicted there IS extinct and it's like a lore thing. So the existence of eggs is a big hint TOWARDS them existing but could easily mean nothing whereas the other one is more in line with proving they do not exist. it is a very uncertain situation for the chicken
HOWEVER!!!!!! there is hope for the chicken. splatfests in Splatoon 3 have had more in-universe accurate themes and dialogue so far (meaning they dont randomly make up shit like "marina's landlord is a narwhal" and "inklings eat red meat" or whatever the fuck in that sea food vs mountain food one we didnt even have that one it was regional). SO THIS MEANS! in the next splatfest we Could get a somewhat stable answer to if chickens exist or not. of course the other 2 options are extinct animals whereas the chicken is 50/50. i'm HOPING the dialogue touches upon this fact and doesn't just talk about all of those like they just Exist. basically we are very close to some kind of progress on this issue that would be Somewhat credible because while splatfest dialogue has never been a credible source in the past, it has been WAY better in S3
TL;DR we just don't know. Chickens are a mystery

Mildly annoyed at the trend of people... Forgetting that many of the strong experiences one can feel about alterhumanity are historically very very common in otherkin and therianthrope? This is not... Beef toward anyone, in fact this popped up bc I checked in on a non anglophone alt-h server, but god. Like speed round. As a note this is gonna be more therian linguo heavy just bc I'm very tired, a therianthrope, and mostly was in therian spaces so it's what I default to but a lot of those are applicable to otherkin n fictionkin.
"can phantom shifts feel like physically shapeshifting"
-> yeah this was an experience talked about not uncommonly on forums. A lot of therianthropes expressed the feeling of "a pelt under your skin begging to breach out" or feeling limbs push out against their skin as the phantom shift took place. Sure a lot of people also feel very mild phantom shifts. Both exist. But this experience is in fact a phantom shift experience. We called ourselves "weres" for a reason. Seems more common in people who distinctly see themselves as werecreatures, but this is not abnormal for a phantom shift, although preferably you should do a doctor check if you feel pain (also an experience ppl talked about, but it's not usually thought of as "normal" just bc. Well that's kinda bad and may hide an injury or whatever so it's better to check mundane reasons first. But painful shifts seem to exist you should just be very very certain nothing else could be causing it).
"I can't turn off being an animal / I can't stop my instincts at inconvenient times / I don't feel suited for human society"
-> this one always surprises me when it's presented as bizarre for otherkin/therians. That was like... A baseline therian experience. Yeah no a lot of us can't either. Usually the difference is that this feeling is at an all time high when in situations where you are constantly pressured to "human" correctly, socialize and have no breaks to wild it out, which corresponds a lot to The Entire Duration Of School and is therefore a more common complaint amongst teenagers than adults. It gets a bit easier as an adult sometimes if you're lucky to have opportunities that let you manage your life around instincts and such, although sometimes, well, you gotta play by societies rules to survive n it stays hard. Also a commonly reported experience. You do learn! But some people are better at hiding instincts than other, some instincts are easier to hide than other, etc.
"I have shifts I cannot control under very intense emotions"
-> "Berserker shift" is a controversial term due to a variety of reasons that span the usual "that's too weird, don't talk about that", the fact you're still responsible for what you do while shifty, or just bc it sounds kinda... Edgy, from a first glance, but it IS a term from our history and a lot of people do report the experience of going fully animalistic if freaked out enough. Sometimes alongside extremely strong phantom shifts as described in the first point! I've heard of people who had complete verbal shutdown and could neither speak nor understand speech, could not walk on two legs, reacted with growling spitting and biting, just the whole thing. I think this experience is a bit harder to find mostly because it's... Very vulnerable, usually. It tends to require less than pleasant conditions, and tends to be very vilified, so not talked about much, but very much something that is recorded.
Transhumanism, species transition and body mods overall
-> I'm not gonna talk much about this one bc I've said a lot in other posts, but there's a reason trans species and therianthropy are super intertwined and it's... Because a lot of therianthropes did historically attempt to transition or at least modify their body and surroundings to their best capacities. The idea that therianthropes, as a rule, mostly do not attempt to modify their bodies seems to me very incorrect.
"I feel a strong, almost supernatural drive toward nature / I feel in my bones I am nonhuman / I believed I could physically shift during most of my life under the right conditions"
-> This one is going to be a bit hard for me. As a result of having psychosis, I have kind of a mental block over thinking too much about it in regards to myself. It's also I think A Major way ppl seem to be confirming physical nonhumanity, so like, you do you, I'm not Telling you anything about yourself. However I do want to note that these feelings aren't particularly rare amongst nonhumans overall. A reason why so many therianthropes got in toxic groups that promised being able to go back to one's true form was... Because a lot of us are deeply convinced in some way or another that if things align juuuuust right maybe just maybe we'll have our bodies again. It's not hard to. Understand why an entire community defined by being in the wrong body would have this trait. A lot of us felt a strong drive toward nature, a feeling of being displaced amongst humans, a lot of us attempted to physically shift.
"I wish I could have my species's offsprings / I feel dysphoria over my sexual functions / I have sexual drives that align with being weird fetishes in a human society"
-> this one is more getting erased due to puritanism I think but yeah no for a lot of nonhumans it. Does not stop magically under the belt. And it's not a problem unless any theriform animal is involved. Yes even if it's kinda nasty to think about. I will however note for the first point "no theriform animal is involved" kinda still goes, please do not adopt animals, especially exotic animals, under the impression that you can parent them as a theriform animal could? It CAN be possible to raise a theriform animal in a way that would satisfy parental instincts if you're trained for it, but we're not special. We got raised by humans, we don't magically understand our species better than people trained for it. Very imprinted animals commonly make poor parents.
"I remember my past life / I communicate with my animal self spiritually / other spiritual experiences"
-> this one is such a surprise to me to see so uncommon now. Spirituality used to be a cornerstone of otherkin and therian spaces and it's kinda wild to me to see it's so rare now. So yeah no that's very much a thing. I don't think I've seen someone soul search for their "true name" in ages, when that was everywhere on old spirituality inclined forums. I can't speak much on this bc I am not a spiritual therianthrope + point about psychosis made before but I've seen parallel lives, I've seen past lives, I've seen future lives, I've seen misplaced souls, I've seen having a chat with your theriotype as a representation of your soul... Awakening seemed to have a meaning of the... Spiritual event of your soul kinda ripping to reveal your inner self for a while, a singular event in which you start remembering. Was very common on an old french forum over here. Not sure if that was as common in English ones. A lot of people's nonhumanity was not as based on shifts and instincts as on uncovering that hidden self through spiritual means, memories, and such.
Weird Shit Happens Around Me ("I can't digest things a human should digest in accordance to my species, ppl have noted my nonhuman traits as if they could see my invisible limbs, animals react weird to me, etc")
-> noooooted in the past but I think these have always been subject to doubt to be fair. Like you can find records of stuff like that quite easily, but also its very hard to prove in any way, shape or form. So that's a reason it's not in the basics of nonhumanity. But yeah historically a lot of otherkin/therianthropes have claimed Weird Shit Happens. Not rly my case so can't speak on it.
And I think I've mentioned what I had in my brain but this is just to remind ppl like... The therianthrope who wears a mask for fun and is only mildly inconvenienced by their animality is not really a representation of the community historically. Weve always been pretty fucking intense and pretty fucking weird. Chances are, if you are experiencing a very weird thing, it's not particularly a disqualifier of therianthropy or otherkin historically. Not that people might not give you shit about it! Pretty much all the points here, while not uncommon reported experiences, ARE in fact also things I've seen ppl be antagonistic about in the community. Which to be clear is stupid. But yeah it doesn't mean you're wrong, it means they don't realize the extent of our experiences.

Hello! It’s me again :3
So you already covered that you think sandwings are punk and what you think seawings styles are. But what do you think the other tribes aesthetic’s are/how they dress? Thank you for your time!
Hi! thanks for the question! This was an amazing chance for me to explore more alt styles!
Goth Icewings: why it would(n't) work
Tumblr media
About the Goths
Museum of youth culture defines goth as a music genre, fashion scene and cultural bubble usually pertaining to a 'dark' aesthetic, stating 'Goth developed from various other youth subcultures, including punk... in the late 1970s to a more commercial visibility in the 1990s. ' It has the same loose political origins as its punk cousin, even if these ideologies are slightly less visible/represented through mainstream media. in the context of the icewings, I think goth would be more about the ice/nightwing feud - specifically as a promotion of peace and unity between tribes. I'll talk more about that later, as this post explores the many ways goth fashion could work - and not work - on Phyrria.
There are also a handful of other cultures/fashion styles I can see being present in rural icewing villages, which I do plan on exploring in the future! The only reason I chose goth this week was because I was listening to goth music and ended up liking it a lot.
Tumblr media
The Magic Behind the Makeup
Now that we understand what Goth fashion means to Phyrria, the bigger question remains: how the FUCK did they get to look like that? Figuring this out actually ended up being pretty difficult the more I thought about it, because there are a number of different logistical issues that arise when it comes to dragon makeup. For one, Icewings have little to no access to fire - any dyes or makeup would have to be either imported charcoal, squid ink, or other pigment - which would be expensive to northern villages. Secondly, applying water-based makeup must be a literal nightmare if you life in the tundra. All products would have to be oil-based (which is actually not too unreasonable, given that the Icewings have unlimited access to seal fat.) But still, would these products even last? The short answer is no: goth icewings would need to be seriously dedicated in order to consistently dress this way. (Although, that does add well to the peace message.)
but moving on to the 'hairstyles,' what are icewings doing to achieve this? For sake of this headcanon, I am going to assume the spines don't have nerve endings, and are also able to move with enough time and pressure. Using enough wires and pressure, Icewings may be able to give themselves 'braces' for their spines - twisting them into the right shape over the course of a few years, and keeping them in place using the nightly retainer routine. (I can feel your mouth hurting right now.) but hey, it would certainly hurt more if the icewings tried to use a straightener.
I imagine there are some permanent things you can do to become goth, like dying your spikes with ink or getting a tattoo. Clothes could also be made to last - or alternatively, 'tattered' clothing could just become part of the look. You could also argue that the goth look would be easy to achieve if it were born outside of the icewing kingdom but pioneered by icewings, somewhere like jade mountain.
Tumblr media
Why Jade Mountain, and Why not now?
I imagine goth fashion would be more than controversial, both in and out of the icewing kingdom: especially given how violent (and a lot of the time unprovoked) nightwing violence on icewings is. My best example is definitely from book one, where Morrowseer has the nightwings slaughter all 6(?) icewing prisoners in Queen Scarlet's arena. While these dragons would've probably died in the arena anyways, the attack could still be interpreted by icewings as and act of hatred. So, the ideals behind goth fashion - striving for diplomacy, peace and an end to the conflict - are probably not fit to live in the same timeframe as any of the current books.
Knowing this, I first argued that the best place for goth fashion to go would probably be Jade Mountain Academy. Being the only place where young dragons of both tribe can interact without being in an explicitly violent setting, it could be a good starting point toward healing, grieving and discussing the feud. And this totally could've started during the JMA arc, but...
There is one small roadbump that prevents this happy ending.
Tumblr media
Darkstalker's secret 4th power: Ruining Everything
JUST when the nightwings were out of the volcano and under a more reasonable leader, JUST when the sandwing succession war ended, JUST when a school opened specifically for teaching intertribe peace... Darkstalker (the bitch) decides to re-heat his own nachos and literally try to kill every single icewing via plague. And then fight them on top of a school.
Ultimately, I do think there is a place for Goth fashion in Phyrria, the same way there is a place for peace between the nightwings and icewings. But both of those things would require a time, effort and open-mindedness - as well as recognition of the wrongs committed on both sides, and ample opportunity to grieve.
Tumblr media
Adopts! Wow!
I promised I would start making adopts to go with these fashion posts, and I am determined to commit to this. So, this lovely dragon you see above you is going to be available in my Kofi, right here! I named them Permafrost for my own convenience, but you can do whatever you want with this guy when they belong to you.
I'm literally scrambling to post this on time so I'll keep it short, but thank you all so much for your support! My pinned post contains a navigator toward any and all of my other fashion posts, as well as links to my discord server + socials. AND I SAW YOUR FASHION REQUESTS AND I LOVE THEM!
Later ( =ω= )

Netflix DanteLady: in depth analysis
I ship Dante and Lady. And it makes really hard to miss a big controversy, surrounding the Netflix version of characters. There's a lot of negativity out there, and while I see some valid points, my shipper heart absolutely disagrees with the harsh takes on DanLady's development. So let's break it down and highlight some nice things about this particular interpretation of our beloved ship.
Warning:
1) This post treats the Netflix anime as its own thing. I'm not comparing the show's DanLady to the game's DanLady maybe some references aside bc imho it would request another big meta and a couple more Seasons to make a fair judgment.
2) The analysis mainly focuses on the scenes that Dante and Lady share together. The show also likes to draw parallels between them, but once again, I'd need another big meta to cover that. maybe one day
3) I call Lady "Mary", bc that's who she is from her POV right now. I like Lady better too and know the dmc3 nuances, but the show didn't reach the point yet.
Starting from the bottom
She hated demons with a passion. He exterminated them with joy. So much in common and yet — a shared distaste for the demonkind caused an all-time-low first impression.
Tumblr media
But things looked fun at first! At least from Dante's POV. Just when the party seemed to be almost over, another pretty guest flew through his window. There's no doubt that Dante was having a blast, dominating the entire battlefield, so he accepted his new challenger eagerly, his wild grins don't lie.
Too bad, Mary was a woman with a mission. Careful calculation behind every move. Strategy instead of brute force. If her theory is correct, it's the only way she can win. And she succeeds, securing the amulet. The soldier's cold mask falls for a second, revealing how much she enjoys being in control after Dante carelessly underestimated her.
Jokes are over, Dante is pissed and Enzo's suggestive remarks the og captain of the ship don't help either. He doesn't care about the pretty thief, all he wants is to keep his sacred promise and return his precious necklace.
Tumblr media
And so the battle for dominance begins. The episode emphasizes that Dante and Mary are birds of a feather. Both smirk when they think they have situation under control, about to catch their prey. It's not a sweet kind of smirk, they're serious and even manage to cause minor damage, but Mary wins this round by introducing an anti-demon weapon Dante never saw before.
Tumblr media
Time to test the demon theory. Which completely takes Dante by surprise. No wonder, the whole animation looks rather suggestive, if we ignore Mary's gun pointed right at him. But that's not what confuses Dante the most, it's Mary's words. A mere thought of him being a demon is quite insulting, so he immediately laughs at her failure, hiding his own stupor behind cheeky jokes.
Tumblr media
But this lady is too smart for her own good. She continues her musings, so deep in thought that she loses her grip, and Dante is quick to use it against her. His ruthlessness gives another hint that she has touched on a sensitive topic, triggering him further.
Tumblr media
Mary immediately retreats, most likely blaming herself for relaxing in front of such a cunning foe. Her jumps and blasts are more uncoordinated than usual, she clearly panics and Dante has to save her at the last second from his own counterattack.
Tumblr media
And he's still mad and demanding answers. Although the scene clearly references "my type of rain" this Dante is in no mood for flirting. The gentleman dies: he slams Mary's wrists against the wall, ignoring the close proximity he created, yanking her body like a rag doll, when she touches his nerve.
To Mary's honor, she keeps her cool even cornered, this time determined to overpower her opponent mentally. Dante's anger makes it easier, yet her cocky pocker face falls under his touch. That's really not her type of "getting personal", though he walked right into her trap.
Tumblr media
The whole scene radiates the hateful tension that is clearly mutual. Both are a bit too petty. For example, Dante takes offense at Mary's implication that he's a brainless demon and he immediately rubs her current helpless situation in her face. Only for Mary to strike back a minute later. A great uno-game, what to say.
Tumblr media
Slightly touching on the topic of power scaling: nope, the show doesn't make Mary stronger than Dante. Even though currently she's way down on his favorite people list, Dante has no intention to kill her, because: A) He got his morals and B) He seeks information, which she processes. And Mary thanks to the extra ammo and lack of moral limits takes full advantage of it.
Dante's hot anger subsides the next morning. Maybe because he's had time to calm down, maybe bacause Enzo's presence provides him sort of comfort their bond is truly wholesome. Either way, he decides to stand his ground, calmly denying all the demon allegations.
Meanwhile Mary's cold hatred has grown. After nearly failing the exam she did her homework — this damn hellblood won't ever get the upper hand over her. Mary demonstratively ignores Dante's small talks, turns away whenever he opens his mouth, takes every opportunity to punish him for his silly escape tactics, bluntly dehumanizes him referring to him as a "thing".
Tumblr media
While, yeah, Mary is being a bitch in this episode, the reason behind it isn't just a sore victory. Dante is ruining her simple world. Demons are bad. But Dante is acting like a deviant, so human-like, Mary can't help but think that he's up to something. She doesn't believe in his ignorance, she tries to warn Baines that even a half-demon is a demon and doesn't deserve any special treatment. And she surely is annoyed that Dante denies his blood and has a sad backstory, quite similar to her own. Nope, she won't succumb to this demon's manipulations.
Tumblr media
Yet, despite her cold facade, Mary isn’t as heartless as she pretends to be. After Rabbit's attack she pauses for a second to make sure her prisoners are in fact fine, before running to her teammates. And for someone who was so enthusiastic about the bomb in Dante's neck, she certainly seems a little too concerned when she realizes he’s crossed the one-mile radius.
Still at this point of story DanLady are bitter strangers. Dante isn't one to hold long grudges (given his dynamic with Enzo), but Mary's hostility doesn't help his insecurity about his origins. Meanwhile her prejudice prevents her from seeing him for who he is. They both value the amulet above all else, so they spare no extra though for each other, before diving into their own separate arcs. Which change their perception of demons forever.
Change of heart
Next reunion highlights the progress both Dante and Mary have made. She has realized that the world isn't black and white, there're different types of demons out there, even those she can't consider her enemies. And he has faced the truth, came to terms with his father's heritage and been forced to see the world through the eyes of a demon himself.
Tumblr media
The character's journey greatly affects their dynamic. Mary doesn't hesitate to save Dante from Rudra. And Dante immediately confesses that she was right about him all along. Burying the hatchet of their first disagreement, they slowly learn to compromise.
Mary lowers her gun once Dante confirms that he won't transform again. Given how wary she was of his human form before, the new info about his power-up would naturally raise her alertness, but she trusts his words now. Besides, she isn't afraid of him, she's pretty comfortable with his harsh truths duh, she already figured it out And that means a lot to Dante, who's still struggling with self-acceptance.
Tumblr media
Still having his head blown up might be quite a painful experience, and Dante can't help but tease about her change of approach. Mary simply rolls her eyes, but still accepts him as a reluctant ally, untill the amulet tears them apart.
The first sort of teamwork estabilishes who's the braines and who's the brawn. Dante certainly prefers a direct confrontation while Mary engages in a battle of wits with Rabbit. Still, it's impossible not to notice her distressed state, and even though Dante feels awkward witnessing it, he doesn't walk away as soon as he is instructed to work solo. In fact, he pays attention to the smallest shifts of her mood.
Tumblr media
His attentiveness and demonic instincts save Mary's life. He cradles her close to his chest, shielding from the blast. Mary certainly has no time to react when he jumps through the window with her in his arms. Looking very mad. No wonder, his strength keeps being tested, but he's determined not to let anyone die on his watch.
Mary wakes up to find herself in a rather compromising position. Dante groans beneath her, for the first time she sees his face so close. And she's mesmerized, his soft surprised gaze doesn't help either. It's a very short lived moment of vulnerability between them, where they're stripped of their confident, smug demeanor. A blush covers her cheeks, and Mary rushes to break the magic, too afraid of the unspoken feeling that has arisen between them.
Tumblr media
While this scene surely echoes the classic tsundere trope, Mary's reaction is easy to understand. She's a soldier, a tough one, who can't afford the luxury of weakness. Dante's existence was already confusing enough, and she'd just come to terms with his not-so-bad demon side — but feeling something for him? No, no, no, that's taboo! And so she lashes out at him in frustration.
Tumblr media
Dante's reaction is slower. To his credit, he took the brunt of the fall on his own back, which hurts even with his healing, but the grimace of pain magically disappears when he meets her eyes. Unfortunately, he gets no time to enjoy the view, because his face meets her palm too quickly. There she's, the lady he knows, brutal and rather ungrateful, not that he expected a thank you. Well, his pout might tell other story.
Still, his soft spot for Mary is clear as day when he tries to console her about the fallen soldiers. She is also a good listener and Dante confides in her so easily, telling her about his father and the mission he intends to inherit from him. Too bad, she has other plans.
Another disagreement emerges between the pair. Both believe that Rabbit is their personal nemesis, while the other party should stay away from him. The truth is that both are wrong, bc the Rabbit's heart is big enough to hate both Darkcom and Sparda.
Tumblr media
Anyway, while Mary's "courtesy" is definitely not for every court, she doesn't knock Dante down, even though it would've been more convenient for her plan. But at this point, she definitely sees him a person. A person she struggles to reason with, heck, the "demonic dumbass".
Dante, who just can't catch a break with his lady, is very unamused by the following development. But instead of anger, his expression is closer to despair. As if it's not just a matter of a stolen fight, but also the fear that someone will die in his place. Again. Eventually, he'll be able to break free from the truck, but who knows, if Mary will be alive by then.
Tumblr media
In this end, this small arc points the growing attachment between the two. Mary's presence and honest approach help Dante grapple with his own insecurities, and it's clear how much he needs someone to lean on in his vulnerable moments. Meanwhile, Mary realizes that the guy in front of her is too pure for his own good, far from the cunning demon she imagined. His kindness and relatable family values keep messing with her head, but she shields her heart, knowing full well that his careless actions put the entire world in danger.
Back to back
Mary's change of heart doesn't escape Rabbit's attention. No matter how indifferent she tries to sound, using Dante's life as a bargain, her opponent calls her bluff. Without even realizing it, Mary lets it slip by using Dante's name and considering him a part of both species. The fact that she never planned to detonate the real truck adds to the point. Even though from her POV the human world would have been saved without Dante around he'd have probably survived it though and she was never into Baines' idea of using him as a weapon, she just can't. He's no longer a "thing," not an evil demon to her.
Tumblr media
Mary's plan was quite self-destructive from the start, but lucky her, her knight in the red armor is punctual. Once again Dante saves her, giving her a cocky grin, a silent "told ya". Instead of gratutude he gets a groan from the paralyzed Mary. Of course, she's furious because he ignored her warnings again and walked right into a trap.
Tumblr media
Mary hates being helpless, but she underestimates how much her mere presence helps Dante. He remembers Eva's words about Sparda just by looking at her. In this moment, Lady embodies the world he wants to protect. Her voice of reason is his wake up call, she drives his doubts away, leaving Rabbit no chance to use Dante's insecurities against him.
Tumblr media
Mary does her best to be useful. She warns Dante about the poisoned blades and breaks through her paralysis to join the fight. But she still isn't strong enough, causing Dante to worry sick about her. Since this episode his protectiveness reaches a new level.
Tumblr media
After the fight Mary reaches him, noticing, that he's again troubled by Rabbit's words. And she talks about his mother's necklace. It's a small thing, but she doesn't call it an "amulet" — instead, she understands and points out the special meaning this victory has for Dante personally.
Given this, it is no wonder that Dante looks extremely happy when Mary confirms that she will not take his amulet anymore. Too bad, both misunderstood each other. Dante is full of hope, that Lady has accepted him as the best protector. Mary — confident that Dante has understood the danger and will cooperate willingly from now on.
Tumblr media
That's where their third conflict blossoms. But unlike the previous ones — about the demon nature or the Rabbit fight — this one lacks the edge and feels like a flirting banter. Especially if you watch their body language and face expressions closely, both are challenging each other, clearly enjoying the tension. The changes Enzo the og captain of the ship immediately notices and points bluntly. Funnily enough, none of the two try to beat allegations.
Tumblr media
At this point Dante uses "we" heavily, viewing himself and Mary as an inseparable team, after everything they went through. His childishness is contagious and Mary finds herself engaging in his silly points, arguing about their saving score. Still, she reminds him that's she is a part of Darkcom and that's not just a matter between them two.
Dante's sympathy for Lady doesn't apply to her organization at all, and their opinions on Baines' methods clash. Ironically enough, Baines decides to play a harsh boss right afer Mary defends his honor. But Dante isn't one to watch how his lady get reprimanded in front of him. Besides, he realizes that he's the main cause of her struggles, and quickly covers for them both with a lie. Mary, still visibly torn, agrees and doesn't reveal that the amulet is in fact in his pocket.
Tumblr media
However, Baines sets the stage to make the choice between heart and duty even more difficult. Once again the Lieutenant Mary Ann Arkham is acting out of character, questioning orders and hesitating to take the "demon" in custody. For someone who teased Dante about blusting his haircut a minute ago, Mary looks terribly hurt when she actually gets an opportunity to do so.
Tumblr media
The inevitable confrontation gets cancelled by the mutated Rabbit, who gives DanLady a chance to show the best of their teamwork. Without hesitation Mary entrusts Dante with her gun, but his unholy strength quickly breaks her gear. They even find time to bicker about it, between the shooting and strategizing. Dante's face doesn't look very remorseful though, it seems he enjoys being scolded by her.
Tumblr media
But his confident smirk vanishes immediately when his partner gets hurt. Once again, Dante can't hide his fear of losing Lady. Her life has skyrocketed to the top of his priorities: after the helicopter crash the first thing he does is checking on her, rather than securing his precious necklace.
Tumblr media
Mary is hard to kill though. Not only does she always rise up, but also comes to Dante's aid at the most critical moments. She pays her debts, saving him twice. Finding the strength to pilot a helicopter and fire the last anti-demon bullet, when Dante is cornered. His influence on her is hard to deny when she adapts his famous catchphrase for her final shot.
The way they look at each other after the enemy is defeated speaks volumes. They won and saved the world, working together. Quite a solid foundation for a bond.
Tumblr media
Sunrise finds them together on the bridge, the shortest distance between them. Mary consoles Dante over Enzo's death, at this point perfectly understanding how much the loss affects him. She sees right through his cheerful facade and when Dante tries to escape with another joke, she opens up to him too. The honesty is mutual and Dante tells her of his latest discovery: his brother may be alive. Finding Vergil becomes his primary goal. But suddenly Dante, the former lone wolf Dante, who didn't want anyone to pry into his family's affairs — invites Lady to come with him.
This is not something Mary ever expected, her expression softening, surprise evident in her eyes. Dante doesn't give her a break, immediately coming up with the name for their future duo. It all makes sense from his perspective, they fight great together, they complement each other, they share similar regrets, they'll make it work. The only snag is the order of their names and Dante laughs heartily, looking genuinely happy for once.
Tumblr media
Little did he know about the turmoil his Lady was going through at that moment. Her weak smile dies with their silly argument and shifts into a somber expression. And she does what her duty requires, looking absolutely heartbroken.
The disbelief on Dante's face doesn't make Mary's explanation any easier. Yet, as he falls, we see Lady from his slowly blurring POV — and it's not the face of a traitor, but the small lost figure of someone who regrets this outcome deeply. Her guilt echoes in her apologize, which, sadly, he can no longer hear.
Tumblr media
Their last crucial disagreement finally comes to light. Mary has witnessed the danger of a demon invasion first-hand, so she can't let Dante and his amulet go on another risky adventure, especially knowing how unstoppable he'll be with his newfound motivation. And even though Mary the person clearly sympathizes with Dante's passion, Mary the soldier makes the final decision. However, it immediately backfires, because it's Baines who throws the safety of their world into the trashcan.
Well, long story short, it's hard to deny how much the bond between Dante and Mary has changed over the course of the first season. From bitter enemies to reluctant allies to ride-or-die comrades. All with a tension in the air that the show isn't shy about calling romantic. And yet, Netflix DanLady takes a complicated, but realistic route.
Lady doesn't join Dante at the end of the day, and they don't walk into sunrise hand in hand. After all, they've only known each other barely more than a day. That was enough to develop a great sense of understanding and care for each other, but not enough to give up their old lives. Both still in the middle of their character arcs. Mary isn't ready to be Dante's Lady yet, but her trust in Darkcom is clearly crumbling. Dante's straightforward approach would've result in the world's collapse if Mary hadn't cover for him, he still needs to learn to be less reckless. And the next Season looks very promising for both of their arcs, which will clearly collide at some point and take their relationship to the next level.
Thanks for reading till the end! Of course, this analysis is nothing but my personal interpretation. I'd love to hear your thoughts too! What do you love about Netflix DanteLady? Are you looking forward to Lady's "redemption"? What do you expect from Tony Redgrave? Please, let me know 😌

An in-depth too long analysis of odyssey! Telemachus’s sexism and the role that translation plays in it + mother-son relationship analysis
Ah, canon Homer Telemachus. Ithaca’s batshit pissed off prince. Recently I’ve been seeing some takes on telemachus that make my heart sad, so I’m going to blab about my interpretation of him in Homer's odyssey. Not epic, though I love epic very dearly. While epic! telemachus is a lovely determined boy, OG tele is quite the controversial figure. Namely: the sexist little shit allegations. These allegations are not unfounded, however, as someone who has read wayyy too many translations of the Odyssey, I have a lot of thoughts about Telemachus's behavior and the way it's interpreted. So here’s my extremely deep analysis into Telemachus’s attitude towards his mother in Homer’s original Odyssey.
First thing out of the way: Is Telemachus sexist? Yeah. Quite a bit. It's ancient Ithaca, of course he’s talking about being the man of the house. As much as I love the idea of spartan princess penelope, it’s unfortunately not very viable. When we read the Odyssey today, there’s a ton of shit that does not age well. However, when it comes to Telemachus’s dialogue with his mother, specifically, my interpretation of their relationship is a little different. (Only when it comes to penelope though the maid stuff is a whole other story).
In order to talk about different interpretations of the Odyssey, we’ve got to talk translations. Telemachus’s, and the behavior of characters as a whole, is oftentimes largely dependent on the translator. Case in point: If you read Wilson for example, Telemachus is unabashedly a sexist punk. But if you read Fitzgerald or Pope, he’s really not. And there’s a reason I think the latter are more faithful translations. While I like Wilson’s Odyssey, her goal was to create a very progressive version of the original. She makes a lot of changes to language to call out the problematic nature of the original, and is obviously going to make sexist ideas at the time blatantly more apparent for a modern audience. Nothing wrong with this and at times it's quite lovely, but her translation at times stands out as much, much, different than most of the other translators not only in language, but in intention. Let’s look at a specific passage from the Odyssey, namely the infamous moment Telemachus telling his mother to go inside after she addresses the bard, and from there look at the differences from translation to transaltion not only in what Telemachus says, but Penelope’s reaction.
Wilson: Sullen Telemachus said, “Mother, no, you must not criticize the loyal bard for singing as it pleases him to sing. Poets are not to blame for how things are; Zeus is; he gives to each as is his will. Do not blame Phemius because he told about the Greek disasters. You must know the newest song is always praised the most.  So steel your heart and listen to the song. Odysseus was not the only one who did not come back home again from Troy.  Many were lost. Go in and do your work. Stick to the loom and distaff. Tell your slaves to do their chores as well. It is for men to talk, especially me. I am the master.” That startled her. She went back to her room and took her son’s uneasy words to heart. She went upstairs, along with both her slaves,  and wept there for her dear Odysseus,  until Athena gave her eyes sweet sleep
Oof. Not a good look for Telemachus. Hold your horses though because again, no shade to Wilson, but there are… a lot of things off here. From the first line, “Sullen Telemachus”. Sullen? Wilson is the only person I've seen call him sullen, although tell me if I'm wrong plz, but in nearly every other translation he is always thoughtful. Thoughtful or poised, or clearheaded. That really does show the kind of bias Wilson had when translating, because even though it’s a good translation, I do think this one exchange in particular is very misinterpreted, and at times a bit odd in the wording. Take note of the placement of the word uneasy, which I’ve always found to be fascinating especially compared to other translations. Looking at these translations, it's very clear how different Wilson's is from the rest of them.
