Not just for her looks, but when people meet her, they instantly see how sweet she is. Spencer loves how kind and compassionate she is, and he wants everyone else to witness that as well.

Spencer has been planning on proposing for a long time. He wants it to be some place that holds a lot of meaning to them. His proposal spot is the cafe they met at. After their meet, it kind of became their spot. Every morning when they could, they’d go to that same cafe. That’s why Spencer thought it would be the perfect place. 

They could go early morning like they usually do, when barely anyone was there. Spencer would place it on top of her favorite cupcake, one that she would order every time they got there. Once she sees the engagement ring sitting on top of the cupcake’s frosting, she’ll start tearing up. It was one of Y/n’s favorite songs growing up, and when she showed it to Spencer, it instantly reminded him of himself and Y/n. Out of curiosity, what first got you interested in the Grievous backstory? Boy, I wish I had a COOL STORY, but it’s pretty much: General Grievous was randomly brought up in something I was watching and so I started searching around and came across clips of his 2003 incarnation—on two separate occasions over the course of multiple years. It took until the second time this happened for me to latch onto it, possibly because was around the same time as the combined hype for The Rise of Skywalker (which did not live up to it) and first season of The Mandalorian (which did). I very quickly went from “hey, this guy does have a cool design” to “what’s his story?” and the rest is history.

Please tell us so much about Kaleesh biology. How good is their hearing? Are their bones more or less flexible than humans? How much can the average Kaleesh bench-press? How much can Qymaen bench-press? What’s the closest living relative to the Kaleesh in the Kalee animal kingdom? What’s the purpose for the tusks, beyond aesthetics?

I’m in love with your worldbuilding and have about as many questions as Huk Qymaen has killed. Oh jeez, thanks! There are questions here that I HAVEN’T actually put much thought into, oh no! The best I can do without doing some improvisational worldbuilding is: their hearing is at least as good as a human’s; the average Kaleesh warrior can bench-press…uh, more than Sheelal-era Qymaen (sorry buddy); and yeah, tusks are pretty much all about display/aesthetics (they are secondary sex characteristics and...well, more along the lines of “eyy check these out” than “LET ME FIGHT YOU WITH MY FACE”).

Sometime I recommend transliterating Kaleesh words into Cyrillic and running them through Google Translate’s Russian text reader. It’s so satisfying. Долхлава. Какмусмэ. Урукишнугал. Колкправис. Рондеру лидж Куммар. Амаги дин Ку-лиана. Малга Шапра.

(No, I didn’t just spend all night doing this, why do you ask?) First of all, this was really fun to do. It’s still wild to hear these words and names said out loud! Usually sounds spot-on, too. Second and less relevant, I was FAR too proud of myself for being able to remember enough Cyrillic to be able to read all of the Kaleesh words up there. But of course context helps. :’D

You know what would be cool? A picture of the entire Gang together before ... you know. This is something I have indeed considered drawing! Someday… Maybe a candid group photo with some sort of salvaged Huk cam that Amagi and Jindra have just figured out how to make work? xD

I absolutely adore and admire the amount of detail and work that you've put into this fanfic, I really wish this was current canon! This has also gotten me interested in wanting to know more about the Kaleesh–Bitthævrian War and Grievous's grandmother who was in it, while also inspiring me to want to make my own headcanons about it. Thank you so much! It sure is MY personal canon, and I’m so glad there are some folks out there enjoying it and drawing inspiration from it, too. I can’t see myself having the energy anytime soon to flesh out more about the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War and his great-elder-mother, but it certainly would be very cool to read a short story about it~ ;D (btw, according to the “The Story of General Grievous: Lord of War” article, it was his great-grandmother, not his grandmother, who fought in the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War. That is an interesting revelation in the new chapter! I was wondering, is Zigmash & the concept of 'Planet Name' Spice something you created, or are you building off of something from the EU? Ah, so Aza just refers to zigmash as “Kaleesh spice” for lack of a better descriptor; it’s clearly a drug and it’s from Kalee, but it makes it offworld so rarely there’s no general term for it. Zigmash itself is my invention; Kalee’s resources were not considered valuable to the Yam’rii, but that’s not to say they have to be entirely nonexistent! (in this case, there is DEFINITELY stronger, more desirable spice out there in the galaxy; as Aza herself notes, it’s more the scarcity and unusual source that makes it marketable).

