#sometimes i think about how well all the jet lag boys would fit into an archaeological librarians/indiana jones style au#the amount of ancient booby traps that are simply just board games… ritual rules and archaic research… elaborate theories and plots…#and then i remember that i would have to WRITE said elaborate puzzle plot. and come up with the mechanisms.#i just!!! like national treasure style conspiracy intertwined with history! running from the bad guys! all levels of shenanigans!#sam is playing temple run while ben does twister on the booby trap floor New Zealand adventure park style and adam is locked in 5D chess#with an ancient inscription that holds the entire key to solving the puzzle room and involves him having to balance and manipulate objects#and rotate big stone wheels around at peril of death and after he finally sweatily goes ‘i think it’s safe! WAIT—’ and sam walks across#perfectly fine not in adam’s elaborate beautiful puzzle solution to point out where the booby trap failed (dealer’s choice if someone broke#in before them and disarmed everything by setting it off or it’s old) (don’t worry adam’s machinations will be relevant later in the final#boss puzzle room where you have to put together all the traps that came before and Understand the context to solve for the treasure) (if#you’re getting juno steel the mother prime pharma cure episode vibes. you’re correct but partially i only just realized it myself).#anyway what you’re hearing is that i want 10000 versions of yada yada and the emerald frog stories that would eventually coalesce#into a larger story based on this whole set of animals put together for a purpose i do not know yet. professor layton style. that one#action puzzle game where you have to find things in the pictures and the main protagonist was a girl (i just remember the athena statue…)#jet lag season pitch:#and each of the little puzzle guys have a different meaning!!! the little stone toad!! the ram and the dog and the fish oh i love them all#these are so pretty and i’m obsessed with them. i want to hold them in my hands and set them up next to my little accumulation of Guys

you watch a car commercial and the car is presented as a masculinity carapace and this idea persists as if we don’t all know that the car is actually a second womb and every arrival + subsequent exit from the vehicle is a rebirth — it’s obvious why straight men feel such an attachment, and doubly obvious why they don’t want you to know. the trained eye can locate the mother wound of every car driver within seconds.

jltg medieval manuscript inspo
as promised:) this started out as just messing around—this was the first time i've ever tried digital art, and i very much got carried away. i went in just contemplating historiated initials and ended up spending like 60 hours drawing instead?
but! as a result! i did a lot of looking at manuscripts. here are some of the most impactful/inspirational ones for my medieval triptych!
S is for Sam
sam was where the whole idea began. i stumbled on this one manuscript leaf i LOVED (below, left) and just had to make something based on it. at one point, i considered doing four different mini scenes but i decided that was doing way too much and wouldn't balance well with the other two pieces. i was so sad to see all the smaller designs go! would love to play with them in the future.
the image on the right comes from one of my all time favorite manuscripts ever. i'm actively planning on getting this block as a tattoo sometime in the future, so i couldn't help but think about it as i was freehanding the shapes outside of the letter.

B is for Ben
i knew early on that i wanted each initial to be very unique in style from the others, so after the sam inspiration struck, i spent a lot of time kind of honing in on a different style/aesthetic for each.
ben came next! i've always loved these floriated designs, and to me they were a no brainer for ben. colorful, whimsical, and reminiscent of the patterns he wears:)
i primarily worked off of the left image, but i also looked to the playful assortment of things you see in the right manuscript for the background details. not a great picture, but this entire manuscript fits in the palm of a hand!

A is for Adam
coming up with inspiration for adam's was difficult. i really struggled to find a reference i liked because most of the illuminated A designs i was seeing were not historiated (didn't have a picture inside of them). the left image was a lifesaver!
i think i interpreted this one the most freely, which probably shows itself in the level of detail compared to the others. but this gave me the chance to revisit a manuscript i looked at for my dissertation (right) for background detail inspo. i was also so excited to incorporate an arabic manuscript into my thought process because i've mostly been using latin manuscripts as references for these, and i don't know as much about latin manuscripts!

Snakes!!
i was initially torn abt whether to do a general jltg piece or a season 14 specific piece, and sol suggested medieval snakes as a nod to classic medieval Fucked Up Animal depictions!! genius!!!
i loved all the different snakes below, so i tried to include each of them. top left went to adam, top right to ben, and bottom to sam. i matched them by vibes and i! stand! by! my! choices! i had a lot of fun color coding and customizing snake length/quantity of snakes to reflect all of their runs:)

Jet Lag The Game + the boys catching strays from the info cards /// season 10
#this is perhaps one of my absolute FAVORITE things#which is probably more favorite if i ever learn who their wonderful editors are but for a while in the beginning at least#it was just ben and adam right?#anyway. i reeeeeally really really really want some kind of fic premise with the info card asides idk if it’s like a. outsider pov#of somebody timestamping all the videos if it’s like a drinking game a la the brennan bingo of all of them in love with each other like#the things that their wonderful sound guy manny has witnessed to me makes him a beautiful vessel. for this. manny do you also video edit.#or is it still ben and adam writing snarky comments and agonizing over cutting everyone in love. like yes there is a delicious version#of this where they all think the pining is unrequited and all try to cut out what they think is THEIR worst moments of longing on display#while magically completely missing the reciprocation (utilize the snarky asides as like. ‘adam thinks about death for 0.0001 seconds here#because he almost kissed ben on accident tripping and falling on his shoelaces’ but it’s all of them and i think it would be FUNNY to have#competing edits of like. someone needs a moment left in to prove they’re not down bad but someone else needs it out because it shows THEM#being so down bad & neither of them can actually make a coherent argument as to why it can/can’t be in & obviously nobody wants to ask sam#anyway. beloved idiots. these are so funny i want to run with this unfortunately it is not crystallizing in my brain as a solid idea#how why or in what way. like video transcript? interspersed with scenes? like cutscenes (the video) interrupted by freeze frame scroll#panel and then the editor reaction? snippets of correction boxes like titles/section headers for scenes? somebody joking with themself#in the moment as it happens about what the editor correction would be? there’s so much potential. also these are so funny imo i love them#like the sarcasm… the loving teasing… idk they feel very dear to me!! they feel like inside jokes we get to be in on (we the viewer!!)#it just adds a really fun layer of meta that i like to play with like a degree of separation or. well i’m inarticulate but like#the consciousness in some ways that this is not scripted but it IS an edited product and they’re aware that they are being watched and#Consumed for lack of a better word and it makes this secret team of us those who are seeing it happen + the video editors because WE know#everything that’s going on even if they all don’t. we get this secret little extra moment to pause commentary (almost in the style of#i was going to say internal like the ‘well. you’re probably wondering how i got here’ movie narration but i do also mean limited third/2nd#jet lag season pitch:
