a random, non exhaustive list of headcanons I have, that I don’t necessarily use in all my fics but that are very dear to me:
— TRANS NIALL I WILL NOT LET THAT HEADCANON GO ❤️❤️❤️❤️
—speaking of Niall, I just know he and Baz had a fling at some point. dated for a few weeks, maybe a few months, when they were 15
— Baz speaking Arabic ❤️
in canon compliant fics, I like to think that she taught him bc 1) it was important to Natasha 2) as a fuck you to Malcolm because he doesn’t understand it well so she and Baz can have full conversations in front of him without him knowing what they’re saying. in normal AUs, he knows it because his grandparent taught him. which leads me to another headcanon…
— …in normal AUs, Baz was raised by Natasha’s parents for a time, when Malcolm couldn’t do it. Also I hc Baz’s grandparents as people who both are from Egypt and moved to England as young adults. And they’re muslim too
—Baz having an eating disorder. works for both canon compliant and normal aus tbf but i include it more in normal aus as a “replacement” for his vampirism
—in Normal AUs, Baz being a vegetarian (vibes + something to mirror his “I don’t eat people” type of vampirism)
—Baz being disabled. should not be a headcanon but since he was magically healed in canon it is. also Baz using a cane. very very important to me
—i wish i’d include these in fics more: simon as a trans man (ftm) and baz as a nonbinary person. i’ve explored that in a few of my fics and it’s a lot of fun. it can add SO MUCH to simon’s character, and as for baz… idk, just vibes. but i’m a bit conflicted abt baz because i feel like he wouldn’t fuck with something that’s too far away from the “norm”. like he’s gay and that’s already not fun for him but gay is a generally accepted identity (in the sense that a majority of people are aware gay people exist, not that all they accept them) while nonbinary might be a bit Too queer for canon baz. i think that’s something he’d discover a bit later in life after some deconstructing (or if he evolved in a more queer environment)
—I also really like giving Baz addictions. idk he just seems prone to addiction. i am forever haunted by the scene of him drunk in the catacombs in 5th year. to me he definitely had issues with alcoholism then… so he could see signs of it in simon in ws. and they both stopped drinking altogether after that. woohoo
(alcohol’s not the only addiction i imagine baz has, i do also like giving him drug addictions. bc again. he seems prone to that. + he’s a depressed kid with more money than he knows how to use. he’d try drugs to make himself “feel good” and then become addicted)
—Baz studying English Literature in university (Oxford, unless he goes to UCL to stay in london with Simon) and working as a teacher and/or a writer. that’s the two jobs i can see baz doing the most
—Simon being a baker!!!! I do love writing Simon as a construction worker but baker Simon has a special place in my heart
(I also have entire backstories for Daphne and Niall but I’m not going to be annoying and detail them here bc I already did in the notes of one of my fics (I will TOTALLY detail them here if ANYONE asks lol))