Lattimore: Then the thoughtful Telemachos said to her in answer: ‘Why, my mother,  do you begrudge this excellent singer his pleasing himself as the thought drives him? It is not the singers who are to blame, it must be Zeus is to blame, who gives out to men who eat bread, to each and all, the way he wills it. There is nothing wrong in his singing the sad return of the Danaans.  People, surely, always give more applause to that song  which is the latest to circulate among the listeners.  So let your heart and let your spirit be hardened to listen.  Odysseus is not the only one who lost his homecoming day at Troy.  There were many others who perished, besides him.  Go therefore back in the house, and take up your own work,  the loom and the distaff, and see to it that your handmaidens  ply their work also; but the men must see to discussion,  all men, but I most of all. For mine is the power in this household.’  Penelope went back inside the house, in amazement, for she laid the  serious words of her son deep away in her spirit, and she went back to the  upper story with her attendant women,  and wept for Odysseus, her beloved husband,  until gray-eyed Athene cast sweet slumber over her eyelids
Looking at Lattimore, often considered the most accurate, the changes are immediately very obvious. The sexism remains, especially in the latter half, but Telemachus isn’t sullen, and most importantly, the way he addresses her is not disrespectful in the way Wilson’s is. Not what he says, but the manner in which he says it. Wilson’s modern language translation is very brief, and Telemachus as a result sounds harsh, while Lattimore makes it obvious that he is addressing his mother, and in the way that a son respected a mother in ancient Greece, respected her. However, the biggest difference is Penelope’s response. She is not “startled” and his words are not “uneasy”.  In fact, it’s quite the contrary. He’s serious, and she can be interpreted as trusting him and being impressed at his stoicism, and it is fairly clear that she is awed and takes him seriously, and is not hurt by what he says. Also note the difference between “master” and “mine is the power in this household”. One is asserting dominance over his mother specifically, and the other is asserting dominance over his house, which coincidentally has 108 power hungry suitors in it. Huh. As for the sexism, he’s a man in Ancient Greece. Period-typical, BUT I am going to talk about my thoughts on that once we look at all of the translations (well not all of them but the ones we are discussing here).
Fitzgerald: But Telemakhos intervened and said to her: "Mother, why do you grudge our own dear minstrel joy of song, wherever his thought may lead? Poets are not to blame, but Zeus who gives what fate he pleases to adventurous men.  Here is no reason for reproof: to sing the news of the Danaans!  Men like best a song that rings like morning on the ear.  But you must nerve yourself and try to listen. Odysseus was not the only one at Troy never to know the day of his homecoming.  Others, how many others, lost their lives!"  The lady gazed in wonder and withdrew, her son's clear wisdom echoing in her mind.  But when she had mounted to her rooms again with her two handmaids, then she fell to weeping for Odysseus, her husband. Grey-eyed Athena presently cast a sweet sleep on her eyes.
Here we’re getting into a much more nuanced and interesting version of Telemachus and Penelope’s relationship, and this my personal favorite translation of the Odyssey. I adore Fitzgerald's language and highly recommend it. Again, Telemachus is not disrespectful at all to her, and again most importantly, Penelope does not take it that way. “Gazed in wonder and withdrew, her son’s clear wisdom echoing in her mind” Come onnn man. I would argue that this Penelope is much less fragile than Wilson's. She’s not startled at his “uneasy” words (sorry for harping on about that I just hate that word choice), she respects her son. And he respects her. This dynamic is much more interesting, because even though what Telemachus is saying is obviously not the most sensitive, she is not afraid nor resentful, and she sees him as brave and smart instead of rude/scary. (kind of like his father if you're feeling like drawing some parallels) Notable that Fitzgerald completely omits Telemachus’s sexist words here, but even then Telemachus does speak of men very often and bring up Penelope needed to deal with the song like the men do, so he's not completely erasing the hints of patriarchal elements. Now, let’s look at the last, and my personal favorite of this scene, and then finally into my interpretation of Telemachus’s remarks and Penelope’s reaction.
Pope: "Why, dearest object of my duteous love,"  Replied the prince, "will you the bard reprove?  Oft, Jove's ethereal rays (resistless fire)  The chanter's soul and raptured song inspire;  Instinct divine? nor blame severe his choice,  Warbling the Grecian woes with harp and voice:  For novel lays attract our ravish'd ears;  But old, the mind with inattention hears;  Patient permit the sadly-pleasing strain;  Familiar now with grief, your tears refrain, And in the public wo forget your own; You weep not for a perish'd lord alone.  What Greeks now wandering in the Stygian gloom,  With your Ulysses shared an equal doom  Your widow'd hours, apart, with female toil  And various labours of the loom, beguile:  There rule, from palace-cares remote and free;  That care to man belongs, and most to me."  Mature beyond his years, the queen admires  His sage reply, and with her train retires.  Then swelling sorrows burst their former bounds,  With echoing grief afresh the dome resounds;  Till Pallas, piteous of her plaintive cries, In slumber closed her silver-streaming eyes.
Ohh fuck that’s a sexy translation. That's the sexiest translation of all. If you've never read Pope and hate Telemachus, read Pope! I love Pope so much. Not the easiest to get through, but that man knew how to give us emotion. We’ve gone from bitchy sullen Telemachus to “dearest object of my duteous love”. Like?? That's his mom! That's literally the only person he has ever consistently been truly devoted to other than a dad who he's never met! And it goes both ways, like “mature beyond his years” godDAMN that’s so perfect. The reason I think “mature beyond his years” is by far the line that understands their relationship the most is simply because when we look at the context of his situation, let’s try to understand what Telemachus is trying to do. He’s NOT uneasy! He's occasionally pushing her away to show his status to the suitors (although it doesn't really work lmao they don't give a fuck), and she is consistently impressed by it. As for the argument that this is just as inaccurate to the original as Wilson’s, I disagree because there are a lot more common threads that connect Pope, Fitzgerald, and Lattimore than Wilson. The most obvious just in this scene alone is that Penelope is impressed by her son in varying different ways. Consistently when Telemachus tells her to leave and let him have the authority she is quietly impressed or surprised, and looking at the context of the situation we can understand why. Analysis time baybe.
The reason I keep bringing up the time period is because Penelope canNOT really do anything against these suitors. Odysseus is her husband, Telemachus is her son, they can do something. Women in ancient Greece did not have the power to stand up against 108 angry men, and that is reflected in the text. The way I have always interpreted Telemachus’s insistence on being the “man of the house” is that he needs to be. It is essential. If he is not the man of the house, he loses the freaking house. That is why Penelope is impressed here. Why she’s either “in amazement”, “gaz[ing] in wonder”, or “admir[ing] his sage reply” Telemachus is young, and is treated as such. In a lot of the translations he is not yet considered a man. His insistence on being the man of the house, and this scene in particular, imo is him just saying “let me try to take care of this. As the literal only guy left, I have to fill that space and get them to respect me or we are massively screwed." Is it toxic masculinity? Of fucking course! The man has no father in a patriarchal society, the daddy issues are real intense with this one. He has no male authority figure except for suitors who harass his mom, whom he defends constantly. I’m not going to quote anymore so just read the scene where the suitors find out his mom is lying about the loom. They tell him to kick her out and his response is literally “why would i do that that’s stupid” in everything except wilson’s. Telemachus, unfortunate as it is, NEEDS to be the man of the house or get his dad back. That is why his mom is always so impressed with him being bold, because him standing up for himself and asserting power as the man of the house is kind of crazy when you think about how there are 108 men totally willing to kill him in order to get what he is claiming as his own. Mature beyond his years guys! That’s why she says that! I love Pope so much!! Unfortunately when he tries to speak in front of the suitors, they completely shut him down and that’s when he makes his voyage bc he just kind of keeps crying and they do not give a shit lmao. Telemachus is obviously sexist in a lot of ways, all the men in ancient Greece believed that men had more decision making authority than women, but I blatantly disagree that he does not respect his mother. He is desperate to prove himself, to “be a man”, but at the end of the day he protects her and I think there’s something to be noted about him continually asking her to go to her room to avoid the suitors. In the scene I used to analyze, he asks her to leave and go to her room, but once the men start saying they want to lie with his mother, he tells them to stfu and that tomorrow they have to gtfo. These men are dangerous, and he as her son, and yes, as a man, probably wants to take care of him themself instead of watching his mother deal with them. Yes, he asks her to go to her room again towards the end but that’s because he and Odysseus are literally going to MURDER the suitors. He wants her to get out of the way, and again Penelope’s reaction to this says multitudes.