Fencer’s Big Eva Review

Just got done watching the Eva finale, so it’s time to get out thoughts while they’re fresh! Caveat: Eva is difficult to understand for native speakers, and I’m definitely not a native speaker XD I feel like I got maybe half, and got the rough gist of like 10% of the rest, and the remaining was just no friggin’ clue. Would’ve gone better if there’d at least been JP subs, but you’ll have to deal with what I’ve got for now!

It should be obvious, but there’ll be HELLA MAJOR SPOILERS for the final Evangelion movie. Ready? Let’s go.

The movie very helpfully starts off with a ~2 min recap of the movies thus far. This was great because I didn’t have time to rewatch the previous three before going, and while I’ve seen them a few times, it took me a second the recall what had happened at the very end of Q, so I was glad to get a very brief recap.

The actual movie itself opens on...Paris! Or Paris post-Near-Third-Impact (Third Impact?), which is a red and black wasteland. It seems that Wille has been developing these things that look like Entry Plugs that they shove into the ground and restore everything to pre-all-impacts (so like, blue water and everything); couldn’t get HOW it managed that, but they had them and were attempting to restore Paris.

Would have been a walk in the park except for weird Eva-Angel-Machine hybrids that were trying to prevent them from activating the plugs. Lots of fighting happens, with Mari piloting her Eva to give them cover while the Wille staff set everything up. Eventually they manage it, and Euro Nerv is restored.

Then we switch over to right where Q left off: Asuka, Clone!Rei, and a catatonic Shinji wandering around trying to go who knows where. They eventually get picked up by...Touji! Yes, an older Touji now who lives in a commune of survivors, scraping out a semblance of a life in one of the areas protected by the aforementioned plugs (they had another name but I couldn’t get it).

In this community, Touji is the local doctor--and he’s married with a kid! He married Hikari, and they have an infant daughter named Tsubame. 

Now, let’s check in how our main three do when introduced to this relatively normal life they get to enjoy for a few weeks:

Asuka: Still in ‘fight mode’, ready to go at a moment’s notice. How she thinks she’s gonna fight when she has no Eva idk, but for this entire little bit, she’s either naked or in her plugsuit. She stays with Aida Kensuke, who’s kind of the handyman, and is generally just rude af.

Shinji: For 90% of this bit, he’s totally shut off. He’s incredibly fucked up from having JUST watched Kaworu die, essentially because of him, and Asuka has on a DSS choker, and every time he sees it, he collapses and begins vomiting violently. He stays with the Suzuharas at first but is quickly sent to stay with Asuka and Kensuke because they don’t really know how to deal with him. Kensuke manages to get him to open up a little bit, but eventually it’s Rei who gets him started on the path back to being himself. At one point he runs away and ‘lives’ alone for a while in what I think was either the building where he first met Kaworu playing the piano or one that looked a lot like it. He goes out to do odd jobs with Kensuke a lot, and on one occasion he’s taken to an ‘outdoor lab’ where some workers are experimenting with new gardening techniques. It’s here he’s meets...Kaji Ryouji. No, not that Kaji Ryouji. That Kaji DIED. This is the son he had with Misato (named after him).

Rei: Now, let me say I’ve never been super interested in Rei. I didn’t dislike her, like I did Asuka, but I wasn’t really interested in her either. She was just there. Guys.....I LOVED REI IN THIS MOVIE. I would have watched 2.5 hours of the Rei Learns To Be A Human show and been happy for the $20 I paid. Rei spends her time in the commune learning to be an individual. She stays with the Suzuharas and learns what different words mean, like “Good morning” and “Good night” and “Thank you” and “Goodbye”, she gets super close with a bunch of old ladies who essentially adopt her and teach her how to plant turnips and what a bath is, and she becomes her own person. When she first arrives, the Suzuharas think she’s “Ayanami Rei”, but she explains that she isn’t, so they call her “Sokkuri-san” instead (”Miss Spitting Image” essentially), and the old ladies find it amusing at first but then encourage her to choose her own name, and when she can’t think of one, they tell her to have someone choose one for her, so she asks the Uber-Depressed Shinji to choose one. These interactions are what eventually pull him back to himself, but ultimately he’s unable to come up with one, because “Ayanami is Ayanami”. She thanks him for trying anyway, returns his SD player to him..............................and then dissolves into a pile of LCL fluid, as apparently all clones eventually return to LCL. Fantastic, because Shinji didn’t need EVEN MORE TRAUMA.

Somehow, the above doesn’t break Shinji, and he resolves to go back to Wille and face his father I guess?? I’m not entirely clear on why (gotta go read some reports of my own I guess lol). Back on the ship with Misato et al., Shinji isn’t forced to wear a choker but he’s put in a cell with like explosives in it I guess. He starts having visions of Kaworu helping him accept things.

At this point it’s getting close to the climax, and Wille are going after Nerv/Gendo once and for all. During the final fight, Asuka tried to take out Unit 13′s core, and then she’s not managing it, she rips off her eyepatch, and we see that the patch was keeping the 9th angel bound within her eye, so she decides to throw away her humanity and let it take over to destroy Unit 13. Unfortunately, she’s killed in the end--how? She’s approached by a vision of her ‘original’. Yup, Asuka was a clone herself, like Rei, and she turns back into LCL and she and unit 02 are absorbed by Unit 13.

Eventually the fight comes down to Shinji vs. Gendo, who has thrown away his own humanity and bonded with Unit 13 in the hopes of completing the Human Instrumentality Project. He and Shinji go head to head as Shinji summons (???) Unit 01 from inside Unit 13, and there’s a really REALLY WEIRD final fight between the two that involves some weird animation choices. Lots of storyboards and overly CGI’d CGI, and some bits that seem to take them through the different incarnations of the Eva series.

We also get Gendo backstory by the boatload as he and Shinji have an actual goddamn conversation for once. Mari features prominently in Gendo’s flashbacks so she was definitely one of his classmates it seems, who introduced him to Fuyutsuki. I’m still not entirely clear on who she is/was.

However, through this conversation, Shinji gives the people he’s interacted with most closely/been closest with closure I guess? Gendo, Asuka...Kaworu.

So about Kaworu. Their conversation was VERY VERY WEIRD; it’s made clear that Shinji is also now aware of all the different iterations of their meeting. When they talk, it’s set at the beach where they first met in the TV series, and Shinji says he remembers all the times they’ve met before. Shinji mentions that Kaworu reminds him a lot of his father, and then there are some very strange flashbacks (????) of Kaworu’s that I feel like imply he’s to Gendo as Rei is to Yui. At one point, he’s seen talking to Fuyutsuki, trying to decide on a name for himself and settling on ‘Nagisa’ as it means ‘beach’, where the ocean meets the land. Fuyutsuki later addresses Kaworu, who’s sitting in Gendo’s desk, as “Commander Nagisa”. Kaworu reflects to Shinji that he failed so many times to make Shinji happy, but he’s realized now that that’s because he doesn’t know what would make Shinji happy and it was arrogant to think he knew better. He was looking for his own happiness all along.

In the end, after all these goodbyes, Shinji is left with the decision of what to do with, well, reality. He decides, in a conversation with Rei, that he’ll reset everything--create a ‘neon genesis’--to a world without Eva or Angels.

Our last shot is an older Shinji meeting his (presumed??) girlfriend Mari on a train platform. On the opposite platform waiting for their own train are Kaworu, Asuka, and Rei. Shinji and Mari hold hands and run, laughing, from the train station.

My final thoughts:

Okay I’ll say it: the fuck with Shinji/Mari endgame? Believe me, it was completely out of left field even in this movie. They just happened to be the only final survivors. Mari flirted a hell of a lot more with ASUKA and was distraught at her death than she did with Shinji. They were a kind of cute couple in the end, but very ????? 

I’m disappointed Shinji wasn’t the one to give Kaworu his happiness in the end, after Kaworu spent so long and so many lives and realities trying to make him happy and failing. I’m choosing to believe, since these multiple realities/resets are canon now, that he did it in one of them. They all deserve the happiness of their choosing, not just Shinji’s, and Kaworu showed us time and time again that his happiness definitively involves being with Shinji.