The Three Broomsticks Pride Fest
Tumblr media
Attention pub patrons, Madam Rosmerta is utterly delighted to announce The Three Broomsticks Pride Fest! This fest is all about celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, and we welcome any writers old and new to join in the fun! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
But Rosmerta, how do you write canon-compliant fics about LBGTQ+ characters when there’s no explicit representation of that community in the books?
I’m glad you asked! TTB is a canon-compliant Discord server and therefore hosts canon-compliant fests; however, that’s not meant to be restrictive. Just because a character is not stated to be gay or asexual or nonbinary doesn’t mean they’re not! All that canon-compliance means at TTB is that the fic doesn’t alter canon events, including endgame pairings mentioned in the epilogue.
Here are some examples of LGBTQ+ characterisations and ships that would be considered canon-compliant by TTB definition (these aren’t prompts or an exhaustive list by any means, just some examples):
Harry, Ginny, Hermione, or Ron discovering bisexuality later in life (men and women being married isn’t inherently heterosexual, afterall)
A next gen character being trans or nonbinary
Asexual Charlie Weasley
Same-sex ships that don’t alter endgame couples; there are too many to list, but here’s a few: Dean/Seamus, Minerva/Poppy, Sirius/Remus, Lavender/Parvati, Katie/Alicia, Albus/Scorpius
Harry and Hermione having a conversation/realisation about Grindeldore
Everyone has their own slightly different definitions of canon-compliancy, so if you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to send us an ask or reach out to any mod. We also encourage you to join our Discord server (click here to join), which is active during and between fests with mini-events, writing chats, an HP book club, and general shenanigans.
Fest submissions will be due in late May and posting will begin on June 1st (see important dates below for more details).
🌈 Rules:
At least one LGBTQ+ character must be prominently featured
Submissions must be canon-compliant (see FAQs below for more details!)
Each submission should be at least 1000 words
No sexual content featuring minors (this doesn’t include kissing or vague references with no actual description)
🌈 Important Dates:
May 26th – submission deadline
May 29th – writers informed when their fic(s) will be revealed
June 1st – first fic is revealed
🌈 FAQ:
What counts as canon-compliant?
Canon-compliancy has a broad scope and we’re not here to gatekeep! For the purposes of this fest, we consider the Harry Potter books 1-7 as canon and the “end game” pairings. The rest is up to you - for example, if you wish to write a post-Hogwarts story, you do not have to take Cursed Child or post-Potter interview information as canon if you don’t want to, but you should follow the pairings established in the epilogue.
Can I submit a multi-chapter?
You can absolutely submit the start of a new multi-chapter; however, you cannot submit a new chapter from an already published WIP.
How should I submit?
Submit to the AO3 collection and/or to Tumblr with the following information:
Title:
Author:
Main Character(s):
Pairing(s):
Rating:
Warning(s):
If you are submitting to our collection, it will be private and anonymous until we release your story.
How long will the fest go? What days of the week will fics be posted?
That depends on how many we get! After all fics are submitted, the mods will make a schedule, and we will contact you on May 29th to let you know when you can expect your fic to go up. The first fic will for sure be up on June 1st though!
I have another question!
No problem! Drop us an ask and we’ll get back to you.

No because non binary Maisie is so real I need someone to elaborate on that. When and how did she realise it? What was her coming out like?
I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
in the wise words of isabella sermon maisie was raised by a #Strong Independent Woman so she doesn’t really conceptualize Gender that much. everyone is just kind of a person to her. she’s met maybe 10 people ever and they’ve been a very strange and diverse group. she has no reason to question it at this point. she’s always had more “tomboy” interests and fashion sense but it’s never a big deal bc claire and owen have bigger things to worry about (avoiding jail time, velociraptor in the backyard, attempted kidnappings, etc. the usual)
it’s when she goes to college or whatever that she’s like What The Fuck is Wrong With You People. apparently it’s feminine to drink lemonade so she says it fuck it I’m nonbinary now. just kidding. but yeah she has a whole culture shock and momentarily considers going back to the woods. at first she thinks she’s just a tomboy bc she can’t relate to the girly girls on campus but then she befriends some queer people including gnc women and trans ppl and she’s like… Wait A Minute. for some reason she relates more to tgirls and tboys on campus than the masc cis girls and she’s like haha isn’t that weird (egg). but still… she doesn’t fully relate to tboys bc she’s not a man but she’s also not really that much of a girl. probably takes sometime to research and more hanging out for her to be like WAIT!! non-binary exists
her coming out is easy bc her parents are pushing 50 at this point and they only have a vague idea of what that is. they’re too busy sitting on the porch like old people to care about pronouns. claire’s like wow the kids are having so much fun these days. good for them❤️ (bisexual who experienced the 90s) and owen’s like does They want chicken for dinner tonight? (ally doing his best). in fact she’s like “it’s ok dad you can just call me your son if that’s easier” and he’s like “no you are my They” (he forgot that child is gender neutral for a minute).
maisie’s exact identity and pronouns is up to interpretation but my vision is of a somewhat labelless masc they/sometimes she (used here for clarity). in a video game with only male/female options she’d pick male and give her character a skater girl look basically.

hi cas, stellar anon.
My parents are treating us fine-ish, we’ve always had an eh relationship, so it’s about the same. My mom has a “hate the sin and not the sinner mentality” so she doesn’t hate queer people, but she wants them to get “fixed” ig? My dad, from what I gather, doesn’t really care (?) he and my mom were talking about and he said “I don’t want to judge people on their choices, or what they’re doing to their bodies” or something like that.
I grew up going to church ig, but as far as I remember no one said, don’t kiss the opposite gender, and my parents never like, explicitly talked about it. I think I found out that gay (lesbians specifically) people were like, a thing from the owl house. That’s also where I found about nonbinary people, that took a little googling since I was confused why they were being referred to as they. I thought it was because they were like so powerful, that they had to be referred to as like, multiple people. and I also remember being confused about men being attracted to men, bc apparently women liking women made more sense, bc women. idk. Ig I don’t have like that much internalized homophobia (?) bc I didn’t know gay people were even a thing until I was like 10. And trans/genderfluid/nonbinary people I learned about early on too, so the owl house introduced me to gay stuff ig? And in Percy Jackson there’s a few gay characters and I read that when I was 11/12 and Alex Fierro from Magnus Chase is a genderfluid icon. My parents don’t like, talk to us about that stuff, I didn’t get “the talk” from them either, I found out from a hinny fanfiction on wattpad, idk,
and also, I’m on tumblr, the gay website, so, there’s that too.
oh and also idk if my brother told my parents about his roommate being his trans friend (I’ll call her a, since referring to her like that is weird) so idk how he’ll handle that. Once he leaves for college he probably won’t be back much, since we have a pretty eh relationship with them, so we’ll see how that goes.
have a good day/night!
Hi hon!
Yeah, I think it’s good that your parents aren’t OUTRIGHT hateful, but it’s important to recognize that your mom’s mentality can be just as hurtful and detrimental. Religious bias against LGBTQIA+ people can cause such trauma, you know? A a lot of times quiet hate is more dangerous than obvious hate because it’s harder to prove and change.
Im glad you recognize that there can be other ideals besides hers. ❤️

THANK you, bisexuality has always meant attraction regardless of gender 🙌 people can call themselves what they want of course and every pan person I’ve met has always been well-meaning but sometimes it annoys me that we have to keep clarifying this… bisexuality is attraction regardless of gender, there’s definitions of bisexuality dating all the way back to the 70s that state this… meanwhile pansexuality was coined Way later and it was initially defined as ‘attraction to men, women and trans ppl’ which implies trans ppl are another category not included in regular labels, which is so transphobic. I know the definition has shifted to many things now in an attempt to not be transphobic but all any new definitions keep doing is implying the other labels are something different than they are. Like saying pan is for when you’re also attracted to nonbinary ppl? Wrong, anyone can be attracted to nonbinay ppl, including straight ppl, bc you can’t tell if someone is nonbinary by just looking at them… There’s no need to create an entire new label for the inclusion of nonbinary ppl when other labels never excluded them in the first place... Or saying pan is when gender is not a factor in attraction whereas bi is when gender IS a factor? Well attraction doesn’t work like that, it’s not a mathematical equation, and also here we have again a case of the pan label redefining other labels in order to define itself. Anyway sorry for this rant bc you probably already know this. I really don’t want to upset pan ppl and I think they can obviously call themselves whatever they want, if the word pan feels more like them then obviously that’s beautiful❤️ I’m just pretty tired of anyone trying to redefine MY label in the process of trying to define their own. Like bisexuality is attraction regardless of gender and if that’s how you understand pansexuality then congrats, they’re the same, and don’t yell at me to “get educated”, educate yourself first, I ask this kindly… Anyway. I know they mean well so I feel like an asshole but this has been bugging me and many of my bi friends for a while. If this hurt anyone I’m sorry but I’m tired of having to bite down my frustration in being misunderstood all bc it might hurt pan ppl meanwhile no one cares if it hurts ME to be misunderstood like this. I hope the pan ppl reading this know this: I rlly don’t hate you , we are siblings in queer solidarity, I love you, but please try to understand us❤️
And Dani thank you for making me feel heard ❤️
Yesss absolutely, same I have no problems with people that feel like the pan label is more appropriate for them but I think it's important to remember that bisexuality has always included us non-binary and trans people... and also all the other micro labels of bi+ like "regardless of gender" or with varying degrees etc etc are all under the bisexual umbrella, that's inherently included and I don't feel any need to go outside of the bi definition even with all the stereotypes on our community that may make us want to not take that label to avoid being stereotyped as cheaters or evil etc
Personally the label that feels most me is bisexual and I love it, glad to know you're feeling heard!! Always be proud ✨

Hi, you can call me Storm! I'm 30 and the mom of a loud and demanding cat ❤️
I’m a multiple paragraphs/novella style writer. I love to write detailed descriptions and delve into a character’s head/emotions as well as surroundings. I compare it to writing a novel together. Not every reply has to be novella length, however. If there are action or dialogue heavy scenes, I tend to do a shorter back and forth to keep the momentum going.
I only do MxF (with me writing the female role). I don’t double, but I’m more than happy to write side characters of either gender to help move the story along. I only want female authors writing male characters as I’ve had bad experiences with cis male authors. (Trans men and nonbinary pals are exceptions).
I'm really hoping to find a friendship, someone who can add to our story, and most importantly, someone who wants a long-term connection. It's difficult for me to write with someone if I don't feel that genuine bond. It's also important to me to have a high level of activity, with at least one reply a day.
If you suddenly stop replying ic and ooc, I'll drop the story after 2 attempts of gauging interest spaced a week apart. But feel free to message me if you want to pick the story back up again, even months later.

I want my heart ripped from my chest from angst, then feeling like it’s going to burst from overwhelming cuteness. I want us to love these characters and the world we create. Have an idea for a scene? Found a picture that inspired you? Send it to me! Be invested when it comes to plotting/worldbuilding. There’s nothing worse than receiving one sentence in reply to two paragraphs of ideas, or having a doormat partner who says “sure” to whatever I ask. Building ideas one on top of the other, watching them snowball into amazing plot threads brings me joy. But having to pull plot ideas like I’m pulling teeth makes me think you’re not interested, and I will lose interest in return.

I have lots of original plot ideas in mind as well!

If you suddenly stop replying ic and ooc, I'll drop the story after 2 attempts of gauging interest spaced a week apart. But feel free to message me if you want to pick the story back up again, even months later.
Searching For:

An excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. (Literate to advanced writers only, please. I'm not looking for newbies)
Plot before smut. While mature themes will be in my writing, there needs to be chemistry between our characters. I normally do a 60/40 plot to smut ratio and my characters tend to be subs/switches depending on the circumstances
An older male character (early forties to mid-late fifties). I love the gruff and tough men with dark pasts who secretly have a soft heart. I also love grumpy, hypermasculine men being intimidated by sweet but fiery women. My characters are mid-late twenties to early-mid thirties so the age gap is legal.
Enthusiasm to chat about our character and ship, how to crush them and then gushing over fluffy moments. I love crying over characters and what the heck they’re doing. I want my heart ripped from my chest from angst, then feeling like it’s going to burst from overwhelming cuteness. I want us to love these characters and the world we create. I want to make pinterest boards, spotify playlists, graphics, and toss headcanons back and forth until late at night.
Interests:
Modern fantasy, monsters, sci-fi, omegaverse, southern gothic/midwest gothic (i’m a sucker for that southern/texas drawl), horror, height/size difference, cheating/affair, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, spooky small towns, post apocalyptic/dystopia, crime/mysteries, emotionally charged/dark and gritty, bodyguard x assignment, forced proximity, opposites attract, fated mates, anti heroes/morally gray characters, traumatic pasts, grumpy x sunshine, one bed, men who simp over their women, touch her / him and die, and more.
I have lots of original plot ideas in mind as well!