Fitzgerald:  “She gazed in wonder, turned, and so withdrew, her son's clearheaded bravery in her heart.”
Come on gang. Is that the reaction of someone who feels like her son is disrespecting her? He's brave! He's choosing to deal with 108 men on his own who disrespect and actively want to kill him, and Penelope admires the hell out of it! Anyways, I love odyssey Telemachus. I think the Wilson interpretation makes me so sad because in nearly all of the other ones you can see how he just wants to protect her and keep their home. He wants to be the “man of the house”, yes, but he is literally facing 108 men who are most likely much older than him and who fully bully him constantly. He is trying to grow up because if he doesn’t they can claim the role of man of the house and both he and his mother are going to be in a terrible position. Also btw to anyone who says his reaction to Penelope’s silence at Odysseus’s return is bratty, I think it’s a fucking hilarious scene because you can tell he pictured his parents reuniting so happily and emotionally after 20 and is literally so frustrated when she’s just staring at him. Give him a break he just killed 108 people to see this reunion and she’s just staring silently, ofc he's a little pissy about it. To wrap it up, here’s some of my favorite Telemachus Penelope reunion scenes because anyone who can read this and say he doesn’t love her makes me sad.
Fitzgerald: “Back with me! Telemakhos, more sweet to me than sunlight!  I thought I should not see you again, ever, after you took the ship that night to Pylos—  against my will, with not a word! you went  for news of your dear father. Tell me now of everything you sawl"  But he made answer: "Mother, not now. You make me weep.  My heart already aches—I came near death at sea.”
Literally mom stop crying you’re going to make me cry and I've been through so much, angsty teen behavior. Also look at her! She loves him! That's her boy! And that's his mom!
Pope: "Light of my eyes! he comes! unhoped-for joy!  Has Heaven from Pylos brought my lovely boy?  So snatch'd from all our cares !  —Tell, hast thou known Thy father's fate?  and tell me all thy own."  "Oh, dearest! most revered of woman-kind!  Cease with those tears to melt a manly mind,"  Replied the prince: "nor be our fates deplored,  From death and treason to thy arms restored.”
Brb fucking sobbing I love them leave them alone. Unhoped-for joy is fucking heartbreaking when you think about what Penelope's been through. Although peep the toxic masculinity at the end there. Read Pope. This whole long ass essay was begging you to read the Pope translation. Here's a cookie for making it to the end I love the odyssey and if nobody reads this i will be sad 🍪

Yellowjackets Dating Controversially Older Reader! [Pre-crash] (1)
A/N: To avoid any confusion, I would like to make it clear that reader's “controversial” age is up to your interpretation. And that all yellowjackets members in this are 18 years old.
Jackie Taylor:
Let's be honest, Jackie is partly dating you for the status. You're older, cool, and drive a car that isn't like the junk her mom does. Jackie loves dating you—someone older. It makes her feel special in a way, like she’s more mature than her peers because she's dating someone older than her like you.
Despite how confident she seems, Jackie feels a little insecure at times—wondering stuff like you leaving her for someone your age or if you're just humoring her. To make herself feel better, she’ll fish for compliments from you or compare herself to older women you know.
If you've had any exes before her, she'd get very competitive with them even if they're way out of her league—"she's cute, I guess. but does she know all the words to jagged little pill?" If things get tense, Jackie will test boundaries. Acting aloof or flirting with someone her age at a party, just to see if you react.
Whether you're good with parents or not in general, Jackie's parents hate you. They think you're a bad influence and blame you for the sudden spike of Jackie's interest in sneaking out late at night. And your girl, naturally, in true Jackie style leans harder into her relationship with you out of spite.
Shauna Shipman:
Shauna's relationship with you is a secret for as long as possible, and it's a secret for many personal reasons. She doesn't want any drama and for people to start looking at her differently than the way they always do. Besides that, the girl—although very questionable—likes the thrill of sneaking around with you.
Sometimes Shauna wonders if you see her as a kid, she worries if she's boring or too immature for you even though she tries hard to act mature and to seem older than her actual age just to be on the same level as you. She goes so far just so you don't think any less of her in any way, especially in age and maturity.
She loves it when it's just the two of you guys alone together and when you guys just do whatever you feel like doing. Most of the time it's just you guys driving around in your car and listening to Mazzy Star or holding hands at places where no one around knows either of you and so on.
You bet your ass that Shauna writes about you a lot, almost obsessively. She's always cataloging every moment you guys have together and overanalyzing your interactions. When you guys are apart, she's wondering if you'll be together long-term or if she'll be left behind when you realize she's just a "kid" in your eyes.
Taissa Turner:
Tai would be pretty open about the relationship in public and she wouldn't care about what others think of it. However, she'd keep it as low-key as she could to avoid attention and so. She's just, in general, very calculated about the relationship you guys have.
Tai likes to think she's on your level, especially in maturity, but she's not. Despite the fact she tries extremely hard to match your maturity, her age shows. Even more so when she gets competitive on something. Tai wants to impress you constantly. It isn't obvious to others, but she tends to brag about herself to you.
This girl is protective, immensely protective of her loved ones. So if anyone comments about the age gap between you guys in your relationship, she's pretty defensive and snaps quickly toward the person who made the comment in the first place— “Maybe you should worry about your own relationship.”
Although it mostly seems like you guys have everything good and stable in the relationship you guys have together. Some moments leave Tai wondering about you guys and If you actually see her as someone on equal foot. To reassure herself, she occasionally challenges you—testing the boundaries with you and everything.
Van Palmer:
Van thinks the whole thing is somehow hilarious. She makes this very horrible habit of making jokes about it almost all the time when she has the opportunity to do so. But on a serious note, she's all ride or die with it and practically treats you like you guys have been dating forever.
She practically glows when any PDA is initiated in the relationship and ignores any weird looks coming from others. Any time someone questions the relationship you guys have, Van turns it into a joke— “Oh, I’m sorry! is there a rulebook for how old someone’s partner can be?”
She's pretty confident in what you guys have, but that doesn't stop her from feeling insecure from time to time. She expects—no—trusts you to see through it whenever it does happen. But if you don't, she gets all distant from you. If you do, she'll stall around it and deflect it with either humor or sarcasm.
Although it seems more like the relationship you guys have is just casual. It isn't. Van is more attached to you than she lets on. You guys will go to a record store one day, browsing for the things you guys like listening to. She'll buy mixtapes for you, and then just casually drop the L word way too early there.
Natalie Scatorccio:
Nat does NOT give a fudge about what anyone thinks of you two together. Besides that, she likes how your relationship pisses certain people off. Nat doesn't do labels. She keeps things ambiguous, which confuses you a lot because she'll tell you “we’re just having fun” but she's way more attached to you than she admits.
Nat doesn't flaunt the relationship but she also doesn't hide it if someone asks. Nat trusts you a lot with parts of herself she doesn't show anyone else that much and you're the first person she calls whenever things go sideways for her at home. You're like her escape from all the really shitty things in her life, to be honest.
For most parts of your relationship, dates are mostly impulsive—late night calls, impromptu road trips, and hanging out in abandoned sketchy-looking places. Nat tends to show up at your house unannounced and during odd hours. You'll just be watching movies late at night, and then boom! Nat is there at your doorstep
When Nat senses you pulling away, she self-sabotages. She flirts with other people or ghosts you for days, waiting to see if you'll chase after her during it to see if you really do care about her. She's very protective of you, instantly getting extremely defensive whenever someone slightly looks at you wrong.
Lottie Matthews:
Lottie for the most part is indifferent about it, just ignoring what other people think of you guys together in a relationship. It kinda frustrates you at times because she's completely unbothered about it. Like, if anyone raises a brow at the relationship you guys have with each other. It's almost as if those people are ants.
She's very soft and attentive to you. Listening to everything you say and treating your words like scripture. Although it seems like she's pretty chill in your relationship, she isn't. There are plenty of times, especially when she's alone that she ends up wondering quietly to herself if you'll tire of her in time.
When she does let jealousy get to her, it isn't what most people would expect. Like if someone flirts with you, Lottie doesn't lash out. Instead, she just stares a little too long for comfort at that person until they leave you alone. Her stares drill into you as if she's staring deep into your soul.