I’m sure I missed a lot, because yanno, Eva, and it was long enough as is, but gosh I wish I could’ve understood more of everything that was going on, cause there was SO MUCH WEIRD SHIT.

If I watch this movie again, I will 500% just be watching those “Rei learns to be human with the help of a bunch of old cackling biddies” bits :> Those were THE BEST PARTS OF THE MOVIE.

Dear Avatar fandom

Please can we stop refering to Zuko's eyes as 'good' and 'bad' in fics. What he actually has is a 'seeing eye' and a 'blind eye'. There is nothing inherently bad about a blind eye.

Negative language towards disability is ridiculously common in our ableist society. I know this community is often very good at writing disabled characters, and people mean no ill intent with this language, but please consider the words you use and their connotations.

This is not a call out, nor an attack, and it is not targeted at anyone specifically. I am just someone in the disabled community asking you to please think about why you might consider a blind eye to be bad, especially in a fandom with a canon blind character.

Thank you for the question, Raeven! (also, note: it was still Chanukah when this question was sent in, I just saved it up for now because I like answering questions on Tuesdays)

So I was GOING to be like “I don’t know anything about menorahs resembling trees???” but then I remembered that MY OWN Chanukiyah which I have been lighting for the past 15 years has a distinctly stylized-tree design so I must recognize that this is a thing that happens.

In light of that, I can offer three possible answers:

(answers below the cut because I am pathologically incapable of brevity)

a) trees = pretty

b) Chanukiyahs are a branched object - they need 9 branches - and what is a lovely AND structurally stable item that typically has many branches? a tree! Basically, I would assume that branched items evoke comparisons to each other anyway, so just roll with it

c) in a memorable and popular line of Tanach, the Torah is described as a “tree of life” and this is often taken as a metaphor for Judaism in general (plus in other memorable lines of Tanach, the Jewish people as a whole and righteous people in the abstract are each compared to trees as well). So maybe it’s to evoke that?

But there is no specific trees-Chanukah connection, other than the two olive branches appearing in Zechariah’s vision that’s read on the Shabbat of Chanukah, and the whole olive harvest thing in general (and that would be an olive trees connection in particular so not relevant to most tree-like Chanukiyas).

On to question two: how long to leave the candles burning for! This one I actually have a definite (if qualified) answer for you! The Chanukah candles have to burn for half an hour of time during which (a) it is dark out and (b) it is still reasonable for people to be out and about. So if you light them as the sun is setting, that half hour of time that they count for begins not when you light but only after the sun has completely gone down and, conversely, if it’s getting late, you have to make sure that they’ll be burning for half an hour of time when people would still normally going to be coming home from work and so on, even if they’ll still be burning past that.

(This is because a major part of the reason for lighting Chanukah candles is “publicizing the miracle” - so they have to be visible, in terms of both showing up as light in the darkness, and in terms of being lit at a time that people might reasonably be outside to see them. This is also why Chanukiyahs are supposed to be lit in front of a window or outdoors.)

Question three-ish: SO MANY SPELLINGS this has a simple and very annoying answer: the only correct spellings for the name of the holiday are   חנכה and חנוכה (multiple spellings even in the Hebrew because that ו is acting as a vowel, and vowels are often left out / implied / replaced with more succinct vowels so it isn’t strictly necessary). It’s a Hebrew word! It’s spelled in Hebrew, which has a completely different alphabet! All English transliterations, of this word and of any Hebrew word, are all equally correct/incorrect. Part of the problem with Chanukah in particular is that first letter ח represents a sound which doesn’t even exist in the English language, so there’s a lot of different opinions on how to represent it in English letters (for the record - it’s pronounced by making a guttural sound at the back of your throat, like the ch in Bach or like the letter jota in Spanish). I typically write it as “Chanukah” and could write out a detailed explanation of exactly why this transliteration feels most correct to me, but at the end of the day, they’re all equally wrong / equally valid because we’re transliterating from one alphabet to another so everything is BASICALLY arbitrary.

Finally: I do have MANY other exciting Chanukah facts but this post is already so long so I will save them for another occasion.

