Waterparks - Sneaking out of heaven
After weeks of teasers, USB sticks and cryptic posts the long-awaited new waterparks song is out. Seeming to be in addition to intellectual property (their newest album released in April of this year), Sneaking Out Of Heaven is a pop infused anthem that I’m sure they can’t wait to play at the When We Were Young festival and their upcoming UK and EU tour after its incredible reception on their Australian tour earlier this month.
This new song is a true credit to the band's discography, a synth infused pop-rock tune that is bound to be well taken by fans live. Within the song there are several references to one of the lead singles of the album “brainwashed”. I'm not brainwashed but I wanna be. There are also several references to religion (the song is literally called sneaking out of heaven) which is a key theme in Intellectual Property, with Awsten Knight in an interview with Alt Press stating that; “There is a love story throughout the record that is expressive to and for other people, but the album itself has to do with overcoming, unlearning and growing past religious guilt”. This religious imagery is greatly felt in the song but done so in a way that doesn’t come off as preachy or rather satirical. I thoroughly enjoy the synth-pop sound, though it is evidently not for everyone as the song is meeting mixed reviews from fans, some are living for this new, modern sound while others strongly believe that parx are at their best when they focus on pop-punk. All that being said, it's been a pleasure to have been allowed into the property once more.
Overall, the track fits very well with the overarching themes of the album and stands alone as an incredibly strong single. There are rumours of this being the first B-side in a potential deluxe re-release of Intellectual Property. Paired with rumours of this being a whole new era or side project it’s an incredibly exciting time for Parxies, new and old alike. Irrespective of where this stands in Waterparks’ discography, the release was perfectly timed and truly exemplifies their incredible genre-bending skills.

I've never minded the term aesthetic. But I do agree that fast fashion needs to be put to a stop, that it's ruining the true definition of cultures and subcultures such as goth, punk, grunge and even turning people's cultures into aesthetics which I think is entirely inappropriate for them to make a claim on.
I believe alt subcultures are so much more than a trend. I got into gothic music and even emo music, I've always liked both. When I was in middle school. I liked the music, the literature, dark things before I even found the fashion and fell in love with it.
I've always been an eco warrior, anti capitalist etc. And found that my true self was goth. I can like things that aren't goth. It doesn't make me less goth. But that's the difference between someone whose in a subculture and someone whose doing it for the trend.
I always say be who you are, truly and authentically. Don't hide behind what's trending.
I have no hate towards the word aesthetic itself. But I do see the harm in what capitalism has done using aesthetic culture.