To be honest? Lottie has this certain wisdom about her, which might come off as unsettling to most people, but she's so calm and collected that it gives her an ethereal vibe. At least that's how it is in your opinion. Sometimes you feel like she's the older one in the relationship because of it.
Laura Lee:
Laura Lee is pretty conflicted about the whole thing at first. She worried about the age difference and whether it was right. But in the end? She just dismissed it. I mean, her love for you and your love for her was pure. So long as it was in that way, there wasn't anything wrong about it.
The girl is in a constant battle with herself, LITERALLY. She's weighing the morality of the relationship in her mind way too much to the point she sometimes loses sleep over it. She often talks to you about her fears of what others think but no worries! She doesn't let it interfere with her genuine affection for you.
Lee values emotional connection over age in general. But her preference for people is usually people around her age. You were just an unexpected exception thrown at her. Anyway, she's an incredibly supportive and loving partner. Always going out of her way to show her care for you in meaningful ways.
Whether it is intentional or not, she goes out of her way to make the relationship feel pure too. Always emphasizing emotional connection over anything physical. Laura Lee takes your opinions and advice to heart, not just because you guys are lovers but because she sees you as someone who could help her grow as a person.
Misty Quigley:
Misty is obsessed with you and throws herself into the relationship wholeheartedly. Although you asked her to keep it quiet, she can't help but tell everyone—no—practically announce that she has an older partner. She texts you constantly, shows up uninvited, and memorizes your schedule.
She does anything to make you happy, even if it means bending the truth or manipulating situations in her favor. Misty is obsessive but it's because she thinks you're the one. She tries to act more mature but overshoots, talking about topics she doesn't understand or pretending to like things just because you do.
Misty is territorial and anyone who shows interest in you will quickly find themselves on her bad side. She gets jealous easily but hides it pretty well behind her weirdly sweet nice girl facade. Don't be fooled though, she's more than ready to act if someone threatens her “perfect” love with you.
While for most parts, she's great and overwhelming. Misty has a tendency to test boundaries with you by making herself seem like the victim in these hypothetical scenarios (like she's getting bullied by certain people at school but in actuality, she isn't), fishing for reassurance from you that you care as much as she does.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐮𝐬-𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐢𝐨 𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬
PLEASE READ:
long post - thank you for 2k! i apologize for the wait but this took me a longggg time to prepare.
it’s also important to note that planets in taurus/scorpio will effect how you resonate with the interpretations below
reminder that readings are open! i’m now selling persona chart readings of planets/angles as well
take with a grain of salt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1st (scorpio) - 7th (taurus)❤️: relationships are a source of comfort and wisdom. scorpio risings’ experience of reality has to do with trust, hard truths, and taking back your power but their relations with others often bring a sense of peace and value into their lives. people may perceive you to be useful and smart in these similar qualities as well. your partnerships help to balance out the chaos and even insecurity you face at times with your identity and precense in the world
2nd (scorpio) - 8th (taurus) ❤️‍🔥: you are powerful in your resources/skills and in the way you support yourself overall. in this lifetime, how you find worth and appreciation for yourself and what you have (skills, physical resources, etc…). you may feel suppressed or face much controversy for what you value or for how you choose to support yourself monetary-wise or as a person. your biggest comeback story in life may have to do with self-esteem and with how you accumulate worth and value (physical or moral/mental) into your life and goals.
although there may be much turbulence and important realizations/truths that are found in how you support yourself and your goals, the transformations and scary things you face in life ironically enough can bring you lots of support if you choose to make good use out of it (which taurus is naturally good at). of course, this is the house of fears and traumas so a big part of your life story may include building your own sense of independence by learning from times of distress.
3rd (scorpio) - 9th (taurus) 💋: you could be especially sensitive to input from others and be able to pick up undertones and double meanings from others easily. communication, creativity (especially having to do with hands or written words), is your superpower. you grab others’ attention easily with your stories and artistic output when you learn to harness your fears/limitations effectively. this also makes you very intelligent of your community + gossip because scorpio rules over extremes as well
while in your everyday communication and daily life you may uncover and discuss skeleton’s in other people’s closet and may be doing a lot of activities that use a lot of your energy (scorpio is ruled by mars, planet of action), this makes you very comfortable (taurus) in being able to adapt to different environments and perspectives (9th house). having taurus in this house can make someone very wise because they find value and meaning in variety.
4th (scorpio) - 10th (taurus) 💄: people with scorpio in this house have usually had some sort of significant event or trauma regarding their family or childhood or may have regrets as to their actions in the past. these people could be born out of either extreme poverty or wealth too. these people’s sense of safety/privacy can be very important to them or they could feel like this aspect of their life is being compromised often (mars = conflict) but you could also find safety/comfort in curiousity or things that are “off-limits”.
if the private/emotional life of the native is exacerbated and transformative for them the career and reputation for the native is where they feel appreciated and most creative. having these signs in this house-axis can be indicative of a strong comeback story (extreme poverty to extreme wealth or even the other way around). the career-field can be very fulfilling (emotionally or monetary wise) and where you are grateful or feel lucky for the events your work presents.
5th (scorpio) - 11th (taurus) 🌹: feelings of creativity, romance, and happiness are taken to extreme lows and highs throughout life. if you’re a cancer rising, i believe this is where the “moody” reputation for us comes from. like leo rising, there could have been significant changes or revelations during childhood that changed your way of deriving happiness and familial support. these people may crave for luxury and overindulgence and can do so by turning their pain into power. scorpio in this house can make someone very grateful as well.
if our sense of happiness and luck undergoes significant change and gives us our “comebacks” throughout life, the 11th house is where we have already found peace and prosperity with our place in society. we encounter valuable experiences when polishing our individualism (5th) within our community (11th). we can find personal contentment and growth in accepting our individual, unique role amongst the people around us. you may like to surround yourself with confident people as well.
6th (scorpio) - 12th (taurus) 👠: these people can feel very unlucky or trapped throughout life, with the 6h ruling bad luck + burdens and scorpio relating to extremes. scorpio is a smart zodiac i’ve noticed as well, so these people usually have a certain way (especially that requires much energy) of doing their work and job that could defy others’ expectations. extreme focus on a certain obstacle or insecurities is also possible and can take awhile to finally figure out what makes you feel secure and satisfied with how you manage your burdens.
if your everyday burdens and responsibilities test your strength to the max in this lifetime, your imagination, creativity and solitude is where you find peace. it could also be that these people do unusual things to satisfy their need for pleasure and wholeness, because the 12th house is where we are easily misled. these people are internally comfortable with their thoughts and ideas, regardless of how odd they may be because it takes them to a place of stability from their scorpio 6h.
7th (scorpio) - 1st (taurus) 🍒: these natives’ partnerships/commitments make the native have to look more deeply into their underlying intentions or feelings with said partnerships/commitment. this can bring a lot of disturbing but also very eye-opening and insightful experiences that affects the native’s identity and ambitions going forth. scorpio can also be a curious sign so there can be a little bit of investigative or persistent approach to your partnerships and this is where your power can derive from.
it may seem like your partnerships “destroy” parts of your identity, because you approach the world from a sense of wholeness and peace. at least, these are circumstances that you are ambitious to achieve in your life. pleasure and steadiness are big life themes and at first it may seem like life is rather dull or boring, but similar to scorpio in its opposite function, taurus asks us to dig a little deeper into the simpler things in life and to find enjoyment.
8th (scorpio) - 2nd (taurus) 🍫: when dealing with other people’s problems (financially, intimate connection, debts, etc…) it brings about experiences that require you to fix what’s wrong or holding you back in life in rather uncomfortable ways. this can indicate someone who is afraid to acknowledge psychological blockages or who lacks the necessary bravery/instincts to attack underlying problems. you could earn valuable assets (tangible or not) from others when you engage with activities that are “gross” but healing/heroic.
this native survives on feeling complete. having a sense of wholeness is very important to these people and makes these people very resourceful because they are able to make the seemingly mundane valuable and able to work in their favor. these people are good at feeling in control of their life, future, and choices because they are committed and secure in their abilities. these people place much importance on authenticity, diversity, and self-sufficiency.
9th (scorpio) - 3rd (taurus) ❤️: when achieving mastery/global knowledge, and self-discovery it may have to do with bringing up topics that you ignored or swept under the rug especially having to do with your identity/precense (in context of the world and society). your global approach and experiences have to do with dealing uncomfortable topics in order to achieve better awareness and understanding of all aspects of the world. how you navigate foreign environments and your sense of flexibility is your strength.
if foreign experiences provide you with strength through perseverance, your intuition and familiar environments provide you with strength through growth (tangible or not). although it may seem like the everyday social rituals and ideas (including intuition), can appear mundane, this setup of houses gives an opportunity to grow a garden that provides roots, beauty, and good taste in the way you perceive and express yourself local environments.
10th (scorpio) - 4th (taurus) 🪭: these people have to have a ton of intiative when working in their career and towards their big goals in life. it may feel as though these people have to start from a bad hand of cards (compared to everybody else) in order to make it to the top or that their working conditions and/or responsibilities throughout life may feel difficult to complete or deals with high stakes/status. but even though there are difficult tasks they have to be done and you have drive/resourcefulness to do it!!
if the workplace is where you see the thorns in your garden (where you have to get rid of them) your home life and condition is where you see the roses. taurus is good at being able to attract good circumstances for themselves because taurus is very representative of wholeness and the feeling of completion. there’s probably more opportunities for you to setup and manage your domestic life the way you like. wisdom may be found through your domestic life too.
11th (scorpio) - 5th (taurus) 🧨: your surrounding communities/people who support you seem to try to pick you apart. you may feel as if the people who you’re around with don’t actually support you or that there’s something incomplete or “wrong” with the circumstances and people that made you successful, imposter syndrome possibly? your supporters/friends could show you things you couldn’t see before, likely for the better although they may reveal this in dramatic or difficult circumstances.
if you feel incomplete about the people/circumstances that support your public achievements, your creativity and lust for life is where you find contentment. these people feel most stable and appreciated for their talents and way of enjoying themselves. for these people, they find stability, growth, and satisfaction when they engage with activities that bring them happiness. they find beauty and appreciation from others for their self-expression/creatvity.
12th (scorpio) - 6th (taurus) ♠️: your drive to feel complete is what can you mislead you in life. this may be because you feel as if there’s always something missing or not being to shown to you but you are persistent in finding what that something is. this same energy can make the native very wise because they have to overcome their demons over and over again throughout life. but at the same time, you could also feel like your sense of resourcefulness and strength fails to manifest in reality.
if there’s conflict/determination in trying to protect yourself from things that induce bad energy, then there’s likely to be tranquility and acceptance in doing activities that can put your life back on track. the 6h is known as the house of bad fortune in astrology so these people are good at being able to find the most reliable way out of a difficult situation. and while these natives could be good at finding solutions, slacking off and overindulgence can lead to oversight with tasks.
once again thank you for 2k!

hope you enjoyed🥰

Is Final Fusion Really Final?
My experiences with splitting again after final fusion and some notes on one of the most controversial debates about final fusion.
-
Hi - My name is Duckie.
I'm a new split. The first "proper" split in my system since 10/12/2023.
I split 2/16/2025, after months of chronic stress and trauma and reaching a safe place to finally just collapse and fall apart about it. We also split another new part, Retro, 2/22/2025.
So, what does this mean for my system? Does this mean we've "failed" final fusion, or that final fusion is not viable as a recovery path?
Well, no. At least, I don't believe so.
Let's talk about it.
A misconception that I see a lot is that final fusion is essentially a "cure" for DID - it isn't.
Final fusion is a state, an experience, rather than an ending or a finish line. In fact, recovery work extends far past when final fusion happens, and for those of us receiving clinical treatment, it is strongly recommended that treatment continue beyond final fusion, with some recommendations even suggesting a year or more of continued treatment and stabilization.
Recovery isn't linear, and this still applies after final fusion.
Final fusion coming apart is not only something which happens, but is something that is expected to happen. Many people will even go through several final fusions.
Does this mean that final fusion isn't really, well, "final"?
In some sense, absolutely. In fact, a more appropriate term would probably be "full fusion", rather than "final". I use "final fusion" mostly out of habit, and because it is the most recognized term for this experience.
Maintaining final fusion is a practice, and even beyond that, there are times where splitting is necessary - not because of a failure in final fusion, but because final fusion is not what we need in that moment. At times, splitting helps us more than final fusion.
Splitting is a tool, a coping method, one that is often very good at what it does.
In my case, my DID brain is just doing what DID brains do: Dissociating as a response to chronic stress and trauma. I experienced stress and trauma beyond what I could reasonably cope with, and so my brain is relying on its oldest, most reliable methods of survival. This is a good thing - This is exactly what it is meant to do in this situation. Dissociation and amnesia allows me to experience life in smaller pieces while I rest, recover, and eventually process.
Additionally, dissociation and amnesia makes it more possible for me to actually hold myself to resting - I am extremely prone to pushing far past my limits and burning out and crashing, and it is harder to do this when I am dissociated and cannot think too hard about many things and cannot remember the things I wanted to do anyway. And, well, that's exactly what I need right now - I am lucky to be in a place where I can just let others help me out while I recover for a while.
That being said, although the dissociation and amnesia certainly serves me and protects me when I need it, it is not by any means all smooth sailing - It is, simultaneously, very frustrating to be dissociated all of the time again, as well as other symptoms such as mood swings, fatigue, increased anxiety, confusion, and so on. I have also gotten deeply comfortable with the constant background chatter and support of all of my parts, and not having that is isolating and disturbs me. My DID symptoms have always been on the "severe" end, so having an increase in these again has been very hard on me.
Both of these truths - that dissociation is useful as well as difficult - can coexist at the same time.
What my DID brain is doing is a reasonable response to unreasonable circumstances; Rather opposite from a failure, I believe that both final fusion and splitting are completely normal functions of my DID brain which operate in different contexts.
I have, at times (and especially lately), caught myself being incredibly perfectionistic about my recovery and my fusion, and I do think that a big part of that comes from this expectation that final fusion is final, an end goal, a cure - and, oppositely, that splitting is bad, unhealthy, or a sign of failure. How much less pressure would it be, and how many more conversations could we open up, if we were to think that final fusion is simply just another way of being DID, a system structure like any other, and that splitting is simply something many systems do? If final fusion wasn't treated as any "better" or "worse" than, say, being polyfragmented, but just a different sort of systemhood? If splitting was just as valued as fusion?
Personally, I think that it would help a lot, and I believe that a perspective shift like this would help us to imagine even more ways to live as DID and futures with DID.

Hiii Can you please do a hc of what it would be like to be the older sister of the Pines twins from Gravity Falls?? :<
Tumblr media
The twins x Older sister!reader
Pairing(s): Mabel/Dipper Pines x F!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mabel and Dipper definitely have always been there for each other but they’ve always relied on you too
Whether you’re strict on them, play around or try to take care of them they always look to you
Dipper was definitely the more independent one out of the two
He’d often separate himself from you and admittedly did begin thinking low of you or feeling like he couldn’t talk to you about any of the things going on
Particularly cuz blud began thinking he was smarter than you
Which is honestly such an insult 💀
You gotta show him you’re capable but even without this he’d probably appreciate reassurance you give him and his actions
Plus he trusts you a lot so he’s able to tell you secrets that you promise and do, keep
Onto Mabel
You too probably bond all the time
She loves to give you manicures or do your makeup or even play “ridiculous “ games with you and you of course indulge her
She looks to you for everything and as long as you’re there backing her up she feels able to do whatever shenanigan she’s up to
Not to mention how when waddles was first introduced, you backed her up and she really appreciated it.
Plus how you just sigh and go along with her little romances
She has her moments that can definitely be controversial or iffy
Like how she treats Dipper and handles things
It’s sort of a natural instinct to lecture and help out your younger siblings when they go about something in the wrong way
Now, Mabel’s not the only one
Dipper also has his moments too and you’re there to help him out too
But when it comes to them fighting each other?
Well you could do two things
Either step in and tell them to get along or let them ride it out
Which the second option is chosen more than often enough
They’ll sort it out
Anyway
They can get on your nerves so badly sometimes you just gotta go
Like how Stan has you looking out for them even when you’ve got your own thing going
Even making them go with you
Which whatever but damn can’t you get time for yourself
Honestly you three are pretty close and although they can be a pain in your ass they’re your siblings
So you’re practically stuck together
