hi!!! I’m a big big big fan of your work and I had a question about how to integrate clothes into your designs!
All of your talks about how clothes work with dragon culture are just soooo… UGHHH /pos (I love them so much)
You make it look very natural on the dragons and I was wondering where do you start? Obviously dragons have different anatomy than us and so that can make it harder to design clothes that don’t look clunky…
Sorry I’m rambling a bit but
TLDR: How do you make clothes look good on dragons without making them look stupid?
Hi, thank you so much!! I was struggling a little to make a step-by-step on this, but I did gather what I think to be some useful tips + examples so I hope that helps just as much.
To start, This is my general rule-of-thumb chart for when it comes to accessorizing a dragon. Green parts represent the places I feel most confident about adding dragon clothes! I just feel like it's much easier to use shape language in those places, plus they happen to be places where clothing wouldn't obstruct a dragon's mobility. For reference, I would label the front-half of the chest as a green area too. it's just not visible here.
Hatsune miku is a great example!
When it comes to my design process, I usually try to avoid heavy use of clothing when I can (Ironic given the fashion posts, I know...) but if I really really want to include clothes, i try to make them follow the general direction/flow of the dragon's body.
These are some quick sketches I whipped up to provide some ideas. using shapes that complement what the dragon already looks like is generally the easiest way to integrate clothing into your design!
if you find yourself dying to add a dress/cloak of some kind, I would focus more on the shape you actually want (long, flowy) than the concept of 'dress' or 'cloak' itself. This is because Dragons have anatomy which make these clothing items slightly improbable, and oftentimes it's easier to replace conventional clothing items with brooches/belts/flowing fabric.
This example is from my goth icewing adopt! It looks like a dress, but it's actually just one sheet of fabric wrapped all the way around and attached at the spikes. Creative problems require creative solutions.
Anyways, that's all I have for you. Good luck tailoring! ∑d(°∀°d)

if you’re comfortable , can you post the speedpaint of the graphic novel redraw?
Of course, here it is! Don’t worry about the sketch spawning, in it’s just because I ended up copying it over from a smaller canvas when I decided to upsize this piece.

decided to take a crack at my own contest and redraw one of my favorite moments from Escaping Peril! Here's the graphic novel page I took inspiration from:
My art comp is still running until the end of august, for anyone looking to join! You can submit through my discord server - here's the link! More information is available below - ignore the end date on that image, it has been moved to august 30! Obviously a contest isn't much of a contest without competition, so I'd really appreciate it if you guys could spread the word or join in yourselves! ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )

HOLY YOUR ART IS GORGEOUS!!
I’ve been watching your artfight attacks and i love the way you draw backdrops and dragon faces and the way you shade 😘😘
Um anyways would you mind posting a tutorial on how you do any of those? I understand if you’re busy with artfight that sandwing one is actually so gorgeous 🤗
Also sorry if i type like a bot i don’t usually send people questions
thank you so much, and don’t worry about it! I’m not super good with tutorials and after a few failed attempts at explaining I think I can finally offer some helpful advice on backgrounds using a speedpaint from artfight!
I think this attack in particular will help to explain both backgrounds and shading even if it’s a little simple, mostly because I used a lot of techniques that tend to really carry my backgrounds. (Ignore my failed attempt in the start of that video)
to start, I used a big soft brush to map out the rocks/general composition of the piece with a dark shade of green and a little bit of pressure in the right places. I wanted to have a good sense of direction before sketching in the cat, which I also did with the same soft chiseled brush. The different light levels were achieved by using less pressure when sketching out certain limbs/parts of rock.
after that, I started to define the fur a little more - still with the same brush but this time with different shades of brown/grey I saw in the reference’s fur. Same thing with the pressure! If you have trouble with this you can just lower your brush opacity.
texturing the rock is actually pretty simple! I used some speckle/splatter brushes in lighter shades of green (all colorpicked from the sketch) and then chiseled the rock a little more with a sharper brush. Another thing to do is to is to use splatter/stroke stamps: you can kind of see me adding them in one by one and then using distort + warp to make them fit the shape of the rock. Super easy and fast! And the water was also a splatter stamp which I just scribbled over a little.

No worries! I don’t think I draw cats enough to give advice on this but using references is always a good way to get into something

Duuuude- your art is brilliant and gorgeous and I adore it! I love love love- the patterns you put on the dragon bodies like- is so prettyyyy!!! I watched the glory speed paint and now I wanna have a crack at like- following the same process-
Do you by any chance do oc requests?
thank you so much!! I’m so sorry for not getting to this sooner, but unfortunately I do not - I think it would just be too chaotic because the canon character list is already SO long

Hii!
I wanted to ask how do you do shadings/lineart so good and how much time dois it takes to do an art request???
Request on Icicle from Moon rising!!
Anyway i <3 ur art like its so yummy
hi! Here’s icicle!

I wanted to do a redesign specifically from the segments of winter turning where icicle is by the volcano, and took a lot of inspiration from glaciers with lines of volcanic ash in them because it felt appropriate. Even though she wasn’t there for very long, I think the ash and fire would’ve drained the color out of her scales a little: so she appears more gray than she’s supposed to be in this redesign. I usually talk a lot more about these pieces, but I actually want to try seeing what you guys think of them today!
As for your other questions, a request usually takes anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on how much trouble I have with it. And I don’t really think much about my line art when I’m doing it, so I’ll probably come back to that one later with a tutorial or something! As always, the box is open to your requests and my pinned post has all previous designs, tutorials and resources I use! I also have that base pack now!
later (´ ∀ ` *)

I have some ideas about the origins of the dragonets of prophecy’s names:
Clay -> named by Asha as she bled out from her wounds, naming him after the muddy banks she played in as a dragonet, when she life was simpler.
Tsunami -> Named by Webs. Watched her be a ferocious little thing out of the egg and was like “ah yes, I know exactly what to call you.”
Glory -> Also named by Webs. Kestrel was supposed to name the SkyWing prophecy dragonet but after it died she refused to name the RainWing. Webs had to rack his brain until he came up with something that would be elegant enough for a RainWing.
Starflight -> named by Hvitur. When they first received Starflight egg, Hvitur mentioned thinking Starflight would be a good NightWing name. That the dragonet would reach for the stars, so to speak.
Sunny -> Dune named her. And also named her using a list of names that Thorn had told him about when she first had Sunny’s egg. Felt a little guilty that he stole Sunny away from her mother, so happened to also be a close friend. So decided to give her at least one gift from Thorn.