Real Talk: He tried to kill us multiple times and threatened to do so even more times and no one can’t deny that. He tries his best not do do so but sometimes there’s still a little bit anger there that he didn’t put into Satan. Emotionally: He would straight up tell you that he doesn’t like the dress you’re wearing and dosn’t really think about how much he hurts you with it. But he wouldn’t straight up tell you how useless you are and very hurtful things.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

In private you will get a lot of hugs from behind that you that scare the shit out of you and he likes to see you get flustered. At first though he wouldn’t really like hugs but in the end he would love to wrap you in his arms knowing he is the only one who can make you feel this save.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

This man expresses his love more with actions and rather than words and would take him a lot of time to say it. He shows you how much he loves you through small actions like asking how your day was if you had something to eat already and if you drank enough.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

I don’t think he gets jealous very easily and if he is he won’t really show it unless the person does something that you don’t want but then he won’t hesitate to show him that you belong to him.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Forehead kisses happen pretty often or kissing on top of your head when he hugs you. His kisses can be very passionate and afterwards you will feel breathless pretty often. He loves it when you kiss his neck especially on the back.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)  

Kids remind him of his brothers. At first he would hate them but after a while he would become their strict father figure. Still i don’t see him with having children. It’s just so much stress.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Coffee, cuddles and sometimes breakfast in bed on special occasions. But he has to get out of bed pretty quickly to start making breakfast for his brothers. He enjoys the silence in the morning and the honesty you have when you just woke up.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)  

The night would be spent with him doing paperwork and you reading, homework/studying or playing on your phone in silence. You laying on his bed trying to stay awake so that you could fall asleep together. When you would fail to stay awake and would fall asleep he would tug you in and give you a kiss.

O = Open  (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say  everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

It would probably take him a long time to reveal any secret at all because of the things that happened in the past. He would also reveal them very slowly so prepare to be patient. His pride would also prevent him from revealing embarrassing secrets.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

With his brothers he gets angry very easily because he lived with them for a very long time but with you it would take him longer because he wants your stay here in the Devildom to be perfect. But we also saw that if you anger him too much that he isn’t above giving you a proper punishment. (*cough* killing you *cough*)

Q = Quizzes  (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little  detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He would remember many things about you: how you like your coffee or tea, your favorite food, birthday and everything that’s has a little bit of importance. If you talk about something you like he would remember to buy it for you on your birthday.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

Aside from all the clishé ones like first kiss, first i love you i think it would be the first moment you completely trust him like coming to him after a nightmare (I’m going to make this my next headcanon), sleeping next to him while knowing he is a demon. I think since he fell he was never fully trusted and you giving him that trust just makes him really happy and proud.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

I think he is secretly very protective but doesn’t show it that much. Moments where he will step in would be when he sees that you’re clearly uncomfortable but can’t get out of the situation like a demon is in your personal space. If that demon annoys you he will make sure to show them that he is there to protect you and if they still don’t get it he is not above yeeting them into oblivion.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

I think the most effort he would put into everyday tasks and gifts. If he notices that you don’t like the way you look he will give you at least compliment everyday or if he knows that you get anxious in social situations he would make sure to prevent getting into one. But dates would also be great. He would go into a good restaurant or watching a movie depending on what you like more.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Staying up to late and drinking way too much coffee. I don’t know why but i see him as a smoker ( it wouldn’t affect him because he is a demon ). He tried it once and found out that it is pretty relaxing.

( no i don’t like smoking please don’t do it )

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

I think he cares very much about his looks ( not as much as Asmo though ) and is really proud knowing how handsome he is. He has natural beauty but he still spends a lot of time on his hair i think. His animal is a peacock what did you expect.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

I think through all his many years of living he realized that time somewhat heals so yes the first couple years he wouldn’t be exactly the same but he knows that he has to get over you because time goes on. But if he is the reason you’re no longer with him he would feel very horrible and it would take very long to forgive himself and would make sure to not make the same mistake again.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

- He can calm someone down really good when they had a nightmare or have a panic attack because his brothers had them pretty often after falling and he was there for them after it while still having his own.

- He also cares very much about his brothers but would never admit it because his brothers wouldn’t stop teasing him about it

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)  

I see him as a very light sleeper who also mumbles in his sleep. Over the years of his brothers making trouble he became a light sleeper. If you tell him that he mumbles in his sleep though he will be very embarassed.
